In the land of Dragonzola, there are those who act as mediators between humanity and nature, called Dragon Callers. With the ability to tame powerful monsters and manipulate the elements though Drops, they are called at times of great crisis.
One of the greatest Dragon Callers, King, one day vanished without reason. Years later, his child travels to the land of Dragonzola to follow his footsteps to become a Dragon Caller.

''Puzzle & Dragons X'' (Pronounced as Cross) is a 3DS game release in Japan in July 2016. It's a spinoff [[VideoGame/PuzzleAndDragons of the wildly popular match three RPG Mobile game.]] You play as the child of King, ether a boy (Default name Ace) or Girl (Default name Ana) as they become a Dragon Caller while trying to figure out the mystery of their father's disappearance and receiving the Tamadra Tamazo.
One big difference between it and the main mobile game is the Cross-on system. Your character is always the Leader, and you can get different Soul Armors to gain different Leader skills and forms.

It was also adapted into an anime for the Summer 2016 season under the same name by Creator/StudioPierrot, following Ace.

!!''Puzzle & Dragons X'' provides examples of:
[[foldercontrol]]

[[folder:The Game]]
* AnimeHair: Ace has reasonable reddish brown hair....with a cross shaped white yellow in the middle. While Ana.... has four pigtails are shaped to resemble a X.
* BaitAndSwitchCredits: The second version of the second opening implies that the SDF becomes an enemy of the dragon callers, but the main threat is actually the [[spoiler:anti-human organization called Dominion.]]
* BigEater: Tamazo will eat pretty much anything, [[TrademarkFavoriteFood especially eggs]].
* {{Crossover}}: With the Mobile game, getting two descended dungeons for Ace and Ana respecfully as well as six Super Ultimate Evolutions for their most famous Soul armors in the game. Tamazo also gets cards featuring him in all three of Odin's forms, Tsukiyomi and [[VideoGame/BatmanArkhamSeries Batman]].
* DangerousForbiddenTechnique: Soul Brave. It grants tremendous power, however it puts the Dragon caller's life at risk and use of it overtime weakens it's user, eventally even killing them [[spoiler: just like what happened with Star John's father.]] This lead to the previous Light Ancient to banning it, [[spoiler: until Jest removes the ban during the Battle Cup.]]
* HalfHumanHybrid: Sonia. No, she isn't a Draconoid or a Dragonbound, she's actually from an union of a human and a dragon.
* IconicOutfit: Ace in his Fire/Light Horus Soul Armor.
%%* LimitBreak: Soul Brave, and by extension, Cross Drops to activate it's Limit Break.
%%* MissingDad: Ace/Ana's father, King.
%%* TheRival: Lance. This extends right down to the primary colors: Ace and Ana and usually Fire and Light focus, while Lance is Water and Dark.
* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: A Downplayed example. Compared to the main game, Carbuncles in X are more animistic and have crystals their heads resembling crowns, Chimeras are more realistic tigers with snakes as tails. The Slimes' second and final form are Mega and Giga instead of Big and King, respectively, but have the same Active skill.
** Trolls are this to Ogres, right down to having [[LastChanceHitPoint a Resolve Leader Skill]], duel attribute final forms and are the MightyGlacier {{Mooks}}, except they have the Norse God series Attribute attack boost Active skill instead of double orb change/Attribute damage.
** The Machine series is this for the Mythical Beast series, being the orb enhancers.
* TransformationTrinket: D-Gear, which functions as both a summoning device for a Dragon Caller's monsters as well as used to insert Soul Armor tokens in to Cross-on their Soul Armor.
* VerbalTic: Tamazo's "tama" and Devi's "devi".
[[/folder]]
[[folder:The Anime]]
* AntiMagicalFaction: The officials in Vienna City are very distrusting of Dragon Callers.
* ArrogantKungFuGuy: Sturgeon/[[SpellMyNameWithAnS Star John]].
%%* BadassAdorable: Any character under 20 can be cute and tough. %%Who exactly is cute and tough?
* BadBoss: Kroell controls his monsters with fear and [[WhipOfDominance whips them to prove that point]].
%%* BigEater: Tamazo, to the point of driving protagonist and bystander alike crazy.
%%* DeathFromAbove: God Burning Attack.
%%* EverythingsBetterWithRainbows: Drops and Cross Drops.
* EvolvingCredits:
** Newer versions of the opening features several notable changes in the TeamPowerWalk. The Dragon Callers' faces are starting to look less obscured, and later versions added Charo, Garnet, Sonia, and Tiger to the TeamPowerWalk.
** Newer versions of the second opening imply a DarkerAndEdgier tone.
* FaceHeelTurn: A group of Dragonoids band together to dominate the monsters and wretch Dragoza back to the Dragonoids.
* FantasticRacism: Some Dragonoids, notably Klein and Jest, look down on humans. [[spoiler:It's gotten to the point where they form a group called Dominion with the sole purpose of driving humans out of Dragoza.]]
* FightingYourFriend: The Battle Cup features Ace fighting Tiger and later Charo.
* HairContrastDuo: Ace's hairstyle shows his heroic and generous side, while Lance's hairstyle shows off his moody, cynical, but very heroic and wise side. [[https://pbs.twimg.com/media/C7P8afaXgAIGQG8.jpg Both boys have their respective roles]].
* HeroicRematch: Ace's fight against [[spoiler:Starjohn]]. He faces against him using a new Soul Armour, something [[spoiler:Starjohn]] himself commented [[{{Irony}} on in the past.]]
* HotSpringsEpisode: Ace and crew pass through the town of Geyser for one episode. As it turns out, the springs are powered by a FierySalamander monster.
%%* {{Jerkass}}: Sturgeon. Appropriately, his main monster is Zeus.
* LightFeminineAndDarkFeminine: Heliot, the Dragon Caller of Light and Morgan, the Dragon Caller of Dark are [[https://pbs.twimg.com/media/C-GdBddUAAAisRe.jpg young women with different ways]]. Appropriately, their Soul Armors are Light Metatron and Dark Metatron, repesctfully.
%%* LighterAndSofter: The anime and the game.
* {{Magitek}}: The SDF is developing weapons that harness drops to fight off monsters.
* MiniatureSeniorCitizens: Vatn, Ancient of Water. He's barely knee-height to the other characters and seems to be composed mostly of beard. Averted with all of the other elderly characters thus far.
* OurElvesAreDifferent: Dragonoids are longer-lived and are more closely bonded with monsters than humans. They even have pointed ears and many of them look down on humans.
%%* RecapEpisode: Episode 21.
%%* RedOniBlueOni: Ace and Lance have their [[https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Cmif1qrW8AAzj1q.jpg:small main strong roles]] throughout the anime. %%An outside link to an image is not context. You need to describe their dynamic.
%%* SoreLoser: A common trait among Dragonoids in the TournamentArc. Bonus points if it's to a human Dragon Caller.
* ShownTheirWork: During the Battle Cup, most of the teams the Dragon Callers have are balanced to take advantage of their Soul Armor Leader skill and overall boost, not unlike players teams. Garnet's teams is all healers (And her Angelion is in it's final form, making it a Healer as well) and has a team found in most early stages in the mobile game, while Tiger and Kieln's teams focus on attack based with Trolls to enhance their attribute attack and Machines to Enchance their orbs.
%%* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: Heliot and Morgan take their role [[https://pbs.twimg.com/media/C70fbvLVsAA7H8I.jpg respectively]] %%How do they take their role? A link is completely useless as context, even if it worked. See Administrivia/WeblinksAreNotExamples.
%%** Garnet and Haru respectively are another example.
* TookALevelInBadass: EVERYONE by the time of the Battle Cup has full teams and soul armor.
* TreeTopTown: Libria, the city of wood, is built over the treetops on boardwalks with the largest buildings being built into the tallest trees and connected by stairs.
* UnevenHybrid: [[spoiler:Ace]] is 1/4 Dragonoid.
* WholeEpisodeFlashback: Episode 18 shows how Lance first met Devi.
* WildMagic: Drops can react en mass independently of a Dragon Caller's control, but it's usually a sign of an impact or other incoming nastiness. There can also be benign examples, such as the forest around Libria mourning for the recently-deceased Ancient of Wood and putting on a light show as a result.
%%* WorthyOpponent: Valkyrie to Garnet. [[spoiler: Who becomes her Soul Armor.]]
