!The Core Members

[[folder:In General]]
* BadassCrew: Definitely. As the core of a team fighting the antagonistic forces to SaveBothWorlds. Dan is the most powerful brawler on Earth, Shun is equally powerful and he's in addition a skilled ninja and Marucho is TheTeamBenefactor of the group and a BadassBookworm.
* ChromaticArrangement: Dan, Shun and Marucho wear respectively red, green and blue representing Pyrus (Fire), Ventus (Ventus) and Aquos (Water). {{Subverted}} in Season 1 [[EarlyInstallmentWeirdness where Shun wore a purple outfit instead of a green one]].
* FourTemperamentEnsemble: The three guys plus Drago are this.
** Dan is choleric - passionate, strong-willed, slighty arrogant
** Drago is snguine - feisty, leader, idealist
** Marucho is melancholic - sensitive, sometimes insecure, analytical
** Shun is phlegmatic - calm, introverted, discreet
* FreudianTrio: Dan is implusive and hot-headed representing TheId, Shun is quiet and laid-back as TheSuperego and cheerful but tactical Marucho is TheEgo.
* PowerTrio: They are the main heroes of the show, being the only consistent members of the team across all four seasons.
* ThreePlusTwo: Or rather Three plus three. After the first season, they're generally joined by three other members to complete the element hexagram (with Subterra, Haos and Darkus attributes). {{Averted}} in the second arc of Mechtanium Surge, where they instead each get a secondary partner Bakugan (two in Shun's case) that belongs to one of the other three attributes and use two attributes instead of just one, with Dan using Pyrus and Haos, Shun using Ventus and Darkus, and Marucho using Aquos and Subterra.

!!'''Dan Kuso'''
[[quoteright:261:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/f2df36cf423e0ed308eba1c26be551ee.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:261:Dan's appearance during the first fourteen episodes of ''Gundalian Invaders'']]
[[AC:Debuted In: Battle Brawlers]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/YuuKobayashi (JP), Creator/ScottMcCord (EN), Creator/EduardoGarza (LA SP)

Danma "Dan" Kuso is the main protagonist of the series and the boisterous and fearless leader of the Bakugan Battle Brawlers.

Dan is a boy who really loves Bakugan, but gets frustrated easily. His greatest ambition is [[ToBeAMaster to become the strongest brawler as much as possible]], which is what he attains at the last episode of the first season. He tends to act rash and impulsive which often leads him to trouble.

He is very eager for a brawl, thinking he can take on anyone which causes him to complain a lot when he has to wait around in hiding, as shown in the first and second season. By the third season, Dan has outgrown that habit as he was telling Jake to help rebuild the second shield generator after they had a successful victory over the Gundalians. His gutsy hands on approach and bottomless courage has earned him powerful allies in the Vestals, the Castle Knights, and every brawler on his planet looks up to him.

He first lived in Wardington for the first two seasons with his friends Runo Misaki, Marucho Marukura and Shun Kazami. He moved to Bayview in ''Bakugan: Gundalian Invaders'', and somehow Julie became his neighbor. In Bayview, he made friends with a boy named Jake Vallory. He was the number 1 Brawler in Bakugan Interspace until he was "defeated" by Anubias (Dan was actually disqualified in the brawl).

By the end of the series, Dan is considered the strongest brawler in the universe and holds the title of #1 as he goes on another journey with his best friend Drago.
----
* AbandonedCatchphrase: It didn't stick but him and Baron definitely loved saying "Get Psyched! Get Psyched! Get Psyched!"
* TheAce: He gradually grows into this with Drago during each season. Shun was a much better brawler than Dan during the first season but Dan's skills as a brawler continued to sky rocket until near the end of Season 1 where he became the best brawler of the team and is now usually the one who has to save the day when his friends are faced with an enemy they cant handle.
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: Shun was this to him during the early stages of the series. Shun was not only a better Brawler than he was, he was calmer, wiser, and more popular than Dan was among his peers (probably not on Dan's mind but it counts). Eventually, Dan begins to grow in spades and then finally surpasses Shun, promptly switching the roles between them.
* BadassAdorable: You can't deny it.
* BadassNormal: As far as we know, Dan is a normal human being. Yup, a normal human who when motivated enough can ''run so fast that he blitzes over water''. Not only that, he can run up a moving '''dragon''' and aim well enough to throw a spear directly into its chest. At least with Shun it's justified since he's a ninja in training, but with Dan he's supposed to be a normal kid and yet look at his feats!
* BashBrothers: With Shun. He then eventually becomes this with [[spoiler:Spectra]] during the 2nd Season.
* BerserkButton: Suspecting that one of his closest friends is a "deserter" can really set him off, as Ace found out.
-->'''Dan:''' ''WE HAVE TO GO LOOK FOR MARUCHO!''
* BloodKnight: As Spectra puts it:
-->'''Spectra:''' Oh, that Kuso '''loves''' a fight!
* BookDumb: Like any typical shōnen protagonist, he gets horrible grades and focuses his time more on games than actually studying.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: During Season 4, [[spoiler:Mag Mel and Razenoid end up controlling Dan's mind through Drago and is a major part of the reason why Dan loses control of himself during a brawl in that Season. It gets too bad that Dan begins to endanger the safety of kids watching the battles and he leaves the Brawlers because of it, hoping to find a way to control that power.]]
* CharacterDevelopment: At the start of the series, Dan was [[{{Jerkass}} brash, hot-headed, aggressive]], and never planned his next move ahead. He truly believed that power was all that was needed to win a Bakugan battle. After he meets Drago and goes through several battles, Dan realizes that strategy plays a giant role in Bakugan and opts himself to plan ahead. Along with his skills as a brawler, Dan develops as a human being over the course of the series and becomes much more humble, less immature, and thinks his decisions through during the later seasons.
* ChickMagnet: Yup. Runo is quite obviously in love with him (and they go on a date in finale), Julie ''had'' a huge crush on him during the beginning of the series, Alice (and Julie) mentioned she wanted to give Dan a hug for how brave he was, Mira was definitely feeling him during ''New Vestoria'', and [[WarriorPrincess Fabia]] had a crush on him as well. The only main girl in the series that never shows romantic interest in him is [[{{Tomboy}} Paige]].
* ChildhoodFriends: With Runo and Shun. He met the former when he was a kid once but never saw her again while he has known the latter since they were small boys.
* TheChosenOne: He was destined to be Drago's partner, automatically making him this.
* {{Determinator}}: If his battle with Masquerade and Spectra is any indication, '''the boy just doesn't know how to stay down'''.
* DubNameChange: In the English version, his name was changed into "Daniel". Makes sense considering Dan is the shortened version of Daniel in the west.
* EvenTheGuysWantHim: Spectra/Keith's obsession towards Dan.
* GogglesDoNothing: He has a pair on his head, but outside of one instance in season one, they're just for show.
* HeroicBSOD: Too many times during the series to count, but most prominently when Drago was defeated by Masquerade and sent to the Doom Dimension and when he lost to Spectra and Drago was taken as were the agreements of the match.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Shun and Marucho, to a lesser extent.
* HotBlooded: One of his signature traits that align with his Bakugan attribute.
* IconicItem: Only ''Battle Brawlers'' wear fingerless gloves.
* IdiotHero: Not as much as you'd expect but still easily one of the dumbest characters of the cast. It comes with being the hero of a Shonen anime.
* ItsAllAboutMe: Had this attitude in Season 1 and the first half of Season 4. While Season 1 was justified as Dan was only just a stubborn 12-year-old rookie who bit off more than he could chew, Season 4 made little to no sense as Dan's growth was halted and his personality reversed, going from a caring and understanding leader to a reclusive jerk that brushed aside advice from two of his closest friends. In both cases, he did get better.
** This gets a focus in Season 1 of the Japanese dub, where his lack of understanding and care of his friend's feelings has caused at least three different fallouts to almost happen. Part of his CharacterDevelopment is learning to listen to others and to be more mindful.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: His jerkish tendencies are apparent during Season 1 and he learns to become a better friend. During Season 2, he becomes slightly less jerkish but still shows shades of this towards people he doesn't like. In Season 3, Dan has mellowed out considerably and only acts like a jerk towards those who are evil. Season 4, however, is where this goes out of hand as Dan begins acting out much more than he did as a kid and begins treating his closest friends badly, mainly ignoring them and even breaking the promise he made to tell them about Drago's problems. He gets better when he realizes near the end how selfish and how much of an idiot he was being.
* TheLeader: Becomes the official leader of the brawlers in the middle of Season 1 and remains the leader all the way up until Season 4 where he leaves his position and Shun takes charge. He regains his status as leader at the end of Season 4 and it stays with him.
* MindlinkMates: A non-romantic and incredibly dark version.[[spoiler:After Drago evolve into Titanium Dragonoid, he suddenly has PsychicLink with series BigBad, Mag Mel. As the result, both of them able to sense each other through telepathy, and Mag Mel constantly MindRape Dan by using this.]]
* MrFanservice: Constantly has his outfits torn to shreds whenever he battles a serious opponent, most notably with Masquerade.
* OutOfCharacterMoment: His entire character in Season 4 really doesn't act like the Dan that we all know he is. Ignoring his friends, keeping everything to himself, refusing to stop allowing Drago to brawl despite knowing that brawling is the cause of the dilemma's happening? Let's not forget Dan ignoring his adoring ''fans'', that really doesn't sound like Dan at all. Spectra even lampshades this when he meets Dan in that season, showing disappointment as his "new" attitude and has stated that Dan has lost his spark. Thankfully, his character is restored to how he was supposed to be during Part 2 of Season 4, becoming the person he was meant to become.
* PlayingWithFire: Like Dan has stated, he's a Pyrus Brawler. His use of Bakugan isn't ''completely'' limited to that attribute but its his main thing.
* SayMyName:
-->'''Dan:''' "DRAGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
* SheIsNotMyGirlfriend: Tried to invoke this with Runo during New Vestroia but ''everyone'' doesn't believe him. I mean, really Dan, who are you trying to convince?
-->'''Shun & Drago:''' She's not?
* ShipTease: With Runo and arguably with Mira and Fabia. These shipping moments happen less and less as the series stops having girl characters being a prominent part of the series.
* StockShonenHero: Dan has the spiky hair, red colours, determined attitude, BookDumb aspects, HotBlooded nature, and wants ToBeAMaster.
* ToBeAMaster: His dream was to be the best brawler in the entire world. He obtains that dream and in the process, gains a new one which is saving the world and protecting whats important to him.
* TotallyRadical: In the first few episodes of ''Battle Brawlers''.
* TookALevelInJerkass: Season 4 has Dan becoming more selfish and ignorant. He deliberately refuses to stop using Drago in their battles and is always hostile towards his friends, despite his dark side making him crazy. When he returns from training, he expected everyone to praise him and listen to him and him alone. However, he got more insane when everyone who [[BrokenPedestal once looked up to him]] branded him a hated outcast. His worst act is, after Marucho honestly calls him a "risk", Dan ''grabbed him by the neck while screaming in his face.''
* UndyingLoyalty: When Dan had lost his official battle with Masquerade and ended up getting Drago banished to the Doom Dimension (which ''everyone'' knew was the equivalent to hell for Bakugan), Dan ''ran after him without a moment's hesitation and jumped in with him''. That's right, Dan was willing to ''give up his life on Earth just to remain by Drago's side''. If the kid's got one thing, it's loyalty.
* VitriolicBestBuds: With Shun.
* WorldsStrongestMan: Considered the best Brawler on Earth and is always Ranked # 1 on the boards. There are very few Brawlers around that can match him, especially considering the frequent evolution his partner Bakugan go through. Even though he lost his title to Anubius during his match, it was mainly because Drago was busy trying to contain his power and not endanger the safety of the fans watching. If it had been a fair fight, he and Drago would have easily won the match.

!!'''Marucho Marukura'''

For an eleven-year-old, Marucho is wise beyond his years. Studious, he studies the strategy of Bakugan as well as being a bit of a walking encyclopedia. Marucho is the only son of a millionaire. In the Bakugan battles, Marucho devises strategy based on in-depth data analysis but sometimes misjudges his spur-of-the-moment decisions based only on data.

He is a wealthy, generous boy who specializes in Aquos. He is the brain of the Brawlers, a real walking encyclopedia. He loves to play Bakugan and work on strategies. He used to be extremely obedient to his parents out of fear, but that changed when he joined the Brawlers; however, he is still very obedient. He now has no regrets for the past, realizing that he only wanted to make his parents happy. Marucho has a butler named Kato.

As a sidekick to Dan, Marucho helps work out which Bakugan would be best to pit against one's opponent. He worries about all of the Brawlers, but especially Dan. Marucho is a master of combination play, and uses water attributes in battle.
----
* AlliterativeName: '''M'''arucho '''M'''arukura.
** Averted by his real name; see OnlyKnownByTheirNickname below.
* AmbiguouslyBi: Marucho is clearly interested in some girls, especially IdolSinger Jewels (given he faints when she kisses him after the brawl against Naga' s Warriors near the end of the original) and Alice makes him blush at one point, but he also gets HoYay with Ren, especially [[https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/marucho3_7730.jpg this scene]] where he actively ''puts his hand on his crotch''.
* AffectionateParody:
** Elfin of ''Franchise/SailorMoon''.
** Minx Elfin is just plain Baku Moon.
* BattleCouple: Elfin and Preyas.
* BadassAdorable: His size, big eyes, and voice! It says it all!
* BlueMeansSmartOne: Marucho is the smart one among the brawlers, as he's very logical and he knows a lot about the rules of the game. He uses [[MakingASplash Aquos Bakugan]], which are blue in color, and his outfits always incorporate blue.
* CharacterCatchphrase:
-->[-'''Akwimos:''' Cool is the rule dude!-]
* FormalCharactersUseKeigo: Befitting of a young master, Marucho speaks very formally and respectfully in the Japanese dub, to the point of even referring to his friends with the honorific ''-san''.
* GoodAngelBadAngel: Angelo and Diablo.
* IdiotBall: Marucho's loss in episode 2 of Gundalian Invaders involves him ''not preparing for a strategy that was just used on him''.
* IdiotHair: Has the worst hairdo of the heroes.
* IHatePastMe: He used to hate his old self due to being very obedient to his parents and unable to make decisions on his own, something which changes after he becomes a battle brawler. However, he learns to accept his past after Preyas makes him realize that he chose to listen to his parents because he wanted to make them happy.
* HairAntennae: His IdiotHair shape resemble with fish tail, represent his main elements.
* TheHeart: Marucho as of ''Gundalian Invaders'', cemented in ''Mechtanium Surge''.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Ren in Gundalian Invaders.
* MakingASplash: Most of his Bakugan are Aquos Bakugan with the attribute of water.
* TheSmartGuy: His main role at Battle Brawler team
* TheStrategist: As TheSmartGuy of his team, he often think about the strategist to winning. After Alice left in ''New Vestroia'', he become the only strategist in Battle Brawlter team.
* PutOnABus: Preyas, Angelo, Diablo and Elfin. Though TheBusCameBack briefly for Preyas in both New Vestroia and Mechtanium Surge.
* SailorSenshiSendUp: Elfin. She visually evokes Usagi in appearance (she is blonde, wears a hairstyle resembling a frog head, but whose "eyes" correspond to Usagi's buns, and with long finlike appendages that correspond to Usagi's long pigtails). She has a long, magical girl-like TransformationSequence, and strikes the InTheNameOfTheMoon pose.
-->'''Elfin:''' Sun, wind and rain combined! InTheNameOfTheMoon! Behold Aquos/Ventus/Darkus (depending on her chosen attribute) Elfin!
* OlderThanTheyLook: Marucho is ''seventeen'' by the end of the series. He's still at Dan's waist.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: You didn't know his name was Choji till now.
* TheQuietOne: Preyas, more or less.
* TookALevelInBadass: Like Shun, ''Mechtanium Surge'' has been quite kind to him in the badass department.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Shun Kazami]]
!!'''Shun Kazami'''

The [[TheStoic strong silent type]]. Along with Dan, Shun co-created the rules and regulations of Bakugan and is a master of the game. Shun is a loner, a boy of very few words, yet is willing to help his friends at every turn. He approaches the game like a Ninja warrior, very calculating. Shun uses the wind attributes in battle. Many fans like to pair him with Alice, although throughout the series he has shown tiny interest in Julie Makimoto.

Shun is one of the calmest brawlers in the series. He rarely gets flustered or annoyed, and even when he is annoyed, he maintains a cool voice (although he voices his displeasure). Shun is a lone wolf and always focuses in battles.

Shun Kazami lives in the province, and is a Ventus attribute player. He is also an aspiring ninja, receiving training from his grandfather. He is a loner, yet is willing to help his friends at all costs. Together with Dan Kuso, his best friend and childhood friend, he invented the gameplay for Bakugan. He had been the first ranked battler until Masquerade and his minions dominated the rankings, and because he quit playing Bakugan due to grief after his mother's death (His grandfather didn't let him play in the dub), ending up in 6th place. After defeating Komba, he ends up fifth. Shun is currently in 3rd place.

Shun reappears in Bakugan: Mechtanium Surge with Ventus Taylean. Shun is now 4th strongest Brawler in Bakugan Interspace, behind Dan, Anubias, and Sellon, respectively. However, this is due to him not battling as much as he used to - due to his ninja training. He is starting to get suspicious of what Dan and Drago are doing. Later, he is seen commenting on whether Drago and Zenthon are connecting - due to the timing.
----
* AbusiveParents: [[DubPersonalityChange In the dub, at least.]] Shun's grandfather is adamant that he will become a ninja, and even declared he will make him focus on his training just seconds after his mother fell into a coma. He brutally isolates Shun from his friends, and is incredibly hostile to anyone not named Shun. You can hardly blame Shun for having such a hard time trying to come back into Bakugan in this version. Though as a result of DubInducedPlothole, he has, though rarely, shown a more compassionate side to him, such as when he forced Shun to show him around town and spent time with his grandson. Generally, though he rarely shows it, he cares for the well being of his grandson perhaps more than him becoming a ninja champion.
* TheAce: He's one of the best brawlers at the beginning of the series and even after Dan becomes stronger than him, he's got still a fairly high rank. He's also a quite proficient ninja.
* AdaptationalBackstoryChange: Out of all of the Battle Brawlers, Shun's the only one to have a somewhat major deviation from his original backstory due to changes to both his mother and grandfather. For reference, originally, Shiori had passed away while Shun's grandfather had no ill will, simply explaining the situation about Skyress and Shiori to Shun, setting up Shun's story and development to revolve around his grief over his mother's passing. Meanwhile in the dub, Shiori simply slipped into a coma in the dub rather than passing away, and his grandfather wanted to force Shun to focus on his ninja training thus causing Shun to greatly resent him.
* BadassLongcoat: In New Vestroia he wears a loooong vest that is just as awesome.
* BlowYouAway: Most of his Bakugan have the Ventus attribute.
* BrokenBird: Losing his mother caused him to shut out essentially everyone in his life except for Skyress. With the help of his friends, he gets better.
* ChildhoodFriends: With Dan, who is his best friend.
* ConvenientlyAnOrphan: Shun doesn’t have a father, AND his mother fell terminally ill and eventually died, leaving just his grandfather to look after him.
* DaddyIssues: [[DubPersonalityChange More like granddaddy issues but in the dub]], it is made clear that Shun deeply resents his grandfather for trying to turn him into a ninja so soon after his mother fell into a coma (In the dub only, the original had his mom dying). The two make up by the end of the series as part of their CharacterDevelopment.
* DisappearedDad: His father is never mentioned or made appearance in series.[[MysteriousParent It's never know whether he and Shiori are divorced or already passed away.]]
* DubPersonalityChange: Thanks to his AdaptationalBackstoryChange, instead of having given up on Bakugan out of grief, his grandfather basically forced Shun to stop seeing his friends and playing Bakugan which in turn makes him a much more brooding and sardonic lone wolf-type of character as opposed to the original Japanese dub where he's shown to be a rather gentle and quiet person dealing with grief.
* ExpositoryHairstyleChange: His hair slowly grows back in Mechtanium Surge.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: His first appearance has him firmly reject Runo and Marucho's appeal to join them, only for Skyress to coax him out of it, before being adamant they have to beat him. Despite clearly not having played the game for awhile, Shun manages to defeat two opponents very easily, and even when he is given a temporary loss by Preyas's attribute change ability, he takes it in stride, establishing himself as a very formidable player.
* TheLancer: Shun, co-lancer with Runo (at least in the first season).
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Dan, who also his ChildhoodFriends.
* HiddenDepths : His ability to discern people and their motives makes him into a LivingLieDetector.
* {{Foil}}: To Dan, who is more hot-headed, loud and arrogant hero than him
* ImportantHaircut: Between Battle Brawlers and New Vestroia, he cuts his long ponytail and his hair is reduced to neck-length.
* MissingMom: His ill mother died in the hospital after giving Skyress to him, who becomes a TragicKeepsake after that. The event however caused Shun to quit playing Bakugan out of grief until the other Battle Brawlers seeked him out for help against Masquerade. The English dub, however, changed it to look like she just fell into a coma, although the beep indicating a flatline ruins that explanation.
* MovingBeyondBereavement: In the Doom Dimension, Shun's test is to accept the death of his mother; as such, his rival is his mother as a little girl.
* NotSoStoic: Despite being introduced as the stoic ninja, Shun's cool façade is ultimately just an act born out of the grief of losing his mother (or in the dub's case, his grandfather isolating him). It breaks when his mother is on her deathbed.
** Happens again in Season 4 when trying to talk some sense into Dan.
* TheQuietOne: He lacks in speech, but he makes up for it with skill.
* RaisedByGrandparents: His grandfather is looking after him since the disappearance/presumed death of his father and the coma/actual death of his mother.
* RedOniBlueOni: The blue to Dan's red.
* TheRival: To Dan at first, though it later becomes a more FriendlyRivalry.
* SecretlySelfish: When his mother was on her deathbed, he challenged Dan to a battle with the intent of making it last forever so his mother would remain alive.
* ShipTease: With Alice in ''Battle Brawlers'' and Fabia in ''Gundalian Invaders''.
* SugarAndIcePersonality: Shun is very quiet to the point of being seen as cold and distant at times, but he's in fact a very kind person that cares deeply for his friends.
* StockShonenRival: While he is friendlier than the norm, Shun still fits. He's strong, a TallDarkAndHandsome rival towards Dan who enjoys being alone.
* TookALevelInBadass: In ''Mechtanium Surge'', he becomes the leader of the Brawlers when Dan takes off and takes his fighting skills up a notch. Taylean even becomes strong enough to create a Mechtogan, something only the BigBad Mag Mel and Drago were previously able to doing (and Mag Mel was impressed when Drago did it).
* UsedToBeASweetKid: While downplayed as he's still a kind character, flashbacks during the first season show that he was much more outgoing, energetic, and social prior to his mother's death.
* VitriolicBestBuds: With Dan.
* YouAreNotAlone: Arguably the biggest part of his CharacterDevelopment (in the Japanese dub) is him realizing that he isn't alone and that he doesn't have to deal with his grief alone.

Drago (original version: Nova Dragon) is Dan Kuso's Guardian Bakugan and the Bakugan main protagonist of the Bakugan Battle Brawlers anime series. He serves as both a battle partner, a guardian, and source of wisdom. Although he is impatient and is a pacifist, he wants to help Dan protect Earth and Vestroia.

He is the direct descendant of the original Dragonoid, one of the first two Bakugan ever created. He is one of the most powerful species living in Vestroia, able to infinitely evolve on his own. In battle, his power is to radiate intense heat from his body, dissolving everything around him.

Drago's personality resembles that of an honorable knight; he has a strong sense of justice, never allows anyone to get away with their evil deeds, is fully commited to the greater good, and holds high regard for honor and justice. He has, on more than one occasion, been willing to sacrifice his own life to save the lives of others, or for the greater good.

He also is shown to be rather fearless, rarely being afraid in the face of danger and rarely shows any distress or panic in any situation. While he is willing to fight to protect the innocent and for sport, he usually dislikes fighting on the spur of the moment and when it is for someone's own selfish or evil intentions, which he regards as meaningless.

* AllLovingHero: While not at first, Drago eventually came to put the safety of the Bakugan (and humans) above his own when the possibility of both of their worlds being destroyed comes awfully close to becoming a reality.
* AscendedToAHigherPlaneOfExistence: He becomes part of the Perfect Core at the end of Season 1. It doesn’t last however as he gets his physical form back by the start of Season 2.
* BigGood: After season 1, he becomes the leader of all Bakugan.
* BloodKnight: Like his Brawler, Drago loves a good fight. However, he knows when to rely on strategy rather than brute force, though this later gets downplayed in later seasons.
* BroughtDownToBadass: Season 2 has him being separated from the Perfect Core and regaining his physical form as Neo Dragonoid. While nowhere near as powerful as when he was Infinity Dragonoid, he's more than capable of putting up a fight against any Bakugan thrown at him.
* TheChosenOne: [[spoiler: It turns out that Drago (along with Dharak) possesses the Ultimate Warrior Gene and are direct descendants to the first two original Bakugan ever made. Because of this, both Drago and Dharak have the potential of becoming the most powerful Bakugan in existence if they are able to find their chosen partners.]]
* DeadpanSnarker: Definitely counts for this in the first two seasons but surprisingly tones it down by Season 3 and by Season 4, Drago has practically become Dan just in Bakugan form.
* DraconicHumanoid: After his evolution near the end of Season 2, Drago takes on the form of a humanoid dragon and gains human limbs.
* IChooseToStay: At the end of Season 2, Drago chose to stay on Earth with Dan rather than live on New Vestroia with his brothers and sisters. It really shows how much Drago cares for Dan.
* CompositeCharacter: Cross Dragonoid incorporates features of Apollonir's battle form onto Drago.
* IntergenerationalFriendship: While Drago is stated to be young by Bakugan standards, it is made obvious that Drago is a young adult, given how much more mature he is when we first meet him. He is friends with Dan, a 12 year old boy.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Despite his rough and tough exterior, Drago is actually a big softie and will do anything to protect those that he cares for.
* FaceHeelTurn: {{Downplayed|Trope}}. [[spoiler:After Dan loses to Spectra during their brawl, Spectra takes Drago and brainwashes him into becoming an obedient slave that doesn't even recognize Dan.]]
* HairTriggerTemper: It is stated that before meeting Dan, Drago had a much more violent temper.
* HeroesFrontierStep: While he clearly dislikes Dan initially, he tries to be friendly with Dan, indicating that despite his demeanor on the outside, he does care deeply about others.
** It is also indicated by Wavern that Drago saw her as a normal Bakugan instead of a powerless white Bakugan that was powerless, which apparently is rare among Bakugan, given that white Bakugan are frequently discriminated against.
* HeroicSacrifice: At the end of Season 1, Drago chooses to give up his physical body to become the new core of New Vestroia so that the balance between the dimensions can be maintained. [[spoiler:He gets better, though.]]
* HeroicWillpower: He is hit by the shockwave of negative energy that sent a fear ripper insane with fear, and managed to maintain not only his powers of reason, but his ability to speak.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Dan.
* {{Hypocrite}}: In episode 3 of New Vestroia, he criticizes Dan when Dan is convinced that only Drago is needed, pointing out he needs backup and that there is strength in numbers. If he was so worried about numbers, he probably should have considered asking Runo, Julie, or Marucho.
* IdiotBall: At the beginning of New Vestroia, Drago is sent to Earth to bring a human to help the Resistance liberate the Bakugan. He meets up with Dan and his friends, and promptly explain what is happening. All of the Brawlers present volunteer to help. Drago decides he only needs Dan, as he knows he can count on Dan, but does not want to put the others in harm's way. Drago worked with the other brawlers back in Season 1, and he knows they can be formidable fighters when needed, not to mention Marucho, Julie, and Runo all risked their lives for Vestroia back in Season 1, so his decision to keep them in the dark in order to avoid putting them in danger really doesn't make sense.
** Even more bizarrely, Drago decides to just tell the Brawlers to turn around, and then urges Dan to leave discreetly. He could have just told the other three that he only needed Dan, or that he could have taken all three of the other Brawlers to New Vestroia, and it certainly would have spared a lot of trouble later in the show, given how livid Runo and Julie are over convincing Dan to ditch them, and Marucho managing to sneak in to the portal.
* MrExposition: While all of the main Bakugan in Season 1 do this from time to time with the humans, he does it the most often, especially in regards to the plotline and the Bakugan that debut later in the first season.
* NotInFrontOfTheKid: He tells this to Wavern when they reunite. He clearly is happy to see her again, but he leaves their reunion at mostly friendly banter, and while he acknowledges her pet name for him, and concedes that they are in a romantic relationship, he urges Wavern not to blatantly flirt with him in front of the Brawlers, as they are only innocent children. This has Wavern do it more to him.
* NotSoAboveItAll: When Runo embraces Tigerrara after the previous shot hinted at a romantic moment, Drago teases Dan by saying "The ladies love the Bakugan.", knowing that Dan was expecting a romantic moment, despite Dan arguing he didn't have feelings for her, and he is clearly trying to avoid laughing when Dan responds.
* OnlySaneMan: Early on in the seasons, Drago was not afraid of voicing out his disapproval of Dan's strategies and was usually the first to reprimand Dan whenever he was acting like an idiot. Later seasons, however, show that Drago has lost this aspect of his character as he follows all of Dan's ideas without question, even when its blatantly obvious that they aren't the wisest choice of action. He is also fully willing to reprimand one of his fellow Bakugan if they do something incredibly foolish or reckless.
* PhysicalGod: His evolutions had gradually made him stronger; to the point that he had became a god-like being among other Bakugan.
* PlayingWithFire: He's a Pyrus Bakugan, what'd you expect?
* PoweredArmor: The Maxus Trap Bakugan can combine with him to give him this, becoming Maxus Dragonoid and again after evolving as Maxus Cross Dragonoid.
* SeenItAll: There is very little that will make him visibly nervous in the show.
* StarCrossedLovers: With Wavern. It's a terrible shame that their love couldn't be anything more due to both of them ending up sacrificing themselves for the greater good.
* TeamDad: Acts this way towards the other Bakugan.
* TookALevelInBadass: Each and every time Drago goes through an evolution, you can bet he'll come back twice as strong as he was before; packing some sweet new ability cards.
* TranquilFury: He rarely shows his anger outright, with his tone and body expressions making it clear he is livid, but his voice makes it clear when he is really angry.
* UndyingLoyalty: Though not at first, Drago's bond with Dan continued to grow until the point that both of them just can't function without the other.
* VitriolicBestBuds: With Preyas. Drago clearly dislikes Preyas's comedic antics and one liners, but he is saddened when Preyas “dies” in Season 1.
* WorldsStrongestMan: He’s the most powerful Bakugan in existence.
* WorthyOpponent: He considers Helios this.
* YouCanTalk: He expresses surprise when Dan's mother reveals that she can hear him.

[[folder:Marucho's Bakugan]]
!!'''Aquos Preyas'''

[[AC:Debuted In: Battle Brawlers]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Eiji Miyashita (JP), Shawn Meunier (EN), Rodrigo Carralero (LA SP)

* BewareTheSillyOnes: As the Vexos found out, Preyas is a force to be reckoned with when pissed. He is the only one of the original six aside from Drago to score a win against their second generation of Mechanical Bakugan, and in fact beat ''two'' of them at once, one of which had previously bested Alpha Hydranoid.
* BreakoutCharacter: Out of the six original fighting Bakugan, he got the most spotlight after Season 1 and in fact remained Marucho's partner in ''New Vestroia'''s second half, together with Elfin. Though he is absent for all of season 3, he makes several guest appearances in ''Mechtanium Surge'', acting as the leader of the Bakugan living on New Vestroia.
* ButtMonkey: He gets this a lot until he "evolves".
* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: He and Elfin (and Ingram) are nowhere to be seen after the final battle of ''New Vestroia'' and no reason is ever given for their sudden absence, not even after TheBusCameBack in ''Mechtanium Surge''.
* DeadpanSnarker: Half his jokes are this.
* MechanicallyUnusualClass: He is the first of only a handful of Bakugan that can willingly change their attribute, with his usuals being Darkus and Subterra. Two of the three other ones learned it from him. And that's not even getting into how he "evolved".
* MisterSeahorse: His "evolution" basically involves him giving birth to a Bakugan who includes both Angelo and Diablo into one.
* NoCelebritiesWereHarmed: Often does impersonations.
* TookALevelInBadass: Notably gains the largest power boost without ever really evolving even once.
----
!!'''Aquos+Haos Preyas Angelo'''
[[AC:Debuted In: Battle Brawlers]]

* DeadpanSnarker: He introduces himself saying that he requires every second Monday off, and he's not available to do windows.
* LightIsGood: He's a Haos and the good form of Preyas's evolution.
* MechanicallyUnusualClass: Preyas "evolved" by spitting out two equally powerful twin brothers who had uniquely merged Elements and shared a ball form.
----
!!'''Aquos+Pyrus Preyas Diablo'''
[[AC:Debuted In: Battle Brawlers]]
* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: Oddly, the duo were completely absent from ''New Vestroia'', even after Preyas returned to Marucho. Diablo (but not Angelo) returns in the final season as part of the army of past Bakugan defending New Vestroia, but is the first to die.
* DarkIsNotEvil: {{Downplayed}} as his secondary attribute is Pyrus, not Darkus. He wants to be this, but is stuck with his goody-two-shoes Haos counterpart.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: Is surprised when he and Angelo agree on something.
* VitriolicBestBuds: With Angelo due to being two sides of Preyas.
----
!!'''Aquos Elfin'''
[[AC:Debuted In: New Vestroia]]
* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: She and Preyas are nowhere to be seen after the final battle of ''New Vestroia'' and no reason is ever given for their sudden absence, not even after TheBusCameBack in ''Mechtanium Surge''.
* {{Expy}}: Her personality and MagicalGirl-esque design take clear inspiration from Anime/SailorMoon. In addition, her Darkus form after evolving into Minx Elfin appears to be based off Tuxedo Mask.
* MechanicallyUnusualClass: Like Preyas, she's able to willingly change her attribute, with her usuals being either Ventus or Darkus.
* OfficialCouple: With Preyas.
* TheSmurfettePrinciple: Not only is she the only female Bakugan in the main cast of ''New Vestroia'', she is also Marucho's only female partner, period.
* VocalDissonance: Elfin’s first VA made her sound like an old woman, which didn’t work with the “magical girl knock-off” characterisation they were going for. TheOtherDarrin sounded a lot more fitting.
----
!!'''Aquos Akwimos'''
[[AC:Debuted In: Gundalian Invaders]]

* BorrowedCatchphrase: His catchphrase is the one thing his digital clone could say.
* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: {{Averted}}. He’s the only one of Marucho’s partners prior to his final partner, Radizen, whose departure is both shown and explained.
----
!!'''Aquos Trister'''
[[AC:Debuted In: Mechtanium Surge Part 1]]

* BloodKnight: Constantly craves fighting.
* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: Just like Preyas and Elfin before him, no reason is ever given for his sudden absence in the second arc of ''Mechtanium Surge''.
* RememberTheNewGuy: Unlike Marucho’s previous partners, who become his partner ''during'' their respective seasons, Trister is already Marucho’s partner at the very start of ''Mechtanium Surge'' and it isn’t revealed how they met until almost halfway through the arc.
----
!!'''Aquos Radizen'''
[[AC:Debuted In: Mechtanium Surge Part 2]]
* RememberTheNewGuy: Just like Trister, he is already Marucho’s partner at the very start of the second arc of ''Mechtanium Surge''. ''Unlike'' Trister, it is never explained how he and Marucho met.

[[folder:Shun's Bakugan]]
!!'''Ventus Skyress'''
[[AC:Debuted In: Battle Brawlers]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Chiharu Suzuka (JP), Barbara Budd (EN), Héctor Moreno (LA SP)

* BackFromTheDead: [[spoiler: No less than THREE times. She's died against Oberus, Hairadee, and Mechtavius Destroyer.]] However, given that she's based off of a phoenix, that's not surprising. [[spoiler:(Although, she was only brought back the third time because the Brawlers went back in time to SetRightWhatOnceWentWrong.)]]
* BlowYouAway: As is the case with any Ventus Bakugan.
* DeadpanSnarker: She has her moments.
* DubPersonalityChange: Unlike in the English dub where Skyress essentially takes on the role of Shun's surrogate mother, in the original Japanese dub, this is not the case. While still incredibly close to Shun, and is often a voice of wisdom for him, she outright tells him that she cannot be a mother figure to him and instead acts more like a trusted confidant to him.
* TheDreaded: The tone of Marucho's voice indicates that Skyress, or at least the Skyress species, is quite feared among Bakugan and humans alike. Given how powerful she is, this fear is very understandable.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: Her first appearance emphasizes her motherly relationship with Shun, along with being a source of wisdom. Her first battle that we see on screen shows her turning Runo and Marucho's strategy to dust with just one attack, showing her as a very formidable fighter.
* LimitBreak: Her Storm form has the most powerful attack next to Drago.
* ParentalSubstitute: In the English dub, she takes up the role of Shun's mother figure, and frequently serves as a voice of wisdom. When she departs him in New Vestroia, she tells Ingram to take care of "my Shun", indicating that she sees him as a son.
* PassingTheTorch: She tells Ingrham to take of Shun when she informs Shun she will not return to Earth with him.
* PlayingWithFire: She can set herself on fire, and cause tons of damage to adversaries, which is very fitting for a creature resembling a phoenix.
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: It is heavily implied that Skyress is quite old by Bakugan standards, and her decision not to return with Shun is implied to be because she is starting to feel her old age.
* TheSmurfettePrinciple: She is Shun's only female partner and in the Japanese version, [[ShesAManInJapan where Tigrerra is male]], she is also the only female Bakugan in the main cast of Season 1.
* TheStoic: Very little will take her by surprise.
* TragicKeepsake: Shun's mother gave her to him before she passed away and therefore she's really important to him. The rare moments [[NotSoStoic when he cries]] are when he thinks Skyress is dead, only for ber to come BackFromTheDead like a phoenix.
* YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre: She gives this to Shun in his first episode, encouraging him to rejoin Bakugan, and telling him that his grandfather cannot control who he is.
----
!!'''Ventus Ingram'''
[[AC:Debuted In: New Vestroia]]
* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: He is nowhere to be seen after the final battle of ''New Vestroia'' and no reason is ever given for his sudden absence, not even after TheBusCameBack in ''Mechtanium Surge''.
* CrossdressingVoices: He was voiced by a woman [[EarlyInstalmentWeirdness during the first half]] of ''New Vestroia'' in the English dub.
* TheNthDoctor: After evolving into Master Ingram, his voice in the English dub shifts from its feminine-sounding tone to a deeper, more masculine-sounding one.
* ShesAManInJapan: ZigZagged. In the original Japanese dub, Ingram was always portrayed as male. Whereas the English dub portrayed Ingram as female during the first half of ''New Vestroia'' before correcting itself at the start of the second half of the season, portraying him as male from then on, to the point of even [[TheOtherDarrin recasting the role so that Ingram would have a male voice actor]].
----
!!'''Ventus Hawktor'''
[[AC:Debuted In: Gundalian Invaders]]
----
!!'''Ventus Taylean'''
[[AC:Debuted In: Mechtanium Surge Part 1]]
* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: Just like Ingram before him, no reason is ever given for his sudden absence in the second arc of ''Mechtanium Surge''.
* RememberTheNewGuy: Unlike Shun’s previous partners, who become his partner ''during'' their respective seasons, Taylean is already Shun’s partner at the very start of ''Mechtanium Surge'' and, unlike Marucho and Trister, it is never revealed how the two met.
----
!!'''Ventus Jaakor'''
[[AC:Debuted In: Mechtanium Surge Part 2]]
* RememberTheNewGuy: Just like Taylean, he is already Shun’s partner at the very start of the second arc of ''Mechtanium Surge'' and it’s never revealed how they met.
