* {{Adorkable}}: Morse's enthusiasm of opera and slightly awkward demeanour can be quite endearing.
* BrokenBase: Generally, a split between fans of [[Series/InspectorMorse the original show]] and [[Series/{{Lewis}} its sequel]], and those who came to ''Endeavour'' with no prior experience of the Morseverse. As ''Endeavour'' has progressed (especially from Series 6 onwards), the former aren't keen on the move towards using contemporary (for the setting) popular music at the expense of classical, and some of the storylines which appear to have the younger Morse moving ''away'' from the characterisation of his older self [[note]] for example, by Series 8 he is to all intents and purposes TheAlcoholic, something the original Morse, although a heavy drinker, quite clearly was not [[/note]]; they also have little time for the Morse-Joan ship as, the obvious chemistry between Shaun Evans and Sara Vickers notwithstanding, [[DoomedByCanon it is a clear non-starter]]. The operatic Series 7 StoryArc involving Ludo was not exactly well-received either.
* CompleteMonster: See [[Monster/MorseVerse here]].
* EnsembleDarkHorse: Resident pathologist Dr Max [=DeBryn=] [[https://www.denofgeek.com/tv/endeavour-saluting-the-wit-and-constancy-of-dr-max-debryn/ has garnered fan affection]] for his dryly witty gallows humor, his compassion for victims, and his bonding with Morse over poetry and their outsider status.
* IronWoobie: Fred Thursday. Between his years in the force and his years in the war, he's got some serious sadness behind his fatherly demeanor.
* JerkassWoobie: ''Jakes'', of all people. [[spoiler: He was abused at his BoardingSchoolOfHorrors but repressed the memories. When he does remember them, he drinks himself into a stupor.]]
* {{Narm}}: The ventriloquism dummy from Neverland. It's a creepy Narm, but comes off more as an Expy of Scarface from Batman than belonging to a continuity with realistic, dangerous mobsters, institutionalized corruption and murder. Nervous giggles ensue when it talks.
* SeasonalRot: Series 5 and 6 took a decidedly DarkerAndEdgier tone compared to its predecessors, following which Series 7 and 8 featured a greater emphasis on [[StoryArc series-long storylines]], suffering in quality compared to earlier series.
* TheWoobie: Poor Morse can't seem to catch a break.
