->''"Okay, first off -- and this is a long time coming -- I don't consider myself an analyst. An analyst works with hard data and tries to limit any personal input. I am a reviewer. I share my own thoughts and perceptions with the hope that it gives people food for thought, along with a good laugh. Secondly, you think I fear being attacked? I'M SILVER QUILL! I flee for my life twice a week, and three times on a leap year!"''
-->-- '''Silver Quill'''

Meet Silver Quill. A ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic'' Brony who got started on Website/DeviantArt and then one day decided to create a Website/YouTube account to talk about the latest episodes of the show giving a comedic, but also straight-to-the-point review for each one. He sometimes brings guest reviewers on to assist him in giving each episode a deconstruction, talking about what was done well, what wasn't, et cetera. His mix of thoughtful analysis and hammy humor have quickly made him one of the more popular brony analysts.

While other WebVideo/MLPAnalysis reviewers usually favor ponies as OC, his stand-in in the videos is a hippogriff. Takes the role of the RED Heavy on ''WebAnimation/TF2Analysis''. Also a sometimes participant in ''WebVideo/BroniesReact''.

-----
!!Silver Quill's videos provide examples of:

* AbsurdPhobia: Is afraid of [[Franchise/{{Pokemon}} Mantine]] due to finding its eyes to be creepy.
* AddedAlliterativeAppeal:
** From his review of ''[[ComicBook/MyLittlePonyFriendsForever Friends Forever]]'' #13 featuring Babs Seed and Rarity, after seeing a pony at the roller derby who happens to look like [[LoveGoddess Princess Cadance]]:
--->'''Silver Quill:''' ''Our precious pink princess pummels ponies for a pastime!''
** He also dreams up "Mite-motored minions".
* TheAlcoholic: He regularly comes up with and partakes in drinking games, and it's bitten him in the flank more than once. He claims it's because he's 90% Irish.
* AllJustADream: Three of his videos have ended as such.
* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation: [[invoked]] Silver Quill has his own head canon about certain characters. The most brought up interpretation is Princess Cadance being an adrenaline junkie.
* {{Angrish}}: In trying to figure out how to start his "Tanks for the Memories" review, he tries and fails before jumbling through a bunch of noises and expressions ending with "'''Vexation'''".
* TheArtifact: Silver Quill's hippogriff design predates the actual apparition of hippogriffs in season 8 of the show. He has stated that he will not update the look of his OC to match them, though, as he's grown fond of it.
* AssKicksYou: He roughly pushes Firebrand out of frame with his rump in "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B1lls8B_tJ4 Taking Shining Armor and Cadance Too Seriously]]".
* AssShove: This is what usually occurs with him and his bullhorn/megaphone with it usually being shoved up his head, and once... his flank. He even had an accordion do the same thing to him. To be specific:
** Eliyora once shoved the bullhorn up his head during "After the Fact: It Ain't Easy Being Breezies", for speaking too loudly with it when the Breezies turn up, complete with a BigShutUp from her.
** In "After the Fact: Castle Sweet Castle", Twilight Sparkle does the same thing to him for disturbing her sleep with it.
** The only time an accordion does this is in "After the Fact: Pinkie Pride", when [[Creator/JoshScorcher Firebrand]], in order to get Silver to stop playing it badly, shoves said accordion through his head.
--->'''Firebrand:''' ''[sigh]'' Glad that's over.
** The only time an ''actual'' AssShove occurs is in "After the Fact: What About Discord?" when Silver sneaks up on Starlight Glimmer spying on Twilight and her friends... with yet another bullhorn. Starlight retaliates offscreen while KP looks on in shock. Cue Silver walking past her with said bullhorn shoved up his rump.
--->'''Silver Quill:''' ''Ummm...'' she's ''noooot'' in the mood to ''taaaaalk''...
* BatFamilyCrossover: His [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPXSqvKzkDs "After the Fact: Slice of Life"]] review has cameo appearances by about a dozen [[WebVideo/MLPAnalysis fellow analysts]], including [=Robin0928=], Doodle Dabble, Camegoespony Scatterbrain, Finnthepony, Mad Munchkin, Mary Sue, Sweetie Bloom, Sketchy the Changeling, Lightning Bliss, [=DustyKatt=] and [=CloudCuckooCountry=] [[spoiler:(who is actually the aforementioned Mary Sue in disguise)]]. All of them except for Munchkin and Dusty are out for his blood by the end.
* BecauseYouWereNiceToMe: He refuses to prank Finn because he claims he's one of the few among his colleagues who haven't done anything mean to him. He also thwarts Keychi's attempts to prank him herself.
* BerserkButton: Stealing his comedic bits and {{Running Gag}}s. At least, he gives an indignant "Oi!" At worst, he subjects Toon Critic to TickleTorture for the offence.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Silver is a rather jovial fellow who tends to limit his {{Troll}} antics to minor annoyance, but actually set him off and you can expect immediate and unpleasant reprisal.
* BigBadFriend: With Sombra.
* BigOlEyebrows: His review of "Three's a Crowd" has him invoking this by ripping out a chunk of [[ButtMonkey Flash Sentry]]'s mane to use as faux eyebrows [[InvokedTrope just so he can do a]] FascinatingEyebrow.
* BowelBreakingBricks: Seeing [[ManaDrain Lord Tirek's]] introduction causes him to literally pass a brick.
* BreakingTheReviewersWall: He often talks to characters on the show.
* BrickJoke:
** At the end of the review of "Rarity Takes Manehattan", Silver states that he can't fly because his animator is too lazy to make a flying animation for him. His collaborative review of ''Rainbow Falls'' has him attempting to fly when he sees Toon Critic has a flight animation...
** Comes back again in his review of "For Whom the Sweetie Bell Toils" when [[spoiler: he ''finally'' gets one.]]
** While reviewing the ''Friends Forever'' with Rarity and Babs Seed, Silver Quill blows out his own D'aww Meter the same way Creator/InkRose blew out hers in their "Maud Pie" crossover. He even calls her to tell her she was right.
** While doing a video focusing on Applejack, Silver states he will someday see her eat another kind of fruit after a montage of her talking about apples. Then in his review "Castle Sweet Castle", a clip show her eating strawberries on pancakes and Silver is very pleased.
* ButtMonkey:
** His reviews have him being trolled just as much as he does it.
** In the ''WebAnimation/TF2Analysis'' videos, being portrayed as a hammy Heavy who is abused by others, and has the biggest death count among ''both'' RED and BLU.
** In "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iq960Hqw_h4 Pony Python and the Holy Grail]]", he's the BlackKnight. Yup, from ''Film/MontyPythonAndTheHolyGrail''. Naturally, he loses all four legs and wings.
** Even when doing a crossover on another reviewer's show, he doesn't get a break. "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B1lls8B_tJ4 Taking Shining Armor and Cadance Too Seriously]]" (with Commander Firebrand) ends up with Silver clonked on the head with a lead pipe.
** Silver really seems to have it in for Flash Sentry who always seems to suffer somehow when he makes an appearance.
* TheCameo:
** "After the Fact: Simple Ways" has a cameo from [[Blog/AskFlufflePuff Fluffle Puff]].
** She appears again in his "Castle Sweet Castle" review.
* CanonMarchesOn: Later MLP episodes turned his cutie mark into a retroactive case of SomewhereAnOrnithologistIsCrying.
* TheCatCameBack: At the start of [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QjtzLdHAAo "After the Fact: Studying Starlight"]], Starlight Glimmer tries to get away from Silver Quill by teleporting to random places, only to have the hippogriff uses "cartoon logic" to always be a step ahead of her.
* TheChewToy: Silver Quill gets quite a bit of abuse during his analysis, [[IronButtMonkey some of which normal Hippogriffs wouldn't survive.]] To summarize, he: [[labelnote: Really long list]] is beaten up by his friends; is captured by the Star Spiders; falls in a deep hole no thanks to Siri; is beaten up by [[spoiler:Rainbow Dash]] and [[spoiler:Big Macintosh]]; is electrocuted several times by his producer -- each shock enough to fry a turkey, by the way; is uppercut-ed to the moon by [[spoiler:Big Macintosh]]; is impaled on his own adamantium claws; is charged by the comedy police... while unwittingly committing public nudity; has fan reactions literally blow up in his face; has his head shoved through an accordion; has an ego-meter detonate in his grip; is beaten up by [[spoiler:Apple Bloom]]; is shot out of the Party Howitzer; is tackled by [[spoiler:Fluffle Puff]]; is in the middle of the [[spoiler:universe exploding]]; is sent to the moon by [[spoiler:Celestia]]; is hit by a [[spoiler:Delorean]] and into a tree; has his head shoved up a megaphone; is scorched by a flame geyser; has a cell phone blow up in his face; has been put through ''Film/{{Inception}}'''s [[spoiler:levels by [=GoldenFox=]]]; is turned into a "reverse" hippogriff; falls from a six-story diving board into a pie pan of water; is nearly caught in a pop rocks and soda explosion; gets an arrow shot in his head; has a hangover ''and'' a caffeine rush at the same time; Has his stomach inverted due to hype; is shot through the head with a javelin; gets blown up while trying to reenact the [[Anime/DragonBallZ Over 9000]] meme; is squished underneath Tirek's hoof [[spoiler:and he continues to review stuck in his hoofprint]]; is nearly beaten up by an angry mob consisting of the Mane Six, the Royal Family, and Big Macintosh over all the jokes made at their expense of the series run; tries to lift a minigun, only to fall over due to how heavy it is; gets chased and nearly killed by the BLU Team Analysts; gets beaten up by Rarity and stuffed in a suit that Silver thinks she "made from his own tears"; gets trampled by a muffin-crazed Derpy; ends up with a megaphone on his head (again) for disturbing Princess Twilight's sleep and making crude comments about the bags under her eyes; is blasted by Vegeta's KamehameHadoken; has a fake invitation to the Grand Galloping Gala explode in his face; gets thrown out of the Crystal Palace by Shining Armor; is knocked into an alternate dimension by Voice of Reason; is clonked on the head with a lead pipe; is shot down by automatic anti-air laserguns; is trampled underhooves by [=DustyKatt=]; is blown up by an exploding military drone; is hit by a car; gets crushed by a falling divan; is thrown off of Canterlot's mountain; is run over twice by a speeding Rainbow Dash; is even decapitated by a guillotine and put his head back on upside-down, shot at by Thespio, burned by Eliyora, and been choked by Keyframe, been blasted into the sky buy Luna for calling her a "crone", been rendered comatose by Eliyora with curse words, and been trampled by the Apple clan, a mob of shippers and a giant rock (in that order), been shot by a ubercharged Lightning Bliss, been shot in the head, got a painful medical check from Keyframe that included an suppository against his will, got mobbed by pipsqueak, got his butt kicked from Glup from the Hercioids, got chestbursted by a gingerbread version of himself, was found hanging upside down for no reason, and got his ass kicked by Mad Munchkin in a fit of rage, got scared by a jackalope that looks like angel bunny and ran in to super hot lasers repeatedly that burnt off his RED heavy suit and left him smoldering, joined the Wonderbolts on accident by way of a new drinking game, had to do wing-ups with [=DustyKatt=] on his back and got thrown out by him, shot with a rocket launcher by Jasper Pie for reminding him of his uncle, got eaten and spit out by Twink (Lighting Bliss's pet giant rainbow monster), burned to a crisp by Eliyora, got hit in the head with a size 13 by Anthony C, slapped by Rarity for calling her "pasty", got an bull horn shoved up his flank by [[spoiler:Starlight]], got his head turned into an orange again by drinking from Zecora's cauldron, tied up and burned at the stake by KP for saying Luna was better than De Lancie, got charged by Reinhardt into Eichenwalde and got storm-arrowed by Hanzo, got mauled by Fluttershy's animals (for talking about the books ''Animal Farm'', ''Watership Down'' and ''Old Yeller''), got blasted by Twilight for trying to sell cannonballs to the [=McColts=], got a flamethrower shoved up his ass for pranking Eliyora, tied upside down and forced to binge watch ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyTales'' for putting the Pyro mask on Eliyora, got his castle blown up due to continuity, kidnapped by Keyframe and put into a box with other reviewers for Brony Con, then got caught in an squee explosion due to Lightning Bliss, got shot with a laser from a toaster of all things, got struck by lightning, got hit in the face with a comment, hit with a metal bat to the head 8 times in total (first 3 were for being perverted, last 5 were for saying loot boxes worked), trapped in a bird cage, had a piano fall on him while asleep, and got tied to a party nuke which then was fired, got trampled by Pinkie-Pied warhammer soldiers, got trampled by Black Friday shoppers, got Kidnapped by Said Gingerbread Version of him and tied up in ribbons...[[/labelnote]] Heck, his reporter title is "Universal Punching Bag"! Don't feel too bad for him. He's a horrible, if likable, person.
* CoolOldGuy: Plays this persona, especially in collabs, though that could easily be replaced with {{Troll}} old guy.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: Despite his goofy antics and status as a ChewToy he has managed to accomplish quite a bit of impressive feats during his videos. Just to name a few examples, he has managed to kidnap Celestia several times and sent Prince Rutherford flying with a single punch.
* CurbstompBattle: [[https://youtu.be/lv3Xwen-CQ8 His "Party Pooped"]] review shows a WhatIf were the Yaks actually ''did'' make war with the ponies. The Yaks send an entire army, Equestria... sends [[PhysicalGod Celestia]]. Celestia lets them [[WorfBarrage unload their entire arsenal on her]], [[NoSell without a scratch]], then [[NonLethalKO sends them to the moon.]]
* CutenessOverload: Ends up going "d'aww" at Babs Seed in "After the Fact: Friends Forever 13" that he blows out his "d'aww meter".
* DealWithTheDevil: {{Inverted|Trope}} in "After the Fact: Character vs. Power", where Silver has to "make a deal with the [[Creator/LaurenFaust Fausticorn]]" to fix things after [[spoiler:[[ItMakesSenseInContext Troubleshoes and his OC Clutterstep inadvertently destroy the universe.]]]]
* DeathOfTheAuthor:[[invoked]] The very concept is discussed in the video [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ErRZ-QcyREg "After the Fact: The Derp of the Author"]], about Derpy Hooves and how her role ballooned out of control from the writers of the show.
* DidNotThinkThisThrough:
** Dr. Wolf points out to Silver in "Spike Speculation" that he doesn't consider potential consequences in his little plots, often just working short term with no concern for what may happen as a result.
** Silver Quill gave a big one to Sunset Shimmer about her plans for Equestria. Even if she ''had'' managed to kill Twilight and invade, she'd be face to face with the three princesses, the remaining members of the Mane Six, and the power of the Crystal Heart.
* DownHereShot: Very briefly in the review of "Scare Master", during a roll call the camera has to tilt down for Lightning Bliss (a midget alicorn), just as Baron Tall Tales calls her "short".
-->'''Lightning Bliss:''' Hey!
* DoWrongRight: In his review of "Crusaders of the Lost Mark", he calls out Spoiled Rich for trying to keep Diamond Tiara from befriending the Crusaders in the name of {{Nepotism}}... not because it's wrong, but because, as he points out, [[CoolBigSis AJ, Rarity, and Rainbow]], in addition to being well-known heroes, are (in order) part of one of the founding families of Ponyville, a rising star in the fashion world, and a Wonderbolt-in-training, meaning that Spoiled is more or less shooting herself in the hoof.
* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness: The first two videos that Silver Quill released had a black background. It has changed to show Equestrian locations.
* EveryoneHasStandards:
** Apparently there's a rule for hybrid creatures to not devour another hybrid. This is why Silver didn't have trouble from [[spoiler:the chimera]]. Applies even more when revealed [[spoiler:he's the Anti-Christ... Or Anti-Celestia, or whatever, during Nightmare Night 2014]].
** He's admitted to not being a nice guy, but while taking advantage of the LoopholeAbuse present in "The Good, the Bad and the Pony", he eventually gives up mid taunt because it was "so contrived".
** He is aware of the abuse he takes in his videos, but claims the one species he will never accept a beating from are the Yaks. When Prince Rutherford tries to smash him he sends him flying out of town with a single hit.
* EvilAllAlong: [[spoiler:Nightmare Night 2014 reveals that he's secretly been the Anti-Christ all along. Although this could be considered subverted by the fact that the whole video was a board game being played by the Cutie Mark Crusaders. In "The Shipping Game", he briefly goes into his Anti-Christ form, apparently dates a dragon, and seems to have arranged the show in order to bring together a lot of ponies for her to kill.]]
* ExplainExplainOhCrap: Silver does this in "After the Fact: Luna's Archetype", after he deduces the latter as the "Crone" archetype. Silver realizes what "crone" might've ''also'' meant (an old woman) and nervously tries to explain himself to an angry Luna, but not before she blasts him into the sky.
-->'''Silver Quill:''' ''[nervously]'' Which, I realize doesn't sound very complimentary, ''but if you give me just a few minutes to explain...''\
''[gets blasted into the sky by Luna]''\
'''Silver Quill:''' '''''...IT'S JUST A TITLLLLLLLLLE!!!!'''''
* {{Facepalm}}: Occasionally does this during his reviews. He's also made it a hobby to invoke this reaction from others, as detailed in RunningGag below.
* FireballEyeballs: In "After the Fact: Amending Fences", Starlight Glimmer gets burning eyeballs after Silver Quill dashes out and leaves her to pay a restaurant bill of 1500 bits.
* ForcedTransformation:
** He gets his head turned into an orange by Twilight in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CqoZcoVtUjk "After the Fact: Magical Ethics"]].
** In another review, he gets turned into a "reverse hippogriff" -- front of a pony and backside of an eagle. He isn't happy about it, since he greatly prefers having opposable thumbs.
* ForTheLulz: He does a lot of things to get a rise out of people, even if it's particularly dangerous.
-->'''Digibrony:''' Are you crazy?!\
'''Silver Quill:''' Sources point to yes!
* FourPhilosophyEnsemble: He and Voice of Reason are Realists.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: Everybody has a certain disdain for him because his griffon side makes him a jerk. Firebrand, Mad Munchkin, and Eliyora seem to hate him the most.
* GatlingGood: Silver plays the RED team's Heavy in the ''WebAnimation/TF2Analysis'' videos, complete with his gun [[ICallHerVera Sasha]].
* GilliganCut: In "After the Fact: Slice of Life", Silver Quill makes a joking aside about inviting [=DustyKatt=] (the self-proclaimed manliest brony) to a tea party. To which [=DustyKatt=]'s avatar appears, saying that it's not gonna happen. Except SQ summons the Cutie Mark Crusader to make PuppyDogEyes at him. A cut later, Dusty is attending a tea party with them.
* GoKartingWithBowser: Silver's quartet, as seen in the "Filli Vanilli" review, is composed of [[spoiler:King Sombra, Slendermane, and a tatzlwurm]]. With the reveal that [[spoiler: he's the Antichrist]], this actually makes a lot more sense.
* GoodAngelBadAngel: It is shown in "After the Fact: Magical Ethics" that Silver Quill has two shoulder demons and no angel. And they are quick to start squabbling and fighting each other.
-->'''Silver Quill:''' ''This'' is why I make bad decisions!
* HammerspaceHair: His [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rr6c0RIOxc "After the Fact: Celestia Centerpoints"]] video had Silver popping out of Celestia's mane and claiming that he'd been ''living'' in there for a year while he rebuilt the Castle of the Two Sisters.
* HeelFaceBrainwashing: Silver Quill brings up the nature of the "reforming spell" in his review of "Keep Calm and Flutter On". He calls hypocrisy on Twilight because Discord was portrayed as a villain for forcing the Mane Six to act differently, so it shouldn't be okay if ''they'' do the same.
* HeliCritter: In "After the Fact: Amending Fences", upon seeing Pinkie Pie using her tail to fly, Silver Quill gets envious (part of a running gag about him taking a very long time to get a flying animation). So the hippogriff tries to copy Pinkie by spinning his own tail, but has no control over it and is sent flying backward.
* HeroicBSOD: It's happened at least twice to Quill, complete with blue screens in his eyes. The second time he had to be "rebooted with cuteness" to snap out of it.
* HitMeDammit: At the end of his "Lovable Luna" video, he offers Luna herself a chance to get some pre-emptive karma on him for when he inevitably drives her batty in his next video (Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep?), challenging her to "[[BringIt give him her best shot]]". She steps towards him with a stern glare, before suddenly [[TakeThatKiss kissing him on the cheek]], causing him to faint.
* HypocriticalHumor: He is ''the most humble person in the universe''!
* ImperialStormtrooperMarksmanshipAcademy: Not a very good shot. As seen in his video for the ''WebAnimation/TF2Analysis'' video project.
* InsistentTerminology:
** Silver has gone on record to verify that he is not an "analyst", but a "reviewer", citing the differences between the two.
** He's gone on record to say that he's not "Anti-Celestia", he's "''The'' Anti-Celestia".
--->'''Silver Quill:''' I have nothing but respect for the old girl, I just embody everything she's against.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Much of a {{Troll}} as he is, Silver does show genuine empathy and concern for others at times.
* JourneyToTheCenterOfTheMind: In full ''Film/{{Inception}}'' mode, courtesy of Golden Fox in their review of "For Whom the Sweetie Bell Toils".
* TheKlutz: Not Silver Quill himself, but the earth pony [[OriginalGeneration OC]] of his comics, Clutterstep.
* LargeHam: In '''SPADES'''.
* LaserGuidedKarma: Considering how much of an unrepentant {{Troll}} Silver Quill is, a lot of the abuse he goes through can feel well deserved.
* LateToThePunchline: In "After the Fact: Luna's Archetype", Silver doesn't get Luna's bawdy joke (which was censored) until the very end of the episode, where he suddenly burst into laughter.
* LaughThemselvesSick: Celestia has this reaction when she sees Silver with his head turned into an orange by Twilight Sparkle at the end of his "Magical Ethics" video; laughing so hard she literally falls down with her legs sticking up in the air.
* LauncherOfAThousandShips: InUniverse, he likes to ship Big Macintosh with every other character on the show. Mac is not happy about that. He also launched Lightning Bliss × Flash Sentry.
-->'''Dr. Wolf:''' Silver kidnaps Lightning Bliss!\
'''Silver Quill:''' Mwahaha, and best of all; I'm going to ship her with Flash Sentry!\
'''Everyone:''' NO!!!
* LethalChef:
** In "The Analysis Zone", during a segment in which Dr. Wolf is hosting a cooking show, he brings in Silver Quill as a special guest. Silver then says that the last time he attempted to cook, [[NoodleIncident Celestia declared it a war crime]].
** In "While the Finn's Away", Silver attempts to make a sandwich for Lightning Bliss, but said sandwich contains deep-fried boots and gym socks. Unsurprisingly, Bliss finds the sandwich disgusting, but Silver is offended, saying that he'll just take his "culinary talents" elsewhere.
* LosingYourHead: In "After the Fact: Scare Master", he gets his head cut by a guillotine... but that doesn't stop him from speaking and continuing the review. He later fix it back with bandages, but upside-down.
* MadLibsCatchphrase: "'But Silver, you [alliterated avian] you...'"
* MajorGeneralSong: Sings the second half of this after an ailing Dr. Wolf starts the first half at the end of the "Hooffields and [=McColts=]" review.
* MediumShiftGag: Silver Quill spends the end of the review for "Makes New Friends but Keep Discord" as a live-action quilted puppet after Voice of Reason pushes him through Discord's portal.
* MixAndMatchCritter: Silver Quill is a hippogriff. While guest starring in Mad Munchkin's video about Non-Pony [=OCs=], he says his version of a hippogriff is a griffon-pony hybrid. Seeing that both the chicken and pigeon in his family comes from his father's side, it's safe to say his father was the griffon.
* NoodleIncident:
** Apparently no-one wants to learn how Silver Quill's great granddad (a chicken) ended up beer-battered and ''deep fried''.
** In his review for "Rarity investigates", when he arrives at a crime scene including a ChalkOutline of himself, he claims it's due to a thing with a mayonnaise jar -- "one of those wholesale monstrosities" -- a three-headed wildebeest, and then Princess Luna arrived....
* OnlySaneMan: He is a tad eccentric, but compared to his [[WebVideo/MLPAnalysis colleagues]], [[WorldGoneMad he's more of a voice of reason than]] [[https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGc-sqWRmjZ71IuOLRN6lVA the self-proclaimed Voice of Reason]]... Well, when he's not being [[{{Troll}} the CAUSE of their insanity]]...
* OverlyLongGag: When reviewing the ''Friends Forever'' of Rarity and Babs, he remarks about the comic being over 36% of a certain skit. Then goes on to repeat "36" like a calculator would for several screens, passing several characters.
-->'''Silver Quill:''' 363636363636 -- Math is fun.
* OverpopulationCrisis: Silver discusses this in "After the Fact: A Hearth's Warming Tail", explaining UsefulNotes/ThomasRobertMalthus's theories on population growth versus sustainability as if he's a contestant in a wrestling match, and pitting him up against... Reality, which has so far proven his ideas wrong.[[note]]Silver points out that while lack of resources is a big problem in the world, it is not caused by overpopulation, but by poor distribution and greed[[/note]]
* PipePain: Ends up on the receiving end of this when Creator/LilyPeet cracks him over the head with a lead pipe in "Taking Shining Armor and Cadance Too Seriously".
* PresidentEvil: "After the Fact: Rainbow Rock" features a humanized Discord as the president in the human world. When informed of the danger the Dazzlings represent, he simply nukes the school.
* PungeonMaster: The whole point of his new series "Weekday Pun".
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: Since Ride Along wouldn't stop interrupting him with siren sounds, Silver Quill decides to cut him down.
-->'''Silver Quill:''' You're a stallion, but you're drawn like a mare, and you're a blank flank!\
'''Ride Along:''' ''[{{stunned silence}}]''\
'''Silver Quill:''' Yeah, thought that would shut you up.
* RecordNeedleScratch: At the start of "After the Fact: Keep Calm and Flutter On", the club house music screeches to a halt when Silver Quill in full [[Film/DollarsTrilogy Man with No Name]] get-up shows up, replaced by the appropriate leitmotif. Then it screeches again as the initial music resumes, and we're shown it is Vinyl Scratch (appropriately) who's doing that. It happens a third time when Silver Quill says he's looking for a reviewer for a Discord episode, and DJ Pon-3 gives him a glare.
* TheReveal: [[spoiler:Silver Quill is the Anti-Christ. Maybe. It was a game played by the CMC, so probably not]].
* RootingForTheEmpire: [[invoked]]Defied in "After the Fact: Two Worlds". Silver examines the idea that Nightmare Moon would be a better ruler than Celestia because "it would be safer under Nightmare Moon," disagreeing with it strongly. In particular, Silver argues that Nightmare Moon [[IJustWantToBeLoved wants constant attention]], and she's a despot whose desires begin and end with her, so it would be more like a police state than Equestria as it stands.
* RunningGag: He has several.
** [[ContinuityNod CONTINUITY!]]
** His praising of Creator/JohnDeLancie as if he were a holy figure.
** Things tend to (literally) blow up in his face.
** His drinking games. They don't end well.
** He seems to be invoking one now, hoping to make all of the Mane Six [[FacePalm Face Hoof]] having succeeded with Twilight Sparkle, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Applejack, and Rarity. As he proudly proclaimend, only Fluttershy is left. [[spoiler: In his very next review, he succeeds in doing so.]]
** When someone [[TemptingFate tempts fate]], [[LampshadeHanging he pops up holding the Doom Flag]] (a little black flag with the word "DOOM" written on it in neon green).
* ScaryImpracticalArmor: Before his "Simple Ways" review, he puts on an impressive black hippogriff armor (because he's badly scared of romantic triangle plots)... only to find out [[SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome he can't move in it]].
* ShadowArchetype: {{Discussed}}. Whenever Silver Quill does a video discussing a character's archetype, he also takes a moment to describe their shadow archetypes, the passive shadow and the aggressive shadow. For example, when he discussed Fluttershy's archetype as the Hetira or "Companion", her aggressive shadow would be Spoiled Rich, a GoldDigger who only encourages someone's growth in a way that benefits ''her'', and her passive shadow would be Vapor Trail, an ExtremeDoormat who valued her friendship with Sky Stinger to the point that she enabled his bad behavior and unintentionally stifled his growth.
* ShoutOut: Where to begin? Silver Quill [[ReferenceOverdosed loves pop culture references]].
* ShutUpHannibal: Silver doesn't get broken by Baron Tall Tales' monologue in "After the Fact: Scare Master" and sticks to his guns.
* SpySpeak: In "After the Fact: Slice of Life", after criticizing the episode's twist that Sweetie Drops is a secret agent, Silver is confronted by one cryptically talking mare...
-->'''Sweetie Bloom:''' The mole snuck into the garden last night.\
'''Silver Quill:''' Wait, what?\
'''Sweetie Bloom:''' The bird has flown the bush with two in its hand.\
'''Silver Quill:''' I think that's wrong...\
'''Sweetie Bloom:''' The jam is moldy in the kitchen and the rolling rabbit gathers moss.\
'''Silver Quill:''' I have no idea what you're saying!\
'''Sweetie Bloom:''' The monkeys are restless and my dog has fleas!\
'''Silver Quill:''' Are you thinking before you speak?\
'''Sweetie Bloom:''' Confirm the custard...\
'''Silver Quill:''' Stop saying words!\
'''Sweetie Bloom:''' Over out...\
'''Silver Quill:''' Why does this keep happening?
* StalkerWithACrush: [[spoiler: Slendermane]] is one to him.
* StockScream:
** The Wilhelm Scream has been used in several of his videos, uttered either by Silver himself or by other characters.
** He's also used the "Goofy stock scream" more than once.
* StrictlyFormula: Silver points out in his "Twilight's Kingdom" review that every two-part episode has followed more-or-less the same basic premise. So much so, that [[http://mlp-silver-quill.deviantart.com/art/MLP-Two-Parter-Mad-Lib-478105130 he made a Mad Libs out of it]]. He later points out it's been subverted in "The Cutie Map" where little if any of the premise has been used.
* TakeThatKiss: ZigZagged and PlayedForLaughs in his "Lovable Luna" video. At the end of the video he offers Luna a free shot to do whatever punishment she wants to him as pre-karma for when he inevitably drives her batty in his next video ("Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep"). Luna steps towards him before suddenly kissing him on the cheek, which causes him to giggle happily before fainting. Though Silver offered this to her as a way to punish him it is clear from her smile afterwards that Luna meant it in a friendly way.
* ThatCameOutWrong: In his Luna video regarding her archetype, Silver realizes quickly that "the Crone" doesn't sound very flattering, and is knocked skyward by an angry princess before he has the chance to explain.
* TheTeaser: His review of the ''WesternAnimation/{{BraveStarr}}'' episode "Fallen Idol" opens with news footage about the sexual assault allegations against Creator/BillCosby, followed by Silver Quill commenting about [[BrokenPedestal how he used to look up to Cosby]] before eventually remarking that he was "looking more for [[Series/TheCosbyShow Cliff Huxtable]] than [he] was Bill Cosby". This serves as a prelude for the episode itself, which focuses on [=BraveStarr=] himself being let down by someone he considered a hero.
* TooDumbToLive: Just look at that ''really long list'' in TheChewToy above, and you'll be surprised at how he managed to survive this long as some of them were the fault of his own stupidity.
* TooKinkyToTorture: Silver is amazingly glib about how much he suffers, outright joking about his pain as it happens and even expecting reprisals the instant his fun is over. It seems to be the main reason he keeps causing trouble as any discipline just slides right off.
* ToothyBird: Silver's beak gets a full denture when sporting a big grin.
* TranquilizerDart: At the beginning of "After the Fact: For Whom the Sweetie Belle Toils", Silver Quill is put out of commission by a dart shot by Golden Fox, just as he's about to say who's his favorite princess.
* {{Troll}}: By his own admittance as of his Flash Sentry video.
* ATwinkleInTheSky:
** The final fate of Silver Quill at the end of the "Pinkie Pride" review, after [[Creator/JoshScorcher Commander Firebrand]] ejects him from the FOB via Cheese Sandwich's Party Tank. With Goofy's scream for good measure.
** Also happens to him when he calls Princess Luna a "crone" in his [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQ9ODDsYyJI "After the Fact: Luna's Archetype"]] video.
* TheUnpronounceable: He constantly fails to pronounce Countess Coloratura correctly in his review of "The Mane Attraction".
* WeaksauceWeakness: With all he's been through, it turns out he's really susceptible to cuteness. [[spoiler:It's what finally kills him. [[DeathIsNotPermanent He comes back to life by next episode]].]]
* WingdingEyes: Silver Quill's gone starry-eyed more than once when fanboying.
* JustForFun/XMeetsY: Invoked -- in Silver Quill's review of an episode of ''WesternAnimation/{{BraveStarr}}'', he describes the character Thirty-Thirty as "''[[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic Friendship Is Magic]]'' meets ''Film/TheExpendables''."
