[-''"I know a fun new game. I'll throw my yo-yos and you try to stay alive."''-]
->'''Species:''' Demon\
'''Powers:''' Serpent Yo-Yos
->'''Voiced by:''' Reiko Kondo (JP), Creator/ErikoMatsui (JP, 100% Maji Battle), Kimberly Grant (EN), Adriana Rodríguez (Latin America, TV series), Creator/PatriziaMottola/ Creator/FedericaValenti (IT)
----
Rinku is a young demon who uses yo-yos to attack. Rinku is childish and playful and often annoys those around him. He controls his yo-yos by channeling his aura through the strings. During the fight for control of the Makai, Rinku is one of the demons that Kurama trains to fight for Yomi, though they eventually all disband to fight individually in the Makai tournament. At the end of the manga, he becomes stricken with Sasuga, a female demon who defeated him in the Makai Tournament, and it is hinted that they are in a relationship together.
----
* BreakTheHaughty: He spends the leadup to the tournament cheerfully gloating about how his team will kill Team Urameshi, and initially plays around with Kuwabara's body like a toy. As he received a lesson in how [[{{Determinator}} frighteningly resilient]] Kuwabara can be, he becomes more and more unnerved, and eventually ''runs away from the stage and hides'' to lick his wounds, despite winning his round.
* CreepyChild: Very creepy, at first. It faded away with time. After befriending Team Urameshi, he stopped the psychotic grins.
* EnfanteTerrible: He started off as a sadistic opponent who enjoyed every bit of the CurbStompBattle he was giving Kuwabara.
* HandyFeet: After some training, he develops the skill to use additional yo-yos by taking off his shoes and wielding them in his toes.
* KillerYoYo: Rinku can control four yoyos in each hand and each one attacks independently of the other and obey his will. After his TrainingFromHell, he can use eight yoyos.
* LikesOlderWomen: Though it's hard to tell his age, he did have a crush on a taller and teenage-looking demon.
* StarterVillain: Of the Dark Tournament arc, he's the first official opponent Team Urameshi faces with Kuwabara taking him on. He does win against him, but by a narrow margin as he underestimated how tough the lug was and had to resort to restraining Kuwabara outside the ring with his yo-yos to get him disqualified via ring-out. Later admitting if the fight had continued, Kuwabara likely would've knocked him out or worse.

[[folder:Chu]]
[[quoteright:195:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/17_5.png]]
[-''"Right! Before we get this thing started I just want to say I'm a great guy and the only thing I suck at is Rock, Paper, Scissors!"-]''
->'''Species:''' Demon\
'''Powers:''' Drunken Fist
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/NorioWakamoto (JP), Creator/KentWilliams (EN), José Sosa (Latin America, TV series), Massimiliano Lotti/ Marcello Cortese (IT)
----
Chu is the strongest fighter and leader of team Jolly Devil Six, but ends up as the team alternate after losing at Jan-ken-pon. Chu specializes in the "Drunken Fist", which fuses the alcohol he drinks with his aura. During the fight for control of the Makai, Chu is one of the demons that Kurama trains to fight for Yomi, though they eventually all disband to fight individually in the Makai tournament. At the end of the manga, he begins training with, and falls for, Natsume, the female demon who defeated him in the Makai tournament.
----
* AccentAdaptation: He's given an Australian accent in the dub.
* TheAce: He's considered the strongest fighter of team Jolly Devil Six.
* AdaptationalNiceGuy: He makes his introduction by taking out two cowardly members of his own team. There's a difference between the manga and the anime, though: in the former, he beheads them, while in the latter, he simply knocks them out offscreen and tosses them away.
* AddictionPowered: The drunker he gets, the stronger he becomes.
* AmazonChaser: He's impressed by Natsume's beauty ''and'' strength.
* BloodKnight: When Yusuke tells him he wants to see if he has more than his drunken fist, he gets very interested
* BoisterousBruiser: He's by far the tallest guy Yusuke hangs out with, he [[TheAlcoholic drinks like a fish]] and only becomes that much stronger when he does it. Helped by [[Creator/NorioWakamoto who voiced him as well]].
* CasanovaWannabe: Shown in his EstablishingCharacterMoment with Koto (the cat commentator). He mellows out a bit later on, mainly directing the unwanted affections toward his IceQueen love interest.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: He shows up tripping over everything, acting dumbly and lazily, and looking like crap. Boy, does he ever turn out to be ''total badass''. It's pointed out soon afterward that he's only the "alternate" because he lost in rock paper scissors.
* DrunkenMaster: Became more dangerous after taking a swig of Ogre Killer. Taken to whole new levels when his most powerful attack actually involves mixing his energy with alcohol to make an energy ball powerful enough that two shots of Yusuke's Spirit Gun couldn't equal it. The first shot weakened the attack and the second shot burst through it, punching a hole in the middle, but not stopping it. Even better, he has a special kind of alcohol that... well... induces vomiting. Once he's emptied his stomach, he gets drunk even faster, which summons more of his demonic energy for him to use. (Tequila?)
* FriendlyEnemy: Right up there with Jin as one the friendlier opponents Yusuke faced though this was probably due to their mutual BloodKnight tendencies in the beginning. During the Three Kings saga later on, however, he and Jin did share hugs and laughs with the latter upon being reunited.
* FrothyMugsOfWater: In the edited version that aired on Toonami, all references to alcohol and drunkenness had to be omitted and thus his Ogre Killer went from being an alcoholic drink to being a [[{{Bowdlerise}} "magical elixir"]].
* HeelFaceTurn: Though let's be fair, it's not like he was '''that''' evil to start with.
* LargeHam: What did you expect of Creator/NorioWakamoto? And surprisingly enough, Kent Williams manages to up the ante with a hammy Australian accent!
* LovableSexManiac: He's a generally good guy, but he gropes Koto while drunk.
* LoveAtFirstPunch: With [[IceQueen Natsume]].
* RankScalesWithAsskicking: Zig-zagged. It seemed Zeru, the proxy leader, was the real threat, but the only reason Chu wasn't on the roster initially is that he lost at RockPaperScissors. He proves his strength soon enough.
* ShoutOut: Chu has a strong physical resemblance to Wez from ''Film/MadMax2TheRoadWarrior''. Funimation's English dub took this allusion further by having Chu voiced with an Australian accent.
* WildCard: He appears without any foreshadowing and gives Yusuke who had [[TookALevelInBadass taken training]] what was intended to be a CurbStompBattle and change it into an equal fight. Even their sponsor lampshades it.
* WorthyOpponent: Views Yusuke as one.

[[quoteright:195:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/18_02.png]]
[-''"I thought I was crazy, Urameshi, but you take the prize!"''-]
->'''Species:''' Demon\
'''Main Power:''' Wind Manipulation
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/KappeiYamaguchi (JP), Creator/JerryJewell (EN), José Sosa (Latin America, TV series), Creator/LucaBottale/ Paolo Sesana (IT)
----
Jin is a demon with mastery over the wind. This grants him the power to fly at great speeds. His signature move is to spin his forearm at high speed, creating a tornado around it, making his punches more powerful, even causing damage when he misses. He enjoys his battles, especially when he has a worthy opponent. He states that when he gets excited about a fight his ears twitch. During the fight for control of the Demon World, Jin is one of the demons that Kurama trains to fight for Yomi, though they disband to fight individually in the Demon World tournament.
----
* AccentAdaptation: His Tohoku dialect is changed to a strong Irish accent in the English dub.
* TheAce: The strongest of Team Masho to the point Yusuke had to expend all of his spirit energy to beat him.
* BlowYouAway: His powers involve the use of wind to the point he can even glide seamlessly and much of his strategem is diving down at the enemy like a hawk snatching his prey.
* BloodKnight: Jin loves to fight just as much as Yusuke.
* CuteLittleFangs: He has fangs like many other demons in the series, but one of them is always visible even when his mouth is closed. This helps to drive home his spirited and energetic personality.
* ExpressiveEars: His PointyEars stick up and start twitching when he gets excited about a fight.
* FriendlyEnemy: ''Very!'' He and Yusuke get along remarkably well.
* FunPersonified: Yusuke can't keep his angry mood for half a minute when holding a conversation with Jin -- which is just what Jin wanted: he hates going into battle with grudges.
* {{Keet}}: This is not helped by the fact that he has the same [[Creator/KappeiYamaguchi Japanese voice actor]] as [[Manga/{{Gravitation}} Ryuichi Sakuma]].
* {{Oireland}}: In the English dub, he speaks with a nearly impenetrable Irish accent. This is meant to be the equivalent of how he speaks in a Tohoku dialect in the original Japanese, since the Tohoku dialect is similarly nearly impenetrable to those who don't speak it.
* PersonalityPowers: A cheerful and carefree demon who can control the wind.
* PeterPanParody: He's a free-spirited young man with the ability to fly, has a dislike of authority figures, has a special emphasis on his ability to fly, and has elf-like ears. His Irish accent in the dub and wind powers helps him resemble an elf/fairy as well. His prize for winning the Dark Tournament was going to be a giant island for crying out loud.
* SpiritedCompetitor: A memorable one, because he also lacks the BloodKnight tendencies of some of the other characters Yusuke meets. He encourages Yusuke to focus on the thrill of fighting someone as powerful as he is, clean and fair -- and he's noticeably even more disgusted by the unfair attempts to rig the fight than Touya was, losing interest in the battle entirely until seeing Yusuke in action.
-->'''Yusuke:''' "Here we go, Jin! I can't say my ears are pointing up, but I'm looking forward to this challenge!"\
'''Jin:''' "That's the spirit! Now let's have some fun!"

->'''Species:''' Demon\
'''Main Power:''' Ice Manipulation
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/YasunoriMatsumoto (JP), Daniel Katzuk (EN), Creator/JoseGilbertoVilchis (Latin America, TV series), Patrizio Prata/ Irene Scalzo (IT)
----
Toya is the ice master of the shinobi of the Spirit World. During the fight for control of the Makai, Toya is one of the demons that Kurama trains to fight for Yomi, though they eventually all disband to fight individually in the Makai tournament.
----
* TheAce: Considered to be the greatest ice master alive.
* ADayInTheLimeLight: He fights one of Raizen's allies in the anime, but while he doesn't win, he puts up enough of a fight to be acknowledged by the demon.
* FriendlyEnemy: In his fight with Kurama.
* AnIcePerson: A demon ninja with mastery over ice. When he went under [[OldMaster Genkai]] for some TrainingFromHell, he became powerful enough to freeze a battlefield.
* IcyBlueEyes: He has very stark blue eyes and is a top tier ice demon, far more skilled than Seiryu.
* LetsFightLikeGentlemen: In the first tournament he openly objects to his team leader's dirty tactics.
* {{Ninja}}: He's a demon ninja and lived his life doing missions, but he would like to one day live in the light, with the implications that he wants a normal life.

[-''"Well, I think the end of the world would have to make a bit of noise."''-]
->'''Species:''' Demon\
'''Main Power:''' Shapeshifting / Banshee Shriek
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/ToshiyukiMorikawa (JP), Creator/ChristopherBevins (EN), José Germán (Spain), Alan Miró (Latin America, TV series), Luca Bottale (IT)
----
Shishiwakamaru is a tiny imp demon who can transform into a fully human appearance. He is a swordsman who seeks to make himself famous. Suzuki gives him the Sword of Trials, a sword hilt that changes into whatever weapon suits the wielder. For Shishi it becomes the Banshee Shriek, a sword that channels the souls of the dead and materializes them to devour his opponent. During the fight for control of the Makai, Shishi is one of the demons that Kurama trains to fight for Yomi, though they eventually all disband to fight individually in the Makai tournament.
----
* AffectionateNickname: Occasionally called "Shishi" or "Shishiwaka" for short. Suzuka tends to use it a lot in the final arc, particularly when Shishiwakamaru's life is briefly in danger during the tournament preliminaries. His fangirls call him "Waka-sama."
* ApatheticCitizens: Is the only one of Kurama's Six Fighters to not express much passion in the Yusuke vs. Yomi debate, instead marking his vote as "undecided". Suzuki is quick to scratch out his vote and change it to "Yusuke".
* BigBadWannabe: For a minute there, it really looked like he'd be the next tough opponent. ...''He wasn't.''
* BreakTheHaughty: On the receiving end of this from Genkai.
* FauxAffablyEvil: He usually acts all suave and polite, but when he gets seriously shocked, he becomes incredibly crass and aggressive.
* HeelFaceTurn: Despite being one of Younger Toguro's supporters during the final match of the Dark Tournament in the manga, he's reformed by the time of the Three Kings Saga.
* ItsAllAboutMe: He sort of acts like a celebrity and is obsessed with fame.
* MoodSwinger: Shishiwakamaru fluctuates in how he portrays himself both inside and outside of battle between a smug warrior and a bloodthirsty berserker. It's downplayed after his defeat, giving a much more low-key attitude.
* MrFanservice: Very much both in-universe fangirls and out.
* {{Samurai}}: Shishiwakamaru, patterned after the legendary hero [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minamoto_no_Yoshitsune Minamoto-no-Yoshitsune, aka Ushiwakamaru]], the samurai that was said to originate the term {{Bishonen}}.
* SleepModeSize: Maybe. When he reappears to train with Kurama, he's in an inexplicable bird-like form small enough to fit on Suzuki's shoulder. This form and its relative power/use compared to his bishie form are neither commented on nor explained.
* SmugSnake: He acts like a superior fighter, but it becomes very clear from his fight with Genkai, that he's not nearly as strong or as skilled as he thinks he is. It's notable out of Yusuke's allies that he doesn't grow out of this state, remaining a jerk to the end.
* SuperScream: His sound's wailing can steal the souls of weaker beings who hear the sound and his attacks are based around sound in general.
* TeamPrimaDonna: To both Team Uraotogi and the Six Fighters.
* TheOnlyOne: As noted by Genkai, Shishiwakamaru is the only true fighter on Team Uraotogi at the time of the Dark Tournament, Genkai herself even notes how Shishiwakamaru far outclasses Onji/Suzuki.
* TookALevelInBadass: With some training from Kurama, he becomes an S class thus far exceeding Genkai who defeated him in a curbstomp battle.
* UnexplainedRecovery: Genkai's comments during her "match" with Suzuki imply that he was intended to have died in their fight, calling him "the ''late'' Shishiwakamaru", but the Three Kings storyline reintroduces him as having survived despite not being shown during any of Suzuki's scenes after the round against Team Uraotogi.
* VillainousBreakdown: Shishiwakamaru goes ''ballistic'' once he realizes Genkai has the upper hand in their fight.

[-''"Better watch yourself, simple human boy. It's against Spirit World law to say my name without putting a 'beautiful' in front."''-]
->'''Species:''' Demon\
'''Main Power:''' Shape Shifting / Space Manipulation
-> '''Voiced by:''' Creator/KazuyukiSogabe (JP), Creator/ShowHayami (JP, [=PS2=] Games), Yuji Kameyama (JP, 100% Maji Battle), Creator/JeremyInman (EN), Luis Tenorio, Alberto Oliviero (IT)
-> '''[Onji] Voiced by:''' Takashi Taniguchi (JP), James Fields (EN), Luis Tenorio (Latin America, TV series), Alberto Oliviero (IT)
----
Introduced as a crafty and mysterious old man, Onji, Suzuki is the true leader of Team Uraotogi.
----
* BeautifulAllAlong: Introduced as a clown that disguised as an old man, Suzuki is initially as goofy looking and garish as his vain personality suggested. Without the makeup, he's actually quite a {{Hunk}}.
* BerserkButton: [[InsistentTerminology Not adding "beautiful" before addressing him by name]] really pisses him off to the point [[DisproportionateRetribution he'll kill you]] even if you didn't know or accidentally let it slip. Poor Koto almost had her head lopped off with a card. The hapless spectator sitting behind her wasn't so fortunate. His other button is declaring you'll never worship him or just disrespecting his aesthetics in general. Case in point; he blew up a whole stand of spectators for this offense. [[TheStoic Kurama]] and [[TheUnfettered Hiei]] were highly disturbed by this. Even after he softens up, he'll still demand you call him "Beautiful Suzuki".
* BoisterousWeakling: Summed up by Genkai that, while he did have plenty of tricks that helped him win fights, [[spoiler:it was all a smokescreen to hide the fact that he had jack squat in terms of genuine strength or firepower. She punctuated the fact by beating the crap out of him.]]
* {{Camp}}: As the "Beautiful Suzuki", he is clearly milking the scenery for all its worth while explaining his plans to become worshipped in the eyes of the demon masses. Once he ditches the clown guise, he still speaks in a somewhat over-the-top fashion (though the blu-ray redub tones this down somewhat).
* CantTakeCriticism: Not calling him "beautiful" would earn you a card between your eyes. Saying you won't worship him? He'll '''obliterate''' you. He also didn't take kindly to Genkai rightfully calling him out on wasting his time on flashy gimmicks instead of genuine fighting prowess.
* CurbStompBattle: After Shishiwakamaru was efficiently disposed of, ''then'' it looked like this guy would be the next tough customer... [[spoiler:He was even weaker.]]
* DisproportionateRetribution: Attempts to slice off Koto's head, instead doing so to a poor sap behind her, when she neglected to call him by his full title of "Beautiful Suzuki". That's nothing compared to how he slaughtered an entire block of the arena for them refusing to worship him after explaining his plans for immortalization.
* EvilOldFolks: Subverted, while he's introduced as an old man, he quickly drops the act to reveal his true form.
* EvilerThanThou: Backed down scared rather than face Toguro at a fraction of his full strength (to clarify, Toguro was only powered at 3%).
* FauxAffablyEvil: As Onji, he spoke in a more soft and refined tone befitting his elderly appearance, but still treated his teammates as disposable and showed no regrets upon their demises. This came to an end after Genkai clocked him.
* TheFightingNarcissist: Such is his vanity that he'd actually ''prefer'' to be made a legend without his face being shown, so those in the future would forever wonder how "the beautiful Suzuki" looked, [[GodhoodSeeker comparing it to the mythical status of how people would try to describe the devil or God]].
* GadgeteerGenius: Suzuki's primary skill is his ability to research, and invent gadgets, potions, and spells to enhance the abilities of his clients. All of Team Uraotogi's tricks and gimmicks were developed by him, and gift items were originally meant for Shishiwakamaru and Ura Urashima down to Kuwabara and Kurama to help them compete against Team Toguro.
* HatedByAll: The demon spectators of the Dark Tournament already found "Onji" unimpressive, but they ''really'' find him annoying after he reveals "The Beautiful Suzuki" for all to see. They soon find out that they can't even root for Suzuki, who's fighting Genkai at that moment after he kills an entire block of the audience [[DisproportionateRetribution for refusing to worship him.]] He subverts this somewhat after he reforms to the point he has a few supporters during the Demon World Tournament, though not nearly as many as Shishi.
* InsistentTerminology: Suzuki demands to be addressed as "the beautiful," and throws a razor-playing card at one of the commentators, decapitating an audience member behind her, when she fails to call him that. Also blasts a portion of the stadium that mocked him for not using this. He still insists on this, even after his HeelFaceTurn.
* ItsAllAboutMe: Initially was about spreading his status as a legendary enigma of beauty to the world. Unlike, Shishiwakamaru, he grew out of it to help Yusuke and the others, becoming a much more friendly individual post-defeat.
* {{Jerkass}}: Definitely in his first appearance when he would kill others for jeering him or not calling him by his full title. He later softens into...
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He insists on being called "Beautiful Suzuki" even after his defeat and retains his poise for the dramatic. Unlike Shishiwakamaru, however, Suzuki genuinely appears to be dedicated to Team Urameshi's cause to the point he, albeit begrudgingly, supplies Kuwabara and Kurama with tools his own teammates used in the semi-finals to aid them in their upcoming battle against Team Toguro. He's also nice enough to warn them that the tools were untested prior to the semi-finals and to expect side effects should they choose to use them.
* JokeCharacter: Both [[ButtMonkey figuratively]] and literally. When his true form is revealed, even the ''demon audience'' is embarrassed. Keep in mind, the people who have spent the entire tournament calling for Team Urameshi's heads on a pike are so turned off by [[spoiler: a flamboyant clown demon]] that they openly say that they have no idea what team to hate ''more''.
-->'''Hiei''': This idiot makes Kuwabara seem smart.\
'''Kurama''': I admit, I'm embarrassed listening to him.
* TookALevelInBadass: Goes from a complete utter joke who had a team that almost completely relied on tools that provided gimmicks rather than genuine battle skills to a mid-tier S Class demon after being trained by Genkai who's able to hold off his own against other demons far more powerful than Toguro.
* TookALevelInKindness: Unlike Shishiwakamaru, who switched to the side of good while maintaining his prima donna attitude, Suzuki seems to be a lot more dedicated to Team Urameshi's cause following his defeat. He starts out by giving Kuwabara and Kurama vital devices to help hone their energy [[EnemyMine for the fight against Team Toguro]], and then is quick to express his support for Yusuke alongside Rinku, Chu, Jin, and Toya when Kurama asks how they feel about Urameshi facing off against Yomi (their boss). He even goes so far as to enthusiastically override Shishiwakamaru's vote of indifference on the matter, forcing the latter to side with Yusuke like the rest of them.
* TheTrickster: He's actually ''very'' powerful and tricky. He just has no Goddamn idea how to properly use that power...
* TrueCompanions: Appears to have this feeling with [[spoiler: Shishiwakamaru, showing genuine fright when he thinks the latter was killed after getting swallowed whole in the preliminary round for the final tournament. The sight literally causes him to freeze up onscreen]]. Averted hard with his other teammates who he shows no attachment to, even after they all died during the semi-finals.
* VillainousHarlequin: [[spoiler: Suzuki, who would be a MonsterClown if he wasn't such a source of comic relief. At least until his HeelFaceTurn.]]
* WeakButSkilled: He has an amazing capacity for spiritual energy -- unfortunately, [[DeconstructedTrope he thought this was enough to make him strong.]] Grows out of this after his HeelFaceTurn.
* WritingAroundTrademarks: Suzuki was renamed Suzuka for the dub, so as to not offend the car company. He was changed back to Suzuki in the Blu-Ray re-dub.
* YoureInsane: Kurama and Hiei call him as such after he murders a bunch of spectators for refusing to worship him as a god, though frankly, he wasn't much better while in a good mood.

[-''"You've made a lot of friends and enemies, Yusuke, and now we're doing one of them a special favor."''-]
->'''Species:''' Human Psychic\
'''Main Power:''' Shadow
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/TakehitoKoyasu (JP), Creator/EthanRains (credied as Iman Nazemzadeh) (EN), Creator/JoseGilbertoVilchis (Latin America, TV series), Lorenzo Scattorin (IT)
----
Asato Kido is the leader of three Psychics who successfully kidnaps Yusuke at the beginning of the ''Chapter Black'' arc; who can be defined by his long eyelashes and bright blonde hair.

His ability, "Shadow", allows him to step on someone's shadow and incapacitate them for as long as the victim's shadow is in his reach.

Along with Yuu Kaito and Yanagisawa, he seeks the aid of Genkai when his powers manifested. It is shown that he also has limited control over his own shadow, using it to spell out his attackers name after he is paralyzed by Doctor. In his final manga appearance, Kido is shown to have been stood up by his date in a cinema while the narration says he is far too forgiving.
----
* AccentAdaptation: He has a Brooklyn accent in the dub.
* CastingAShadow: Initially it appears he only can affect people through his shadow, not affecting the shadow itself, but he laters demonstrates the skill to materialize a shadow arm.
* CouldntFindAPen: Uses his shadow hand to write in his own blood to tell Yusuke that Kamiya is the "Doctor."
* CurbStompBattle: As Genkai [[DeadpanSnarker so kindly puts it]], if Yusuke's fight with Kaito was for real, he would've been deader than dead. Also receives one from Murota and one from Doctor.
* KnightOfCerebus: Two ways. His appearance to Yusuke marks the point when the series takes a ''much'' darker turn, as it kickstarts the Sensui arc, and when Yusuke comes to the realization that there are people with powers capable to outsmart him despite all his experience.
* NiceGuy: He's actually the nicest member in the group, despite [[FaceOfAThug appearing to be a tough thug]].
* PutOnABus: His life was saved by hospital staff after Doctor Kamiya's incident, but due to his injuries being severe, Kaito booked him to stay in the hospital for the rest of the Chapter Black Saga.
* RedemptionDemotion: He was the one who captured Yusuke himself, but is beaten up by Murota and paralyzed by Doctor within two episodes after he becomes a good guy. Justified in both cases, though, as the second could read his mind to anticipate his ability and the third took him by surprise, while the first was taken by surprise himself.
* ShadowPin: Could paralyze people by stepping on their shadows, and managed to hand Yusuke an embarrassing defeat by doing just that. He can also control his own shadow independently of the rest of his body.
* TheWorfEffect: As said above, against Murota and Kamiya.

->'''Species:''' Human Psychic\
'''Main Power:''' Taboo
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/IsseiFutamata (JP), Jakie Cabe (EN), Ikaro (Latin America, TV series), Renato Novara (IT)
----
Yuu Kaito is the second of three Psychics who plotted to kidnap Yusuke at the beginning of the ''Chapter Black'' arc. He is a student, and fellow schoolmate with Kurama (Shuichi) at Meioh Private Academy where he's known to compete alongside Kurama for best grades of their school year. He is a talented linguist, has authored several books and enjoys word puzzles.

His ability is "Taboo" which allows him to create word games that those within his territory must adhere to or their soul will be extracted from their body.

In the manga, his last appearance shows him spending his day off with his girlfriend mostly playing video games and writing.
----
* AlwaysSecondBest: Kaito's grade average is constantly placed second in his school year, a few points shy of Kurama.
* BadassPacifist: Literally. His power completely bans violence of any kind, and the only way to beat him is to outsmart him in word games. Considering just how freaking intelligent the guy is, good luck.
* BadassBookworm: While he's not exactly a fighter, he can keep his wits when 'fighting' others and is very, ''very'' booksmart.
* ComboPlatterPowers: Kaito's power is to make certain actions Taboo, which manifest in two very different ways. Making violence taboo allows him to summon barriers that neutralize violent attacks while making words taboo allows him to steal his enemies's souls.
* DoingResearch: When Kaito's powers first manifested, he was implied to be an avid experimenter. When it came to the test of breaking his Taboo rule and having his own soul sucked from his body, this move prompted his friends, Kido and Yanagisawa, to consult Genkai to help them, and explain their newly-gained super powers.
* DramaPreservingHandicap: In the context of the series, his ability is staggeringly powerful: by banning the usage of violence in his territory, he nullifies the strengths of almost all the cast, which happens to be mostly composed of martial artists and warriors; and through his ability to take their souls via Taboo, he forces them to level down the hamminess and watch out for every spoken word, clearly not a skill transferable from their usual battle smarts. However, this power also affects Kaito himself, which creates a dangerous shortcoming when paired with his InsufferableGenius nature.
* EvilGloating: Constantly gloats throughout his battle of wits, mockingly challenging Kurama to use words that they're about to lose access to, showing off his wide vocabulary and in general lording over the fact that he can speak normally with no effort despite losing more and more of the alphabet. However, this isn't a sign of foolishness as it usually would be -- though Kurama half-heartedly suggests that he could get too excited showing off and make a mistake, they both know that Kaito is far too intelligent to actually mess up. Instead, the gloating itself shows of that he is far too skilled to defeat by his own rules, requiring drastic action.
* ForgottenPhlebotinum: He never uses his power again after joining Team Urameshi, despite that it would have been highly useful against Amanuma and other opponents.
* FourEyesZeroSoul: Seems this way when he first appears, [[spoiler: but proves to be more benevolent.]]
* TheHeavy: A reduced version. Although Kido is the appointed leader of the trio, it's Kaito who puts the longest and toughest fight against the heroes. Justified with Kaito's power manifested in the form of his skill advantage, linguistics, the subject in which Kurama admits he has a lower-hand to.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: His taboo power also applies to him. Also, the plants he intended as mockery were essential to his defeat.
* InsufferableGenius: A villainous one at first, which probably came with the whole [[spoiler:"evil act" business]].
* MeaningfulName: Kaito's name [[Main/{{Pun}} phonetically]] means "Ghost Thief," one can only wonder why he steals the souls of up to three of our main characters. But his kanji is written as "Gentle Sea Vine," revealing his true nature.
* NonActionGuy: Enforced by his ability, which bans all violence in his territory. This is an advantage for him, as he lacks fighting skills himself.
* TheProblemWithPenIsland: If he makes a word taboo, anyone who says the syllables for it in succession loses their soul, regardless of whether it's two words formed together, such as "eac'''h ot'''her" for "hot".
* RealityWarper: His territory bans violence and imposes linguistic taboos which must be cleared.
* RedemptionDemotion: Back when he was an antagonist, he was quite of a threat, to the point he had almost the entire Team Urameshi defeated and it took a healthy effort by Kurama to beat him. However, after he turns into a good guy, he devolves into a mere intellectual consultant for the team and never uses his powers again, even although they might have probably been instrumental to capture the Sensui Seven if not Sensui himself.
* TheRival: Academically, to Kurama.
* ScunthorpeProblem: Actually a part of ''his powers''. His linguistic taboos will bust you for using any banned word regardless of the context. He had banned the word "Hot", and Kuwabara&Botan get busted for saying words like "Eac'''h ot'''her".
* TheSmartGuy: Becomes a secondary one for Team Urameshi.
* TheStoic: He is extremely impassive and rarely panics or shows emotion other than mild amusement. Kurama ultimately defeats him by proving he is NotSoStoic and making him laugh at the worst possible moment, but [[spoiler: even afterward he's the least affected of the human characters by the extraordinary or horrible things around them -- in fact, when Kurama is forced to kill Amanuma, unlike everyone else -- who are clearly bothered -- the only reaction we see from Kaito is the shine from his glasses as he looks on as stony as ever. Only ''Hiei'' remained so cool in the same scene.]]
* StoneWall: Although his ability gives him no means to attack directly the opponent (the latter is only affected through their own actions), it also bans all violence inside, meaning Kaito cannot be conventionally attacked either.
* SecretKeeper: Upon becoming a Human Psychic, he became the one-and-only close friend in Kurama's school circle who knows Kurama's identity as a demon (and whereabouts in the last arc).
* SuperpowerLottery: The power and influence of his ability make him technically one of the strongest psychics in the arc, including the Sensui Seven; it's his own arrogance which brings him down against Kurama.
* VillainBall: Though [[spoiler: the "villain" part is largely an act]], he puts a garden of exotic plants in his arena for no reason other than to mock Kurama's abilities, as the latter cannot use them to attack Kaito thanks to his psychic field. However, despite being otherwise very careful, it seems to slip his mind that, since only ''violence'' isn't allowed in his territory, Kurama still can use those plants to non-violently dismantle his plan.
* WordsCanBreakMyBones: If you say the Taboo word, you lose your soul.

'''Main Power:''' Copy
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/MitsuakiMadono (JP), Creator/TravisWillingham (EN), José Sosa (Latin America, TV series), Paolo De Santis (IT)
----
The third and final of the Psychics that kidnap Yusuke.

His power is "Copy" which allows him to copy the appearance, memories, attributes, abilities, and spirit print of anyone he touches. In his last appearance in the manga, he is too shy to ask an attractive girl out, and it is revealed that ten years later, he marries the girl that tries to cheer him up.
----

* AdaptationalWimp: In the manga, he uses his ability to great effect against Gamemaster by copying Kaito's videogame smarts to score a point. This doesn't happen in the anime, although he could presumably have done it the same.
* AnimeHair: His hairdo is quite spectacular.
* DareToBeBadass: During Yusuke's fight with "Doctor" Kamiya, he [[spoiler: managed to transform himself into a helpless nurse and [[HostageSituation place himself hostage under the knife of Kamiya,]] then burn Kamiya with acid chemicals when the timing was right.]]
* EightiesHair: That's some epic hair, man.
* MasterOfDisguise: As said above, his psychic powers allow him to acquire someone else's looks, memories, skills, etc. after touching him or her.
* PowerCopying:
** He not only copies the physique of his target, but also the target's memories and basic abilities as well. Although whether he can copy ''psychic'' skills like his own is unknown.
** His abilities in ''100% Maji Battle'' confirm he can copy his teammates' skill set, albeit limited to "mimicking the attack" (scratch damage to opponent rather than the full blow damage of the original skill user) but allowed to apply the secondary affects from his copy target's original attack.[[note]]Such as having opponents affected by poison, burns, or blindness, etc.[[/note]]
* RedemptionDemotion: Apparently subverted, as he is the only person from the psychic trio who uses his ability to score a [[DareToBeBadass critical turning point]] since aiding Team Urameshi.
* SatelliteCharacter: Yanagisawa is neither a thug like Kido nor an arrogant nerd like Kaito, so it can be said he's the least distinctive of the trio. Ironically, his power is precisely disguising himself as another person, meaning he has even less screentime as himself.
* SuperpowerLottery: Even although he ends up not doing much with it, his ability is shockingly powerful on paper: he can perform literally undistinguishable impersonations, access to entire lifetimes of memories in seconds, and copy the wits of smarter people.

----
Murota is a human who develops physic powers as a result of the demon plane hole opened by Sensui. He is recruited by Yusuke, Genkai, Kido and Yana when they arrive in Mushiyori City, using his abilities for Team Urameshi to gather information on the Sensui Seven. His power is Tapping, which allows him to read the minds of anyone in a 30 mile radius. [[spoiler: He's eaten by Gourmet after Kuwabara was captured.]]
----
* BoxingBattler: Is a boxer. His mind reading power gives him a distinct advantage in fights, albeit not nearly enough to beat Yusuke.
* TheChewToy: Punched out by Yusuke, shot in the head by Sniper as intimidation, and infected by the Doctor's disease all within the space of three episodes. [[spoiler: He then gets eaten by Gourmet/Elder Toguro.]]
* CombatClairvoyance: Seeks to use his mind reading skills to become a successful professional boxer.
* DareToBeBadass: During Yusuke's fight with Doctor [[spoiler: he reads the Doctor's mind to save Yusuke from his bluff.]]
* TheDragAlong: The heroes basically drag him into helping them kicking and screaming, and by the time they stop he's already too involved to leave.
* HeKnowsTooMuch: He's killed by Gourmet for both his ability and that he knew too much about the plan.
* HeroicBSOD: Has a full-blown ''psychotic breakdown'' after reading [[AxCrazy Sensui's]] [[OmnicidalManiac mind]].
* {{Jerkass}}: Is an obnoxious, lecherous jerk who beats the tar out of one of the heroes (when only a single reaction would do) just to prove that he can and only cares about using his powers to get rich cheating in professional boxing matches. [[NotInThisForYourRevolution He has to be forced to care about saving the world]], and even so it's initially just to protect himself. He does show a bit more heroism during the incident with Doctor, [[spoiler: but he is killed by Gourmet before it can grow into something more.]]
* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler: He is eaten by Gourmet right after Kuwabara was kidnapped]].
* NotWhatISignedUpFor: Says this after reading Sensui's mind and being shot by Sniper.
* {{Telepathy}}: His power.

----
* CantHoldTheirLiquor: Despite her love for drinking, she's a lightweight who gets drunk after a half a glass of beer.
* FormerlyFat: Kuroko was a chubby girl when the Spirit World appointed her as Spirit Detective, and her height shot up (while retaining the same exact weight she had) to unrecognizable heights from all the demon fighting she engaged from work.
* GetOut: Says as much to Yusuke after [[spoiler:his brief fight with Raizen's guards, sensing the slight bloodlust that occurs during it, fearful of his potential to become a demon. After she explains this, Yusuke doesn't object, though this does give him the idea to travel to Demon World for the answers he seeks.]]
* HardDrinkingPartyGirl: Stocked with loads of alcohols in her cabinet, she offers drinks to under-age kids like Yusuke as if it was nothing, ''even her own children!'' The anime [[Main/{{Bowdlerise}} bowdlerised]] her actions by giving Yusuke and her kids a piece of "whisky candy" mixed in with coffee to not offend the MoralGuardians.
* QuittingToGetMarried: Gender-balanced example. Kuroko resigns from Spirit Detective work to live in peace and have a family after years of dangerous investigative works for the Spirit Realm.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Kuroko is the first adult in confronting Yusuke in regards to Yusuke's identity crisis and her fears as a parent. After observing Yusuke's interactions with Hokushin, and judging from her relations between Genkai and Koenma, she concluded she's powerless to aid Yusuke, and suggests to Yusuke [[spoiler: he might be better off in The Demon Realm, since The Spirit Realm sent her a message to kill Yusuke if she ever made contact with him, which she openly refused, yet she noticed a hint of [[BloodKnight demonic blood thirst]] in Yusuke, which may potentially affect the safety of humans, which includes her family, and fearing her children would have to fight against him someday. In meeting Raizen, Yusuke understands the stakes and presents a [[TakeAThirdOption third option]] in the form of a tournament for one singular ruler. Not only does this avoid unnecessary bloodshed for the demons but prevents Yomi's planned takeover of the human realm as he gets knocked out of the tournament following his victory with Yusuke and places a benevolent demon ruler who has no intention of harming any humans.]]

And their mom gladly hangs a "Beware of Dogs" sign at their gateway to warn intruders on how ferocious her kids are.
* BrotherSisterTeam: The siblings have spirit moves that they created together, one of them is a type of KamehameHadouken that the two would [[FinishingMove execute]] together.
* CantHoldTheirLiquor: They're even bigger lightweights than their mother and can get drunk off something ''alcohol flavored.''

* TheDragon: Initially to Raizen. Later becomes Yusuke's right-hand man.
* IAmAHumanitarian: During their initial fight Yusuke states he smells humans on Hokushin's breath.

* UndyingLoyalty: To both Raizen and Yusuke.
* WarriorMonk: He and the various monks who continue to serve Raizen are of the Eastern variety.
* WeakButSkilled: Weak is a relative term, he is still an S-class demon, but he occupies one of the lowest positions in this classification. He is skilled enough to beat Yusuke despite having a power limiter, and he also manages to beat Shishiwakamaru even though his opponent was middle S-class.

Enki placed peace treaties between the Demon Realm, Human Realm, and Spirit Realm, open travel for demons to the Human Realm, asked for the well-behaviors of demons who are permitted to travel to the Human Realm, and require demonic government staff to safely send humans back to the Human Realm when found humans accidentally stumbling themselves into the Demon Realm.
