''Sovereign Seven'' was a comic book series created by Creator/ChrisClaremont and Creator/DwayneTurner in 1995. It ran for 36 issues and two annuals.

The series was the first creator owned series for Creator/DCComics.

----
!!''Sovereign Seven'' contains examples of:

* ActionGirl:
** Every female member of the team, and the town sheriff, Molly Savoy.
** Even ComicBook/LoisLane gets a guest spot wielding Finale's armor and sword.
* AllJustADream: [[spoiler:At the end of the final issue, the whole series turns out to be a fictional comic book series drawn by a pair of female comic book writers and artists.]]
* AmbiguousGender: Indigo, who it is suggested could switch between male and female at will.
* BarrierWarrior: Rampart.
* BerserkButton:
** Network will bite, claw, scratch and kick like the devil if you even suggest making her psi-blind. Justified in that without her telepathic powers, she's unable to read, speak, or communicate.
** For Cascade, it's even suggesting that she's remotely like her mother, Matriesse.
** For Finale, it's the mere thought of getting wet. Believing she had made contact with water literally drove her berserk at one point.
* BigEater: Cruiser's telekinesis is fueled by his body mass.
* {{Bookends}}: [[spoiler:The series begins and ends with the phrase, ''"It was a dark and stormy night when Sovereign Seven came to town."]]''
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: Skin Dance's victims.
* {{Cernunnos}}: Cernunnos/Herne the Hunter show up in the woods around Crossroads, with the Sovereigns put in the role of TheWildHunt via MindControl.
* ContinuityNod: Several for the main DCU, including a RoadTripPlot to Gotham City during the Contagion Storyline, the events of Final Night took place during Network's turn as a FakeDefector, and the events of the Genesis storyline.
* {{Dedication}}: The first issue began with a dedication to the legendary Creator/JackKirby. The final issue ended with a dedication to the comic book writer Archie Goodwin.
* {{Excalibur}}: Excalibur shows up.
* EyepatchOfPower: In the final issue, a character sports an eyepatch that she previously hadn't worn. The Sovereigns assumed it was due to an injury in the close quarters fighting they were currently locked in. Turns out it was a gunsight for a KillSat.
* FakeDefector: Network pretends to be under the MindControl of the Chimera android, until she reveals that she's merely playing along to rescue an infant telepath from the organization's clutches. Her friends, however, do not take her actions very well; Cascade particularly is so hurt that she leaves the team for a while.
* KillSat: The Mir Space Station functions as one in the final issue.
* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler: Rampart]].
* LesYay:
** Cascade and Network's psychic rapport, until Network's turn as a FakeDefector against Shogun. Chimera's interactions with Network also has shades of this.
** In the ''ComicBook/LegendsOfTheDeadEarth'' Annual, it is revealed that Sheriff Molly Savoy was in a relationship with a [[TheLostLenore woman named Ruth, who was murdered in front of her.]]
* TheMagnificentSevenSamurai
* NeverLearnedToRead: Network. As a telepath, her "language" is based in imagery and not symbols or letters. It's been stated that without her telepathy, she would be incapable of learning spoken or written language.
* NeverLearnedToTalk: A strange case involving Network. She and her family are entirely telepathic, a mark of royalty in her world. As such, however, she never learned to speak and NeverLearnedToRead, or anything else for that matter. She is only able to do those things by using her psychic powers to piggyback off of the abilities of the people around her, and lives in mortal terror of being made "head-blind". When her abilities fail towards the end of the series, she's little better than an infant.
* ShoutOut:
** Crossroads has some interesting visitors. In the space of two issues we see [[ComicBook/XMen Wolverine, Kitty Pryde, Illyana, and an implied presence by Lockheed]].
** There's also a discussion between Crossroads' proprietors, Pansy and Violet, about whether or not [[Franchise/{{Highlander}} Connor or Duncan are better, only to be cheerfully greeted by their old friend, Ramirez.]]
** And likewise an argument as to whether [[Film/Batman1989 Michael]] or [[Film/BatmanForever Val]] is better...with a conclusion that [[Series/Batman1966 Adam]] beats both.
** And a [[Film/WolfMikeNichols man named Jack who turns into a wolf from time to time.]]
** A talking spider named [[Literature/CharlottesWeb Charlotte]] puts in an appearance.
** A man who bears a distinct resemblance to Jerry Garcia puts in an appearance as well.
* SuperSpeed: Reflex, who isn't quite as fast as Impulse (later Kid Flash), although he can dodge him much to the speedster's bewilderment.
* {{Telepathy}}: Network's primary power.
* WhatTheHellHero: Pretty much everyone's reaction to Network's FakeDefector stint. Network decided she couldn't let the others in on her scheme, for fear it would be discovered, and Cascade took it so hard, she actually left the team for a time.
