* BetterOnDVD: The Manga volumes have redrawn scenes from the original serialization that make the characters look more consistent.
* ColbertBump: The Anime adaptation was this for the Manga, especially for western fans that were unaware of its existence before the adaptation was announced.
* {{Defictionalization}}: The Lunarian puppy plushies Red Beryl makes for Diamond and the other gems are real toys that can actually be purchased, at least on eBay.
* DeletedScene: The end of Chapter 92 shows Phos dragging themselves to Sensei's chambers, but the scene changes from the magazine release to Volume 12's. In the former, Phos [[spoiler:sees their original self happily running into the distance, and calls themself "cute" but doesn't quite recognize who they are]]; while in the latter [[spoiler:Phos sees one of the dandelions from the beginning chapter and crushes it with their hands to steel themselves for their confrontation with Sensei]].
* DuelingWorks: Tends to be seen as this with ''WesternAnimation/StevenUniverse'', especially once the anime adaptation started. This is a bit strange, since they have few similarities, other than the basic concept of humanoid beings made of gemstones (''Lustrous'' is a {{seinen}} [[AllCGICartoon CGI]] manga/anime loaded with MindScrew and Buddhist imagery, ''Steven'' is a traditionally-animated American adventure story with a KidHero and musical numbers).
* FandomLifeCycle: While initially hugely popular in the west when the Anime adaptation came out, the series eventually went through all the stages of this over the years due to lack of a second season for the Anime adaptation when it would have mattered (with there still not being one announced years later). Most fans opted to turn to the Manga as they waited, but instead were turned off over time due to the dreaded [[ArcFatigue Moon arc]] that dragged on for several long chapters and halted story progression, [[{{Woobie}} Phos’ perpetual suffering]] and the fact that the manga introducing a ship that [[{{Squick}} squicked]] out readers. Nowadays, the western fandom has a small cult following that keeps up with the Manga as it’s implied to near its end.
* InternationalCoproduction: Not the series, but the Latin American Spanish dub, as it was done with voice actors from both Argentina and Chile, both neighboring countries, and just like with the ''Literature/NoGameNoLife Zero'' movie dub, this is one of the few dubbing co-productions which doesn't feature either Mexicans or Hispanic voice actors from the U.S. This is also Creator/SentaiFilmworks' first non-English dub.
* SleeperHit: While the Manga initially had a small following, it was the Anime adaptation that really boosted it into the mainstream and attracted attention to the series from all parts of the world.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: A promotional video for the release of the first volume of the manga was entirely in 2D animation, giving a glimpse of how the series may have looked like it wasn't animated in 3D.
