''Rage of the Gladiator'' is a UsefulNotes/WiiWare game developed by Ghostfire Games, released on UsefulNotes/{{Wii}} on March 15th, 2010, on [[UsefulNotes/IOSGames iOS]] on November 21st, 2012, and on UsefulNotes/Nintendo3DS on September 19th, 2013. It tells the story of Gracius, a prince from the ancient city of Avalance, forced to fight as a gladiator in the arena for reasons initially unexplained. As the game progresses, the story is told through cutscenes in between fights.

It can pretty much be described as "''VideoGame/PunchOut'' meets ''TabletopGame/DungeonsAndDragons''.

!!This game provides examples of:
* AbhorrentAdmirer: The Sea Witch. She keeps flirting with you during the fight, while trying to kill you at the same time. This is explained in her bio as being a clash between her two sides; her human side seeks affection and companionship, while her reptilian side instinctively strikes out at anyone in self-defense.
* AchievementSystem: The 3DS version has achievements earned for repeatedly performing actions, defeating opponents, and otherwise doing well at the game.
* ArrogantKungFuGuy: Nagano and Lord Vensor the 3rd both consider you beneath them. Nagano eventually admits you're a worthy opponent, but Vensor just gets more ticked off as you won't die to his magical onslaught.
* BadassNormal: Some of the opponents include a snake charmer, a ninja (granted, ninja aren't usually considered "normal", but when you think that the game includes mythological monsters and demons) and an old Chinese guy. And they're all extremely tough.
* BoltOfDivineRetribution: Your first opponent, Tagon, asks his god of war Arkos for help after he goes down the first time. When Tagon doesn't get an immediate response, he shrugs off needing him, which earns him a lightning bolt to the head, and he immediately apologizes.
* BossRush: The whole game is basically this, like its inspiration.
* CallingYourAttacks:
-->'''Amit the Charmer:''' Cutlass Slash!/ Cutlass Jab!
-->'''Lord Vensor:''' Cross Slash!/ Fireball!
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: Tagon, arguably. He is the first boss, so you expect him to be a pushover, but he has a quick three-slash combo that can take unexpecting players completely by surprise. In Challenge Mode, he will make meteors rain from the sky, and players have to remember where the avoidable spots are.
-->'''Tagon:''' Now, taste the ''fire of Arkos''!
* DivineIntervention: When you knock down Tagon the first time, the war god Tagon worships, Arkos, turn his sword into a flaming one. And after that, gives his shield the power to shoot lightning. And when that isn't enough, he turns Tagon into a giant.
* DrunkenMaster: While Master Yee doesn't fight with the drunken fist, he does drink from a jug to refill his health bar between rounds.
* EvilIsHammy: Archdevil Malzor is one of a few, and has a deep, booming voice to match.
-->'''Malzor:''' ENOUGH! Time for you to surrender to your destiny... '''IN OBLIVION!'''
* GracefulLoser: Unlike your other opponents, Master Yee says it was an honor to fight you.
* HarderThanHard: "Challenge Mode", similar to the inspiration's Title Defense mode - bosses are tougher, have new attacks and are generally harder to beat.
* HybridMonster: Gargadan the chimera is a fusion of a lion, a snake and a dragon. The lion head seems to be the main head, since it's the one giving out orders.
-->'''Lion head:''' It's supper time, boys. Prepare for battle!
-->'''Snake head:''' Umm...thisss guy seemsss tough!
-->'''Dragon head:''' Ah! Someone I can burn.
* IAmLegion: Ixthid constantly refers to himself as "we", and communicates telepathically.
* IncomingHam: Lord Vensor the 3rd.
-->"BEHOLD! Lord Vensor will now grace you with his presence! Is this some kind of joke? YOU'RE NO MATCH... FOR MY MAGIC! [[EvilLaugh HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!]]"
** The first thing he does at the start of each round:
-->"I call forth... A METEOR STORM!"
* LimitBreak: The Combos, which can be performed (if you have enough energy) by hitting the opponent with your shield when they're stunned. Some of them are rather AwesomeButImpractical, requiring a full energy bar to use (those ones deal the most damage, but it takes so long to fill up the energy bar that by the time you can use the combo the enemy is most likely nearly dead anyway). You can get a skill that makes the energy bar fill up faster, though.
* LuckilyMyShieldWillProtectMe: You are equipped with one. And so is the first boss, Tagon.
* MakeMyMonsterGrow: During the third round, Tagon grows to colossal size with the help of his war god Arkos.
-->'''Tagon:''' Arkos! Please...help me! (gets struck by lightning multiple times, which causes him to grow)
* MeteorSummoningAttack: Lord Vensor begins every round by calling forth a meteor storm, which causes fireballs to rain down on the field at random and set one of the two lanes on fire, restricting the player's movement.
* {{Ninja}}: Nagano is this game's token ninja character. He is a student of Master Yee, who also trains you in the game's ForcedTutorial. [[spoiler:Master Yee later returns to avenge his fallen student.]]
* NotSoDifferentRemark: Master Yee as this opinion of you and Nagano, saying you are both "arrogant and undisciplined."
* NotUsingTheZWord: The Sea Witch and Gargadan are an obvious gorgon and chimera respectively, yet they are never referred to by that specific name in the game (The Sea Witch is called a "cruel creation of the gods" and Gargadan is described as "an experiment gone horribly wrong"). Inverted with Ixthid, who is referred to as a Beholder in his (its?) bio.
* OurMinotaursAreDifferent: Horlan the Crusher, the game's token Minotaur. According to his bio, he fed on ''lions and elks'', and when 40 men tried to capture him, they only succeeded after losing ''25 men''.
* PuzzleBoss: You WILL die many times when facing the TrueFinalBoss before you figure out that he actually [[spoiler: uses the same sequence of attacks over and over]].
* SchmuckBait: When you fight [[spoiler:Master Yee for the second time]], he will periodically beckon and say "Come, attack me!" Attacking him at that time will cause him to block and very quickly whack you with his staff.
* SoreLoser: [[spoiler: After you unlock hard mode, and defeat Lord Vensor the 3rd again... he calls forth the lord of dragons just to spite you in spite of the fact it'll likely not just eat you, but the audience as well.]]
* SquishyWizard: Inverted with the FinalBoss [[spoiler:(except in Challenge Mode)]], Lord Vensor the 3rd. While he is a human magician, he's just as physically tough as the rest of the bosses, if not more so.
* ThisCannotBe:
** [[spoiler:Ixthid exclaims "Impossible!" as its final gasp.]]
** Lord Vensor the 3rd says this word for word in the end.
* TrueFinalBoss: [[spoiler:Creatos]], lord of the dragons, who is unlocked after completing Challenge Mode.
* UnderestimatingBadassery
** Nearly all of your opponent who are capable of speech do this to you in some way. Only the snake head of the chimera seems to realize you're bad news, but he's out-voted.
** Master Yee, even as he is honor bound to try and kill you, treats this as a learning experience for you. Ironically, the boss description of Master Yee itself does this, going on about old and frail he is. He is anything but.
* UnintentionallyUnwinnable: It is impossible to get OneHundredPercentCompletion on the mobile version because the final round of [[spoiler:your match against Creatos, your last opponent]], will [[TheBattleDidntCount restart]] if you finish him with a normal combo, which means that you can only win if you [[spoiler:use a special combo]]. Since the second challenge match requires you to defeat him without [[spoiler:special combos]] [[TimedMission within a time limit]] on just a single health bar, there is no way you can win it and therefore, you cannot earn all 90 stars. Any attempt to earn that last star will always end in your defeat, thanks to this bug.
* WakeUpCallBoss: Tagon - though he's the first boss, he's still by no means a pushover, and the fight against him is essentially the game holding up a sign saying "This game will not be easy. Be warned."
* WorthyOpponent: After knocking him down twice, Nagano will no longer think you're as "pathetic" as he initially thought.
-->'''Nagano:''' Indeed, you are an honorable opponent...I will take pleasure in your defeat!
