John Felix Anthony Cena (born April 23, 1977) is an American professional wrestler and actor. He debuted as a wrestler in 1999 and signed with Wrestling/{{WWE}} in 2001, leading to a long and prolific career and an all-American public image. For more on that, see [[Wrestling/JohnCena his dedicated wrestling page.]]

Cena had a short-lived rap career in 2005 with his album ''You Can't See Me''. He began his acting career in WWE productions ''Film/TheMarine'' and ''Film/TwelveRounds'' in the 2000s, and mostly appeared AsHimself in television guest spots during that decade. Besides the obvious action film roles given to wrestlers-turned-actors, in the 2010s he began to show a penchant for comedy, showing up in works like ''Film/Sisters2015'', ''Film/DaddysHome'', and ''Film/{{Blockers}}''. He's also done some voice acting as the titular role of ''WesternAnimation/{{Ferdinand}}''. He also hosted the reality TV shows ''Series/AmericanGrit'' and ''Series/{{Wipeout|2008}}'' (the 2021 revival).

In 2020, Cena was cast as the role of ComicBook/{{Peacemaker}} for Creator/JamesGunn's Franchise/DCExtendedUniverse film ''Film/TheSuicideSquad'', which premiered in 2021. He then led the character's titular SpinOff series ''Series/{{Peacemaker|2022}}'' for Creator/HBOMax.

!!Tropes about his career:
* AsHimself: Due to not becoming famous through acting, at the beginning he was often cast for quick guest appearances playing John Cena the wrestler, such as in ''Series/ExtremeMakeoverHomeEdition'' and ''Series/ParksAndRecreation''.
* TheHost: He hosted the reality TV show ''Series/AmericanGrit'' and is one of the co-hosts of the ''Series/Wipeout2008''.
* LeslieNielsenSyndrome: Outside of wrestling, Cena initially made an attempt at becoming an action star to mixed success. Then he played a LargeHam lunkhead in ''Film/{{Trainwreck}}'' and people discovered just how funny he was, resulting in his subsequently being cast in comedies instead.[[note]]Compare his guest appearance in ''Series/{{Psych}}'', during his action movie phase, where he played Ewan O'Hara as a typical hero role and his cameo in ''Psych: the Movie'' where he was much more animated and plays along with Sean and Gus' antics[[/note]].
* NiceGuy: If there is anything he is known for more than a wrestler, it's how nice a guy he is in real life. He's friendly and supportive of his friends, he is happy to give back to his fans, and is extremely kind-hearted, making more contributions to the Make-A-Wish foundation than any other single person in history.
* PlayingAgainstType: His film roles occasionally go against his wholesome public image (from wrestling):
** In ''WesternAnimation/RiseOfTheTeenageMutantNinjaTurtles'', he voices Baron Draxum, the main antagonist. He was also the original voice for another villain, [[WesternAnimation/GeneratorRex Hunter Cain]] before being replaced by Creator/JohnDiMaggio in his second appearance.
** Playing Vin Diesel's evil younger brother Jacob Toretto in ''Film/{{F9}}''. Though by the end of the film he performs a HeelFaceTurn and by ''Film/FastX'' he's become a more typical lighthearted ActionHeroBabysitter.
** Portraying a swear-happy, murderous, perverted and [[TestosteronePoisoning hyper-masculine]] {{Eagleland}}er Peacemaker in ''Film/TheSuicideSquad'' and ''Series/{{Peacemaker|2022}}''.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: Around the time of his wrestling debut Cena was auditioning for the voice role of, get this, [[WesternAnimation/KimPossible Ron Stoppable.]] Just think, if Creator/WillFriedle hadn't earned the spot modern wrestling might look very different.
