An assassin of Guild Jack Raven sent to be Melida's personal tutor and possible killer. While he may seem like a friendly and polite person at first glance, this is nothing but a façade. He is actually a cold, no-nonsense professional who is always focused in his mission. In spite of that, his meeting with Melida awakens a better side of him even he didn't know existed.
----
* AdaptationalNiceGuy: In the light novel, he tends to be comically vengeful against anyone who crosses Melida, such as when he wanted to discipline Nerva with a wooden training sword and when he has Black Madia impersonate Othello before the latter returns to Elise's residence. In the anime, these scenes are cut out.
* AlwaysSaveTheGirl: Because Melida's plight resonates so well with his DarkAndTroubledPast, he decides to abandon his original mission to kill her and instead starts raising her to become the Mana user she wants to be. He acknowledges that other people want to kill her, but is determined to save her life no matter what.
* BecomingTheMask: Kufa is beginning to enjoy as his new career with Melida as the story progresses. He never thought that his disobedience would lead him to the life he once dreamed of having as a kid. He's slowly warming up to people.
* BrokenAce: He is a great fighter and just as great as a teacher, but he is also an assassin who never had a normal life. He is cold, cynical, and doesn't trust others much, but when Melida gets him to be honest about his feelings for a change, he admits he envies those who can enjoy normal things like going to school and making friends there.[[spoiler: When Melida discovered his dhamphir secret, he admitted that he was afraid of being rejected by her like those in his past and wanted to suppress her memories for his own selfishness.]]
* BigBrotherInstinct: [[spoiler: He is Rosetti's surrogate elder brother, adopted by the same man as her. He joined the assassin's guild as part of a deal to protect her and, when she briefly recovers her memory of their past together, he shouts for the arc villian to "get away from my little sister".]]
* BroodingBoyGentleGirl: The Brooding Boy to Melida's Gentle Girl. While he originally was planning to kill her, he surprises himself when he realizes he identifies with Melida's desire to be recognized, and has a change of heart. From this point onward the gentleness he shows towards her becomes genuine, even if he is otherwise still a cold assassin.
* ChickMagnet: Because of his good looks and polite (fake) personality, he quickly becomes very popular among the maids at Melida's mansion and the students at her school.
* ChildhoodFriends: [[spoiler:In the 5th volume of the novel, it was revealed that Kufa knew Rosetti during his time as an orphan when he was sent to the church after his mother died and buried next to it. They spent most of their time together as she addressed him as 'Big Brother' and he often called her by her nickname 'Rosie'. Due to the Lycanthrope attack on her hometown, Rosetti was gravely injured so Kufa bit her turning her into his familiar to save her life. It was also the moment he first met 'Father'. He sealed her memories with his anima so she could live as a normal human life. The reason he joined the guild was to monitor her secretly.]]
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Born in the Night World, he spent his childhood trying to survive with his mother in a dark place full of monsters. When they finally reached a safe place where humans could live, they faced great discrimination for supposedly being "dirtied" by the curse of the night. His mother eventually died and he was taken in by a dark guild who made him go through a hellish training to become an assassin.
* DarkIsNotEvil: He is an assassin with black hair, black coat, and is currently dedicating himself to saving the life of a young girl purely out of sympathy. Even before meeting Melida he was never really evil, assassination was just a job for him.
* {{Dhampyr}}: [[spoiler:His mother is a human and his father is a vampire, allowing him to enter a vampire SuperMode to break through human limits.]]
* TheDreaded: Many of the antagonists, such as William Gin and Black Madia, don't want to fight Kufa directly due to his skills as an assassin, so they usually try to attack Melida when the two are separated.
* TheDulcineaEffect: He disobeys orders and throws himself head first into a dangerous self-imposed mission that could get him killed, all for a girl he had just met. He even recognizes that he is letting his emotions guide him, but doesn't back down.
* ExperiencedProtagonist: A dark take. He's got plenty of battle experience because he has been trained since he was a child to be an assassin.
* GoodIsNotNice: Gaining a MoralityPet may have made him good, but it didn't make him nice, (though he has always been great at faking it). He is very harsh to Melida during training, initially refuses to get along with Rosetti and Elise because he sees them as threats to his plan to get Melida to be recognized, and he only goes easy on his enemies [[PragmaticVillainy if he has something to gain by letting them live]].
* GuileHero: His lying mouth is one of his greatest weapons. To ensure Melida's survival, he has to lie to his former superiors, to his allies, and even to Melida herself. His self-imposed mission is all about trickery.
* HealingFactor: [[spoiler:Being half-vampire, he can regenerate lost limbs with ease.]]
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: ''Invoked'' by way of [[spoiler: training Melida to kill lycantropes despite being one himself. Several characters warn him that doing so will inevitably lead to him dying at her hands. He is, in fact, hoping this will happen because A.) it will mean that she SurpassedTheTeacher and B.) he will inevitably lose himself to his vampire side, so his days are already numbered.]]
* HotTeacher: Melida's handsome personal tutor quickly calls the attention of [[OneGenderSchool the entire student body]].
* HunterOfHisOwnKind: [[spoiler:Kufa shows no trouble killing in Lycanthrope despite being part one himself.]]
* InLoveWithTheMark: He betrays his mission after Melida impresses him with her sheer determination and uses a SuperSerum to awaken her mana artificially. He gradually develops increasingly inappropriate feelings given his real job, knowing all the while that if Melida's family or his guild ever find out what he did, [[ContractOnTheHitman they will almost certainly kill him with her]].
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Towards Melida and Rosetti. He's strict on Melida and fights dirty during their training, but only because he wants her to improve and survive despite her low stats. He acts cold towards Rosetti at first, [[spoiler:but he turns out to be looking out for her because he brought her back as a potentially unstable vampire and actually thinks of her as a little sister]].
* LadyAndKnight: As a ruthless professional assassin, he is Melida's Black Knight. He will do whatever is necessary to make sure his Bright Lady survives and develops into a battle maiden worthy of being called a "sword of hope for the people" as she dreams of becoming. This involves lying to everyone, putting her through harsh training, and neutralizing threats to her.
* LightningBruiser: His class is Samurai. Normally this would make him a FragileSpeedster, but he ends up in this trope instead thanks to his battle experience and [[spoiler:and the HealingFactor he gets from his {{Dhampyr}} nature. So he has the speed of the Samurai class plus the insane strength and durability of the vampires.]]
* MeaningfulName: [[spoiler:Kufa Vampir is [[{{Dhampyr}} the child of a human and a vampire]].]]
* MissingMom: His mother died when he was young. While she was already very weak when she arrived in Flandore after a life surviving in the dark world, what sealed her fate was the discrimination she suffered from the people there, who believed she had been "cursed" by the night.
* ObliviousToLove: Doesn't notice Melida's PrecociousCrush on him, in spite of how unsubtle she is about it. Mostly justified because he used to see social interaction as a mere tool to be used in missions, and bonding with other people for real is a new experience for him. Plus, she is too young for him to see her in a romantic light. [[spoiler: But that changes later as he begins to see her differently as they spend more time together through out the story. Kufa soon discovers that he had fallen for her.]]
* TheOneGuy: The only guy living in Melida's mansion, as all the servants working there are women. He also becomes this when he goes to St. Frideswide alongside Melida, since [[OneGenderSchool the student body and staff are made entirely of women]] and the only other private tutor with permission to enter (Rosetti) is also a girl.
* OnlyFriend: Kufa expresses this with [[spoiler: Serge Shicksal. Despite their clashing personalities and the Duke's hidden agendas, Kufa couldn't bring himself to hating him. After winning against Serge in the final showdown in LN vol.9, he was hesitant in killing him as Melida stopped him by stating that he's the only true friend he has. When Salacha brought her brother after cutting his arm before the other dukes, Kufa was relief to see him alive.]]
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: While the main cast isn't aware of it, Kufa Vampir is a fake name he adopted for his mission. His real name is unknown.
* PetTheDog: In the anime, he comes across a stray cat with a wounded leg on his way to Melida's mansion. He heals the wound for no reason other than he could. Also counts as {{Foreshadowing}} for him ultimately deciding to spare Melida.
* PragmaticVillainy: He isn't a villain, but he is a ruthless assassin. The only reason why he isn't piling up corpses anymore is because protecting Melida is a mission that won't be easily achieved just by killing people. Case in point, [[spoiler:he refuses to kill Gin and instead tells him to go back to his client and report that he found traces of Paladin Mana within Melida. If he killed an assassin sent after Melida another would come later, while having Gin deliver a fake report lessens the chances of it happening again.]]
* RefugeInAudacity: [[spoiler:He's a {{Dhampyr}} who takes the family name of Vampir, knowing that if anyone figures out he's really a vampire, he'd be exterminated by the ruling powers.]]
* SternTeacher: Because Melida must make everyone believe she is a Paladin to survive, he refuses to go easy on her training even for a moment. While he can be kind and encouraging to Melida in their free time, GoodIsNotNice is in full effect when it's time for a lesson. Indeed, Melida later says in her match with Nerva that his training is much scarier than anything Nerva herself could do.
* StockLightNovelHero: Zigzagged with Kufa. In terms of appearance and role in the plot, he seems to be the definition of this trope: he has the short dark hair with soft facial features that one would expect of a Japanese media protagonist (even though the series doesn't even take place on real-life Earth), wears dark clothing, is much stronger than most of the cast from the start, and is surrounded by pretty girls who like him and fight together with him. When you see his personality and backstory however, they don't resemble this trope at all: far from being a normal person dragged into a fantastic world, he has been raised to be an assassin since he was a child. Being so overpowered doesn't come just from an innate power, but also from having far more experience in battle than a person his age should have. He may look like an AllLovingHero at first glance, but that's just a façade he puts on for the sake of his mission, in reality he is cold and calculating. And while he does comes to genuinely care about one girl, his core personality remains the same and he only looks more heroic than he actually is [[PragmaticVillainy due to pragmatism]].
* SupportingProtagonist: He may be the character whose point-of-view the audience follows, but the story is all about Melida. His change of heart and decision to protect her is what starts the plot for real. Most of the tension comes from the risk of her getting killed if Kufa fails to hide their secret. And the second most important plotline is Melida's journey to prove herself.
* TrainingFromHell: He wants Melida to quickly master her newfound Mana and learn to be more of a CombatPragmatist, and achieves this by putting her through exhausting sparring matches where he fights dirty.
* {{Turncoat}}: [[spoiler:Kufa was ordered to carry out Elise's assassination in vol.10 of the novel to prove his loyalty to his guild. His boss finds out what he did to save her and Melida, he gave him a final chance but Kufa refused and announced he will live his own life as 'Kufa Vampir'. They fought each other with Kufa came out as the victor and spared his boss' life. However, his 'Father' declares on open season on him claiming that him and the rest of the guild will hunt Kufa and his friends till the end.]]
* YourDaysAreNumbered: [[spoiler:Mad Gold gave a warning to Kufa that his vampire instincts slowly taking over his will and he will force to destroy everything he cherished. Kufa took his warning by heart after the climax of the 1st act knowing that day will come and hoped Melida will kill him when the time arrived. In the 12th LN, Kufa was at the disavantage fighting against a full fledge vampire, Theodore. He had no choice but to drink his human blood to unleashed his beast. Theodore gave him the same warning that using his vampire form repeatly will cost him his human half and he'll becoming a pure breed vampire that destroy everything he holds dearly.]]

[[folder:Melida Angel]]
!!Melida Angel
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/TomoriKusunoki (Japanese), Creator/BrittneyKarbowski (English)

[[quoteright:220:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/melida_angel_anime_7.png]]

The daughter of the duke of the Angel family. Having been born without any talent for Mana in spite of being part of one of the three great duke families, she is believed to be the result of an affair her late mother had, and her life is at risk because of that. Unaware of the danger, she tries her best to prove herself in spite of being mocked and bullied by her peers.
----
* ACupAngst: She had hoped to develop bigger breasts as she matured, but to her disappointment, they remain small. It is made all the more painful by the fact that Kufa once touched them without even noticing during one of her medical examinations.
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: Because of her lack of talent for Mana, she's highly ostracized by the nobility, including her own father. That doesn't stop her, however, as she's determined to prove herself to be useful despite her lack of Mana. This changes after Kufa implants Mana into her however.
* AffectionateNickname: Elise calls her Lida. Mule and Salacha occasionally calls her by her nickname as the dukes' daughters become close friends.
* BadassAdorable: A cute, easily impressionable young girl currently training to become an elite knight.
* BeatThemAtTheirOwnGame: As a Gladiator, Nerva's specialty is close combat. However, Melida manages to overwhelm her with a frontal assault thanks to having a better control of her Mana, as Kufa taught her much more advanced techniques than the academy would to first-years.
* BroodingBoyGentleGirl: She doesn't even notice thanks to his NiceGuy act, but she ends up becoming someone who brings out the best out of Kufa. Her sincere desire to grow into someone strong and admired by everyone inspires him into abandoning his mission to kill her, probably the first decision he made based on the kindness of his heart since he was adopted by Guild Jack Raven.
* TheChosenOne:[[spoiler: In the 1st act, Melida's growth becomes a threat not only to the Lycanthrope's plans, but also to the new King of Flandor. She was mentioned in the old prophecy books as part of the revolution against the King's rule. Those who believed in them started to address her as the 'child of the prophecy']]
%%* ClingyJealousGirl:
* CombatPragmatist: Kufa taught her to fight dirty to win and to use tactics such as throwing dirt in the opponent's eyes.
* DamselOutOfDistress: [[spoiler:When she and Elise are kidnapped by Gin and about to be forced to go through a surgery to change her class, she escapes and fights back against the Lycanthropes on her own. When Gin catches up to them, he concludes the girls are far too dangerous to be left alive and decides to kill them and make an excuse to his client later, but is stopped by the timely arrival of Kufa and Rosetti.]]
* {{Determinator}}: No matter how much she is mocked, humiliated, told to give up, she just keeps trying and trying without asking for help. There is so much determination inside her even an assassin comes to admire it, which is why he changes his mission from "killing her" to "protecting her".
* EmbarrassingNickname: At the start of the story, everyone calls her the "Talentless Girl" (translated as "Incompetent Talented Girl" in the anime because she obtained "beautiful form" in combat but has no natural capacity to use mana, both in the opening credits and the subtitles) due to not having mana despite presumably inheriting blood from a ducal house.
* FMinusMinus: Kufa didn't know a grade of "G" even existed before he saw Melida's report card.
* FragileSpeedster: Since she got her Mana from Kufa, she is in the Samurai class like him. Said class has high agility and stealth, but low defense. However, Kufa taught her Chaos Cadena to compensate for this disadvantage, allowing Melida to defend from strong attacks by concentrating Mana in a single spot. It's a double-edged sword however, as it leaves the rest of the body with little Mana and thus even more fragile.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: She is the sweetest girl one could imagine, and is as golden-haired blonde as one could get.
* HardWorkHardlyWorks: Zigzagged. On one hand, she would never have awakened Mana without Kufa's help, and thus would be doomed to be a powerless girl forever no matter how hard she trained. On the other hand, training so hard since long before she met Kufa is the reason she became such a skilled fighter immediately after awakening her Mana, so her hard work didn't amount to nothing.
* HighHopesZeroTalent: Born in one of the most important families in Flandore, she aims to join the elite unit Crest Legion, like every other Paladin from the Angel family. However, she has no talent to use Mana whatsoever, let alone become a member of the elite. This changes after Kufa implants some of his Mana on her.
* LadyAndKnight: As the daughter of the duke of the Angel family, she is a Bright Lady because of how kind she is and her desire to become the "sword of hope for the people". Kufa is her Black Knight, a cold and pragmatic individual who will do whatever is necessary to ensure her survival and train her into a battle maiden worthy of her family name.
* TheLeader: Melida demonstrates her capability as the leader in tight situations. When Black Madia sneaked in to her group then attacked her and Elise, Melida formed a plan to trick the assassin into destroying the gate keepers so that Kufa and Rosetti could go in the Lunar selection. [[spoiler: Melida shows her capability as a leader thanks to Kufa secret brutal training in one of his hideouts in the 7th novel. During her rematch with William with the other heiresses, she divides a plan with them and they collaborate according to plan. When that fails, she's the only one left standing against him and manages to counter all his attacks in their one-on-one match and wins. Kufa follows her lead during their run when the light cavaliers attacking the villagers for her whereabouts and defended them.]]
* MamasBabyPapasMaybe: There were enough witnesses that everyone is fairly confident Melida wasn't SwitchedAtBirth, but they are far less confident that she is Duke Felgus's daughter since most people believe a MuggleBornOfMages to be impossible for a ducal house. It is widely agreed that it is far more likely that her wealthy but commoner mother had an affair with another commoner. Since Melida's mother, Melinoa, passed away some time ago, she is no longer available for anyone to ask, leaving Melida's family stuck investigating all of Melnoa's male friends and deciding whether or not to give up and [[OffingTheOffspring kill Melida]].
** [[spoiler:When it is publicly revealed she inherited Samurai abilities, her father states the Angel linage had a distinguished individual of the same class. Combined with the knowledge that Melida possesses Mana as potent as others in the family, he stops doubting his wife's infidelity and that Melida is his child. Though he remains unaware that Kufa could be the origin of her powers, its possible he was just a catalyst after all.]]
* MissingMom: Her mother died five years before the start of the series.
* MoralityPet: Before meeting her, Kufa was a ruthless assassin who killed whoever he was asked to kill with no remorse. After meeting her, he became a teacher willing to move Heaven and Earth for the one girl he cares about.
* MuggleBornOfMages: If Melida isn't an illegitimate child, then she is this, having failed to have inherited her father's ability to use mana, let alone his Paladin class.
* NiceGirl: It's surprising how kind and cheerful she manages to be in spite of how everyone treats her. Even when given the power to shut the mouths of all those who mocked her, she doesn't use it for revenge or anything of the sort. She is satisfied with changing their opinions and befriending them.
* NobleFugitive: [[spoiler:In the 2nd act, Guild Jack Raven makes up its mind to dispose of her and her allies. With the help of the former head mistress and classmates who already made arrangements, they are sent to their sister academy as students. Later on, she, Kufa and the rest of the Dukes' daughters had to escape from Flandor to avoid the Cavalier Regiment guild who are sent out to hunt them down.]]
* ParentalNeglect: Her father has distanced himself from her as much as possible, due to the possibility of her not being his real daughter. When she achieves her first victory as a Mana user, all her father has to say is to not be satisfied with such a small achievement. And Kufa thought this was an ''improvement'' in their relationship, because Felgus acknowledged his daughter existed and had achieved something. [[spoiler: He admitted that it was hard for him to be close to her because he still misses his loving wife, Melonia, and was afraid to love her child who may or may not be his. But it somewhat averted as Fergus was secretly watching over Melida.]]
* PrecociousCrush: She is just thirteen years old, and she fell for Kufa right after meeting him. She considers him to be a fairytale prince that came to save her, not knowing his true intentions when he arrived at her home. Luckily, she is not blinded by this as she wants to know him better. [[spoiler: Especially in the 5th volume of the novel where she is confronted with his hidden past and his dhampyr identity. But despite of that, she accepted him even comparing his vampire looks to a white snow prince.]]
* RedIsHeroic: She's one of the main heroes and her regular uniforms (including her jacket and shoes) are colored red.
* RoyalBlood: She is presumed to have inherited the blood of the Angel ducal house, one of the three royal families of Flandor. However, her failure to inherit their RoyaltySuperpower, the Paladin class, has put this in question. [[spoiler: There are signs indicate that she is indeed of the Royal Bloodline. The ancestor and former duchess of the La More who is a clairvoyant senses she indeed carried the noble bloodline but it's tainted with the vampire presence due to Kufa mana transfer. In the 7th novel, Melida secretly overheard the story William, who was in disguised, was telling to Shenfa when she was hiding out from her pursuers. She learned that there are other noble children in her situation hidden in Flandor. But, during her one-on-one rematch with William when he attacked her and the other students, William spat out that she is not like him or the other 'children'. In the latest story in the 2nd act, Melida was targeted by the vampire, Theodore, during her mission in the night world. According to him, the vampire king somehow knew her and wanted her dead for unknown reasons.]]
* SecretKeeper:[[spoiler: Melida learned Kufa's secret in LN volume 5. Instead of rejecting him like those in his past, she embraces him telling him she'll always be by his side even if the world is against him. She was the first person to accept him and the only one who he confided his secret outside his guild. She also knows Rosetti's past with Kufa and her identity as his vampire kin. She promised him not to tell her about them.]]
* SentIntoHiding: After a man with sinister intentions shows up claiming to be Melida's real father, her presumed father, Duke Felgus, decides to make her stop attending the academy and bring her back to the mansion, hoping everyone will forget about her and stop using her to undermine him. But Kufa manages to refuse that suggestion by explaining her progress.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: Aside from her age, Melida looks pretty much identical to her mother. This doesn't really help with the rumors of her being a HeroicBastard, as descendants of the Angel family are supposed to be guaranteed to inherit silver hair along with Knight class mana.
* TeacherStudentRomance: She falls hard for Kufa shortly after meeting him, because his decision to become her teacher single-handedly turned her life around and made her dream possible.
* TookALevelInBadass: Kufa implanting his Mana in her kickstarts the plot. Thanks to his guidance and her own hard work, she goes from hopelessly useless to BadassAdorable in record time.
* WeakButSkilled: Before awakening her mana, Kufa notes that Melida has good technique. This helps compensate for her initial inexperience and lack of sheer power when using her mana.
* WellDoneSonGuy: Her mother died young, and her father coldly disregards her due to her lack of mana. She desperately wishes to win back his approval, but he has made it clear that it will not be easy and has been [[ParentalNeglect ignoring her as much as possible]].

Melida's cousin and the daughter of a branch family. Unlike Melida, she has long awakened her Mana and achieved the Paladin class. She is also the youngest person to join the Crest Legion. Because she obtained everything Melida wanted, the relationship between the two has become strained.
----
* AdaptationalWimp: In the anime she's a lot weaker and clings to Melida more often, whereas in the novels she supports her as an equal and comes through for her on several occasions. A good example would be the battle against Black Madia who easily considers her the more dangerous of the two.
* AffectionateNickname: She is called Ellie by Melida.
* BadassAdorable: For the same reasons as Melida, with the added bonus of having the SuperpowerfulGenetics she lacks.
* ClingyJealousGirl: A platonic example. While she's grateful to Kufa for helping Melida, she's not too happy that Kufa is monopolizing Melida's attention.
* CripplingOverspecialization: Her skill with the blade surpasses Melida. Able to easily keep up and even overpower her with it. However without her sword, she is completely helpless. Melida defeats her by forcing her into hand to hand combat where her cousin easily beats her senseless with her bare hands until she gives up.
* HumbleHero: She does not want the limelight, or at least to be above Melida. She prefers to have Melida take the stage while she remains "the little sister" and lives in Melida's shadow, or at worst, has Melida's light reflect off her. Othello's schemes trying to forcer her to usurp Melida's role as the family heir make her very, very uncomfortable.
* LonelyAtTheTop: Everyone knows she is above her peers both in terms of lineage and combat abilities. While she is admired for it, she is also isolated because nobody thinks they can get closer to the super-elite girl. Not helping matter is her head maid telling her that she must distance herself from the other girls to show them that she is a superior person.
* MasterOfAll: The Paladin class is considered to be the perfect all-rounder class. Not only are all their stats great, they can even support teammates with their unique skill Blessing, that grants everyone on the team the passive skill of recovering health and Mana.
* NobleFugitive: [[spoiler: In the 2nd act, Elise became the next target of assassination by the Jack Guild. Kufa revealed to both Angels that there's been a call out on their deaths and formulates a plan to go into hiding. With the help of the former head mistress and classmates who already made arrangements, they are sent to their sister academy as students.]]
* ReiAyanamiExpy: She has blue hair and doesn't emote much. She is expected to perform the same role as the main character, but at the start of the series she is seemingly better and has the respect the protagonist wants. She is actually hiding strong emotions and insecurities behind her stoic behavior. Doesn't that sound just like Rei Ayanami?
* RoyalBlood: As a member of the Angel ducal house, she belongs to one of the three royal families of Flandor.
* ShrinkingViolet: She may look like an aloof girl at first, but the truth is that she is timid and has trouble expressing herself, which has contributed to her LonelyAtTheTop situation as no one except Melida knows what she is thinking.

Elise's personal tutor. A prodigy who rose from the commoner class and was granted the title of noble entirely with her own effort, she is a famous celebrity in Flandore.
----
* DanceBattler: She is part of the Dancer class, a class well known for adding a flourish to the battlefield with movements as graceful as they are deadly.
* DemotedToExtra: It is clearly becoming this case [[spoiler: in the 2nd act as her role becomes less active in this act since she is now working with Duke Fergus in his project to make more manmade mana in LN 11.]]
* {{Dhampyr}}: [[spoiler: She is Kufa's vampire Kin, able to enter a similar supermode as him, because he bit her to save her life when she was injured as a child.]]
* FatherIWantToMarryMyBrother: [[spoiler: She grew up with Kufa as siblings, both of them orphaned and adopted by the same man, and she called him "big brother". Because she doesn't remember this, due to Kufa's memory seal, all she feels is a great nameless fondness for him.]]
* GenkiGirl: She has more energy than the thirteen years old kids. However, it's implied that like with Kufa's NiceGuy persona, this is partially an act, [[ThePollyanna an attempt to always be positive]]. Her hyperactivity distracts her and her pupil from their personal issues and insecurities.
* HumbleHero:
** In spite of the several-meters-long list of [[SelfMadeWoman impressive achievements under her name]], she gets embarrassed when people recognize her as "that" Rosetti, as if she wasn't every bit the celebrity people think she is.
** When she loses to Black Madeira, she admits that she still has a long way to go and asks Kufa to train with her.
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: [[spoiler: Kufa erased all memory of their childhood together to mitigate the effect of her transformation into a half-vampire.]]
* MentorArchetype: She is Elise's personal tutor, and the girl needs someone to help her develop in more ways than just paladin-related.
* ThePollyanna: She is always trying to share her energy with those around her, and frequently tries to alleviate the mood around her by smiling a lot and offering words of encouragement.
* RingsOfDeath: Wields chakram as her primary weapons because she is a Dancer.
* SelfMadeWoman: Awakened Mana at an unusually early age, but couldn't go to a school to learn how to use it because she was a commoner. She still managed to become a master in her class through self-study alone and just kept accumulating achievements until she was given the title of First Generation Marquess, granting her entire family the status of nobility. However, she admits to Kufa that her self-reliance has cost her some social skills, and that she needs to learn proper teamwork.
* WomanChild: Kufa accuses her of being one because of her GenkiGirl act and more importantly, because she thought he was some kind of "Dream Prince" when she first met him.

The leader of a group of bullies at the academy, who constantly mock Melida over her lack of Mana.
----
* AlphaBitch: She is the one who insults Melida first and makes everyone else laugh at her.
* BreakTheHaughty: [[spoiler:During the quarter-end tournament, the so-called Talentless Girl controls their battle from the start, which is a severe blow to her ego. Being defeated by the girl she had been relentlessly bullying, in a public match no less, humbled her down.]]
* BullyTurnedBuddy: At first, she taunts Melida about her lack of Mana, but [[spoiler:after her defeat in the quarter-end tournament, she becomes a more friendlier person]].
* DefeatMeansFriendship: [[spoiler: Immediately after her match with Melida, she returns the book she took and apologizes. She is more friendly after this.]]
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler: After her defeat, she becomes a genuine friend to Melida and assists her in the Luna Lumiere Selection. She plays this once more in the 8th novel, when Melida helped free her from mind control. They worked together with Kufa and the duchess, Almedia La More, to reclaim their academy from the female mad arachnid Lycanthrope who took over it.]]
* ItsAllAboutMe: She does consider Melida to be her friend, but in her mind, being her friend meant that Melida would always remain a helpless girl who does whatever she wants and has to rely on her. She is downright ''offended'' that Melida dared to change.
* JerkassRealization: After her defeat at Merida's hands in the quarter-end tournament, Nerva realizes how harsh she was towards Merida and becomes a friendlier person after that.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Even though she insults Melida's lack of Mana, Nerva is a good person and is not afraid to admit she was wrong.
* MightyGlacier: She is part of the Gladiator class, a class that has great attack and defense stats, but mediocre speed.
* OjouRinglets: She has the hairstyle expected from a prideful noble.
* PetTheDog: [[spoiler: A flashback shows that she was the first person to offer to be Melida's friend at school.]]
* StarterVillain: The first obstacle Melida has to face.
* {{Tsundere}}: Following her HeelFaceTurn, she becomes a platonic one of these. [[spoiler: She is a staunch friend of Melida but doesn't want to admit to it at first. Such as during the Luna Lumiere Selection, when the other girls were shunning her, she sat next to Melida and said the seat was open, when so were many others that were not right next to her.]]

!!Father
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/ToshiyukiMorikawa (Japanese), John Gremillion (English)

A senior member of Guild Jack Raven, he is the one who raised Kufa into the assassin he is today.
----
* EvilMentor: While he doesn't seem to have been a particularly abusive or manipulative father figure, it doesn't change the fact that he raised kids with nowhere else to go to become ruthless assassins.
* GoodSmokingEvilSmoking: He is seen smoking in most of his appearance, and he is an assassin who lives and works in the darkest areas of society.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: He is only referred to as father, as he raised the assassins of his guild like his children. [[spoiler: He later goes by Professor Augustine Bones as his pseudo name in public as the 2nd act begins.]]

[[folder:William Gin]]
!!William Gin
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/TatsuhisaSuzuki (Japanese), Michael Wronski (English)

An artificial Lycanthrope working for the criminal guild Grimhuis.
----
* BandageMummy: Justified. Ghouls can manipulate bandages and infuse them with the power to seal Mana, so he is effectively covered in weapons.
* BlueBlood: It was shown early in the manga that William Gin was the heir of the William aristocrat household but due to his lack of mana, his parents [[IHaveNoSon forsook him]] and [[OffingTheOffspring left him for dead]] in a remote area. [[spoiler:His past and family are delved into in the 7th novel. His real name was Jean William but was given to his newborn brother who had the mana gene after his family discarded him. The siblings were unexpectedly reunited after Gin saved him from the burning hall. He considered killing him to get back at his family but let it go as he didn't want to prove that he was weak after the trap he lead to destroy the Dawn trope. After showing Jean where to take shelter, he asked him to pass the message to their parents that the 'shameful son' will return. Jean recognized his older brother's voice showing that he still remembers him.]]
* CardCarryingVillain: He tells Melida that it's okay for her to think of him and his friends as "the bad guys". [[spoiler: He later plays that card once more in his rematch with her and the other Duke's heirs. He was betting his life in effort to draw out the enemies troupes and to prove his loyalty to the White cavalier guild]]
* CombatPragmatist: He knows he can't beat Kufa in a direct fight, so he brings in a powerful chimera lycanthrope to gain an advantage. [[spoiler:He didn't predict that the latter has a vampire form that outclasses the chimera.]]
* DidntSeeThatComing: There was no way he could predict that [[spoiler:Kufa was half-vampire.]]
* ItsPersonal: Because Kufa killed his companions and forced him to run away when they met in the prologue of the series, he gets much more excited fighting him than when he was trying to capture Melida and Elise.
* MirrorCharacter: Of Kufa. Both were taken by an underworld guild and had to learn to be cold-blooded killers because they had nowhere else to go. Also, [[spoiler:they are both half Lycanthrope, although Gin is an artificially made one while Kufa is a naturally born one.]] Even his attitude regarding Melida's possible murder is the same as Kufa before his change of heart: Neither of them was doing it because they liked it, but they had to obey their orders. [[spoiler: Later in the novel, he also shared some similarities with Melida as he originated from the prestige family of the William household, but like her, he never had his mana awakened. According to him, there are other children from the aristocrat families like them out there.]]
* MuggleBornOfMages: [[spoiler:He failed to inherit mana from his parents, leading them to get rid of him.]]
* LadyAndKnight: He gained this trope after saving Kufa and the Friedwide students from the ambush the Dawn trope had set up. The students were wary of him due to him being a Lycanthrope but only Shenfa approached him without fear thanking him for saving them and called him the 'Bandage Knight'. [[spoiler: They crossed path once more in the 7th novel when he was sneaking into the expo. William told her a tragic story about a noble boy he knew who is William himself who was abandoned by his family. Shenfa has already developed feelings for him giving him her support. Before he left, he whispered his plans to her]]
* StarterVillain: He is the main physical threat the main characters face in Volume 1.
* TheyCallMeMisterTibbs: He can get murderous angry if you don't address him by his full name. [[spoiler:Considering he is a former noble, it may be sign that he is unable to let go of his previous life.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Black Madia]]
-> '''Voiced by:''' Creator/SoraTokui (Japanese), Creator/ShelleyCaleneBlack (English)
One of Kufa's colleagues in Guild Jack Raven.
----
* AdaptationalWimp: In the light novel and manga, she defeats several students before finally being defeated by Rosetti. In the anime, she isn't shown defeating those students and is instead defeated offscreen by Kufa despite sustaining almost no fatigue.
* BloodKnight: When Kufa's loyalties first come under suspicion, she becomes very eager about the chance to kill him. However, during one failed attempt to touch Melida, she realizes she wouldn't be able to beat him, so she gives up fighting him and instead tries to get Melida's blood when the two are separated during the final trial.
* EveryoneHasStandards: Played for laughs. Kufa orders her to disguise herself as Mrs. Othello, order Elise's maid to dress as a catgirl, and renovate Othello's room with a girly pink theme, all to get back at her for sabotaging the Luna Lumiere competition. Madia calls Kufa nasty for coming up with this vengeful prank then calls him a brutal teacher after throwing her into the crowed of her admirer students after her introduction as the new instructor of the academy.
* FatalFlaw: She has an incredible amount of pride in her abilities combined with a bad habit of underestimating her foes. So much so she can't help but obsessed over defeating them with their own abilities to prove her superiority. This ends up biting her hard in her rematch against Rosetti who was able to take advantage of her bad habit to defeat her.
* HoistByTheirOwnPetard: After managing to corner the Angel sisters, she was very close to victory. However she ended sabotaging herself when she destroys the Valkyrie Guardians whose function was to keep anyone from coming or leaving in a fit of rage allowing outsiders to intervene.
* LogicalWeakness: Her class allows her to use the abilities of other classes, but not to the same extend as the original which is why she has to mix things up when fighting them. It also requires her to have their weapons. If the weapons are stolen or destroyed, she can't use them. This was how Rosetti defeated her in their rematch.
* MasterOfAll: Her class can imitate the abilities of other classes at the price of being harder to train in, which would normally leave her a MasterOfNone. But due to spending an absurd amount of time training, she has mastered the combined abilities of every class below knight.
* MasterOfDisguise: Part of her skill-set, and used to infiltrate Melida's school.
* NotMeThisTime: She isn't responsible for all the sabotage at the Luna Lumiere, despite Kufa's suspicions. Othello was the one who changed the names of the stained glass, and did so with Mule's help. Elise's swimsuit was tampered with, but that was actually her own doing in order to lose to Melida in one of the contests. In the end, the only thing Madia does is [[spoiler:knock out Nerva, assume her identity, and attack Melida]].
* PowerCopying: Her mana class, Clown allows her to copy the abilities of any of the other classes.
* ReassignedToAntarctica: Black Madia gets sent to St. Friedeswiede as a teacher to spy on Melida and Kufa as punishment for revealing her face in public.
* SecretIdentity: Black Madia was sent to the academy as the new instructor, Laqua Madia. [[spoiler: exposed when the Angel heiresses won the fight against her during their escape in the 2nd act. Both were shocked to learn that Madia was the assassin who attacked them in the Lunar selection]]
* SilentAntagonist: Starts as this, only communicating in memos, until she finally starts talking.
* UndyingLoyalty: Unlike Kufa, Black Madia is fiercely loyal to their "father" calling 'Daddy" and will do anything he orders her.

[[folder:Mule la More]]
-> '''Voiced by:''' Creator/MaayaUchida (Japanese)
Mules is the mysterious student from the sister academy. She was discovered to be the heiress of the La More duke hold which is a family of Scholar. Her class is Diabolos which specialized in magic attacks and absorbing the opponent's mana.
----
* FemmeFatale: Mule doesn't hesitate to use her looks and body to get what she wants.
* FireForgedFriends: Mule and Salacha joined Melida and Elise in the Vibria Goat exam in their 1st collaboration as the daughters of the Duke Knight household. She's proven to be the brain among them [[spoiler: They teamed once more with Melida being the leader during her rematch with William Gin. She's the only one who can damage him due to her magic class. After they won the battle, the crowed audience cheered their victory as the Duke Knights as the four walked off the stage supporting each other.]]
* TheGadfly: Mule tends to bring trouble to the group with her mischievous antics particularly to Salacha and later on, Melida.
* NobleFugitive: [[spoiler: Mule and Salacha joined the Angels and Kufa in their getaway at the end of LN 11.]]
* RedHerring: Kufa initially suspects her to be Black Madia in disguise, but drops his suspicion when she turns out to be a Diablos, a class that Madia can't copy. However, Mule is still involved in a conspiracy against Melida [[spoiler: in effort to gain trust from Serge who is suspecting of betraying the Flandor system]].
* RoyalBlood: As a member of the La More ducal house, she belongs to one of the three royal families of Flandor. However, her ancestor, who is a clairvoyant, hints that [[spoiler:despite having the same RoyaltySuperpower, she might ''not'' actually be a member of the La More family. Mule seems to be aware of that fact. It finally revealed in the 11th novel that her mother actually adopted her after discovering her sleeping in a capsule then went through the same mana procedure as Melida to gain her Diabolos class.]]
* TokenEvilTeammate: "Evil" is a big stretch but so far in all her appearances, she seems to be the most morally ambiguous.
* UnderestimatingBadassery: Mule is shown to underestimate Melida during her duel with Salacha in the Vibrant Goat exam. She was confident that she would lose due to the difference of their classes as Melida has a lowly Samurai class and Salacha has a high ranking Dragoon Class. Her assumptions were shattered the moment Melida won the match.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Salacha Schicksal]]
-> '''Voiced by:''' Creator/AzumiWaki (Japanese)
Salacha is a 1st year student of the sister academy. She revealed to be the heiress of the Shicksal duke household. Like the rest of her family, her mana class is Dragoon.
----
* FireForgedFriends: Mule and Salacha joined Melida and Elise in the Vibria Goat exam in their 1st collaboration as the daughters of the Duke Knight household. Salacha is shown to be a frontal attacker due to her dragoon class.
* HiddenBuxom: Salacha reveals that she has a decent-sized bust underneath her attire much to her friends' [[ACupAngst jealousy]].
* NiceGirl: Unlike Mule, Salacha is polite and kind.
* NobleFugitive: [[spoiler: Mule and Salacha joined the Angels and Kufa in their getaway at the end of LN 11.]]
* RoyalBlood: As a member of the Shicksal ducal house, she belongs to one of the three royal families of Flandor. [[spoiler:She became the new duchess of her family after she won the duel against her brother.]]
* ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight: Salacha refuses to comply with her brother's orders that will hurt Melida and tries to save her. Unfortunately, Mule got in the way. [[spoiler: She confronted her brother once again showing her disappointment over his actions. She forced him onto a duel for the head of the family knowing he's exhausted from his fight with Kufa and won by cutting his left arm.]]
* WingedHumanoid: Salacha's dragoon class allows her to create wings on her ankles that enable her to fly.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Serge Shicksal]]
Serge is the Duke and leader of the Shicksal clan. He was later crowned as the King of Flandor. He's rumored to plot something to disrupt the Flandor system as he's the leader of the innovative group who seeks to restore the purity of the aristocrats family.
----
* BitchInSheepsClothing: Serge is quite a cheerful young man and often annoys Kufa, but beneath his personality lies a cruel manipulator who would do anything for his unknown plans. He is rumored to try disrupting Flandor's system.
* HereditaryCurse: [[spoiler:Three years before the plot, there was a war with the Immortal Pirate Lycanthropes who were making havoc in Flandor. The Shicksals took the lead of the battle and defeated them. However, all of them were cursed to become Lou Garou aside from Salacha, who was too young to participate at that time.]]
* KissingCousins: He is engaged to Kushana who is his cousin from the branch family. The Shicksal family is known to marry each other so the next heir could inherit their dragoon abilities.
* ManipulativeBastard: Serge secretly orchestrated the events that occurred in the 1st act. After the failed coup against Melida, he used the magic pen he gave to Salacha to dispose the innovative group and killed Bijou to cover his actions. [[spoiler: He discovered Marquis Blossom Pricket's experiments beforehand in the LN but allowed him to continue them for his own purposes. Mules figures out that the prophesies were made up by Serge during the climax of the 1st act. Serge confesses to Kufa that he did it to strengthen Melida for the unforeseeable dangers Flandor will face.]]
* OnlyFriend: [[spoiler:To Kufa. Despite the Duchess' order, he was hesitated in carrying it out after their final showdown. Melida stopped him by pointing out that he's his only friend and let Serge escape.]]
* RoyalBlood: As a member of the Shicksal ducal house, he belongs to one of the three royal families of Flandor. He was crowned as the King by novel vol.4, [[spoiler:but is dethroned later by his sister in their match and was sent to exile to the Night world.]]
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: He does this to the innovative group and Bijou to cover his actions. [[spoiler: He does this once again to the leader of the Mad Wolf Lycanthropes, Mad Gold, by stabbing him with the poisonous knife with Kushana as his co-conspirator the wedding ceremony.]]
* YourDaysAreNumbered: [[spoiler:Due to the curse bestowed on the Shicksal family, Serge and Kushana live in borrowed time before they'll be turned into mindless Lou Garous like his parents. Leaving Salacha as the only remaining Dragoon in the world.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Othello]]
Elise Angel's top maid.
----
* EvilOldFolks: Her wrinkles have wrinkles, her hair has started to turn grey, and there's no act of villainy she'd overlook to bury Melida, figuratively or literally, and put Elise forward as the "worthy heir" of the Angel house.
* {{Hypocrite}}: In episode 8, she cries out "yes, it is our duty to expose and purge the Angel house of its sins and crimes!" When she's the one who rigged the Luna Exam, forced herself into the dorm by hook and crook, and is in a meeting plotting the downfall of the Angel house while wearing a domino mask...
* {{Meido}}: She's Elise's top maid.
* SlobsVsSnobs: Clearly in the snob category as she's always looking down her nose at everybody, even Elise, since she believes Elise mingling with "that rabble" is somehow insulting to the Angel family name.
* SmallNameBigEgo: Even if she is Elise's top maid, she is a maid, and Elise is from a sub-branch of the Angel house. Yet, she acts like she's the top authority where the Angel house is concerned. If Elise was just a little bit less of a ShrinkingViolet, this entitled maid would have been thrown out on her ear long, long ago.
* VicariouslyAmbitious: She can't wield a sword and has no capacity for mana, so she pushes and pushes for Elise to be the "proper heir" so she can be the power behind the throne in running the Angel house.
