''Captain Pantoja and the Special Service'' (Spanish name: ''Pantaleón y las visitadoras'') is a short novel of Creator/MarioVargasLlosa about an army captain send to the jungle with a mission: to form a professional team of “visitadoras” (that is, prostitutes) to alleviate the troops’ needs. Basically, a mobile RedLightDistrict. Hilarity ensues.

In other words, the same things he critiziced in ''Literature/TheTimeOfTheHero'', this time {{played for laughs}}.

!!Tropes found in the book:

* AllMenArePerverts: Constantly played with. It’s even more obvious at the end, when we see a lot of previous masculine characters with prostitutes.
* BandOfBrothels
* EasyEvangelism
* TheFundamentalist
* HookerWithAHeartOfGold: Not gold, per se, but almost all the "visitadoras" are in fact very likeable (as in personality).
* HungryJungle: The jungle engulfs everyone in it and drives them slowly insane, proven by the soldiers’ horniness and the Arc sect.
* JapaneseRanguage: By a Chinese. Oh well.
* LawfulStupid: Pantoja. He stands to his orders even if that’s bad for him.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: Most of the "visitadoras".
* ReassignedToAntarctica: [[spoiler:Pantoja, at the end]].
* RedLightDistrict
* TalkShow
* UnusualEuphemism: "Visitadoras".
* WriteWhatYouKnow: WordOfGod says the story is based on fact. Make of that what you will.
** According to the author, he was told that prostitution services were arranged for army soldiers in the Amazon. Mario Vargas Llosa, who had experience with the military, assumed there must be an officer that organizes this, as it is the army's wont
