[[https://www.youtube.com/user/derrickcomedy Derrick Comedy]] was a sketch group from New York University that did various Internet shorts on Website/YouTube from 2006 to 2010 that gained them a considerable following to the point of being mentioned in ''Magazine/RollingStone'' (mainly through their BreakthroughHit "Bro Rape"). The shorts were characterized by the common utilization of BlackComedy, tackling topics such as pedophilia, rape, child abuse, and Parkinson's disease. In 2009, they made a full-length film called ''Film/MysteryTeam''.

Its members were Donald Glover (now [[RetroactiveRecognition better known]] for his acting and music as Music/ChildishGambino), DC Pierson (author of ''Literature/TheBoyWhoCouldntSleepAndNeverHadTo''), and Dominic Dierkes. The name stemmed from choosing another name that started with D.

Has nothing to do with the GermanSeries ''Derrick''.
----
!!Derrick Comedy provide examples of the following tropes:
* AlliterativeFamily: A version of this; the members' names are Donald, DC, and Dominic. Dominic also has a full-on AlliterativeName to boot.
* BaitAndSwitch: "New Bike" has a boy's friend start trying to shoot his parents despite the fact that they ''did'' get him a bike. The boy runs to stop him from shooting his mom, but by the time he gets there, it's too late. The boy ends up crying over her body... because she didn't live long enough to tell him where the bike was. [[spoiler: He almost immediately stops crying when he figures out where the bike is]].
* BlackComedyRape: "Bro Rape".
* BlatantLies: In "B-Boy Stance", Prince Reggie Kay's repeated insistence that he doesn't regret having his hands surgically attached to his back can border on this.
** This is how DC and Dominic try to talk their way out of the disastrous presentation in "Ad Campaign". It doesn't go well.
--->'''Dominic:''' ''[Holding an advertisement featuring Maya Angelou]'' The thing you need to know about photography is that when you want to shoot against a white background, you can't use a white person. So, uh, you have to use...Maya Angelou.
--->'''DC:''' [[DiggingYourselfDeeper She is in every picture with a white background. Sometimes they dress her up as a tree-]]
--->'''Dominic:''' Okay! Uh, I think we're done here...
* BookEnds: "Bro Rape" begins and ends with the same scene of, well, bro rape.
* CurseCutShort: In "Keyboard Kid".
-->'''[[AbusiveParents Stepdad]]''': What's he doing? You better not be recording this, boy! I will beat the living shi-
-->'''Keyboard''': [[MoodWhiplash Cool! Alright! C-cool! Alright!]]
* DiggingYourselfDeeper: The sketch "Ad Campaign" is built around this trope, with DC Pierson's character not only going ahead with their disastrous presentation, but he also attempts to explain away the racial connotations of "There are two places black people like to go, and that's Wal-Mart and Six Flags" as pure coincidence...to disastrous results.
-->'''Donald:''' Positive he said "black."
-->'''DC:''' Uh, yeah, see, um, the thing you gotta know about recording sound is that when you say a "T" sound into a microphone, it sorta washes out. So what you wanna do is you wanna say a "B" sound, and that's- that's just, just...that's ''crisper''...to say.
-->'''Donald:''' What about the "lack" part? The ''"lack"'' at the end of "black"?
-->'''DC:''' [[BlatantLies ...that is- that is for...reverb]]-
-->'''Dominic:''' Can I talk to him for a second?
* DumbassDJ: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMrdAr7fNjo&feature=related Johnny B and The Cheese]], who stay in-character even after a wolf has massacred everyone else in the studio and is playing mind games with them.
* DoubleStandardRapeMaleOnMale: The "Bro Rape" sketch.
* DownerEnding: "KP" ends with Kid Parkinson's having an uncontrollable tremor and [[TearJerker sobbing]].
* EntitledToHaveYou: As Melanie points out in "Girls Are Not To Be Trusted," she went on ''one date'' with the guy, and he's acting the way he is.
* ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HRfRLPHk44w He Really Gave It To Me]], which begins by parodying nicknames employees give their bosses. Each time Kevin opens the door, he hears the sound of the nickname given to the boss. It starts with "The Boss" and "Grizzly Bear" and goes downhill quickly. Notable are police sirens, the theme from Film/JurassicPark, Music/JamesBrown being put to sleep, a father explaining sex to his son with a poor choice of props, and three [[Music/ElvisPresley Elvis]] impersonators ordering at a restaurant where the kitchen is out of a lot of stuff.
* {{Expy}}: David Foster from ''Newsline'' in "Bro Rape" is a pretty obvious expy of Chris Hanson from ''Series/{{Dateline}}''.
* {{Fratbro}}: The rape of them is the subject of "Bro Rape."
* HereWeGoAgain: The unseen man in "BJ Girl", after hearing the horrors she has in store if she gave him a blowjob, suggests just having sex instead.
-->'''Girl''': I'm gonna make it ''so'' dry for you!
* JerksUseBodySpray: In "Bro Rape", one sign of being a [[FratBro Bro]] is use of body spray, with one of the bro rapists using a can and a half of Axe Body Spray on a dildo he intended to use on another bro.
* MistakenForRacist: In "Ad Campaign", Dominic has come up with a new advertising slogan: "There are two places that people like to go, and that's Wal-Mart and Six Flags." DC, unfortunately, misheard the word "that" as "black" and turned it into a stereotype, thus producing the rest of the campaign with that understanding. Thus, they're now locked in to giving their presentation to their black boss, who is not amused.
* MoodWhiplash:
** A pretty extreme example. [[http://youtu.be/oQp7Id8iRA4 In Keyboard Kid, Jeffrey starts out cheerfully dancing to the beats of his sampler keyboard]]:
--->"My name is Jeffrey! Cool! Alright! C-c-cool! Alright! Get down! Check it out! Cool! Alright! C-c-cool! Alright! G-g-g-get down! Kick it! '''[[AbusiveParents If I mess up my dad's gonna beat me!]]''' (''[[{{Beat}} 7-second silence]]'') Cool! Alright! C-Cool!"
** Quite a few of their sketches involve this, including "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rcx4_CszaDI Girls Are Not To Be Trusted]]", where a male student intervenes in a number of Filmography 101 short films berating "[[PaperThinDisguise Belanie]]" for cheating on him with his best friend... only to finish the sketch by ''proposing'' to her. Of course [[OnlySaneMan she turned it down]].
** "Ad Campaign" ends with what is supposed to be a touching civil rights tribute that places black cultural figures at Six Flags and Wal-Mart, only to cut to the same cheery slogan used earlier in the short and ending a black kid giving a thumbs up and shouting, "Black!"
* NWordPrivileges: The main joke of "National Spelling Bee", where the judge (who is black) asks the three contestants (all of whom are white) to spell a racial and homophobic slur. Two of them [[EveryoneHasStandards can't bring themselves to finish spelling it]], which gets them disqualified. But after the third one spells it without hesitation...
-->'''Judge:''' I heard what you said.
* TheOner: Most videos employ this to some degree, with many of them being done in one shot.
* OrbitalShot: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gyUsta9mzcY Mafia]] is an impressive three-minute long orbital shot.
* PottyFailure: "Jerry", who pretends to be the "new kid" and later the principal in desperation to hide this.
* RealityWarper: Thomas Jefferson, who according to [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=poEo6So0knU&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL this sketch]] is like a mix between a [[Series/DoctorWho TimeLord]] and [[ComicBook/{{Watchmen}} Dr. Manhattan]].
* RunningGag: The big black dildo in "Bro Rape".
* SpellingBee: "Your word...is 'niggerfaggot'."
* UnbuiltTrope: "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Bc0mG5omTo Daughters]]" lampoons and exaggerates the "kidnapped daughter" setup popularized by ''Film/{{Taken}}'' some two years before the film's release.
* WhyDontYouMarryIt: In "B-Boy Stance"; when Prince Reggie Kay's interviewer repeatedly mentions Jay-Z, Reggie pulls this on him.
