Considered DarkerAndEdgier than the ''Franchise/{{Danganronpa}}'' franchise's previous installments, ''Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope's Peak High School'' shows many more ways to inflict horror and despair with many macabre and gruesome moments.

[[folder:''Side:Future'']]
* The first episode gives us shots of the Remnants of Despair during the Tragedy, and they're just as bad as described in [[VisualNovel/Danganronpa2GoodbyeDespair the game]]. Kazuichi overseeing the construction of a giant Monokuma, Gundham leading an army of murderous animals, Sonia making a speech to thousands of people - doing what looks like a Hitler salute no less, Mikan preparing to inject some poor soul with a syringe filled with what's likely a deadly substance, Fuyuhiko commanding Peko and a legion of Yazuka members with Akane and Nekomaru, all accompanied by shots of a city engulfed in flames. Ruruka Ando even describes them as million-class murderers, which might not be an exaggeration. Keep all this in mind whenever you see them as regular high school students.
* Sonia's followers and the yakuza members are all wearing Monokuma helmets like those in ''VideoGame/DanganronpaAnotherEpisodeUltraDespairGirls''. This suggests many of the people who participated in the Tragedy [[BrainwashedAndCrazy were NOT doing it of their own free will.]]
* Bandai's death via poison injection. Complete with a river of blood erupting from their eye.
* [[BodyHorror The poison's effects in general are terrifying.]] Imagine half your body turning into a dark purple mess of bulging veins, while [[EyeScream one of your eyes turns red and starts leaking blood.]] It gets worse when you see that the effects are a grotesque and macabre parody of Monokuma's face.
* Some of the possible deaths shown in the opening are pretty disturbing.
** Kimura: stabbed with dozens of syringes. Her ''actual'' death has her stabbed in the chest and then in a CrucifiedHeroShot.
** Izayoi: [[KillItWithFire burned alive.]] He was poisoned instead.
** Sakakura/Miaya: [[HalfTheManHeUsedToBe sliced in two.]] This actually happens to Miaya, but Sakakura bleeds out from a stab wound instead.
** Ando: [[LiterallyShatteredLives frozen and shattered into pieces.]] Her actual death is a ''very'' gory suicide.
* The flashback where Makoto first meets Izuru Kamukura is unsettling because of just how emotionless Izuru is.
* The way the murders are set up makes it clear that the traitor is a [[AxCrazy very depraved individual]]. Unlike most of the killers in the first two games, who are more concerned with survival and hiding evidence, the traitor has a tendency to play with the victim's body in some way to increase the shock and horror upon body discovery. Not to mention that they used a toy knife and tomato sauce on Aoi just to screw with the nearby characters. They also have an odd fondness for hanging their victims from the ceiling.
** In Episode 7, it's revealed that it was Monaca who made it look like Aoi was dead.
** As pointed out in Episode 4, since they can end the game whenever they want, it's likely that they're ''not'' trying to kill everyone. Instead, with all the people they consider problematic out of the way and the kind but naive Makoto on top, they're free to use the Future Foundation in order to spread despair under the guise of hope. Long story short, they are ''dangerous.''
** The truth is a lot '''worse'''. All the victims die from induced suicide, and based on Makoto's point of view, the brutality is a combination of an attempt to stop the brainwashing and self-torture due to their feelings of guilt. There's not even getting into how Tengan was trying to off everyone in the Future Foundation while pushing Mitarai to brainwash people into "hope"-grilled zombies...
* Episode 4's ending reveals Monaca Towa is involved in the Final Killing Game, under the guise of the evidently-late Gekkougahara as a RobotMe. Bare in mind that Monaca was not only part of the BigBadEnsemble of ''Ultra Despair Girls'', but was also smart enough to stick close to the protagonists for whatever her scheme is while avoiding suspicion. Imagine one of your trusted friends having the power '''and''' intent to turn themselves around ''at any moment'' before snapping you in half... then you'll understand Makoto's current situation. This is just a third of the way through ''Future Arc'', which means that the biggest twists and horrors have yet to come.
* As of Episode 5, Munakata is inflicting a lot of this. He murders Tengan brutally, and in TheStinger, he's shown injecting one of Seiko's compounds into himself, and it has his eyes going black. Not to mention he's now LaughingMad.
* Episode 6:
** The fate of the real Miaya is [[NeckSnap not]] [[BodyHorror pleasant]].
** Makoto's nightmare sequence where the bloodied and dead Kyoko looks up at him, revealing that ''her right eye is missing''... all as she chillingly claims it's all his fault.
** It's a short moment, but the sudden cut to Monaca's memory of Nagito Komaeda comes with ''this'' [[http://i.imgur.com/Qfb6pgh.jpg lovely smile]].
*** Furthermore, it was ''Monaca'' that was creeped out by Nagito there. Yes, you read that name right -- this was basically a HateSink character that has no qualms backstabbing or inducing all sorts of monstrosities, friend or foe alike and was a voluntary, feverent adorer of Junko Enoshima, yet when Nagito, an ''actual'' person Junko did brainwash tried to mold her into Junko's successor, this was all it took to make her give up her whole deal altogether. When even one of Junko's most devout voluntary supporters manage to throw up upon actually tasting the insanity of someone brainwashed by her, this is not a good sign to begin with.
* The final scenes of Episode 7 make it seem that Kirigiri is the target of Munakata's silhouette. Turns out it wasn't Kirigiri he found, but Makoto and Asahina instead.
* Episode 8:
** [[http://i.4cdn.org/a/1472487084706.jpg Ruruka's]] NightmareFace while trying to kill Kirigiri.
** Also, much like Bandai, seeing the poison's effects on Kizakura, with his left half turning purple and blood erupting from his eye.
** Seeing the way the Miaya robot moves can be very unsettling, especially the part where it reattaches its severed head using the scarf as arms.
* Episode 9: Ruruka's [[https://66.media.tumblr.com/9108da0e31b0d452ecf3f134b6d93c38/tumblr_od1eai064H1tu3mjoo1_1280.jpg corpse after the fourth rest period]]. The killer not only stabbed in her in the heart like the others, but also completely ''mauled'' her. Her clothes are ripped to shreds, her eyes are red from all the blood that's pooled in them and to top it all off, her candy is shoved into her mouth and sprinkled on her body, almost as if to mock her. The killer must've ''really'' wanted her to pay for her actions.
** This death becomes even ''worse'' when it's later [[TheReveal revealed]] that all of "the attacker's" victims were ''[[DrivenToSuicide the victims themselves]]'', due to being brainwashed by the suicide video being played on the monitors. This means that Ruruka did all of that to '''herself'''. ''JESUS''...
* Episode 10:
** We get a flashback of Chisa and Munakata at a playground where are ''tons'' of corpses, with all of the victims having been '''children'''. Chisa sobs and asks Munakata who could've done something like that... but then [[TheReveal it turns out that not only was Chisa never cured of her]] [[BrainwashedAndCrazy despair]], but '''''[[WouldHurtAChild was also their murderer]]'''''. The Chisa Yukizome we came to know and love during ''Side: Despair'' had been long ''gone'' thanks to Mukuro brainwashing her under Junko's orders. [[SarcasmMode To make it even better]], we get to see a photo of Chisa [[DissonantSerenity sweetly smiling]] while sitting on a swing in front of the children's corpses. An eerily simple confession is written onto it: [[http://i.imgur.com/Ytf6kxu.png "It's me ♡"]].
** We finally get to hear Tengan's answer to Munakata's question about who the attacker is which caused him to GoMadFromTheRevelation: '''everyone'''. This only adds further fuel to the potential theories that the attackers are either a) the victims themselves, or b) a random player who gets brainwashed into killing someone. Both cases involve someone being forced to watch an [[BrownNote insanity-inducing anime]].
* Episode 11:
** We finally learn what Tengan meant. The first theory was correct. The victims killed themselves by being brainwashed through the monitors, which played a [[BrownNote suicide video]] that utilized Mitarai's techniques, each one being tailor-made for each victim.
** Continuing the above, seeing Naegi being brainwashed, by having him face all of the dead members of Class 78, all of whom are portrayed at the moment they died. Leon's disfigured face and the melted remains of Mondo are particularly unsettling, and even when her supposed death is ''getting run over by a truck'', Celeste's death is depicted as ''being burned''. Then, the scene cuts back to him and we're treated to a very unsettling NightmareFace, giving him the very same [[RedEyesTakeWarning Red]] MindControlEyes and SlasherSmile [[http://danganronpa.wikia.com/wiki/File:Naegi_despaired.JPG found on the Remnants of Despair]].
** The fact that not even Makoto Naegi is resistant to the suicide video. This really highlights that it doesn't matter if you're IncorruptiblePurePureness. That video can still turn you into a suicidal "attacker" or a despair-crazed mass murderer.
** Great Gozu's EyeScream during the flashback. In his fit of despair, he ''gouges out his eyes through his mask'' with the knife.
* Episode 12:
** Mitarai's final solution to end despair for good is to use a brainwashing video to fill people with hope... which will undoubtedly also rob everyone of their emotions in the process and in thirty minutes, the effects will be ''permanent''. He knows what he's doing is essentially just like what Junko did to his friends, but he's so broken at this point that he doesn't care anymore. The victims being brainwashed include Touko Fukawa, Komaru Naegi, and even a space-bound Monaka Towa.

[[folder:''Side:Despair'']]
!![[AC:General]]
* Horror sets in when it is revealed that Yukizome and Kizakura were teachers of the 77th class. Imagine seeing your former students destroying the world and being powerless to stop either it or Junko's corruption of them.
!![[AC:Episode 1: Hello Again, Hope's Peak Academy]]
* A very minor, trajectory-based case of this: Peko reacts to Chisa's sudden appearance by nearly smacking her with a kendo stick. What makes this a terror to behold is how the wind longingly resonates on her hair to emphasize the speed the weaponry was held to her neck at.
* TheStinger. It shows the Steering Committee looking over Hajime's file. It seems he's already been selected for the Hope Cultivation Plan. And this scene serves as a reminder that despite the LighterAndSofter tone, it can still hit the fan.
!![[AC:Episode 2: My Impurest Heart for You]]
* TheStinger once again. Hajime's Reserve Classroom has a new student. That student? [[OhCrap Natsumi Kuzuryu]]. After introducing herself, the title card, "[[ForegoneConclusion beginning of]] [[WhamLine the twilight]]" appears.
!![[AC:Episode 3: A Farewell to All Futures]]
* While it's more TearJerker than NightmareFuel, seeing Peko punch a wall so hard her hand bleeds is unsettling.
* Also, the title. It's certainly a grim reminder of what's to come.
!![[AC:Episode 4: The Melancholy, Surprise, and Disappearance of Nagito Komaeda]]
* This episode reminds us just shows terrifying Nagito's supernatural luck can be... to the point where it seems like it has a mind of its own, which Nagito himself cannot fully control. As if him getting caught up in a plane hijacking and then being saved by the arrival of ''a meteorite'' wasn't already indicative of its dangerous absurdity...
!![[AC:Episode 5: Beginning of the End]]
* It's presented as a joke, but there's how Junko and Mukuro casually bomb cars and kill numerous people—firmly cementing how they are the "Despair Sisters." Just the sheer fucked up relationship between Junko and Mukuro. Junko repeatedly attempts to kill Mukuro while insulting everything about her, and Mukuro is actually shown getting pleasure from it in a rather disturbingly masochistic way. As ''Side:Despair'' progresses, Junko just continues to treat Mukuro worse than dirt. Their sisterly relationship comes across as some horrific combination of DomesticAbuse and UsefulNotes/StockholmSyndrome.
* TheFourthWallWillNotProtectYou from [[TheCorrupter Junko's ability to corrupt others]]. She speaks directly to the viewer when she appears, aware they've been waiting for her, before proceeding to demonstrate the flawless charisma and charm that make her so dangerous and irresistible in the first place. For those wondering how anyone could have fallen under her influence when brainwashing isn't involved... look no further than yourselves.
* Whoo boy, the [[DownerEnding ending]]. Hajime undergoes the final procedure, and his [[EyeAwaken eyes open]]. But they're glowing, blood-red, and have a familiar pattern. And that title couldn't be more accurate.
!![[AC:Episode 6: A Despairfully Fateful Encounter]]
* Episode 6 has the following moments:
** One of the Hope Project's backers complains that Hajime was "too distraught" to be the Ultimate Hope, whereupon he is assured that this is because "some" of Hajime's old personality remained, and that they have since destroyed those remnants of Hajime Hinata...which makes it clear that they have spent the last six months ''gradually deleting Hajime'' and that he was cognizant (and still "himself") enough to realize this and be upset about it. It presents the possibility that he may have withdrawn his consent at some point in the project, but they weren't about to let him back out. He didn't wake up transformed--it was a long, gruelling process where he was waking up as a different person each time. If anything, that's scarier than the single-hit destruction of the self that was indicated by Junko--Hajime would have known something unsettling was going to happen every time they put him into that pod. Plus, he's spent half a year as a lab rat in isolation--that would do a number on anyone's psyche in and out of itself.
** Later on, we see Hajime strapped down and bolted in as the experiments are carried out, as Chisa searches the files. For added chills, none of the files refer to Hajime by his name--just "[[ItIsDehumanising the subject]]." We also finally get confirmation that the erasure of Hajime's personality erasure and Izuru's ensuing apathy were entirely intentional, not just an unfortunate side effect. As Munakata pointed out, Hope's Peak was never trying to create "hope" as much as they were creating a weapon to do their bidding and follow its agenda, so all of Hajime's moral hangups and ideals had to go.
** At one point, you hear the execution music beginning to play in the background, signalling that someone's about to have the worst--and last--day of their life. Junko is [[FauxAffablyEvil "kind enough"]] to explain her methods to a 43-year-old trustee, though this is probably old news to anyone who knows the games already: torturing someone with everyday objects is far more traumatic than the standard hard-objects-and-pointy-things approach. This time, her execution involves curry rice... spoons... '''and [[EyeScream eyes]]'''. Later, she carries his eye around in a container of takoyaki, which kind of makes you wonder about the contents of the rest of them...
** Izuru Kamakura shows off just how frighteningly superior he is when he [[CurbstompBattle disarms Junko and disables Mukuro with little more than a wave of his hand.]] Mind you, Mukuro is the Ultimate Soldier—capable of fighting on par with Sakura Ogami, dodging bullets, and having never gotten even one wound during her time with Fenrir. ''Just how overwhelming could he be if he '''actually''' went all out?''
*** During that entire sequence, he doesn't even bother to stand up.
*** Junko, however, has the last laugh. While underneath Izuru's heel, she delivers a chilling HannibalLecture about the despair that causes the hitherto unemotional Izuru to react with subtle surprise.
---->'''Junko''': Aww! You really don't get it. Guess when it comes to "cold, hard reasoning," not all roads lead to Rome. You see, despair is the great unknown. A girl can only be this smart for so long before anomie sets in; that's the curse of being bright. Everyone goes on and on about "hope," but what they ''really'' mean is "status '''quo!'''" ''Ah'', but despair is a big old mystery box! There's nothing like it to get the blood pumping, the synapses firing, ''the senses tingling!'' It straight up shatters the status quo and paves the way for chaos! Think about it—when a single assassin's bullet can plunge humanity into world war, ''none'' of us are as far from the abyss as we'd like to tell ourselves! Embrace that simple fact, and voilà! You're in for the ride of your life! Look at me; every nerve ending is on eleven! '' '''Despair''' did that!'' Come on, pumpkin pie! Some part of you has to understand. They call you the "world's hope," Izuru Kamakura, and who am I to say you're not the saviour? Therein lies the rub—hope only gets us as far as what we ''think'' we want. Safety, tranquility, ''boredom''. Come on! Nirvana looks great on paper, but for someone with your intelligence... it's more like purgatory. You're better than ''that!''
** In the final scenes, Junko runs into Mitarai as she leaves the hospital. She seems to be ignoring him... until she stops, grabs him, asks his name with an utterly monotone voice, and gives him a blank yet piercing stare. This is a ''creepily'' far cry from the over-the-top HopeCrusher she usually is.
!![[AC:Episode 7: The Biggest, Most Atrocious Incident in Hope's Peak High School's History]]
* In Episode 7, we finally get to see the Tragedy of Hope's Peak Academy. In the killing games featured in previous installments, the sight of the characters' corpses was bad enough even with the pink blood. Here? We get to see the student council of Hope's Peak Academy run around and murder each other, Battle Royale style. They're either desperately begging one another to stop, going mad with laughter, or breaking down after murdering their former friends. Why are they killing each other? Because Junko ordered them to do it or she'll both kill their loved ones and reveal their dirtiest secrets all over the Internet. And the kicker? It was to relieve Izuru's boredom and show him "the wonder of despair on an epic scale." It's made all the more disturbing by Mukuro singing "[[SoundtrackDissonance Tsubasa wo Kudasai (Give Me Wings)]]" over it all.
** There's Junko's [[SarcasmMode lovely]] speech as well. She's now trying to sway ''you'' into embracing despair just like her.
--->'''Junko''': Hope is a state of harmony. Righteous and bright and all that other ''BS''. Despair is more ''fun''—and it grows so quickly like mushrooms over a single night. Despair is messy and confusing... and it ain't much of a picky eater. It devours love, hate, the whole shebang. Despair takes the plans you've put all your faith into, and ''rips 'em to shreds''. You may ''think'' you're above petty human desires, but you ''need'' '''''despair'''''. When it's calling the shots, all bets are off. You don't wanna be bored out of your skull for the rest of forever, do ya?
** Keep in mind that this event is what kickstarted the revolt of the Reserve Course, leading to the events of ''Literature/DanganronpaZero''... the precursor to the Tragedy.
** Izuru is actually injured during this. Not bad, but he gets a small cut on his cheek because of a bullet fired from Asukasei Hino's gun. Seeing Izuru get hurt is a bit unnerving.
*** He almost seems disturbed by all the carnage. Think about it. So far, Izuru Kamakura seemed bored by everything. For him to show even the smallest hint of emotion...
*** The kicker? The injury Izuru got wasn't necessarily caused by Asukasei, but rather his decapitated body after he landed on a chainsaw. No wonder Izuru was caught off guard.
** Junko with a petrifying look in her eyes moments after Izuru was shot by Asukasei's gun. In her head, she declares that despair will "rock [his] world," adding that "once [they've] had [their] second date," the Tragedy of Hope's Peak Academy will "seem like ''nothing''."
* Ryota's anime. It uses very subtle changes in colour, eye movement, and sound to directly influence the viewer's brain. He freely admits to using every technique he could think of, including forms of ''brainwashing.'' While he created it [[WellIntentionedExtremist with the intent of filling the world with hope]], he also gave Junko some ideas.
* Junko's talent and the way it has affected her. Due to her being the [[AwesomeByAnalysis Ultimate Analyst]], Junko is left bored of the world to the point of embracing despair simply because it can't be predicted. While we have seen the way talents have affected people both positively and negatively, Junko's case is perhaps the most extreme example coming from the "negative" side. Worse yet, as Nagito and [[Literature/DanganronpaZero Soshun]] have proven, people can share a talent... means that someone with the same or similar talent as Junko can and probably ''does'' exist.
!![[AC:Episode 8: The Worst Reunion By Chance]]
* Put yourself in Ryota's shoes for a moment in Episode 8. He was alone in a darkened room with Junko, Mukuro, and Mikan--who was driven insane by a mere ''prototype'' of Junko's despair video. No matter how deranged Mikan was acting, she wasn't the scariest thing in the room. Junko was, and she blackmailed Ryota into ''perfecting'' the aforementioned video by threatening to force his classmates to participate in the next killing game. Oh, '''and''' the perfected despair video helped to cause the Tragedy. No wonder the poor kid simply couldn't take it anymore and ran away in tears in the next episode after Junko [[BreakThemByTalking mentally breaks him]] during their final conversation.
* Izuru has better luck than Nagito. '''''[[BornLucky NAGITO]].''''' The guy who's survived two plane crashes (one of which was brought down by a goddamn meteorite) and being kidnapped by a murderer, won at least three lotteries, played Russian Roulette with five bullets in the barrel and won, created a plan to have a very specific person kill him with a bottle of poison, with only his luck to make it happen, and have it WORK, had his plan to cancel the progress exam get derailed by no less than two unforeseen circumstances, and STILL get it to work, and lived beyond the life expectancy doctors gave him after being diagnosed with '''''two''' terminal illnesses''. Just think about the implications.
* Another Chisa moment. Imagine finding your whole class gone to find their missing classmate just as the surroundings become dangerous because of the Parade... ''then'' imagine one of your students bumping into you and panicking as they say that another student is going to be murdered.
!![[AC:Episode 9: Chisa Yukizome Doesn't Smile]]
* Episode 9 is full of very disturbing scenes. [[NauseaFuel You better hope your stomach is empty when you're watching it]]:
** Junko's brainwashing is so efficient that she just has to order someone to kill themselves for them to do just that. By sawing off their own head. The brainwashed person did it slowly, pleading for his life the whole time, and Chisa was forced to watch the whole thing... all while Junko ''herself'' calls it "Grade A NightmareFuel."
** Chisa's brainwashing, '''full stop'''. She is forced to watch the despair video while being strapped to a chair, with her bloodshot eyes being forced open in a configuration nearly identical to the one of ''Film/AClockworkOrange''. The thing is, she ''resists'' the brainwashing, forcing Mukuro to tamper with her brain directly with needles. Bluntly put, we are subjected to an onscreen lobotomy. This is all made even worse by the fact that while being tortured, Chisa sounds like [[InterplayOfSexAndViolence she is about to have an orgasm any minute]], especially after Mukuro lobotomizes her. The sequence also includes some close-ups of Chisa's breasts and groin, including one after she's presumably "broken" which shows her legs twitching, further implying that she is being made to feel sexual pleasure from despair... and then you remember Mikan's behavior in the previous episode...
** All of the above happens as Izuru watches, [[CatchPhrase once again complaining that he finds this boring]]. The guy seems to have pretty damn high standards in terms of torturous stuff...
** Chisa rescuing Nanami quickly takes on a chilling meaning since the former's already been brainwashed. The one person that Nanami really looked up to is now nothing more than Junko's puppet, and one can only shiver when thinking about what she is going to do to her.
** At the very end of the episode, Chisa smiles reassuringly to Nanami, but there is something ''terribly wrong'' with [[https://lparchive.org/Ultra-Despair-Girls-Danganronpa-3/Update%2078/63-074-063.jpg that smile]]. It's coldly predatory, and it only gets worse when the title of the episode is revealed to be "Chisa Yukizome Doesn't Smile." She's ''not'' trying to reassure one of her students. Chisa's putting up a friendly front and sizing her up in preparation for either the same nightmarish torture that turned her into an Ultimate Despair... or maybe something else entirely...
!![[AC:Episode 10: Smile at Despair in the Name of Hope]]
* Episode 10 picks up where Episode 9 left off, and it all goes FromBadToWorse.
** Dear god, ''Chiaki Nanami's execution''. The chronologically first execution in the franchise manages to be the most horrific of them all. She's forced to make her way through a labyrinth filled with death traps, boulders, spikes, projectiles, and who-knows-what-else... all while we hear Chiaki letting out pained cries and screams with each injury she gets. The final two-part trap is activated after she walks into a room whose door is marked "GOAL." An illusion makes it seem as though her classmates are waiting for her alongside Chisa. [[HopeSpot Chiaki reaches out for Chisa's right hand]]... [[AttackOnTheHeart only for a spear to be fired through her chest]], causing her to fall backwards right before [[ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice she's impaled by]] '''[[ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice seventeen spikes]]''' (pictured above). It makes her AI self's execution in ''Danganronpa 2'' look like a ''MercyKill in comparison!''
** The worst part? None of the traps ''actually'' kill her. Instead, she dies a slow and agonizing death from blood loss.
** [[MindControlEyes Brainwashed!Yukizome's eyes]]. Sweet, merciful Christ... '''''[[https://lparchive.org/Ultra-Despair-Girls-Danganronpa-3/Update%2080/25-076-025.jpg Brainwashed!Yukizome's eyes!]]''''' In a CallBack to Junko's eyes before she executes herself in ''Trigger Happy Havoc'' and Nagito's crazed eyes during the first class trial of ''Danganronpa 2'', her eyes are depicted as white with black spirals. It gets even worse when '''[[https://lparchive.org/Ultra-Despair-Girls-Danganronpa-3/Update%2080/50-076-050.jpg the rest of Class 77-B gets those eyes as well]]''', with Nagito's case being even more horrifying than when he's first seen with those eyes in ''[=SDR2=]''.
** The aforementioned scene where the class gets those despair eyes is terrifying because while they're reeling from the grief and horror of Chiaki's cruel death, they simultaneously look like they're in pure, despair induced ecstacy. Junko has succeeded in brainwashing them to associate grief and despair with pleasure. It's basically [[MindRape Mind Rape]] and it's horrifying to watch.
** What's particularly nightmarish about this episode as a whole is that the atrocities in it are on the "realistic" side of the scale rather than the ''Danganronpa'' franchise's usual outrageous, darkly comic brand of violence. It's the same reason Leon's execution in ''[=DR1=]'' is often viewed as the most brutal: it's far more visceral and believeable than "fried in a volcano" or "turned into butter."
*** Chiaki's death run doesn't just splatter her in around two minutes--instead, we're shown her being gradually incapacitated by several traps. She's impaled through her right foot, so she limps. She gets a head wound from a projectile, so she's partially blinded by blood in her right eye. Then she's impaled straight through her left leg, so she's practically dragging herself along. The viewer is forced to watch how these types of injuries (that are often shrugged off by other characters--Juzo pulls himself together after being ''impaled!'') would affect a real person... and ''then'' Junko finally goes in for the kill with a brutal HopeSpot. The effect is horrific, but it's also within the realms of possibility... as is the homophobic bullying directed at Juzo once his crush's identity is revealed.
*** Overall, aside from the brainwashing, there are '''no''' fancy traps or tricks--just utter humiliation, covertly-taken photos, blackmail, and a ruthless tormentor pinning a victim to the ground by stepping on their head... which is a tactic that ''real-life schoolyard bullies use''. There's no "It's too silly and exaggerated to be real!" get-out clause here.
!![[AC:Episode 11: Goodbye, Hope's Peak Academy]]
* Episode 11 is when the Tragedy begins, which also means we get treated to several more nightmarish scenes:
** The brainwashed Reserve Course students' final acts include slaughtering all security guards they see and breaking into the main course building, where they kill almost all of the students inside who aren't in the 77th class. Once Junko feels they've done "more than enough," she sends them the suicide video, which drives them to kill themselves by either jumping out of windows or running into the fiery building while ''laughing''.
** Class 77's "graduation" starts off so innocently, with Yukizome bidding her class a tearful farewell and celebrating. Of course, we all know it's a lie. After the destruction of Hope's Peak Academy begins, their eyes become the [[MindControlEyes despair eyes]] as they indirectly allude to their roles in Junko's plan for global despair. The creepiest part is that they act as though what they'll do will spread happiness throughout the world... like they hadn't been brainwashed at all.
*** Nagito continues rambling about hope despite being an Ultimate Despair, meaning he's now a walking contradiction. He will now actively increase despair so that he can ''forcibly'' create hope instead of eliminating despair to do so.
*** The Ultimate Imposter states that he can now be anyone he wishes, including the president, meaning he'll most likely kill and impersonate whoever he wants in order to sow more chaos.
*** Kazuichi intends to find the cure for environmental pollution, even though he'll either end up making it worse or deciding [[HumansAreBastards humanity's the cause]].
*** During the final class trial in ''Trigger Happy Havoc'', Junko says to the survivors that the air outside the school is polluted (and that they only have breathable air because of the air purifier in the physics lab). Just who might be responsible for the pollution?
*** Teruteru seeks to create exquisite dishes for the whole world... [[LethalChef which will likely be filled with who-knows-what drugs and poisons that will kill millions]].
*** Fuyuhiko will lead his clan down the right path... which happens to be the path of '''war'''.
*** Peko will never kill again because Fuyuhiko's army of yakuza will do it instead while she gets to be by his side.
*** Sonia will return to Novoselic and spread the good word... which is the word of the ''franchise's '''SatanicArchetype'''''. She also proclaims her desire to endorse peace in her country, which she will carry out by destroying their neighbors.
*** Mahiru will put her photography skills to good use by showcasing horrific images and doctoring them to spread more despair.
*** Mikan intends to create miracle drugs for people, meaning she'll become an addictive drug trafficker along with a creator of biochemical weapons of mass destruction.
*** Ibuki will spread happiness through her music, which will likely be dark songs about horrific acts.
*** Another interpretation of it all is that they ''actually'' mean the things they say, but Junko's mind control will twist their actions and thoughts. Even though they desire peace, to protect others, and make the masses happier... they're instead going to burn the world to the ground and cause unending suffering for despair's sake. ''They either don't understand the damage they're causing, or '''they do and are unable to do anything to stop it'''''.
** As she looks outside a classroom's window while the Tragedy happens, Junko picks up a Monokuma plushie and talks about despair while in her Monokuma personality. The final seconds of the brief scene feature Junko with ''quite'' an unsettling SlasherSmile on her face as she [[TheFourthWallWillNotProtectYou looks directly into the audience's eyes]] and belts out a version of [[EvilLaugh her Monokuma laugh]].
--->'''Junko''': ''Potential''. That's what it's about, really—despair as an adventure of the ''SPIRIT!'' If it wasn't already a thing, we'd have to '''invent''' it! [[EvilLaugh Nyuknyuknyuknyuknyuknyuknyuknyuk!]]

* ''We'' know they aren't the Remnants of Despair anymore, but imagine how pants-shittingly '''scary''' that broadcast they made taking responsibility for the final killing game had to be for most of the people who saw it. They were ''just starting'' to reclaim territory from the damage they inflicted, and then they resurface... seemingly ready for a second round of global despair. Good thing it was a fake broadcast.
** Even worse is the possibility that armies and militias across the world will initiate efforts to hunt them down, possibly lasting for the rest of their lives. There's a huge chance the 77th class will never be able to return to civilization.
