Fail Shep heads to the planet Haestrom, in geth space, to recruit Tali. Haestrom is unique in that its star is going supernova earlier than it should be. Tali is leading a science team to figure out why this is happening.
Unfortunately, the geth do not like people entering their territory and wipe the floor with the quarians. By the time Shep shows up, there are only two survivors: Tali and Kal'Reeger.
Fail Shep reaches Reeger, who is under assault by an giant Geth Armature. Reeger offers to use his rocket launcher to distract the Armature even though doing so will expose him to the Armature's fire. Fail Shep takes Reeger up on his offer.
Fail Shep wipes out the Armature's minions but passes out from the heat while ducking behind cover. He is woken up five minutes later by the minions respawning. About two minutes later, Reeger dies. I wasn't keeping an exact count, but the game seems to give you a very generous amount of time to take down the Armature.
Fail Shep rescues Tali and recruits her for the mission. Tali isn't happy to be working for Cerberus, both because of the events of the novel Ascension and because of Fail Shep's many fights with Cerberus in the previous game. The game doesn't seem to realize that the only ME1 Cerberus quest Fail Shep did (Toombs) did not involve any combat with Cerberus.
