!This mod provides examples of:
* AllThereInTheManual:
** The name of the conspiracy theorist appears to be Harold, but you'd only know this through looking at his spritesheet in the assets folder. Likewise, you wouldn't know the FBI Agent's names unless you looked in the official discord server for the mod.
** Each song has a blurb of text either describing it, your opponent, or making a reference. You'll only get to see them in Freeplay, though.
* AnalProbing: Referenced by the first week song, "Probed".
* BackFromTheDead: [[spoiler:Week 3 is all about the resurrected Xigmund after his seemingly-fatal red braining in "Annihilation-LOL".]]
* BaitAndSwitch: Harris starts his song singing in a cool, smooth voice...before clearing his throat and singing the rest of the song using his goofy dialogue sound effect.
* BaitAndSwitchBoss: The ending gag of [[spoiler:"Annihilation-LOL", as Xigmund red-brains himself before Boyfriend can even get his turn.]] The Alt week's version, [[spoiler:"Aneurysmia", does let Boyfriend get in turns before Rudemund's death, but it's entirely composed of simple, slow hold notes.]]
* BewareTheSillyOnes: The Xigman faced in Week 5 is wildly OffModel compared to the other opponents and has hilarious poses, but its songs can be pretty difficult [[spoiler:and one mauls a guard and perpetuates a mass breakout.]]
* TheCameo:
** [[spoiler:The titular ''VideoGame/AlienHominid'' shows up for the final song of the second week. Fittingly, this is also the week where you face the FBI Agents and Robot from the same game.]]
** On the pinboard in Week 4 are photos of [[WebAnimation/{{Tankmen}} Tankman]] and [[WebAnimation/SpookyMonth Skid and Pump]], hidden behind Girlfriend.
* ConspiracyTheorist: The opponent for the fourth week, Harold, is a crackpot theorist with various drawings, pictures and documents of aliens, particularly Xigmund, scattered about the room he's fought in. In the first and part of the third song he's holding a signal scanner, and is even wearing a tinfoil hat.
* DamageOverTime: "Confidential" has the health bar drain with every note Agent Cuddles sings. Unlike most other mods with this mechanic, it stops once the bar is at 50%.
* EarlyBirdCameo:
** During "Confidential", you can see the other two FBI Agents in the background before you face them later in the week.
** One of the whiteboard doodles in Week 4's background is of an OffModel Xigmund with dilating pupils. Cue the 3.0 update, and one of the new opponents is Xigman, who looks exactly like the sketch.
* EasyModeMockery: [[spoiler:If you try to play a difficulty below hard on "Annihilation", you get blueballed the second your turn comes up, calling you a coward and telling you to raise the difficulty to hard.]]
* FamilyUnfriendlyDeath: [[spoiler:Rudemund's brain explodes at the end of "Aneurysmia", leaving a sizable hole in his head.]]
* FunnyBackgroundEvent:
** During Week 2's songs, each of the agents lurk in the background whenever they aren't singing. [[spoiler:After "Crack", the Alien Hominid lands on the speakers from out of nowhere, prompting an EyeTake from every agent on screen. When the next song loads, all of them have fled.]]
** [[spoiler:During the final song of Week 2, "Enforcement", the Alien Hominid is stood next to Girlfriend and bopping their head to the beat as well. It even stops when you miss a note.]]
** The skeletons in "Pelvic" dance during the song. [[spoiler:During "Spinal Tap", they instead look on in horror.]]
** [[spoiler:During "Breakout", multiple Xigmen are running around with goofy expressions on their faces and occasionally being vaporised into green goo. There's also the Xigman with the lol face acting as Girlfriend’s replacement, the scrolling "HI's" and the giant Xigman behind them...]]
** [[spoiler:The Girlfriend statue with Harris' face in "Egomania" is hilarious to look at.]]
* GimmickLevel:
** Barring "Reinforcement", each song in Week 2 has a unique gimmick to it:
*** "Confidential" has the health bar decrease with every note the opponent sings, though it only goes to 50%.
*** "Aegis" starts the bar at 100%, but hit notes don't heal, giving a limited amount of misses before the player is forced to retry.
*** "Crack" features multiple {{Interface Screw}}s that happen throughout the level, such as the HUD being dragged down or static filling the screen.
** During Week 4, Harold will take out a cup of coffee and drink from it, increasing the song's speed for a period of time.
** In the bonus song "Egomania", [[spoiler:Harris will talk all through the song, disabling the note inputs until the player gets through his text boxes]].
* GuestFighter:
** The FBI Agents [[spoiler:and Robot]] in Week 2 all hail from ''VideoGame/AlienHominid''.
** The bonus song "Spacecataz" stars Ignignokt and Err from ''WesternAnimation/AquaTeenHungerForce''.
* InstantSoprano: [[spoiler:One of the various things in Harris' textboxes is him asking Boyfriend if the reason why his voice is so high pitched is because Girlfriend stomps on his balls before he sings.]]
* InterfaceScrew:
** During "Crack", Agent Cuddles will cover the screen in static to obscure the player's vision, move the HUD around, and even ''lower the in-game volume'', requiring the player to turn it back up.
** [[spoiler:"Egomania"'s dialogue boxes cover up the bottom of the screen. Harris will force you to press different keys to clear them, and they later get layered at the top of the screen, blocking the arrows from sight.]]
* {{Martians}}: The titular martian is Xigmund, resembling the classic tall and lanky green-skinned space man. There's also his alternate counterpart Rudemund, and the erratic Xigmen.
* MajorInjuryUnderreaction: When [[spoiler:Rudemund's brain explodes]], the look on his face is best described as "Oh dear, that wasn't supposed to happen".
* MediumAwareness: Shortly into "Egomania", [[spoiler:Harris will realize the player is mashing through his text boxes and changes which key progresses them in an attempt to stop them]].
* TheMenInBlack: You face not one, but three of FBI agents as the opponents for Week 2, with even the name of the week being called "Men in Black". The first is in the standard black suit and sunglasses, the second is dressed like a SWAT unit, and the third is a hacking expert in a purple robe.
* MindOverMatter: Xigmund has PsychicPowers and uses them to hold his mic and later float in mid-air during the later songs of Week 1. His counterpart Rudemund uses them as well, even forming a mic out of his powers for "Aneurysmia".
* MotorMouth: [[spoiler:Compared to everyone else in the mod, Harris is a complete chatterbox, holding most of his conversation with Boyfriend and even rambling on during the song.]]
* MustHaveCaffeine: Harold constantly twitches during Week 4, and from "Jitter" onwards, he's holding a cup of coffee and drinking from it.
* MythologyGag: The bonus song "Spacecataz" heavily takes its vibe and feel from the opening theme from ''Aqua Teen Hunger Force'''s - Ignignokt and Err's show of origin - first few seasons, complete with a sample of the "My name is-!" lyric. The song's blurb in the freeplay menu is also taken from a line said by Err in "Mayhem of the Mooninites".
* NinjaPirateZombieRobot: The third week's opponent, [[spoiler:Xigbones, is a singing skeletal martian]].
* LittleGreenMen: Xigmund and his counterpart zigzag the trope, as while they are green they are also tall. The Xigmen is even taller. Ignignokt and Err are minuscule in comparison to them, but the purple Err is the smaller of the two, being a third of the green Ignignokt's size.
* NotSoStoic: While Agent Cupcake appears to be emotionless during his battle, when you're beating him he starts to waver in notice of your performance.
* OhCrap: If you do well enough in "Confidential", Agent Cupcake will lose his cool and begin to panic during his turns. [[spoiler: All of the agents get a collective one when the Alien Hominid shows up.]]
* RedOniBlueOni: The Mooninites, just like in [[WesternAnimation/AquaTeenHungerForce their origin show]], display this dynamic within "Spacecataz", as Err's parts are faster and higher in note density while Ignignokt almost entirely uses slower hold notes.
* SecretLevel: In the bonus songs section, "Egomania" is selectable but almost entirely transparent, intentionally hidden and very easy to miss.
* ShowsDamage: Getting the health bar past where [[ExpressiveHealthBar the icons change]] in "Confidential" causes Agent Cupcake to noticeably panic until the bar is back down again.
* SilenceIsGolden:
** One of the big things setting this mod apart from the others is its lack of Week 6-esque textboxes. While it does have cutscenes, these aren't voiced either (such as, say, the ones in Week 7), and songs go right from one to the next. Despite this, a clear narrative can be formed if one pays attention to both the characters themselves and the background as the Weeks progress.
** [[spoiler:Subverted in the secret song "Egomania", where the dialogue boxes not only make an appearance, but also serve as a ''InterfaceScrew gameplay mechanic!'']]
* TheStoic: The FBI Agents never really emote, with the exception of Agent Cupcake.
* StringTheory: A large pinboard is behind Girlfriend in Week 4, covered in photographs - a photo of Boyfriend is at the center, with red string connecting him to the rest of the photos.
* {{Superboss}}: [[spoiler:"Annihilation", minus the LOL, as you won't be laughing out loud when you try to beat it.]] [[EasyModeMockery You're not even allowed to play it on a difficulty below hard: try it and you immediately fail, helpfully being told to raise the difficulty]].
* SuperPowerMeltdown: [[spoiler:Xigmund attempts to use his full power against Boyfriend in "Annihilation LOL"; it backfires on him because he's going so fast he can't hit the notes properly, leading him to miss and ''[[EpicFail get his own version of Blueballs]]''. Same goes for Rudemund in "Aneurysmia", albeit instead of missing his notes he exerts himself so much his brain explodes. You do get a legitimate version of Xigmund's song in freeplay known as just "Annihilation", but it's telling when its scroll speed is 3.5 rather then LOL's 5.]]
* SuspiciousVideoGameGenerosity: "Aegis", unlike the rest of the songs in the mod, begins with the health bar at 100% rather than 50%... and that's because the player does not gain health from hitting notes, meaning there's a limited amount of times one can miss.
* TakeThat:
** [[spoiler: To bad charting and over-the-top scroll speed with "Annihilation LOL", being bad enough that even Xigmund can't keep up. Done again with "Aneurysmia", with Rudemund going so fast part of his head explodes.]]
** "Egomania" is a jab at mods with copious amounts of dialogue in addition to [[TakeThatAudience those who complained about this mod having no dialogue]]: the opponent ''never shuts the hell up'', to the point it's an actual hindrance to the player.
* TurnsRed:
** Parodied. [[spoiler:Xigmund unleashes the full extent of his psychokinetic powers right after "Brainfuck", but [[SuperPowerMeltdown can't handle it]] and redbrains himself during "Annihilation-LOL". Same goes for his counterpart Rudemund, who instead has his brain explode and take a chunk of his head with it. There ''is'' a legitimate version of Xigmund's song called "Annihilation", minus LOL, as a {{Superboss}}, playing the trope straight.]]
** [[spoiler:Harris quite literally turns red when he thinks Boyfriend said something about his hair. This then follows a second, faster phase to the song where Harris actively uses the textboxes to stop the player from hitting the notes.]]
