Creator/{{Nintendo}} has been no stranger to {{exergaming}}. In 1987, they distributed the originally Bandai-published game ''World Class Track Meet'' for the Platform/NintendoEntertainmentSystem in the West, which was controlled entirely with a pad called the Power Pad. A more recent and far more successful example was ''VideoGame/WiiFit'' for the Platform/{{Wii}} in 2007. On September 6, 2019 Nintendo announced they were coming back around to that concept by teasing some new accessories for the Platform/NintendoSwitch in a new teaser video. On September 12, 2019 that concept was revealed in full with the new game ''Ring Fit Adventure'' which would release worldwide on October 18, 2019.

Instead of an unthemed workout like the earlier ''Wii Fit'' series, ''Ring Fit Adventure'' is a fully-featured (albeit lighthearted) [[MedievalEuropeanFantasy fantasy RPG.]] [[note]]Some fans have taken to calling it [[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaBreathOfTheWild "Out-of-Breath of the Wild."]][[/note]] In the game, a peaceful kingdom is invaded by Dragaux, a giant, chiseled dragon with an ego to match his oversized muscles. To defeat him, the player teams up with Ring, a sentient Pilates ring, then travels the countryside collecting treasure, becoming fit, exploring remote locations, collecting treasure, and fighting Dragaux's forces along the way. Like most [=RPGs,=] battles are turn-based, with the player inflicting damage by how well they performs various exercises. By improving their character level, players acquire more complex and more powerful routines.

The game comes with two new Joy-Con accessories: the Ring-Con and the Leg Strap, which hold the Joy-Cons and use their motion controls to translate the player's movements into game action. The game also includes a General Fitness Mode for players who want to exercise without dealing with the story line, and a "Silent Mode" for players who don't want to disturb their neighbors with overly vigorous workouts. There's also a "Multitasking Mode" wherein you can use the ring-con with attached joycon as an exercise device on its own without the Switch being powered. It will log up to 500 reps in this mode and reward you for an in-game coin for every rep you do.

On March 26, 2020 a new update for the game released that added a rhythm game as well as giving Ring an option for a female voice. The update also added a Quick Run Mode where you can run casually through the stages without experiencing any battles or gaining experience points.

The debut video is [[https://youtu.be/F1orju1NsN8 here]].
----
!!This game demonstrates the following tropes:

* AbilityRequiredToProceed: World 4's trip to Dragaux looks suspiciously short at first until you find that you need Ring's river-crossing 'shining power' to go any further and thus need to complete the whole world. The same occurs in World 12, where you need to acquire the final power "Flight" to proceed.
* AbsurdlyHighLevelCap: The maximum level you can reach in Adventure Mode is 999.
* ADogNamedDog: A ring named Ring.
* AdorableEvilMinions: Pretty much all of the enemies, many of which are based on exercise equipment. Special mention goes to [[TheGoomba the Hoplins]], little tadpole-like creatures that often get winded when they fight you.
* AIIsACrapshoot: [[spoiler:Dragaux's dark influence starts affecting the robots around World 17 leading to the Beserk Robot enemy line. The robots that run the gyms are still fine though.]]
* AnimateInanimateObject: Ring, the in-game representation of the Ring-Con controller (and, more broadly, a pilates ring). It gives advice, performs various actions, and high-fives the player after a victorious battle. This extends to many other creatures in the game, which are likewise forms of various exercise equipment, such as Kennlebells (kettlebell weights with doggish ears instead of handles), Matta Rays (manta ray-like yoga mats), and Protean Shakers (which look like nautili living in plastic water bottles).
* AndYourRewardIsClothes: Some of the sidequests you complete reward you a new top, bottoms or shoes which can give nice bonuses like extra defence or attack.
* AntiFrustrationFeatures:
** If you lose to Dragaux, you have the option to skip straight to him instead of starting the level from the beginning.
** If you're worried that jogging in place will be too noisy, there's a "Silent Mode" that lets you "jog" by lightly squatting instead.
** If an enemy attacks after any exercise move that requires sitting down or looking away from the screen, the game throws up the prep screen for Ab Guards that you normally get the first time doing them in a session, to prevent you from accidentally triggering a guard while you're getting up.
** Assist Mode allows you to replace exercise actions for certain body parts with Joycon-based controls, in case that type of exercise isn't an option due to joint pain or any other reason.
* AntiPoopSocking: If being a physically-strenuous exercise game wasn't enough to limit the length of your sessions, every 10 minutes of exercise the game will gently suggest you end your session, to ensure you don't overexert yourself.
* ArtificialLimbs: It turns out that [[spoiler:Titanium White]] has these as a result of an accident.
* AwesomeButImpractical: The healing poses. At first, it may seem beneficial to use these skills. However, it does use up a turn and given the generosity of items, you can gain healing smoothies quicker while not exhausting a heart.
* AutoRevive: Certain items like the Peach Smoothie automatically revive you if you lose all your hearts in battle.
* BeamOWar: More like flex-o-war, as the named bosses will use attacks manifesting as an energy leg, arm, or torso that you must counter with your own.
* BigBad: Dragaux is responsible for all of the danger in the story and the player must stop his ambitions from coming true.
* BlockingStopsAllDamage: Defending against certain large attacks will leave you completely unharmed if executed correctly. Some items on the skill tree also increase your chance of taking no damage when guarding.
* BlowYouAway: Squeezing the Ring-Con causes Ring to blow a bust of wind, which is used in-game to smash objects and propel the player over obstacles.
* BrokenAesop: A minor example is that the game will periodically advise that taking days off to recover rather than exercising every day is a healthy approach. At the same time, the game will reward the player with titles for playing up to 10 consecutive days.
* TheBully: Dragaux is an arrogant bodybuilder who believes he's better than everyone else, even when he gets his ass kicked countless times by you.
* ButtMonkey: Poor Hubby gets attacked by monsters when looking for ingredients and when you fulfill his requests to bring a nice smoothie, it usually gets drunk by his wife instead before he gets a chance himself.
* ChestMonster: Some chests encountered during levels will run away from you, requiring you to chase it down to get its contents.
* ColorCodedElements: Insofar as the different types of exercise serve as elements in the game, arms are red, torso is yellow, legs are blue, and yoga is green. Ring's power to deal extra damage to enemies of the same color as an attack is explicitly named "Color Coding".
* CookingMechanics: The player can procure and prepare a wide variety of smoothies -- a NonIndicativeName that also covers a wide variety of liquid food such as juice, soda, tea, soup, and pudding. Notably, much of the smoothie lineup consists of typical healthy drinks; the equivalent of a low-level healing potion, for instance, is a Spinach Smoothie.
* CopyAndPasteEnvironments: You'll come across the same [[GreenHillZone forests,]] factories, mountains, water areas, etc, albeit at different times of day and in different weather conditions. However, the various obstacles requiring different Fit Skills you come across keep things fresh and is good for training. And the environments look really nice, [[SceneryPorn especially at sunset.]]
* TheCorruption: The "dark influence" that Dragaux wields is basically a family-friendly version of this. In addition to creating evil monsters, it has psychologically debilitating effects to people not strong enough to resist it, and can induce BrainwashedAndCrazy with enough exposure.
* CrateExpectations: Crates can be broken by pushing in on the Ring-Con. Sometimes this is required to stop them from blocking your path but there are also crates scattered about that can be broken for ingredient drops. There's even a crate-smashing mini-game available.
* CriticalAnnoyance: When you're running low on health, Ring will exclaim, "Careful! You don't have many hearts left!" every turn until you heal yourself. This is especially bad in the first two worlds, when you don't have any way to heal yourself except the occasional health pickup in the overworld.
* CryingWolf: [[MeaningfulName Linus]] likes to trick his fellow villagers frequently, his latest lie being that the area nearby contains monster deer. [[spoiler:Dragaux's dark influence makes this true along with other corrupted animals, causing Linus to try and capture one to make the others believe him.]]
* CuteMachines: The robots that run the Game, Fitness and Battle Gyms.
* DamageIncreasingDebuff: A few of your opponents including Dragaux can temporarily reduce your defence as well as buff their own attack.
* DecapitatedArmy: When you defeat a boss, their minions are also automatically defeated.
* DifficultButAwesome: Cranking the difficulty at the hardest setting. Yes, it adds a lot more repetitions, but you gain a lot more experience in the game where you are levels much higher than the recommended levels during progress.
* DisproportionateRetribution: In one of the worlds, all the children are turned into ghosts meaning that adults can no longer see them causing the adults to think that the children have been just disappeared en masse. It turns out that [[spoiler:Abdonis turned the kids into ghosts because he was annoyed at them calling him old.]]
* DualAgeModes: [[spoiler: Dashley]], whom the player meets in World [[spoiler: 5]], is eventually revealed to be an elderly woman who becomes a younger woman when she is able to maintain a steady exercise routine.
* DiscOneNuke:
** The Carrot Soup (carrot and onion). Doubles experience per battle may sound like it is limited to just a battle. However, boss battles (mainly the Dragaux Stadiums) or the continuous battles generate a lot of experience because they require more reps on exercises, which counts as part of the combined experience you get at the end of the battle. Normally, each level lists the recommended minimum level to approach the levels. However, using Carrot Soup during those specific battles will ensure that you gain a lot more experience required so you don't feel underleveled when going to courses. Make Carrot Soup (and later on Persimmon Smoothies) a routine on those battles and you can start one-hit knockouts against enemies.
*** Maximizing the XP grind gained by using Carrot Soup or Persimmon Smoothies also gives healing moves an additional use, especially during the multiphase battle gyms. Healing moves also contribute to XP the same way damaging moves do, and since they don't attack enemies and possibly prematurely end the skill, you always get the full additional 300 XP, with the smoothies doubling it to 600. The turn usage also provides additional niche XP gains, such as letting the enemies attack you (which grant 10 XP per ab-guarded attack) and letting Megaphauna have another opportunity to either give the enemy group a defense buff for the next turn (reducing your damage output to let you get more reps or even full moves for even more XP) or call for backup to revive/replace fallen allies (which has a chance to be a gold hoplin for additional money or a rare hoplin for a major XP bonus).
** Yoga. Yoga's niche is that it has comparable damage with other Fit Skills, but requires less reps. Although each individual rep takes longer (it ''is'' yoga, after all), the fact that Fit Skills automatically cancel when all possible attack targets are defeated (unless you switch the settings in the menu) means that you can plow through enemies faster early on by just using Yoga to do less work for more efficiency. There's a reason you get the Green Skill smoothie recipes much later than the others. Once you obtain stronger Fit Skills of other colors, Yoga becomes a bit less desirable, but it does remain competitive and viable.
* ElementalRockPaperScissors: After clearing World 2, Ring regains his first power, known as "Color Coding". This allows you to deal bonus damage to enemies that are the same color as the Fit Skill you use.
* EliteFour: The Four Masters, which represents the four exercise types -- arms (Armando), legs and thighs (Allegra), core (Abdonis), and yoga (Guru Andma). [[spoiler:After losing to Dragaux, they're brainwashed by the dark influence to serve as his bodyguards.]]
* EnemySummoner: The Megaphauna, though the summons can sometimes fail.
* EternalEngine: The "gym" aesthetic levels show shades of this. Conveyor belts, sometimes with boxes on them, elevators, and eternally raising and dropping fitness machine weights make up the architecture.
* {{Exergaming}}: Easily 2019's most high-profile embodiment of this trope.
* FetchQuest: Some requests ask for specific smoothies or soups to which it is sometimes beneficial to go grinding for ingredients.
* ExactWords: When the Magic Robot [[CannotTellALie (which is programmed to always tell the truth)]] is asked who has the steeliest buns, it answers Titanium White. When the Magic Robot is asked whose buns are like steel yet made of flesh, the Magic Robot answers Allegra. Both statements are correct so why the difference? [[spoiler:Turns out that Titanium White is a {{Cyborg}} thanks to numerous cybernetic enhancements so her buns are quite literally steel. Allegra's question was metaphorical but her intensive training has given her steely buns but still actual flesh.]]
* ExperienceBooster: Items like the Carrot Smoothie increase the amount of experience gained in battle when used. A full set of certain clothing also does this.
* FlamingHair: Seen on the player's character; the flames' intensity changes according to how well the player performs each exercise. The flaming hair manifests as a long ponytail, igniting the female hero's already-existent ponytail while causing the male's spiky hair to fire up into a large tail.
* FlintstoneTheming: Everything in the game is themed around exercise, exercise equipment, and fitness concepts in general. Your partner, Ring, is a sentient pilates ring, and your ArchEnemy Dragaux is a JerkJock in a leotard. Enemies are hybrids of animals and exercise equipment, like the Matta Ray (a manta ray crossed with a yoga mat), Kennelbells (dogs crossed with kettlebell weights), and Puffersquish (pufferfish-like yoga balls). Treasure chests are kept secure with a heavy barbell, and coins resemble golden barbell weights. One of the level themes is a factory-like EternalEngine but with exercise machines lifting weights and conveyor belts running in perpetuity. Your armor takes the form of sneakers, sweatbands, and moisture-wicking t-shirts, while your potions are replaced with various healthy-eating foodstuffs like juices and homemade fruit soda. The elements are represented with various forms of exercise (Arms/chest, abs, glutes/legs, and yoga).
* FloatingPlatforms: Giant floating rocks and islands pepper the Dragaux stages, presumably as a side-effect of the dark influence.
* GameplayAndStorySegregation: [[NewGamePlus Extra Mode]] changes the dialogue between characters and raises the difficulty, but retains the same levels and animations as the main game. This means that [[spoiler:despite the main game ending with Dragaux being freed from the dark influence and promising to rebuild the Dragaux Stadiums, the Dragaux Stadium levels in Extra Mode are still ruined, Dragaux is surrounded by the aura of the dark influence, and Ring and Dragaux give each other a DeathGlare before your first battle (or rather, "training") with him.]]
* GenerationXerox: Honey and Hubby look exactly like [[spoiler:Honey's grandparents Sweetie and Snookums in the Land of Hades.]]
* GiantEnemyCrab: Scuttlebells are essentially a cross between a dumbbell and a crab. When both claws are lifted, they can hit for a surprising amount of damage.
* GirlsWithMustaches: Can be invoked for the female character with the Armando Outfit.
* TheGoomba: Hoppers, little tadpole-like cyclops.
* GreenEyedMonster: [[spoiler:Allegra]] pursues a woman named Titanium White as the former can't stand the thought of someone having steelier buns than her. The end result is that Titanium White [[spoiler:gets drained of her motivation, perseverance and passion so she can no longer train.]]
* GuideDangIt:
** There is no indication that using Ring Pull on a fleeing treasure chest will force it to slow down.
** You can blast out air at signs and posts to get some extra rings. This is only mentioned rarely in dialog pop-ups during a mission.
* HardModePerks: The game gives you more EXP for doing exercises the higher the difficulty it's set on. Naturally, this means the highest difficulty (30) gives the most EXP.
* HarderThanHard: In addition to the usual Novice and Advanced difficulties, Rhythm Game has Super-Advanced and Ultra-Advanced charts for each song. [[NintendoHard They're as hard as advertised.]]
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler: After defeating Dark Dragaux in the final world, he is freed from the dark influence and apologises for all the trouble he caused. Ring suggests he make up for it by opening real Dragaux Stadiums across the lands for the people.]]
* HiddenDepths: Honey is more or less fluent in [[RoboSpeak Binarese,]] the robot language you encounter in World 19. It's very valuable for the expanding robot demographic after all. (When you obtain clothing that lets you understand the language, Binarese is pretty much like MediaNotes/JavaScript.)
* InconvenientlyPlacedConveyorBelt:
** All over the place, typically moreso within the gym-themed levels, naturally.
** The minigame "Dreadmill" features another one of these. Unusually for the trope however is that obstacles approach perpendicular to the treadmill's direction rather than parallel to it.
* InfinityMinusOneSword: Various Level 3 Fit Skills. If you managed to save up your Skill Points on your Skill Tree before reaching Level 130, you can access some of the most powerful Level 3 Fit Skills in the game very early.
** The Wide Squat and the Pendulum Bend are the most notable ones. Outside these 2, there are no Level 3 Attacks in the game that have 560 or higher Attack and can hit 3 enemies at once.
** The Knee-To-Chest (700) is considered to be a boss killer in the early stages of the game. This only gets succeeded once you get skills that go past 700 at level 188 (Overhead Arm Twist) up to 840 at level 212 (Overhead Lunge Twist).
** The Boat Pose (495) and Overhead Arm Spin (490) is an early nuke if you saved up your Skill Points for those moves. Being able to wipe out 5 enemies at once in 1 shot early on will make the game go much faster at that point in time. These only get succeeded by Mountain Climber (510), but you would have to wait until Level 200 for that.
* InfinityPlusOneSword: All of the Level 4 Fit Skills once you begin Master Mode becomes equally this. Attacks are either 1000 for single-enemy, 745 in 3-enemy attacks, and 655 for all-enemy attacks. All without need of recharge at all. You can finally balance out your workouts without relying on the highest Level 3 attacks that causes imbalance on workout routines.
* ItsUpToYou: Absolutely no other character provides any help whatsoever in fighting back against Dragaux or the dark influence, meaning that the player and Ring are the only entities capable enough to handle the problem.
* InterfaceSpoiler: Fit Skills are conspicuously marked with a star. Sure enough, at level 65, the [[SkillScoresAndPerks skill tree]] begins to unlock two-star skills, and adds three-star skills at level 130.
* IntrepidMerchant: Honey and Hubby have a shop in every world you travel to apart from the first couple. While Hubby is rather reserved, [[PluckyGirl Honey is quite happy to go exploring for items and the like.]] As a result, you sometimes have to go for looking for her before she gets into serious trouble.
* ItemCrafting: Ingredients obtained in the levels can be used to create smoothies, soups, and other liquid foods that grant effects like restoring health or powering up certain attacks.
* JerkJock: Dragaux, [[WordOfGod who embodies the worst aspects of gym culture]] like extreme competitiveness and bullying.
* JustAddWater: Smoothie crafting is this. All you need is the relevant ingredients and Ring's Smoothiecraft power; the process of making smoothies is simply throwing all the ingredients into Ring and squeezing it out as a liquid.
* LegFocus: Befitting the Four Masters' leg expert, Allegra's well-toned legs are thicker than her torso and longer than the entire rest of her body. Her [[spoiler:boss fight]] [[FeetFirstIntroduction begins]] with a [[MaleGaze prolonged shot]] of her legs and rear before panning out to show the rest of her.
* LeotardOfPower: Dragaux wears a tight dark-grey onesie.
%%* LOL69: The total amount of worlds in the game. (ZCE: You have to explain how this is a joke about the sex number and not just the number 69 coming up coincidentally.)
* MakeMeWannaShout: Megaphauna enemies attack in this manner when they're not trying to summon another monster.
* MarathonLevel: Literally, especially the [[TheVeryDefinitelyFinalDungeon final confrontation]] with Dragaux.
* MarathonBoss: The final fight against Dragaux has at least 10 healthbars to deplete.
* MetalSlime: Gold enemies drop a lot of gold, while rare enemies, which are silver, provide lots of experience upon defeat, but both will flee if the battle is not won quickly. They appear in special encounters on the overworld map, but can also be summoned by Megaphauna.
* MickeyMousing:
** Skills which involve constant motion rather than assuming and holding poses encourage you to time your motions to the music.
** Smack Back, when played perfectly, has the robots' throws and your hits synced up with the music. It's notably the only minigame to do so.
* MirrorBoss: The Four Masters attack the same way you do, using glowing projections crated by them performing exercises.
* MookMedic: Matta Rays are monsters with a body reminiscent of yoga mats. They can spread themselves out on the ground to restore their own HP, or let one other monster rest on themselves to heal them.
* MoreThanMindControl: [[spoiler:The Four Masters]] fall to Dragaux's dark influence partially due to their own perceived weaknesses.
** [[spoiler:Allegra]] became [[GreenEyedMonster frustrated and jealous]] that she could never beat her mentor despite constantly training hard. She admits she also let her status get to her head and [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone she's ashamed at being so easily manipulated.]]
** [[spoiler:Armando thinks that compared to the other masters,]] [[IJustWantToBeSpecial he is nothing special]] and he also [[DesperatelyCravesAffection really wanted a girlfriend.]] As a result, he decided to train until his physique was flawless and open a dojo with the hope of attracting an admirer. Unfortunately, he only got trainers who wanted to get beefy and as such, he felt even lonelier.
** [[spoiler:Abdonis believed that]] [[TheOnlyOneITrust the only person he could rely upon was himself,]] reckoning that he only had co-workers, not friends, and that even his mother had abandoned him. He knew that Dragaux was using him but by this point, he couldn't bring himself to care.
** [[spoiler:Guru Andma [[FeelingTheirAge worried about getting old and weak]]]] and not being able to look after the children. This, she believes, is exemplified by [[PlayedForLaughs only being able to eat two bowls of rice at every meal instead of three.]]
* MorphWeapon: Ring can shift into a paddleboat or a set of wings to help you get through certain courses.
* MundaneUtility: One of Ring's powers is to make smoothies (and some other foods like milk pudding and soup); that's it. There's nothing special about the smoothies, as normal people like Hubby can make functionally identical drinks with a blender, and Ring still requires the constituent ingredients to prepare a recipe. The only real special thing about these smoothies is [[JustAddWater how they're prepared]].
* MuscleAngst: According to [[ExpositionFairy Ring]], when he first met Dragaux, the latter was scrawny and insecure about his body.
* {{Narcissist}}: Abdonis is super proud of his looks and especially his abs.
* NeverSayDie: Explicitly averted in World 21 when [[HenpeckedHusband Hubby]] tells Honey that she can't go searching for The Land of Hades because it's full of dead people. Honey replies that if she can get into The Land Of Hades, [[BlackComedy she can say hi to her grandma.]] Played straight however in World 20 when [[spoiler:Dragaux consumes the Four Masters and they get sent to the Land of Hades.]]
* NewGamePlus: Once you've completed the main story, it adds Extra Mode, which takes the main story's maps and ups the stats of enemies to be more in line with the level you should be at while also changing the dialogue to indicate that it takes place after the main story. Beat Extra Mode, and you get access to Master Mode.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: If you hadn't walked up to a sealed Ring in the middle of nowhere and listened to [[BigBad Dragaux's]] pleas to break the seal, the whole world never would have been in danger. But on the flipside...
* NiceJobFixingItVillain: If Dragaux hadn't tricked you into freeing him, it wouldn't have led to you finding Ring and working in tandem to take down Dragaux.
* NoIndoorVoice: Armando has a habit of randomly shouting exclamations.
* NoodlePeople: Allegra's face, upper body and arms are impossibly slim, and her legs, while strong and muscular, are ''extremely'' long.
* NotMeThisTime: In the second half of Quizton, the player encounters a character who's very knowledgeable about core exercises. Ring is convinced that he's another one of Abdonis' disguises and has the Trainee pinch him, but Abdonis appears right afterwards to confirm he's not even trying to hinder the pair this level.
* NotTheIntendedUse: Various exercises can be exploited for a much easier adventure mode progress or flat-out effortless. Don't like squats? Sit down in a chair and move your leg. Don't like some yoga poses that require balance? Hog a wall or chair. Don't like some of the exercises that require only your left leg? Take out the Joy-Con from your leg and exploit the movement. The list goes on.
* NumericalHard: Increasing the difficulty increases the number of reps you do in battle (though the damage output is the same across all difficulties), and also increases how long you hold each rep.
* OffToSeeTheWizard: World 11 has the player join up with a woman named Scarecruel [[note]]a reference to the Scarecrow[[/note]], a Cowardly Strongman [[note]]The CowardlyLion[[/note]], and a Toned Man [[note]]a play on Tin Man[[/note]] to reach the Valley of Wishes and wish for a way to stop Dragaux. [[spoiler:The three are Allegra, Armando, and Abdonis in disguise respectively, and the Valley of Wishes is a trap they set.]]
* OldMaster: Guru Andma, the yoga master, is a cute little old lady, and said to be the one who keeps the other three of the Four Masters in line.
* OurDragonsAreDifferent: Dragaux is here to flex all over your tiny [[Characters/SaturdayNightLive girly man]] muscles.
* PlayEveryDay: The game is designed as a workout program, encouraging players to get a workout routine in once a day. Multitask Mode allows you to accumulate up to 500 ring presses and pulls per day "outside" the game for a bonus to the main game. However, unlike ''Wii Fit'', the game won't punish you for skipping days, and outright doesn't acknowledge skipped days unless you stop playing for several weeks[[note]]And even then, it doesn't guilt trip you or anything, instead suggesting that you turn the difficulty down if you haven't been doing other exercise in that time[[/note]]. It's understandable, since many tips make a point that the player should take days to recover if a workout left their muscles aching.
* PowerUpFood: Smoothies serve as consumable items that can restore your health or grant a variety of {{Status Buff}}s. You can buy them from shops or collect ingredients to blend them yourself.
* PunnyName: All of the enemies have punny names (for example, Kennelbells, dog-faced kettlebells), as do the Four Masters: '''Arm'''ando, '''Ab'''donis, Al'''leg'''ra and the elderly Guru Andma ("grandma").
* PurpleIsPowerful: Stronger monsters, Dragaux himself and [[spoiler:the brainwashed Four Masters]] are surrounded by a purple aura during battle.
* RapidFireFisticuffs: You can learn the ability to use Rush Attacks on enemies that you stun with Fit Skills, which involve repeatedly performing a motion such as pressing the Ring-Con or bicycle kicking to rapidly hammer the target with numerous extra attacks that inflicts a bit of extra bonus damage. You can even learn how to make a Smoothie that guarantees a Rush Attack on your next move.
* RareCandy: Drinking a Dragon Drink will cause the player character to immediately go up a level. There are also Strength Drinks and Defense Drinks, which will permanently increase the stat in their respective names upon drinking as well as Skill Drinks that give you a spendable Skill Point.
* RhythmGame: A Rhythm Game mode was added as a side mode in a March 2020 update, allowing you to exercise in time to a variety of featured ''Ring Fit'' tracks, in addition to tracks from ''VideoGame/SuperMarioOdyssey'', ''VideoGame/Splatoon2'', ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaBreathOfTheWild'', and ''VideoGame/WiiFit''.
* RuinsForRuinsSake: Downplayed but many of the areas you visit have broken bridges, paths and ring-like structures and much of the landscape is dotted with colossal statues of what are presumably past heroic trainers.
* SetBonus: Some equipment come in sets that grant an additional effect if every part of the set is equipped.
* ShapingYourAttacks: Your attacks during the monster battles take the form of the body part exercised; [[PowerFist fists]], [[GiantFootOfStomping feet]], and abs. The exception is yoga-based moves, which use lotuses.
* ShrineToSelf: Dragaux's stages are full of giant statues depicting himself in various show-off poses.
* ShootTheMedicFirst: Whenever an enemy entourage includes a Matta Ray, Matta Slay, or Megaphauna, it's in your best interest to kill it as quickly as possible -- unless you'd prefer to prolong the battle of course!
* ShownTheirWork: More traditional static stretches are done during an optional cooldown period, whereas more dynamic ones are used for a warm up. As per the Cool Elastic Principle, it's best to static stretch after a workout (the difference between bending a frozen steak, and one at room temperature), so good on them for that.
* {{Sidequest}}: Bar the first two, each world has a number of requests from citizens asking you to either [[FetchQuest gather some ingredients or deliver a particular Smoothie]], [[MassMonsterSlaughterSidequest rid an area of monsters]] or simply face a challenge at a Game Gym for prizes.
* TheSpartanWay: The Kingdom of Sporta [[MeaningfulName (unsurprising given its name)]] is dedicated to intense training on a daily basis and missing even a single day is considered blasphemous. Unfortunately, the presence of Dragaux renders the citizens scared and weak except for the commander (and since he gets you to do everything for him under the pretence of training, he's likely just as inadequate to the job of getting rid of monsters).
* SpiritualSuccessor: To ''VideoGame/WiiFit''.
* StatusBuff: Smoothies can boost the attack power of a type of Fit Skill, give you a guaranteed rush, and increase your defence for a limited number of turns. Some sets of equipment can also boost the strength of a certain Fit Skill type by 5%.
** The Protein Shaker monsters can also invoke by boosting the strength of one type of Fit Skill -- [[HeroicSacrifice usually the one they are weak to]] -- in exchange for reducing the strength of another type (or all the other types in the case of dark versions). This works when the other monsters in the battle are the colour of the weakened skills though hilariously enough, the Protein Shaker will sometimes cast this even if [[ArtificialStupidity they're the only monster left and are weak to the move they just boosted.]] Dark versions do not have this weakness though.
* TechDemoGame: This game does a good job of showing off how the Joy-Cons can be used for applications other than gaming, in this case, using them for exercise and using the Infra-red sensor to detect heart beat.
* TechTree: Skill Points can be spent to learn skills connected to each other on a skill tree. There are three levels of skill tree unlocked over the course of the game - 5x5, 7x7 and 9x9 grids.
* ThematicRoguesGallery: Dragaux's minions are based on sports and exercise equipment, including helmets, yoga mats, and dumbbells.
* TopHeavyGuy:
** Dragaux, whose arms and upper torso dominate his form, while his legs are barely visible. Do consider though that while he has smaller legs, they are not undeveloped like the usual subject of this trope; his leg muscles are still thick and defined and clearly works them out in his regimen.
** Armando, the arms specialist of the Four Masters, has unsurprisingly massive, muscular arms and a huge barrel chest. His legs make up perhaps a quarter of his body span.
* UglyGuyHotWife: The shopkeepers; Hubby is a plain-looking portly dude, while Honey is a gorgeous young woman.
* UrbanFantasy: An inversion, that being a fantasy world with some modern elements. It's set in a great wilderness with only small towns scattered here and there, nations like Sporta train warriors rather than soldiers, and the enemies of the game are an army of monsters. But also there are levels with mild factory aesthetics, the monsters take the appearance of modern exercise equipment (such as dumbbells or yoga mats), and the shopkeeper Hubby owns a blender to make smoothies with.
* UselessUsefulSpell: Healing routines. There really isn't much of a reason to ever use them outside of the gyms that require them – normal levels will almost never put you in a situation where you need to heal at all, and when you do, you can just drink a smoothie or two without losing your turn (unless you forgot to make some or are running low). The one time they ''might'' be of use is when the enemy shuts off your access to drinks – but when you die, it allows you to use the resurrecting smoothies despite this restriction, rendering even its situational use moot.
* VariableMix: The music in stages and battles changes its instrumentation depending on your current activity. There are no less than eight versions of each battle theme corresponding to the various exercises you'll do.
* VictoryPose: You perform one of these at the end of every level by squatting, and then raising your arms into the air.
* VillainsOutShopping: Whenever you catch up to Dragaux, he's always exercising in some way, from push-ups to yoga balancing.
* WalkOnWater: It's a skill of many of Sporta's citizens, although nobody can do it anymore when you first arrive because they're all out of practice. One resident describes it as simply running really fast, fast enough to pull one's feet out of the water before it sinks too far.
* WeaponsThatSuck: Pulling the Ring-Con apart causes Ring to suck in nearby objects.
* WeUsedToBeFriends: Ring and Dragaux used to be friends, with Ring helping Dragaux with his MuscleAngst, until the latter became corrupted by [[TheCorruption the dark influence]], forcing Ring to seal him away until the protagonist accidentally unseals it. [[WhatTheHellHero Dragaux even calls Ring out on it while in World 6.]]
* WhamEpisode: After beating Dragaux in World 20 [[spoiler: he devours the brainwashed Four Masters. Then in World 22 you come across all of their spirits in the Underworld and seem dead for good... but miraculously they all come BackFromTheDead after defeating Dragaux for the last time.]]
