Stan's world crumbles when Wendy breaks up with him for Tolkien, so he becomes a Goth. Meanwhile, Butters falls for a waitress who only flirts with him as part of her job.
----
!!"Raisins" contains examples of:
* BorrowedCatchphrase: Stan borrows Cartman's, "Screw you guys, I'm going home," at the end of the episode.
* {{Bookends}}: The episode begins with Stan and the boys playing football before Bebe interrupts them to tell Stan that Wendy breaks up with him and the episode ends with Stan and the boys playing a football game after Stan calls Wendy a bitch and gives Tolkien the finger.
* BrainlessBeauty: Porsche appears to be one, demonstrated by her confusing cancer with a canker sore (which she refers to as a "cancer sore").
* ComicallyMissingThePoint: Bebe suggests that Stan get a boombox and play Music/PeterGabriel music outside Wendy's house, in a ShoutOut to ''Film/SayAnything''. Unfortunately, the reference is lost on Stan, so he ends up standing outside her window playing "Shock the Monkey".
* CountryMatters: Stan asks Jimmy to tell Wendy she's a "continuing source of inspiration" for him when he's first trying to fix the situation. Unfortunately, Jimmy's stutter keeps him from getting past the first syllable, and makes Wendy think that Stan is insulting her.
* EvenNerdsHaveStandards: After Butters was heartbroken from being dumped by Lexus, the Goth kids invite him to join them. Butters turns them down stating that while he's sad, he still has a positive outlook on his life and tells them he'd "rather be a crying little pussy than a faggy Goth kid."
* {{Expy}}: Raisins is this to Hooters.
* FirstWorldProblems: Kyle accuses the Goth Kids of having this mindset.
* FlippingTheBird: Stan does this to Tolkien at the end.
* FreeRangeChildren: The employees at "Raisins" are prepubescent girls, the only customers are the kids, and the only adults to appear in this episode are Butters' parents.
* GoldDigger: The Raisins girls try to tell the boys they're really into them, but really only care about how much money the boys are willing to pay them as displayed by Lexus bleeding Butters dry of his finances and showing no remorse over breaking his heart in front of his parents simply for running out of money.
* {{Goth}}: The first appearance in South Park of the [[RecurringCharacter Goth Kids]], also Stan temporarily becomes a Goth in this episode while dealing with the pain of Wendy breaking up with him.
* GrayRainOfDepression: Happens with both Stan and Butters while they're tearing up over their heartbreaks.
* HesBack: Stan at the end of the episode.
* HiddenDepths: Though most of the boys are apathetic to Stan's love life, Butters and Clyde have worried looks on their faces when they see that Stan is heartbroken. Bonus points for the two of them not being known to be the brightest tools in the shed.
* HypocriticalHumor:
** The Goths' motto is this in spades:
--->"To be a non-conformist, all you have to do is dress just like us and listen to the same music we do."
** After he's unable to find out why Wendy broke up with him, Stan tells Kyle to tell Wendy (on his behalf) to be more direct with him, when he's been anything but direct throughout the episode. HypocriteHasAPoint in that she was also using her best friend as a messenger but Stan was no better.
* InnocentlyInsensitive:
** Stan is baffled when he finds out that not talking to Wendy for weeks led her to dumping him, believing that if he simply didn't say anything wrong, they wouldn't have had problems.
** Wendy wanted to break up amiably with Stan but had Bebe (who couldn't care less about their relationship) tell him this on her behalf instead of doing it herself. Stan later tries the same thing with Kyle and Jimmy and it goes south quite quickly when Wendy misinterprets the latter's stuttering and believes that Stan sent him to insult her.
** Stan chooses to play "Shock the Monkey" outside of Wendy's house because the ''Film/SayAnything'' reference is lost on him. However, this becomes more than a little awkward when this act of his is what makes him find out that she's dating [[TokenBlackFriend Tolkien]].
* JerkassBall: Kyle is unsympathetic and selfish to Stan and only angrily yells at him to stop lamenting his break-up. Ironic that Kyle is supposed to be his best friend. Stan points out that Kyle treating him to Raisins only made him feel worse, especially because the Raisins girls aren't willing to date you, they just want your money.
* JerkassHasAPoint: Despite being one of the most morally questionable parents in the series, Butters' parents are completely correct in the assessment that Lexus is just pretending to be interested in him for his money.
* KindnessBall: Other than joking to each other about a bet on whether Butters was gay, Butters' parents are at their nicest in this episode, being supportive of him when they think he has a girlfriend, even though they have to be firm that Lexus isn't actually interested in him and are genuinely sympathetic when he gets heartbroken over it.
* LameComeback: When Bebe interrupts the boys' football game to tell Stan that Wendy wants to break up:
-->'''Cartman:''' Whatever, Bebe, like Stan really cares. Just get out of our football game, you stupid skank!\
'''Bebe:''' Fuck you, fat ass! You guys are assholes!\
'''Butters:''' Oh yeah? Well at least we have assholes, you dumb girl!
* LawyerFriendlyCameo: 'Blauhaus' for {{Music/Bauhaus}} and 'Skippy Puppy' for Music/SkinnyPuppy.
* MistakenForFlirting: Butters visits Raisins and mistakes Lexus, one of the waitresses, flirting with him to be her actually in love with him (really she's just trying to abuse the fact that guys in love tip better).
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Stan using Jimmy to talk to Wendy and tell her that she is a "continuing source of inspiration", but while Jimmy tries to repeat Stan's words, he starts stuttering and is unable to make it past the first syllable, [[CountryMatters which makes Wendy think that Stan is insulting her]].
-->'''Wendy''': "Well, tell Stan to fuck off!"
* NotDistractedByTheSexy: All the boys lust over the Raisins girls except for Stan, who's still heartbroken, and Cartman, [[TheSnackIsMoreInteresting who cares more about the food]].
* NoNameGiven: The only one of the Goth Kids with a given name in this episode is [[TheSmurfettePrinciple the girl]] (Henrietta). The male goth kids would go unnamed until "[[Recap/SouthParkS17E4GothKids3DawnOfThePosers Goth Kids 3: Dawn of the Posers]]" (The tall one is Michael, the one with red hair is Pete, and the kindergartner is Firkle).
* NoSympathy:
** Lexus has no problem in breaking Butters' heart in front of his parents.
** During recess, Bebe bluntly tells Stan that Wendy breaks up with him, and was ready to leave without further explanation before Stan stops her to ask for the reason. The fact that she initially omits the part where Wendy had apparently told her that "[[BetterAsFriends she still wants to be friends]]" until Stan directly questions her further shows how little investment Bebe had on the matter.
** Similarly, the boys immediately assume that Stan wouldn't care and go back to playing football.
* PetTheDog:
** Though she's not invested in their relationship at all, Bebe still gives Stan advice on how to get back together with Wendy after he asks her.
** While she's otherwise quick to break his heart, Lexus tells Butters that she's sorry before leaving to continue her work as a waitress.
* PoorCommunicationKills: Stan asks Jimmy to tell Wendy that she's "a continuing source of inspiration to him". [[CountryMatters Guess which syllable Jimmy gets stuck on]].
* ProxyBreakup: The beginning of the episode has Bebe tell Stan that Wendy is breaking up with him. Jimmy tries to tell Wendy (on Stan's behalf) that she's still a continuing source of inspiration to him in order to salvage their relationship. Unfortunately, Jimmy's SpeechImpediment makes him unable to pronounce anything past the first syllable of "continuing", much to the anger of Wendy who thinks that he's trying to call her [[CountryMatters something offensive]].
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: A small one but after Butters gives his 'beautiful sadness' speech, he gently yet bluntly states why he won't join the Goth Kids.
-->'''Butters''': Well, thanks for offerin' to let me in your clique, guys, uh but, to be honest, I'd rather be a cryin' little pussy than a faggy Goth kid. Well see ya, Stan.
* SatelliteLoveInterest: Lexus to Butters.
* ShipSinking: Stan and Wendy break-up this episode and don't get back together at the end. It would take until ''[[Recap/SouthParkS11E14TheList The List]]'' for them to get back together.
* TheSnackIsMoreInteresting: Unlike the other boys minus Stan, who is depressed about Wendy breaking up with him, Cartman cares more about the food at Raisins than the girls that are trying to strip the kids from their money.
* ThemeNaming: The waitresses at Raisins all have the same names as brands of cars (the expensive, luxury makes, like Lexus, Ferrari, Porsche[[note]]though Porsche as a girl's name is usually spelled "Portia," after the Shakespearean character from ''Theatre/TheMerchantOfVenice''[[/note]], and Mercedes[[note]]Which ''is'' a girl's name, and was named after a specific girl to begin with[[/note]]).
* WhamLine: "Wendy breaks up."
* WrongGenreSavvy: Butters genuinely believes that Lexus wants to be his girlfriend. Even after Lexus tells him that she never had any interest in him (to the point in which she doesn't even remember his name), Butters simply believes that she has broke up with him.
* YouAnsweredYourOwnQuestion: After Bebe tells Stan that Wendy has broken up with him:
-->'''Stan:''' Whoa, wait a minute. What did I do wrong? I haven't even talked to Wendy for weeks!
