Trivia / Crisis Core

  • Denial of Digital Distribution: This is one of the few of Square Enix's games for the PlayStation Portable that wasn't made available digitally following its physical release. No one knows why for sure, but fandom speculation points to one of the game's characters actually using the likeness of Japanese singer GACKT and suggested that whatever contract he and Square Enix made during the game's production doesn't allow for a digital release. Whatever the reason, it isn't applicable to the 2022 Reunion remake/remaster, which is available on the digital storefront Steam, and those of all the consoles it's releasing on.
  • Development Gag: Angeal's design is based on an early concept for Cloud in the original game.
  • Killer App: For the PSP. It became one of the highest-selling PSP titles and a major reason for Final Fantasy VII fans to want a PSP.
  • Marth Debuted in "Smash Bros.": Cissnei first appeared in Before Crisis as a playable character, but thanks to that game's obscurity, she's much more widely known for this game. She wasn't named aside from "Shuriken (Female)" due to being named by the player. Cissnei not being her real name is a shout out to this.
  • The Other Darrin:
  • Recast as a Regular: Andrea Bowen, who voiced the Moogle Girl in Advent Children, was upgraded to Aerith's regular voice actress in the original version of the game and has voiced the character in various Final Fantasy projects until Final Fantasy VII Remake.
  • Time-Shifted Actor: Neither Yumi Kakazu nor Suzie Yeung reprise their roles for Yuffie in Crisis Core Reunion, likely because Yuffie's practically a child in its time period. Instead, she's voiced by Kino Sakai in Japanese and Brandilyn Cheah in English.
  • Trolling Creator: Square Enix Japan sent specially boxed copies of Reunion to various popular Twitch streamers and Let's Players (such as Maximilian Dood), and among the contents - a bomber jacket plus the game - was a small box that said "Do Not Open Until End Credits Roll." Inside that small box was a handkerchief embroidered with one of Angeal's lines, "Embrace your dreams." Given the game's Doomed by Canon ending, Square knew tears would be shed.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The game as it was originally conceived would have explored Zack and Cloud's friendship at greater depth and their escape after the Nibelheim incident, but hardware limitations forced developers to cut nearly all of it out and focus on Zack's role as a warrior instead.
    • Developers much later went back again to try expand on Zack and Cloud's friendship but deadlines stopped them from doing that.
