[[WMG:Deacon represents 1980's vampires.]]
There is no doubt that each of the main characters are meant to represent different interpretations of vampires. Viago is meant to represent the Romantic Vampires associated with ''Literature/TheVampireChronicles'' by Creator/AnneRice, Vladislav is meant to be based off of [[Creator/GaryOldman Gary Oldman's]] Dracula from ''Film/BramStokersDracula'', Petyr represents the earliest stages of interpretation found in Count Orlock from ''Film/{{Nosferatu}}'' and Nick is meant to be a TakeThat at the expense of ''Literature/TheTwilightSaga''. However, people have a hard time figuring out what Deacon is meant to be.

Lots of people like to see him as a representation as [[Creator/BelaLugosi Bela Lugosi's]] Dracula, but the only real connection to this is that of Jackie playing the role as his "Reinfield." It is much more in-line with who he is as a parody character in that he represents vampires that could be found in films during the '80's and early 90's. He is portrayed as something of a wannabe bad-boy, being the "kid" of the group before Nick is sired, something you could see as a reflection to vampires that embrace the punk-aesthetic like Spike from ''Series/BuffyTheVampireSlayer'' or the Titty Twister vampires from ''Film/FromDuskTillDawn''. He is even the one to make the "spaghetti/worms" reference from ''Film/TheLostBoys'', arguably the most likely film to represent the 80's vampire (next to ''Film/FrightNight1985'', anyway), the fact that his desire to act cool fails so spectacularly being the joke.

[[WMG:Petyr turned Nick into a vampire as an “apology” for the flatmates’s behavior.]]
The sequence of the flatmates chasing Nick throughout the house is PlayedForLaughs, but there’s no denying the fact that it’s essentially a scene of vampires “playing with their food”. The trio seems to have a lot of fun terrorizing Nick, but for an ancient vampire like Petyr this may seem like rude behavior to their “guest”. Even if Nick is supposed to be their food, the “fun” is drawn out for an unnecessary amount of time.

So Petyr turned Nick into a vampire because he didn’t like how the flatmates were treating him. To an ancient vampire, sharing the gift of immortality would be seen as a proper apology to Nick.

[[WMG:Nick turned Jackie into a vampire out of spite.]]
It seemed strange that Nick gave Jackie her wish and turned her into a vampire after she set him up as food for the flatmates. However, Nick didn’t turn Jackie out of the kindness of his heart. Nick understood that being a vampire wasn’t all that great, and even if it was what Jackie wanted Nick undoubtedly wanted her to suffer for setting him up. Maybe he also sought to stick it to Deacon — turning his familiar behind his back. Whatever Nick’s motive, he didn’t turn Jackie as a favor to her.
