Examples of IKnewIt relating to video games.
----
* ''Franchise/AssassinsCreed'' fans assumed before the game came out that Daniel Cross, the protagonist-of-sorts from ''[[ComicBook/AssassinsCreedSubjectFour Assassin's Creed: The Fall]]'' would appear in the [[VideoGame/AssassinsCreedIII third game]]. Cue people smiling smugly when Cross appears in the present-day segments.
* In ''VideoGame/BlazBlueCalamityTrigger'', it was widely believed that the identity of the masked samurai [[FinalBoss Hakumen]] was that of resident {{Jerkass}} Jin Kisaragi, or at least some version of him, what with all the TimeTravel shenanigans. Come ''VideoGame/BlazBlueContinuumShift'' where post-TimeSkip Jin has a few moves which resemble some of Hakumen's and in his fight against [[spoiler:Tsubaki Yayoi]] he recites some of Hakumen's BadassBoast, and the theory was more or less proven correct.
* An interview with one of ''VideoGame/CallOfDuty''[='s=] former design team members confirmed that the World War II era Captain Price is the grandfather of the ''VideoGame/ModernWarfare''[='s=] Captain Price. It was Infinity Ward's intention that there always be a Captain Price in their games, as a sort of a meta/mascot character.
* There has been a fan theory that [[HarmlessVillain Dalton]] brought down Guardia between ''VideoGame/ChronoTrigger'' and ''VideoGame/ChronoCross''. The bonus dungeon in the DS version [[NotSoHarmlessVillain confirmed the theory]].
* ''VideoGame/{{Cuphead}}'', developed by Studio MDHR, was initially released for the Platform/XboxOne and Windows Store for the Platform/MicrosoftWindows versions, much to the initial dismay and confusion of many players. However, many PC gaming fans knew the Windows Store exclusivity will never last long, and Studio MDHR released the game on Steam and Platform/{{GOG|DotCom}} as well for the players who use older Windows versions (7 and above) and don't often use Windows Store.
** When trailers for the DLC ''The Delicious Last Course'' were shown, fans predicted that the FinalBoss would be [[spoiler:Chef Saltbaker]]. This theory was proven correct.
* In February 2018, Blizzard [[https://twitter.com/Blizzard_Ent/status/968727468675809280 posted]] a video of a nightlight in the shape of ''VideoGame/{{Diablo}}''[='=]s eponymous villain being ''switch''ed on and off, and many fans took it to mean that they were working on a Platform/NintendoSwitch port of ''VideoGame/DiabloIII''. Blizzard denied that a port was in the works and that the video was just a "conversation piece", but it didn't stop people from speculating. Sure enough, a Switch port would later be announced for real. Once again, Blizzard staff asserted that the "lightswitch" video was just a coincidence and had nothing to do with the port, though some remain skeptical about that claim.
* In ''VideoGame/{{Disgaea 2|CursedMemories}}'', there is an simple explanation for why Adell's Mom accidentally summoned Rozalin when trying to get Overlord Zenon and for why Adell is the only one who remains human under the influence of Zenon's curse. [[spoiler:Rozalin ''is Overlord Zenon'' reborn with his/her memories submerged under a new persona. Unbeknownst to Adell and his mother, they were right when they remarked that Overlord Zenon was a girl and 'cute' for an Overlord shortly after the supposedly botched summon.]] As for Adell, he is just a demon who happens to think he is a human. [[strike:His ear tips ''are'' hidden underneath his hair the whole time]] [[WordOfGod He has a birth defect that makes his ears look like human ears]], so he could just have been in denial the whole time or too dumb to notice that the big difference between some of the most humanoid demons and humans is ear shape, eye-color and pointiness of teeth, that is, if he didn't come out looking completely human because his parents were in human-form disguise at the time.
** Keep in mind, he probably doesn't even remember regular humans have round ears, the curse has been around since he was a little kid, after all.
** ''VideoGame/{{Disgaea 4|APromiseUnforgotten}}'': the Angel of Avarice Vulcanus ([[SincerityMode who has no connection to the big character of the same from the first game, honest]]) being the human woman Artina reborn as angel, is something that anybody playing the game would figure out immediately. It's such an [[TheUntwist un-twist]] that even the characters in the game say IKnewIt.
* For months following the reveal of the Seraphim that gave the Slayer his power in ''VideoGame/DoomEternal'', many players noticed plenty of similarities between the Seraphim and one [[spoiler:Dr. Samuel Hayden]], who was an unlikely ally to the Slayer in both the 2016 game and Eternal. Come the release of the first part of the Ancient Gods DLC, it is revealed that [[spoiler:Samuel Hayden and Samur Maykr, the Seraphim in question, are indeed one and the same]].
* ''VideoGame/DragonballFighterz'': Many fans suspected that [[spoiler:[[OriginalGeneration original character]] Android 21 was related to Dr. Gero in some way. It is revealed through her link events in the game's story mode that she was, in fact, Dr. Gero's wife, and that the son they had served as the inspiration for Android 16.]]
* ''VideoGame/DynastyWarriorsGundam 2'', did confirm, if only for its own continuity, [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEED Lacus]] [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEEDDestiny Clyne's]] involvement in the Second Bloody Valentine War was mainly to seize control of the [=PLANTs=] for herself. Kira was left thinking WhatTheHellHero?
* ''VideoGame/FateGrandOrder'': A user on Website/{{Reddit}} posted a [[https://www.reddit.com/r/grandorder/comments/81pmqf/it_is_done_thy_ark_of_the_new_world_the_grand/ fanmade Servant]] which predicted that Grand Rider is [[spoiler:Noah]], nearly four years before it was officially confirmed.
* One [=GameFAQs=] user [[https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/168653-final-fantasy-vii-remake/73100072 correctly predicted]] the now-famous/infamous [[spoiler:[[TheEndingChangesEverything twist ending]]]] to ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyVIIRemake'', ''four years'' before the game even released.
* ''Franchise/FireEmblem'':
** For ''VideoGame/FireEmblemPathOfRadiance'' people were putting out theories that the BlackKnight was [[spoiler:Zelgius]] and [[BrainwashedAndCrazy Bertram]] was [[spoiler:Renning]], which were proven right in ''VideoGame/FireEmblemRadiantDawn''. However, it was backed by [[DummiedOut an analysis of the game disc's]] contents by hackers (Bertram's portrait matched up with [[spoiler:an unused portrait of Renning]]). Of course, for those trying to avoid spoilers for the latter game definitely got a shock when a press release basically spoiled the Black Knight/[[spoiler:Zelgius]] connection.
** In ''VideoGame/FireEmblemShadowDragonAndTheBladeOfLight'''s [[VideoGameRemake remake]] ''Shadow Dragon'' ([[MarthDebutedInSmashBros yes, the one with Marth in it]]), there is a four-chapter prologue detailing Marth's escape from his homeland Altea. This section introduces a new Cavalier (in addition to Cain, Abel, and [[CrutchCharacter Jagen]]) named Frey. The last chapter of the prologue forces the player to [[spoiler:designate one of his allies as a decoy scapegoat in order to ward off an approaching force of enemy units who are attempting to capture and kill Prince Marth]]. However, if you play on Hard, the prologue is skipped entirely and [[spoiler:Frey is nowhere to be seen, leading many players to believe that he was the canonical sacrifice]]. The remake of ''VideoGame/FireEmblemMysteryOfTheEmblem'', ''New Mystery of the Emblem'', confirms this to be true, but with a twist: [[spoiler:upon being discovered as a fake, Frey was wounded and LeftForDead, but managed to survive his injuries (the only consequences of the attack being [[GoodScarsEvilScars a scar on his face]] and [[TraumaInducedAmnesia temporary amnesia]]).]]
** ''VideoGame/FireEmblemFates'':
*** The first trailer didn't show much more than an [[{{Wutai}} Eastern-style army]] and a [[MedievalEuropeanFantasy Western-style army]] fighting. Many fans guessed you would be able to pick which to side with. This later turned out to be the whole premise of the game, with the final release turning out to be [[OneGameForThePriceOfTwo One Game for the Price of Three]]. Many also called [[CharacterCustomization the Avatar]] being the actual main character this time, based on very early screenshots.
*** Hoshido (said Eastern-style army) itself didn't come as much of a surprise to several fans; there had been speculation for years, [[WMG/FireEmblem on this site]] and elsewhere, that ''Fire Emblem'' would eventually draw from feudal Japan for inspiration as opposed to the more European setting of previous games. Whether or not they correctly guessed at the use of both Eastern and Western elements in the same game is another question.
*** On the subject of ''Fates'', several correctly guessed that [[spoiler:King Garon was suffering from DemonicPossession somehow, as him being ObviouslyEvil in a GreyAndGrayMorality war seemed a little suspicious]].
** As soon as the first proper trailer for ''VideoGame/FireEmblemThreeHouses'' came out, everyone immediately figured out [[spoiler:[[https://www.reddit.com/r/fireemblem/comments/aqq8g7/place_your_bets_how_long_will_he_last/ Jeralt would be killed off]]]] since it's a long-standing ''Fire Emblem'' tradition to [[spoiler:kill off the protagonist's parents or appropriate substitutes]]. Sure enough, [[spoiler:he gets lured into a trap and murdered as you approach the halfway mark]].
* When the early trailer for ''VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddysSecurityBreach'' came out, [[WebVideo/GameTheory MatPat]] spotted a set of mechanical spider legs in one shot and predicted DJ Music Man from ''VideoGame/UltimateCustomNight'' would have a role. Needless to say, when a later trailer confirmed the legs ''did'' belong to DJ Music Man, and he was in fact a major boss fight, [=MatPat=] was ecstatic.
* The moment the character page went live on the official ''VideoGame/FugaMelodiesOfSteel'' website, it did not take long for well-verse ''VideoGame/LittleTailBronx'' fans to tie the connection between Socks, [[spoiler:Merville, and Red just from his last name ''alone'' (Million). Game Director Yoann would confirm that Socks is indeed Merville and ([[ArtificialHuman by extension]]) Red's ancestor shortly after the game launched, with Malt and Sock's Link Events having a rather blatant CallForward to the eventual creation of the DAHAK in ''VideoGame/SolatoroboRedTheHunter''.]]
* ''VideoGame/GoldenSunDarkDawn''. Oh, come on, ''VideoGame/GoldenSunTheLostAge'' in no way concluded the story. When it was announced, there was much rejoicing.
** At one point, in around 2007 or so, one fan wrote a lengthy essay comparing ''Golden Sun''[='s=] mythos to Hermeticism, comparing each version of Alchemy and various associated symbols such as the flying eyeball (The Wise One). As an afterthought, they suggested that if Camelot extended the series, it seemed likely that they would similarly expand the mythology to [[spoiler:powers not derived from Alchemy, in particular those governed by celestial objects]]. The big plot twist of ''VideoGame/GoldenSunDarkDawn'' was [[spoiler:the existence of Light and Dark Psynergy, powers ungoverned by Alchemy, revealed during the [[TotalEclipseOfThePlot Grave Eclipse]], an [[{{Magitek}} artificial]] conjunction of celestial objects]]. And here we thought Camelot [[AssPull pulled that one out of their asses]]...
* ''VideoGame/GranblueFantasy'': Every time a new Trial Character is released, fans create discussions for predicting that character's name based on the resemblance of its skill set from other existing characters or raid bosses. Currently, it worked for two pre-existing raid bosses who were Promoted to Playable:
** Olivia's trial was released as early as late September 2017, with the primary focus on her skill set having almost the same debuffs as her raid version. Other guesses included an alternate version of Forte or Lucifer, but the case was proven when a player once data-mined the character ID, revealing a placeholder named Olivia with the same skill set as the Trial Character and posted it on social media. Cygames quickly responded to it by giving a ban to the in-game account associated with that player.
** The Trial Character pre-March 2018 was easily guessed by the fans to be Tiamat mainly because the first skill is an exact copy-paste of Yggdrasil's first skill, as well as the passives similar among the two. Like Olivia, players have also compared the debuffs provided by its skills and linked it to Tiamat's, along with another evidence where her "NPC artworks" were released months ago for Rackam's 5★ uncap.
* The professions of ''VideoGame/GuildWars2'' were revealed over an 18 month period between the first and last official releases. All of the professions were guessed from concept art soon after the first reveal, and the mesmer was almost certain as the final profession from about 10 months before the official reveal.
** The existence of a Jungle Elder Dragon was speculated about due to Inquest research into their magic. Specifically they focused on the fact that the Inquest had zones in their plants for poison environments and plant elementals. Scarlet Briar's dreams and writings also inspired speculation. Mordremoth was not confirmed until the end of the first Season of Living World content.
** Based on their unclear origins, elemental nature, and strange hive mind it was speculated the Sylvari were Dragon minions early on. This speculation increased after Mordremoth was confirmed and confirmed at the end of the second Season.
* For ''VideoGame/InfamousSecondSon'', a small minority of people correctly guessed that [[spoiler:Reggie would die]] in the latter half of the game solely based on the fact that several previous companions in the series ended up becoming casualties.
* ''Franchise/KingdomHearts'':
** A trailer for ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsBirthBySleep'' was shown at the end of the [[NoExportForYou Japan-only]] game ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsII: [[UpdatedRerelease Final Mix+]]''. In it, the faces of the three main characters, Terra, Aqua and Ventus, were shown. When Terra's face was revealed to look a lot like the BigBad of the series, and the Big Bad in ''BBS'' shared a name with said Big Bad, it didn't take long for the fans to put two and two together. Turns out they were right: [[spoiler:the Big Bad of ''BBS'' possesses Terra's body, altering him physically to look like the Big Bad the fans know from the other games.]]
** Though it wasn't as widespread, it was speculated that [[spoiler:as Roxas was Sora's Nobody, Vanitas would look like Sora as Ven looked like Roxas, and be Ven's Nobody or Heartless. Well, they were right on him looking like Sora.]]
** Two mixed with a RedHerring occurred with ''[[VideoGame/KingdomHeartsChainOfMemories Chain of Memories]]'' and ''Kingdom Hearts II''. The clues in ''[=CoM=]'' made it fairly obvious that the leader of the Organization was Ansem, and that the character [=DiZ=] was also Ansem. [[spoiler:This was true.]] So of course, by simple logic, [=DiZ=] had to be the leader of the Organization. ''[[spoiler: [[{{Jossed}} Logic was wrong!]] [[MindScrew There were two people calling themselves Ansem, and one of them had become two people!]]'']] Did ''anyone'' see that coming?
** Remember back around the time of ''II'' and ''Days'' where certain fans were staunch in their belief that [[spoiler:Nobodies actually ''did'' possess hearts and weren't lying through their teeth? Along comes ''[[VideoGame/KingdomHearts3DDreamDropDistance 3D]]'' and, hey, [[AccidentalTruth turns out Demyx was right.]] While they do start with no hearts, it is only a ''temporary'' affliction, the heart will grow back. The catch is that Xemnas and Xigbar ''knew this all along'' and specifically manipulated the remainder of Organization XIII to keep up the charade.]]
** Also, some fics correctly guessed that [[spoiler:Axel would gain a Keyblade]].
** When the Mysterious Figure [[spoiler:aka Young Xehanort]] appeared in the US, PAL and ''Final Mix'' version of ''Birth by Sleep'', some fans deduced from his weapons, which had clock hands as hilts, his battle stance (holding his weapon in a way that resembles clock hands), his rewind ability and the clock motifs present on the Keyblade you are rewarded for defeating him, that [[spoiler:he was a time traveler]].
*** Everyone who wasn't guessing something totally absurd like "the real Ansem is secretly evil and also invented Xemnas's blades" guessed that, and most guessed that he was some incarnation of Xehanort since, well, every Big Bad except for Marluxia and Sora's Heartless are, the real question was how.
** [[https://shifter-of-reality.deviantart.com/art/Aquanort-530197310 A Photoshopped image of Aqua from 2015]] depicting her with [[spoiler:Master Xehanort's skin tone, hair color, and eye color to show how she'd appear if she was taken over by Xehanort in Terra's place]] ended up predicting (in a roundabout fashion) one of the most shocking revelations from the [[UsefulNotes/ElectronicEntertainmentExpo E3 2018]] trailer(s) for ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsIII''--[[spoiler:Aqua has seemingly been corrupted by darkness]].
** Likewise, similar [[PaletteSwap color edits]] with the unnacounted for members of Organization XIII were [[https://forums.khinsider.com/kingdom-hearts-iii/202684-bad-news-theres-no-female-new-organization-13-a-2.html#post6239733 fairly]] [[https://www.reddit.com/r/KingdomHearts/comments/4fggw1/luxord_marluxia_demyx_and_larxene_nortified/ common]] in the period following ''3D''. As of E3 2018, it's been revealed that [[spoiler:a BackFromTheDead Marluxia, Larxene, and Luxord are also vessels for Xehanort's heart, with all three now sporting golden eyes as [[TransformationOfThePossessed an indicator of Xehanort's influence]]]].
* For ''VideoGame/TheLastOfUsPartII'', many fans had presumed that [[spoiler:Joel]] would bite the dust because Joel's story was finished and had to leave in order to develop the story further and allow an emotional punch to the audience, including Ellie herself. [[spoiler:He eventually did, but not in a way that fans presumed.]]
* In ''VideoGame/LeagueOfLegends'', the relationship between Jinx and Vi was up in the air for years. There were enough hints for fans to start treating the idea that they might be sisters as {{fanon}}, but no official material actually said as such. Them being sisters [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20lcWfD58Vc&feature=youtu.be&t=1h13m33s was seemingly confirmed in 2017 by Ghostcrawler]], Riot's Creative Head of Development, only for him to quickly walk it back and say that [[https://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/72yxc7/the_truth_has_been_spoken_jinx_and_vi_are_sisters/dnmys3p/ he just assumed that was the case]], while the actual narrative team considered their relationship to be ambiguous. The duo's relationship as siblings would be canonized a few years later in the animated series ''WesternAnimation/{{Arcane}}'', which also confirmed another theory that their estrangement was caused by a deadly accident Jinx caused in their youth.
* ''Franchise/TheLegendOfZelda'':
** The identity of Zelda in ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaTheWindWaker Wind Waker]]''. Half of the fanbase, mostly the ones who still believed that the ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaALinkToThePast Link to the Past]]'' incarnation was Link's sister, believed that Aryll was going to be Zelda. The other half, who noticed the small similarities in appearance between Tetra and Sheik (blond hair, tan skin, bandages around the arms and some concept artwork that showed her with red eyes) guessed it was gonna be her. The latter group won out.
** Some people thought Zelda was the ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaTwilightPrincess Twilight Princess]]''. Others figured that the subtitle of every game since ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaOcarinaOfTime Ocarina of Time]]'' usually referred to an element introduced in that particular entry, the title likely referred to Midna instead, which the game confirms in its final act. Interestingly enough, the game initially tricks you into thinking Zelda is the Twilight Princess, with Midna mockingly referring to her as such when she introduces Link to her.
** Many fans involved in the series' late 2000s FanWank claimed that ''Zelda'' was split into two timelines after ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaOcarinaOfTime Ocarina of Time]]'' -- a Child Timeline that Link returned to at the end of the game, and an Adult Timeline for the future he left -- with some questioning if there was a separate, third timeline due to some games not fitting cleanly into that split. Nintendo would reveal this to be the case in ''[[AllThereInTheManual Hyrule Historia]]'', showing that it's actually a three-way split; the games that fans struggled to place are in a third branch called the Downfall Timeline (wherein Link failed to defeat Ganon).
** Upon the [[UsefulNotes/ElectronicEntertainmentExpo E3]] 2009 showing of some concept art for the then-untitled ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaSkywardSword Skyward Sword]]'', fans predicted that the mysterious blue woman in the piece was the Master Sword (or more specifically, a more humanoid version of the Master Sword). The following E3, this was confirmed. The game also gave credence to a long-standing theory that [[spoiler:Ganon is the reincarnation of a much older demon]]. Or rather, that [[spoiler:the essence of the demon's ''hatred'' manifested as Ganon]], but either way, [[spoiler:Ganon exists because of an ancient demon]].
** [[http://www.zeldauniverse.net/zelda-news/hyrule-historia-reveals-oot-links-cameo-in-twilight-princess/ It has been confirmed that]] the popular theory of the Hero's Shade from ''Twilight Princess'' being the Link from ''Ocarina of Time'' (due to strong, but cryptic hints given in-game) is indeed true. Additionally, the theories of the Link in ''TP'' being descended from the ''[=OoT=]'' Link are also true, with the exact quote from ''Hyrule Historia'' reading "Link is taught secrets by the ghost of the Hero of Time, who is his ancestor. After he was returned to the time of his childhood, he felt regret at leaving behind his role as the Hero."
** Also as of ''[[AllThereInTheManual Hyrule Historia]]'', it turns out that the owl in ''Ocarina of Time'', Kaepora Gaebora, was indeed a form of Rauru. People had deduced it from the Gossip Stone hints, but now it's been [[http://www.zeldauniverse.net/zelda-news/hyrule-historia-confirms-ocarina-of-time-owl-is-rauru/ confirmed.]] The exact quote being "Rauru. He's the sage who built the Temple of Time in ancient times. Before Link pulled the Master Sword out, he followed Link's adventures as the owl Kaepora Gaebora."
** Fans were also right about ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaTheMinishCap The Minish Cap]]'' being the first game timeline-wise when it was originally released (it was kinda obvious: the Master Sword doesn't appear, Ganondorf isn't even mentioned, and it explains where [[IconicOutfit Link's trademark pointy hat]] came from, even though a canonically earlier Link, explained later in ''Skyward Sword'', had it). It held the position of first game in the timeline until ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaSkywardSword Skyward Sword]]'', which was set even earlier, was released several years later.
** For ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaTearsOfTheKingdom'', fans were convinced, since first hearing the voice of Ganondorf in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHGShqcAHlQ the third trailer]], that his voice actor would be Creator/MatthewMercer. Mercer himself [[https://twitter.com/matthewmercer/status/1646676756122705922 ultimately confirmed it]] once he was given permission by Nintendo to discuss his role.
* In ''VideoGame/LifeIsStrange'', the reveal at the end of Episode 4 that [[spoiler:Mr. Jefferson is the BigBad]] was called by many fans. This [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MnKbkI8RVvU video]] says it all, even though at the time it was just a theory.
* In 2006, a fanfic about ''VideoGame/MapleStory'', ''Revolt of the Archers'', had a character say that "Final Attack is the key to the legendary fourth job." Come 2011, in the Jump! Update, a new skill called Advanced Final Attack was introduced to the 4th job skill tier.
* ''Franchise/MassEffect'':
** In-universe example with ''VideoGame/MassEffect2''. The geth speculated that Reapers, synthetic life so very different from them, were [[spoiler:{{Mind Hive}}s made up of billions of organics]], but this was only one of many theories they came up with. You only know it even ''was'' a theory if [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CqtAHNQT3-w some specific circumstances are met,]] and it's far from an IWarnedYou.
** ''VideoGame/MassEffect3'':
*** Someone going by screwoffreg on the Creator/{{Bioware}} forums predicted, word-for-word, the... controversial ending of the game [[http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/105/index/970146/1 way back in 2010.]]
---->"There are two endings I wouldn't like for ME 3. One being [[spoiler:a random GOD LIKE force that saves the Galaxy or another being that to defeat the Reapers, everyone has to become a primitivist and destroy the Relays, Citadel, etc.]] Both would make me pretty unhappy as those endings have been done to death."
----->— '''screwoffreg''', a.k.a. "the Prophet"
*** The notion of defecting Reaper troops in multiplayer was bandied about on the message boards, especially after the Leviathan DLC. Then came the Collector Adept.
* The WildMassGuessing [[WMG/MetalGear page]] for ''VideoGame/MetalGear'' mentioned the theory that Liquid never really [[VideoGame/MetalGearSolid2SonsOfLiberty came back from the dead]] and Ocelot was faking it to destroy the Patriots. It was very close to the mark with what happened with ''[[VideoGame/MetalGearSolid4GunsOfThePatriots MGS4]]''.
** Additionally fans speculated that Mr. Sigint from ''[[VideoGame/MetalGearSolid3SnakeEater MGS3]]'' and the DARPA Chief Donald Anderson from ''[[VideoGame/MetalGearSolid MGS1]]'' were one and the same. ''[=MGS4=]'' confirmed this by making him and the rest of Naked Snake's support crew into the founders of the Patriots (which might be a case of AscendedFanon).
* After ''VideoGame/MetroidFusion'' had Samus Aran genetically augmented to become part-Metroid in order to save her life, many fans theorized two things: that her being the only remaining source of Metroid DNA in the universe means that she'll be the target of morally dubious individuals, and that the Metroid DNA will alter her physiology beyond a weakness to cold temperatures into becoming a humanoid Metroid, life-sucking powers and all. Both of these ideas have fueled countless fanfiction and fanart. [[spoiler:''VideoGame/MetroidDread'' confirms the former halfway through the game, with the latter also getting confirmed in its final act; she even ends up gaining a Metroid Suit of sorts reflecting her new nature as an EleventhHourSuperpower, as some also guessed.]]
* Several ''Franchise/MortalKombat'' fans theorized that Noob Saibot was the elder Sub-Zero (the one who starred in ''[[VideoGame/MortalKombatMythologiesSubZero Mythologies]]'' and was killed at the end of [[VideoGame/MortalKombat1992 the first game]]) long before it was confirmed to be fact in ''[[VideoGame/MortalKombatDeception Deception]]''.
** ''Deception''[='s=] Konquest Mode established the fact that [[BlindWeaponmaster Kenshi]] from ''[[VideoGame/MortalKombatDeadlyAlliance Deadly Alliance]]'' [[MissedTheCall had been trying to enter]] [[VideoGame/MortalKombat1992 the first game's tournament]] [[RoaringRampageOfRevenge to enact revenge upon Shang Tsung]]. Putting two and two together, many a fan felt that Kenshi (himself one of the few {{Ensemble Darkhorse}}s ''not'' from the first three games) would have a good chance of being included in [[VideoGame/MortalKombat9 the 2011 game]]. They were [[DownloadableContent (mostly)]] [[http://www.fightersgeneration.com/np7/mk9-dlc.jpg right.]]
** Similarly, [[WordOfGod Ed Boon's]] [[http://twitter.com/#!/NOOBDE Twitter]] update on September 10, 2011 contained [[http://twitpic.com/2n1by5 a picture]] of a single leg, clearly belonging to a female character. Many guessed either a redesign for Sindel or, judging by the symbol on the loincloth, Sareena (an ImpliedLoveInterest of both Sub-Zeroes and an EnsembleDarkhorse[=/=]AscendedExtra from ''Mythologies''). Others guessed that was it Skarlet, a rumored character from ''[[VideoGame/MortalKombatII II]]'' believed to be encountered when selecting between the blue Kitana and the purple/pink Mileena. The latter school of thought was ultimately correct, with a character known as Skarlet (originally known as "The LadyInRed") making her debut in ''9'' as DLC. The fact that [[WordOfGod Shaun Himmerick]] mentioned in an interview that "hidden characters that didn't exist, we're gonna make sure they exist now" makes the notion of this being an AscendedGlitch very plausible.
** In ''[[VideoGame/MortalKombat4 Gold]]'', the [[McNinja Lin Kuei]]-turned cyborg Cyrax [[SuddenlyEthnicity was revealed to be]] [[AmbiguouslyBrown dark-skinned]] in his ending despite his clan being based in China. Cue the fan theory that the Lin Kuei kidnaps and enlists members into their ranks. Again, ''9'' lends credibility to this; Cyrax's bio states that he's Motswana and was recruited to join the Lin Kuei, while Smoke hails from Prague (as in UsefulNotes/{{the Czech Republic}}).
** Finally, the development that [[spoiler:the younger Sub-Zero [[UnwillingRoboticisation would be turned into a cyborg]] instead of [[HeterosexualLifePartners his best friend]] Smoke in the new timeline]] counts as this for some. In fact, WildMassGuessing on this very wiki accurately predicted this.
** [[SerialEscalation Another one]] in regards to the new game dubbed ''VideoGame/MortalKombatX''. Several fans had been saying that at the end of ''[=MK9=]''[='s=] story, [[spoiler:Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade would get together seeing as how they were the only surviving defenders of Earthrealm besides Raiden]]. Not too many people were surprised when a character revealed for ''Mortal Kombat X'' happened to be named Cassie[[spoiler: Cage, Sonya and Johnny's daughter]].
** After the ending of ''VideoGame/MortalKombat11'', some fans thought it would be cool if the next game [[spoiler: (or the first game in the new timeline]] was a prequel featuring the characters talked about in the backstory of TheVerse, such as the Great Kung Lao. The ending of 11's ''Aftermath'' DLC [[spoiler: shows Fire God Liu Kang talking with the Great Kung Lao when he was young, telling him he must start training for Mortal Kombat.]]
* The basic plot of ''VideoGame/{{MOTHER 3}}'' was predicted as early as 2000 on STARMEN.net. It was quite the impressive feat considering it was based on a handful of screenshots for a version that was [[{{Vaporware}} cancelled]] half a decade before the game eventually came out in 2006.
** One fan successfully guessed the English localized title of the first ''VideoGame/{{MOTHER}}'' game to be ''VideoGame/EarthBoundBeginnings'', five years before the localization was released.
--->''I think if MOTHER was ever released, they'd make up some sort of name, like "[=EarthBound=]: Beginnings" or "[=EarthBound=]: Giygas' First Strike!" or "[=EarthBound=]: Giygas Wages War!" or whatever they can come up with that is a take off of "The War Against Giygas!"''
* In ''VideoGame/NinjaGaiden II'' for the 360, players are introduced to Sonia, a CIA agent [[{{Expy}} who assumed a role very similar to that of]] Irene Lew (Ryu Hayabusa's main squeeze who ''also'' happened to be a CIA agent) from the original NES trilogy, right down to pinballing between ActionGirl and FauxActionGirl status. While the two look significantly different (Irene being a mousy brunette, Sonia a buxom, pale-skinned blonde), fan theories linking the two together began to pop up. Come ''VideoGame/DeadOrAlive: Dimensions'', it turns out that "Sonia" (already implied to not be the character's real name) was merely an alias for Irene Lew, making the two characters one and the same. While this does create a few continuity problems (such as Ryu and Irene not meeting until the original game or the question of how Irene [[FanservicePack went from cute to]] '''[[HotterAndSexier HOT DAMN]]''', both of which are still minor enough to be fixed via {{retcon}}s), this does help establish a more viable link between the old trilogy and the current-gen games (previously, there were only a few hints that the new titles were {{prequel}}s to ''Dead or Alive'' and the NES trilogy, such as Ayane popping up to help Ryu from time to time).
* ''VideoGame/{{Octodad}}: Dadliest Catch'': In-Universe. [[spoiler:When Octodad reveals his true identity, Stacy doesn't act all surprised.]]
-->''Nobody else knew?''
* ''VideoGame/OctopathTraveler'': When the first two protagonists, Olberic and Primrose, were revealed, some people started speculating that the first letter of each protagonist's name would come together to spell out Octopath. This theory started gaining widespread traction when Tressa and Alfyn were revealed, and was confirmed after the reveals of H'aanit, Therion, Cyrus, and Ophilia.
* In ''VideoGame/PillarsOfEternity'', the [[GodIsDead god Eothas is dead]]; he possessed a human host and went on a violent crusade for reasons unknown, only to be blown to pieces by [[FantasticNuke the Godhammer bomb]]. However, priests of Eothas were still able to somehow cast spells, and candles lit in his temple remained alight despite being unattended for ''years''. And in ''The White March'', it's discovered that [[spoiler:another god, Abydon, was able to come back from [[ColonyDrop having a moon dropped on him]]]]. Finally, with Eothas being the god of light, redemption, and ''renewal'', many people doubted his demise would be permanent. And indeed, ''VideoGame/PillarsOfEternityIIDeadfire'' starts with Eothas' violent resurrection.
* ''Franchise/{{Pokemon}}'':
** A VideoGameRemake of ''VideoGame/PokemonGoldAndSilver'' had been rumored and theorised since the 2004 release of ''[=FireRed=]'' and ''[=LeafGreen=]'', the remakes of ''VideoGame/PokemonRedAndBlue''. Five years later, on May 8 2009, [[http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pokemon_HeartGold_and_SoulSilver_Versions the rumor finally came true.]]
** A popular fan theory was that Silver, TheRival of [[VideoGame/PokemonGoldAndSilver the second generation]], is [[BigBad Giovanni's]] son. This was hinted at in ''[=FireRed=]'' and ''[=LeafGreen=]'' when one member of Team Rocket mentions that Giovanni's kid has red hair, and ultimately proven correct in ''[=HeartGold=]'' and ''[=SoulSilver=]'' as part of a sidequest unlocked by an event [[TimeTravel Celebi]].
*** While on the subject of the event, the fact it requires a promotional Celebi meant it was possible it would be given away as a promotional distribution event to promote the the next movie, and that meant it had a role in the movie. Come the announcement of the thirteenth movie, [[Anime/PokemonZoroarkMasterOfIllusions guess who's in it]]?
** Although the typical [[FanNickname provisional name]] for ''VideoGame/PokemonBlackAndWhite'''s Grass starter was [[SmugSnake Smugleaf]], a somewhat-close second was Snivy (snake+ivy, with the bonus of also sounding like snide+ivy). When the starter English names were revealed... [[AscendedMeme the Grass-type was named Snivy]].
*** The same goes for Pignite, although that was used for the second evolution of the Fire starter instead of the first. Similarly, some guessed "Emboar" for the final evolution (bonus points for sounding similar to its Japanese name, "Enbuoh"), and it turned out to be correct too.
*** Some people came up with the off-the-wall theory that Oshawott would evolve into samurai otters. They were mostly right; its final evolution is more of a samurai sea lion, but its first evolution is definitely a samurai otter.
** During the promotions for ''VideoGame/PokemonBlack2AndWhite2'' people began to suspect that Generation V will have a shorter run compared to two previous generations which lasted four years each. The basis for this was the fact the event Pokémon Keldeo, Meloetta, and Genesect were all officially revealed within the same year instead of spread out like Generation IV's event Pokémon. With the announcement that Generation VI begins on October 2013 worldwide with the release of ''VideoGame/PokemonXAndY'', it is definite that Generation V will only have a run a bit over three years in Japan and less than that in the rest of the world.
** Many fans were certain that Gen VI would introduce a new Eeveelution, due to the previous pattern of two in Gen II and two in Gen IV. Cue the reveal of Sylveon in February 2013.
** And on the subject of Sylveon, its type was left a mystery when it was first introduced, leaving players to begin speculating on its type. There were guesses of Bug, Flying and Normal, but none of them seemed to really mesh with the design of it. Then the idea began spreading that it must be a new type, and due to its name meaning Sylph, Nymph or Fae in all languages, perhaps it was a sort of Fairy type. Which turned out to be the case.
*** Fairy type ''itself'' had been joked about from very early on. Every new generation was accompanied by people "revealing" Fairy type, people speculating about Fairy type, and people mocking the previous. Come G6, and Fairy type is real.
** Much like ''Gold and Silver'', fans expected remakes of ''[[VideoGame/PokemonRubyAndSapphire Ruby and Sapphire]]'' to be made. That came true with the reveal of ''Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire''.
*** In said remakes, as soon as Steven Stone was hinted at having some connection to Mega Evolution, fans predicted that his signature Pokemon Metagross would be getting a Mega form. They were right.
** ''VideoGame/PokemonSunAndMoon'' had infinitely many theories about them due to the many trailers put out before release. Some of them were minor things (i.e. Primarina being Water/Fairy type), but some were accurate predictions about major spoilers, like [[spoiler: Lusamine being the BigBad and the [[EvilMatriarch mother]] of Lillie and Gladion]].
* ''VideoGame/Portal2'': On the WMG page someone was cleverly speculating that [[spoiler:Chell was the daughter of employees of Aperture Science who was brought there for "Bring Your Daughter to Work Day"]] and in the sequel, you find [[spoiler:that one of the potato science experiments that said daughters brought along in said day, the horribly overgrown one, was done by a little girl named Chell]].
* ''VideoGame/RaidenV'' was originally released as an Platform/XboxOne exclusive, much to the ire of many players who were not willing to buy one console just for one game, especially in Japan where the Xbox One has comically low sales numbers. Many fans assumed that it would eventually go the way of ''VideoGame/{{Raiden}} IV'' and gets ports to other platforms, particularly PC and a Sony console. Sure enough, there's a 2017 UpdatedRerelease on Platform/PlayStation4 and Windows (via Platform/{{Steam}}).
* Due to its nature as a {{Prequel}}, most people figured out that in ''VideoGame/RedDeadRedemption2'', [[spoiler: Arthur dies as he was [[RememberTheNewGuy never once mentioned]] in the [[VideoGame/RedDeadRedemption first game]]]]. There were also a couple of shots in some trailers that led people to believe that [[spoiler: you play the epilogue as John Marston]] which also ended up being true.
* When ''VideoGame/ReflecBeat Limelight'' introduced the song "VALLIS-NERIA", aka "yet another 185-BPM song by DJ YOSHITAKA", in June 2012, many fans speculated that it would eventually be crossed over to ''VideoGame/{{beatmania}} IIDX'', especially after ''beatmania IIDX 20 tricoro'' was released in September 2012 and included another Yoshitaka song, "FLOWER", and eventually added another song by the same artist, "JOMANDA", as part of a series of [[{{Crossover}} LIMIT BURST]] songs, in December 2012. To almost no one's surprise, "VALLIS-NERIA" appeared on ''tricoro'' in July 2013 as part of another crossover event.
* Fans could not understand why Albert Wesker was so hot to get the T-Veronica virus in ''VideoGame/ResidentEvilCodeVeronica'', as the virus he apparently doused himself with worked nearly instantly, gave him super strength and speed, and let him keep his human intelligence. Many fans speculated that his virus was unstable and required expensive or complicated boosters to keep up, which was confirmed as canon in ''VideoGame/ResidentEvil5''.
* ''VideoGame/SakuraWars2019'':
** A few people guessed that the game would be released on the Platform/PlayStation4 the moment Sega's job listings for the game were posted in June 2018.
** Many fans predicted that Sumire Kanzaki was going to return as the Flower Division's commander. They were right.
** When Yohei Azakami commented that Kamiyama was one of his biggest voice-over roles, many predicted that he would be a fully-voiced character, which was later confirmed in a [[https://www.famitsu.com/news/201905/03174243.html?page=2 Famitsu]] article containing the extended interview with the developers at Sega Fes 2019.
** Given the nature of the international Combat Revues in the story, many were speculating that the Berlin Combat Revue was to appear the game. Sega officially confirmed their appearance at the 2019 Tokyo Game Show.
** Some fans correctly guessed that Noizi Ito would design some characters in the game, namely Itsuki Saijo and Hiromi Hongo.
** When the game was [[https://www.grac.or.kr/Statistics/Popup/Pop_StatisticsDetails.aspx?79dcd17ea26cb10fdae3b03e644db63ca6c813a6a053e8e5ec12581d53453bb0 rated 18+]] by the Game Rating and Administration Committee in South Korea on September 26, 2019, some fans suspected that the Koi-Koi card game featured in previous ''Sakura Wars'' titles would make an appearance in the game itself. Sure enough, [[https://gematsu.com/2019/11/project-sakura-wars-details-hakushuu-murasame-smartron-and-koi-koi-mini-game they were proven right]].
** A few players also guessed that ''Sakura Wars'' would have a Christmas storyline when Koch Media released the first French trailer.
** After the Australian Classification Board [[https://www.classification.gov.au/titles/sakura-wars posted the game's rating]] on their website, many accurately predicted that the official international title was going to be ''Sakura Wars''.
* ''Franchise/{{Splatoon}}'':
** Many had speculated that when the final Splatfest for [[VideoGame/Splatoon1 the first game]] would be "Callie versus Marie". This was especially the case after the Squid Sisters got [[ItsPersonal in a serious argument]] after the North American "Early Bird vs. Night Owl" Splatfest, with datamining revealing that they would have fought with each other regardless of who won. This was confirmed on June 30th 2016, with Nintendo announcing that this was indeed the case.
** After the [[https://youtu.be/869_lwZfyTo Hero Mode trailer]] for ''VideoGame/Splatoon2'' dropped, many people predicted that [[spoiler:Callie was brainwashed by DJ Octavio]]. Many people also correctly guessed that this would mean [[spoiler:the final boss theme would include a DarkReprise version of "Bomb Rush Blush" (Callie's solo song), followed by Marie attempting an IKnowYoureInThereSomewhereFight via a version of "Tide Goes Out" (her own solo song)]].
** Soon after the game released, pointers were discovered in the data for "[=OctGirl=]" and "[=OctBoy=]" as options for character customization, but with nothing associated with them, leading to the "playable Octoling" rumors from the first game to resurface. An early balance patch added more fuel to the fire, with dataminers discovering character attributes for the player's species in addition to the regular customization options, like gender, skin tone, and hairstyle, alongside unused model meshes that looked suspiciously like hair models for both genders of octos, separate from what the [=NPCs=] use. Playable Octolings would be added to the game with ''Octo Expansion'' DLC campaign, released a year after the game's launch.
** After the announcement of the Octo Expansion and the fact that it's located in a subway, many keen eyed fans noted the inaccessible subway entrance in the main plaza, down an otherwise dead-end path. While one could argue the path was merely there for symmetry with the entrance to Salmon Run, these fans speculated it would be the entrance to the Expansion's content and had been hiding in plain sight since day one. The sprite artwork of a Gunion (an octopus-like enemy from ''VideoGame/SuperMarioLand'') seen in the subway entrance made it more obvious. They were correct.
** For the Final Fest, many players speculated that "Fly Octo Fly ~ Ebb & Flow", the FinalBoss music from ''Octo Expansion'', would be used as Turf War music. This was confirmed on the last day of the Splatfest, where it played for all matches.
** Because Team Chaos won the Final Fest in ''Splatoon 2'', everyone predicted that the team's victory would impact the direction ''VideoGame/Splatoon3'' would take, since the first game's "Callie vs. Marie" Splatfest was rumored to have influenced the main campaign of the sequel. Lo and behold, ''3'' would have a general "chaos" theming, the developers later confirming that they didn't even start conceptualizing the third game until after that Splatfest.
** Several fans predicted, long before ''Splatoon 3'' was even announced, that the story mode would have [[spoiler:[[BadBoss Mr. Grizz]] as the main villain, given how ''2'' heavily hinted at the character having AmbiguouslyEvil intentions that neither of that game's story campaigns explored.]] Furthermore, many predicted that [[spoiler:he would be an actual grizzly bear, based on both the bear statue that is used as a radio to talk to employees and one of the last Salmon Run stages added to ''Splatoon 2'' being the [[TheArk Ruins of Ark Polaris]] and covered in signs warning passersby of bears.]]
** Many fans predicted that the Order Sector, the central hub of ''Side Order'', would be a virtual location in some sort of {{cyberspace}} from the trailers having frequent shots of MatrixRainingCode, emphasis on simplistic polygonal shapes, subtle circuit patterns on certain objects, and Pearl suddenly being an AttackDrone with seemingly no in-universe explanation.
* Players of ''VideoGame/StarTrekOnline'' took notice when Creator/CrypticStudios altered the in-game model of [[Series/StarTrekTheNextGeneration Worf]] to more resemble what he looked like in real life, but older. When one of the developers "[=BranFrakes=]" made mention of an "Epic Announcement", people had started to wonder if the alteration to the model meant that Worf's actor, Michael Dorn, would be reprising his role for the game, as Denise Crosby reprised her role as Tasha Yar and voiced Empress Sela earlier. [[spoiler:He came back to voice the character in the Feature Episode "Sphere of Influence" and is confirmed to give his character speaking lines in the early Klingon missions.]]
* Many people guessed that ''VideoGame/SuperMarioBros3'' was all a play performed by the characters, citing things such as the curtain that gets lifted in the intro and the platforms that are seemingly bolted to air. [[WordOfGod Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uu2DnTd3dEo that this was indeed true, 27 years later]].
* After the bonus "2.5: Unified Wisdom" segment of ''VideoGame/{{Super Robot Wars Original Generation}}s'', fans feared [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsAdvance Lamia Loveless]] was KilledOffForReal, though some doubted the event would follow through, considering the ending text said ToBeContinued shortly after the segment ended. When trailers for the GaidenGame sequel ''Original Generation Gaiden'' was announced with the plot of ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsReversal'' being concluded, fans deduced Lamia would return with a dose of BrainwashedAndCrazy, courtesy of the ''Reversal'' BigBad, as per the events of that game, where [[Anime/MobileFighterGGundam Master Asia]] is brought BackFromTheDead and under its control (effectively, Lamia is the Master Asia proxy in ''Original Generation''). Whoever rescued her, however, nearly no one correctly predicted.
** ''[[VideoGame/EndlessFrontier Super Robot Wars OG Saga: Endless Frontier]]'' introduces Aschen Brodel, a seemingly okay {{Expy}} of Lamia, both being {{Artificial Human}}s, sharing the same [[Creator/KaoriShimizu voice actress]] and color scheme. Then comes Aschen's SplitPersonality problems, turning her into a GenkiGirl, while mentioning "Code:DTD." Fans immediately deduced Aschen is one of the W-Numbers series of androids created by the [[WarForFunAndProfit Shadow-Mirror]], and is part of the lost contingent of Shadow-Mirror operatives who didn't make the interdimensional jump from their universe into ''Original Generation''. Additionally, fans guessed Aschen, designated as W07, is Lamia's predecessor; when the game was released, both were correct.
** Back in ''Original Generation 2'', the description of [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration Beowulf]] and his unnatural abilities recalled by Lamia led fans to believe he wasn't entirely human. When ''Original Generations'' was released, fans noticed Beowulf had FacialMarkings under his eyes, similar to those found on [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsCompact2 Einst Alfimi]]. Fans theorized Beowulf is either in league with the [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsCompact2 Einsts]] or influenced by them; the theory was boosted with the ''Endless Frontier'' [[AudioPlay drama CD]], where Beowulf's Gespenst MK III regenerates a lost limb, after [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsAdvance Axel Almer]] uses the Soulgain to destroy it. The first five minutes of the AnimatedAdaptation ''The Inspectors'' confirms Beowulf is infested by the {{Eldritch Abomination}}s.
* When ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosBrawl''[='=]s development blog, ''Smash Bros. Dojo'', introduced the Subspace Army, it had been widely speculated that the seemingly OriginalGeneration Ancient Minister was actually [[spoiler: [[RobotBuddy R.O.B.]] in disguise, some even going as far as to [[http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/466/robministeroverlayui5.jpg sketch it out.]]]] Some disagreed, pointing out that [[spoiler: R.O.B.s]] were already in the game as MechaMooks. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ih-YQID7F38 Guess who won out?]]
** [[http://twitter.com/CASHAMILL/status/78163126826188800 This tweet]] came out at about the time ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosForNintendo3DSAndWiiU'' was first revealed. Fast forward four years, and [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyVII Cloud]] is in the game as DLC.
** Due to the enormous popularity of ''VideoGame/Splatoon1'', many people believed that when the Switch iteration of the franchise was announced, the Inklings would be some of the first new characters. Sure enough, when ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosUltimate'' was formally announced, the Inklings were the first newcomers identified.
* ''VideoGame/TalesOfXillia'' had several players, especially those who have played ''Tales'' games before, predict revelations even prior to the game's release.
** Among the first things to be revealed about [[ActionGirl Milla Maxwell]] was that she was ''the'' Maxwell, Lord of the Spirits. Cue dozens of people stating that she obviously wasn't, partly due to it being mentioned early on and played up a lot. In the game, players turned out to be correct, as it revealed that Milla was nothing but a decoy created by the ''real'' Maxwell.
** People knew that several ''Tales'' games tend to have a SixthRangerTraitor and when they took a look at Alvin, they figured he was the one to betray the party. They were correct; he betrays the party multiple times.
* A somewhat meta example: it was suspected almost from the very start that the Sniper Update for ''VideoGame/TeamFortress2'' was more than it appeared. Valve had mentioned in passing that they didn't want to see servers flooding with the single class that was being updated, since the players hated that situation so much. When people noticed the Dead Ringer in the spy's hands on the blog, it became nearly a certainty that the Spy would be getting updated at the same time. It was also suspected that Jarate was not just a joke, but there wasn't much of a basis for that suspicion.
** The Scout Update unlocks resemble suggestions from the forums too much to be coincidence.
** The "Meet the Pyro" video reveals that [[spoiler:the Pyro is in fact either insane or seriously drugged (or both), as Pyro perceives the slaughter and pain and mutilation they inflict on others as harmless playing in a SugarBowl world]]. This has led to much pleasure among some silly fans who always thought of the character as this way.
* ''Franchise/{{Tekken}}'':
** In ''[[DreamMatchGame Tekken Tag Tournament 2]]'', Jun Kazama (last seen in the original ''Tag'' and -- canonically speaking -- ''2'') [[TheBusCameBack returned as a playable character for the first time in over a decade]]. She's also the FinalBoss and, upon losing a round, goes OneWingedAngel and turns into Unknown (the boss of the original ''Tag'', who was implied to be a [[DemonicPossession demon-possessed]] Jun), finally confirming what was perhaps the biggest {{Epileptic Tree|s}} in the series. However, it's unknown if this is actually a case of [[AscendedFanon the devs going "Sure, why not?"]], seeing as the ''Tag'' games are set in a different continuity from the main games and Unknown was originally meant to be a different character entirely (according to [[WordOfGod the artbook for the sixth game]], she was supposed to be Jun's ''sister'', [[WhatCouldHaveBeen but this was dropped when the game became a spin-off]]). This does seem have bled into actual canon, though, as Jun's canonical return in ''VideoGame/Tekken8'' has her using what are essentially light-based variants of several of Unknown's new moves in ''Tag 2''.
** Years after ''VideoGame/Tekken5'' was released, [[WordOfGod director/producer Katsuhiro Harada's]] replies to questions asked by his Website/{{Twitter}} followers began calling previously established events into question: Kazuya was not the first person to make contact with Devil, nor was his grandfather Jinpachi (who was merely possessed by a similar demonic entity after he died), but Heihachi, who was confirmed to ''not'' have the Devil Gene, ''did'' know where it came from; Kazuya and Jin [[UnreliableExpositor simply came to the wrong conclusion]]. ''Tekken 6'' would further explain that Azazel (the game's FinalBoss) bestowed the Devil Gene upon the Mishima line, with Dr. Bosconovitch's ending in ''Tag 2'' showing that, out of the entire playable Mishima family, only Kazuya and Jin are carriers. Connecting the dots, several fans began to rationalize that this left only one person who could possibly be the Devil Gene originator: Kazumi Mishima, Kazuya's MissingMom. Come E3 2014 and the announcement of ''VideoGame/Tekken7'', [[NotSoSmallRole and...]]
* For ''VideoGame/TotalWarWarhammer'':
** Fans figured out the game was in development months before the official announcement due to both suspicion for years that CA would make a ''Warhammer'' themed game and the fact that they teamed up with Games Workshop to develop a game for one of GW's Intellectual Properties. A leak in an artbook was what sealed the deal.
** {{ZigZagged|Trope}} for ''VideoGame/TotalWarWarhammerIII'' - many fans expected that Cathay would be added into the game, in part due to the fact that Creative Assembley had plenty of experience with Chinese mythology and culture from working on ''VideoGame/TotalWarThreeKingdoms''. That being said, [[DidntSeeThatComing CA still managed to surprise everyone by making Cathay a playable faction]] '''''[[DidntSeeThatComing at launch]]'''''.
* ''VideoGame/TouhouFuujinrokuMountainOfFaith'' introduced Sanae, Stage 5 boss and BattleButler to the FinalBoss. Having noticed a pattern with previous similar characters (Sakuya and Youmu) and her inexplicable appearance in the next game, ''VideoGame/TouhouChireidenSubterraneanAnimism'', fans immediately declared that she would become playable and a major character for several games. Sure enough, she is playable in ''VideoGame/TouhouSeirensenUndefinedFantasticObject'', ''VideoGame/TouhouHisoutensokuChoudokyuuGinyoruNoNazoOOe'' and ''VideoGame/TouhouShinreibyouTenDesires''.
** On these very forums, people suggested that certain characters would be in ''Ten Desires''. [[spoiler:Yuyuko and Kogasa. They are -- Yuyuko as the Stage 1 boss, Kogasa as the Stage 3 midboss.]]
** Speaking of [[spoiler:Kogasa]], after her debut it became a joke that she would make surprise, inexplicable appearances in subsequent games due to how her powers worked. Guess who inexplicably showed up for ''Ten Desires''?
* Due to how fans speculate a lot of things in the ''VideoGame/TrailsSeries'', many players have these moments.
** In ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfHeroesTrailsOfColdSteel III'', absolutely no one was fooled that Azure Siegfried is a BackFromTheDead [[spoiler:Crow Armbrust]], despite the developers listing his Japanese voice actor as "?????" instead of [[Creator/TakahiroSakurai the usual]]. Even the characters in-game figure that detail out quickly and they even wonder how he's even alive when they all know he's dead. In fact, the only one who didn't know this detail [[spoiler:is ironically [[IdentityAmnesia Azure Siegfried]] himself.]]
** ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfHeroesTrailsIntoReverie'' has people guessing that the new protagonist, "C", is actually [[spoiler:Rufus Albarea, who was a major antagonist in the previous Erebonia arc.]]
** ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfHeroesTrailsThroughDaybreak'' has players guessing that Bergard Zeman is actually the former Eighth Dominion, Barkhorn who was only revealed in flashbacks and backstory throughout the series. Lo and behold, many people guessed it correctly with the only thing people not guessing correctly is that [[TheHero Van]] outright calls him out on why he faked his death.
* In ''VideoGame/TransformersWarForCybertron'', Optimus Prime goes to the core of Cybertron and ends up talking with a being in the core. While the credits only listed the being as "Core," many fans speculated that it was Primus, the ''Transformers'' version of God. ''WesternAnimation/TransformersPrime'' takes place in the same universe and during his recap of the events in "One Shall Rise, Part 3," Ratchet confirms that it was Primus Optimus talked to.
* ''VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles1'' has a retroactive example. Come the ending of ''VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles2'', fans immediately had a theory of where the missing Ontos core crystal ended up, though no hard evidence. Come the UpdatedRerelease ''Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition'', one character had a small but important tweak: [[spoiler:Alvis's necklace was changed to a red, cross-shaped Core Crystal]], all but solidifying their identity as Ontos, with ''VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles3FutureRedeemed'' three years later outright confirming it.
* After the release of ''The Burning Crusade'', some ''VideoGame/WorldOfWarcraft'' players theorized that M'uru's capture was actually [[spoiler:voluntary on his part, a {{plan}} to expose the blood elves to the Light as it truly is]]. Then patch 2.4.0 came out. Ouch!
** Similarly, lore fans cried "VARIAN WRYNN" the moment the ''World of Warcraft'' comic was revealed to have "an amnesiac hero who washes up on the shores of Kalimdor with great warrior skills whose origins he has no idea of." The theory was so widely accepted that many were sure the obvious hints were {{Red Herring}}s.
** Weeks before players actually got to kill the [[BigBad Lich King]], it was revealed that someone else needs to take his mantle, or [[ZombieApocalypse hell breaks loose]]. Bolvar Fordragon, who was well-alive and Arthas's prisoner at the time, was one of the first few guesses.
** Around the time of the first expansion, ''The Burning Crusade'', players theorized that the little-known kingdom of Gilneas (which had isolated itself from the rest of the world) had succumbed to the worgen curse, and this theory was often used to suggest playable worgen. Guess which race became playable in the third expansion, ''Cataclysm'', and guess which kingdom they're from. Possibly includes a dash of AscendedFanon since around the same time that the theories popped up, the folks at Creator/BlizzardEntertainment admitted that they had forgotten about Gilneas.
** In the End Time instance, the popular theory that [[spoiler:Nozdormu eventually becomes the leader of the Infinite Dragonflight, Murozond]] was confirmed.
** Two guys were cool enough to guess what was going to be in the ''Mists of Pandaria'' expansion. They detail everything they predicted [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFkurNxZHkM here.]]
