1* HarsherInHindsight:
2** Homer accidentally getting Edna Krabappel killed echoes what happened to Maude Flanders, though, unlike Maude, we don't see how Homer exactly caused Edna's death. Two years after this episode aired, Edna's voice actress, Creator/MarciaWallace, passed away and [[TheCharacterDiedWithHer she was retired from the series as a result]]. Edna was later revealed to have died following her retirement from the series, but [[NoodleIncident the events behind it were never disclosed]], possibly because of this episode.
3** Despite the RunningGag of characters in the show--including Homer himself--predicting an early death for Homer due to his unhealthy lifestyle, this episode shows him living happily into old age after kicking alcohol. The SequelEpisode "Days of Future Future" reframes this by showing that, technically, he ''didn't'': [[SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome the original Homer died from a heart attack]] when [[ComicBookTime everybody was the same age as in the show proper]], and the Homer of the future is the latest in a long line of ExpendableClone replacements that preserve all of his memories, similar to the CloneArmy of Ralph Wiggums we see in this episode.
