Some Color Mage's Let's Play lets out a howl! Golden Sun: The Lost Age
Oh, you're already starting the sequel ? Nice !
Jhiday
I certainly can't wait for more!
AweStriker
@Jhiday: Yeah, I know I said next year in the first thread, but I honestly don't have much else to do until Christmas :P
SomeColorMage
Well, so far, it looks as though the standards of this Liveblog meet those from your previous work. Which is to say, quite humorous and a joy to read. I'm certainly glad that you're indeed going through with this, and I wish you the best of luck.

As for class suggestions...eh, I've got nothing right now. But if you come across a Mercury Djinn in the near future, put it on Felix. If memory recalls, they boost Luck, and the lighthouse jumper probably needs as much of it as he can get...
EndarkCuli
Indeed. Mercury is the lucky element. Thanks for the suggestion, as always.
SomeColorMage
Arguably, having your new Jupiter Djinni Rescue on Mars Base Pierrot Jenna is a good thing, given how the class advances.
AweStriker
Well, yes. I don't like HOW the class advances though, as to take advantage of the higher tiers and still have everyone usable requires some... creativity.
SomeColorMage
Well, how about that; I had no idea that you'd get a Mercury Djinn that early. Perhaps not the best Agility, but it'll probably do Felix some good to keep it on. And being creative when it comes to the Pierrot's advancement...well, it could always be worse, I suppose.

Other than that, it looks like things are progressing well. Already have one Djinn per person, learning new Psynergy quickly, et cetera. Best of luck with that whole 'getting a boat in an inconspicuous town to the south that will probably challenge you in some way or another' thing.
EndarkCuli
will probably challenge you in some way or another

You don't know the half of it.
SomeColorMage
A young lad with a mysterious past that can use Mercury psynergy? Since Alex gave you the cold shoulder, something tells me he's going to be party member #4...and I just realised that the order you gain Adepts is roughly the same as in the first. Begin with a Venus and Mars, quickly aquire a Jupiter, and then go through a couple of bosses before getting Mercury. Might just be me, but I think that's kinda interesting.

Oh, and I'm going to take up your offer about equipment details and inquire about the Nurse Cap.
EndarkCuli
Nurse Cap: Defence +18, can be used as an item to restore 70 HP to target Adept (may break, which means you can't use the item effect again until you pay to fix it at a shop), only equippable by Females.

As for the order of joining Adepts, I had noticed that too, but I've also noticed that Frost gets a lot of use. I guess lots of puddles is a bit more likely than lots of pillars or bushes. So not getting your Mercury Adept for a while is kind of an exploration limiter.
SomeColorMage
I hope what you said about stats is true; for the new main character, Felix could certainly be better off. If applicable, I still like the idea of loading him up with as much Mercury as possible to get some luck on his side. Plus, I kinda like the thought of a gruff Anti Hero like him being reduced to the role of primary healer...well, unless he only gets spells like Tundra and Cutting Edge...

...Oh, and information on the Pirate Sword, please and thank you. And while I'm at it, does anything funny happen if you read the minds of non-Adepts? I mean, the only times you've noted using that skill, you were caught in the act right when it got juicy...
EndarkCuli
...Yeah, I'll put that Mercury Djinn back on Felix next update, and it is the same resulting class as Isaac with Mercury Djinn, so he would get Ply and Wish at high enough a level.

Pirate's Sword: 34 Attack, unleashes Dreamtide (Mercury, +12 damage, inflicts sleep)

As for Mind Read, non-Adepts never catch you as they can't tell what's happening. They sometimes have something funny to say, but I tend not to use the spell unless I need to. If you want me to see what I can pull up though, I can give that a shot.
SomeColorMage
I was asking myself why Felix's stats were so low, but then I realized he must be your Party Member With Only One Djinni.
AweStriker
Yep. Jenna and Sheba have two Djinn. That, and, compared to Squire, Brute is a bit of a step down.
SomeColorMage
A strong, muscular man travelling across vast distances, living an adventurous life and finding just enough time to mingle with the lovely ladies at every port...yeah, I can come up with a few reasons why Brigg's wife would want to accompany him on a pirating voyage.

Congrats on clearing the name of your future Mercury user, and best of luck in trying to get back to that whole "Light the lighthouses" scheme Alex's got you going through. Also, the Ixion Mail sounds interesting; if it wouldn't be too much trouble, feel free to elaborate on its statistics.
EndarkCuli
I can understand WHY Chaucha would want to come, but having your wife and son follow you around pirating in dangerous areas does not sound like a very good idea.

Ixion Mail: 26 Defence, Jupiter Resist +20, Mercury Resist +20.
SomeColorMage
So you have right now:

  • 2 Mercury on Felix
  • 2 Jupiter on Jenna
  • 2 Venus on Sheba
  • and 2 Mars to spread out between these people.

I'd like to suggest...

  • 2 Venus on Felix (Squire Series Rank 2)
  • 2 Jupiter, 1 Mars on Jenna (Mars Illusionist)
  • 2 Mercury, 1 Mars on Sheba (Hermit Series Rank 2).
AweStriker (edited by: AweStriker)
OK. I'll use that, probably until I end up with more Djinn. Arranging all this between 3 characters gets really annoying after a while.
SomeColorMage
By the way, how do you know about the Djinn power stats? Are you using a strategy guide?

'cause I don't remember seeing them in-game, and it's not the kind of thing JRPGs do...
Medinoc
Yeah, I've got a few guides open when I work on these updates.
SomeColorMage
Actually if you just unset Sheba's djinni, you'll put her back into Wind Seer, enabling her to use Whirlwind.

Then you can just reset them when you're done.
AweStriker
That is what I meant, I guess I just phrased it wrong.
SomeColorMage
Y'know, I always kind of hated the elemental rocks. They took far too long for what they were.
Gilphon (edited by: Gilphon)
Air's Rock was certainly shorter than expected.
SanctityNova
I believe that's because Some Color Mage basically just gave us an overview; IIRC, if you want to get to all the chests, you end spending as much time on the ground in front of rock, on the rock's exterior, in the rock's interior before activating the statues and after activating the statues each as you would of the total stay in a more normal area; meaning you end up staying in there for quadruple the amount of time most others areas require.

I think I can state without exaggeration that Air's Rock is hands down the longest dungeon in the Golden Sun series. It's by no means the hardest, but it just takes so 'frikken long, and first time players have no idea what it's all building towards, or how much of it is left.
Gilphon (edited by: Gilphon)
Yeah, I got everything, but I only point out when it's either right in front of our faces, good equipment, or involves a puzzle so stupid I can't help but mock it.

That and I actually knew where to go. Air's Rock interior is a bloody maze.

You should also be able to see how long it took from my post time. Most of the time, I'm consistently around 2 or 3 PM my time. This one? 4 PM. It took me about 2 and a half hours to write that update.
SomeColorMage (edited by: SomeColorMage)
Actually, the part that confused me the most about Air Rock is that there was no Boss Battle.
Medinoc
Yay, Felix the very lucky healer! Not only is his luck the highest in the party, but his Agility's 77 to boot! I'm more happy about this coincidence than I think an ordinary person ought to be!

...Ahem. So, anyways, excellent job as per usual. Happy almost-belated Xmas from Ontario (It's 11:40 as I post this), I hope you got (or will get) to spend quality time with your loved ones, et cetera.
EndarkCuli
I've decided that I'm going to take some more days off, and continue probably around January 2. See you then.
SomeColorMage
Jenna and Isaac, an item? That'd be silly! Where would they fit into the inventory?
Nyperold
Considering that longswords take up the same amount of room in the inventory as 30 herbs, I reckon you could fit 2 people into an inventory slot. The question is what would be its purpose in battle. :P
SomeColorMage
It's Wutai time, then, isn't it.
AweStriker
Yeah. But honestly, what's worse, a town based on Japan in a game where a lot of cultures are represented, or an elemental rock?
SomeColorMage
Then why don't you give the Floating Hat to someone else?

Also, this may create an interesting anachronism. Remember the Muramasa from Crossbone Isle? Its existence there implies that Muramasa the swordsmith was around before this happened... but that can't be the case according to other Japanese legends!
AweStriker
Like I said, Golden Sun really screws around with all mythologies. Boreas is not an ice maker in the Greek mythologies he came from.

As for the Floating Hat being on Sheba, it's more for the Defence than the Luck. Luck only ups your status defence (according to my sources anyway), I don't really find that useful.
SomeColorMage (edited by: SomeColorMage)
I found this to be one of the more tolerable rocks in the game.
Marioguy128
I've started the next update, but due to me not having much time on my hands, it won't be finished today. As it's the end of the Eastern Sea, it'll probably be big.
SomeColorMage
Next update should be tomorrow, already have most of it done.
SomeColorMage
Issac seems to have transfered his Heroic Mime virus to Felix.
Marioguy128
Makes sense. Isaac did lose it just after Felix jumped off the Venus Lighthouse.
SomeColorMage
By the way, if you want to suggest Djinn setups, this is your last chance, as probably after the next update I'm going after some of the good drops and the bonus dungeons. (Not sure what order I'll do it in yet)
SomeColorMage
"Felix reaches Level 3"

Wow, what did you do to him?!
AweStriker
Arg. Thanks for pointing that out, I've really got to look over more than using a spellcheck when posting these.
SomeColorMage
I just remembered something. Didn't the game have 4 spare Djinn that could be found if you didn't transfer anything or didn't have all the Djinn from the first game?
Marioguy128
Yeah, a Jupiter one at SW Atteka Islet, a Mars one at Magma Rock, a Mercury one at Prox and a Venus one at Treasure Isle. The thing is, I've never had to go after them, so I don't know how to get them. That's why I haven't pointed them out.
SomeColorMage
Just so you guys know, I am working on the next update, but from here on, I have quite a bit of grinding to do. I'm about... 10 levels away from where I'll be at the final update. I think. Next update SHOULD be tomorrow, but that's not a guarantee.
SomeColorMage
Status update: I'm halfway through the grind for the next update, may be done today, I don't know. Also, I corrected a mistake in an earlier update: One of the Bonus Bosses doesn't require Teleport, it requires Lift instead, so I just corrected that.
SomeColorMage
Just out of curiosity here, since I already beat him, but where do the Ghoul and Death Balls fall in the "Oh Crap, Kill It With Something" order in Dark Dawn?
AweStriker
Ghoul Balls rank slightly lower than the Refresh Balls, as they seriously wreck your stat boosts from Djinn, and Death Balls are below the Thunder Balls, as instant kill stuff has ridiculously low accuracy.

I'll try to work on my next update tomorrow. No promises on when it'll be up though.
SomeColorMage
RNG abuse and finally getting an Excalibur, ahoy!
AweStriker
Yep. I think I'll be going for 3 Excaliburs (One each for Garet, Felix and Piers). I could get a Darksword for Garet but it's unleash isn't as good.
SomeColorMage
Starting work on next update now.

EDIT: Quick status update: I'm currently grinding out Orihalcons to get my Excaliburs. I've currently got 37. I think I've taken killing Sky Dragons to an art form.
SomeColorMage (edited by: SomeColorMage)
Progress report: My characters are at Lv 51. Sorry for taking so long, I expected to get this LP done before I started uni, but, well, that hasn't happened, has it? And that's now why there's weeks between updates.

On the plus side, when I'm ready, the final two parts should be able to be done in one day.
SomeColorMage
Okay, I can now say that barring something unexpected, the finale should be this weekend. See you then.
SomeColorMage
I think she was saying that Ivan would've gone looking for his true home instead of doing the quest, not saying that his quest was to find his home. At least that way it makes sense.
