Context YMMV / RussianOverkill

Go To

* CatharsisFactor: Russian Overkill is not a mod one plays for the challenge. It's a mod solely designed for the most over-the-top violence one can have. The "Drunk Simulator" difficulty even replaces ''all'' weapon drops with the game's six different {{BFG}}s, as well as upgrading most health kits to Supreme Healths.
* CrossesTheLineTwice: The primary source of enjoyment from this mod is simply seeing how boundary-breakingly ludicrous it can get.
* ComplacentGamingSyndrome: There's nothing stopping you from sticking with your favorite weapon of the bunch and powering through a campaign using just that weapon.[[note]]Unless using said weapon is [[SplashDamage highly detrimental to your well-being]].[[/note]]
** That being said, the Yamato is one of the most popular weapons due to its ease of use, WaveMotionGun primary fire and [[spoiler:the ability to skip levels if needed]].
** The Cyborg seems to be the most commonly chosen class, since he boasts powerful punches, a very strong {{Fartillery}} that's quicker and easier to fire off than most other character specials, and the Flare Gun.
* GameBreaker: The entire mod is one big "fuck-you" to the challenge of standard Doom gameplay. Aside from the rather intensive arsenal and the removal of the maximum health and armor limit, you also have a jetpack, and several methods of RecoilBoost which the game encourages you to use, to subvert the usual flow of maps. [[spoiler:Yamato's "Quantum Jump" feature '''''skips the level outright'''''.]] The mod is also pretty much the only way to beat the infamous [[ZergRush nuts.wad]] without cheats or TAS.
* GoodBadBugs: Sometimes it's hard to tell whether or not it's a feature. However, there is one such technique whose intentionality is dubious at best: Dodging the Gopnik's nuke mode by jumping. Provided it detonates below your feet, and is at a minimum horizontal distance away from you, you'll take ZERO damage.
* HilariousInHindsight: Punching an enemy with the Berserker Pack equipped creates a shockwave that damages any enemy that happens to be near your target. The Blood Punch ability from ''VideoGame/DoomEternal'' works in a nearly identical manner.
* ShockingMoments: Playing Russian Overkill for the first time WILL blow your mind to the edge of the solar system. Playing it more after that still provides glorious amounts of entertainment. The sheer amount of content present is mind-boggling. Highlights include:
** Your first time killing yourself with the more powerful weapons. The quotient increases exponentially depending on what power of 10 your hit points are at.[[note]]The maximum amount of damage you can take is 2 million points. It doesn't even take a SUPERWEAPON's splash damage to bring that crashing to zero.[[/note]]
** Pushka is a man-portable tank gun. What makes this Holy Shit-worthy? This is a shotgun replacement. That's right, a man-portable tank gun is considered ''lower tier''.
** The Obliterator, being a minigun that shoots miniature carpet-bombing jet planes.
** Quad-wielding ''quad-barrelled shotguns!''
** [[Manga/FistOfTheNorthStar AAAATAAA- ATATATATATATATATATATATATATATATATATATATATATATATATA]]
** Deploying a shotgun-shell orchestra with the Pantokrator. Bonus points if you sync the orchestral hits with your primary fire, considering the weapon sounds like a damn howitzer. It's what [[Music/PyotrIlyichTchaikovsky Tchaicovsky]] would've wanted.
** [[YouNukeEm THE FUCKING HINDENBURG TWO BEACON.]]
** ALL of the superweapons' alt fire modes are truly awe-inspiring, especially those {{BFG}}s' with their respective AmplifierArtifact activated.
