* Rodney being insulted by his father's boss Mr. Gunk after Wonderbot destroys the kitchen. All Rodney was trying to do was help.
-->'''Mr. Gunk''': Inventor?! Ha! You're the hand-me-down son of a dishwasher and that's all you'll ''ever'' be! Someone scrape this gunk off me and serve it to the customers.
* Rodney's understandable worry when he learns that his father is sick back home. Aunt Fanny figures he'd want to go back to Rivet Town, but he says that wouldn't matter because they're out of spare parts. This becomes his primary motivation to seek out Bigweld.
** The sombre nature of the scene especially settles in when you consider that Fender, of all characters, is the one to announce the news to everyone, and throughout it all he is ''completely 100% serious'', with no trace of any of his characteristic [[LargeHam hamminess]] or [[DeadpanSnarker snarkiness]]. He very clearly knows how dire things have become, and is feeling the same worry and concern that Rodney is feeling. He may be the silly, wacky and over-the-top comic relief of the film, but even he knows when to slow down and be supportive of his friends by sharing worries with them.
* [[TookALevelInCynic Bigweld]] telling Rodney to give up. It's a gut punch at its finest. Before Rodney leaves, he expresses [[DisappointedInYou disappointment in Bigweld by saying that he guesses he wasn't the idol as he thought he was.]]
-->'''Bigweld''': Son, lemme give ya a good piece of advice.\
'''Rodney''': Sure, what is it?\
'''Bigweld''': Give up.\
'''Rodney''': ''(shocked)'' What?! You're telling me to quit?\
'''Bigweld''': I said "give up." But "quit" works just as good.\
'''Rodney''': Is that what you did? Is that why you're just sitting here letting Ratchet turn robots like my father into outmodes?\
'''Bigweld''': Kid, sometimes you just gotta know when you're licked.\
'''Rodney''': But you're Bigweld! You can fix anything!\
'''Bigweld''': ''(sighs)'' I used to think so. To me, having the company was all about making life better. With Ratchet, it was making money that came first. I became old-fashioned, an outmode. Go home, kid. If he beat me, he's gonna beat you.\
'''Rodney''': But...\
'''Bigweld''': [[ThatManIsDead The world you're lookin' for no longer exists]]! You missed it! Find some other foolish dream! Now if you'll excuse me, I'm very, very, very... busy.\
'''Rodney''': Yeah, I can see that. ''(to Cappy)'' [[BrokenPedestal All I ever wanted was to grow up to be like him]].\
''(Rodney and Cappy sadly walk out the door)''
** What makes this even sadder is the fact that Bigweld is essentially telling Rodney to let his father die. Rodney wants to find Bigweld to help bring back spare parts even before Herb's illness comes in, which only encourages him to do it faster. But once he finds Bigweld, the latter just tells him to give up and go home. If Rodney had done so, that would mean letting Herb (and many others like him) turn into outmodes and inevitably die.
* Rodney going into HeroicBSOD for a moment. Not long after arriving at the Robot City train station, Rodney told his father about what happened and apologizes for letting his dad down. Fortunately, Herb was able to cheer his son up by giving him AnAesop.
