7	* AbsurdPhobia: Some of the fears seen by the townspeople are this; Attila is afraid of his croissants coming to life, Eugene is afraid of getting a cowlick, etc. Downplayed: while the fears themselves are played partially for laughs, the characters themselves treat them seriously (as the hallucinations are real to the people seeing them, and all are equally dangerous).
8	* CallBack: To stop the red rocks, Varian uses the same substance he tested on the black rocks back in "[[Recap/TangledTheSeriesS1E16QueenForADay Queen for a Day]]". This time, the thing that got his father TakenForGranite ends up saving the kingdom.
9	* CharacterDevelopment: Varian still carries guilt and self-loathing over his actions in the season one finale and the season three premiere, believing that everyone hates him (something not helped by the peoples' aloof attitude towards him) and that said hatred is justified.
