Episode 1-1: Baby's First War!

I start my reign of the great tribe of Aztec with 2 provinces. Sucks, I know. Only consolation is that these are the two best provinces in North America, giving me massive amounts of gold income from each.

Because my 1000 man army can't deal with the potential revolt from centralization I use my first slider movement to move Innovative,

...and lose 5 prestige.

Then, because I desperately want to fix the "only two provinces" situation, I start making mercenaries.

Around October 14th I hire a theologician and make the religious decisions "Divination" (-1 Revolt Risk, +3% stab cost) and "Vision Quest" (+1 prestige /year, +3% stab cost).

October 16th 1399:Maya guarantees our indepedence, and Zapotec offers an alliance, which I decline because I plan to kick the crap out of them shortly.
October 19th, 1399: Confused by my inability to hire more mercenaries, I realize that I haven't been minting enough money.

The situation is promptly remedied.

November 1st, 1399: Our stability goes up by 1, getting me to max stability.
January 2nd, 1400: My plan to simultaneously spy on and piss off the Zapotec succeeds beautifully.
January 20th, 1400: I declare war on Zapotec. For complex diplomatic reasons, I tell their envoy it's because they're poopyheads, rather than because I want to take their land.

Also because, let's face it, they are poopyheads.

February 21st, 1400: While engaged in pitched battle against our new enemies, a messenger comes to inform me that we have stopped trading in fur.

I stare at him for a long time.

March 3rd, 1400:Having won the Battle of Tarasco, I order my priests to magic the province over to me.

After I squelch their objection that "that makes no sense", they come back later and tell me that the spirits have in fact delivered the province over to me.

Honestly, I wasn't expecting that to work myself.

March 5th, 1400: The spirits tell me that I have failed to gain access to the sea. I argue that no, actually I have succeeded to gain access to the sea, because I clearly am standing right by it.

But they won't have it. Spirits are stupid.

The next day they order the Aztec to become more prestigious. I assume they mean to the Maya, because there's nobody else around here.

March 23rd, 1400: After beating a tiny Zapotec army, the spirits grant me the province of Tlapanec. I still have no idea how this works.
April 18th, 1400: The spirits steal me Tlaxcala. To the north, the Zapotec army is losing to a revolt.

I don't think the rebels have really thought this through all the way.

June 15th, 1400: While in pitched battle for the Zapotec capital of Mixtec, a voice from the sky informs me that warriors do not read books.

Well, okay.

September 12th, 1400: The poopyheads over at Zapotec seem to have upgraded their head quality. Now I need to take my gold provinces back.
December 26th, 1400: The Zapotec army has lost focus and wandered southeast. I take my provinces back and then one of theirs for good measure.
January 2nd, 1401: My advisors inform me that, technically, there is a land border between the province I just captured and Maya territory. I laugh at them.

They weren't kidding.

May 13th, 1401:We defeat the rebels guarding the last Zapotec province.

I order the spirits to magic it over to me, then annex the Zapotec capital.

The retreating rebels finally realize that they can't demand more autonomy from a nation that has just failed to exist, and run off naked into the mountains.

EDIT: Oh, and just to let you guys know I've actually played up to 1450; I just didn't want to post a Wall of Text update.

This is also why this is episode 1-1 instead of just 1; until I get to the end of the material I have it'll still be episode 1-X.

I would say congrats but I know that the first Europeans are bound to float in soon enough :P

Well, thank you anyway. They haven't appeared by 1450, so at least it's taking them a good amount of time.

Ooh, forgot to post this:

In my first game, with the Iroquois, I managed to beat Milan in a war. Without even knowing about the "seize colony" button.

Of course, Milan didn't have any borders with me before the war, but still, it's not a bad accomplishment.

Wait, were you in Europe at the time? Or did Milan just sail over and colonize?

Milan sailed over and took my colony.

Wow. That's pretty impressive; I can barely manage to play Native American factions, let alone fend off colonizing Europeans.

Make sure you stop expansion at 9 provinces. That gives you good income without paralyzing your government.

@Kink: Know that. Actually I think I stopped at eight; I don't want to go to war with the Maya for only one extra province.
