Hi guys, today, we're headed for the Mist Cave. The entrance, however, has been blocked off by a soldier.

Soldier: No one may pass... Orders from the king...

Ceodore: Why not!? There's no way my father would give a decree like that...

Soldier: No one may pass... Orders from the king...

The Hooded Man approaches the guy.

Hooded Man: All right...

Ceodore: Hey!

Hooded Man: Brace yourself, Ceodore!

Guys a monster. Great. Not even a hard one at this point, because the Hooded Man hits like a truck.

Ceodore: ...

Hooded Man: I figured as much.

Ceodore: The monster... he's got that soldier!

I... what? Ceodore, were you even paying attention? The monster didn't get that soldier, he WAS that soldier! Ugh! (That's two facepalms so far in this LP for those keeping score)

The Hooded Man just heads in. Let's go.

The Mist Cave is a bit different than in FFIV. Firstly, there's a door built into the first wall of the dungeon which contains Namingway.

Namingway: Oh, hello there. I'm Namingway. I am on a journey across the world to bestow new names upon the populace. Sadly, not many people want to have their names changed anymore...

They're all aware of the risks of getting the player to name them, I take it.

Namingway: The situation has grown so bad, I feel I can hardly even call myself Namingway any longer. Instead, I am now trying to serve others in new and more exciting ways. Could you come to visit me again once you've progressed a bit further in your adventure?

While he doesn't right now, he'll serve as an item shop in long dungeons, and he'll have another purpose later on.

As we try to climb the stairs up, a rumbling is heard.

Ceodore: !?

We find a Steel Helm, which is about twice as strong as Ceodore's Iron Helm, so he gets that. The Hooded Man's starting equipment is pretty sufficient for him until the end of the tale, actually, we're only just now getting stuff that outclasses his equipment and the tale's nearly over.

We then approach the bridge, when another rumbling noise occurs. The Hooded Man crosses.

Hooded Man: We need to move, Ceodore. A cave-in down here would be our end.

Ceodore: Ah, okay!

Another rumble occurs when Ceodore crosses, and he falls off.

Ceodore: Whoooaaa!

Hooded Man: Ceodore!

And then he jumps after us.

Hooded Man: Can you walk?

Ceodore: Nngh... I'm fine!

Hooded Man: Good, then start climbing.

Ceodore: Okay!

Lucky for us, JRPG protagonists take no fall damage. We're now on B2 of the Mist Cave. Place is certainly larger than it used to be.

There's a bridge in the middle of the room, which has a path going off to the side. This path heads to a secret room where we find some Mythril Gloves. Mythril's as good as the equipment's gonna get this tale. We'll give these to Ceodore.

Ceodore learns Esuna on the way to the next bit of the dungeon, which we'll probably need sometime soon. The same battle also proceeded to remind me that bats are the most annoying enemies in the game.

There's a save point and Namingway shop just before the next room. I stock up on Tents because we're running low.

Next room is B3. Nothing interesting. Back up to the other half of B2, then. We find a Cottage here, although we're not quite far enough in the game for that to be too useful, but we also find some Chainmail, which goes to Ceodore.

Another save point rests at the end of this floor. We use it. Because up ahead, the rumbling starts again.

Ceodore: It's shaking harder now!

Hooded Man: Where's it coming from?

More rumbling.

Hooded Man: We're directly above it!

And now we're fighting a Tunneler. It's a hard hitter, and has Earthquake, which we can't defend against yet, and because I'm stupid, we're doing this on a moon phase where Attack is up. First thing is to use the Spider Silk we found... somewhere, to inflict Slow on the thing, then beat the crap out of it, while using Cura a lot because it can hit for 300 damage. We fell it without too much trouble.

Hooded Man: You all right?

Ceodore: I'm fine! Was that thing the inhabitant of this cave?

Hooded Man: I'd say so... this time, at least.

Ceodore: Huh?

Well, let's head back up to the original dungeon. As we try to head out though, the Baron soldiers start to catch up. Shit.

Soldier: They must have come through here...

Soldier: They must not escape... Orders from the king...

Hooded Man: There they are.

Ceodore: !? Over there, too!

Crap, they're coming from Mist, too?

Hooded Man: We're surrounded!

Ceodore: What should we do!? There's no way out.

Hey, is it just me, or is the mist getting thicker?

Hooded Man: What the...?

Ceodore: The mist is thickening!

Hooded Man: Keep quiet...

Soldier: Where are they?

Soldier: They weren't in Mist, either...

Soldier: So that means...

Soldier: They must be somewhere close to Baron.

Or, you know, they could be halfway up Mount Ordeals by now, you morons. They leave.

Ceodore: This mist... it saved us.

Hooded Man: ...

Ceodore: What is it?

Hooded Man: Nothing. Let's move before they come back again.

We head out.

Ceodore: Mist is ahead of us, right?

Hooded Man: That's right.

Ceodore: I thought the mountain east of the village had caved in.

Hooded Man: We'll take advantage of that.

Ceodore: Huh?

Hooded Man: They wouldn't expect a couple of fugitives to head that way, I would imagine.

Ceodore: We're walking right into a collapsed mountain!?

Hooded Man: That's exactly right.

Ceodore: Wait a minute! Tell me, why are you doing all this for me?

Hooded Man: I'm not doing this for you. There's a man I'm after... Someone that I have to defeat, even if it costs me my own life.

Ceodore: A man? Who is he?

Hooded Man: ... A dragoon... ex-Baron.

Ceodore: Hey... his name wouldn't be...

Music: Long Way To Go

We cut to Mysidia at the Prayer Dais.

Porom: What is it, Elder?

Elder: The dragon... It's crying!

Um... what? The two moons flash on screen for a second, then we cross to Mount Ordeals. Hey, look, it's Kain. His armour looks kinda... evil, though.

Kain: Cecil...

And... that's the end of the tale. We get to save here, and now we unlock the 6... well I guess they're the non-essential tales. We've got tales here for Rydia, Yang, Palom, Edge, Porom and Edward. We complete one, and we'll be able to move on with the main plot, although we'll lose some stuff later on if we don't have completed saves for each tale.

Well, we've got one more thing to do, then we can move on to the next tale. See you then.

So, am I to assume that the tales will be played in the same order as they were originally released on Wiiware? Or is it more of a matter of personal choice, with no option spoiling the plot any more than the others would? I'll still be reading along and voicing my opinion either way, but if there's some tale that seems impossible to beat until you have a better communal inventory, I suggest you avoid causing yourself a ton of mental strain; a happy blogger makes for a good blog, and all that.

Can't do Wiiware order, I'll explain a bit later.

I'll go down the list, most likely, it's the order the tales were released in the original Japanese mobile version. So Rydia's tale is up next.
