1* OlderThanTheyThink: As ridiculous as the idea of making Literature/LesMiserables into a FightingGame sounds, this isn't the first time putting the characters of Creator/Victor Hugo's novel into an improbably action-packed setting has happened, albeit as a WeirdCrossover parody: French comedy group Creator/LesInconnus performed a skit, "Les Miséroïdes" in 1991. The skit involves reimagining the characters in a post-apocalyptic / apunkalypse setting after a RobotWar (and featuring action and sounds parodying the cheesy action films of Creator/JeanClaudeVanDamme). Arguably the fact that one fighter on the roster of this game, Robojean, is a robot might be a clever reference to this skit by Les Inconnus.
2* QuirkyWork: Making a very somber and philosophical dramatic work of HistoricalFiction into a fanciful and flashy FightingGame. Yeah, it's safe to say this game has already met the WTF quotient to qualify.
3* StealthParody: Of fighting games according to a least one person who has reviewed Arm Joe. To quote this reviewer "I personally like to think of Arm Joe more as a parody of fighting games: over the top super moves, incredibly difficult boss, and the very obvious references to other games make it hard for me to think otherwise." The choice of Les Miserables to be the basis of a fighting game is also likely intended to parody some of the tropes of the Fighting game genre, granted also done in an affectionate way.
