* SubParSupremacist: Butters would rather be a cryin' little pussy than a faggy Goth kid when the Goths were ready to accept him, because he was sad about his recent breakup. Funny thing about that is Stan was dealing with a breakup with an actual long term relationship with Wendy, while Butters was deluding himself into believing that a waitress seeking tips using her sexual wiles was his girlfriend. Even worse is when in Recap/SouthParkS12E14TheUngroundable, after escaping from his abusive parents, Butters runs to the Vampire Kids who initially reject him from their clique for not being "cool enough" and use him to get snacks and soda to "prove himself", while not joining up with the Goth Kids who were previously willing to accept him (and based on this episode of how they treated Stan, the Goth Kids wouldn't have used him like the Vampire Kids did).

* NoSympathy: Lexus has no problem in breaking Butters' heart in front of his parents.

* AnAesop: It’s okay to feel sad over a breakup, but eventually dwelling too much on the past will start to take a toll on your life. Everyone is bound to have sad moments in their life, but you need to learn how to deal with them.
* BorrowedCatchphrase: Stan borrows Cartman's "Screw you guys, I'm going home" at the end of the episode.
* BookEnds: The episode begins with Stan and the boys playing football before Bebe interrupts them to tell Stan that Wendy breaks up with him and the episode ends with Stan and the boys playing a football game after Stan calls Wendy a bitch and gives Tolkien the finger.

* KindnessBall: Other than joking to each other about a bet on whether Butters was gay, Butter's parents are at their nicest in this episode, being supportive of him when they think he has a girlfriend, even though they have to be firm that Lexus isn't actually interested in him and are genuinely sympathetic when he gets heartbroken over it.

* BorrowedCatchPhrase: Stan borrows Cartman's "Screw you guys, I'm going home" at the end of the episode.

* ComicallyMissingThePoint: Bebe suggests that Stan get a boombox and play Music/PeterGabriel music outside Wendy's house, in a ShoutOut to ''Film/SayAnything''. Unfortunately, the reference is lost on Stan, so he ends up standing outside her window playing "Shock the Monkey."

Stan's world crumbles when Wendy breaks up with him for Token, so he becomes a Goth. Meanwhile, Butters falls for a waitress who only flirts with him as part of her job.

Stan points out that Kyle treating him to Raisins only made him feel worse, especially because the Raisins girls aren't willing to date you, they just want your money. This may or may not imply that he sees Wendy as a threat to his friendship with Stan.

* JerkassBall: Kyle is unsympathetic to Stan and only angrily yells at him to stop lamenting his break-up. Ironic that Kyle is supposed to be his best friend. Stan points out that Kyle treating him to Raisins only made him feel worse, especially because the Raisins girls aren't willing to date you, they just want your money.
