When he absorbed the Grand Supreme Kai, though, said Kai's overwhelming goodness weakened Buu's power and made him more childlike and misguided rather than the crazy and omnicidal being he originally was. Eventually Buu was sealed away, then awakened by Babidi, Bibidi's doppelganger, many, many years later. The two work together for a time, but Buu eventually gets tired of Babidi's criticism and kills him before going on a rampage of his own. Mr. Satan, who initially was sent to kill him, against all odds befriends Buu. But an unfortunate incident releases the true evil side of Buu as a LiteralSplitPersonality, and it all goes downhill from there 'til he eventually reverts to his original and much more insane form. After blowing up the earth, Buu tears around the afterlife until a final battle between him, his GoodCounterpart Fat Buu, Goku, and Vegeta commences. After some back and forth, Goku manages to obliterate him using power donated by all the citizens of Earth focused into one [[CombinedEnergyAttack Spirit Bomb]]. But rather than be completely destroyed, he is reincarnated at Goku's wish as the human [[SdrawkcabAlias Uub]] who becomes Goku's pupil at the end of the series, while his surviving good side, Fat Buu, goes on to live with Hercule on Earth.²²Each of Buu's forms is effectively a different character with different abilities and personalities. They are each described below.²----²[[foldercontrol]]²²[[folder:General]]²* AchillesHeel: Buu's regeneration is [[FromASingleCell utterly ridiculous]]. But it does have one drawback- while he's regenerating from being blown apart, his disembodied pieces are defenseless. It was outright stated that even Piccolo could've completely wiped the disembodied pieces of Super Buu from existence in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber despite being orders of magnitude weaker than him,[[note]]He chastises himself for ''burning'' them instead of wiping them out; the former doesn't work since Buu can regenerate from smoke.[[/note]] and ''demonstrated'' in anime {{filler}} (for what it's worth) that [=SS2=] Vegeta and Goku can do the same. For opponents near or above his ki power, they don't even need to blow him apart him first; Vegito completely erased a piece of Gohan-Buu from existence with a small kiai and both Goku and Gotenks were stated to be capable of completely wiping out Kid Buu and Super Buu respectively with Kamehamehas at full power.[[note]]Unfortunately, both ran out of energy just before they could do so.[[/note]] The key seems to be to keep relentlessly attacking and never give him a break, because if you do, he'll be good as new in seconds.²** Buu's absorption technique has the same drawback. Again, the pieces he detaches from himself are remarkably easy to get rid of, as Vegito demonstrates when he erases Buu's detached head tentacle. This is why every time Buu ''does'' absorb someone, he has to plan it out ahead of time and distract his opponent, so the piece can take them off guard.²* AdaptationalWimp: Part of what made him so hard to kill is that he can regenerate FromASingleCell. In all video games, for gameplay reasons, he doesn't need to be that level of dead to die.²* AlienBlood: He bleeds purple.²* AmbiguousSituation: ²** Exactly how much knowledge and personality Buu gains from those he absorbs is ambiguous. On one hand, Super Buu mentions that he would gain Piccolo's "brain" when absorbing him, and he does indeed seem to gain additional knowledge after doing so (including memories of him training Gohan), but on the other [[TheDitz Fat Buu]] is remarkably dimwitted for having absorbed two intelligent gods. Adding to the ambiguity, while it's heavily implied that Fat Buu and Super Buu have their personalities modeled on twisted versions of the Grand Supreme Kai and South Supreme Kai respectively (as the pure, original Buu is little more than an animal, and those two Buus most resemble those two Kais respectively in body type), we don't know what either of ''them'' were like originally beyond the barest impression given by a {{filler}} flashback. How much of Super Buu and Fat Buu are the Kais, and how much of them are just Kid Buu's original personality with additional brain processing power added? The ''Super'' manga gives more credence to the idea that Fat Buu's personality was partially modeled on the Grand Supreme Kai's when Shin notes that he was a lax person and not very smart. ²** At the very least, we know that the fused Buus have all the knowledge ''of their previous incarnations'', as both Fat Buu and Super Buu know what their bodies are going through during transformations, and Super Buu recalls having met Gohan and Goku when he was still Fat Buu. ²** Whether Super Buu knew who [[RetCon Beerus]] was due to having the Kais inside him is also interesting to ponder (it's not like he'd have a reason to tell anyone if he did). On the one hand, Mr. Buu didn't know who Beerus was, hinting that Majin Buu in general lacked that information. On the other, Super Buu was shown to possess knowledge that Fat Buu didn't, such as how to sense ki, so it's not implausible that his nature as a SuperpoweredEvilSide lets him access additional ''memories'' on top of additional power. Supporting this is that Elder Kai said that Buu would absorb Kibito Kai if he found him (while he seemed happy to just kill Goku, who is stronger), hinting that Buu did take a special interest in the Kais for whatever reason, and that he would make his way to the World of the Kais after dealing with Gohan and Goku. If he ''did'' know, then his NearVillainVictory would look more deliberate on his part, since at the time he knows where Old Kai and Kibito Kai are (he had Gohan's memories by then), and would know that Beerus shares a life-link with them.²** Whether Goku could have actually beaten Fat Buu and ended Buu's whole arc prematurely. He ''says'' he could have, but immediately after doing so, he then claims that he can beat Kid Buu as well, only to fail due to underestimating [[AchillesHeel Super Saiyan 3's power drain.]] This is notably the second time in the arc where this form fails because of stamina loss.[[note]]Gotenks lost to Super Buu for the same reason despite possessing superior power, though in that case Buu also took some effort to hide and draw the fight out.[[/note]] Also, we see that Fat Buu can reasonably keep pace with Super Saiyan 3 Goku (neither were taking the fight very seriously, but Goku was still sweating bullets by the end of it) and [[CurbStompCushion Kid Buu]], on top of being a StoneWall of epic proportions thanks to his HealingFactor (''Beerus'' needs to hit him several times to keep him down, after one-shotting Goku [[CherryTapping with a karate chop]]). So it's plausible that he could simply have outlasted Goku in a fight the same way the other two Buus did. But we never do see them fight each other with lethal intent.²* AncientEvil: Even before his origin was changed, he was ''ancient''. With the reveal, he's one of the single most ancient entities in ''Dragon Ball'', being ''billions'' of years old. ²* AntagonistAbilities: On paper, Buu is pretty much a perfect fighting opponent. In addition to his extremely high power and energy levels, he has other abilities that make defeating him near-impossible. He can copy any ability he sees, he can absorb other people to grow stronger, he can split himself into new forms and grow stronger by culling his own weaknesses, he can take any shape he can think of and stretch/increase his size and mass, and in addition to being almost impossible to damage in the first place, he can regenerate back to full strength within seconds if [[FromASingleCell a small part of himself survives]]. Even worse, he has a pretty much UnblockableAttack that [[BalefulPolymorph transforms anything into anything else he chooses]], which can't be stopped even if you're stronger than him (although, Vegito does manage to still put up a fight after being transformed). The only true way to defeat him is through enough raw energy to destroy every trace of him, down to the smallest particle.²* ApocalypseHow: According to the Supreme Kai, Fat Buu and Kid Buu inflicted at least multiple versions of a Class X-2. The anime, which actually ''shows'' some of the rampage, clarifies this as a Class X-3, showing an entire galaxy being stripped of its stars (and presumably planets with them) over the course of some years. Super Buu at his strongest nearly causes a Class X-4 with his universe-destroying Vice Shout, and it is stated that any version of Buu would eventually cause a Class X-4 if left to rampage for long enough.²* ArchEnemy:²** To Supreme Kai, who holds the most hatred towards Majin Buu and has the most personal connection than any other character. Buu murdered/absorbed all of his mentors and friends during his first rampage a few millenia ago. Ever since, Supreme Kai has dedicated all of his efforts to prevent Buu from ever being released again, and feels directly responsible when he fails.²** To Goten and Trunks, as well as Gotenks, who was created specifically to be an opponent for Buu. The boys trained endlessly to match Buu, angry at him for killing Vegeta, Gohan (who they mistakenly believed was dead at the time), and Chi-Chi (who Goten saw Buu murder right in front of his eyes). Things escalate 100-fold when Buu eats all of their friends and family on the Lookout while they were trapped in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. From this point on Gotenks stops messing around and becomes determined to make Buu pay. Similarly Buu recognizes Gotenks as his first true opponent.²** To Goku, who was brought back to life to fight against Buu after he killed all of Goku's friends and family. And eventually blew up the Earth and many planets. While Fat Buu turned good, it was Super Buu and then Kid Buu that really got under Goku's skin. Before killing him, Goku wished for Kid Buu to be reborn as a good guy so they can have a good, clean fight; and 10 years later, Kid Buu was reincarnated to Uub and eventually became Goku's apprentice.²** To Vegito. Much like Gotenks, he was born for the sole purpose of facing Buu, after the monster killed/absorbed all of his family and friends. Vegito is also the one opponent who Buu has never been able to beat, and completely dominates Buu. As a result Buu hates Vegito with a burning passion.²* ArcVillain: After he kills Babidi he becomes a menacing villain on his own.²* AsleepForDays: In ''Super'', Mr. Buu has a habit of falling asleep for months, due to him averting his hibernation. This is a problem as he keeps falling asleep when the heroes need him, such as when Frieza invaded the Earth or during both the U6 Tournament and the Tournament of Power.²* TheAssimilator: Buu's defining trait as a villain. Once he encounters a stronger opponent he absorbs them into himself, adding their power to his and taking on their abilities, their knowledge, memories and even certain aspects of their identity. This can make for a very unnerving fight (as Gohan finds once Buu absorbs his old mentor Piccolo), but can also work to the heroes' advantage (Buu became much less malevolent and dangerous, and lost some of his raw power when the original Buu absorbed the peaceful, benevolent Grand Supreme Kai, becoming Fat Buu). Like Cell before him, Buu has two methods for doing this: the first, which is how he absorbs Gohan, Gotenks and Piccolo is simply using a severed part of his body to completely engulf the victim, and then having that chunk of Buu-goo remerge with him. The second method (which is how Evil Buu absorbs Good Buu) is turning the victim into a piece of candy and ''eating'' them.²* AssimilationBackfire: As noted, absorbing the benevolent Grand Supreme Kai severely handicapped him thanks to the Kai's inherent goodness. Also when Super Buu absorb Gotenks, he became much more powerful, but when Gotenks's FusionDance wears off after its 30 minute time limit, Super Buu reverted as well, once again becoming weaker than Ultimate Gohan.²* AwesomenessByAnalysis: Buu's actually smarter than he seems. He can instantly master attacks after seeing them done once. Heck, he instantly pulled off a pretty impressive Kamehameha in the same fight with Goku that introduced him to it (put things into perspective, Goku's a martial arts genius, and his first Kamehameha was hardly strong enough to dent a car).²* AxCrazy: All his forms, taken to OmnicidalManiac extremes. Every time he transforms into a new form, he becomes progressively more evil and psychopathic. When he got to his "final", original form, he was at the point where he just blows up planets without a second thought. While his Power Level as Kid Buu is the subject of much debate among Dragon Ball fans, everyone can agree that said form was definitely the most Ax Crazy. To put it in perspective, the first thing he did after reverting to Kid Buu was try to blow up the planet he is on. When he was foiled, he just made the next shot ''ten times bigger'' just so ''he wouldn't miss''.²* BerserkButton: ²** Taking away his sweets is a universal one for Buu, regardless of which version you're doing it to.²** For at least two of his three incarnations: calling him stupid. Dabura, Babidi, and Vegeta angered Fat Buu by calling him a "moron" and "idiot", while Gohan caused Super Buu to fly into a rage when he called him a "retard." They all came to regret it.²* BewareTheSillyOnes: Yes, Buu looks like pink chewing gum, is obsessed with sweets, and is the most childish villain in the series. He is also one of the most dangerous creatures in existence and was the undisputed strongest being in the universe for ''billions'' of years (not counting Beerus and Whis, that is.) At his worst, he could destroy galaxies in under an hour. ²* BigBad: The final one for the manga and ''Z'' anime. Fat Buu did become good, while his other forms Super Buu and Kid Buu take on the role. Buu's story, including the introduction with NoAntagonist and the sections where Babidi is an ArcVillain [[GreaterScopeVillain trying to summon him]], is by far the single longest single arc in all of Dragon Ball- lasting a whopping 7 volumes (98 chapters) in the manga and 96 episodes in the original anime (69 in ''Kai'').²* BizarreAlienBiology: Buu is basically a [[BlobMonster pink, gelatinous mass]], presumably magical in nature, that naturally structures itself in the form of a humanoid. He can manipulate his body in various ways, allowing for regeneration, shapeshifting, stretching limbs, etc., but he rarely reverts to an actual blob form. When he does, it's mostly to envelop and absorb people into his body, which is shown to contain its own interior pocket dimension, as seen when Vegito is absorbed inside of it and rescues the other Z Fighters that Super Buu had absorbed. In GT, Buu's unique physiology allows him and Mr. Satan to avoid being possessed by Baby's mind controlling eggs (Buu by simply ejecting it from his body, and Mr. Satan by ''hiding inside of Buu''). ²** A subtle element of his biology that not many notice on a first glance- his head tentacle's default length is directly proportionate to his strength. Fat Buu and Kid Buu both have [[https://i.imgur.com/OVAsfqm.jpg very]] [[https://i.imgur.com/imuDuZN.jpg small]] head tentacles. Base Super Buu has a head tentacle that's much longer in both absolute terms (as Super Buu is around twice Kid Buu's height) and relative terms, [[https://i.imgur.com/0iw1wLF.jpg reaching past his shoulders]] [[https://i.imgur.com/VULWINh.jpg to his upper back.]] The form Buu took after absorbing the Southern Supreme Kai, which is acknowledged as stronger than base Super Buu, has a head tentacle that [[https://i.imgur.com/SMMIAd7.jpg stops at his waist.]] Finally, the head tentacle on Gotenks-Buu [[https://i.imgur.com/89mBCEy.jpg goes past his knees]] while Gohan-Buu's [[https://i.imgur.com/Opt7Jbf.jpg is slightly longer than even that and almost reaches his feet.]] This extends to ''Super'', as after Good Buu trains for a couple hours, his tentacle [[https://i.imgur.com/SjMnj5w.jpg gets longer.]]²* BlackEyesOfCrazy: All his forms except Fat Buu.²* BlindIdiotTranslation: Two major cases of this were responsible for much of the confusion on which of Buu's forms was the strongest.²** One, the anime (both original and the various dubs), as well as an early fan-made English translation of the manga, has Old Kai stating that absorbing the Grand Supreme Kai and South Supreme Kai "weakened" Buu, when the original manga's text was more about them making him docile. The official Viz English translation of the manga fixes this: instead, Old Kai says "so the souls he ate '''tamed''' him", with no reference to power. ²** Two, when Buu returns to his pure, original form (Kid Buu), Kibito Kai tells Old Kai the story of his origin. After this, Old Kai asks if the Buu standing before them is the "original, most troublesome Buu", and Kibito Kai confirms that it is. The anime, as well as some non-English translations of the manga, change that to "the original, most powerful Buu", or the "original, most dangerous Buu." While the latter is more accurate than the first, both are incorrect. The exact word used is 厄介/''yakkai'', which literally means troublesome, bothersome, burdensome, annoying, or tiresome. As in, the one who caused the most trouble/burden/annoyance/etc. Considering the exact wording and context, this is much more likely to be a reference to the fact that this form of Buu, as the ''original'' incarnation, is the form Buu was in during most of his initial rampage millions of years ago (including when he disrupted the cosmic order by killing several gods), rather than being any reference to how strong or dangerous he is. ²* BloodKnight: As Super Buu and to a lesser extent Fat Buu. The desire to fight strong warriors was the only thing keeping them from destroying the Earth. As for Kid Buu, he ''just didn't care.'' That's not to say Kid Buu didn't have the desire to fight strong warriors, just that it no longer conflicted with his desire to destroy everything else.²* BookDumb: Every incarnation of Buu lacks common sense and knowledge. Fat Buu needs explanations on some unusual terms, while Super Buu doesn't know what a minute is.²* BornWinner: He's a SuperpowerLotteryWinner like no other in the series. He can regenerate from vapors, learn techniques from just seeing them once, can become stronger by absorbing other people. It takes the energy of an entire planet with billions of people and a wish on the Dragon Balls to put him down.²* BouncingBattler: Majin Buu becomes this when he performs his ball attack.²* BreathWeapon: As Fat Buu demonstrates, he can exhale a magic/ki-based blast of energy capable of vaporizing a city.²* TheBrute: Unlike [[CulturedBadass Frieza]] or Cell, he is merely a force of brute strength, who uses little brain power and quick to anger. As Super Buu, his desire to fight a strong enemy [[KillEmAll leads to some staggering feats of impatience]], but also displayed surprising cunning. Though, Buu is a quick learner and adopts his enemies' techniques after [[PowerCopying watching them once]] or absorbing them.²* ChallengeSeeker: All forms of Majin Buu are this to some extent. Fat Buu doesn't destroy the Earth because Goku promised him a challenging fight in three days. Super Buu demands the challenger sooner, and keeps Gohan around after absorbing Gotenks and Piccolo so he can test his new power. Kid Buu fights Goku, Vegeta, and Fat Buu instead of nuking the planet like he did to the Earth because he was having fun fighting them.²* ComboPlatterPowers: Buu have several sets of {{Story Breaker Power}}s that makes him close to invincible. He can regenerate from vapors, which completely blows Cell's regeneration out of the water, can grow stronger from absorbing other people, taking their power and techniques into his own being, and has a beam that can change objects or people into anything he choses. This is on top of him being extremely powerful and was the strongest thing in existence for ''billions'' of years.²* CombatSadomasochist: For whatever reason, Buu ''enjoys'' being hit by attacks, trusting in his HealingFactor to let him shrug off whatever damage anybody inflicts on him. This is made most explicit when Fat Buu fights Basil in the Super Universe Tournament, where he spends the first minute or so of the fight letting Basil beat him up without even trying to fight back before laughing it off, literally describing it as playing in the subbed version. He continues to let Basil pummel him afterwards... until Mr. Satan gets hurt. [[BerserkButton Then Buu's not in a playing mood anymore.]]²* ContrastingSequelAntagonist:²** Unlike Frieza, an alien prodigy from birth, and Cell, who was created using the DNA of everyone and explicitly engineered to be a perfect being, Majin Buu is magical in origin as opposed to the sci-fi roots of previous Z villains (technically Buu is still an alien as he comes from space, but this is hardly relevant). This is especially true in later years were his backstory was retconned to make his true origin completely unknown, and make him more of a EldritchAbomination.²** Frieza was the leader of his own empire, Majin Buu was TheDragon to Bibidi and Babidi before turning on the latter.²** Cell was patient enough to wait days for a WorthyOpponent, while Super Buu has no such patience, and can not even bother to wait a single hour. ²** Frieza and Cell were both FauxAffablyEvil, while Buu is a PsychopathicManChild who doesn't know better, or a chaotic beast that just wants destruction for the sake of destruction. [[note]]Though Super Buu does become more FauxAffablyEvil once he starts absorbing people.[[/note]] ²** Lastly, compared with both Frieza and Cell, [[HeelFaceTurn Buu gets redeemed]], either by the help of someone who taught him better, or by being reborn into an innocent individual.²* DetachmentCombat: He can control any part of his body whether attached or not, and shape it as he pleases. Fat Buu used a chunk of his stomach to restrain Vegeta, Super Buu uses pieces of himself to absorb foes (and used Fat Buu's trick at one point), and Kid Buu ripped off his arm so he could turn it into a guided missile.²* DragonInChief: Starts off as one after killing Dabura. Nobody gives a shit about Babidi after he shows up. Unfortunately for Babidi, [[TheDogBitesBack Buu joins that list.]] Fat Buu lampshades this earlier when Babidi threatens to reseal him before fighting Goku, Buu points out that Babidi would be defenseless if he tried. Lucky for Babidi, at that moment, Buu was more interested in fighting Goku.²* DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu: This guy killed all but two of the universe's highest gods, and actually absorbed South Supreme Kai and Grand Supreme Kai, the former of which was the strongest of the Kais by far.²* TheDreaded: ²** The gods fear him and for good reason. He wipes out all life on Earth and after becoming Kid Buu he destroys several planets including Earth by abusing his regeneration and his newly acquired teleportation technique. Goku outright says that Buu can destroy a galaxy in less than an hour. The minute Buu is awakened, everyone crosses one GodzillaThreshold after another trying to stop him.²** In ''Resurrection 'F''' Frieza says that there were two beings that he was supposed to never mess with: Majin Buu and Beerus. Goku killing Buu is one of the many reasons why the remains of Frieza's empire stayed far away from Earth. By his own admission, he didn't feel confident in taking on someone who beat Buu until he had his GoldenSuperMode, despite the massive strides he made in just his regular state.²** In chapter 16 of the ''Super'' manga, it's revealed that even Zamasu of Universe 10 knew who Buu was (and was impressed that someone in Universe 7 defeated him), indicating that he's infamous throughout the multiverse. ²* DumbassNoMore: Majin Buu is a slow-witted villain. After transforming into Super Buu, he gains an intelligence boost to some degree, but is still prone to impulsive acts and is lacking in patience and human emotion or mannerisms. However, after getting thrashed by Gohan, he manages to come up with a plan and absorb Piccolo (one of the most intelligent characters in the series) and Gotenks (a character at least his equal in power) into his body. After that, he becomes a GeniusBruiser, starts playing mindgames (the Funimation dub adds emotional torment to this) on his opponents, having backup plans, and overall being a ruder version of Cell, boosted even further after absorbing Gohan himself. And then he inverts the trope, being forcibly downgraded into his Kid Buu form. His original form, he is like a very young child, unrestrained and his most dangerous form.²* EldritchAbomination: While it was originally believed Bibidi created him, it has since been stated he simply ''woke him up''. Majin Buu has existed "since time immemorial", and nobody, ''nobody'' knows how or where he came from, and there is not the slightest thing even remotely like him anywhere in the known universe. Considering his original form is the AxCrazy Pure or "Kid" Buu, the universe's only saving grace until he was sealed and landed on Earth were probably his sizable hibernation periods. Just to be clear, this thing was pretty much the strongest being in existence for '''billions of years'''.²* EldritchLocation: The inside of his body is one. An entire race of intelligent worm creatures even exists there according to anime filler.²* EnemyWithout: Fat Buu and Evil Buu, the latter of which later reverted straight back to Kid Buu.²* EvilCounterpart:²** Evil/Kid Buu to Fat Buu after he makes his HeelFaceTurn. They are both the evil that lies within Fat Buu. They also inherit most of his power since Buu is originally an evil, chaotic being who became tame and weakened by absorbing the Kais.²** All Buu forms to Goku. They love [[BloodKnight fighting]] and [[BigEater food]] above all else, learn techniques from just seeing them once, are [[ManChild man children]] who are smarter than people give them credit for, can be playful and goofy while beating on someone, and are consider to be the most powerful and dangerous beings in the universe. Buu (at least in the cases of Super/Kid Buu) is an entity who doesn't care about anything besides itself and destroys and kills for fun.²* FinalBoss: As a whole, Majin Buu is the very last villain of the manga and the ''Dragon Ball Z'' anime.²* FluffyTheTerrible: The most powerful and evilest being in the universe is named Buu. In the Japanese text, several characters say it [[ToiletHumor sounds like a fart]].²* FreudianTrio: The three primary forms of Buu seen in ''Z'' — Fat, Super and Pure/“Kid” — can be equated to representing Superego, Ego and Id respectively. Fat Buu may be foolish and naive, but he manages to form his own sense of logic and morality with help from Mr. Satan and assimilates into human society (sort of). Kid Buu is pure, untamed Id with no capacity for reason. Super Buu mixes the two, as he is somewhat intelligent (especially after absorbing Piccolo) and retains a sense of compassion for Mr. Satan but otherwise selfishly indulges his destructive impulses.²* FromASingleCell: UpToEleven with Majin Buu being capable of reforming from single ''molecules.'' Being magically empowered instead of biological justifies this. So long as ''any'' piece of him exists in any way, shape, or form, he'll reform with varying speeds. Nothing short of complete destruction of his entire physical being will put him down. In the anime, however, Super Buu's regeneration slows down as he gets his ass kicked over and over again by Vegito, to the point where he didn't even notice that he still had a hole in his chest until Vegito pointed it out.²* FunPersonified: Buu is a rare evil example. He is by far the most goofy villain in the entire series. He is like a five year old with the power of a god. The fact that he looks like mutated bubblegum and has a beam that can turn people into candy and cookies really highlights this aspect of his personality. Despite all this, he is the most dangerous villain in all of the manga and the ''Z'' anime, especially his pure, original form.²* FusionDance: Fat Buu is a fused being that only exist because Kid Buu absorbed two of the Supreme Kais. Super Buu is a fusion of Fat Buu and Kid Buu in a sense since Evil Buu is the evil within Majin Buu. When Fat Buu is freed from Super Buu's body he returns to his original form. ²* GoneHorriblyRight: Going by the flashback for Kid Buu's summoning and Buu's overall backstory, Bibidi summoned Buu to destroy everything so he could dominate over existence. Bibidi at least got that first part right, though he didn't stop to consider how he, a weak magic user, could hope to reliably control such a force. Bibidi eventually resorted to just sealing Buu and dropping him on target worlds like a bomb, a tactic which allows the Kais to stop him. Babidi, nowhere near as smart, just tried to be a bully and earned himself a messy death.²* GoodPowersBadPeople: Thanks to absorbing the Kais, Buu gains the ability to heal people from mortal and even fatal injuries. His healing power far surpasses Dende's ability since he can restore limbs and birth defects, best seen where he regenerates Babidi who was split in half by Piccolo and when he gives sight to a boy who has been blind since birth. This trope is eventually {{Subverted}} after Fat Buu makes his HeelFaceTurn and we never see Super or Kid Buu heal anyone. ²* HairTriggerTemper[=/=]MoodSwinger: To an extreme extent: he can snap from calm, inquisitive or cheerful to a towering temper or a malevolent vindictiveness and back again with terrifying speed given the power he has. This makes his rampages as Fat Buu all the more disturbing, and as Super Buu it makes him nothing less than an unchecked time bomb. Keeping him calm until the heroes have someone to deal with him is a major plot point.²* HeroKiller: He murdered or caused the deaths of nearly the entire cast, the entire human population, and blew up the Earth, the latter being something no villain had ever succeeded at prior. Not to mention numerous planets after that. He also pops the death cherry of the handful of characters who've managed to stay alive the whole series. [[note]]Gohan, Bulma, Chi-Chi, the Ox King, Puar, Karin, Oolong, Android 18, Yajirobe and Mr. Popo.[[/note]]²* HorrifyingTheHorror: Majin Buu managed to scare the crap out of [[EvilOverlord Freeza]] and [[TheManBehindTheMan King Cold]] by ''merely existing!''²* HumanoidAbomination: Buu is an [[TimeAbyss incalculably ancient]] PhysicalGod capable of absorbing/devouring gods, regenerating from molecules and tearing through the dimensional planes, but is humanoid in form.²* ImplacableMan: Buu is relentless both physically and [[{{Determinator}} mentally]] when he's on the warpath, he's capable of absorbing his opponents should they prove too difficult for him, (which not only takes them out of the fight instantly but gives him a hell of a power boost) and while he can be hurt quite easily, [[HealingFactor it's nothing permanent.]] To make matters worse, only completely annihilating every single trace of his physical being to the point of nonexistence will guarantee his demise. Upon his release he successfully managed to completely steamroll several of the Z-Fighters' heaviest hitters without breaking much of a sweat. He was so powerful that the heroes could only stall him until they found someone who could actually pull off the arduous task of killing him.²* InexplicablyAwesome: He's as old as the universe itself and ''no one'' knows where he came from or why he is so strong. WordOfGod is that he became what we know as "pure" or "kid" Buu from absorbing the evils of early humanity over a prolonged time period.²* InstantExpert: All versions of Buu can copy any technique that they see even once, a reminder that Buu is [[ObfuscatingStupidity no where near as stupid as he appears to be.]]²* JabbaTableManners: Made worse by the fact that when he turns his victims to candy, they are ''still alive and conscious'' as he noisily chews on them.²* TheJuggernaut: Buu's main strength in every form is that he has the consistency of old chewing gum with an incredible HealingFactor. Seriously hurting him is a feat unto itself, and the only way to kill him in any incarnation is by disintegration through overwhelming force.²* LackOfEmpathy: Each incarnation of Buu provides different takes on this trope. Fat Buu genuinely doesn't know any better due to his childlike demeanor and gradually learns empathy through Mr. Satan and Bee, while Kid Buu is simply too mindless to comprehend ''anything'' other than destruction. Super Buu, on the other hand, is sentient enough to know that he's inflicting harm on others and evil enough to not care and enjoy it anyway. ²* LightningBruiser: Especially Kid Buu, but Fat Buu and Super Buu are very fast despite their statures.²* LiteralSplitPersonality: What makes Majin Buu unique compared to the other villains in the series is that he has three different personalities with their own motives, morality, and wants. Fat Buu is an innocent child-like being who has been manipulated into doing bad things because he didn't know any better. The moment he learns that his actions are evil, he swears off killing. When Fat Buu expels all his evil, that evil becomes Evil Buu and when he eats Fat Buu, he becomes the more powerful Super Buu, who is a cruel and cunning BloodKnight who only wants to fight stronger people and be the strongest in the universe by any means necessary. He is also the smartest of all the Buu forms, although his {{Pride}} in being the strongest makes him somewhat easy to manipulate, which Vegito takes full advantage of. When Fat Buu is separated from Super Buu's body, he reverts back to his original pure evil form, Kid Buu. This version of Buu is more of a force of nature than a personality, since it lives only to kill and destroy, and doesn't care about getting a good fight or being the strongest in the universe. This makes Kid Buu the most dangerous form since it has no character flaws to manipulate, and can't be reasoned or bargained with.²* LogicalWeakness: As [[FromASingleCell powerful]] as Majin Buu's HealingFactor is, it's ''not'' flawless. If constantly pressured with powerful attacks, his regeneration weakens since it takes more power and focus to heal from them, especially if the attacks are constantly occurring. This is seen in Super Buu's fight with Vegito, and Goku's fight with Kid Buu; Vegito beats Super Buu so brutally that his regeneration actually starts failing and leads him to forget to regrow some parts of his body, while Kid Buu endured so many powerful attacks from Goku that he ended up regenerating his head between his legs. Essentially, to defeat Buu, one has to pressure him to the point he can't regenerate fast enough.²* MagicAIsMagicA: {{Averted}}. One of the most frightening things about Buu is that his magical powers have no logical basis in cosmic hierarchy of the Dragon Ball universe - nobody, not least himself, can understand his own body’s capabilities so even when he’s in a docile state, he can be completely unpredictable. When Vegeta threatens to destroy an unconscious Fat Buu at the end of the Kid Buu Saga, he points out how another uncontrollable evil Buu could spawn out of him again one day and nobody would be any the wiser until it’s too late, and while this hasn’t yet turned out to be the case, Vegeta’s reasoning was entirely justified.²* MarsWantsChocolate: He's an EldritchAbomination that is obsessed with candy in general and chocolate in particular, to the point that he prefers to kill enemies by turning them into candy [[ToServeMan and eating them]]. Though Fat Buu notes chocolate made by people is better than that made ''from'' people.²* MoralityChain: Both Mr. Satan[=/=]Hercule and Bee, before he transforms to Super and Kid Buu.²* MysteriousPast: After his origins have been {{retcon}} nothing is really known about Buu outside of being as old as the universe and summoned to act as Bibidi's weapon for universal conquest.²* NighInvulnerability: UpToEleven in the SerialEscalation of FromASingleCell, you have to destroy him to the very last molecule, since he can regenerate from even mist particles of his being. However, he ''doesn't'' have SuperToughness. Unlike previous examples like Frieza or Cell, physical blows from even a weaker opponent will noticeably deform his body upon impact and even ki blasts will punch through him easily, [[HealingFactor it's just that he can reset it just as quickly]].²* NotSoHarmlessVillain: When first introduced, everyone not familiar with Buu perceived him as a joke, seeing him as a large, pudgy, pink infant. Babidi and Dabura thought that Buu's resurrection was not a success, Gohan had his doubts and Vegeta thought that Buu's power was only a threat when the universe was much weaker. Only the Supreme Kai knew better. After Dabura insulted him, Buu quickly showed everyone why he was so feared.²* ObsessedWithFood: Something all the Buu forms have in common. He is one of the few characters that is more obsessed with food than ''Goku''. Unique to Buu, he love sweets and can easily eat two cities' worth. He more often than not uses his reality warping ability to turn people or objects into food.²* OneWingedAngel: Has the most transformations of any villain in ''Dragon Ball'', and one of the most unusual variations since the power zigs-zags all over the place with the transformations.²* OurGeniesAreDifferent: Very different. [[http://www.kanzenshuu.com/press-archive/shonen-jump-october-2007-dragon-ball-collector-interview-with-the-majin/ In a 2007 interview]], Toriyama stated that he came up with Boo's design because he saw ''Arabian Nights'' as a kid, and "had this set image of what a majin, or genie, should look like", confirming that he thinks of Boo as a kind of genie. The Viz English translation of the manga directly calls him a "genie" or "djinn" depending on the character, and his Japanese title of "majin" (literally "magic person" or "demonic person") is often used as a synonym for djinn/genie (the blue guy from Disney's ''Aladdin'' was called a majin in the Japanese dub, for instance). Buu shares many attributes with the djinns of Arabian folklore, including sporting stylistically Arabic clothing, being sealed inside an object for a long time, materializing from smoke when released, being extremely long-lived, having magical powers such as shapeshifting and transmutation (typical djinn abilities), being summoned by a sorcerer to serve him, being bound to the sorcerer by an incantation, being summoned to Earth by draining peoples' life force (similar to an Ifrit), having an evil corrupted grey form (similar to a ghoul, which in some tales is a corrupted djinn), and being naturally stronger and faster than other beings, yet nonetheless still killable by physical means. Also, his good version in ''VideoGame/DragonBallOnline'' is blue, invoking a marid. ²* OutsideGenreFoe: Buu, for being as close to an EldritchAbomination that Dragon Ball continuity would allow. This bizarre pink genie creature has terrorized the universe, cowed the gods themselves, can transform you into ''conscious'' food while eating you alive, or absorb you by using its own malleable flesh to break off and consume you as it reintegrates with him and transforms into a new form, [[TheAssimilator taking some of the traits of the victims]] (this happened to ''God''), and, sufficiently enraged, he can tear through dimensional barriers, potentially causing universal collapse should he manage to hit enough at once. His pure, untainted form, Kid Buu, is even worse. Unlike all the other villains, he can't be reasoned with, he has no pride to take advantage of, no desire for anything except killing everything. In order to beat him, they literally had to go to a planet that he couldn't blow up in one shot. Even then, he was close to being an immortal given his endless energy and regeneration. He can even teleport into the afterlife, killing you for good after he kills you the first time. Buu's origins were also {{retcon}}ed to make him ''more'' out of context. It's originally believed that Bibidi created Buu using an advanced form of magic. We later learn that Buu is as old as the universe itself and ''no one'' knows where he came from or how he was born, making him an outside context villain for the entire universe.²* PerpetualMotionMonster: In all his incarnations, Buu is naturally very powerful, is a fighting prodigy, and has shapeshifting and [[TheAssimilator absorbing his opponents]] under his belt. But far and away the most dangerous thing about him is that he has bottomless energy and stamina, including the ability to immediately heal up from anything short of disintegration. ²* PingPongNaivete: He lacks a lot of common sense and general knowledge, but he's very intelligent when it comes to fighting, being able to learn moves after [[PowerCopying seeing them once]]. Also, even though he did not know what an hour was, after Piccolo showed him a sand timer, he was able to count the grains of sand and calculate how long an hour was [[AwesomeByAnalysis in a matter of seconds]].²* PhysicalGod: In a series full of Physical Gods, he tops them all by being super powerful and close to immortal thanks to his healing factor. The only one that exceeded him at the time was Beerus, who generally didn't seem interested in doing anything about him.²* PowerCopying: He can both imitate attacks he's seen only once ''and'' gain abilities from absorbing people.²* PowerLimiter: Zigzag all over the place. After Buu absorbs the Grand Supreme Kai, he transforms into the weaker and more docile Fat Buu. Supreme Kai even bemuses that his master did this on purpose so he could give Buu a conscience. After Fat Buu gets eaten by Evil Buu, he becomes the much more powerful Super Buu, but he is also restrained by emotions such as arrogance, pride, and his friendship with Mr. Satan. Once Fat Buu is disconnected from Super Buu, he returns to his pure form who can use his power to its fullest, since he has ''no'' emotional restraint. However, even while disconnected, Fat Buu still manages to influence Kid Buu, keeping him from killing Mr. Satan until he spits him out.²** The dub version of the Buu arc is a little messy in places. It's generally accepted that Fat Buu is an order of magnitude stronger than Kid Buu because he absorbed powerful opponents (this is before taking into account that Fat Buu lost power when he expelled Evil Buu). However, Kid Buu has no restraint when it comes to fighting and won't stop to banter. Fat Buu is too innocent to fight to the peak of his abilities and gets clobbered by Kid Buu as a result. Buu was originally an evil creature who absorbed evil energy to become stronger. Having a conscience prevents him from tapping into that power, but does not eliminate it. A better translation of the Supreme Kai's statement is that absorbing the other Supreme Kais "tamed" Buu instead of making him weaker. Also, despite his incredible stamina, each version of Buu will eventually start wearing out and take longer each time they try to heal themselves. However, if any piece of him is left behind after a fight, it's only a matter of time for Buu to rest enough to regenerate since he can't die of exhaustion, only obliteration.²* PsychopathicManchild: Fat Buu is the obliviously-evil type, Super Buu acts a bit more refined but tends to throw hissy fits when outmatched (even after absorbing Piccolo and Gohan), and Kid Buu is just completely off his rocker. ²* PyrrhicVictory: A tragic example; in his story mode in "Budokai Tenkaichi 3" he defeats the heroes and proceeds to destroy everyone, only to discover what it is like to be all alone... forever.²* RealityWarper: The strangest example in ''Dragon Ball''. While other reality warpers have more unique techniques, Buu's are downright destructive and powerful. He can literally destroy all of reality and everything in it... by screaming. No one, not even himself know how or why this works. When Super Buu gets mad enough while losing to Vegito, he has a freak out that Vegito realizes can destroy the entire universe. Vegito, being far stronger than Super Buu barely manages to beat the technique and smacks Buu so hard that he ''calms down'' and starts thinking logically again.²* RedEyesTakeWarning:²** A TropeCodifier for anime villains, though not at first, as both given later revelations about his origin or lack there of, it's likely a nod to Sun Wukong gaining red eyes. Evil Buu and Super Buu at first, had white pupils instead of the iconic red. However, after Gotenks managed to hit him, his eyes turned red, possibly his version of TurnsRed as [[BloodKnight finally being aware of a powerful fighter]]. ²** It's really more to do with the anime adjusting itself to the manga, as the color of Buu's pupils was only revealed at a color chapter cover.²* RealMenWearPink: More like "Real Men ''Are'' Pink", but still; a TropeCodifier for villains, though the manifested evil form is grey.²* RememberWhenYouBlewUpASun: ²** Buu killing all the Supreme Kais except one is reference several times and is even a plot point to explain how Kid Buu became Fat Buu.²** For the heroes, Buu firmly becomes TheDreaded after he kills Vegeta and (supposedly) Gohan. Chi-Chi went as far as to slap Buu because he murdered her son and Goku takes Buu very seriously when they first meet, thinking that despite Buu's silly personality, he did kill Vegeta.²** He also ends up being the "sun" for someone else. Goku's defeat of Majin Buu is known across the universe to the extent that it is one of the many reasons why Frieza's empire stood away from him and the Earth, and even Frieza is greatly impressed when he hears that Goku killed Buu, as it turns out he knew about Buu and was told to never mess with him.²* {{Retcon}}: Buu's origin. In the original release, he was a monster created by the wizard Bibidi. Years later, this was retcon'd into Buu always existing with no one knowing where he comes from. Bibidi only learns how to summon him from hibernation and imprison him if necessary.²* RubberMan: A psychotic, superpowered flying wad of bubblegum. ²* ShapeshifterDefaultForm: He can stretch and manipulate his body in increasingly odd ways, yet after he's done doing so for whatever purpose, he'll always revert to that form's default visage. Usually a combination of Kid Buu (a pink bubblegum-esque demon with red eyes, a head tentacle, and holes in his skin) and whoever he has absorbed. He also always wears the same pants.²* ShapeShifterGuiltTrip: Whenever Buu absorbs someone, he takes on their physical traits and mannerisms, which makes for an unnerving fight if the person fighting is a close friend or loved one. It's heavily implied that [[TheDreaded beyond his abilities surpassing the other Supreme Kais, especially after his first absorption]], is that [[MyGreatestFailure his appearance and mannerisms are a constant traumatic reminder that his comrade, Grand Supreme Kai was absorbed by Buu and the monster commits atrocities with those traits as a further reminder of that failure to prevent that.]] Fat Buu himself, [[AvertedTrope doesn't capitalize on this aspect of himself due to being concerned about destroying on his master's orders and being naive outside of it.]]²** Played very straight with when [[SuperPoweredEvilSide his manifestation of his evil nature]] [[SplitPersonalityTakeOver proceeds to take over the body]] to produce Super Buu, [[BrainsEvilBrawnGood who is much smarter and malicious than his previous self]]. He [[BreakingSpeech proceeds to mentally torture Gohan and to an extent, Goku with the fact that he absorbed Gotenks, Piccolo and later, Gohan himself by mocking him with information he gained from them.]] [[DubText Especially in the old addition of the dub, in which he does this to an even greater extent.]]²* ShoutOutThemeNaming: Between him and his two masters, [[Disney/{{Cinderella}} put them together, and what have you got?]][[note]][[WebAnimation/DeathBattle A Disney lawsuit?]][[/note]]²* SingleSpecimenSpecies: Buu is a very odd humanoid shapeshifting genie made of pink gum-like material, and there is absolutely nothing else like him in the multiverse. Apparently other ''Majins''/djinns exist, since Gohan and Trunks both had preconceptions about what Buu would like ("I thought he'd be bigger..."), but they're nothing like him. Expanded universe material like Xenoverse and Online have Mr. Buu giving birth to an entire race of Majins, but he remains this in the main series itself.²* SlasherSmile: In all forms, even Fat Buu occasionally. [[http://oi26.tinypic.com/dvlt01.jpg Special mention goes to Super Buu.]]²* SmarterThanYouLook: ''All'' the Buus display this at one point or another, and it leads to the biggest blunders anybody opposing them makes in assuming they're ''entirely'' stupid. Fat Buu is always aware that Babidi needs him, and plays along until he gets tired of it and easily outwits his "master". Super Buu is probably the best example, as he deliberately acted like a simpleminded thug to get others to get overconfident with him, even managing to fake his fight with Gotenks as serious when in reality he was waiting for Gohan. Even Kid Buu gets in on this, quickly realizing that Goku won't throw the Spirit Bomb since Vegeta is in harm's way, and parks himself ''right'' on top of the felled prince to render Goku unable to move as he'd drop the Spirit Bomb, but also unable to throw it, leaving him at Buu's lack of mercy. ²* SpellMyNameWithAnS: ²** Bandai and the subtitled version of the anime uses "Majin Boo", while Funimation uses "Buu" for their dub. Viz translated "Majin" as "Djinn."²** 魔 ("ma") can mean sorcery or demon (it's the same character used in Piccolo Dai'''ma'''ou). 人 ("jin") means person, but it also used to indicate a person's ethnicity ("Amerika-jin" for American). Majin can be a Japanese word for genie (or djinn). The only problem with replacing "Majin" with "djinn" is it removes the alternate meaning of "demon."²* TheStarscream: In his original form, Bibidi could barely control him (it's implied he'd just seal him, drop him off wherever he wanted the damage done, then repeat as necessary). Even Fat Buu wasn't terribly loyal, and eventually killed Babidi when he figured out he doesn't have to listen to him.²* StoryBreakerPower: Buu's transformation ray can turn ''anyone'' (including itself) into food or an object of Buu's desire, and is unblockable. The only saving grace is that can be dodged if a person is fast enough or expects it. However, one slip and you're dessert. This is on top of being able to reform from a single molecule and his absorption technique that allows him [[TheAssimilator to take in any fighter and gain their knowledge, techniques, and power]], though the latter can backfire and make him weaker if he absorbs the wrong type of person. Buu eventually became so broken that it takes an equally broken character to surpass him.²* SuperBreath: He used this to destroy a city. He obtained it after absorbing the [[{{God}} Grand Supreme Kai]]; when he used it, it doubled as a RazorWind.²* SuperpowerLottery: At his weakest he was stronger than Cell at his absolute best (Cell was a near match for a Super Saiyan 2 at ''his'' best, Buu laughably outclassed them and could reasonably keep pace with Super Saiyan 3s). Like Cell, Buu could regenerate, and took it UpToEleven (his vaporized molecules were sufficient to resurrect him in seconds). He also had [[CannibalismSuperpower the ability to absorb other beings]], gaining their abilities, strength, and skills... which he abused the hell out of. On top of that, he was also magical - pretty much a low-level RealityWarper, with the ability to turn just about anyone into just about anything ([[BigEater usually food]]). Once he'd gotten the ball rolling, the only being in the entire universe able to stand against him was Vegito, a fusion of the two strongest warriors on the planet.²* SweetTooth: He can change anyone, including himself, into candy in order to eat them.²* SuperToughness: While Buu in all his forms is tough, his body noticeably deforms when struck even by weaker opponents and even ki blasts from weaker foes can tear right through him whereas most fighters would just plain shrug them off with no effect. The catch is that his [[RubberMan his body will quickly reset]] or will [[HealingFactor regenerate]] with ease. During Kid Buu's battle with Goku, both of them blast each other with a Kamehameha that results in Kid Buu being torn to pieces while Goku just adds to his collection of bruises.²* TangledFamilyTree: Let's see, Kid Buu absorbs South Supreme Kai to become Buff Buu, and then absorbs Grand Supreme Kai to become Fat Buu. Then Fat Buu releases the evilness from himself in rage which manifests itself into the Evil Buu, who subsequently absorbs Fat Buu and becomes Super Buu. Super Buu absorbs Gotenks, Piccolo, and Gohan only to have them ripped from inside of him by Vegito (who also removes Fat Buu). After all of these are removed, Super Buu becomes Kid Buu again, who is then destroyed and reincarnated into Uub. This can confuse a lot of people since it would seem like removing Fat Buu from Super Buu should turn him back into Evil Buu, but it doesn't. Also, while Fat Buu releasing his Evil side made him weaker and him being rejected by Kid Buu made Kid Buu weaker, Fat Buu could theorically be changed back into Kid Buu ''again'' if someone was to get inside of him and remove the Supreme Kais that he absorbed. Despite all of this, each Buu also seems to have limitless potential if ''Super'' is anything to go by and each Buu can become the strongest version of himself regardless if they absorb their opponents or not. All of this doesn't even take into account the games many different timelines and questionable canonicity where you get Buu's descendents born from the union of him and a female version of himself that he created in ''Dragon Ball Online'', his descendents(?) that somehow formed in ''Xenoverse'', or characters like his clones or Majin 21 in ''Dragon Ball Heroes'' (how do you create a clone out of a magical pink blob anyway?)²* TimeAbyss²** Buu has lived for ''millions'' of years. In fact, Toriyama has stated that Buu has existed since the beginning of time, awakening, rampaging, and going to sleep in long cycles. Bibidi didn't create him, he just woke him up.²** Which makes Buu remarkably similar to a classic RPG villain that Toriyama did the artwork on. The misinformation about who created Buu as well as being a timeless entity that rains destruction before going into a state of habituation mirrors the story of Lavos from ''VideoGame/ChronoTrigger''.²* TurnedAgainstTheirMasters: Majin Buu betrays Babidi, prevents him from saying the incantation to seal him away before murdering the sorcerer.²* TookALevelInJerkass: Every time he transforms. He goes from goofy and misguided Fat Buu, to the cunning and cruel Super Buu, to the completely bat shit crazy Kid Buu.²* TransformationRay: He can fire one from his head-tentacle. He mainly uses it to turn people into [[SweetTooth candy]], making it a OneHitKill if it hits. The drawbacks? [[spoiler: In addition to only affecting organic matter, the beam itself is so slow and weak that [[EnemyWithout Evil Buu]] was able to literally blow it back at Fat Buu and [[HoistByHisOwnPetard turn him into chocolate]]; later, Vegito is even able to keep his sapience and power when hit by it and turned into a jaw breaker. The Daizenshuu explains that this was because of the Kai magic of his earrings.]]²* UnskilledButStrong: Their attack animations in the video games are just them flailing their limbs around. In the show itself it's more a mixed bag: Buu has a fighting style that might best be described as "chaotic" and often relies on brute strength, but he's certainly capable of great skill. He's particularly good at coming up with inventive ways to use his rubbery, stretchy body in combat, even the fat one.²* UnstoppableRage: His AxCrazy tendencies and (In any form aside from Fat Buu) HairTriggerTemper make him easy to anger and is a nightmare when he does go off.²* VictoryByEndurance: A stronger opponent is capable of beating on Buu and causing him injury, temporarily weakening him. But unless he is completely disintegrated, he will be back and at full strength shortly, and eventually he will wear you down. Note that by complete disintegration, we mean "completely wiped from existence in a way that violates the law of conservation of matter"- reducing him to ''smoke particles'' wasn't enough to do this. Kid Buu and Super Buu manage to win against their respective Super Saiyan 3 opponents simply by outlasting their opponent's stamina. Fat Buu may very well have been able to do the same had his Super Saiyan 3 fight actually been drawn to its conclusion (Goku ''claims'' he could've finished it before that became an issue, but [[AmbiguousSituation his claim was never validated]] and circumstantial evidence such as his state at the end of the fight relative to Buu's and his later underestimation of Super Saiyan 3's energy drain could suggest otherwise).²[[/folder]]²²[[folder:Fat Buu]]²!!'''Fat Buu (魔人ブウ 無邪気, ''Majin Bū Mujaki'', "Innocent Majin Boo" / 魔人ブウ 善, ''Majin Bū Zen'', "Good Majin Boo") / Mister Buu / Mr. Boo (ミスター・ブウ, ''Misutā Bū'')'''²[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/unprecedented_buu.png]]²[[caption-width-right:300:[[labelnote:Click here to see him after training]]https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/majin_buu_slim_6.png[[/labelnote]]]]²->Voiced by: Creator/ScottMcNeil (Ocean dub); Josh Martin (Funimation dub); Corby Proctor (Blue Water Studios in ''GT''); Creator/SpikeSpencer (Bang Zoom!/Toonami Asia in ''Super'')²²-->''"So, do you want to be candy, cookie, or pudding when Buu eats you?"''²²The form in which Buu appears when Babidi releases him, much to everyone's surprise. "Fat Buu" is an obese, gluttonous, genie-like creature who looks like he's made out of bubblegum. In this form, all Buu cares about is eating sweets, fighting strong opponents, and blowing up cities for fun, unaware of the pain he causes. This changes when Mr. Satan tries (and miserably fails) to defeat him and instead becomes Buu's friend, something which gradually puts Buu on the path of leaning to care for all life. When Satan (and Bee, a stray dog Buu adopts) is shot by a human criminal, Buu is overcome with rage and pain, and his [[LiteralSplitPersonality evil side]] literally emerges from him, fights him, and absorbs him, turning into Super Buu.²²Later, when Goku and Vegeta are inside Super Buu looking for their absorbed friends, they also find Fat Buu, whom they free, causing Super Buu to transform into Kid Buu. Fat Buu, now firmly on the side of good, helps hold off Kid Buu while Goku charges his Spirit Bomb. When Kid Buu is finally defeated, the heroes responsible wish on the Dragon Balls for the general populace's memory of Babidi and Buu to be erased so that Fat Buu, now called "Mister Buu" as Mr. Satan's sidekick and a celebrity in his own right, can stick around.²²In the timeline of ''Dragon Ball GT'', Fat Buu merges with Uub to become ''Majuub'', effectively ceasing to exist. In the ''Dragon Ball Online'' timeline, however, he creates a wife called Miss Buu, and together they beget a whole new race of friendly Majins who populate the Earth.²----²²* {{Acrofatic}}: In spite of his large and round body, he's surprisingly fast and agile.²** His introductory scene shows this well. He gives [=SS2 Gohan=] and the Supreme Kai a huge head start to run away, before finally starting to chase them. He not only easily catches them, he proceeds to FlashStep in front of them without them realizing he'd moved at all.²** Despite being an obese pink blob with thin limbs, he manages to fight on par with Goku's Super Saiyan 3 for a bit, and is Vegeta's superior in combat. ²** In ''Dragon Ball Super'' episode 85; after intense training has now become [[SubvertedTrope lean, stronger, and faster in how he battles.]]²* AdamAndEvePlot: Between the events of ''Anime/DragonBallZ'' and ''VideoGame/DragonBallOnline'', he created a wife for himself, and fathered an entire race of Majins.²* AmbiguousInnocence: This is what makes this version of Buu so dangerous. He thinks like a child; all he did is one big game, including [[KillEmAll murdering everyone on a planet]], or turning them into food and eating them. Goku in the dub describes him as a naughty child. As soon as Mr. Satan explains to him that killing and destruction are wrong, [[HeelFaceTurn he pulls the plug immediately]], claiming that he will never kill again. It comes up again after he's gotten lean in the Universe Survival Saga, excitement prompting Buu to say he'll exterminate all his opponents - when told he can't kill them, he's curious when asking if he really can't, but easily seems to accept it and uses ring-out tactics against Goku.²* AntiVillain: Type III bordering on Type IV. He is easily the most sympathetic ArcVillain in the series, and aside from Vegeta, the only one in ''Anime/DragonBallZ'' to turn good. He kills and destroys only because it's all he was ever taught to do and he doesn't really comprehend at first that it's wrong. When Hercule explains to him that it is, he has no problems stopping.²* AxCrazy: Especially in Vegeta's fight. Mostly because Vegeta got him mad by calling him names.²* BadassAdorable: Especially after his HeelFaceTurn. ²* BadassCape: Due to inheriting the old Grand Supreme Kai's outfit. It isn't actually a cape though, it's part of his body. Yet he can still take it off. Weird.²* BalloonBelly: Due to inheriting the old Grand Supreme Kai's figure and being a stretchy being.²* BerserkButton: Calling him names or harming Mr. Satan and/or Bee will be the last thing you'll ever do. ²* BewareTheSillyOnes: ²** To say that his debut probably left many a viewer confused would be easy; after all, he's a babyish blob monster. Then he oneshot Gohan, who fought on par with Dabura, '''''who was as strong as Cell.'''''²** Universe 9 finds this out the hard way: at first both Basil and Rou think he's nothing but a buffoon...then Buu gets ''mad''. The end result is Basil getting completely ''manhandled''. Even with a PowerUpFood from Rou, Basil ultimately loses without leaving so much as a scratch on Buu.²* BigBad: For Buu arc, before he turned good. Specifically, he's the main villain for most of volume 39 and all of volume 40.²* BigEater: Fat Buu ''loves'' to eat, and devours massive amounts of sweets, candy and pastry at the slightest opportunity. In fact, he's such a glutton that he will devour ''entire city populations'' by changing all of the people into food.²* BreakingTheFourthWall: In one episode of ''Z'' he builds a house, then proceeds to tell the audience the various parts of it, as well as say, while he's brushing his teeth, that you should always remember to brush. It's so bizarre and out of place it arguably counts as a [=BLAM=].²* BrilliantButLazy: Not to the point of Frieza, but Buu is shown to be capable of near instantly copying certain moves and was second only to Beerus and Whis in power in Universe 7 initially. However, he never really trains or tries to improve. That is until the Universe Survival Arc where he actually ''does'' train. For two hours. The result is him gaining an Super Buu-like form and increasing his speed and strength immensely. ''Two hours''.²* BroughtDownToBadass: He was considerably weakened from his full potential (that being [[SuperpoweredEvilSide Super Buu]]) when he expelled Evil Buu from his body, but he still has quite a bit of power left to him. He was able to put up a decent fight against Kid Buu at the end of ''Z'', in which both fighters repeatedly inflict damage that would kill the other if not for [[GoodThingYouCanHeal their respective regenerative powers]]. In ''Super'', he's easily able to beat back Basil, one of Universe 9's top warriors, and Goku considers him one of his top picks for both the Universe 6 tournament and the Tournament of Power.²* CharacterDevelopment: Gets quite a bit surprisingly. Starts off as a violent psychopathic child, but learns compassion and respect for life from interacting with Hercule and his dog Bee. By the end, he's still childish but is kind and gentle.²* ChickMagnet: By the series finale. [[CluelessChickMagnet Not that he notices much]].²* CombatCompliment: He praises Super Saiyan 3 Goku during their brief fight since he is the first foe he fought that he didn't steamroll.²* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: Out of all the Buu forms, Fat Buu appears the most harmless with his childish and playful demeanor. Dabura actually calls him an utter idiot and Gohan thinks Buu can be tamed since he's like a kid. Then, Buu reveals how dangerous he actually is by easily defeating Dabura, Gohan, the Supreme Kai, and Vegeta without taking any real damage.²* ConservationOfNinjutsu: Zig-Zagged. Gohan, Dabra, and Kaioshin all fall in seconds before him, but then Goku says that if he and Vegeta (both being slightly stronger than Super Saiyan 2 Gohan at the Cell Games) takes some senzus and team up, they'll definitely be able to beat him. Then he powers up ''more'' after [[BerserkButton Vegeta insults him]]. After this (and Vegeta's death), it's explicitly stated that no number of Super Saiyan 2s would have a chance against him.²-->'''Goku:''' “Damn it! If only Vegeta and Gohan were still alive, I might have a chance...”[[note]]He's talking about the FusionDance, as revealed in his next line.[[/note]]²-->'''Piccolo:''' “No. It wouldn't make the slightest difference how many of you were here.”²** It's also lampshaded during Vegeta's fight with Buu. Goten and Trunks rush in (each were shown earlier in the arc to be decently close to the adult Super Saiyans during spars) and offer to give him a senzu and all go at Buu together. Vegeta simply says that it won't make any difference. ²* CurbStompBattle: His "fights" with Dabura, the Supreme Kai, Gohan, Goten, Trunks, and Vegeta. ²** Vegeta probably got the worst of it; after selling his soul in order to reach his current power, Buu ''still'' reduces him to a bloody and broken mess (complete with a broken arm) in just ''one'' attack. ²** He becomes a victim of this in his fight with Evil Buu, who dismantles him in just a few panels in the manga. The anime makes it an extended NoHoldsBarredBeatdown.²** His fight with Kid Buu is more of a CurbStompCushion. He loses, but he puts up a decent fight at first (the Buus repeatedly hit each other with attacks that would kill the other [[HealingFactor if they couldn't regenerate]]), which pisses off [[PsychopathicManchild Kid Buu]] to no end, as he was expecting a complete weakling he could toy with like Vegeta.²* DiscOneFinalBoss: Fat Buu ends up as this to Super/Kid Buu, since they are both more powerful than him and far more evil.²* TheDogBitesBack: Goku chides Buu for taking orders from a weakling like Babidi before abandoning their fight. Taking that to heart, he decides he has had enough of being barked around by his "master". Tricking Babidi into getting too close for his own good, he chokes him to keep him silent and punches his head off, eliminating any risk of Babidi trying to seal him back in.²* EstablishingCharacterMoment: When he is freed from his ball, Buu spends several minutes dancing around like a little kid, much to the confusion of Babidi, Dabura, and Gohan. Gohan thinks Buu is innocent and perhaps can be reasoned with (this is later proven to be true, but Buu is currently at odds with his dark side). Dabura thinks he's a stupid fool who is unaware of anything. Then Buu [[EyeScream punches Dabura in the eyes]] before punching him into a cliffside.²* EvilDetectingDog: Has this demeanor towards Evil Buu when the latter first appears.²* EyesAlwaysShut: Except when angry or about to kill.²* FatBastard: At first, before he {{Took A Level In Kindness}} thanks to Mister Satan.²* FatIdiot: Double subverted, he is not bright, but he was actually dumber before the absorption that left him with his pudgy form. Furthermore, Fat Buu is the only Buu willing to abandon evil, which means he's the only Buu who gets to survive.²* FreudianExcuse: Before Mr. Satan gets through to him. He kills because he doesn't know any better, and it's all he knows, which is why he continues his rampage even without Babidi to order him around. ²* FreudianExcuseIsNoExcuse: As stated above, Buu [[ObliviouslyEvil didn't know any better]] and only knew how to kill, which is why he continued his rampage even after killing Babidi. While Goku is [[SympathyForTheDevil somewhat sympathetic]], Piccolo rebukes it, declaring outright that one's background does ''not'' excuse acts of evil. This case is also mildly [[DeconstructedTrope deconstructed]]; while the heroes are busy trying to deal with him the normal way, Mr. Satan, of all people, ultimately manages to end up befriending Buu because of Buu's child-like nature and very nearly manages to convince him to stop his killing ways, showing that if the heroes ''had'' took the time to try and explain things to Buu, they very likely could have avoided a ''lot'' of bloodshed. Of course, then some hunters [[EnemyWithout had the bright idea]] [[SuperpoweredEvilSide to try and take matters into their own hands...]] ²* GameFace: When he got serious prior to the Tournament of Power, he got in shape, losing a few hundred pounds ''in a matter of hours,'' and ended up looking more like Super Buu more than anything. Unfortunately, the effort left him hungry and tired, so he immediately gained it all back after binge eating, which had the side effect of him taking a "nap" which would last about two months. In the interim, [[PutOnABus Goku would have to search for a replacement]], necessitating the recruitment of Frieza.²* GeniusBruiser: A {{Downplayed}} example since this version of Buu is the most naive. At the same time, he tricks Vegeta into getting wrapped up in his own blubber and he realizes quickly that Babidi needs him to keep him from being killed by Z-Fighters. He also finds a way to kill Babidi before he can seal him again by tricking him into coming in close and clamping his mouth shut to prevent him from saying the sealing incantation. Finally, he learns the Kamehameha and one of Vegeta's techniques just by seeing it once. In ''Xenoverse 2'', Akkah also notes that Buu reads tons of books and processes information pretty quickly when he actually wants to, saying he's "surprisingly, quite the studier."²* GentleGiant: Post-CharacterDevelopment. He's [[StoutStrength huge]], immortal, and powerful enough to blow away solar systems, but kind and gentle. ²* GetOut: Screams at Mr. Satan to leave when he starts losing control of his anger and inner evil: unable to keep it suppressed, there's little Buu can do but order Satan to get to safety.²* GodEating: One of his first acts is turning [[SatanicArchetype the Demon King Dabura]] into a cookie and eating him after [[TheWorfEffect beating him up to establish he's a threat]]. He also considers eating the Supreme Kai, but never gets around to. ²* HealingHands: He can heal grievous wounds, or even physical disabilities like blindness. ²* HeavySleeper: In ''Super'', Buu has swapped his hibernation to falling into periods of deep sleep. However these periods typically [[AsleepForDays last for months]], during which he is almost impossible to awaken. As luck would have it, he always falls asleep when others need him, such as when Frieza gets revived and attacks the Earth, during the test for the Universe 6 Tournament, and again in the [[spoiler: Universal Survival Saga where after he has a sparring match with Goku]].²* HeelFaceTurn: Thanks to Hercule of all people. All of Hercule's laughable attempts to kill Buu only makes him like Hercule and they eventually form a friendship. When Hercule ask Buu why he kills and destroys, Buu reveals that is what he's been taught his entire life. When Hercule tells Buu that killing is wrong, Buu vows never to kill again. This would have been the end of the saga…if Van Zant never happened.²* HeliumSpeech: In the Funimation dub. ²* HeroesLoveDogs: One of the main causes of his HeelFaceTurn, outside of Mr. Satan, is his pet dog Bee.²* HeroicSacrifice: Twice. In ''Z'', he risks his life (and nearly dies) while fighting Kid Buu. In ''GT'', he effectively kills himself by fusing with Uub.²* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Mr. Satan. It's Mr. Satan that teaches Buu the value of human life and causes him to recant killing. Mr. Satan also acts as his moral conscious and Buu is completely loyal to him.²* HiddenDepths: The first non-violent interaction we see Buu have is with a homeless blind child who doesn't recognizes him due to his blindness. Puzzled by the child's lack of fear towards him, Buu first heals of his blindness so he can scare him. But when the blind kid is too much in awe of Buu for having given him the ability to see to be scared of him, Buu discovers that he rather likes being praised for doing a good deed, so when the formerly-blind kid reveals that he was actually out searching for milk, Buu decides to help him further out by getting him some milk (albeit by turning the milk man into a carton of milk). This is the first sign that Buu isn't inherently evil, he just sincerely doesn't understand that hurting and killing people is wrong.²* HoistByHisOwnPetard: Tries to turn the Evil Buu into chocolate with his change beam, but is ironically turned into chocolate himself and eaten when the Evil Buu blows his change beam back at him. He gets better later. ²* HulkSpeak: The Funimation dub has him talking like this. In the original Japanese version, he speaks rather normally.²* HumanityIsInfectious: After becoming friends with Mr. Satan and learning that killing and destroying are wrong, he gives up his evil ways and chose to live a peaceful life on Earth. The influence Mr. Satan has on him is so powerful that Fat Buu acts as a restraining bolt for Super Buu, preventing him from hurting Mr. Satan.²* IdiotSavant: Despite the fact that he appears to be...less than intelligent, much like Goku, Fat Buu's intelligence is concentrated more in combat than other areas, giving him the appearance of being less than intelligent. While not exactly untrue, he is known to be quite adaptable and cunning in combat.²* IdiotHoudini: Buu is allowed to live because he didn't have any idea of the moral implications of his actions. Helps that he becomes pretty much harmless ComicRelief after befriending Mr. Satan and [[HeelFaceTurn learning empathy and that destruction/killing is wrong]].²* JustToyingWithThem: His fight with Super Saiyan 3 Goku is a unique example for this series for two reasons. One, neither Buu nor Goku has an enormous power advantage, so they're ''both'' not taking it seriously. Two, while both fighters are actually outputting their full ''power'' during the fight (Goku is sweating bullets by the end), they are "holding back" by virtue of not fighting very aggressively. They throw a few moderate attacks at each other, have pleasant mid-battle chats and exchange compliments, and let each other demonstrate various combat tricks. And when they're done, they simply part ways amicably. It's more of an example of two SpiritedCompetitor types having a friendly (albeit intense) spar than a true life or death battle.²* KickThemWhileTheyAreDown: He wraps Vegeta in a string of his own flesh, immobilizing him. He then lands on Vegeta, crushing him, before beating the living hell out of him.²* LackOfEmpathy: Starts off this way, but learns empathy by interacting with Bee and Mr. Satan.²* LaserGuidedKarma: Despite being redeemed with the help of Mr. Satan, he still had to pay his dues. Namely, being the weakest and least skilled Buu form, he gets his butt kick mercilessly by his evil counterparts. He gets turned into chocolate and eating by Evil Buu, exactly what he did to many of his victims, and later he is overwhelmed and beaten to near death by Kid Buu, again just like he did to his victims.²* LaughablyEvil: Double subverted, he is a silly enemy, but [[BewareTheSillyOnes the power he wields is played straight]].²* LetsGetDangerous: When Basil accidentally hurts Mr. Satan, Buu stops playing around and literally beats Basil into the ground. If the rules had permitted ring outs, he would've won right then and there.²* TheLoad: He is by far the least dependable Z-Fighter bar none. Whenever there is a crisis or a need for his power, he falls asleep. This includes him [[spoiler: sleeping when he's needed for the tournament between U6 and the Tournament of Power]].²* LiteralSplitPersonality: After he expels all his inner evil, he becomes the good side of Buu, thanks the Kais he absorb given him a conscience. This also makes him the weakest form since Buu was originally a pure evil being created by absorbing the evil energy from across the universe.²* LivingEmotionalCrutch: Mr. Satan and Bee (the puppy) becomes this to Fat Buu. He completely loses it when they're shot by a madman to the point that he releases all his inner evil who took the form of Evil Buu. They're also the primary reason he is redeemed.²* MesACrowd: During his fight with Kid Buu, his severed pieces reform as four copies of himself, all of which proceed to beat on Kid Buu.²* MoralityChain: His presence in Super Buu made him receptive to Videl's challenge (through her relation to Mr. Satan), though it didn't stop him from later killing her. When inside Kid Buu, he kept Kid Buu from harming Mr. Satan until Kid Buu spit him out.²* MonsterProgenitor: In the timeline leading to ''Videogame/DragonBallOnline'', Buu spontaneously decides he wants a wife and family after reading one of Mr. Satan's romance novels and creates a wife in the same manner he created Evil Buu, though formed from his desire for love rather than from struggling with grief and anger. He then shoots Miss Buu with a "love love beam", causing her to produce kids. From that would eventually spawn the entire Majin race. Thankfully, they're "monster" in name only, showing none of the original Buu's psychopathic tendencies. Each subsequent generation of Majins also happen to be [[OlderIsBetter weaker than the last]], though with training and a wish from the Dragon all of these newer Majins have the potential to become as strong as "Pure" Buu.²* NonHumanSidekick: To Mr. Satan[=/=]Hercule after his HeelFaceTurn. This works out surprisingly well despite Hercule being weak. Buu has always been an almost mindless force, needing someone to give his life and skills direction. Of course, if you are mean and cruel to him, [[TheDogBitesBack he'll turn on you, just ask Babidi]]. Hercule, on the other hand, is kind and friendly to Buu, which makes the [[BigFun big guy]] far more willing to listen to Hercule.²* NoSell: When Super Saiyan 2 Vegeta confronts him, he just sits still and lets the guy punch him repeatedly to no effect, even laughing and saying it tickles. That is, until Vegeta uses a charged-up energy attack to blow a hole in his torso; [[BerserkButton THAT makes him mad]], because it [[MinorInjuryOverreaction it actually hurt "a tiny bit"]]; he proceeds to [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown give Vegeta one of the worst beatings in the series]].²* NowItsMyTurn: One of his ways to fight is letting his opponent ineffectively [[StoneWall attack and knock him around]], then laugh it off and fight back with devastating force.²* ObliviouslyEvil: Does not realize that killing/eating people is wrong until Mr. Satan points this out to him, leading to a HeelFaceTurn.²* OneTrackMindedHunger: The number of people he kills ''without'' eating them can be counted on one hand.²* PowerCopying: Instantly learns the Kamehameha after seeing Goku use it just once. He also mimicked the Supreme Kai's [[PsychicPowers psychic]] [[MindOverMatter attack]]. As Super Buu, it is revealed that he even learned Vegeta's suicide attack (which he can simply regenerate from).²* PowerLimiter: Fat Buu becomes one to both Super and Kid Buu. After Evil Buu ate Fat Buu and became Super Buu, he becomes more powerful, but hindered by emotions such as pride, arrogance, and his friendship with Mr. Satan. Once Fat Buu is disconnected from Super Buu, Buu returns to his pure form. Power-wise, he isn't as powerful as Super Buu at his strongest, but he ''is'' the most dangerous form of Buu because he has ''no'' emotional restraints and can use his power to its fullest. However, despite not being physically connected to Kid Buu, Fat Buu still manages to influence him, keeping Kid Buu from killing Mr. Satan until he finally spits him out.²* PutOnABus: In ''Dragon Ball Super'''s Tournament of Power arc, he underwent intense training which looked quite promising, since he went from fat to fit and beat. Unfortunately, he went overboard with training and ended up taking a two month "nap",²* RealityEnsues: He's the SuperPrototype to the Majin Race, with his distant descendants being no stronger than your typical Earthling or Namekian. Makes sense, since the AdamAndEvePlot he had with Miss Buu amounted to magical inbreeding (and inbreeding can cause a lot of problems through genetic defects stemmed from gene pools that're too similar).²* RedemptionDemotion: Though certainly a force to be reckoned with, expelling his evil side puts him at a disadvantage against his EnemyWithout, and later Kid Buu. Both of them had no morality to speak of, and thus could use their power to its full extent. Also since Buu is originally an evil, chaotic being, Fat Buu lost most of his power after he expelled his evil side and was rejected by Kid Buu. This, however, does not make him ''weak''. He's still powerful enough to completely manhandle Basil, one of the strongest fighters in Universe 9 and Goku considered him one of his top picks for both tournaments.²* ResistTheBeast: Prior to losing control of his anger and inner evil, Buu desperately screams at Mr. Satan to get away from him before it's too late.²* RunningGag: Buu falling asleep at inconvenience times. He slept through the entire invasion with Frieza, he fell asleep while taking the test for the first Universal Tournament. He fell asleep during the Zeno exhibition match and [[spoiler: he fell asleep ''again'' before the Tournament of Power]]. In most of these examples, he didn't wake up until the conflict is long over.²* StoneWall: Actually ''hurting'' Buu is a feat onto itself due to his intense durability, stamina, and healing factor. Even weakened by his separation from Evil/Kid Buu, he's durable enough to take multiple blows from ''freaking Beerus'' and keep going, something even Goku couldn't do. Severally of his fights consist of him letting the opponent knock him around ineffectively.²* StoryBreakerPower: According to the guidebooks, his Candy Beam would fell anyone not protected by godly magic (like Vegito). So, of course, he never uses it in ''Super''.²** Unlike other characters like Gohan and Gotenks who have explicitly become very weak by the time of ''Super'' ([[SciFiWritersHaveNoSenseOfScale to the point where Krillin can now be wounded by a bullet if off guard]]), Buu's power never seems to decay. He's still considered quite strong throughout and is Goku's first choice for the U6 tournament, with the anime Universal Survival arc implying that his default power is around that of end-of-Super Super Saiyan 1 Goku's.[[note]]He's far stronger than Basil, who could trade blows with Super Saiyan Vegeta at the Tournament of Power and shrug off hits from him, and (alongside his explicitly weaker brother, Lavender) pressure him into transforming above basic Super Saiyan when attacking with a teammate.[[/note]] Such a level of strength in a secondary character would have trivialized most foes between Beerus and [[spoiler:Zamasu]],[[note]]Cabba, Initial Form/Assault Form Frost, first and fourth form resurrected Frieza, Tagoma, and Botamo were all on par with or weaker than an earlier, far less powerful version of ''base'' Goku. Final Form Frost was stronger than base Goku but no match for Super Saiyan 1 Goku.[[/note]] while the aforementioned Candy Beam would have trivialized the rest.[[note]]Golden Frieza has no resistance to its effects and is arrogant enough to try to tank it. Magetta is big, slow, can't fly, and also has no resistance.[[/note]] So Buu gets hit with a DeusExitMachina ''four times in a row.''²** As shown by the last arc of Super, Buu gains power at a ridiculously fast rate, with ''two hours'' of training massively boosting his strength and speed according to Goku. [[BrilliantButLazy He never trains.]]²** As the Supreme Kai points out in chapter 30 of the ''Super'' manga, Buu [[HealingHands can heal anyone from any injury]] and has seemingly bottomless energy, rendering senzu beans irrelevant. If he had participated in the Tournament of Power, not only would he have been one of the strongest fighters there (about on par with [=SS3=] Goku and thus dimensions above 90% of the competitors), but he would have been able to heal all of his teammates whenever any of them got tired or suffered a wound. He also would of been able to knock out several fights easily thanks to being able to do things like turn them into food, and then throwing them out, with only fighters like Jiren or Top being possibly able to NoSell it. This would have been ''massively'' overpowered, particularly as two major plot points of the Tournament of Power were trying to conserve energy and weaker fighters ganging up on tired-out stronger fighters. So, like in previous arcs, he gets hit with a DeusExitMachina. ²* StoutStrength: He's essentially a fat blob, but he was one of the universe's greatest threats for a long time and with good reason. This guy once sent a massive truck flying with ''[[MegatonPunch a single punch]]''.²* SuperPrototype: According to the backstory of ''Online'', as the Majin race became more numerous, his immense power divided with his lineage. Over time, the Majins weren't that much more stronger than your standard Earthling or Namekian (despite Buu himself exceeding any of the above).²* SweetTooth: He's very fond of chocolates and candy.²* ThirdPersonPerson: Dub only.²* TookALevelInBadass: After beating Basil in [[Anime/DragonBallSuper Universe Survival Arc]], he desires to fight seriously; thus he's being retrained by Mr. Satan. To the point that ''he's not fat anymore'' and he beats Goku in friendly match with tournament rules, although Goku wasn't really trying either.²* TookALevelInJerkass: In ''Dragon Ball Super''s' Battle of Gods arc, Buu acts more in the manner of a jerk than he did in other supplemental material. In said episodes consisting this arc, all he ever does is intimidate Mr. Satan for more food. Come Beerus' visit, not only does he eat all the pudding, he does it after Whis and Mr. Satan politely ask him to share. He then says that since he's strong so he can have whatever he wants. When Mr. Satan tries to apologize for him, Buu pushes him out of the way and attacks Beerus. Although he's nowhere near as dangerous or evil as he used to be and is still a good guy at this point, it's harder to feel sorry for him when Beerus beats the crud out of him. However, this is then followed by the second example below...²* TookALevelInKindness: ²** Thanks to Hercule's influence ([[PetTheDog with a little help from a puppy]]), Buu gained a rudimentary sense of morality and swore off killing. [[spoiler:[[BerserkButton At least until someone shot Hercule...]]]]²** Despite how he behaved in the Battle of Gods arc, Buu still values Mr. Satan above all else and when offered a bribe to wish for something from the Super Dragon Balls, he says that he'll give the wish to Mr. Satan because Mr. Satan has given him everything he's ever wanted. That's something that couldn't have been said about Buu before his HeelFaceTurn.²* UngratefulBastard: Shortly after he was released by Babidi, Buu pretty much ignored Babidi's presence going around and doing his own thing, not even thanking him. He only ends up bowing to Babidi when the latter [[BlackMail essentially threatens Majin Buu with being re-sealed if he doesn't accept him as his master]].²* UnskilledButStrong: He's not as vacant as he looks and can mimic techniques after seeing them once, but he tends to rely on his preposterous durability.²* UnstoppableRage: His power rises as he gets angrier, something noted by both Goku and Vegeta. This is implied to be because of him shedding the Grand Kaioshin's RestrainingBolt influence and gaining more access to the power of Kid Buu and South Kaioshin. When he gets angry enough, he expels his latest power up which then forms a whole new being, Evil Buu.²* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: In ''Battle of Gods'' he refuses to share any pudding cups with Beerus. This not only results in Beerus beating the tar out of him, but also leads to Bulma calling on the other fighters present to restrain Beerus and ultimately leads to Beerus deciding to destroy the Earth out of frustration.²* WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds: Mainly because it's all he knew to do until Mr. Satan came into his life.²* TheWorfBarrage: His TransformationRay gets deflected back by Evil Buu.²* TheWorfEffect: ²** His introduction. He knocks out Dabura with ''one'' kick (after [[EyeScream poking out his eyes]]), handily demonstrating how much more powerful he is than the previous ArcVillain (Dabura was stated to be Cell's equal). He then nearly kills Gohan with two hits.²** His fight with Kid Buu is basically this. Keep in mind both forms have [[TheUnfettered almost unlimited endurance]] and don't seem to mind pain very much, to say nothing of their [[FromASingleCell From A Single molecule]] regeneration. Yet Kid Buu ''still'' overpowers the good Fat Buu, just to send the heroes a message: even a hero Buu is no match for a villain Buu. ²** Happens earlier with Evil Buu. Up to that point, Fat Buu was invincible with only Super Saiyan 3 Goku giving him a decent fight. Then Evil Buu curb stomps him without really trying and deflected his transform ray by ''blowing'' it back.²** The biggest example would be against Beerus, in both the [[Anime/DragonBallZBattleOfGods film]] and ''[[Anime/DragonBallSuper Super]]'', where he gets thrashed both times with no effort from Beerus (though he does take the hits better than any other opponent).²* WorthyOpponent: He comes to see Goku as this since he's the only opponent he fought that he didn't flatten. He's quite upset when Goku stops their match. Goku uses his desire to fight strong opponents to make him wait three days before destroying the Earth. He does ''not'' feel this attitude about Vegeta, on the other hand, which may have something to do with the fact that Vegeta is a major JerkAss on top of being much weaker than him. ²-->'''Buu:''' You bad-mouth me a lot for being such a weakling. ²* WouldHurtAChild: Beating Gotenks to the point he had to be medicated and having a black eye.²* YourSizeMayVary: He can go from being nearly as tall as Super Buu or Dabra to just Goku's height depending on the scene. [[https://i.imgur.com/414voDh.jpg The official height charts for the animators]] indicate that he's ''supposed'' to be huge: over seven and a half feet tall, but as of ''Super'' his “Good” self seems to have firmly settled into a shorter height. This makes sense since he’s a shapeshifting entity, and the expulsion of his evil personae could also play a part in his change in mass.²* YouWouldntLikeMeWhenImAngry: When he gets mad, he stops playing and starts trying to beat whatever angered him to a bloody pulp. Basil is a good example of this: before getting mad, Buu was treating their fight as a fun game, happily tanking everything Basil tried to dish out and just having a blast. When he gets angry because Mr. Satan got caught in the crossfire? Buu ''manhandles'' Basil with a brutal beat-down.²[[/folder]]²²[[folder:Evil Buu]]²!!'''Evil Buu (魔人ブウ 純粋悪, ''Majin Bū Junsui Aku'', "Pure Evil Majin Boo")'''²[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/evil_buu.png]] ²->Voiced by: Creator/BrianDobson (Ocean dub)²->Voiced by: Creator/JustinCook (Funimation dub)²²-->''"You fool! '''I'm''' Majin Buu!"''²²Fat Buu's evil side, released during Fat Buu's FreakOut when Mr. Satan is almost murdered. Evil Buu fights Fat Buu, turns him into chocolate, and eats him. Thus powered up, Evil Buu transforms into Super Buu.²----²* AdaptedOut: Because of his limited screentime, most video games don't mention his assimilation of Fat Buu, or when they do, it happens offscreen, making him TheGhost. The ''Tenkaichi'' games and ''VideoGame/DragonBallHeroes'' are notable exceptions.²* AscendedExtra: His appearance in the manga is so short you barely remember that he was even a thing. In the anime, he goes into an extended fight with Fat Buu and he appears in several games.²* AxCrazy: Upon his birth, he nukes Van Zant out of existence with a huge smile on his face.²* DarkIsEvil: The most characteristic trait in Evil Buu. Its color is dark gray, and has soulless white eyes within black sclera which originated the BlackEyesOfCrazy trope.²* EnemyWithout: He's Fat Buu's evil side who emerged from within him.²* EvilCounterpart: He's Fat Buu's opposite in both personality and appearance.²* KickTheSonOfABitch: Killed Van Zant after he shot Mr. Satan and Bee.²* LeanAndMean: He is the skinniest of all the Buu forms and the second meanest next to Kid Buu.²* LiteralSplitPersonality: He's Buu's evil personified.²* MinorMajorCharacter: Doesn't even show up for 10 minutes, and things go FromBadToWorse once he's through. Specfically he turns into Super Buu, and then into Kid Buu, Buu's original form where he managed to kill off most of the cast.²* NotSoStoic: Gives a crazed smile and laugh as he turns into Super Buu.²* PureIsNotGood: He is the pure evil within Buu's that has taken physical form. The Japanese text even calls him Pure Evil Buu.²* TheQuietOne: The only thing he says is a response to Fat Buu claiming he's the real Buu, calling him a [[YouFool fool]] and saying that ''he'' is the real Buu.²* TheStoic: Most of the fight with Fat Buu he [[PerpetualFrowner never smiles]].²* {{Sadist}}: Takes downright ''horrifying'' pleasure in murdering the thugs who hurt Bee.²* SlasherSmile: After eating Fat Buu, he laughs insanely as he turns into Super Buu.²* ThereCanBeOnlyOne: He very clearly doesn't like the idea of there being another Buu beyond himself. After tracking down the surviving Z Fighters, Piccolo begs him to wait until Goten and Trunks finish training and merge into Gotenks (so they can put up a more stirring fight), which he does, but '''kills every person on Earth''' besides the Z Fighters ''just because he's bored''. Super Buu finally fights and absorbs Piccolo, Gotenks, and Gohan, gaining all of their powers, before Goku and Vegeta fuse into Vegito and nearly pound him to dust -- until deliberately getting absorbed to save the others. Once inside Buu, however, Vegito unfortunately unfuses. Goku and Vegeta successfully remove their friends from Super Buu's body -- along with Fat Buu, whose absence causes Super Buu to transform into the more psychotic Kid Buu.²----²* AchievementsInIgnorance: Implied. When he was trapped in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, he goes into a VillainousBreakdown. He screams, causing a tear in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber and when he does this he stares in bewilderment for a few seconds.²* AndIMustScream: Piccolo attempted this when he trapped Buu within the Time Chamber. Since Buu is an eternal entity, he would live forever in another dimension with no way to escape or die since he can regenerate from atoms. He escaped by, well, [[{{irony}} screaming]]. ²* AssholeVictim: His forced defusing at Vegeta’s hands serves to pave the way for Kid Buu to join the fray, and he’s such a son of a bitch that no one feels a single hint of remorse over ending him.²* ArrogantKungFuGuy: Of all the Buu forms, he fits this the best. Super Buu prides himself on being the strongest in the universe and will throw a tantrum if anyone surpass him in power. Before he absorbs Piccolo, [[UnskilledButStrong he is not that well trained, relying on force and his regeneration]]. He become much more disciplined once he starts absorbing people. ²* AintTooProudToBeg: Practically ''begs for mercy'' when Vegeta is about to rip Fat Buu free, telling him that doing so would effectively erase him. [[AssholeVictim Vegeta doesn’t hesitate.]]²* AWizardDidIt: A case where he was the "wizard". Before ''Anime/DragonBallSuper'' revealed that Potara Fusion has a time limit for mortals, the only explanation anyone, including the Supreme Kais, had for why Vegito defused while inside Super Buu was 'Buu is magic/filled with all sorts of nasty stuff'.²* AxCrazy: Easily the most psychopathic and most sadistic form of Buu. He laughs insanely as he attempts a "suicide" attack to kill Gohan for starters. He also laughs madly as he turned the surviving main cast into chocolate and ate them.²* BadassBoast: While laying a NoHoldsBarredBeatdown on Gohan:²-->'''Buu''': I possess the greatest powers in the universe! And I'll use them ''all'' to kill you!²* BatmanGambit: Pulled this off with ''flawless'' effect against [[spoiler: Gotenks.]]²* BattleStrip: When Super Buu absorbed Gohan, it created a replica of Gohan's uniform/gi, which is obviously a good guy's outfit. Super Buu, objecting to wearing this, tore the shirt off shortly after absorbing Vegito, expecting a new outfit to materialize. [[spoiler:Unfortunately for him, Vegito was NOT absorbed because he protected himself from the absorption process.]]²* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: In an attempt to buy some time for Goten and Trunks, Piccolo [[GodzillaThreshold suggested that Buu should get back to slaughtering the human race]] as [[GoLookAtTheDistraction a distraction]]. Buu did just that in under two minutes. See KillEmAll.²* BerserkButton: Do not deny him his candy. He will get so mad, he'll rip a hole between dimensions...²* BigBad: For the middle stretch of the Buu arc, corresponding to volume 41 and the first third of volume 42. Notably, he's the most powerful villain in the ''Dragon Ball'' manga, as well as the original ''Dragon Ball'' + ''Dragon Ball Z'' animes and movies, especially once he absorbs Gohan.²* BigEater: And unlike before, it's played very dark.²* BigNo: He does this in the time chamber when he finds out that there is no chocolate or other sweets to eat in there and again when Vegeta tears down the pod in his head containing Fat Buu, spelling his doom.²* BishounenLine: As he absorbs more and more people, his bodily features start to become more defined and humanoid. He gets a nose from Piccolo, fingers from Gotenks (in the manga), and a chin from Gohan. Fat Buu also had a case of this, as his sclerae were white instead of black after absorbing the Dai Kaioshin.²* BlackEyesOfEvil: Black sclera, red irises, all malevolence.²* BloodKnight: The only reason he didn't destroy the Earth was to find a strong opponent.²* BreakThemByTalking: To Gohan after absorbing Piccolo and Gotenks, using words they would say and [[MyGreatestFailure his inability to protect them]] in order to mentally torture him. This is a case of DubText as Buu never played mind games with Gohan in the original Japanese version to the extent that the original dub does. Although he does mention Piccolo:²-->'''Super Buu:''' "Always watch closely your opponent's movements". I thought Piccolo taught you that!²-->'''Gohan:''' Shut up!²* BeyondTheImpossible: ²** Leaving the Hyperbolic Time Chamber without using the doorway was supposed to be impossible. Piccolo was counting on this to trap Buu inside in case Gotenks failed to stop him. Instead, he created a portal to the outside by screaming loud enough. It was so impossible, even Buu was surprised. Afterwards, the trope is deconstructed: if he could do it then anyone with equal or greater power can do it. ²** [[FusionDance Potara Fusion]] was stated by Old Kai to be permanent and irreversible, who himself was a victim of Potara Fusion. Instead, merely being inside Buu's body after being absorbed caused Vegito to separate back into Goku and Vegeta. When ''Super'' rolled around this was politely {{revis|ion}}ed with Gowasu, a much wiser and more experienced Kai from Universe 10, stating that Potara Fusion was permanent only if a Kai was fused, and would otherwise last one hour, and the timing of Vegito defusing inside Buu's body was simply a coincidence. ²* BondVillainStupidity: Averted on '''every level'''. Super Buu is very pragmatic in battle and will not hesitate to kill, eat, or absorb anyone who gets in his way. The worst thing about it is that he does it with a great amount of surprise. No evil laughing, taunting or mocking. Just straight up death. The only instances he'll every draw out a battle is to discover the weakness of his opponents. When he does find out their weaknesses, he will exploit them to devastating effect. Whether it's flaws in power or personality traits of the opponent. Although, he was caught somewhat flat-footed when Gotenks revealed he could go Super Saiyan 3 and would likely have been killed had the fusion not broken apart when it did. Not to mention, he only escaped from the Time Chamber because he threw a temper tantrum, otherwise he would have been trapped in there forever.²* ButtMonkey: Reduced to this by Vegito, being completely unable to do anything meaningful to the fusion, as the Saiyans dominated the fight humiliating him time and again. However, [[KickTheSonOfABitch he totally deserves it for all the monstrous things he did]].²-->'''Vegito:''' It's not much fun being hunted... is it Majin Buu? CUUUUUUUURRSE YOOOOOOOOOU!''²* CantKillYouStillNeedYou: [[spoiler: Revealed to be the reason why he didn't kill Gotenks the minute he defused; he needed him for his plan to beat Gohan.]]²* ClimaxBoss: Despite ultimately becoming the most powerful and arguably smartest villain in the Dragon Ball Z canon, he's not technically the FinalBoss. That's the much dumber and crazier Kid Buu.²* CombatPragmatist: Super Buu will either immediately absorb you if you're stronger than him or turn you into candy. Gotenks and Vegito can attest to that. [[BatmanGambit Something Vegito was counting on]]. [[{{Foil}} Goku]] considers him particularly despicable for this attitude, but Buu disagrees.[[note]]Viz manga translation:[[/note]]²-->'''Goku:''' It's not fair... you keep absorbing people!²-->'''Super Buu:''' Heh heh... you know as well as I do that winning is everything! Well, don't despair. I'll only make you suffer for a little while.²* CrazyPrepared: He's a lot smarter than he looks. For example, after he reverts to a weaker form while fighting Goku, he finds himself outmatched again. Then he points to his head tentacle, which had a piece of it cut off earlier...²-->'''Super Buu:''' ''[after distracting Gohan with inane conversation for a minute]'' Luckily, I left some 'insurance' in case this happened. Why do you think I didn't regenerate this? ''[cue a decapitated piece of Buu jumping out of a rock behind Gohan, absorbing him]''²* DeadpanSnarker: Mostly during his fight with Gotenks, but it shows up other places as well. This is played up more in the Funimation dub of the anime though, whenever he interacts with Goku.²-->'''Super Buu:''' I'm sorry. I interrupted you. You were giving a speech. Something about making me answer for my crimes? Honestly, I was finding it a little cliché. Please, continue.²-->'''Super Buu:''' For your sake, I hope you brought some insurance to back up your claims. But knowing you Goku, you probably don't even know what "insurance" means.²-->'''Super Buu:''' Oh, don't take it too personally, Goku. Everybody fails. Your failure just means the end of the universe. Sorry about that.²* DeathOfPersonality: Being essentially a fusion, he is an entirely separate being than the other two main Buus, Fat and Kid. Detaching Fat Buu, according to Super Buu himself, causes him to "cease to exist". While removing Fat Buu doesn't ''physically'' kill Super Buu, just reverting him to the pure Kid Buu, it still completely erases Super Buu. Taken to a further extreme when Kid Buu is reincarnated as Uub; Super Buu was only possible via a combination of Fat Buu and Kid Buu, both due to their ki and biology. With Kid Buu's 'soul' being reincarnated in a normal human's body now, Super Buu can never be formed again. Instead of being dead in the afterlife, he doesn't exist at all -- he's the only ''Dragon Ball Z'' character, outside of Android 16, to be well and truly ''gone''.²** Majuub from ''GT'' could possibly count as a good reincarnation. Like Super Buu, Majuub is a fusion of Kid Buu (reincarnated as Uub) and Mr. Buu who is much more powerful than his fusees. Majuub also gains some of Super Buu's tactical intelligence. However, he of course doesn't have anything resembling the same personality, so the original Super Buu is still permanently gone in all continuities. ²* DidntSeeThatComing:²** Super Buu didn't foresee Piccolo destroying the door to the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, trapping him in another dimension. He only manages to escape by luck.²** He nearly dies to Gotenks since he didn't know he could become a Super Saiyan 3.²** Buu had no way of planning for Goku returning to life thanks to Old Kai. He also couldn't have known that King Yemma would send Vegeta back after he died to Fat Buu, given Goku the perfect partner to fuse with.²** Vegito creating a barrier to keep himself from being absorb into his body and Vegito planned to be absorbed from the start so he can free his family.²** Vegeta pulling Fat Buu free from his body is something Super Buu didn't see coming.²* DoNotTauntCthulhu: Chi-Chi once slapped him and yelled at him for killing Gohan. Super Buu, without even changing his expression, transformed her into an egg and crushed her right in front of her family and friends.²* DontMakeMeDestroyYou: To his credit, he warns you of the trope above ''not to make him mad''. Oh he'll kill you, unless you bore him, which delays the inevitable. But angering Buu proper is something neither you [[PragmaticVillainy nor he, wants]], as he'll tear down [[RealityWarper the laws of physics around him in a temper tauntrum]], causing the [[ApocalypseHow destruction of the universe]] and him along with it. ²* TheDreaded: As the strongest and most intelligent Buu form and the single most powerful villain in the franchise (in his final form) before ''Super'' and ''GT'' came out, he's this. Just look at [[OhCrap everyone's reactions]] on the Lookout when he shows up. [[BloodKnight Goku]] of all people wants ''no'' part in fighting him, even after removing all his absorptions. Notably, [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness Goku acts remarkably pragmatic in attempting to get rid of him]], ''begging'' Vegeta to fuse and trying to avoid fighting him by taking him down with internal sabotage instead. When Kid Buu shows up, Goku reverts back to his normal personality, [[HonorBeforeReason refusing fusion with Vegeta]] even after he loses their first battle, refusing to call for back-up even after Gohan is revived, playing rock-paper-scissors with Vegeta to see who fights first, and openly [[WorthyOpponent complimenting]] his opponent. [[SpiritedCompetitor Kid Buu and Fat Buu, he has fun with]]; Super Buu, he just wants ''gone'' as quickly as possible.²* DumbMuscle: Compared to [[WickedCultured Frieza]] and Cell, he comes across as a brute with a few surprisingly good ideas. This changes [[GeniusBruiser once he absorbs Piccolo]]. There's also the middle form he assumes when all the people he absorbed are taken out of him, where he turns into a musclebound monster (this is the form Kid Buu took after absorbing the most beefy Supreme Kai).²* EstablishingCharacterMoment: He shows himself to be more ruthless than Fat Buu by turning into liquid and [[CruelAndUnusualDeath flying down Smitty's throat until he explodes]]. He then flies straight for the Lookout since he can now sense energies.²* ExactWords: When Buu shows up at Kami's Lookout demanding the WorthyOpponent Goku promised him (Gotenks), Piccolo attempts to stall for time by telling Buu there are still humans left on Earth for him to kill. Buu proceeds to use his Human Extinction Attack to slaughter every last human on Earth, in less than two minutes, without even bothering to leave Kami's Lookout.²* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: Super Buu still loves Hercule and Bee as friends. He spares the two after his creation in favor of seeking other fighters to go up against. And, while using an attack designed to wipe out everyone on Earth in two minutes, multiple shots stray towards the two, but always stray off course at the last second as if he physically can't bring himself to hurt them.²* EvenEvilHasStandards: When Vegita threatens to rip Fat Buu out of his body, Super Buu is ''terrified'' and begs him not to. Whilst primarily terrified of [[LossOfIdentity losing himself as a result]], he also uses phrases like "that's the last thing you should do!", implying he's also genuinely ''scared'' of what Kid Buu will do without Fat Buu's moderating influence.²* EvilCounterpart: To Goku. He has certain similarities, such as being a BigEater, lacking eloquence, being able to quickly learn techniques, and having a tendency to seek a strong enemy, as well as being [[GeniusBruiser surprisingly intelligent]] (especially in regards to combat tactics) despite his crude manner. ²* EvilHasABadSenseOfHumor:²-->'''Buu''': Oh, good. I've been looking for a chance to use this. Knock-knock! '''''[[SuddenlyShouting KNOCK-KNOCK!!!]]'''''\²'''Vegeta''': Uh, who's there?\²'''Buu''': Buu.\²'''Vegeta''': Buu who?\²'''Buu''': Aww, don't cry. Everyone has to die sometime. (''EvilLaugh'')²* EvilGloating: He's very fond of these after absorbing Piccolo. He uses these on top of his BreakThemByTalking approach. He rips Gohan apart mentally by bragging how he took his brother and mentor, and how they are upset at him for letting them be absorb and calls him a failure. When he's ready to kill Gohan, he mocks him for being worthless since his father wasn't holding his hand. Once he takes Gohan after the fusion with Gotenks breaks, he spends several minutes teasing Goku about failing to save Gohan and how his failure meant the end of the Earth.²* EvilIsBigger: He's the tallest form of Buu, standing at over eight feet, and noticeably towers over everyone he fights. ²* EvilSoundsDeep: Deeper than Fat Buu and Kid Buu, at least. In the English version specifically, his voice gets much deeper after he absorbs Gohan and Piccolo. Justin Cook gives him a deeper, more menacing voice right off the bat in the ''Kai'' dub.²* FatalFlaw: Like almost all the major villains, his {{Pride}}. [[VillainBall Unlike most]], however, Buu is usually smart enough not to allow his pride to get in the way of the more [[CombatPragmatist pragmatic solution]], like trying to kill Goku and Vegeta before they can fuse, despite thinking it wouldn't make a difference. At the same time, Buu either kills or absorbs ''anyone'' who challenges him as being the strongest in the universe, [[FlawExploitation something Vegito used to his advantage]] to get into Buu's body to save his friends. This eventually leads to Super Buu being [[CessationOfExistence undone]].²* FauxAffablyEvil: One feature that sets him apart from his other forms. Super Buu can be talkative and vaguely reasoned with, even conversing with his opponents for fun. However, he is extremely cruel and brutal to anyone not on his level of power.²* FlawExploitation: ²** Super Buu exploits Goten and Trunks' stubbornness, arrogance, and pride to trick them into fusion into Gotenks, as a Super Saiyan 3 no less, and then proceeds to absorb them. He even notes that there is a time limit to how long Goten and Trunks can stay fused and declares that he will make quick work of Gohan, which he does.²** Gohan is called out for his lack of situational awareness and combat instincts more than once in the manga. Buu takes advantage of this to lay a clever trap with his head tentacle, leading to Gohan being absorbed.²** It's heavily implied that Super Buu did this during his battle with Gotenks, exploiting Super Saiyan 3's poor stamina to win despite his power disadvantage. Halfway through their fight, Buu hides in a crater created by Gotenks and masks his ki, making Gotenks think he was dead. A frustrated Gotenks, not sure if he's really dead, then off-handedly mentions that he only has a few more minutes left of this form after Buu made him wait around so much. ''Immediately after'', there's a ReactionShot of a surprised Buu, followed by a {{Beat}} of Gotenks with Buu off-screen, and then Buu blasting out of the crater back into the fight. After he absorbs Gotenks, the first thing he says before fighting Gohan is that he'll try to kill Gohan quickly because Gotenks' Super Saiyan 3 form causes him to lose energy at a rapid rate, showing further awareness of this weakness.²** In the same vein, Vegito exploits this back at Buu himself, exploiting his pride in his strength to get absorbed, where Vegito has a chance to attack him from the inside out.²* {{Foil}}: To Goku. Despite their many similarities in personality, they could not contrast more sharply in methods and goals. Super Buu uses his vast [[SuperpoweredEvilSide power]] and [[SmarterThanYouLook intellect]] to [[TheSociopath sadistically torture and murder]] any competitors, [[PragmaticVillainy prematurely if he can]]. Goku, despite his love of combat, [[MartialPacifist dislikes killing and hurting people who can't fight back]], and [[SpiritedCompetitor LOVES his enemies growing strong enough to challenge him]] ([[AlwaysSomeoneBetter or stronger]]) for the purpose of self-improvement. This is epitomized by their respective reactions to their only true combat losses of the arc. Goku [[WorthyOpponent wishes his opponent to be reincarnated as a good guy so they can have a rematch under friendly conditions.]] Super Buu [[SoreLoser throws a temper tantrum]] and nearly [[OmnicidalManiac destroys the entire universe]] just to spite his opponent. ²** To Fat Buu as well, for much the same reasons. This is emphasized more in the original Japanese audio, where Fat Buu and Super Buu have the same voice actor, showing that they're split personalities of the same person.²* ForTheEvulz: Though unlike Kid Buu, Super Buu was at least a bit more interested in fighting a strong opponent rather than random destruction (the first thing he does is fly to Kami's Lookout and demand to fight the "strong opponent" he was promised). [[DoubleSubverted The second thing he did is kill every human on earth in one attack because he was bored.]]²* GeniusBruiser: Not only is Super Buu extremely powerful, but he OutGambitted '''everyone''' (though mostly because even before he absorbed Piccolo [[SmarterThanYouLook he tended to act much stupider than he actually was]]) and it wasn't just a basic case of Super Buu outsmarting them or getting lucky, he covertly came up several plans to become the strongest in the universe and with every plan he came up with, he thought of several back-up plans as well. He also manipulated many of the heroes into making himself seem like less of a threat and when the opportunity presented itself from the heroes being arrogant, he would not only take advantage of it but also made sure that there were some contingency plans if things were to go against him. And it worked like a charm, because he technically ''never loses a battle''. And any battle that it seems like he is losing, he's losing on purpose because it's all a part of his plan. It took the StoryBreakerPower of [[ShowyInvincibleHero Vegito]] '''just to slow him down.''' [[spoiler: Although in the case of Vegito, he was purposely prolonging the battle so he could be absorbed and rescue the others taken by Buu. Otherwise, he would have killed Buu easily]]. Also, while it's not really elaborated upon, he was able to accurately calculate the entire planet's population just by walking around the Lookout for a minute and then mentally sort through ''billions'' of unique ki signatures in order to only kill who he wanted to. It's later revealed that in this form Buu has two gods absorbed, who presumably add a ton of mystical and universal knowledge (though Super Buu never uses it).²* FromASingleCell: In this form, it's revealed that even if his solid form is destroyed, he can reconstitute himself from his own ''smoke particles''. Every particle at the molecular level has to be destroyed to end him. That said, the anime implies there are mental limits to this, as during the fight with Vegito [[CurbStompBattle he gets wrecked so hard]] that at one point Vegito flat-out points out he hasn't been regenerating several previous injuries and ''Buu is shocked to realize he's right'' before quickly focusing and repairing them.²* HateSink: While Fat Buu avoids this trope for his childish nature and Kid Buu is just a mindless evil, Super Buu seems to invoke this trope, since he's a psychopathic creature who is fully aware of his actions and doesn't care. He dips into this territory when he kills every human outside of Kami Tower with a sadistic glee (except for Mr Satan, who he has a soft spot for); this is conveniently called Human Extinction Attack, bringing the human race to extinction. He also killed Goten's mother, Chi-Chi in front on him. And for bonus, he's also an [[{{jerkass}} outright prick]] [[PsychopathicManChild who has tantrums]] when things don't go his way.²* HulkingOut: The "Ultra Buu" form he takes between losing his Super Buu form and reverting back to Kid Buu is a result of absorbing the South Supreme Kai eons ago. It rendered him an ogre-like berserker who beats on his chest and roars unintelligibly. However, because Fat Buu was actually the Buu who had part of the South Supreme Kai in him, he did not retain this state and it was just a holdover that wore off before he fully changed back into Kid Buu.²* HumiliationConga: His entire fight with Vegito. After absorbing Gohan, Buu was closed to being invincible. Then Vegito came and made an utter fool out of him. Vegito didn't even need to go Super Saiyan (in the anime at least) and he beat Buu as a piece of candy.²* {{Hypocrite}}: After getting his butt beaten by Vegito, Buu says Vegito cheated by fusion together. ''This'' coming from the same person who absorbed Gotenks, Piccolo, and Gohan and ''bragged'' about it. Vegito points out the hypocrisy by saying that Buu ate his sons to become stronger.²* InvincibleVillain: ²** He never technically loses a fight. 18/Krillin/Yamcha/Tenshinhan, Piccolo, Super Saiyan 2 Vegeta, Super Saiyan 3 Goku, Super Saiyan Gotenks, Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks, and Ultimate Gohan [[note]]he briefly tangled with Gohan earlier and was losing, but the fight was inconclusive due to Buu fleeing. He came back, absorbed Gotenks, and stomped Gohan[[/note]] are all easily defeated by him via various methods, ranging from BatmanGambit to sneak absorption to straight up brute force. Even Super Vegito doesn't actually beat him, despite possessing the capability to; he gets absorbed intentionally in a gambit to free his friends, but this ends up backfiring when he defuses due to Buu's BizarreAlienBiology, and Super Buu subsequently stomps Goku and Vegeta apart, mostly because they can't kill him inside his own body where they're the size of insects. In the end, he's taken down by internal sabotage, when Vegeta yanks out Fat Buu's pod just as Super Buu is about to kill Goku.²** Epitomized during his fight with Gotenks; Gotenks blows him to smithereens, then goes around and vaporizes all of the pieces to keep him from regenerating. Buu reforms from the smoke.²** Though, it's abundantly clear that [[ShowyInvincibleHero Vegito]] had ''absolutely'' [[ILetYouWin let him win]] (the guy gave him a countdown for death). If he was serious, he could have destroyed him mere moments after transforming into a Super Saiyan. Not to mention he only won by luck against Gotenks, whose fusion broke seconds before he could kill him.²* {{Jerkass}}: He's extremely aggressive and confrontational.²* JustToyingWithThem: Does this repeatedly in anime {{filler}}, like just about every Dragon Ball villain. Notably and uniquely averted in the manga.²** He spends almost an entire episode beating [=SS2=] Goku and [=SS2=] Vegeta after he absorbs Gohan before finally deciding to kill them, even though he's powerful enough to smite them in an instant at this point. Judging by the number of power-ups he did against Vegito in the next couple episodes,[[note]]Before generating the energy sphere; after Vegito transforms into a Super Saiyan; and while releasing his Vice Scream. The first one is particularly notable, as he fully expected that level of power to be able to easily overwhelm base Vegito who was [[NoSell no-selling]] hits from his initial level.[[/note]] it's implied that the power he used to beat them up was far below even his base, non-absorbed form. In the manga, Goku and Vegeta just fused instantly, so he never got the chance to touch them- and if he did there's no reason to believe that he wouldn't have just killed them immediately like he said he would.²** He does the same thing when fighting [=SS2=] Vegeta and Goku again inside his body in his base form, smiling the whole time, letting himself get blown apart by attacks even his weaker fat form had no trouble tanking (while laughing), and even explicitly saying that he's playing around midway through the fight. He only goes for the kill after Goku and Vegeta are both too injured/exhausted to provide any more entertainment, by which point it's too late. This entire sequence is {{filler}}- in the manga Vegeta went straight to ripping out Mr. Buu's pod before Super Buu could do anything.²** Gotenks-Buu in the manga says he's trying to kill Gohan from the start and demonstrates this by instantly locking Gohan in a ki restraint and shooting an amplified Kamehameha at him as his first move.[[note]]Anime!Buu does this too, but only after a full six minutes of fighting.[[/note]] In the anime, he drags out the fight far more. This case is at least more justified than the previous two, since unlike those, he didn't have any reason to believe that he needed to get things done quickly. ²* KickTheDog:²** He turned Chi-Chi into an egg and then smashed her for annoying him.²** He ate all of Goku's friends on Kami's Tower (except Dende) after he escaped from the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. Then he gloated about it to Gotenks while patting his stomach.²** Once he has Gotenks and Piccolo absorbed, he [[BreakingSpeech verbally breaks down Gohan by laying down the guilt of failing to protect them]].²** After absorbing Gohan, Buu rubs in Goku's face about his inability to save anyone, not even his own son.²* KickTheSonOfABitch: His killing of Smitty. Granted, his way of killing him (Changing into a liquid then forcefully entering his body until he exploded) was pretty nasty, but keep in mind that Smitty had gone along with Van Zant, the guy who [[ApocalypseAnarchy used Majin Buu's rampage as an excuse to go on a killing spree of his own]], on said killing spree.²* KillEmAll: His [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin Human Extinction Attack]], as it is literally an attack that '''kills nearly every human on Earth''', with the only survivors either being three things; one being Buu's MoralityPet, being strong enough to block the blast or being on Kami's tower at the time. And he later killed everyone there anyway.²* KnightOfCerebus: The first thing he does is pour himself down a gunman's mouth till he popped like a balloon, and it goes downhill when he manages to '''wipe out almost all of humanity with one attack''', specifically the only ones that weren't affected were by [[MoralityPet morality]], too strong or not in the direction of the attack. He then kills every last one of Goku's friends while Gotenks is trapped in the Time Chamber by turning them into chocolate and eating them. He goes so far as to murder Chi Chi right in front of her son and ''brag about it'' later. It's also notable that, while the likes of Cell, Frieza, and various minor villains constantly reappear in the anime and movies to get [[SoLastSeason humiliated]], Super Buu never shows up again past his own arc in ''any'' material except games (bar flashbacks and hallucinations, where he's treated as TheDreaded).²* KnuckleCracking: Cracking his neck is practically his CatchPhrase.²* LaserGuidedKarma: He is one of the most vile characters in the entire series, second only to Frieza and King Piccolo. He also goes technically undefeated since he absorbed anyone stronger than him and Vegito threw his fight. Which is why it is somewhat fitting that he is the only villain [[spoiler: until Super]] to be ''erased''. After Vegeta pulled Fat Buu free, Super Buu dissolves away, reverting Buu back to his original form who has a different personality. Once Kid Buu is killed, he is reborn into Uub, meaning that Super Buu can never return in any form in this world or the next. A fitting end to such a JerkAss.²* LaughablyEvil: Despite being the most serious and devious of the Buus, he still has some good scenes like this, like freaking out when he gets trapped in the time chamber, or boredly drinking a soda and reading a magazine while Gotenks tries to make a big speech.²* LightIsNotGood: Very light in color, but not good.²* LogicalWeakness: Assimilating others helps Buu grow stronger by gaining their powers, abilities, and memories. However, this ''also'' forces Buu to absorb their ''weaknesses'', too--both physical and mental. His absorption of Gotenks gave him a major power boost, but that only lasted as long as their fusion limit, at which point he was left with the far weaker Goten and Trunks. In addition, because his absorption process basis itself off of who the strongest person he absorbed was, his power drastically weakens when Gotenks defuses because the next strongest person he has is [[CantCatchUp Piccolo]], who he had absorbed because he wanted his intelligence. If not for him absorbing the even stronger then Gotenks Gohan, Goku was confident that a combination of himself and Gohan could defeat him.²* LossOfIdentity: Invoked; he's well aware that without Fat Buu's presence in his body, the Buu that he is will completely stop existing in any form. This idea leaves him legitimately ''terrified'', causing him to outright beg Vegeta not to free Fat Buu.²* LostFoodGrievance: The entire reason he was able to escape the Hyperbolic Time Chamber after Piccolo blew up the entrance. He was horrified at the thought of never being able to eat candy again.²* LovesTheSoundOfScreaming: After seemingly defeating Vegito, he proceeds to go on a massively destructive rampage through West City in celebration. During said rampage, he openly wishes that he didn't kill every last human on Earth earlier, as destroying things isn't as fun when he can't hear his victims' screams.²* MakeMeWannaShout: He can scream so loudly it tears holes in the fabric of reality. At one point he does this to the point that the Kais fear a chain reaction that could collapse the universe will result if he tears through too many dimensional barriers at once. Vegito stops him before it goes that far.²* ManipulativeBastard: Super Buu's surprisingly high intellect and cunning caught a lot of people off-guard in the Buu Arc as he ran rings around the protagonists, making himself look much stupider than he truly was to put the heroes in false sense of security and then strike when they weren't expecting it. It got to the point where he was acting like the TheChessmaster and was playing his opponets like pawns. ²* MoralEventHorizon: InUniverse - Gotenks didn't take Buu seriously, despite him killing 80% of the planet during his rampaged. Even as the more ruthless Super Buu who crushed Goten's mom after transforming her into an egg wasn't enough to make Gotenks be serious. It's not until Buu ate everyone on the Lookout, including Trunks' mom, that Gotenks became righteously pissed and swear to kill Buu for everything he has done.²* NearVillainVictory: Probably the closest example in the whole series. After enacting Plan B and taking Gohan off guard to absorb him, Buu has basically won. ''Every'' member of the cast is either dead or absorbed, except Goku, who is completely incapable of opposing Buu in any way, and is so desperate that he considers fusing with Mr. Satan, even though he knows it would be pointless and Buu would still be capable of killing him in one punch. On top of that, he goes straight for the kill, which Goku can only slightly delay by teleporting to the other side of the planet. Luckily for the universe, King Yamma brought back Vegeta giving Goku some fusion fodder, triggering the series of events that lead to Super Buu's reversion into Kid Buu,. But if Vegeta hadn't been sent back or, hell, had even been five seconds late, the series would have ended on a ''very'' depressing note. This even more so the case retroactively, after ''Super'' revealed that he could have killed Beerus without ever meeting him just by killing Kibito Kai... which Buu ''was'' going to do, according to the Old Kai himself.[[note]]In chapter 501, he notes that if Super Buu kills Goku and Gohan, he'll eventually make his way to the World of the Kais.[[/note]] No one would have been willing or able to stop him.²* NightmareFace: Several insane expressions and facial deformities that make him quite disturbing.²* NoChallengeEqualsNoSatisfaction: Much like Cell, he sees himself as the strongest in the universe and [[BloodKnight wants to test his ability against strong opponents]]. Anyone who can't provide him with a challenge is immediately killed. At the same time, he only wants to fight people he ''knows'' he can beat. When fighting against an opponent who completely outclasses him like Ultimate Gohan and Vegito, he has a [[VillainousBreakdown breakdown]].²* NoNonsenseNemesis: His first move (after gruesomely killing a bystander) is to fly straight to Kami's Lookout and demand that Piccolo present the "worthy opponent" that he had been promised (Gotenks). When Piccolo tries to stall for time by pointing out that there are people left on Earth for Buu to kill, Buu immediately annihilates just about every bystander left on the planet Earth with an energy wave he calls the "Human Extinction" attack, to the horror of everyone. He then demands, with no further distractions, to see his opponent. He later declares that even if Goku were to [[FusionDance fuse]] with Gohan or Vegeta, they still couldn't defeat him, but then immediately adds that he isn't going to take any chances and will just kill them now to be certain. His big mistake in the end was to humor Goku to merged with someone since he fully believed it was futile. [[SpannerInTheWorks He had no way knowing that Vegeta would return]].²* NoSell: He'll do this when he feels it would be more intimidating than [[WillfullyWeak letting himself get blown apart]] [[HealingFactor only to regenerate]]. He stands boredly while Gotenks attacks him, at least until the latter pulls out the Kamikaze Ghosts and later Super Saiyan 3. A powerful sneak attack by Super Saiyan 3 Goku in the anime also does absolutely nothing to Gotenks-Buu, despite how effective sneak attacks normally are in this series, hinting at the massive disparity in their powers.[[note]]In the same arc, Vegeta knocked out his peer opponent, Goku, with ''one'' sneak attack, and that was a simple punch, as opposed to the charged up energy attack followed by dozens of energy bullets that Goku used. In an earlier arc, Yamcha managed to wound Kami with a similar energy ball attack when he struck him by surprise, despite Kami being about twice as strong as Yamcha at that point per official PowerLevels.[[/note]] ²* ObfuscatingStupidity: He appears to be a mere brute, but in reality he was playing everyone the whole time. The act was quite effective too, given that in the original manga, Gohan outright calls him a "retard", and is completely taken off guard by Buu's plan. That said, he ''did'' legitimately rely more on brute force and regeneration before absorbing Piccolo, and only used his backup plans when it was clear he couldn't win with those alone.²* OhCrap: When Vegeta severs his connection to Fat Buu, which causes him to regress to Kid Buu.²* OrificeInvasion: The first thing he does is liquefy and pour himself down Smitty's throat until the guy pops like a balloon. We aren't dealing with the big silly fat man anymore. He tried it on Vegito, but it backfired when Vegito proved strong enough to compress Buu into a ball inside his own body.²* OutGambitted²** Super Buu out-gambits everyone to the point he could be the trope image. He out-smarted Piccolo by killing everyone in the planet when Piccolo suggested he amuse himself with the survivors to buy more time so Trunks and Goten could train, calculating the entire population in seconds to do so. He recognized Piccolo's attempts to stall him both on the way to the time chamber (noting that they passed the same landmark twice) and right before entering (when Piccolo offered him food, he declined and outright said "you're stalling"), forcing Piccolo to cut both attempts short. He defeated the more powerful Gotenks by outlasting his Super Saiyan 3, which Piccolo thought could kill him, by hiding and masking his ki for a good chunk of the fight until Gotenks let it slip that he only had two minutes left. He escaped certain death at Gohan's hands by initiating his self-destruct near Piccolo and the kids, forcing Gohan to abandon the battle to save them, and then lowered his ki and regenerated far away. He used Gotenks' arrogance against him to convince him to fuse, distracted him with insults while carefully maneuvering a piece of goo to take him off guard, and absorbed him along with Piccolo to create the nearly invincible Super Fusion Buu that wrecked Gohan. He recognized Gohan's attempt to stall out the fusion immediately (having used the same trick himself), and stated he would finish the battle as quickly as possible while always ''physically'' verifying Gohan's presence and never falling for the "masking your ki" trick. When Goku showed up, he made sure they couldn't fuse and when his time ran out with Gotenks, he set up a back-up trap to absorb a distracted Gohan, becoming even more powerful. His only real failure was not killing Goku and instead humoring him to merge with someone, the only people left were Dende and Mr. Satan. Then again, how could even he predict Vegeta would come back since he died earlier against the much weaker Fat Buu.²** Even though he is the ChessMaster, even Super Buu has been out-gambitted. He was nearly killed by Gotenks' Kamikaze Ghosts, ''twice''. The first time when he arrogantly hit one, thinking it was harmless, and the second when they tricked him into lowering his guard (though both times he knew he could regenerate, so it's debatable how much danger he was in). Piccolo also one-upped Buu by trapping him in the time chamber by blowing up the door and Buu only escaped because he threw a tantrum that broke dimensions, something that surprised even Buu. Finally, he fell for Vegito's trap hook line and sinker. Vegito's plan was only spoiled because he de-merged. So despite all his planning, Super Buu was nearly done in several times and managed to get by on luck, much like the heroes.²* OutOfFocus: From a meta-perspective, similar to [[Characters/DragonBallCell Cell]]: despite being the most powerful and effective of Buu's incarnations and lasting much longer than Kid Buu (and about as long as Fat Buu) as the BigBad, he gets the least amount of focus in modern media of any ''Z'' BigBad outside of the movie villains ([[Characters/DragonBallBroly and even then...]]). Part of this is due to the DeaderThanDead nature of his defeat: he neither gets resurrected as a villain (like Frieza in filler/movies/''Super''/GT/games or Cell in filler/GT/games) nor does he become a member of the supporting cast (like Piccolo, Vegeta, the Androids, Fat Buu, and eventually Uub). But even independent of that, he's the most likely to get left out of merchandise and games of Buu's three main forms. He doesn't appear at all in ''VideoGame/DragonBallFighterZ'' while both Fat and Kid Buu do (both of them even [[CompositeCharacter taking his moves]]), usually doesn't get his various forms when he ''does'' show up in games, and is barely referenced after his demise while Kid Buu is referenced constantly in both GT and Super (though InUniverse this is probably because the characters themselves have no reason to make a distinction and just classify the two as the same being- not exactly incorrectly either). The only time either reference him are in very, ''very'' brief flashbacks/dream sequences. On top of that, in the ''Xenoverse'' series he plays a very small role in the story, only gets his base form represented (plus his Gohan-absorbed form in a piece of DLC in ''2''), ''and'' isn't featured as a mentor option (meaning he misses out on increased character interaction and personality tidbits), which even [[BitCharacter Bit Characters]] like Zarbon and Bojack got. Even the ''Heroes'' game and promotional material excludes him in favor of more screen time and WhatIf forms for Kid Buu.²* PainfulTransformation: When Super Buu is forced to revert back to his original form after Vegeta tears Fat Buu from his body, he spends several minutes screaming in absolute agony. It's hard to say if the transformation was more mental than physical, but chances are it's a little bit of both.²* PoliteVillainsRudeHeroes: After absorbing Piccolo, he becomes more well spoken and politer, especially compared to the playful and cruder Vegito. This goes into FauxAffablyEvil since it makes him crueler and more sadistic.²* {{Pride}}: Like so many villains, he takes a lot of pride in being the strongest in the universe and won't allow anyone who is stronger than him exist. [[FatalFlaw This eventually leads to his downfall]].²* PsychopathicManchild: He starts throwing a tantrum when things aren't going his way. Like when he finds out there's no candy to eat in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, or when Vegito is whooping his ass.²* PsychoticSmirk: He's prone to this, doing it almost as often as the SlasherSmile.²* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: In the Funimation dub Buu brutally takes Gohan apart using the memories of Piccolo, Goten, and Trunks to tell him why he fails as a hero and is a disgrace to Piccolo's teachings. Probably the most biting comment is Buu telling Gohan that he's nothing since his dad isn't holding his hand.²* RedEyesTakeWarning: Initially, Super Buu is shown with eerie and pale white eyes, but after Gotenks punches his face a few times in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, he gets angry and they erupt into a permanent red color, and apparently his tongue goes from being pink to a more demonic blue. It was originally an animation error where Akira Toriyama had to point out that the animation team was miscoloring Buu's eyes (and tongue), but in ''Anime/DragonBallZKai'', the moment his eyes go red is edited into a MarkedChange where Super Buu's fairly recent evolution from Evil Buu after integrating Fat Buu finally solidified and he became that much more sinister-looking as the evil side fully took over and pushed out the good.²* {{Sadist}}: Unlike Fat Buu, [[ObliviouslyEvil who doesn't know or care about pain]], due to his heightened intellect, especially after absorbing Piccolo, he understands how to cause the greatest pain both physically and more importantly psychologically as seen with Gohan with his [[BreakThemByTalking breaking speech]]. He took joy in absorbing Gohan in front of Goku and then mockingly calling him dad. He also rubs Goku's inability to save anyone in his face. As mentioned earlier though, this is all DubText as Super Buu didn't do any of this in the original Japanese dialogue.²* ShootTheMedicFirst: Immediately attempts to kill Dende after he sees him healing Gohan.²* SlouchOfVillainy: With or without a chair, Super Buu has ''terrible'' posture. His iconic pose is a standing slouch, shoulders slumped and head cocked to one side as he regards his foes with amusement, boredom, or some combination of the above. It serves to indicate his RubberMan nature and to set up a striking contrast between his rude, crude, LowerClassLout attitude and the more strait-laced, aristocratic villains of previous arcs (who carry themselves much more rigidly).²* SmarterThanYouLook: Even before absorbing Piccolo and getting his intelligence, Super Buu was far more intelligent than he let on, with several of the Z-Fighters often dismissing him as DumbMuscle before realizing they had been OutGambitted. Case in point: when Buu showed up on Kami's Lookout demanding the WorthyOpponent Goku promised him (Gotenks), Piccolo tried to stall for time to give Goten and Trunks time to perfect the FusionDance by telling Buu to go out and keep terrorizing and killing humans, knowing the Dragon Balls can be used to revive everyone who dies. While Piccolo expected Buu to fly across the world and personally kill every last human himself, Buu instead uses a BeamSpam attack to wipe out every last human on Earth in the span of a few minutes, without even leaving the Lookout as he did.²* SmugSuper: After absorbing Gotenks, he took his time picking apart Gohan both physically and mentally since he knew Gohan would be helpless before him. He gets even more smug after absorbing Gohan, going as far as to let Goku try to merge with someone since he is certain that he is invincible.²* TheSociopath: '''Yes''', on par with Frieza and his sociopathy seems to grow as it absorbs warriors, especially when he absorbs Piccolo. He has different strategies to cause physical and ([[DubText in the dub]]) psychological pain to other beings.²* SuperSenses: UpToEleven. He walks around the perimeter of Kami's Lookout, and then uses the [[KillEmAll Human Extinction Attack]]. Meaning he not only sensed and calculated the population of Earth in one minute, he perfectly tracked every single sapient being on it with his ki sensing and perfectly placed '''billions''' of blasts directly through their torsos. While still remaining precise enough to not damage the environment or hurt anyone he didn't want to (like Satan).²** He's able to recognize Videl as Satan's daughter by her scent.²** His ki sensing skills are implied to be particularly potent even compared to practiced masters like Piccolo. He was the only one able to sense Gohan's power steadily growing in the Kaioshin Realm, and the only one not surprised when Gohan showed it off later. Buu had planned for it.²* SweetTooth: He turns his victims into sweets and until Vegito, it usually spelled the end of his enemies. In fact, he warps reality to get out of the Hyperbolic Time Chamber in order to get more food.²* ToServeMan: But not before turning them into candy.²* UnderestimatingBadassery: ²** One of the reasons Gotenks lost the battle was his refusal to take Buu seriously until the very end.²** He in turn calls Vegito a PaperTiger, certain that he can easily defeat the fused Saiyan. He was very, ''very'' wrong.²* UnskilledButStrong: He is more skilled than Fat Buu since he is able to sense energy and is more intelligent, however, he still heavily relies on his regeneration and power to get ahead. He becomes much more skilled after he absorbs Gotenks, Gohan, and especially Piccolo.²* VilerNewVillain: Contrasting the more sympathetic Fat Buu, Super Buu is portrayed as an unsympathetic villain who enjoys the destruction he causes and knows what he's doing is wrong but doesn't care, as opposed to Fat Buu [[ObliviouslyEvil who doesn't know]].²* VillainousBreakdown²** He has a minor one once Gohan returns and beats him using only physical attacks. He gets ''really'' mad when Gohan calls him Majin Bo Bo (retarded in the Japanese text).²** Forced into it by Vegito. He nearly breaks the universe.²** When Vegeta is about to pull Good Buu free from his pod, he ''flips'' out and ''begs'' Vegeta not to, saying that [[CessationOfExistence he won't be him anymore. Vegeta does so and Super Buu is gone, becoming Kid Buu]].²* VillainousGlutton: Even more than Fat Buu, and unlike with the former, it's played very darkly.²* VillainRespect: Piccolo is a [[CantCatchUp weakling]] at this stage of the series and everyone points it out, including Buu himself. However, he still decides to absorb Piccolo in addition to Gotenks because he considers the Nameless Namekian to be valuable for his brainpower. Most likely he decided that based on the various tactics that Piccolo used to stall him,[[note]]Telling Buu he could have fun killing Earth's remaining humans; pointing to Videl and telling him "Mr. Satan's daughter wants you to wait"; leading him the "long way" to the room; trying to offer him food before going in.[[/note]] the trap he set in the time chamber, and the instructions he gave Gotenks, who he coached during the fight. [[OutGambitted Even if Buu outplayed him at every turn]], he clearly left a good impression on the djinn. This also [[HiddenDepths shows]] that, despite appearing to be DumbMuscle, Buu is perceptive and values attributes other than raw power.²* VillainousValor: Unlike most other villains, he starts out below the heroes. He finds himself outmatched by Gotenks once he gets serious and is completely beating down by Gohan after he gets his power-up. He gets around this with deception and a few surprisingly good plans in which he absorbs anyone stronger than him.²* VillainsOutShopping: Zigzagged; he gets bored with no-one around (the heroes are trying to figure out how to make a successful attack against him, and he's not only somewhat concerned about it), and decides to get a snack at a bakery, saying, "no sense destroying the world on an empty stomach". Well, he doesn't pay for anything, but then, the bakery and the town itself is deserted since he killed every last human on Earth earlier.²* WorfEffect:²** Super Buu, who is far more powerful than Fat Buu, gets his butt kicked by Gohan after he gets his major power-up. The same Gohan that Fat Buu easily defeated.²** After he absorbs Gotenks, Piccolo, and Gohan, he is close to invincible and becomes, at that point, the strongest being in the history of the franchise. Then Vegito comes and makes a complete pansy out of him. It's one of the most one-sided battles in the series. To add insult to injury, Vegito only needs one SuperMode transformation out of three to do this.²* WorthyOpponent: Much like Cell, Buu's idea of a worthy opponent is someone who doesn't die in a couple of hits. He despises anyone being his equal or, god-forbid, stronger than him.²* WouldHitAGirl: He had no problem turning Chi-Chi into an egg and smooshing it, and later killed and ''ate'' Videl, Marron, Bulma, and Android 18.²* WouldHurtAChild: He had no problem fighting Goten and Trunks, or turning Krillin and 18's infant daughter Marron into candy and eating her along with the rest of Goku's friends.²* XanatosSpeedChess: Super Buu is very good at doing this, despite being a [[TheBrute mere thug]] in personality. He noticed Gohan's growing power, so he fought against Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks and tested the limits of his strength and his weaknesses (e.g. fusion limit). After briefly fighting Gohan and finding himself overwhelmed, he goes through an intentional SuperPowerMeltdown, knowing he will regenerate and buys time (and getting Goten and Trunks to recuperate, to fuse again). When he returns he goads Goten and Trunks into fusing again at full power and absorbs Gotenks and Piccolo into his being, deciding 30 minutes is more than enough to handle Gohan (he was right). Goku arrives and the fusion breaks down. Goku says Gohan alone is strong enough to defeat Buu, but then Buu reveals that he planned for this eventuality as well, and had a piece of himself ready to absorb Gohan the whole time, who he goaded into standing still until it was too late. Interestingly, the only character this didn't work on is Vegito, who was [[StoryBreakerPower too strong]], [[SpannerInTheWorks too]] [[CrazyAwesome wily]], [[BatmanGambit and had plans of his own]], as he later found out...²* YouWouldntLikeMeWhenImAngry: Said almost verbatim to Vegito, notable in that it was after he absorbed Gohan, which at this point made him one of the two strongest characters in the series.²* YourMagicsNoGoodHere: The fusion achieved by the Potara earrings is ''supposed'' to be permanent, but when Vegito is absorbed by Super Buu, immediately after lowering the shield he used to avoid being completely integrated into Buu (like Piccolo, Gohan and Gotenks were), there's something about Buu's innards that splits Vegito back into Goku and Vegeta. This is later {{revis|ion}}ed in ''Anime/DragonBallSuper'', where it's revealed that Potara Fusion is ''only'' permanent for Kais. For mortals it simply lasts an hour, and that hour just happened to be up right when he was absorbed. ²[[/folder]]²²[[folder:Kid Buu]] ²!!'''Kid Buu (魔人ブウ 純粋, ''Majin Bū Junsui'', "Pure Majin Boo")'''²[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/card_1003310_character.png]]²->Voiced by: Creator/BrianDobson (Ocean dub)²->Voiced by: Josh Martin (Funimation dub)²²-->''"Me Buu, kill you!"''²²Buu's original form, and the form he takes again in the end. Kid Buu is the purest form of the character, before he absorbed the Kais ages ago. Super Buu is forced back into this form after Fat Buu is separated from him again. Aside from the change in size and power, this also causes a significant decrease in intellect, to the point that this Buu is essentially like an animal. Kid Buu knows nothing but destructive rage and literally destroys the Earth just for fun (the Namek Dragon Balls put it back together again.) He then ''rips a hole in reality'' to do the same to the Other World, but is confronted by Goku, Vegeta, and Fat Buu. The latter two manage to hold Kid Buu off while Goku gathers his biggest Spirit Bomb ever, which finally ends Kid Buu's reign of terror.²²As Kid Buu dies, Goku pleads to him to come back as a good guy in his next life so they can have a fair fight. He does just that, and ten years later, Goku meets Kid Buu's reincarnation -- Uub.²----²* AdaptationalBadass / AdaptationalWimp: An odd case of both. ²** In regards to the former, the anime version of the Buu arc inserts two lines stating that this Buu is actually the ''strongest'' version of Buu. But since the anime didn't bother to change anything else about the plot of the Buu arc, which stakes its whole plot on the idea that Goku is willing to fuse with Vegeta to fight Super Buu's various forms but not Kid Buu, this is purely an InformedAttribute. ²** In regards to the latter, the anime actually makes him ''look'' weaker with additional bits of {{Filler}}. These include Super Saiyan 2 Vegeta actually managing to [[CurbStompCushion land some good hits on Buu]] and make him angry with his [[MadeOfIron refusal to stay down]],[[note]]In the manga, Vegeta never managed anything and was crushed in seconds, with Buu laughing the whole time. The scenes where Vegeta shocks and angers Buu by continually getting up and interrupting his attempts to stop Goku are all purely anime, as is the scene where they get into a grapple and Vegeta isn't instantly overwhelmed.[[/note]] Super Saiyan 3 Goku putting him on the ropes before stamina drain starts to take effect,[[note]]In the manga they were nearly evenly matched in power, and stamina drain kicked in quickly enough that Buu never seemed to be in serious danger.[[/note]] and Mr. Buu putting up a much more effective fight, plus getting up after his first beating to fight him again.[[note]]Manga: Mr. Buu puts up a decent fight but is quickly overwhelmed, and is pretty much down for the count after the first beating.[[/note]] Paradoxically, all these scenes actually make Buu look more clever- in the manga he spends an extended period beating down Vegeta and Mr. Buu long after they're able to fight back ForTheEvulz while ignoring Goku's Spirit Bomb (directly leading to his downfall), while in the anime he's actually seriously trying to attack Goku and has genuine trouble putting down Vegeta and Mr. Buu.²*** Anime Kid Buu also meets his defeat because an already exhausted Mr. Buu was able to wrestle him to the ground and grapple with him for over half a minute before Kid Buu was finally able to force him off and blast him away. This prevented him from stopping Goku. In the manga, Kid Buu had effectively beaten Mr. Buu enough that the latter was unconscious for the rest of the fight, and simply remains ignorant of the Spirit Bomb until it's too late (he throws one token blast at Goku, who teleports out of the way and then chucks the Spirit Bomb).²* AdaptedOut: Doesn't appear at all in the ''Supersonic Warriors'' games, Super Buu taking his place in scenes where he appeared in canon.²* AlmightyIdiot: He can't even speak outside of laughs and grunts. However, he fights in such a [[ConfusionFu wild and unpredictable]] way and cares for nothing except killing that he is referred to as the most ''dangerous'' of all the Buu forms. Before he is killed, he destroys dozens of planets in minutes.²* AmbiguousInnocence: While not in action or deed (he is an EldritchAbomination that's destroyed worlds and slaughtered countless souls), this Buu can't be called malevolent or evil as that would imply he has the sapience, understanding, and moral agency to choose between "good" or "evil". [[NonMaliciousMonster Clearly he does not.]] While it may seem like Buu is MadeOfEvil and he is clearly enjoying beating people and blowing up planets, he isn't engaging in active villainy like Frieza or Cell. Kid Buu is basically just a kid who likes kicking down sand castles but doesn't even notice the tears of the other kids that made them. He's not cruel for cruelty's sake nor does he exhibit the desire do harm for his own benefit (which makes sense because he is TheNeedless). Hell, he's even able to push back against the [[MadeOfGood spirit bomb]] and even force it back towards a weakened Goku. Buu is pure at heart and while seems like a demon is more like an [[AboveGoodAndEvil amoral force of nature.]] [[PureIsNotGood Paradoxically however.....]]²* AxCrazy: Unlike all other ''Dragon Ball'' villains, he can't be reasoned with or bargained with; all he cares about is destruction. ²* BigBad: This incarnation of Buu takes the role in volume 42, with his reign lasting about half of that volume's pagespace. This makes him Buu's shortest-lived form, but he's still the final villain of the original manga and ''Z'' anime.²* TheBerserker: Kid Buu fights like a monstrous, wild, animal and has no formal training only pure strength and savagery. He spares no one in combat and has no friends or foes so he can attack and kill whoever he wants.²* BlackEyesOfCrazy: His true form has black sclera and red irises, and is a [[AxCrazy completely murderous monstrosity]].²* BloodKnight: Despite only caring about destroying everything in sight, he takes his time and enjoys the fight with Goku, Vegeta, and Fat Buu.²* BreatherBoss: An odd InUniverse example. After [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness doing everything in their power to immediately end Super Buu]] and ''avoid'' fighting him if at all possible, Goku and Vegeta become totally willing to screw around against Kid Buu and overall don't take him seriously. To be fair to them, he's a lot weaker than his previous incarnation, and while he ''did'' destroy the Earth this killed no one except four unconscious people still out cold from the struggle with Super Buu (the whole planet had already been depopulated by his previous two incarnations). That the heroes could've easily defeated him at any point using any one of a half dozen methods is [[LampshadeHanging repeatedly lampshaded]], and considered highly frustrating by [[OnlySaneMan the Old Kai]]. Thankfully for Buu, [[BloodKnight Goku and Vegeta]] are more concerned with [[HonorBeforeReason having fun fights and making moral points]] than anything else, so he lasts long enough to have a drawn out final battle.²** Vegeta ''crushes'' his Potara earring right before they fight Kid Buu. Kibito Kai is [[FlatWhat flabbergasted]]. Goku agrees with Vegeta and rejects Kibito Kai's extra pair of earrings, stating that unlike base Super Buu (who he had just been begging Vegeta to fuse with him against), it wouldn't be "fair" to fight Kid Buu with fusion, because "he ain't merged anymore either." Goku later notes that if they had used fusion, they could have destroyed Kid Buu with one small blast.²** Goku and Vegeta refuse to team up against him, even though had they done so they probably could have won just by having Vegeta completely wipe out Buu's pieces before they can regenerate (it was stated previously that even someone as weak as Piccolo could have done so) after one of the many times Goku [[GoodThingYouCanHeal blew him apart.]] Old Kai calls them idiots for this, but they don't care. They say, again, that it wouldn't be fair, and instead choose to ''play rock-paper-scissors'' to see which of them will fight him alone. Goku goes first and, despite getting the upper hand at points, lack the stamina to finish the job, so Buu always regenerates and eventually outlasts Goku's [=SS3=]. ²** After Goku fails and the dragon balls are gathered, he immediately suggests that they just bring Gohan to handle Buu. Vegeta rejects this, not because he doesn't think Gohan could do it, but because [[HonorBeforeReason he doesn't think that the Z-warriors should save the Earth again]], and thinks it would be better if Buu was defeated by the Earthlings' ''own'' energy. Hence, his Spirit Bomb plan. ²** After Mr. Buu gets expelled from Kid Buu's body and engages him, he shows himself to be decently close to Goku's strength and holds his own against Kid Buu for a while. Rather than having Kibito Kai restore their energy with his HealingHands (it was shown that Kibito alone could do so even to people dozens of times stronger than him) and ganging up on Kid Buu 3-1, which ''surely'' would have spelled victory given that Goku and Mr. Buu individually would have killed him at certain points [[GoodThingYouCanHeal if they were more thorough]] [[FromASingleCell in their follow-up attacks]], Goku and Vegeta just watch the fight.²** Similarly, despite suggesting it himself earlier against base Super Buu, Goku never tries to get Vegeta to do the FusionDance with him while Mr. Buu is engaging in a long extended fight with Kid Buu. Instead, he agrees with Vegeta's point about responsibility and sticks with the Spirit Bomb.²** In the end, Goku acknowledges Kid Buu as a WorthyOpponent and says it was really fun fighting him, even wishing for him to be reincarnated as a good guy. This is a far cry from the demeanors he held against Frieza, Cell, and Super Buu.²* ClippedWingAngel: Zigzagged. Kid Buu is not as powerful as Super Fusion Buu (the fusion of Gotenks, Piccolo, and Gohan). Although how much weaker he actually is happens to be a [[BrokenBase hot debate subject]]. However, he is still a legitimate threat, and is indeed described as being the most ''dangerous'' of the Buu forms. This is because, whilst his raw power has decreased, he's also ''absolutely insane'' and so neither holds back at all nor has any drives beyond simply annihilating everything in sight. Fat Buu is just a dangerously powerful and uneducated child, Super Buu is a hotblooded and arrogant warrior, but Kid Buu is a near-mindless engine of destruction.²* ConfusionFu: Kid Buu's primary "fighting style". He's completely unpredictable and uses his unique body to its fullest. This version of Buu is more like a wild beast than a trained fighter.²* ContrastingSequelAntagonist: To Garlic Jr. Garlic Jr. was a mortal who gained complete immortality - thereby outliving almost every non-celestial character - was a schemer with henchmen who wished to rule the world and got his just desserts. Kid Buu already had a degree of immortality (in the sense that he's millions of years old yet never ages) but reincarnates as a mortal, is no smarter than a wild animal, has no allies outside of Bibidi trying to control him, destroys worlds on a whim and was given a second chance. Garlic Jr. is a non-canon villain who appeared around the beginning of ''Z'', while Kid Buu is a canon villain who appears at the end.²* DarkestHour: After so many close calls, he does what no other villain was able to do, destroy the Earth. Along with its destruction, the Dragon Balls are destroyed and Gohan, Goten, Trunks, Piccolo, and Tien are also killed. Things were dark before, but this is the series low point.²* DirtyCoward: Similar to Piccolo Daimao, he tries to use an exhausted and immobilized Vegeta as a HumanShield to stop Goku from throwing the Spirit Bomb at him.²* TheDreaded: Far more than his other forms: Shin, was scared of the other forms for their power but knew they could be beaten with some effort and the right plan (and in fact was willing to actually fight Super Buu directly once he became Kibitoshin), but as soon as Buu ''started'' reverting to this form Kibitoshin fell to his knees in despair, as he knew he's just impossible to control or reason with.²* EarthShatteringKaboom: He blows up the Earth with an energy ball that can do it ten times over.²* EnfantTerrible: Well, he is ''billions of years old'', but in appearance and personality, he is a spoiled, sociopathic child.²* EstablishingCharacterMoment: Upon his rebirth, he tries to destroy the Earth with an energy blast. When Vegeta stops it, he responds by making a giant ball of energy that's strong enough to destroy the Earth ten times. When Goku begs him to stop, he laughs before dropping the energy ball.²* EvilCounterpart: His playful, ruthless nature parallels largely with Gotenks.²* FinalBoss: This form of Buu is the true final villain of ''Anime/DragonBallZ'', one of the most powerful villains ever and absolutely THE most dangerous.²* FlatCharacter: He has no personality or motivation, resembling a wild animal more than anything else. Note how his entry here is 1/2 the size of Fat Buu's and 1/3 the size of Super Buu's. It's implied that he's not even sapient.²* ForTheEvulz: The only real explanation for most, if not all of his actions. He is described as being "evil incarnate". Unlike Super Buu, who at least cared about a good fight, Kid Buu just wanted to destroy for the sake of destruction (his first act was to blow up Earth even after Vegeta challenged him to a fight).²* GenericDoomsdayVillain: He has no reason for blowing stuff up, he just does it and goes on to blow more stuff up. In this case Administrivia/TropesAreNotBad ''at all''; Fat Buu was ObliviouslyEvil, Super Buu had an ego a smart individual could play to. Kid Buu is completely unrestrained in his [[OmnicidalManiac omnicidal drives]], no bargaining or reasoning with him. It's not for nothing that everyone agrees this is what makes him the most dangerous, even if he lacks the raw power levels of his other forms.²* GracefulLoser: Well, as graceful as you can be when you're insane. Unlike every major villain since Vegeta, he didn't pitch a fit or RageQuit when he's faced with death. Instead, he had an expression of [[ThisIsGonnaSuck silent resignation]].²* TheHyena: The majority of Kid Buu's speech is composed of either maniacal laughter or insane screeches.²* InsaneEqualsViolent: The most unhinged incarnation of Majin Buu, and of all ''Dragon Ball'' villains for that matter. Therefore, he's also the most destructive.²%%* TheKillerBecomesTheKilled²* KillerRabbit: Unlike his other forms, this version of Buu looks like a little kid, hence his namesake. He is also by far the ''most'' dangerous form. Not only is he extremely powerful, but he doesn't have anything to restrain his power like the other Buu forms.²* KnightOfCerebus: Upon his rebirth, he destroys the Earth (killing what is left of the main cast outside of Goku, Vegeta, Dende, and Mr. Satan) while laughing and then in the anime went on to destroy at least five other planets in a span of a minute. Goku outright says that Buu will destroy the galaxy in less than an hour. To make things worse, he teleports into the Afterlife, ready to kill people who are already dead, effectively erasing them from existence. [[DarkestHour His very existence brought the Arc to its darkest point]]. ²* LackOfEmpathy: He seems not to care about anything other than having fun, by fighting powerful people, killing, and causing lots and lots of destruction.²* LaughablyEvil: His goofy, unpredictable nature occasionally crosses the line into hilarious.²* LaughingMad: Burst into randomly laughter during his fight with Goku.²* MakeMeWannaShout: Several times he displays the ability to scream so loudly that ''planets'' quake from the sound waves. He seems to do this... well, just because.²* MoodSwinger: Goes from kill-happy to enraged at a drop of a hat.²* NightmareFace: Several insane expressions and facial deformities that makes him are quite disturbing, along with Super Buu as well.²* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown: He has Vegeta severely beaten in his last fight. He does the same thing as he beats the crap out of Fat Buu. ²* NonIndicativeName: Chapter 49 of the ''Super'' manga reveals that [[spoiler:the Kid Buu that Goku fought had absorbed the Kaioshins' god power when Super Buu split into Good Buu and Kid Buu, thus making this Kid Buu stronger than the original.]] In other words, he's ''not'' "Pure" Buu, contrary to his official Japanese name. ²* NoNonsenseNemesis: Even more so than Super Buu. Kid Buu can't be reasoned with or bargained with. All he cares about is blowing stuff up. Goku and Vegeta have to lure him to the Supreme Kais' world to fight him because it's the ''only'' planet he can't one-shot.²* NotSoHarmlessVillain: When first introduced, both Goku and Vegita perceived him as a joke, literally laugh at him and mocking him for his size, [[TemptingFate each saying they could take him on.]] ''[[UnderestimatingBadassery They]]'' ''[[EarthShatteringKaboom couldn't]]''. They are a lot less prone to consider him easy challenge afterwards. [[ZigzaggedTrope However]], when given the chance to fuse with the Potara they choose HonorBeforeReason, ''and grow to regret it.'' By the end, when they ''do'' finally beat him, Vegeta even goes as far as to attempt to ShootTheDog out of genuine '''fear'''.²* OmnicidalManiac: Again, the purest example. Kid Buu is less a villain than he is a rampaging force of nature - even Bibidi, his "creator", could do little but point him at people and watch the carnage. [[note]]We later [[WordOfGod learned from the author]] that Bibidi never created Buu, he just summoned him and tried, and failed, to control him. Buu has existed since the universe itself was created and caused destruction wherever he went before going into long stages of hibernation.[[/note]]²* PintSizedPowerhouse: One of the strongest beings in the universe and he looks like a ten year old.²* PsychoForHire: When he bothered paying attention to Bibidi's orders.²* PureIsNotGood: It is implied that Kid Buu is pure of heart in the final moments of the battle as he managed to not only catch the Spirit Bomb (which almost vaporized him), but also ended up pushing it back at Goku while he was still weakened before ultimately having it be reflected right back to him, and then destroyed by it. Possibly overlapping with ChildrenAreInnocent since by all appearances, he doesn't seem to possess the full intelligence to actually understand what he's doing. He just loves the thrill of breaking things. In the original Japanese he is even called Pure Buu.²* RubberMan: Even more so than his previous forms. Using his amorphous nature is a big part of his ConfusionFu, stretching his punches, spreading out like a parachute to slow his momentum, and morphing to let attacks pass through him where possible rather than regenerating after taking the hit.²* {{Sadist}}: A sadistic OmnicidalManiac though not in the obvious way. His only purpose in life is to kill until there is nothing left and he enjoys the carnage and destruction. Interestingly, he doesn't seem to take much if any pleasure in the pain of others as he never really takes his time killing his enemies or watch their pain inactively. Even when he beats Vegeta mercilessly, he isn't enjoying the pain so much as the act of pummeling Vegeta repeatedly. This could be due to the fact that Kid Buu cannot understand or comprehend emotion and is incapable of deep thought.²* SmarterThanYouLook: When Goku hesitates to throw the Spirit Bomb at him, he looks at Vegeta, beaten to the point of immobility, then smiles as he puts two and two together and pins Vegeta to the ground as he attacks Goku.²* StoryBreakerPower: You thought Buu was broken before? Well he becomes ''worse'' after he learns the Supreme Kai's Instant Movement technique. He destroys a planet, regenerates, teleports to the next planet, and repeats several times, turning Buu into a galactic wrecking ball.²* SuddenlyVoiced: ²** The English dub, and some Latin American dubs as well, gave Kid Buu the ability to at least utter simple words, while in the manga and Japanese version Kid Buu can't speak at all. Following video games for the franchise rectified this to match the manga and rendered Kid Buu speechless.²** He does speak once in the original version when [=SS3=] Goku compliments his strength. His response? [[AxCrazy "Gonna kill you!"]]. This scene isn't in the manga though. ²* TeleportersAndTransporters: Thanks to copying Kibito Kai's teleportation technique.²* ThereCanBeOnlyOne: He recognizes Fat Buu as being the compassionate type. Kid Buu don't play like that. Heck, he outright says it in the English dub, wherein they added a few lines.²--> '''''Me''' Buu. '''NOT YOU.'''''²* ThereIsNoKillLikeOverkill: His very first act was to try to blow up the Earth. When Vegeta deflected the attack, he retaliated by making an energy ball so ridiculously overpowered that it would be impossible to stop; according to Goku, said energy ball was powerful enough to destroy the Earth ''ten times over''.²* ThisIsGonnaSuck: He has this reaction as Goku prepares to push the Spirit Bomb to kill him. This is noticeable since every villain in ''Z'' either {{Rage Quit}}s or screams in disbelief upon their defeat. ²* TheUnfettered: There is plenty of debate on Kid Buu on whether he is the most ''powerful'' incarnation, but everyone agrees that he is the most ''dangerous'' one. The other versions can be reasoned with to at least some extent; Kid Buu is virtually destruction incarnate. ²* UnskilledButStrong: PlayedWith. He is virtually a mindless machine of destruction, but he can sense energy and make the best use of his unusual body compared to all the other Buu forms (in fact, careful observations note that he has the fastest regeneration time out of all the Buu forms, being virtually instantaeous, probably because he is in his original form). At the same time, [[ConfusionFu his attacks are wild and unpredictable]], which actually makes him the most troublesome form of Buu to fight (especially since he's the most adapt at exploting his unique rubbery body.) There's also the matter that he still [[PowerCopying copies/recalls]] [[AwesomeByAnalysis the techniques he sees]] [[InstantExpert and can pull them off without a hitch]].²* UnstoppableRage: The other incarnations have this in one way or another, but Kid Buu is in this state the entire time.²* WorthyOpponent: Despite being a nearly mindless creature of pure destruction, it's easy to tell that he views Goku and Vegeta as this given that he searches for them across several planets and takes his time fighting them. In the end, Goku returns the sentiment.²* YouNoTakeCandle: The few times he speaks in the English dub, he speaks like this ("Me Buu! Kill you!")²[[/folder]]²²[[folder:Oob / Uub]]²!!'''Oob / Uub (ウーブ, ''Uubu'')'''²[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a3d704735a50e1b5adaec568074887d5.png]]²->'''Voiced by (Japanese):''' Megumi Urawa (Kid Uub), Atsushi Kisaichi (Adult Uub)²->'''Voiced by (English):''' Sean Michael Teague (Creator/FUNimation), Brendan Hunter and Scott Roberts (one episode) (Blue Water), Creator/JustinBriner ([[VideoGame/DragonballXenoverse2 Xenoverse 2]])²->'''Voiced by (Latin American):''' Uraz Huerta (Kid Uub), Creator/LuisDanielRamirez (Adult Uub in ''GT'' and Kid Uub in ''Kai: The Final Chapters'')²²A young boy from a poor village who competes in the 28th World Martial Arts Tournament in order to win the prize money to buy food for the starving villagers. There, he fights against Goku, who offers to train him; Uub has enormous potential since he is actually the human reincarnation of Majin Buu. He completes his training at the beginning of the anime-only series ''GT'', and returns to his village, but is called upon his duty to protect the Earth when he believes his mentor to have been killed in battle.²----²²* BewareTheNiceOnes: He's a really nice guy, but push his buttons hard enough and he gets very powerful. Goku took advantage of it to get him to fight better in ''Z''.²* TheCameo: Combined with a CallForward, but Uub is mentioned quite a few times in ''Dragon Ball Super'', but never directly appears. In chapter 31 of the manga, however, Goku actually sees him from atop Kami's lookout taking care of one of his brothers.²* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: Uub has no mention whatsoever in ''Videogame/DragonBallOnline''.²* DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu: While the fact that he is the reborn Kid Buu makes it kind of expected, since the last three episodes of ''Dragon Ball Z'' during which he debuted take place after the events of the ''[[Anime/DragonBallZBattleOfGods Battle of Gods]]'' and ''[[Anime/DragonBallZResurrectionF Resurrection 'F']]'' movies and the ''Super'' anime, Uub is the first human being to punch Goku after having become a ''PhysicalGod'' '''and''' achieved Ultra Instinct ''in the face''.²* {{Expy}}: One of Piccolo (Junior) and Nam. A reincarnation of a villain Goku defeated, he meets the latter in a World Tournament, and his introduction heralds a turning point/end of a series. He is also an Indian that needed the money for his village like Nam.²* GoodCounterpart: To Kid Buu, being his benevolent human reincarnation. When he fuses with Fat Buu to become Majuub, he is this to Super Buu. He's even officially called Super Uub in the Japanese dub.²* HalfHumanHybrid: PlayedWith. He is a pure blooded human, but he is also Kid Buu reincarnated. In ''GT'', he merges with Fat Buu making him a type of hybrid.²* HeelFaceTurn: He is the reincarnation of Kid Buu, an unrepentant psychopath who blew up planets ''for fun''. However, when Kid Buu gets reincarnated into Uub, he's much more benevolent. ²* HumanoidAbomination: While he's pure human, he's still the reincarnation of Majin Buu, and is leagues powerful enough to claim that.²* LastEpisodeNewCharacter: Much like Pan and Bulla, he is introduced during the last episodes of ''Z'', specifically the second to last episode. Averted in ''GT'', where the three of them appear more often (with Pan being a main character, even).²* MassiveNumberedSiblings: Downplayed; it's stated he's the first of five children.²* MasterApprenticeChain: He is Goku's third student. Since Goku had a ''lot'' of masters, he has several chains, one which includes ''Whis''.²** Mutaito > Master Roshi > Son Gohan, Sr > Son Goku > Uub²** Master Korin > Master Roshi > Son Goku > Uub²** Kami and King Kai > Son Goku > Uub²** Whis > Son Goku > Uub²* NiceGuy: Unlike the evil Majin Buu, Uub is introduced as a polite young man who shows respect to anyone he fights. Anyone who isn't evil anyway.²* OutOfFocus: Along with Pan, Uub has been pushed out of focus entirely since the franchise has had a revival in the late 2000s. It's justified in the case of the anime and manga though, since ''Battle of Gods'', ''Resurrection F'' and ''Dragon Ball Super'' all take place before Uub is born and/or when he's still barely a few years old. On the other hand, his lack of inclusion in things like Videogame/DragonballXenoverse is more baffling.²* PerformanceAnxiety: He gets nervous about fighting in front of a crowd.²* {{Reincarnation}}: Of Majin Buu, more specifically Kid Buu. Hence, the name "Uub".²* {{Revision}}: Chapter 43 of ''Dragon Ball Super'' establishes that Kid Buu inherited the god power of the Grand Supreme Kai, meaning that Uub is stronger than previously thought with godly potential in him. This doesn't contradict the original manga.²* SdrawkcabAlias: Uub is the reincarnation of Buu.²* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Uub/Ub/Ubb/Oob...²* TokenMinority: One of the few important dark-skinned characters in the series.²* UnskilledButStrong: His major issue was that he couldn't release his full strength, and even then, he hasn't got a handle on unique skills that required ki to use, like flight. Goku took it upon himself to help fix that. However, he ''is'' a quick learner - learning how to fight ''while having an intense fight with Goku''. As for the strong part, he's the reincarnation of Kid Buu (this is also where his quick learner trait comes from).²* WorldsStrongestMan: In the original ''Z'' series and ''GT'', he's by far the most powerful Earthling around. Of course, since he's the reincarnation of an immortal demon, it wouldn't be fair to compare him to Krillin or Tien. Chapter 46 establishes that he inherited the Grand Supreme Kai god power too.²!! Tropes exclusive to ''Anime/DragonBallGT'' incarnation:²[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/uub_by_anjoicaros_d5vkefh_1_7.png]]²[[caption-width-right:200:[[labelnote:Click here to see Majuub]] https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/super_uub_2.png[[/labelnote]]]] ²* AmbiguouslyBrown: After his fusion with Buu, the animators apparently can't decide if the boy is black, some other dark-skinned ethnicity, or mulatto.²* BadassBoast: See BatmanGambit below for the details, but as soon as he reforms [[ItMakesSenseInContext inside of Baby Vegeta's stomach]], he lets out one hell of a good one.²--> '''Uub:''' No one beats me with my ''own technique!''²* BatmanGambit: Pulled a beautiful one on Baby Vegeta. Originally it was believed that Baby had overpowered and reflected Uub's transformation beam back at him, transforming him into candy and eating him. Later it was learned that Uub had ''planned'' the move to attack him from the inside, where he was at his weakest.²* BigDamnHeroes: Despite his small role in ''GT'', Uub made himself the protagonist of at least FOUR BigDamnHero moments:²** Firstly, he saved Pan from a BrainwashedAndCrazy Gohan;²** Secondly, he saved Goku, Gohan, Goten, Trunks, and Pan from Baby in the culmination of his BatmanGambit (see above);²** Thirdly, he saved Gohan from General Rilldo (and destroyed the latter with [[OneHitKill a single blow]]);²** And finally, he prevents Goku from being impaled by a statue (courtesy of Syn Shenron)... by destroying the statue with a blast.²* DemotedToExtra: Surprisingly inconsequential in ''GT'', despite Goku's intention to [[PassingTheTorch have him take his place as Earth's guardian.]] ²* FusionDance: In ''GT'', he fuses with Fat Buu to become Majuub.²* PaperThinDisguise: His OneEpisodeWonder alter ego, Papayaman. This is the result of him having PerformanceAnxiety as shown in ''Z''.²* SplitPersonalityMerge: Sort of. He fuses with the Good Buu to become Uubuu ([[DubNameChange Majuub]]).²* ATasteOfTheirOwnMedicine: Baby is a PuppeteerParasite who invades other people's bodies, laying eggs inside them to keep control of them and attacking them from the inside. Majuub tries to transform him using Majin Buu's Chocolate Beam, but Baby sends it back at him and devours him afterwards. However, it later turns out that Majuub deliberately let himself be changed and swallowed so he could [[EatMe attack Baby from the inside, incapacitating him with pain during his fight with Goku]]; Majuub even tells Baby that he's doing what Baby himself does to everyone else.²-->'''Majuub''': Isn't that how ''you'' operate, Baby?! You lay your eggs in people and attack them from the inside!²* WalkingShirtlessScene: In the first episode of ''GT'', combined with ClothingDamage. After fusing with Buu, he wears a jacket that reveals his abs.²* TheWorfEffect: In ''Anime/DragonBallGT'', against Super 17 and Syn Shenron. He's the reincarnation of Kid Buu, who killed four of the highest gods in the universe, fused with Fat Buu, who made Vegeta kill himself for nothing, and yet he still gets stomped by both of them.²[[/folder]]²----
