* ChildrenVoicingChildren: In the original English Dub, Yuffie, who was a child at the time, was voiced by Creator/SuzieYeung, who was a teenager at the time, making this a {{Downplayed|Trope}} example. In the ''Reunion'' re-release, after being [[TheOtherDarrin replaced]], she is voiced by Kino Sakai in its original Japanese language and Brandilyn Cheah in the English Dub, both children, making this a straighter example.
* DenialOfDigitalDistribution: This is one of the few of Creator/SquareEnix's games for the Platform/PlayStationPortable that wasn't made available digitally following its physical release. No one knows why for sure, but fandom speculation points to one of the game's characters actually using the likeness of Japanese singer Creator/{{Gackt}} and suggested that whatever contract he and Square Enix made during the game's production doesn't allow for a digital release. Whatever the reason, it isn't applicable to the 2022 ''Reunion'' [[VideoGameRemake remake]][=/=][[UpdatedRerelease remaster]], which is available on the digital storefront Platform/{{Steam}}, and those of all the consoles it's releasing on.
* DevelopmentGag: Angeal's design is based on an early concept for Cloud in the original game.
* KillerApp: For the PSP. It became one of the highest-selling PSP titles and a major reason for ''Final Fantasy VII'' fans to want a PSP.
* MarthDebutedInSmashBros: Cissnei first appeared in ''Before Crisis'' as a playable character, but thanks to that game's obscurity, she's much more widely known for this game. She wasn't named aside from "Shuriken (Female)" due to being named by the player. Cissnei not being her real name is a shout out to this.
* TheOtherDarrin:
** In the original English version, Creator/AndreaBowen replaces Creator/MenaSuvari as Aerith after Suvari's stint as the character in ''[[Anime/FinalFantasyVIIAdventChildren Advent Children]]'' and ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsII''. Suvari herself has replaced Aerith's original VA Music/MandyMoore from ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsI''
** ''Reunion'' drops the original English voice cast for the voice actors from ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyVIIRemake''. In addition to returning cast members:
*** Genesis is voiced by Shaun Conde instead of Oliver Quinn.
*** Bill Millsap replaces Josh Gilman as Angeal.
*** Creator/KayliMills voices Cissnei instead of Creator/CarrieSavage.
*** Lazard is voiced by Francis Aulsey instead of Stefan Marks.
*** Creator/JasonMarnocha replaces Sterling Young as Hollander.
* RecastAsARegular: Creator/AndreaBowen, who voiced the Moogle Girl in ''[[Anime/FinalFantasyVIIAdventChildren Advent Children]]'', was upgraded to Aerith's regular voice actress in the original version of the game and has voiced the character in various ''Franchise/FinalFantasy'' projects until ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyVIIRemake''.
* TimeShiftedActor: Neither Creator/YumiKakazu nor Creator/SuzieYeung reprise their roles for Yuffie in ''Crisis Core Reunion'', likely because Yuffie's practically a child in its time period. Instead, she's voiced by Kino Sakai in Japanese and Brandilyn Cheah in English.
* TrollingCreator: Creator/SquareEnix Japan sent specially boxed copies of ''Reunion'' to various popular Website/{{Twitch}} streamers and [[LetsPlay Let's Players]] (such as [[LetsPlay/YoVideogames Maximilian Dood]]), and among the contents - a bomber jacket plus the game - was a small box that said "[[https://youtu.be/sHmXiK7YMZw?t=2076 Do Not Open Until End Credits Roll]]." Inside that small box was a handkerchief embroidered with one of Angeal's lines, "Embrace your dreams." Given the game's DoomedByCanon ending, Square knew tears would be shed.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: The game was originally conceived to focus on Cloud and Zack's friendship, at greater depth and after their escape from Nibelheim, but each time they tried, they scrapped it for various reasons:
** The hardware limitations of the Platform/PlayStationPortable forced developers to cut nearly all of it out and focus on Zack's role as a warrior instead.
** When they tried to implement it again, much later after their first attempt, deadlines prevented them from doing that.
