Chapter 12: Birds of a Feather
In this chapter, Hector and Matthew travel towards to Santaruz, another region in the Lycian Leauge. Along they way, find themselves being followed by two other residents of Ostia. Oswin, the Armor Knight, who is a high ranking knight of the Ostian military, comes along for the ride alongside Serra, a Cleric who works for the Ostian House. Serra just happens to be the first person that I drafted
, so we'll be seeing a lot more of her.
Meanwhile, on the southern side of the region, another group of soldiers appear to be riding in. Why, it's...it appears to be Elifrail
! Also known by his real name Eliwood, Elifrail was a sickly child from youth, and was even teased as a youngster by his peers. It's not fair for them to call him mean names like Elifail though, he comes from a great line of Knights, and has the potential to be a great commander...if it wasn't for the fact that his body is completly wrought with illness. The poor guy is so determined to meet learn about what came of his father that he rose out of his sickbed and hobbled out for adventure, aided by his five attendents. Well, that's what Friends and Supporting Protagonists are for, right Hector?
Oswin rusty red armor seems to have finally given out on him, and of course you can't count on Matthew to do anything besides run away, so Hector's going to have to do this chapter with only a fragile healer along for company. Fortunetly, Marcus
, the greatest Palidin that Pharae has left to offer, has volunteered to protect his lord from the bandits that seem to want to kill him. This does mean that he's forced to leave behind a Secret Book that could have been found in a village near his starting location, but these are the sacrifices that a vassal has to make.
One thing that I notice in this chapter
is that there's Pegasus Knights at the start. They weren't there in Eliwood mode, so we'll most likely be attacked very early on. fortunetly, pegasus knights aren't very well built, so their iron lances will weigh them down enough so that their normally good speed stat is useless. Hector and Marcus, who both have a decent amount of brawn, shall suffer no such issues.
One issue that Hector IS suffering from is the fact that he's still using that crappy Hand Axe. A Brigand dodged his hit. A BRIGAND! and he wasn't even on a mountain or anything. The immediate goal is to sell the Red Gem that Matthew stole and get him an Iron Axe, pronto. Everyone has exchanged weapons in a way that they won't be fighting unless theyare supposed to, so we have many meatshields. Oswin in particular should do nicely.
Meanwhile, Marcus shall be riding up to meet up with Hector, while Lowen sits on a fort and eats attacks for a bit.
Taking out one of the Pegy Knights gives Hector level up number 4
. It also requires that he use another Wolf Beil use however. Fortunately, a clever bit of trading with Oswin allowed him to switch back to his Hand Axe for the counter attacks. Aren't I smart?!
Some risky moves were required as the battle wore on. Poor Serra had to be left out in the open and unable to start her healing regiment, but the real problem was Matthew, who still had the red gem and was trying to make it to that shop. I kept him on a Fort hoping that he wouldn't take that much damage, but he still managed to get hit by an archer and a pegasus Knight. Hector and Marcus had no choice but to take out the high damage units so matthew could survive (did I mention that I REALLY don't like using my Preferred weapons unless I have to?)
The boss, Zagan, managed to attack Hector earlier than I thought he was able to, and Hector paid dearly for it. The only consolation was that the units that kept attacking Lowen never thought to keep on going and attack the other units huddling together in the mountains trying to keep Elifrail warm.
Matthew finally made it to the promised land, a store that let him pawn off his jewel for a couple axes and some cash. In retrospect, he only really needed one axe, since Dorcas and Bartre don't needed axes when they're too busy carrying Elifrail's sickbed around. He was able to deliver it to Hector, who put aside his Hand axe to open a can of whoopass on Zagan (with assistance from Marcus of course). LEVEL UP!
From here, the rest of the chapter was just cleanup duty. Hector got yet another level up
while taking out the final pegasus knight, Marcus got an unnessecary critical, and Lowen probably won a medal for his tanking job.
The battle was won, and Hector was kind enough to offer his axe-arm for his ailing friend. He also meet's up with Tobio, the role that I shall play in this tale. I'm sure that Eliwood will still be somewhat useful as the Heart in this noble venture, and who knows, maybe he'll start feeling better and throw his weight around...nah.
