[[https://forums.sufficientvelocity.com/threads/hatchling-quest-worm-metroid.22540/ Hatchling Quest]] is a ForumQuest created by Immortal's Blade for Sufficient Velocity. Beginning in September 2015, the story has been on hiatus since 2017.

[[Franchise/{{Metroid}} A young hatchling]] leaves her nest, and on her way to her destination she finds a dastardly plot: Space Pirates have rigged an abandoned space station to fall on a planet in AnotherDimension. She succeeds in saving the planet but finds herself trapped there with no way home. The world is primitive by her standards, but has many individuals with unnatural powers...as well as Chozo statues. Can Samus Aran handle [[Literature/{{Worm}} Earth-Bet]]? Can Earth-Bet handle her? And what is the sinister plot that weaves it's way through both universes?

!!Contains examples of:

* AlternateUniverse: Earth Bet is this to Samus’ home dimension. [[spoiler:It turns out that the setting is this to canon ''Literature/{{Worm}}'' even before Samus [[https://forums.sufficientvelocity.com/threads/hatchling-quest-worm-metroid.22540/page-388#post-6699213 showed up]].]]
* AmazonianBeauty: Samus has been described several times as being attractive and is physically fit.
-->'''Taylor''': I looked the girl over. [[UnkemptBeauty Her waist-long blonde hair was an unbrushed mess, and she wasn't wearing any make-up]]. Still, if Emma could be called "attractive" enough for modeling this girl was ''stunning'', she even had a natural beauty mark under her lip. Not only that but from [[ItMakesSenseInContext when she was hanging]] I knew she was [[HeroicBuild ripped]], her shirt had fallen enough to reveal abs most of the jocks would kill for.
* AncientAstronauts: It turns out [[spoiler:the Chozo have visited Earth Bet from as early as 2400 BCE and have left relics for Samus to discover.]]
* BioAugmentation: Humans from Samus’ dimension have done this over many years. Enhancements include immunity to most diseases, 250-300 year long lifespan, requiring only 4 hours of sleep, and more.
** Samus herself underwent this. She was born a normal human then she was altered into a [[HalfHumanHybrid chozo/human hybrid]].
* DemotedToExtra: Many characters who had huge roles in canon Literature/{{Worm}} become minor or side characters, if they appear at all.
* DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu: [[spoiler:Samus uses the Zero Laser to kill Leviathan.]]
* ExplainExplainOhCrap: After Vista receives serious wounds, Samus hurries to get her to a Restore Station. Once it's done, Samus comments how brave Vista is, for being a hero when she has such crippling genetic issues. A nonplussed Vista asks what issues she's talking about, and Samus explains that she lacks standard Federation genetic improvements, like she's... some kind of primitive from millennia before the Federation came into existence...
* {{Expy}}: There are quite a few to several Sci-Fi/Fantasy franchises.
** The Burning Vanguard/Svarog‘s are based on [[VideoGame/{{Bloodborne}} Lawrence, the first Vicar]].
** Dinah Alcott instead of having her canon precognition has remote viewing akin to what [[Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventure Hermit Purple gives Joseph Joestar]].
** The image used to show what [[{{Planimal}} Smog Eaters]] look like is a [[TabletopGame/Warhammer40000 Tyranid Narvhal]]. Which is ironic since the former are the ultimate prey and the latter are the ultimate predators. As one commenter put it:
--->'''Manic Dogma''': I find it hilarious that the image used for the most utter prey animal I've ever seen...is a component of the most absolute apex predator of an entire setting.
** Grav Rays are based on [[VideoGame/StarCraft Brood Lords]].
** Tank Crabs are based on [[TabletopGame/MagicTheGathering Hedron Crabs]].
** Adolescent Llyngyr are based on [[VideoGame/HeroesOfMightAndMagic Abyssal Worms]], while the adults are based on [[VideoGame/WorldOfWarcraft Lava Worms]].
** The Dazhbog and Wretches are based on [[VideoGame/Doom2016 Hell Knights and the Unwilling]].
* FormerlyFat: Director Piggot after using a restore station is restored to her pre-Nilbog physique.
* TheGlomp: Samus does this to her friends a lot. (But on at least one occasion, Taylor did this back to Samus.)
* GuiltFreeExterminationWar: Samus's default response to fighting the SpacePirates. [[spoiler:Dragon comes around to this as well, once she gets access to Samus's records and sees what the Pirates are capable of.]]
* HeroicBuild: Samus, see AmazonianBeauty.
* LiteralMinded: Samus is at the start of the quest. When she first met Taylor, she thought "hanging out" meant hanging from a tree branch.
* MysteriousAntarctica: Antarctica became this after The Simurgh [[spoiler:made her second appearance there and just vanished]]. Since then, any attempt to gather information about the continent has failed. Satellites show nothing, anyone sent there are never seen again, even capes with flight and teleportation powers vanish without a trace.
** We find out why this is in [[https://forums.sufficientvelocity.com/threads/hatchling-quest-worm-metroid.22540/page-471#post-7854636 15.16]] [[spoiler:the Space Pirates had a base there where they were studying '''Metroids!!!''' They somehow escaped, the base was abandoned, and the continent was quarantined]].
* MythologyGag: Franchise/{{Metroid}} has quite a few of these unsurprisingly.
* NamedByTheAdaptation:
** Mouse Protector's full name in this story is Karren Petersen.
** Circus' full name in this story is Arleen Haley Quinzel.
* OutsideContextProblem: Samus Aran is this to the villains and {{Eldritch Abomination}}s of the ''Worm'' universe. She's a genetically-enhanced human (hybridized with alien DNA) from another dimension and time. Her biology is incomprehensible to them, her technology is literally several thousands of years ahead of their time, and her suit and space-ship's computers can hack any Earth computer, analyze Tinker technology, and discover many secrets... And she's fully committed to the protection of the innocent and helpless.
** Samus quickly learns that a HiddenVillain has been bringing things from her own universe into ''Worm''[='s=] Earth. Even Samus is surprised to see weapons from her universe in the hands of criminals, or alien wildlife just suddenly appearing on Earth. It soon becomes apparent that nearly ''anything'' from the ''Metroid'' setting is this to the setting of ''Worm''. [[spoiler:Especially the Space Pirates, who got to ''Worm'' Earth well before Samus did and secretly infiltrated it. Being a ruthless, sadistic, and technologically advanced species from another dimension, no-one could even conceive of their existence until Samus showed up. The Pirates are even this to the Entities, as they have begun to subvert their cycle by eliminating certain Parahumans, abducting as many Tinkers as they can get their hands on, and even hatching a very nearly successful plan to abduct ''[[PhysicalGod Leviathan]]''.]]
* PowerCreepPowerSeep: Subverted. Federation tech is much more advanced than any of Earth Bet's most advanced Tinker-tech. Samus's armor and weapons are even more so.
* {{Sadist}}: [[spoiler:The Space Pirates are an ''[[AlwaysChaoticEvil entire species]]'' of these.]]
* SamusIsAGirl: PRT's Head of Image brings this up when [[http://forums.sufficientvelocity.com/threads/hatchling-quest-worm-metroid.22540/page-19 he remarks that Samus could easily pass for a boy while wearing her Power Armor]]. This trope (befittingly) becomes something of a RunningGag throughout the story. Samus keeps a SecretIdentity, and even though it's been publicly stated she is a girl from another universe, there are people who think she's a boy (or a robot). Even those who accept the official explanation are still surprised to find there's a blond girl under the power armor.
* SpacePirates: Samus's enemy and the reason she's in Brockton Bay. The Earth Bet heroes talking about them invariably leads to jokes about whether or not they're looking for Space Dubloons. [[spoiler: The laughter stops in Chapter 12.7, when the Pirates show up and invade Brockton Bay en masse.]]
* ThankYourPrey: Samus, having never eaten real meat, asks the rest of the Wards to offer a brief prayer for the animals who died for the pepperoni in their pizza.
* UnstoppableRage: A good way to get Samus to enter this state is to risk the lives of innocent people, hurt those she cares about, or get the SpacePirates involved,
** Samus goes through this during [[spoiler:the battle with Leviathan]] when she scans it [[spoiler:and finds out that the Endbringer is actually a projection, meaning that millions were killed by, essentially, an illusion.]] She goes through it ''again'' [[spoiler: when she realizes that she can't cause any meaningful damage to Leviathan or the Pirate HumongousMecha, driving her to wipe both of them off the face of Earth Bet with the [[WaveMotionGun Zero Laser]]]].
* WhamEpisode: In [[https://forums.sufficientvelocity.com/threads/hatchling-quest-worm-metroid.22540/page-345#post-6388034 12.7]] we finally learn the identity of the HiddenVillain it’s the [[spoiler:'''SPACE PIRATES!''']]
* YouHaveGotToBeKiddingMe: Everyone's standard reaction to Samus herself, usually involving any new ability she happens to display like her psychic powers and superhuman senses, and any information she casually reveals about her dimension.
