Cameron Bruce Crowe (born July 13, 1957) is an American director, screenwriter and producer.

He started out as a rock journalist for Magazine/RollingStone at the age of 15 in TheSeventies. While his colleagues at the magazine were indifferent to (if not contemptuous of) the HardRock, ProgressiveRock, and other popular music of the decade (including such groups/musicians as Music/JoniMitchell, Music/FleetwoodMac and Music/Eagles), Crowe was a fan of most of it, and was often the only journalist at the magazine willing or able to snare interviews with those bands/musicians.

Near the end of the decade, Crowe left the magazine and wrote Film/FastTimesAtRidgemontHigh, which became a film in 1982 (directed by Amy Heckerling). Dismissed at the time at being merely another teen sex comedy, it has since been VindicatedByHistory. After writing a sequel (1984's The Wild Life) which was nowhere near as successful commercially or critically, Crowe eventually turned to directing in 1989 with Film/SayAnything. He won an UsefulNotes/AcademyAward for Best Original Screenplay in 2000 for Film/AlmostFamous, which was based on his time at Rolling Stone.

Because of the many positive things he wrote about them during his time at Rolling Stone, Crowe has been allowed to use Music/LedZeppelin songs in quite a few of his movies.

!!Tropes associated with his work include:

* EarnYourHappyEnding: Except for Film/VanillaSky (which has a BittersweetEnding), all of Crowe's films qualify as this.
* HistoryRepeats: His latest film Aloha has an alarmingly similar plot to Film/Elizabethtown: A guy played by a hunky, of-the-moment actor screws up royally at his job, gets chewed out by Creator/AlecBaldwin, then goes to a picturesque location in order to make peace with his past and find himself with the help of a spunky blonde.
* ManicPixieDreamGirl: Film/Elizabethtown features the TropeNamer.
* ThePowerOfLove: Just about every movie he's directed runs on this trope.
* ThePowerOfRock: Obviously a big part of Film/AlmostFamous, but is heavily featured in other films he's done as well.
* SlidingScaleOfIdealismVersusCynicism: All of his films come out as idealistic, though they also show how tough it is to maintain that idealism. Best summed up by a line in Film/Singles, when one character tells another, "You're a realist/dreamer."
