* AlternateCharacterInterpretation: At first glance Ethan just seems like a well-intentioned idiotic {{Manchild}}; however, there are moments throughout the movie that suggest he is more aware of his own actions then he lets on and is actually a selfish, narcissistic {{Jerkass}}.
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: The entire film, really, but special props go to playing Pink Floyd when Peter and Ethan got stoned.
* BaseBreakingCharacter: Much like Alan from ''Film/TheHangover'', Ethan is either hilarious or downright unbearable. The fact that [[spoiler:he has kept Peter's wallet from him the whole time to make him join in on the trip]] hasn't done any favors.
* CatharsisFactor: [[spoiler:Brief as it is, Peter attacking Ethan after finding out that the latter had selfishly kept his wallet from him the whole time is quite cathartic for those who dislike Ethan.]]
* CrossesTheLineTwice: About 80% of the movie does this.
* HoYay: Ethan is somewhat effeminate, but he seems to be asexual at the very least. He only masturbates to make himself sleepy, and when [[spoiler:Peter gives him a platonic smooch on the cheek]] - his reaction is akin to an immature boy still grossed out by cooties.
* JerkassWoobie: Although Peter isn't exactly benevolent, it's hard not to feel bad for him as he gets constantly humiliated no thanks to Ethan's incompetence.
* ShockingMoments: It starts with "Did that guy on the plane just ''shoot'' Robert Downey Jr?!" and just gets even crazier as the movie continues.
* {{Squick}}:
** On two accounts: one, the scene in the car before Ethan goes to sleep; two, when Peter, Ethan, and Darryl accidentally ingest Ethan's father.
** The fact that Ethan is the one cutting the baby's umbilical cord (while Peter is passed out from loss of blood) is quite cringeworthy. In what world would any doctor (or mother) actually allow a creepy {{Manchild}} like Ethan to do such a thing?!
* TheyCopiedItSoItSucks: In the same way that ''Film/RatRace'' is ''Film/ItsAMadMadMadMadWorld'', except less creative and without all the famous comedians, this film is often passed up as ''Film/PlanesTrainsAndAutomobiles'', but more cynical and without the [[Creator/SteveMartin famous]] [[Creator/JohnCandy comedians]].
