1[[quoteright:200:]]˛->''"I still think of myself as a stage actor. When I do film and television I try to implement what I was taught to do in theatre, to try to stretch into characters that are far from myself."''˛˛Anthony Marcus Shalhoub (born October 9, 1953 in Green Bay, Wisconsin) is a Lebanese-American actor best known for his work as a character actor in film and television. Born in Green Bay, Wisconsin, Shalhoub's acting career started as an extra in a high school production of ''Theatre/TheKingAndI'', and he instantly fell in love with acting. He later earned a bachelor's degree in drama from the University of Southern Maine, and a master's from the Yale School of Drama in 1980.˛˛He continued in theater productions such as ''Theatre/TheOddCouple'' and ''Theatre/ConversationsWithMyFather'', as well as bit parts in movies and television, but in 1991 he found a wider audience when he joined the regular cast of ''Series/{{Wings}}''. Since then he has enjoyed a solid status as That Guy You Recognize But Can't Name in dozens of smaller film and television roles, though his pseudo-anonymity arguably ended when he took the starring role in ''Series/{{Monk}}''. He has been nominated for and won a wide range of awards for his work, and has even lent his vocal talents to a handful of video games.˛----˛!!Films with Wiki/TVTropes pages:˛* ''Film/QuickChange'' (1990)˛* ''Film/BartonFink'' (1991)˛* ''Film/AddamsFamilyValues'' (1993)˛* ''Theatre/{{Gypsy}}'' (1993)˛* ''Film/SearchingForBobbyFischer'' (1993)˛* ''Film/{{IQ}}'' (1994)˛* ''Film/BigNight'' (1996)˛* ''Film/{{Gattaca}}'' (1997)˛* ''Film/MenInBlack'' (1997)˛* ''Film/ACivilAction'' (1998)˛* ''Film/TheImpostors'' (1998)˛* ''Film/TheSiege'' (1998)˛* ''Film/{{Paulie}}''˛* ''Film/PrimaryColors'' (1998)˛* ''Film/GalaxyQuest'' (1999)˛* ''Film/ThatChampionshipSeason'' (1999)˛* ''Film/Thir13enGhosts'' (2001)˛* ''[[Film/TheManWhoWasntThere2001 The Man Who Wasn't There]]'' (2001)˛* ''Film/SpyKids1'' (2001)˛* ''Film/{{Imposter}}'' (2002)˛* ''Film/MenInBlackII'' (2002)˛* ''Film/LifeOrSomethingLikeIt'' (2002)˛* ''Film/SpyKids2IslandOfLostDreams'' (2002)˛* ''Film/SpyKids3DGameOver'' (2003)˛* ''Film/PartyAnimals'' (2003)˛* ''Film/AgainstTheRopes'' (2004)˛* ''WesternAnimation/{{Cars}}'' (2006)˛* ''Film/FourteenOhEight'' (2007)˛* ''WesternAnimation/{{Cars 2}}'' (2011)˛* ''Film/TooBigToFail'' (2011)˛* ''Film/{{Five}}'' (2011)˛* ''Film/HemingwayAndGellhorn'' (2012)˛* ''Film/{{Movie 43}}'' (2013)˛* ''Film/PainAndGain'' (2013)˛* ''Film/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles2014'' (2014)˛* ''Film/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtlesOutOfTheShadows'' (2016)˛˛!!Television Series with Wiki/TVTropes pages:˛* ''Series/TheEqualizer''˛* ''Series/SpenserForHire''˛* ''Series/{{Monsters}}''˛* ''Series/{{Wings}}''˛* ''Series/{{Dinosaurs}}''˛* ''WesternAnimation/{{Gargoyles}}''˛* ''Series/TheXFiles''˛* ''Series/{{Frasier}}''˛* ''WesternAnimation/MenInBlackTheSeries'' (Season 1 only)˛* ''Series/AllyMcBeal''˛* ''Series/StarkRavingMad''˛* ''Series/MADtv''˛* ''Series/{{Monk}}''˛* ''Series/NurseJackie''˛* ''Series/TheBlacklist''˛* ''Series/BrainDead2016''˛* ''Series/TheMarvelousMrsMaisel''˛* ''WesternAnimation/MickeyAndTheRoadsterRacers''˛* ''WesternAnimation/ElenaOfAvalor''˛* ''WesternAnimation/CentralPark''˛˛!!Video Games with Wiki/TVTropes pages: ˛* ''VideoGame/{{Fallout}}''˛* ''VideoGame/{{Cars}}''˛* ''WesternAnimation/{{Cars 2}}''˛˛!Other shows with Wiki/TVTropes pages:˛* ''Series/FindingYourRoots'' AsHimself˛----˛!!Tropes associated with Tony Shalhoub:˛* TheEveryman: Tends to play quirky versions of this, especially since ''Series/{{Monk}}''.˛* HilariousInHindsight: His role as [[Series/StarkRavingMad Ian Stark]], a horror writer frustrated over his friend's neurotic and obsessive compulsive behaviour is ironic considering his later role as [[Series/{{Monk}} Adrian Monk]]. ˛* PlaysGreatEthnics: Shalhoub's Lebanese heritage has allowed him to play a wide range of AmbiguouslyBrown ethnicities, from a Vaguely Foreign immigrant taxi driver in ''Film/QuickChange'', to actual Lebanese in ''Film/TheSiege'', to Italian in ''Film/BigNight'' & ''Series/{{Wings}}'', to Vaguely Foreign With a Chinese Name in ''Film/GalaxyQuest''.˛----
