!Main Characters

[[folder:Channing Farrow]]
[[quoteright:131:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vlcsnap_2018_01_12_22h10m04s397.png]]

The main protagonist. A brash and snarky man who's never at a loss for words, but who also possesses a strong sense of justice and ultimately wants to make the world a better place. At the beginning of the game, he's working for Bahrmuel's guild, accomplishing tasks in exchange of money. However, his life will take a unexpected turn when he escorts a diplomatic party supposed to negociate a peace treaty between the Lunarosse Empire and the Demi-Human Faction, and he will be involved in a ploy that will decide the fate of the world of Lunarosse itself.
----
* AFriendInNeed: He will always stick up for Noel after the reveal that [[spoiler:Gerard is Noel's split personality]], arguing that Noel is a good man and can't be blamed and considered a monster, as he [[spoiler:isn't able to control Gerard's actions]]. He also does it with all his friends in general and [[spoiler:with Corlia in the GoldenEnding]].
* AntiHero: He's cocky, brash, sometimes overconfident, and he's never at a loss for words. However, on the other hand, he also has a strong sense of justice, wants to do the right thing and he is disgusted by racism and dishonesty.
* ArrangedMarriage: He is in one with Gloria. They both don't like it. [[spoiler:{{Subverted}} in the sense that this situation and these sentiments were created by Corlia's dream. In the real world, they love each other. The player can rekindle their relationship once Channing gets his memories back, even though it has shades of SlapSlapKiss.]]
* BrutalHonesty: Never tries to sugarcoat things when he talks. This can sometimes backfire, like when he bluntly tells [[spoiler:Corlia]] that things change and she has to accept it (and grow up).
* CallingTheOldManOut: He gives a very satisfying TheReasonYouSuckSpeech to his father, telling him how he feels about him cheating on his wife.
* DeadpanSnarker: Occasionally delivers some well-aimed snark.
--> '''Channing:''' ''(about [[GenkiGirl Carmen]])'' "Even when she's quiet she's loud."
* GoodMorningCrono: His first scene. It gets a CallBack later when [[spoiler:he's trapped by Corlia in a dream where he always repeats the day this scene took place]].
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He can be rude or sarcastic at times, but he still means well.
* HeroicComedicSociopath: [[ItMakesAsMuchSenseInContext He bashes dancing monkeys to death with a cane in Isabelle's dream]] (luckily for us, it happens off screen). According to the witness, it's horrifying to watch.
* MagneticHero: Since he's the main character in a game that takes inspiration from the [[Videogame/{{Suikoden}} Suikoden]] franchise, this was a given.
* RedOniBlueOni: He's the hot-blooded Red to Noel's calm Blue. Especially pronounced during the first chapters of the game.
* RookieRedRanger: He is thrown into this position of the expedition party after he's conscripted into LaResistance, due to his having the most experience thus far. He's not crazy about it, but it helps his growth into TheHero as he becomes capable of making the hard decisions needed.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: One of his specialities. Combining it with BrutalHonesty. Two highlights: he gives brief but nasty ones to Zevahn in the House of Cards and to his father in Vaarn's fortress. He does it again with [[spoiler:Naamari]] when he learns [[DisappointedByTheMotive how lame his motive is]].
* WouldntHitAGirl: The only reason he doesn't punch Isabelle after she forced him to do [[BigLippedAlligatorMoment her confusing sidequest]]. [[GameplayAndStorySegregation Doesn't show the same reserves with the female enemies of the game though]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Noel Warhol]]
[[quoteright:154:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vlcsnap_2018_01_12_22h10m15s825.png]]

Channing's best friend. More level-headed than him, Noel is always there to be the voice of reason when his friend gets carried away.
----
* AllLoveIsUnrequited: He's in love with [[spoiler:Channing]], but the latter [[spoiler:is straight]].
* AnguishedDeclarationOfLove: To [[spoiler:Channing]]. It doesn't work.
* BackFromTheDead: [[spoiler:He dies in the Dreadnought Tower to save Channing and Gloria from Gerard, but can be revived with Eris' help on the path to the best ending.]]
* ChildhoodFriends: With Apollo.
* FightingFromTheInside: Once [[spoiler:Gerard finally manages to take full control]], he tries to stop him from the inside.
* HealerSignsOnEarly: He comes equipped with a Water Glyph.
* HeroicSacrifice:
** After Vaarn's Fortress collapsed, [[spoiler:he and Gloria nearly fall and Channing has to hold them to prevent them from falling into a pit. He will let go of Channing's hand if the latter refuses to let him fall in order to save him and Gloria]]. {{Subverted}} however, [[spoiler:as he survives the fall]].
** [[spoiler:He does it again in the Dreadnought Tower, stabbing himself to prevent Gerard from killing Channing and Gloria. This time, he really dies. However, Channing manages to bring him back to life in the GoldenPath.]]
* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: The reason why he doesn't try to come between [[spoiler:Channing, whom he loves, and Gloria]].
* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler:He sacrifices himself to save Channing and Gloria from Gerard in the Dreadnought Tower and stays dead in the two normal endings. In the GoldenPath, however, this is subverted, as Channing finds a way to bring him back to life.]]
* TheLancer: For Channing.
* MoralityChain: His influence is litterally the only thing [[spoiler:preventing Gerard from killing Channing and Gloria]].
* RegretfulTraitor: [[spoiler:Because of [[SuperPoweredEvilSide Gerard]]'s influence, he's the one who foils the peace treaty with Yliandra. Of course, he deeply regrets this.]]
* StraightGay: To the point that the reveal of his sexuality can be considred a WhamLine in-universe and out.
* SuperPoweredEvilSide: [[spoiler:Gerard is his.]]
* RedOniBlueOni: He has this dynamic with both Channing and [[spoiler:Gerard]]. Each time, he's the Blue one.
* WalkingSpoiler: A lot of the tropes discussed about him spoil several twists of the game.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Gloria Harper]]
[[quoteright:135:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vlcsnap_2018_01_12_22h10m27s881.png]]

Channing's fiancée. Gloria is a fierce and independant woman, as well as an accomplished fighter.
----
* ActionGirl: She's a fighter.
* ArrangedMarriage: She is in one with Channing. They both don't like it. [[spoiler:{{Subverted}} in the sense that this situation and these sentiments were created by Corlia's dream. In the real world, they love each other. The player can rekindle their relationship once Channing gets his memories back, even though it has shades of SlapSlapKiss.]]
* BigDamnKiss: With [[spoiler:Channing]] during their optional scene in the Hot Springs.
* FieryRedhead: She's fierce and feisty, and even comes equipped with a Fire Glyph. In a more serious note, she was so angry at [[spoiler:Noel]] after the reveal that [[spoiler:Gerard is his split personality]] that she would have killed him in order to avenge Rain and Rani.
* GreenEyedMonster: It's implied that part of the animosity she feels towards [[spoiler:Noel]] exists because the latter has a crush on [[spoiler:Channing]].
* ItsPersonal: She hates Gerard because he killed her two friends [[MauveShirt Rain and Rani]] in the Prologue, even though they weren't a threat for the Empress. To have her revenge, she was even ready to kill [[spoiler:Noel]], after TheReveal that [[spoiler:Gerard is his LiteralSplitPersonality. It takes her a long time to forgive him]].
* SugarAndIcePersonality: Although she rarely shows the "Sugar" part, except to [[spoiler:Channing]], like in their optional scene in the Hot Springs.
* {{Tsundere}}: Towards [[spoiler:Channing]], combining SlapSlapKiss and ViolentlyProtectiveGirlfriend.
* ViolentlyProtectiveGirlfriend: Towards [[spoiler:Channing]], after [[spoiler:he gets his memories restored]]. She's especially quick to threaten [[spoiler:Noel]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Garrett Davis]]
[[quoteright:120:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vlcsnap_2018_01_12_22h10m35s236_copie.png]]

The Prince of the Lunarosse Empire and brother of Empress Corlia. While he may appear as a mere figurehead to the people, Garrett is involved behind the scenes in the ploys that decide Lunarosse's fate.
----
* CainAndAbel: {{Subverted}}. He wants to help his sister, even if it means betraying her and [[spoiler:ending the dream world she created]]. PlayedStraight if you [[spoiler:decide to side with Yliandra during the final battle]].
* ChildhoodFriend: To Phillip.
* NoodleIncident: Apparently, he almost married a male-to-female transsexual when his sister tried to marry him so he could fund his own kingdom.
* ProperlyParanoid[=/=]RightForTheWrongReasons: Soon after Channing and his team join the Mnemosyne Company, he notices that one of the medals was thrown into the see and concludes that a mole must have infiltrated the Company and is trying to help the Lunarosse Empire find their hideout. It turns out that [[spoiler:the thrown medal was a RedHerring, since it was Ashley's, who panicked when she met her sister Marina and threw it into the see in order to not be unmasked]]. However, this reveal only comes after the discovery that [[spoiler:there really ''was'' a traitor: Noel, when controlled by his SuperPoweredEvilSide]], making his paranoia more justified. (Although Zevahn disagrees with the last part.)
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: He's a good leader. Even when he's confronted with TheReveal of [[spoiler:Gerard's identity as Noel's SuperPoweredEvilSide]], he keeps his self-control and doesn't try to kill him on sight.
* TheStrategist: Channing may be the hero, but it's still this guy (with Joyce) who comes up with the plans.
* StarCrossedLover: He loves Ashley, but they can't be together.
* SupportingLeader: Played with. He's the true leader of the Mnemosyne Company and the one who gives Channing his missions. However, even though he can be selected as a party member, it's still Channing that makes the plot move forward.

From his part, Esau is always supportive of her and even promises to her mother that he will protect her. [[spoiler:And then there’s her distress when Esau [[TakingTheBullet took the bullet]] for her.]] They also spend the party of the Winter Solstice together. In Phillip's opinion, she is past the "Tease" part.
* SinisterScythe: Her weapon, though [[TheDitz there is nothing sinister about her]].

No one has ever seen the Tierkreis' true face, since he keeps it hidden behind a golden mask. Only his white hair is visible. He claims to be the true defender of the Churchill Region, using the power of the stars to his advantage.
----
* AffectionateParody: Of sentai superheroes, complete with InTheNameOfTheMoon speeches and CallingYourAttacks.

* BigDamnHeroes: He comes to Channing's help during the optional fight against [[spoiler:Maganda]].
* HeroAntagonist: He starts off as an antagonist, but only because Vaarn convinced him that Channing and his friends were dangerous criminals.

----
* BigBadEnsemble: She's the leader of the Lunarosse Empire, one of the two antagonistic factions of the game. If Channing sides with Yliandra during the final battle, she's the FinalBoss. [[spoiler:She is not, however, the true BigBad of the game.]]
* BigGood: How she's seen by her subjects. The truth is more complicated.

[[spoiler:Secretly, it's because she's terrified of being forced out of her HappyPlace.]]
* BrattyHalfPint[=/=]PsychopathicWomanchild: At heart, Corlia remains a child who refuses to accept the fact that things change and that she has to grow up, move on with her life and accept the fact that the friends she had [[spoiler:back at the summer camp]] have their own lives as well and [[spoiler:can't play her game forever]]. 467* TheManInFrontOfTheMan: He’s [[ObviouslyEvil rather obviously]] pulling the strings of Empress Corlia and dragging her further and further into insanity.
* ManipulativeBastard: He uses Corlia and the empire for his amusement. His confrontation with the heroes in his House of Cards is basically Zevahn trying to psychologically torture Garret by showing he's not a good leader because of his paranoia, then [[spoiler:Noel]] with illusions of Garrett and Channing saying he's a freak for [[PoliticallyIncorrectVillain loving another man]].
* TheMole: For Naamari. He's actually one of his [[LiteralSplitPersonality vessels]] and spies and manipulates the Empire to serve Naamari's goals.

A greedy and cunning bounty huntress working for Bahrmuel's Guild, her unscrupulous methods quickly put her at odds with Channing, and she will become a recurring foe of his brigade.
----
* BecomingTheMask: [[spoiler:Her "tough girl" persona was originally an act she created after Abel left her. Over time, she let it affect her personality.]]
* BountyHunter: Although she's a member of Bahrmuel's Guild, she's a lot closer to this trope.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: When possessed by Esonusashi.
* CunningLikeAFox: A recurring theme with her, with her red hear and her smarts. She is intelligent, greedy, and deceptive, putting on an act of kindness to rookies or other unsuspecting rangers of her own guild, before stealing their missions from them.
* FantasticRacism: Not to the extent of Abel, but she is prejudiced towards demi-humans, especially the [[CatFolk Cheshires]].
* FieryRedhead: When she's around [[spoiler:Abel]], she reveals her {{Tsundere}} and ViolentlyProtectiveGirlfriend side.
* FreudianExcuse: She became embittered and cynical after [[spoiler:Abel, with whom she was in a relationship that could have gotten the two married, left her to become Noita's apprentice, furious as to why he left without so much as an explanation. The Wiki notes that she developed her sinister persona afterwards]].
* TheGunslinger: The only gun-user shown in the game.
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler:After Channing saves Himiko and then the death of Noita and Abel going crazy and injuring himself until he's left in a comatose state, she drops the bounty on Channing's head]]. However, it will take a few more sidequests for her to become [[spoiler:a permanent member of the company]].
* HiddenDepths: It turns out that she didn't oppose Channing ''only'' for the money. She also genuinely believed that he was a traitor to the Empress. [[spoiler:And it's only the start. Then, the truth of her relationship with Abel is revealed, along with the fact that she used to be a petty delinquent who stopped to be a criminal after working in Izumo's shrine until Himiko was an adult]]. Thanks to Phillip, we ultimately learn that [[spoiler:Corlia based her bad personality on the one she had when she was a child. In the real world, she eventually grew out of it. Meaning that part of her negative traits were due to Corlia's influence.]]
* HoistByHerOwnPetard: During their second quest for the guild, when she tries ''again'' to steal their mission by stealing the cargo they're transporting, the heroes manage to use the letter she forged to accuse the Cheshires of the theft to denounce her.
* HumiliationConga: A very satisfying one, after being HoistByHerOwnPetard. She loses her perfect mission-winning streak, Bahrmuel forces her to be stuck with the most tedious and/or boring works, and Channing can even rub her failure in her face.
* OnlyInItForTheMoney: She squanders most of the reward money of her missions for herself rather than on her guild. Later in the game, she works against the heroes because of the bounty on their heads. [[spoiler:{{Subverted}} when her HiddenDepths are revealed.]]
* PetTheDog: She shows great concern towards [[MoralityPet Himiko]] when the latter goes into a near-erupting volcano to try to appease the spirits threatening Izumo, which is the first clue that she's not as bad as she appears.
* StarterVillain: Before the actual plot gets rolling, she serves as the antagonist of the first few chapters, constantly getting in the way of the party’s missions for the guild.
* SugarAndIcePersonality: Even more than Gloria. While she mostly shows the "Ice" part, [[spoiler:the "Sugar" part becomes apparent in the last chapters of the game, when she's worried for Himiko and Abel]]. Ultimately, [[spoiler:she reveals that her "mean tough girl" persona was an act she started to use after Abel left her]], even though, given how she acted in the beginning, BecomingTheMask was at least partially involved in the mix.
* SummonMagic: She's mentally strong enough to use Zevahn's Cardian monsters.
* {{Tsundere}}: Towards [[spoiler:Abel]].
* ViolentlyProtectiveGirlfriend: Implied with [[spoiler:Abel]], given how she reacted when the latter confronted Bahrmuel.

!Yliandra Faction
One of the two factions whose conflict is the driving force behind the game.

[[folder:Shamaness Yliandra]]

The leader of the Demi-Human Faction. Yliandra rules the White Sands, an eastern land independant from the Lunarosse Empire, and fights for the rights of all non-humans across the world. When the situation between the Faction and the Empire escalates into open war after the failure of the peace conference, Yliandra will show herself to be ready to do anything in order to defend her people.
----
* AlasPoorVillain: If Channing sides with Corlia during the final battle, she will die lamenting that she failed her people after being defeated. Channing will even wonder if they did the right thing. [[spoiler:Then Gerard comes by and gives her the power to fight again for the FinalBoss battle...]]
* BigBadEnsemble: She's the leader of the demi-human Faction, one of the two antagonistic factions of the game. If Channing sides with Corlia during the final battle, she's the FinalBoss. [[spoiler:She is not, however, the true BigBad of the game.]]
* EnemyMine: She forms an alliance with the Mnemosyne Company after [[spoiler:Zevahn's attack on their base]] against Corlia, but both sides know that they will probably betray each other at some point and act accordingly.
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler:In the GoldenPath, Channing learns that she is in reality [[LiteralSplitPersonality a part of the "real" Corlia's personality]] and uses this knowledge to convince her to stop fighting to try to end the war peacefully with Corlia.]]
* {{Hypocrite}}: The great shamaness, who presents herself as the good leader fighting against the Empress' oppression and as the defender of the demi-humans, is perfectly okay with the idea of letting [[spoiler:Escobar]] attack other demi-humans (the merpeople) in order to harvest their tears, which form magical pearls that can be used as ammunition for her cannons. Surprisingly, nobody (not even Channing) ever uses it as an argument against her.
* LiteralSplitPersonality: The GoldenPath reveals that she's actually [[spoiler:one half of the "real" Corlia Davis. She's her split personality, born from her repressed anger towards those she believes treated her unjustly, and brought to life when Lunarosse was created]].
* OnlySaneMan: Especially compared to [[BloodKnight Lujayn]], she's reasonable when it comes to deal with humans.
* PetTheDog:
** When she arrives in the Dreadnought Tower and discovers that [[spoiler:Noel has been killed]], she seems sincere when she offers her condolences to [[spoiler:Channing]]. She even let pass his first insult (not the second one, though).
** She refuses to take vengeance on the human race as a whole for all the wrongs some humans did to her Faction.
* PragmaticVillainy: She tries to avoid unnecessary casualties among Corlia's human subjects when she conquers a region of the Empire, but it's more to avoid too much resistance and be able to raise taxes and recruit soldiers than out of the goodness of her heart.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Zigzagged. At first, she agrees with Corlia's peace offer. She drops the "Reasonable" part when she decides to continue the war after the failure of the peace treaty. Although she regains some of it during the last stage of the war, when she agrees to [[spoiler:let the Mnemosyne Company capture Corlia and to spare her as long as Garrett prevents her from continuing the war because she wants the bloodshed to end]]. Later [[spoiler:{{averted}} again though, when she gets the keys of the Dreadnought and decides to use it to destroy Corlia.]] ''Later'' again played straight when it's revealed that she doesn't intend to enact revenge on the human race after her victory. In the GoldenPath, [[spoiler:after it's revealed that she's Corlia's LiteralSplitPersonality, she agrees to talk to her other side to try to end the whole conflict peacefully.]]
* SnakePeople: She's a Lamia.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: Her hypocrisy towards the whole letting-[[spoiler:Escobar]]-attack-merpeople-to-get-her-more-weapons aside, she's still trying to fight for the demi-humans' rights, as it has been shown that at least part of Corlia's empire is prejudiced towards them.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Bellahan (spoilers)]]

The tactician of Yliandra's army. He never shows his face, nor does he reveal what he is. Bellahan is more calm than the other servants of Yliandra. Unlike Lujayn and Rasul, he's a powerful magic-user.
----
* AmbiguouslyHuman: He looks like a human, but serves Yliandra's non-human faction. (And it's stated that the civilians of its town would lynch humans on sight.) It's never explicitly stated if he's the TokenHuman of the Faction or a human-looking non-human. It's eventually revealed that he's the LiteralSplitPersonality of Dario Naumov, a human, so he's probably a human.
* BigBad: He is one of Dario Naumov’s vessels/personalities, and manipulates Yliandra and the Faction for his own ends.
* TheCorrupter: To Yliandra, encouraging her to wage war against the empire.
* {{Hypocrite}}: See Yliandra's entry, although he's perhaps even worse, as he is the one who created the Ponaredek, the creature who can survive only by '''eating merpeople'''. However, to be fair to him, the last part is implied to be an unwanted side-effect. And he is PlayingBothSides, so likely a StrawHypocrite.
* LiteralSplitPersonality[=/=]TwoAliasesOneCharacter: He, Naamari and Zevahn are actually the three vessels of the same person, Dr. Dario Naumov. They do have distinct personalities though.
* TheManInFrontOfTheMan: He goads Yliandra into fighting the war as part of his own plan.
* TheMole: For Naamari. He's actually one of his [[LiteralSplitPersonality vessels]] and spies and manipulates the Faction to serve Naamari's goals.
* TheStrategist: He's Yliandra's tactician.
* SummonMagic: One of his powers. He summons a monster to fight Channing's team in the cave under Naamari's cabin, and he's the one who created the Ponaredek.
* TokenHuman: [[AmbiguouslyHuman Potentially.]] He's the only human-looking member of the Faction.
* WalkingSpoiler: His true identity as a vessel for [[BigBad the Illusion Master/Dario]] is a major reveal.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Lujayn]]

Yliandra's second-in-command. Lujayn is a manticore, and appears as a griffin-like creature in silver armor. Her blade has taken many lives, making her a feared opponent on the battlefield.
----
* BetterToDieThanBeKilled: If Channing sides with Corlia during the final battle, [[spoiler:she will kill herself after being defeated by jumping into the Dreadnought's core to power it up]].
* BloodKnight: Never misses an opportunity to fight or train with a new sparring partner.
* HeelFaceTurn: In the GoldenPath, Channing spares her after they defeat her and they manage to convince her to help Yliandra talk to Corlia to end the war.
* {{Hypocrite}}: See Yliandra's entry, as she doesn't seem to be disturbed by her way of getting weapons.
* ProudWarriorRaceGirl: She has shades of this. She *is* a BloodKnight who values strength above all.
* TheUnfettered: She's so strong that the only fight the heroes can win against her is the last one. In every other confrontation, she will end up the victor (sometimes thanks to CutscenePowerToTheMax though).
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Rasul]]

The bodyguard of Yliandra. While Lujayn may be the second-in-command, he's always by his ruler's side. Rasul takes the form of a shadow wolf with a venomous bite. He never leaves his mistress' side.
----
* AntiVillain: He's never antagonistic towards the Mnemosyne Company and, should Channing choose to side with Corlia during the final battle, will lament that he didn't want to fight him and wish that they could have become friends.
* BetterToDieThanBeKilled: If Channing sides with Corlia during the final battle, [[spoiler:he will kill himself after being defeated by jumping into the Dreadnought's core to power it up]].
* HeelFaceTurn: In the GoldenPath, Channing spares him after they defeat him and they manage to convince him to help Yliandra talk to Corlia to end the war.
* {{Hypocrite}}: See Yliandra's entry, as he doesn't seem to be disturbed by her way of getting weapons.
* OnlySaneMan: Even more than Yliandra. And with her, the only one who's polite with their human companions.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Ajagara]]

A [[spoiler:dragon]] mascarading as a beautiful blond woman. Ajagara claims to be one of Lujayn's best fighters, but she overestimates greatly both her strength and her importance.
----
* BerserkButton: Calling her "ugly".
* BrainlessBeauty: She's not very smart.
* ForTheEvulz: Since no explanation is given to why she raised the storm that [[spoiler:killed Bruce's family]], we can only assume this is her reason.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: She doesn't get much respect among the Faction, if Lujayn's words are any indication.
* OneWingedAngel: Her real form is [[spoiler:a dragon]].
* SmallNameBigEgo: She fancies herself as one of Yliandra's elite warriors and most important fighters. Channing quickly understands that she's making that up.
* SmugSnake: Far too overconfident for her actual strength. Especially jarring if you do the second (optional) battle against her. Even though you already defeated her once, she's still gloating that she will destroy Channing and his team. The following boss fight, [[VillainForgotToLevelGrind where she forgot to level grind]], confirms that she's far less strong than she thinks she is.
* VillainForgotToLevelGrind: During the optional sidequest to recruit Bruce, she's fought a second time, but has the same [=HP=] than during her first battle.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Placido Escobar (spoilers)]]

A wealthy businessman in the Sabatini Region. Escobar makes his living selling and trading pearls to the other regions. It was said his wife was killed in a shipwreck and he was one of the only survivors.
----
* AlasPoorVillain: Surprisingly, given his actions, he evokes some sympathy during his death. The fact that he's ultimately revealed to be a somewhat tragic figure, he dies after agreeing to surrender and to face punishment, and that his last action is to say farewell to his wife probably help.
* BadBoss: Not to the extent of Bahrmuel, but it can be a pain to work for him.
* CorruptCorporateExecutive: He's implied to have ties with the slave market. Later in the game, it's revealed that he's actually behind the attacks of the Ponaredek against the merpeople, who kidnaps mermaids and mermen so he can harvest their tears, which transform into pearls. And he feeds those who refuse to obey to the Ponaredek.
* EvilAllAlong: He's the one responsible for the disappearance of the mermaids and mermen.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: He deeply loved his wife and loves [[ReplacementGoldfish Desideria]] as well.
* FreudianExcuse: He hates the merpeople because he mistakenly thinks they're responsible of the death of his wife during a shipwreck.
* FillerVillain: He becomes an antagonist for the heroes during a short time in the middle of the game. While it's somewhat subverted in the sense that he sells weapons to Yliandra's Faction, his incidence into the overarching plot is minimal, even though he was trying to find the key of the Dreadnought for them.
* HeelFaceDoorSlam: When he agrees to surrender and to face punishment for his crimes against the merpeople, he's killed by Gerard.
* {{Irony}}: He spent years hating the merpeople for the death of his wife, not knowing that she was herself a mermaid to begin with and that she didn't die in the shipwreck.
* {{Jerkass}}: Dowplayed. Not the most pleasant person you'll meet during the game, but he's more very demanding than really mean. And he's sometimes right when he criticizes Channing's decisions... like thinking that they can slay a Kraken. The same can be said about his attitude about Valencia's debt. Sure, he didn't leave Carmen much choice. But on the same time, he wants to recover his money. {{Subverted}} later, when we find out the true extent of his malevolence.
* JerkassHasAPoint: The way he says it to Channing is rather rude, but fighting a powerful Kraken is a very bad idea.
* LackOfEmpathy: He's perfectly okay with letting the Ponaredek/Desideria eat merpeople.
* RedemptionRejection: Although, surprisingly, a more sympathetic display of this trope than usual. When Cleodora reveals that she's his wife, whom he thought to be dead, he seems to hesitate for a brief moment. He then decides to continue his mission for the Faction, arguing that Bellahan would destroy Sabatini if he didn't give him the relic.
* WalkingSpoiler: He seems to just be a quirky millionaire at first- him being a villain is not revealed until much later.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Desideria (spoilers)]]
!The Ponaredek
Escobar's maid. An air of mystery surrounds this silent beauty. Also the Ponaredek, a monster terrorizing the Sabatini Region, attacking ships and merfolks alike. She's said to eat merfolk.
----
* CutscenePowerToTheMax: No matter if the player has a hard time against her or if the player steamrolls her, the narration will always act like the characters barely manage to survive after the fight.
* LoneWolfBoss: Subverted. Initially a recurring antagonist of the first half of the game, she seems to be unaffiliated with the Lunarosse Empire or the Yliandra Faction. It turns out that she works for Escobar, who is himself working for Yliandra's Faction.
* OurMermaidsAreDifferent: {{Subverted}}. She's a false mermaid.
* ReplacementGoldfish: She's one for Escobar, as she's a living mirror of his late wife. In fact, she was '''created''' by Bellahan to be this.
* TheReveal: She is the Ponaredek.
* ShoutOut: The Ponaredek resembles [[VideoGame/ResidentEvilCodeVeronica Alexia Ashford's first mutation]].
* UndyingLoyalty: Towards Escobar, even as the Ponaredek.
* WalkingSpoiler: Due to her actually being the Ponaredek, a minor antagonist.
[[/folder]]

!The Mastermind (True End Spoilers)

[[folder:The Illusion Master]]
!!Naamari/Dr. Dario Naumov
The true antagonist of the game, who only reveals himself in the GoldenPath. An ambassador and ex-boyfriend of Yliandra, he supposedly got assasinated by Gerard, sparking the events of the story. It is later revealed that he deliberately sparked the war to change Corlia's story into something more exiting.

In the real world, he was Corlia's doctor/therapist at the asylum she was sent to. As they bonded over her storytelling, he fell in love with her. His love, however, was unreciprocated, and he hated the role he was assigned by Corlia, and he thought her story in general was crap. Feeling rejected, disappointed, and all-around hurt, he decided to take over Corlia’s story for himself.
----
* BigBad: He's the one manipulating both factions to keep the story going and cause war for his own amusement.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: He presents himself as a sane ReasonableAuthorityFigure, but is in reality a petty ManipulativeBastard.
* DisappointedByTheMotive: His reason for changing the story of Corlia's world and throwing it into chaos? Not an understandable goal like getting home- but because he thought her story was bad (even though it was only her first one) and he didn't like the role he was assigned, and he was sour that Corlia didn't reciprocate his [[{{Yandere}} feelings]]. Channing gives him a TheReasonYouSuckSpeech over how lame it is.
* TheDogWasTheMastermind: The SacrificialLamb is actually the true BigBad of the game.
* EvilIsPetty: As Channing puts it, he's at heart both [[RageAgainstTheAuthor a disgruntled fanboy throwing a hissy fit because the book he was reading wasn't what he wanted]] and [[{{Yandere}} a pathetic loser who couldn't accept the fact that a woman didn't love him back]].
* FallenHero: From a psychologist trying to help Corlia overcome her issues to a delusional and petty lunatic who is far worse than she ever was in the sanity department.
* FlorenceNightingaleEffect: Dr. Dario Naumov was Corlia's therapist and, although he does try to deny it, he ended up developing feelings for his patient when she reached adulthood. Sadly, it went to {{Yandere}} levels.
* LiteralSplitPersonality: He, Bellahan and Zevahn are actually the three vessels of the same person, Dr. Dario Naumov. They do have distinct personalities though.
* LoveMakesYouEvil: He ended up developing feelings for Corlia in the real world, but she didn't love him back. It's one of the main reasons why he threw Lunarosse into chaos and changed Corlia's story.
* MalevolentMaskedMen: A domino mask. Though he initially seems like an aversion, he is in fact the mastermind behind the war.
* OneWingedAngel: As the FinalBoss of the GoldenPath, he takes on a monstruous form by fusing with Zevahn and Bellahan, his other vessels.
* PsychoPsychologist: His real identity is Corlia's therapist- and he destroys her story out of petty revenge that [[{{Yandere}} she didn't love him back]], never mind how unprofessional doctor-patient relationships are.
* PsychopathicManchild: He's explicitly compared to a bitter fanboy who's angry the actual author of a story he likes didn't agree with his views, and throwing a fit about how he DidNotGetTheGirl. Unlike Corlia, he also doesn't have the excuse of being literally insane or spending most of his youth in an asylum.
* RageAgainstTheAuthor: InUniverse example. His reason for waking Corlia in his own way was partially due to outrage as to how his character was portrayed in her story.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Seemingly this, especially compared to Abel, as he's not hostile towards the demi-humans he's supposed to make peace with. The GoldenPath later reveals that it was all an act.
* SacrificialLamb: His death is what makes the peace treaty fail and sparks the main plot. [[SubvertedTrope It later turns out]] that [[FakingTheDead he faked it.]]
* SmallRoleBigImpact: At first. He dies quickly, but his actions deeply affect the plot, as he hides the key of the Dreadnought and the Faction spends a good part of the game looking for it. It's revealed in the GoldenPath that he actually survived and willingly altered Corlia's story.
* SpannerInTheWorks: And willingly- his fake death at the peace treaty actually completely changes Corlia's story and alters the events of the game big time, as he intended.
* UnequalPairing: Wanted one with Corlia, as her therapist and she being an inpatient trapped in her own childhood. Averted, though, and he's ''really'' bitter about that.
* WalkingSpoiler: The GoldenPath shows his true involvement in the events of the game as the BigBad.
* WeUsedToBeFriends: With Yliandra, hence the reason why he was chosen to bring her the peace treaty. He used to be a part of the White Sun Order, like her. He was also Corlia Davis' therapist in the real world. Of course, he was likely using her.
* WhiteHairBlackHeart: As can be seen in his sprite and image, he has white hair, and he turns out to be the BigBad.
[[/folder]]

!Other Antagonists

[[folder:Maganda]]

The woman Channing's father is having an affair with. When the man tries to break up with her, she will reveal herself to be more possessive and more dangerous than she appears.
----
* MaybeMagicMaybeMundane: How she was able to make Colton fall in love with her. He claims that her perfume had hypnotic powers, but Channing finds this a little too convenient.
* MeaningfulAppearance: Her green hair is a clue of her true nature as a plant-like monster.
* OneWingedAngel: She's a plant-like monster who passes herself for a human woman.
* OptionalBoss: Only fought during an optional sidequest.
* {{Yandere}}: Towards Colton. She refuses to let him leave her and tries to kill Channing when he interferes.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Creid Maeus]]

The head of the slave trade, Creid Maeus is a cunning and ruthless businessman.
----
* AintTooProudToBeg: When the [[spoiler:fake]] Gerard arrives to kill him, he pathetically begs Channing to help him. [[spoiler:It turns out, however, that he somehow survived.]]
* DirtyCoward: As soon as he loses control, he reveals how much of a coward he is.
* FillerVillain: For the Slave Trade sidequest.
* HateSink: A smug cowardly slaver. The guy is a fusion of Abel's, Zevahn's and Escobar's worst traits, with a dose of DirtyCoward added to the mix. He seems to have been designed to be even more hateful than Abel himself. [[spoiler:There is, however, more to him.]]
* SmugSnake: When he thinks he is in control, he oozes smugness. He's far from being competent or strong enough to back up his claims however...
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Sojourner Vescual]]

Creid Maeus' lieutenant.
----
* BlackSheep: Her mother is actually fighting against the slave trade. Sojourner is one of its main enforcers.
* TheDragon: For Creid Maeus.
* IHaveBoobsYouMustObey: She managed to escape Llyr by using her feminine assets.
* SmugSnake: Just like her boss. Although she, at least, is strong enough to give a somewhat decent boss fight to the team.
[[/folder]]

!Others

[[folder:Rain and Rani]]

Tuntema's companions.
----
* ForgottenFallenFriend: {{Averted}}. Even long after their deaths, [[spoiler:Gloria]] continues to mention them. In fact, she was ready to kill [[spoiler:Noel]] on sight in order to avenge them when she learned that [[spoiler:Gerard was his split-personality]].
* NominalImportance: You know that something bad will happen to them, since their names aren't given by the game's menu. [[spoiler:We only learn their names after their deaths]].
* MauveShirt: They get a little characterization during the Prologue, then are killed by Gerard.
* WhatMeasureIsANonHuman: {{Averted}}. [[spoiler:Since they were not needed to break the spell trapping everyone into Lunarosse, it's safe to assume that they weren't part of the people trapped by Corlia. Therefore, they aren't real humans, but constructed creations of [[ConstructedWorld Lunarosse]].]] [[spoiler:Gloria]] still befriended them and was outraged by their deaths.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Taimi]]

A young Cheshire kid who quickly forms a bond with Apollo during the whole incident with the Cheshires. She's Sonia's daughter.
----
* AdorablyPrecociousChild: She's young and she's adorable, especially when she interacts with Apollo.
* BigBrotherWorship: Her relationship with Apollo has shades of this, even though they aren't related.
* CatFolk: A Cheshire kid.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Valencia Jimenez]]

Carmen's mother. She lives in Sabatini.
----
* AmazinglyEmbarrassingParents:
--> '''Carmen''': "I said I'll be careful, Mom. I never break my promises to you."
--> '''Valencia''': "Except when it comes to cleaning your room..."
--> '''Carmen''': "[=MOOOM!=]"
* GoodParents: She's Carmen's mother and loves her dearly...
** ParentsAsPeople: ... although it's also because of her spendings that the family is in debt and Carmen had to join Bahrmuel's guild to gather the money to refund it.
* SupremeChef: She's a great cook.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Tuntema]]

See also [[spoiler:Gloria Harper]].
* InTheHood: In order to disguise her true identity.
* SamusIsAGirl: Revealed early on, although her true identity remains hidden longer.
* WalkingSpoiler: The reveal of her true identity changes a lot of things.

* BigBrotherBully: Downplayed example. He's the older brother of Ouri and can be a jerk towards him, but this trait is eventually toned down.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He sometimes acts like a {{Jerkass}}, but deep down, he cares about Ouri and Nerida. A good example would be [[EstablishingCharacterMoment his first scene]]. He starts by mocking his brother for his weakness, gets worried for Nerida's safety and says that he will let Ouri (back then turned into a human) and the other humans drown. Then, when they faint, he gives to each of them one of his scales to allow them to breath under water.

The queen of the merpeople.
----
* TheHighQueen: For the merpeople.
* TheLostLenore: She's [[spoiler:Escobar's wife]], who was presumed dead.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: For the merpeople. Even though her kind is wary of humans, she listens to Channing and his team when they tell her her kingdom is in danger.
* StarCrossedLover: With [[spoiler:Placido Escobar]], a human. She left him because, as a mermaid, she thought that she couldn't be with him and she feared his reaction if he found out her true nature.
* TogetherInDeath: [[spoiler:She dies shortly after Escobar]].

[[folder:Colton Farrow]]

Channing's father. His son doesn't consider him a good role model, to say the least.
----
* DistressedDude: Briefly captured by Vaarn in order to lure Channing into a trap.
* JerkassRealization: After being trapped in Vaarn's despair and getting a TheReasonYouSuckSpeech from his son about his affair with another woman, he realizes his wrongs and tries to make amends with his wife and end his affair.

[[folder:Deandra Farrow]]

Channing's mother.
----
* BewareTheNiceOnes: If the threats she makes to Colton are to be believed.
* DamselInDistress: Briefly captured by Vaarn in order to lure Channing into a trap.
* GoodParents: She seems to be a far better parent (and role model) for her son than Colton.

The spirit that protects the Izumo Region.
----
* BigDamnHeroes: [[spoiler:She fuses with Himiko to save her, then uses their combined powers to stop Mount Aso from erupting]].
* BigGood: For the most part, she's this for Izumo region.
* BlueAndOrangeMorality: She's mostly a benevolent entity, but she still curses the couples who choose to do the lovers' trial and then stops it before the end. Himiko implies that this is a question of loyalty (or in that case, disloyalty) towards the spirits.

[[folder:The Goddess (spoilers)]]
!!Lunarosse/Eris

A powerful goddes who comes to Channing's help in the true path.
----
* DarkIsNotEvil: She looks like a witch and [[spoiler:is actually the Goddess of Discord]], but she tries to help Channing and his friends escape Lunarosse.
* GodWasMyCopilot: [[spoiler:Eris, the Goddess of Discord,]] aids the party late in the game due to the unusual nature of Lunarosse's existence
* ShoutOut: Aside from the Greek Mythology reference, she looks like [[Videogame/SuikodenV Zerase]].
* UnexpectedCharacter: Let's just say that nobody could expect that [[spoiler:a physical incarnation of the world itself]], later revealed to be [[spoiler:the Greek Goddess of Discord]], would make an appearance.
