A large and very loud Scottish man, with a traditional Scottish claymore sword inscribed with magic runes and a submachine gun for a left leg. He's about as burly a warrior as you'll find, and one of the few creatures able to match Jack for combat prowess. Their initial meeting (based on the tale of Robin Hood and Little John's first encounter) resulted in a fight that went on for fifty hours, ''still'' without a clear victor, and it was all started because they met each other going different ways on a rope bridge that was too small for either of them to pass the other, and neither one of them wanted to go back the way they came (the bridge is so long it takes days to cross). Fortunately, the two buried the hatchet when circumstances forced them into TeethClenchedTeamwork, and the Scotsman became Jack's best friend and ally in the future.

He also has a wife, who is even more frightening than he is. Just don't tell that to her face.

He returns in Season 5. 50 years later, he's gotten much older, but managed to keep up the fight and raise a veritable '''army''' of daughters. Upon meeting Aku for the first time, the fight takes an unexpected turn that actually works in his favor.
----
* AbandonedCatchphrase: He doesn’t seem to tell someone to "shut it!" in season 5.
* {{Acrofatic}}: Despite being twice Jack's size (and MANY times his weight), he can easily match the samurai's speed. The two of them fought to a standstill... after three days.
* AmazinglyEmbarrassingParent: He acts this way towards his daughters, publicly shaming them for wearing revealing clothing instead of proper battle gear.
* AmazonChaser: {{Implied}}. He beams with pride when he sees his wife go OneWomanArmy on the Celtic Demon army. He also seems to hope Jack is one when he tries to hook him up with one of his many daughters.
* AntiHero: Quite a bit more unscrupulous than Jack, though he's still a good guy.
* BackForTheDead: [[spoiler:He reappears again in Season 5 during "Episode XCVI", where he's shown leading three armies on an attack against Aku's tower. The battle ends with him being killed by Aku. However... one minute after he's been killed, [[BackFromTheDead the Scotsman comes back as a spirit thanks to his sword's magical runes]].]]
* BackToBackBadasses: He and Jack do it every time they fight together.
* BadassBoast: He spits one out during his first confrontation with Jack, after the latter fails to break his sword.
-->'''Jack''': The Tremendous Horsecut Technique should have destroyed your sword!
-->'''Scotsman''': Magic runes, laddie! All them fancy moves will get you nowhere! Now quit your jumping around and get to fighting!
* BadassFamily: He's Jack's equal in combat and even in old age is pretty dang tough, his wife is even ''tougher'' than he is, and come Season 5 they have an entire and literal ''army'' of brawny daughters.
* BadassNormal: A human who became an enemy of Aku (somehow), took on Celtic Demons, and killed a trio of Sirens.
* BagOfHolding: His sporran (the pouch on his kilt) can hold all sorts of things. Bagpipes. Grenades. Enormous gold nuggets.
* BarbarianHero: He usually solves things with violence. However, that doesn't stop him from helping a friend in need.
* BarrierWarrior: During the FinalBattle, one of his ghost form's powers has him create a shield to block against Aku's barrage of spikes.
* BerserkButton: Do '''not''' screw with his bagpipes. He might turn your head into a flour sifter.
* BestFriendsInLaw: Subverted. When he meets Jack again for the first time in 50 years, he proudly offers the hand of one of his daughters to Jack in marriage. Jack politely declines, explaining that he's already in love with Ashi.
* BewareTheSillyOnes: When he's in a good mood, he's a goofy and over-excited guy, but do not hurt Jack, his best friend. You ''will'' die.
%%%% This is more than just size. It is also typically a team thing.
%%%%* TheBigGuy:
* BigShutUp: His CatchPhrase, "SHUT IT!"
* BilingualBonus: Slips into Scots during his insulting tirades.
* BirdsOfAFeather: His wife is just as {{boisterous|Bruiser}} ([[BruiserWithASoftCenter with an equally soft heart]]), {{fiery|Redhead}}, and [[BraveScot gutsy]] as he is.
* {{BFS}}: [[CoolSword A claymore with magic runes.]] He's rather proud of how big it is.
* BloodKnight: Unlike Jack, this guy ''adores'' violence. At one point he apologizes to Jack for 'spoiling his fun' by using a grenade to shorten a fight.
* BoisterousBruiser: Contrasting with Jack yet again is his enormously expressive demeanor when he fights.
* BraveScot:
** He fears ''nothing''. Well, except the Celtic Master of the Hunt. And his own wife when she's angry.
** [[spoiler:As shown in "Episode XCVI", he ''does not fear'' '''Aku'''. Despite having no actual means to hurt Aku or even survive his own inevitable demise, the Scotsman ''[[DidYouJustFlipOffCthulhu boldly insults Aku]] [[DoNotTauntCthulhu right in his face]]''.]]
* BreakoutCharacter: His popularity, along with being one of the only people capable of matching Jack, brought him back for three encore episodes in the original series, and a few episodes in the revival.
* BritishTeeth: He's technically Scottish but he still fulfills the stereotype with his discolored, different lengths teeth and the gaps.
* BruiserWithASoftCenter: He speaks about his wife in sickeningly sweet manner and openly cries when she's been kidnapped.
* BullyingADragon: [[spoiler:He gives one of his famous insult barrages to [[DidYouJustFlipOffCthulhu the dark lord Aku himself]]. Which gets him [[DoNotTauntCthulhu turned into a smoldering pile of ashes]]. {{Invoked|Trope}} that he's insulting him as a distraction to get his daughters to safety.]]
* CameBackStrong: [[spoiler:After he became a ghost, chances were that he wouldn't be able to fight like he used to. He comes back in the finale, using his bagpipes' MagicMusic to attack and counter Aku's attacks and even drive him back for a time, helping his allies]].
* CarpetOfVirility: His head is about the only body part not covered in hair.
* CharacterCatchphrase:
-->[[BigShutUp SHUT IT!]]
--> (when asked about how anything he does works out) CELTIC MAGIC/MAGIC RUNES!
* CharacterDevelopment: He initially started off as a barbaric madman who challenged Jack to a fight, because they were arguing over who should cross the bridge first, and forced him into a fight. However, after working together with him, the Scotsman shows a more friendly side, and is afterwards one of the more lovable characters... as long as he's in the right mood, that is.
* CoolOldGuy: He's still alive as of Season 5, and unlike Jack he's not only physically aged (putting him in his seventies at the very least), but is now [[HandicappedBadass wheelchair-bound and only has one eye]]. Despite being much weaker physically, he's still no less badass in personality however.
* CoolSword: A {{BFS}} with magical runes that grant it powers similar to Jack's. Because of the runes, it won't break like a normal sword could. [[spoiler:Too bad they lack the power to kill Aku (or, for that matter, keep it from being broken by Aku's eye beams), but said runes also allow him to come back as a spirit after he's vaporized by Aku. Additionally, said magic from the sword also empowered the Scotsman's spirit, giving him the ability to harm Aku with his music, Which means retroactively, his sword ''did'' have the power to harm Aku]].
* CrazyPrepared: [[spoiler:Evidently had the foresight to include {{Necromancer}} runes on his sword in order to invoke MyDeathIsOnlyTheBeginning if ever killed that not only revives him, but revives him in his ''prime''.]]
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: Initially comes off as a comical blowhard who will quickly topple after foolishly challenging Jack to a fight. He then proceeds to match Jack ''blow for blow'', reveals himself to have a magic sword that is equally as powerful as Jack's, holds his ground for ''three days'', and is second only to Jack on Aku's hit list.
* CurbStompBattle: When his opponent isn't Jack, the fight is guaranteed to end quickly.
* {{Cyborg}}: Having a weaponized prosthetic leg could make him count. He further upgrades himself along this route in 50 years to keep fighting despite his age.
* DeadpanSnarker: [[spoiler:After Jack turns down marriage to one of the Scotsman's many daughters, explaining he met someone already, the irony of Jack falling in love with what is effectively a female ''Aku'' is not lost on him.]]
-->[[spoiler:''...I don't think she's yer type, laddie.'']]
* DeathIsASlapOnTheWrist: [[spoiler:If anything, the Scotsman's ghost form is better suited for combat against Aku than his wheelchair bound body. He not only ''flies'' his daughters' cavalry to rescue Jack in the last episode, but shields him and the surviving army from Aku's devastating final attack with his magic bagpipes.]]
* DefeatMeansFriendship: He goes from an antagonistic bully to Jack's most trusted ally after an arduous fight.
* DefiantToTheEnd: [[spoiler:Dies doing what he does best; insulting Aku to his face, and laughing the whole way through.]]
* DentedIron: He may have been Jack's equal in combat, and the second-most wanted man in the world back in his heyday, but it's pretty clear that while he's certainly still going strong 50 years later, [[CoolOldGuy age has taken its toll on him]], [[HandicappedBadass and that he's simply not as capable as he was back in his prime]]. The fact that he's wheelchair-bound and needs the assistance of one of his daughters to move quickly, [[spoiler:as well as how quickly Aku eliminates him, drives that point home. Likewise, no matter how large or badass your army, that does little good against a NighInvulnerable EldritchAbomination that they have no means of actually harming.]]
* {{Determinator}}: Played for laughs. Unlike Jack, who eludes injury, he just suffers the AmusingInjuries and laughs at them.
* DidYouJustFlipOffCthulhu: [[spoiler:In his final moments, the Scotsman tells the immortal, invincible king of the world that he's a [[DirtyCoward pussy]]; to his face, at length. [[DoNotTauntCthulhu Aku murders him for it]] (more specifically because the Scotsman brought up Jack), but the Scotsman [[WorthIt regrets none of that]].]]
* DreadfulMusician: Subverted in his first appearance. He's shown to be quite skilled at playing the bagpipes, and the tune itself isn't unpleasant to listen to. The problem is the simple fact that it's [[EverythingsLouderWithBagpipes loud]] -- ''way'' too loud for Jack's taste. He invokes this in a later episode by deliberately playing a frenzied, ear-shattering tune to overpower the sirens' music, thus saving their enthralled victims. [[spoiler:Taken even further in the finale--as a spirit, his loud music can magically ward off Aku]].
* DyingMomentOfAwesome: [[spoiler: He dies doing what he does best; protecting his daughters and slagging off anyone within his radius. Specifically, he dies giving Aku a barrage of insults so his daughters can retreat safely.]]
* EmpoweredBadassNormal: While he is very much Jack's equal in strength and skill, he had an advantage with his machine gun leg that can also launch grenades. Furthermore, his claymore is able to stand up to Jack's divinely-crafted katana, due to possessing similar enchantments. [[spoiler:Lastly, dying turned him into a ghost, in his ghost form, he can fly, and use his bagpipes to play MagicMusic that allow him to create a sky road for his daughters to ride on, as well as act as a BarrierWarrior.]]
-->'''Scotsman:''' MAGIC RUNES, LADDIE!
* EverythingsLouderWithBagpipes: His EstablishingCharacterMoment.
-->'''The Scotsman:''' By the look on yer face, I can tell ye like the pipes, wee laddie!
* ExplosiveBreeder: He sired enough daughters to form a small legion within the army he's risen against Aku.
* EyepatchAfterTimeSkip: He and his kilt’s cat head-shaped sporran have eyepatches as of Season Five.
* FaceDeathWithDignity: [[spoiler:He probably knew Aku wouldn't spare him and didn't care.]]
* FailedASpotCheck: He somehow didn't notice his daughters',(in his view), inapproppriate attire, despite the fact that they must've traveled quite a ways to find Aku's lair, only finally catching on prior to their attack.
* FasterThanTheyLook: Even though he's broadly massive and barrel-chested he can be incredibly quick such as when he challenges Jack to a fight on a bridge, both swordsmen combat one another in BladeSpam and ended up coming to a standstill. He can also dodge in an incoming barrage of bullets and can jump rather high.
* FatBastard: He looks overweight, and is introduced as being very rude and temperamental. But he proves to be a JerkWithAHeartOfGold. On the other hand, if his skeleton is anything to go by, it could just be that he has a barrel chest.
* FieryRedhead: A red-headed BoisterousBruiser.
* FireForgedFriends: With Jack, whom he refers to as a brother.
* FloweryInsult: Gives one to Jack in their first encounter, though in Lowland Scots.
-->'''The Scotsman:''' Whaddaya think of that, Mr. Pajama-wearing, basket face, slipper wieldin', clype-dreep-bachle, gether-uping-blate-maw, bleathering gomreil, jessie oaf-looking stauner, nyaff plookie shan, milk drinkin', soy-faced shilpit, mim-moothed snivelin', worm-eyed, hotten-blaugh, vile-stoochie, cally-breek-tattie?
* {{Foil}}:
** To Jack. Both are {{master swordsm|an}}en, are wanted by Aku for some reason, have [[NoNameGiven no known real names]], and spend their time WalkingTheEarth. Jack is a stoic and level-headed man who wanders the world trying to find his way back home; the Scotsman is a boisterous and hot-tempered man who wanders to get some space from his rambunctious family and friends.
** To the High Priestess as a parent. Both of them conceived a large number of daughters, whom they trained as [[ActionGirl soldiers]]. But while [[AbusiveParents the Priestess]] feels no real love or kindness for her own children, [[GoodParents the Scotsman]] is obviously a very loyal and loving father to his own kids.
* ForceAndFinesse: The Force to Jack's Finesse. While both are {{Master Swords|man}}men, Jack is the faster, more skilled, and cunning of the two, while the Scotsman is stronger, tougher, and better with modern weaponry.
* FutureBadass: Shown to be one in the final issue of the comic series, as well as in Season 5, alongside the other FutureBadass Jack himself.
* GatlingGood: Upgrades his leg from a machine gun to a full gatling.
* GoodParents: Despite being embarrassing, the Scotsman is shown to be a loving father to his daughters. He immediately gets angry when Jack turns down his offer to marry one of them, assuming Jack thinks he's too good for his girls.
* GoodIsNotNice: In his case, it's downright rude.
* GoodIsNotSoft: The Scotsman is a good friend, but he's not afraid to use his sword and machine gun to protect the people he cares about.
* GoshDarnitToHeck: Swears like a sailor. He never uses any ''actual'' swears, instead relying on FloweryInsults, even in Season 5.
* HandicappedBadass: He's missing his left leg, but it doesn't slow him down. In fact, he's got a fully functional machine gun as a prosthesis! The TimeSkip has him now using a wheelchair and upgrading to a minigun leg, as well as wearing an eyepatch. [[spoiler:Deconstructed because in this greatly weakened state, he has no chance of escaping Aku alive.]]
* HappilyMarried: Inexplicable, but true! This is probably the reason why he wasn't affected by the Sirens' song. Season 5 later reveals that they conceived ''a lot'' of children.
* HenpeckedHusband: Hilariously enough, he is completely under the thumb of his wife, who is actually both bigger and stronger than he is, and whom he dotes on endlessly. That said, the two have a happy marriage.
* HeroOfAnotherStory: Aku wants to catch this guy almost as badly as he wants to catch Jack, suggesting that he's accomplished some pretty impressive feats offscreen. Considering his strength, it's hardly surprising.
* HeroicSacrifice: In the aftermath of his army's failed attack on Aku, the Scotsman [[spoiler:willingly stays behind to distract Aku from pursuing and annihilating his daughters, despite likely knowing it means certain death. Indeed, Aku vaporizes him for his insolence.]]
* HotBlooded: He's one of the wildest characters on the show, and is prone to shouting at the top of his lungs. He claims he's the mellow one of his clan, implying that the rest of his family is even ''more'' hot-blooded than he is.
* IncorruptiblePurePureness: An ... unconventional example. In Episode XLVI, when he finally meets the Sirens, he’s not even a little tempted by their hypnotic song and remains devoted to his wife. This arguably makes him more noble than Jack, as even the titular samurai couldn’t resist them.
* InASingleBound: Jack's not the only who can "jump good" as he too can also leap to greater heights and farther distances himself, although his jumping is likely inferior to Jack's jumping abilities since he cannot jump ''that'' high. Even Jack took his time to "politely" mock him for it while sitting on a branch no less.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He is an obnoxious, violent, bullying, rude, dimwitted braggart with a short fuse. But once you're his friend, there are no limits to his generosity and kindness.
* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler:Played with. Aku manages to vaporize him in "XCVI", reducing his body to a pile of ash. However, thanks to the Celtic magic in his sword, he immediately rises from the ashes as a ghost (and looking like his younger self, no less), signifying that he's "dead" but ''isn't'' gone for good.]]
* KnowWhenToFoldEm:
** In "Jack and the Scotsman Part 2", he seeks out Jack's help in rescuing his wife, explicitly because he knows that even he can't take on the entire army of Celtic demons by himself.
** In "Episode XCVI", [[spoiler:after seeing [[OneManArmy Aku]] [[CurbStompBattle effortlessly crush]] [[RedshirtArmy two-thirds of his army]] mere moments after entering the fray, he realizes that there's nothing to gain in continuing; and so he orders his daughters to retreat and fight another day, [[HeroicSacrifice while he stays back to hold Aku at bay]].]]
--->[[spoiler:'''The Scotsman:''' "[[LampshadeHanging You know what? This was a bad idea! Time to go girls!]]"]]
* TheLancer: In the few episodes where they appear together, the Scotsman serves as Jack's partner in adventuring.
* LargeHam:
** He's the second most-wanted man on the planet and will brag about it endlessly.
** In "Jack and the Scotsman Part II", he reveals that his clan are even more hammy than him. He doesn't stick around at home much because of that.
* LegCannon: A machine-gun! Doubles as GatlingGood, especially after being upgraded to a minigun.
* LightningBruiser: He's an {{Acrofatic}} heavy hitter.
* LikeCannotCutLike: Jack's sword fails to break his thanks to it having similar magical properties.
* MadeOfIron: Two robots bite him in both his arms - He just asks them if that's the best they can do.
* MagicMusic: [[spoiler: As a ghost, playing his bagpipes allows him to do all sorts of things, from creating a bridge through thin air for his daughters to ride across to generating powerful shockwaves that noticeably pain Aku.]]
* MakeSomeNoise: [[spoiler:After returning as a ghost, the Scotsman gains the ability to produce gigantic, powerful shockwaves by playing hard on his epic pipes, and they do have the power to ward off Aku.]]
* ManInAKilt: It's definitely not for fanservice.
* MasterSwordsman: He matches Jack blow for blow whenever they duel, with their first duel ending because both men were too exhausted to continue (after fighting nonstop for '''3 days''').
* MagicKnight: He's a strong, burly swordsman who gets more than a few benefits from Celtic magic.
* MusicalAssassin: He's used his bagpipes for combat several times, such as when he broke the Sirens' curse by playing them as loud as possible, and [[spoiler:fighting off Aku with Celtic magic-enhanced music]].
* MyDeathIsJustTheBeginning: [[spoiler:Allows himself to be killed by Aku... at which point he comes back from the grave as a ghost, allowing him to continue leading the resistance against Aku until Jack returns.]]
* NoAccountingForTaste: The Scotsman's wife is anything but beautiful, well-mannered, or the type of girl most men would want, yet he fell in love with her. To be fair, the Scotsman is hardly beautiful, well-mannered, or the type of guy most women would want either. That said, his attractive daughters indicate that his his wife and maybe himself were quite good looking back in the day.
* NobleMaleRoguishMale: The Roguish to Jack's Noble. The Scotsman is hot-tempered, rough-and-tumble, and obnoxious while Jack is calm, clean-cut, and polite.
* NoNameGiven: In part because Jack never asked his name. (In fact, the writers didn't bother naming his wife or his clan as well.) Interestingly, he never refers to Jack by his name either, he refers to him as "my friend" or "laddie" (he does in "The Scotsman Saves Jack" though, as well as in Season 5).
* NoodleIncident: It's never made clear how the Scotsman got to the position of "most wanted man on the planet" (before Jack came along). It's not a ''surprise'', mind you, considering he's every bit the MasterSwordsman Jack is (with a more aggressive approach), it's just not explained.
* NoSell:
** In "Scotsman Saves Jack Part II", an amnesic Jack, the Scotsman, and a bunch of pirates sail the ocean, only to come within range of the song of sirens. Everyone on the ship becomes hypnotized, except the Scotsman. Why? The fact is that the song of the siren enchants men due to how beautiful it is to their ears. The Scotsman thinks their singing is horrible and considers what could be his wife's annoying voice beauty to his ears.
** When a couple of robot alligators bite his arms, he chortles, "Is that the best ye can do!?"
** In his first encounter with Jack, Jack performs his iconic jump slash technique against the Scotsman and is baffled when the attack [[LikeCannotCutLike doesn't destroy his sword]].
** In his second appearance he's set on fire [[ItMakesSenseInContext by an exploding bar]]. He's more concerned with finishing his sentence than putting out the fire ''on his face''.
** [[spoiler:Hell, even in his death, he doesn't scream in pain or agony. One moment, he's there. The next, he's a skeleton. But coming back as a ghost, in the form of his youthful prime, and feeling great could also count as a No Sell, seeing as Aku utterly failed to rid himself of the Scotsman.]]
* NotAfraidToDie: [[spoiler:He shows '''zero fear''' before Aku executes him. Although knowing that he'd immediately return as a ghost seemed to help.]]
* NotTooDeadToSaveTheDay: [[spoiler:Thanks to the runes on his sword, he comes back as a ghost after Aku kills him (and returned to his prime on top of that).]]
* ObiWanMoment: [[spoiler:The Scotsman delivers a BadassBoast to Aku before getting struck down and bravely accepting his death. Fittingly, just like Obi-Wan, he comes back stronger as a spirit, complete with a blue glow]].
* OddFriendship: You couldn't find two people more different than him and Jack, yet he's overjoyed whenever they cross paths.
* OneHandedZweihander: Typically, a claymore is wielded with both hands, but the Scotsman's hands are huge enough that he can deftly swing his with one.
* OneManArmy: The more the merrier! Gives him a chance to use MoreDakka and explosives!
* OnlyFriend: Becomes this to Jack in his intro episode.
* OnlySaneMan: He claims to be the mellow one among his even more HotBlooded clan.
* OurGhostsAreDifferent: In Season 5, after [[spoiler:Aku kills him, the Scotsman immediately becomes a blue spirit thanks to the magical Celtic runes on his sword]].
* PapaWolf: Season 5 reveals that he became a proud father of ''many'' kids. [[spoiler:After their attack on Aku fails, he tells his daughters to run for their lives while [[HeroicSacrifice he distracts and holds off Aku]]. During the final assault against Aku, he angrily deflects Aku's arrow rain after his daughters shield them off. In a mild example, after introducing his daughters to Jack, he gives him his blessing to date one of them. When Jack politely declines, the Scotsman is enraged and assumes Jack thinks little of his daughters.]]
* PoliticallyIncorrectHero: Part of the Scotsman's famous 20-second insult to Jack includes "Soy Face", a remark about Jack being Asian. [[HaveAGayOldTime Though nowadays it could also be interpreted as an attack on his masculinity]]. Said insult also calls him a "Nyaff Plookie Shan", which is another remark on Jack being Asian, but also calling him ancient looking. This aspect of the Scotsman's personality is dropped by the end of the episode and all subsequent appearances.
* ThePowerOfLove: Implied to be the reason he's unaffected by the Sirens' singing: his wife already gives him all the lovin' he needs.
* ProudWarriorRaceGuys: The Scotsman's clan are also all a bunch of big, strong, and hot-headed warriors. Oddly, the Scotsman describes himself as being more ''mellow'' compared to his fellow clansmen.
* RunicMagic: His sword is etched with Celtic runes to give it supernatural sharpness and durability, allowing it to clash evenly with even Jack's blessed sword meant to slay Aku.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: [[spoiler:In "Episode XCVI", he gives an epic one to '''[[DidYouJustFlipOffCthulhu Aku]]''' of all people, calling him a coward for hiding in his lair in fear of Jack. What makes it so powerful is that it's a [[JerkassHasAPoint completely accurate description of Aku's personality in Season 5]]. Too bad it causes Aku to vaporise the Scotsman for his troubles, though the Scotsman knew what would happen anyway and made the most of it.]]
-->'''Scotsman:''' [[spoiler:"I might be old, but I've lived long enough t' see the world rise against yer tyranny. ''Admit it'', yeh big oaf! ''You're '''scared!'''''[[note]] And ''this'' gets a response out of Aku.[[/note]] The Samurai is still out there, inspirin' people by the thousands! After all these years, you're powerless against him! You've been shiverin' like a ''wee baby'' hidin' in yer crib, afraid to show yerself, 'cause you ''know'' he's out there -- and you can't do anything about it! ''*Gives a hearty guffaw*'' You're just a ''big baby! Why don't you go cry to yer mama?!''"]]
* RedOniBlueOni: The red to Jack's blue. The Scotsman is a BoisterousBruiser with [[LargeHam ham as large]] as [[{{BFS}} his sword]], unlike Jack, who is stoic and quiet. And his clan is even more hammy than he is!
* TheRival: Friendly competition defines his relationship with Jack.
* SacrificialLion: [[spoiler:In Season 5, the Scotsman gets murdered by [[BigBad Aku]] to prove that the Master of Darkness is still very dangerous.]]
* ShipperOnDeck: [[spoiler:When he and Jack finally meet again, he gives Jack his blessing to marry any of his daughters.]]
* ShippingTorpedo: Upon seeing Ashi, he tells Jack that he doesn't think she's his type. In fairness, [[spoiler:she was in her demon form and forcibly under Aku's commands while fighting his daughters]].
* SickeninglySweethearts: He and his wife. He loves her dearly and describes how beautiful her singing is when confronting the Sirens. While his wife is in a ''very'' bad mood when he and Jack rescue her, once she's calmed down she's just as affectionate towards him.
* StoutStrength: He's very wide and has torn apart tanks, smashed buildings, etc.
* StrongAndSkilled: Compared to Jack, who relies on several sword techniques and fast reflexes to overcome his opponent, the Scotsman simply attacks head on with everything he's got, shrugging off any attacks that hit him. He's still very skilled, mind you, the fact that he can continuously parry Jack's sword strikes for days on end proves this, he just prefers to use brute force as his strategy when fighting.
* SuperStrength: Shows off his unimaginable physical power in his debut episode where right after being freed from being handcuffed to Jack, he pursues a couple of the bounty hunters by carrying a tank and throws it right onto them, and headbutts several mechanical crocodiles, making them explode. Aside from using his Celtic sword, he's shown to put the hurt on anyone absolutely larger than him with nothing but brute force in Episode XLV where he sends a massive viking flying with 2 blows. The greatest example is where he just simply brings down the Tango Beast, who's a {{Kaiju}} -sized monstrosity, with a swift punch to the jaw and goes out of his way to drag his enormous body afterwards to show him by asking if he's seen the amnesia-induced Jack.
* StrippedToTheBone: [[spoiler:Aku burns the Scotsman until he's reduced to a skeleton, before it crumbles into dust]].
* StrongAndSkilled: While he might lean on brute force to overwhelm his enemies, the fact that he can fight Jack as an equal, capable of keeping up with the Samurai and parrying his every attack when they first met, would indicate that his brute force tactics are a matter of preference rather than a lack of training.
* SupportingLeader: In Season 5, [[spoiler:he managed to track down Aku's hideout and raise an army against him. When that didn't work, he decides to find Jack and raise an even bigger army.]]
%%%% Already covered by My Death Is Only The Beginning. This trope is for the end of plans, rather than a continuation.
%%%* Thanatos Gambit:
* TookALevelInBadass: [[spoiler:After dying, the Scotsman CameBackStrong in a big, big way. Sure, he's a ghost, but the raw Celtic power coursing through his spectral veins imbues him with the strength to ''repel Aku'' through his bagpipes, making him the one and only character besides the Old Gods and their ChosenOne to be able to ''do'' this.]]
* TookALevelInKindness: After becoming friends with Jack, he's a more straightforward hero.
* TopHeavyGuy: His upper body is disproportionately larger than his lower body. Case in point, he has HUGE muscles, but his legs lack muscles.
* TranquilFury: The one time his boisterous nature is broken is when Jack wordlessly runs his sword through the Scotsman's bagpipes. He very coldly states, "'''You've done it now,'''" before beginning the fight in earnest.
* TrueCompanions: In "The Scotsman Saves Jack", he dives headfirst into parts unknown all to help an amnesiac Jack get his memories back. He had nothing to gain by doing so, he simply did it out of loyalty to Jack.
* UglyGuyHotWife: {{Subverted|Trope}} ''big time''. Despite how much he gushes about her beauty, his wife turns out to be ''just as ugly'' as he is. Not that he cares, though, because she's still beautiful ''in his eyes''. This may have been true in their youth however, if his wife looked anything like their AmazonianBeauty daughters.
* TheUnreveal: It's never revealed how he ended up with a prosthetic machine gun leg. [[spoiler:Or why the heck he still has it when he's turned into a ghost aside from RuleOfCool.]]
* VagueAge: Unlike Jack, who is explicitly 25, we never get a confirmation as to how old he actually is. He could be anywhere from in his late 20's to his 40's.
* ViolentGlaswegian: He's a Scotsman and he's very loud and boisterous.
* WalkingTheEarth: Similar to Jack, he mentions in his second appearance that he spends most of his time away from home because the rest of his clan are ''more'' boisterous and loud than he is, and he enjoys the solitude.
* AWizardDidIt: He uses "Magic runes!" and "Celtic magic!" to explain his seemingly impossible accomplishments.
* WorfHadTheFlu: [[spoiler:Was killed by Aku fairly quickly, but he was also in his 70s at the absolute minimum and wheelchair bound, and thus nowhere ''near'' his prime where he fought Jack to a draw. At least until he came back from the dead.]]
* WorthyOpponent: He's Jack's. The feeling is mutual.
* WouldHitAGirl: Or would shoot them with a machine gun and blast them with grenades. Granted, these women were really demonic sirens who would kidnap and enslave men.
* XanatosGambit: What his failed assault on Aku turns out to be. Had it succeeded? Obviously good. But since [[spoiler:he dies]]? [[spoiler:One of his CoolSword's hidden abilities allows him to invoke CameBackStrong as a ghost, enabling him to continue leading LaResistance and try a better plan in the future]].
* YouShallNotPass: [[spoiler:He dies holding off Aku long enough to save his daughters. Though the magic of his sword allows him to return as a ghost.]]

[[caption-width-right:350:''"'''[[BerserkButton I'M NOT FAT]]''', '''''[[RageBreakingPoint I'M STOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUT!!!]]'''''"'']]
->Voiced by: Ruth Williamson

The beloved (and, usually loving) spouse of the Scotsman. A woman of considerable size and powerful moods, good and bad. When enraged, she becomes an elemental force of raw destruction (and insults).
----
* {{Acrofatic}}: Zig-Zagged. When she's introduced, she needs Jack's and the Scotsman's help in being rescued because she can't move around herself. She plays this trope straight when her BerserkButton is pressed two times, however.
* ActionGirl: When angered, she can turn into a badass OneWomanArmy.
* AffectionateNickname: The Scotsman gives her a variety of cute nicknames, such as "Muffin".
* AndCallHimGeorge: When she is introduced to Samurai Jack, she hugs him to the point that she smothers him with too much affection.
* BadassNormal: This human woman managed to take on an ''army'' of Celtic Demons along with their leader.
* BattleCry: '''"LA-LA-LA-LA-LA-LA-LA-LA-LA-LA-LA-LA-LAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!"'''
* BerserkButton: Refer to her size and you perish.
* BirdsOfAFeather: She is just as [[BoisterousBruiser boisterous]] ([[BruiserWithASoftCenter with an equally soft heart]]), [[FieryRedhead fiery]], and [[BraveScot gutsy]] as the Scotsman is.
* BorrowedCatchphrase: She tells the Scotsman to "SHUT IT!" He only responds with "yes, dear."
* BrawnHilda: She's so obese and unattractive, that only a man like her husband can call her beautiful. But her personality makes up for it (as long as she's in a good mood). Also she fights extremely well, surpassing even Jack and her husband, a trait that the Scotsman undoubtedly finds attractive.
* BruiserWithASoftCenter: While she can be unbelievably powerful and so destructive that she makes a hurricane look like a bad drizzle, in better circumstances she's very nice and dearly loves her husband [[SickeninglySweethearts (and she's not afraid to show it).]]
* CombatPragmatist: She uses a variety of dirty techniques when she annihilates the Celtic Demons, such as a two-finger eye gouge, and even biting down on them and yanking them apart.
* ComplainingAboutRescuesTheyDontLike: Might as well be the poster child for the trope. When her husband comes along with Jack to rescue her from the Celtic demons, all she does is nag, complain, and whine about every little thing they do. As a bonus, she does it so loudly, that any hope Jack and the Scotsman had of escaping via stealth is dashed. They are captured by the Celtic demon swarm, and had the lead Celtic demon not made the mistake of calling her [[BerserkButton "fat,"]] Jack and the Scotsman, who were being worn down by a massive ZergRush, would have been killed, and she would have been ''sacrificed''. Though that's assuming she wouldn't have gotten involved if things got serious, since the episode is mostly PlayedForLaughs, and the Scotsman and Jack never end up worse than ''slightly tired''.
* DamselOutOfDistress: She had to be rescued by Jack and the Scotsman, but was somehow still capable of destroying the same army that captured her and were about to defeat the two men. Why she couldn't (or wouldn't) save herself earlier is [[{{Headscratchers/Headscratchers}} is anyone's guess]], but it was likely due to the RuleOfFunny.
* DeadpanSnarker: She throws around sarcasm and sardonicism like no tomorrow.
* ExplosiveBreeder: She was capable of giving birth to about '''thirty-something''' daughters. It makes one wonder how stressful her multiple pregnancies were.
* EyeScream: Pokes several of the demons' eyes out.
* FatBitch: She's fatter than her husband, and has an even worse temper. Just don't ever mention her weight in front of her.
* FieryRedhead: Stereotypical Scottish temper.
* FloweryInsults: Even more skilled than her husband. She pelted her rescuers with nothing short of ''verbal castration!''
* FourFingeredHands: Has them despite her husband having five.
* {{Gonk}}: When she's revealed, it turns out that she's even bigger and uglier than her husband, and considerably more angry.
* GoodOldFisticuffs: Part of what makes her such an impressive fighter is that what her husband and Jack couldn't do with incredibly powerful enchanted swords, she does effortlessly while backed up by the power of UnstoppableRage. ''Barehanded''.
* GroinAttack: Responds to the Master of the Hunt calling her fat by punching him right in the clock schpiel.
* GroundPunch: She is so immensely strong that one punch from her causes a shockwave that turns an entire room full of demons into a hellscape that looks like the aftermath of a magnitude 9 earthquake.
* HairTriggerTemper: If you know what's good for you, do ''not'' make her angry. Hell, even her own husband is afraid of just the thought of angering her, and her husband is ''The Scotsman'', who is usually willing to stand up to anyone.
* HappilyMarried: Rarely shows it, but it's there. But we'll ''never'' understand it. Just look at the number of kids they have.
* InformedAbility: According to her husband -- who is [[SickeninglySweethearts hardly an impartial judge]] -- she sings "like an angel". Her voice isn't actually pleasant though. Then again, [[FridgeBrilliance considering what the Scotsman's idea of a "beautiful voice" is...]]
* InsistentTerminology: "I'm not fat! ''I'm stout''!"
* IWasQuiteALooker: She may be a full-on BrawnHilda when The Scotsman introduces her to Jack, but if her legion of [[AmazonianBeauty Amazonian Daughters]] is any indication, she was both massively strong and ''absolutely stunning'' in her youth.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: She's a stereotypically bitchy and nagging housewife, but still loves her husband. She also warms up to Jack, at least until he comments about her size.
* LightningBruiser: After the leader of the Celtic Demon robots called her fat, she rushed forward across the room and knocked the wind out of him faster than he could even finish his sentence. And after Jack accidentally implied she was too big to fit through the castle door, she was fast enough to actually make him worry while chasing him. The Scotsman implied that she could actually catch him, begging his wife not to hurt him when she does.
* NoNameGiven: Like her husband, her name is never brought up. That being said, the Scotsman DOES call her "Bonnie-lass" a couple of times, so it IS possible her name is Bonnie.
* OneWomanArmy:
** Defeated the whole drone army which Jack and The Scotsman, who are BackToBackBadasses, were not even able to defeat together with their swords!
** She is the one person who made [[OneManArmy Jack]], without a second thought, ''run away from a fight''. This is the same Jack who defeated hundreds of robots and entire armies of assassins with a few blade strokes.
* ShockwaveStomp: She can create one of these by punching the ground.
* ShoutOut: Maybe unintentional, but her final attack against the Celtic Demons - a massive punch towards the ground that creates a shockwave, destroying all the remaining demons, is reminiscient of [[VideoGame/FatalFury Terry Bogard's]] signature Power Geyser.
* {{Stout|Strength}} SuperStrength: She's even more of a powerhouse than her husband, who is already a match for [[OneManArmy Jack]]. When she gets angry, entire giant castles collapse in her wake. She doesn't even need a weapon to take out an entire demon army.
* TinyGuyHugeGirl: The Scotsman may be huge but she is ''bigger'' and ''taller'' than him.
* {{Tsundere}}: An interesting Western version of this. While irritated, she's even ruder and louder than her husband. When angry, PRAY TO GOD she gives you a quick death. However, in more pleasant circumstances, she's cheerful, kind, and polite.
* UnskilledButStrong: She may not have any special combat training, but she can pack a very powerful punch.
* UnstoppableRage: When calm or even annoyed, she displays no special abilities or strength, even saying that she can't walk because she stubbed her toe; but when properly enraged, she destroys the entire demon army holding her captive with her bare hands (and feet, and teeth, and forehead...)
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: Season 5 established that she birthed ''many'' offspring somewhere during the 50-year TimeSkip. But it's not confirmed if she had [[PosthumousCharacter died of old age]] by then, [[spoiler:or outlived her husband after Aku killed him]].
* WrestlerInAllOfUs: A few of her devastating attacks are wrestling moves, most notably an Elbow Drop that crushes a demon like a tin can.

[[folder:The Scotsman's Daughters]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/samurai_jack_57_scotsmans_daughters_flora.png]]
->Voiced by: Creator/GreyDeLisle (Flora)

The many offspring of the Scotsman and his Wife, whom he has trained as soldiers for a rebel army against Aku. Their names are Flora, Maeve, Isla, Bradana, Murdina, Alana, Oban, Ardbey, Fiona, Assie, Bonnie, Lorna, Mawina, Shona, Nora, Piesil, Shanath, Euspeth, Edme, Freya, Gilbartha, Gesha, Grizela, Innes, Dawntha, Cora, Davina, and Kina. And those are just the ones he named before Jack cut him off.

Flora is essentially the face and leader of the troupe of daughters, though there's no indication if she's the firstborn child. Nevertheless, she is the one who is closest to her father, wears a headband unique to her, and is the only one who says more than "Dad" [[AmazinglyEmbarrassingParent in an embarrassed tone]].
----
* {{Action Girl}}s: All of them are women, trained soldiers, and carry their own weapons.
* AmazonBrigade: Literally ''all'' the women in the rebel army are the daughters of the Scotsman and his wife.
* AmazonianBeauty: Despite being extremely tall and well-built, these girls are very busty and curvy.
* {{Brave Scot}}s: It's in the blood.
* CastOfSnowflakes: There's a ton of them, but each of them have their own faces, hair styles, and names.
* TheCavalry: [[spoiler: Show up in the middle of the battle to save Jack riding a herd of stags lead by a bagpiping spectral Scotsman.]]
* {{Good Counterpart}}s: They're this to the Daughters of Aku. Like them, they were trained as [[ActionGirl warriors]] by their respective parents. But while the Daughters of Aku were raised by an [[AbusiveParents abusive/unloving mother]] who was perfectly willing to send them out on what essentially amounted to a SuicideMission, the Daughters of the Scotsman obviously had a much happier upbringing with a father willing to [[HeroicSacrifice sacrifice himself for them]].
* HorseOfADifferentColor: They all ride in on stags during the final battle against Aku. They turn out to be very effective mounts, especially when one of them impales an Aku clone on its antlers.
* ImprobablyFemaleCast: The Scotsman and his wife's offspring are an exclusively female brood, all trained to fight like warriors. [[{{Irony}} This, after the Scotsman's clan was shown to be populated almost exclusively by men]].
* MassiveNumberedSiblings: There are no less than ''twenty nine'' of them. That is, twenty-nine of them that are ''named'' by their father prattling them off as a list before Jack cuts him off, there are definitely more on-screen. It's basically an ExaggeratedTrope.
* MinidressOfPower: Many of the girls are dressed with nothing more than shirts, corsets and kilts.
* OverlyLongGag:
** When the Scotsman introduces them to Jack, it takes him almost twenty full seconds to list them all (and that may not even be ''all'' of them, since Jack cuts him off at twenty seconds). One might need a dialogue transcript or a TV recording with the captions turned on to keep track of them being named in rapid sequence, or even understand their Celtic names at all (some of which are pretty challenging to pronounce), and coupled with the Scotsman's thick burr of an accent, good luck.
** The scene is also a CallBack, as the way he cheerfully lists off the names of his daughters is edited together in the same way he listed off a long list of colourful insults about Jack's dress and mannerisms when the two first met in "Jack and the Scotsman".
* {{Significant Green Eyed Redhead}}s: All the daughters have red hair and green eyes; in fact, the daughters all look pretty much identical, the only real differences being that their outfits differ in some ways, their hair is in varying shades of red and differing hairstyles.
* SingleSexOffspring: Exaggerated since all 29 are girls.
* StatuesqueStunner: They're very tall and very attractive.
* {{Stripperiffic}}: Their choices of outfit are way more revealing than of their male allies, who are all fully-armored. This trope is lampshaded by their father, who chastises them for going into battle like that.
* TakeUpMySword: Flora eventually took possession of the Scotsman's claymore [[spoiler:after he got killed, because obviously, a ghost can't wield any physical weapons anymore. Even though it got broken when Aku zapped the Scotsman with his EyeBeams, [[WreckedWeapon Flora used it anyway.]] It still has power, so why let it go to waste?]]
* UglyGuysHotDaughter: An entire legion of attractive warrior women. ''Where'' precisely they got their good looks is anyone's guess, as they definitely didn't inherit such from their parents ([[IWasQuiteALooker unless the Scotsman and his wife were both once good-looking at some point]]).
