5Loosely based on the [[Film/HomeAlone2LostInNewYork 1992 film]], the game is all about Kevin [=McAllister=] getting seperated from his family at the airport, and ending up in New York all by his lonesome. Kevin must now brave the tough challenges of New York, as well as fend off the Wet Bandits, Harry And Marv, who are also on the loose and want revenge.

7You naturally play as Kevin as he runs and jumps around New York, fighting off enemies and gathering items. In each stage, he starts off with a standard throwable weapon that can be upgraded by grabbing various Power ups to put said weapons together. These weapons are naturally more powerful and more effective at defeating enemies and especially the Wet Bandits, who will show up in each stage to pester Kevin.

13* AdaptedOut: This version doesn't even bother with the hotel. The game starts at Laguardia Airport and goes on from there to Duncan's Toy Chest and then the old house.
14* AdaptationalEarlyAppearance: In the original movie, Harry and Marv don't encounter Kevin until the halfway point. Here, Harry and Marv encounter Kevin much earlier as they try to snatch him at [=LaGuardia=] Airport.
15* AdaptationInducedPlotHole: In the movie, Kevin wants to get back at Harry and Marv to stop them stealing the children's money from Mr. Duncan's toy store. The game removes Mr. Duncan and Kevin's interaction.
16* TheBigRottenApple: The overall setting. Kevin is in New York, and ''everyone'' wants him dead.
17* BombardierMook: Toy Airplanes attack Kevin in Duncan's Toy Chest by dropping bombs on him.

He also comes across a balloon salesman and has no choice but to shoot him so that he can steal his balloons and [[{{Balloonacy}} use them to fly up to the checkpoint]].
24* DeathThrows: Happens when Kevin rides an upward moving platform to the ceiling in the second level or if he falls into the construction site in the fifth.
25* DownTheDrain: The Seventh level takes Kevin through the pipelines and sewers of the old house, where lots of dragonflies and giant frogs attack him.

27* EdibleAmmunition: One of the weapons that Kevin can use once he finds all of its pieces is the Ice Cream Bazooka, which fires ice cream cones.

31* FrigidWaterIsHarmless: Averted. In the street levels, there are pipes that drop a flow of water. Water and cold weather don't mix, and thus Kevin takes major damage from touching the water.
32* TheGoomba: Businessmen carrying briefcases. They move slowly and are easy to defeat, but once you knock them out, you have to be careful of the briefcase flying outwards and sliding across the floor, which hurts you. Their briefcases won't hurt you if you attack them from behind.
33* GratuitousNinja: Ninjas appear as enemies in Stages 5 and 8. The reason for them to be there, and why they are attacking Kevin in New York to begin is not given. They're just there. They jump around and like to attack in packs.
34* HoistByHisOwnPetard: A rare example that backfires on the hero. In the opening cutscene before Level 4, Kevin activates a flying boxing glove toy that knocks out Harry and Marv. This same contraption now spends the rest of the level harassing the player, and will attack Kevin if it gets in range. It can be temporarily stunned, but be right back up to pester the player again.
35* HyperactiveMetabolism: Water bottles, milk cartons, lunch boxes, and pizza boxes restore lost health.
36* IdenticalStranger: The apron-wearing mustachioed balloon salesman from the first level reappears ''four times'' in the third: twice holding a broom which he uses to smack Kevin and twice more offering PowerUpFood.
37* ImplacableMan: Absolutely ''nothing'' stops Harry and/or Marv whenever they show up in a level and they will chase you relentlessly. They only way they can be stopped is by actually beating them. Which without a upgraded weapon is very tough to do.
38* InconvenientlyPlacedConveyorBelt: Luggage area has conveyor belts that often lead nowhere.
39 * ItsAWonderfulFailure: The GameOver screen has the Wet Bandits leaving Kevin all tied up in a bag and waving him off on a subway train to who-knows-where.

42* LightningBruiser: Harry and Marv are only BARELY slower than you, and if they hit you, they do a lot of damage AND downgrade your weapon if you were able to pick up the parts for a new one previously. Fortunately, they're easy to stun, otherwise the game would be much, much harder.
43* LiterallyShatteredLives: If Kevin manages to defeat Harry and Marv in the eighth level, they freeze and shatter. Unless Kevin loses a life and has to start the stage over, they don't show up again until the end, when Kevin makes it to the top of the big tree in central park, where the Pigeon Lady's pigeons attack them and then carry them away during the closing credits.
44* OneUp: Collecting turtle doves gives Kevin an extra life.
45* OverreactingAirportSecurity: The security guards in the first level chase after Kevin when he gets past the gate. Their answer to this breach in security? Try to kill Kevin (via CollisionDamage) of course.

47* PoliceAreUseless: The security guards do nothing to stop Harry in the airport. If anything, they will try to stop ''you'' first.
48* PowerUpFood: Water bottles, milk and lunchpails restore parts of Kevin's health. Pizza fully restores it.
49* RecurringBoss: With the exception of the pipe maze stage, Harry and Marv are present on every stage (though Marv's also missing from the first stage as well). You don't necessarily have to ''defeat'' them but their persistence once they appear means you're typically not in a position to avoid battle without taking heavy damage in the process.
50* RecycledSoundtrack: The BGM that plays during the daytime city setting is reused for Uncle Rob's house.
51* SlippySlideyIceWorld: The entire game takes place during wintertime, but the final level (Central Park) is where the ice physics make themselves more prevalent. Kevin has to rescue the Pigeon Lady in this level. Harry and Marv are at their absolute strongest, moving ''much'' faster than their previous encounters on top of being stunned less. You absolutely ''need'' the power up weapons in this stage.
52* SmashingHallwayTrapsOfDoom: Luggage zone has crushers that can harm Kevin.
53* SpringsSpringsEverywhere Toy Megastore has trampolines that launch Kevin high up in the air.
54* StuckAtTheAirportPlot: Laguardia Airport (Stage 1) isn't [[GreenHillZone a green hill]], but still fairly basic. It's a straightforward and linear level with simple enemies and plenty of space for players to get used to Kevin's controls.
55* ToyTime: The Toy Megastore Duncan's Toy Chest is the fourth stage. Unsurprisingly, there are loose active toys that can hurt you.
56* VideoGameSliding: Kevin can slide, acting as a method to dodge enemies and obstacles.
57* WaterGeyserVolley: In one of the cutscenes, Kevin stands on a manhole cover. Water sprouts out of the manhole just at the right time for him to dodge Harry and Marv. The following level has manhole covers flying upwards via water as a game mechanic.
