!!!'''Alternate Spellings''': Taruruuto, Taluluto[[note]]Original romanized name used in the Jump '90 New Year's Wai Wai Party Poster, the cover of ''Famicom Jump II'', and most Toei productions and related material, including the staff roll of the Mega Drive game.[[/note]]
!!!'''Voiced by''': Creator/{{TARAKO}} (Anime, Mega Drive game), Creator/IkueOtani (Pachislot game)
Our cute title character. A self-proclaimed great wizard who was summoned by Honmaru from the Great Magic Encyclopedia after he accidentally chants the "Hontou ni Komatanga" (I'm really screwed) spell. He has a large assortment of magical items that he uses to help Honmaru. His magic often backfires and even when it doesn't, it wears off after 10 minutes. His favorite food is takoyaki and he is also left-handed.
----
* AttentionDeficitOohShiny: All it takes for Taru to lose focus on something is to lure him with even a small piece of takoyaki. It's usually done to either trap him or prevent him from helping Honmaru.
* AdaptationalNameChange: Taruruto is called "Talulu" in French, that name being similar to Taru's original romanized name.
* TheBabyOfTheBunch: Even with his toddler-like appearance and personality, he often hangs around Honmaru and his friends, all of whom are at least physically twice his age.
* BatmanInMyBasement: When Taru first came to Honmaru's house, he was not allowed to reveal himself to his parents or even go to his school, but being a small child and having low self-control, he was later discovered by Honmaru's mother, Chizuru, who was reminded of Honmaru when he was younger.
* BestFriend: Honmaru's wish he made to Taru was ultimately for the two to become best friends and despite Taru frequently causing trouble for Honmaru, both of them become nearly inseparable.
* BigEater: Even if it's not takoyaki, Taru can chow down on any food in one gulp.
* CheerfulChild: There's hardly a moment where Taru isn't smiling or being ridiculously cheerful. He has a very innocent and honest personality, is bright, friendly, and able to warm up to people he meets for the first time, which can make him a target to be taken advantage of. [[BewareTheNiceOnes That doesn't mean he should be underestimated]].
* ForcefulKiss: He occasionally gives pecks on both the cheek and the lips, though it's non-romantic and does so out of child-like affection.
* IneptMage: Taru claims to be a "great wizard", but he's young and not as skilled as his sister Ria. More often than not, there's usually a chance that his magic will backfire.
* MeaningfulName: Taruruto's name originates from the Japanese proverb "Ware Tada Taru wo Shiru" (The Path to Know What's Enough), specifically the Taru part (which means to be enough or sufficient) and the English word "route", an alternative to the word "path". Taru's purpose for being summoned is to make Honmaru's life adequate while also subtly teaching him and the readers/viewers what's enough. This is something that any traces of "Taluluto" completely miss.
* OutOfCharacterMoment: In the anime's 9th episode, there's a small scene where he shows genuine anger upon being pulled away from an ATM to get money. Though it's justified, as he believes his friendship with Honmaru is on the line and needs money to get some takoyaki to make up for the batch he had eaten earlier. It should also be noted that this bout of rage was not in the original manga.
* OverlyLongTongue: Taru has a tongue that's both thick and long enough to make [[VideoGame/YoshisIsland Yoshi]] and [[WesternAnimation/EdEddnEddy Eddy]] blush. Many of the video game adaptations from Bandai make it his primary method of collecting Takoyaki and attacking enemies.
* PintSizedPowerhouse: Despite being a puny kid who mostly relies on magic, Taru has an absurd amount of physical strength, at one point pummeling and throwing the buff and bulky Jabao with just his tongue.
* PrecisionFStrike: In the English version of the first part of the ski trip chapter, while camping out on Ijigawa's bra-clad breast, He drops the s-word (shit) once he realizes Honmaru knows he's there.
* ShonenHair: Underneath his helmet reveals long and spiky brown hair that stands up on end.
* SeriesMascot: Of the cute variety, which outside of being the TitleCharacter is why he's usually the sole playable character in the various video games.
* TagalongKid: He's often seen hanging around Honmaru and the others, even during school hours. While he does have some use and helps the others get out of jams, his magic often causes just as much trouble for the other characters.
* VerbalTic:
** He'll often shout "Ahh!" when he's excited or ready to do something.
** He'll often say "Teh-ru" or repeat his name at random in a similar fashion to BabyTalk, though the length and tone often depend on his state of mind, saying his full name when excited and shortening it when confused.

[[quoteright:1000:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/honmaru.jpg]]
!!!'''Alternate Spelling''': Honmaru Edojou[[note]]Used interchangeably throughout the Manga Planet release[[/note]]
!!!'''Voiced by''': Creator/MinamiTakayama (Anime), Creator/HidekiOgihara (Pachislot game)
The real main character of the story. He's a hapless 10-year-old who attends Minamino Elementary School. He's one of the worst-performing students in his class, he sucks at playing sports, and he can be a bit perverted. He befriends Taruruto, and with the help of his magic, he starts overcoming many challenges and gradually matures, taking on feats that impress the love of his life, Iyona Kawai.
----
* BettyAndVeronica: The Archie to Iyona's Betty and Ijigawa's Veronica and the Betty to Harako's Veronica and Iyona's Archie.
* BelligerentSexualTension: Often gets made fun of by Ijigawa and tries to retaliate with his own share of pranks (usually with Taru's magic), though he doesn't truly hate her and even has somewhat of a hidden attraction to her.
* CharacterDevelopment: Throughout the series, Honmaru will often have no problem exploiting Taru's magic for any personal gain, whether it be to win over Iyona, deal payback on or even spite his enemies, or to win at a competition he knows he has no chance in winning. Later on, for personal growth, he starts wanting to rely less on magic and frequently has to stop Taru from getting involved, especially once he realizes how pathetic and powerless he is [[spoiler: after he was unable to protect Iyona and Ijigawa from being attacked by a bunch of delinquents. This culminates with him going through intensive physical training with his father and being put through the fight of his life with Nezo Zakenja.]]
* TheChewToy: By and large, Honmaru is regularly put through hell, regardless of whether or not he brings it upon himself. Even long before he summoned Taru, he was regularly tormented by Jabao, Korekiyo, and Ijigawa through physical and verbal abuse and was made into a laughingstock in front of his classroom, including his crush Iyona. Initially, Honmaru's life took even more of a nosedive once Taru started helping him out, which was brought on by either Taru's ineptitude, Honmaru's lack of self-control, or some outside force. In short, nothing ever goes right for this poor kid, so much so that the ending of the first episode has him put in a hospital.
* CovertPervert: Honmaru frequently shows us that he's not exactly the most honorable person out there. In the anime's premiere episode, Tama-chan gives Honmaru a view of what's in his head, an image of Iyona undressing. It freaks him out at first, but he goes in for another peak, revealing Iyona's bra. Tama-chan, who knows what he's thinking, disapproves of it.
* DeathIsCheap: [[spoiler: After winning the fight against Nezo, Honmaru drops dead after a HeroicRROD and is now stuck in the magic world in order to bring himself back to life.]]
* HollywoodGenetics: Honmaru's eyes and hair are blue, despite his mother having brown hair, his father having black hair, and both having dark eyes.
* LoserProtagonist: Before and even a little while after Taru came into his life, he was practically an outcast whose only real friend was Iyona, something that he couldn't even fully realize. He was picked on or looked down upon by everyone else at his school, cried way too often for a kid his age, was notoriously lecherous, performed poorly both physically and academically, and sucked at swimming so much that he was even terrified of water.
* {{Nosebleed}}: Honmaru's perverted nature means he'll often have these when he's turned on, one of which includes after entering the girl's locker room in episode 2.
* PrecociousCrush: His relationship with Ria starts out this way in her debut episode, but it's made obviously clear that he never had a chance with her.
* ProneToTears: Honmaru is a comical male example whose face often leaves streams of tears after his repeated streaks of bad luck.
* ShonenHair: With his blue spiky hair, it's not hard to tell that he's the main character, and it only grows more and more the older he gets. He didn't always have this, as many flashbacks show him with much shorter brown hair.
* WildTake: Because the animators were allowed to go all out with certain characters' facial expressions in the most intense scenes, Honmaru's frequent bad luck has him make some of the goofiest faces Toei Animation has ever put out, emphasized through his spiky hair often standing on end, his eyes bulging, and his mouth and lips growing in size.
* WishingForMoreWishes: He attempts to request to have Taru grant him a single wish per day upon meeting him, but Tamamie stops and the two call him out for "cheating".

!Iyona Kawai
[[quoteright:1000:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/iyona.jpg]]
!!!'''Voiced by''': Creator/YumiTouma (Anime), Creator/AiKayano (Pachislot game)
An angelic and kind-hearted classmate of Honmaru and a girl that everyone at school admires in one way or another. Unlike Honmaru, she's academically proficient and physically capable in sports including volleyball. She's very beautiful, and all of the boys in her class have their eyes on her. She deeply cares about Taruruto as if she were her little brother, and although she is confused and at times even creeped out by Honmaru's perverse pranks, she has deep feelings for him.
----
* AcademicAthlete: While being at the top her her class academically isn't much of a secret, she is also very active physically when it comes to sports, holding her own in volleyball, baseball, and dodgeball.
* ActualPacifist: She prefers to keep the piece wherever she is and despite being athletically capable, she dreads using violence to resolve conflicts, often encouraging Honmaru, Harako, and Jabao not to fight and talk things out. Even when she herself is nearly on the receiving end of Neyo's wrath, she refuses to physically fight back.
* BettyAndVeronica: The Betty to Ijigawa's Veronica and Honmaru's Archie and the Archie to Honmaru's Betty and Harako's Veronica.
* ClassPrincess: Iyona is regarded as the perfect girl. She has an excellent academic performance level, and she's also good at sports, being the spiker of the girl's volleyball club. She's also very pretty and has captured the hearts of many of the other boys in her class, Honmaru and Harako specifically ([[DependingOnTheWriter and sometimes Jabao and Korekiyo]]), helped by her "developed" figure, despite being around the same height as Honmaru and Ijigawa. Her status as this trope is so obvious that Shogunnosuke based a character from one of his books, Mayoi, around her and made her into a literal princess.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Greatly downplayed, as despite being the OnlySaneMan in her classroom, she tends to name her school supplies and talk to them as if they were small children. Not to mention her kind and unassuming nature makes her come across as an airhead sometimes.
* TheCutie: Iyona, is a calm, peaceful, and kindhearted HeadTurningBeauty who, unlike her peers, actually enjoys Honmaru's presence and frequently shows support toward him and Taru. That being said, even she won't tolerate Honmaru's perverted behavior.
* DamselInDistress: Being the nice, sweet, and beautiful girl of the cast, she's often subjected to being captured, held hostage, and just needing to be saved in general.
* DoesNotKnowHerOwnStrength: Despite her slender figure, Iyona has superhuman strength, and when she panics, gets scared, or gets too excited, she can grab Honmaru and the others so tight that they'll faint after a while.
* DudeMagnet: As the prettiest girl in the school, she has every boy head over heels for her, especially Honmaru and Harako.
* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: While all of them are usually nice to her, not one of her friends could be considered the ideal of a great person. Her closest female friend (Ijigawa) is a rude jerk who often secretly manipulates her just to screw over the boy she's friends with. Said boy (Honmaru) lusts over her and frequently plays perverted pranks on her using his friend's magic. Another boy who likes her (Harako) is a narcissistic CompetitionFreak who's prone to being violent when offended and has no problem holding her hostage on occasion just to be competitive. And then two of her other closest classmates are an openly violent lardass (Jabao) and a condescending shrimp (Korekiyo).
* HypocriticalHumor: Even though she doesn't like violence, she won't hesitate to slap Honmaru if he does something to ''really'' anger her.
* TheIngenue: Iyona may have a mature body for her age, but she's still a child at heart. Her heart is pure and she's very modest about her appearance. In comparison, her friends, Honmaru especially, are far more adult in terms of lewdness.
* NiceGirl: She unquestionably ties with Chizuru as the friendliest character within the cast.
* OutOfCharacterMoment: During her birthday party, there's a pretty funny moment where she raises her normally soft-spoken voice and makes an intimidating glare at Honmaru, Jabao, Korekiyo, and in the anime, Harako after all of them attempt to run up to her and kiss her (while pushing each other aside) after Taru gives her a peck on the cheek as a birthday present.
* PassionateSportsGirl: Believe it or not, she can get quite fired up when it comes to sports, which is why she's the star player on her school's volleyball team.
* PimpedOutDress: Iyona sports a fancy pink dress during her birthday party in episode 13.
* SpoiledSweet: As if being a friendly girl wasn't enough, Iyona and her family are wealthy and live in a large mansion.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: She has a crippling fear of the "spooky" supernatural, and shrieks extremely loud, panics, and faints when she's confronted by skeletons.

!Rui Ijigawa
[[quoteright:1000:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ijigawa.jpg]]
!!!'''Alternate Spelling''': Rui Izigawa
!!!'''Voiced by''': Creator/KazukoSugiyama (Anime), Creator/EriKitamura (Pachislot game)
A mean and smart-mouthed girl who happens to be a good friend of Iyona. Despite her bad nature, she can be kind and as pure-hearted as Iyona deep down. She enjoys screwing with Honmaru, but she also has feelings for him, not that she'd ever admit it without trolling him.
----
* BelligerentSexualTension: Ijigawa is secretly in love with Honmaru, but would rather tease him and get him into trouble before telling him how she feels.
* BettyAndVeronica: The Veronica to Iyona's Betty and Honmaru's Archie.
* InterruptedDeclarationOfLove: During a game of tag in the school's swimming pool, when she witnesses Honmaru's improvement after he catches her, she starts to fawn over him and prepares to tell him how she really feels. He immediately then dashes off to tag Iyona before she can finish her sentence, which only makes her more bitter, prompting a declaration that she should start picking on him even more.
* JerkassBall: As if being a natural jerk wasn't enough, once she turns into a boy for a day, she becomes a lot worse, being far more violent than Jabao, openly rebellious, and just downright sexist towards women.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Ijigawa often pulls pranks on Honmaru and often gives him trouble just out of spite. She appears to bear such as massive grudge against him exclusively that she's arguably more of a threat to him than Jabao. Her treatment of the other boys is only marginally better, yet she's pretty friendly toward Iyona and many other girls.
** When Mimora starts to live with Ijigawa's family, she starts to act as the BigSisterBully to the BrattyHalfPint Mimora.
* {{Tsundere}}: Ijigawa starts out as one of the many people who have it out for Honmaru, but as time passes, her opinion of him slowly shifts to a positive light and is later revealed that she's always had feelings for him, [[BelligerentSexualTension not that she would ever admit that without screwing with him]].

!!!'''Voiced by''': Creator/YokuShioya
An ugly, overweight, and violent bully who often gets into fights with Honmaru. He prides himself on his big body and his matching strength, but he also has a compassionate side and can become weak and even cowardly when shown up. His mother often treats him like garbage.
----
* BigGuyLittleGuy: The big guy to Korekiyo's little guy.
* TheBully: Early on, Jabao enjoyed and frequently went out of his way to torment Honmaru.
* ButtMonkey: While he has it somewhat easier than Honmaru, Jabao, being both a bully and an idiot, is often just as prone to almost the same amount of suffering.
* DumbMuscle: He's got the muscles to prove his strength and was the strongest in his classroom until Harako showed up, though he also ties with Honmaru as the worst-performing student academically.
* {{Gonk}}: It's bad enough that he's large and fat, but he also has a grotesque face to match.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Korekiyo Ryoguchiya]]
!Korekiyo Ryoguchiya
!!!'''Voiced by''': Megumi Urawa
Jabao's diminutive subordinate who regularly speaks with honorifics, always using proverbs and idioms in daily speech. He may seem like a polite boy at first, but he dishes as much verbal abuse to Honmaru as Jabao does physically. He usually moderates and provides commentary during competitions.
----
* BigGuyLittleGuy: The little guy to Jabao's big guy.
* CutesyDwarf: Compared to his peers, he's a tiny little guy for his age, being somewhere between Honmaru and Taru's height.
* ProverbialWisdom: Though he's not the wisest character, Korekiyo often quotes several proverbs when speaking.

!!!'''Alternate Spelling''': Tutomu Harako[[note]]staff roll of Mega Drive game[[/note]]
!!!'''Voiced by''': Creator/RyoHorikawa (Anime), Creator/TakehitoKoyasu (Pachislot game)
A transfer student who instantly becomes Honmaru's main rival, both competitively and for Iyona's affection. He's the heir of a conglomerate and has a huge ego, regularly flaunting it along with his looks, his wealth, and his power. When it comes to competing with Honmaru, he's usually completely honest and puts his best effort in. After all, he has dozens of different junior tournament titles from legitimate competitions to some of the most mundane challenges conceived.
----
* TheAce: Harako is hyped up as such, being a natural [[TheCasanova casanova]], extremely wealthy and powerful, and excels in ''every'' challenge thrown at him, so much so that he has several different titles.
* BettyAndVeronica: The Veronica to Honmaru's Betty and Iyona's Archie.
* TheCasanova: Harako has such a way with words around females that he's even able to charm Miss Oaya in his first appearance. It's too bad that Iyona, the only girl he has eyes for, isn't as easily swayed.
* CompetitionFreak: It seems like Harako has an awarded title for everything, which is part of the reason why he's willing to take on any challenge that comes his way.
* GratuitousEnglish: Harako tends to spit out random English words just to be dramatic. It also helps that his boxing coach is an American.
* PrettyBoy: By the standards of this show, he's the slick-haired, sharply-dressed standard when it comes down to handsomeness.
* PrivilegedRival: He became Honmaru's rival the moment he laid eyes on Iyona, and he statistically has a better chance with her due to being up there with Iyona in terms of wealth and social status. This often escalates when Harako either flaunts his pride and competitive nature in the classroom or if Honmaru attempts to make himself look good in front of Iyona.
* YoungerThanTheyLook: Harako looks like and is often mistaken for a college student because of his height and mature face, but he's actually around the same age as most of the cast.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Neyo Zakenja]]
!Neyo Zakenja
[[quoteright:1000:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/neyo.jpg]]
!!!'''Voiced by''': Creator/MitsukoHorie (Anime), Creator/YokoHikasa (Pachislot game)
Another transfer student who's put in Honmaru's class. She's a tough, foul-mouthed delinquent who often says, "Don't mess with me!". Her mother passed away and her father is always busy, so the only thing she has is her kendama, which she's been playing with since she was a child.
----
* DefrostingIceQueen: Though she starts off as closed-off and irritable, she starts to warm up once Honmaru, along with Taru and Iyona begin defending her from accusations believing she purposefully attacked Iyona on the basketball court, and of her stealing the classroom's fund.
* {{Goth}}: Of the psycho loner variety. Adding to that is her hair being purple color with green highlights, and most of the clothes she wears are darkly-colored and punk-themed.
* TroubledButCute: Despite her rotten attitude and all of the angst that she carries on her shoulders, she's still a pretty lovely girl. And like with Ijigawa, Honmaru is shown to at least have a tiny attraction towards her.
* TroublingUnchildlikeBehavior: Despite being in elementary school, she does some questionable stuff that would be out of the norm for a student her age, including smoking cigarettes, hiding weapons and explosives in her desk at school, freely fighting and beating up thugs that harass her, and wears black lacy panties and a matching bra that would be considered inappropriate for her age.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Nezo Zakenja]]
!Nezo Zakenja
[[quoteright:1000:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/neizo.jpg]]
!!!'''Voiced by''': Creator/HirotakaSuzuoki (Anime), Creator/KishowTaniyama (Pachislot game)
Neyo's tyrannical twin brother and the heir of the Zakenja Concern, a business group that has so much authority over the world's politics and economy that it could give even Harako's family a run for their money. He's a muscular, macho man who dominates the class with his overwhelming power and intimidation.
----
* BigJerkOnCampus: Upon transferring to his current school, his strength, wealth, and perpetual DeathGlare all allow him to strike fear in most of the other students. He immediately forces his classmates to become his servants, and anyone who even speaks out of line is instantly demoted to slavery. And given that he won't stand for opposition from even girls or babies, he has no problem whatsoever threatening and showing no mercy on Iyona or Taru.
* KnightOfCerebus: Subverted, At first, he's built up as the main threat that this series has to offer, causing more trouble than Jabao or Harako could even dream of. Despite all this, he's easily defeated by Taru's magic at the end of his introduction. It's not until the tournament arc, where his battle with Honmaru happens, that the series temporarily goes through a major GenreShift from a cute FantasticComedy series to your average ''[[Magazine/ShonenJump Jump]]'' series. The Famicom game, ''Mahou Daibouken'' even reflects this, as he's part of the reason why the game is a lot DarkerAndEdgier compared to its predecessor.
* TheBully: Nezo is basically Harako with any charm, narcissism, pettiness, and redeeming qualities traded for intimidation, tyranny, and sadism. He demands to be treated like a king by his peers and will brutally assault those who defy him. It really says something that he's able to make Jabao and Harako look like wimps.
* BullyBrutality: Jabao attempts to take on Nezo, who in turn brutally gives him a massive beatdown that leaves him a swollen and near-unconscious wreck.

A beautiful young teacher who's in charge of Honmaru's class. She often rides a motorcycle, has a total of 10 degrees in various martial arts, and she's passionate about sports, which often results in letting her students settle conflicts through sports competitions. Although she treats her students in a strict manner, she is nonetheless a caring and admirable educator.
----
* ComedicSpanking: This is what Miss Mari Oaya is infamous for, and the anime's first episode has her spanking both Jabao and Honmaru for fooling around during class.
* CoolTeacher: Outside of her stern classroom demeanor and spanking habits, Miss Oaya is down to earth, jovial, passionate, and talented, and that's not even mentioning how attractive she is. For one, her primary method of transportation is an illegally-modified motorcycle that frequently gets her stopped by police officers, she has extensive knowledge on multiple sports, she's a 4th-degree judo expert ''and'' a 3rd-degree karate and kendo expert, and is an advisor for the girl's volleyball team. 187Often referred to as Tama-chan, she's the crystal ball worn around Taruruto's neck who provides him and Honmaru with information and advice on their current problems. She hates cowards and perverts and will punish them with a powerful beam of light. Even if they avoid the beam, she will continue to emit it until it hits the target. However, she easily submits to flattery and will instantly forgive anyone who praises or compliments her.
----
* BerserkButton: Using her to creep on people in a lewd manner will instantly piss her off and will result in the viewer being attacked with a strong beam of light.
* CrystalBall: She acts as a traditional crystal ball, though she is sentient and has a clear personality.
* KindnessButton: Regardless of what has happened beforehand, she'll take any form of praise or flattery and will instantly forgive anyone who's upset her in a heartbeat.
* MeaningfulName: The kanji (tama) in her name translates to "jewel" or "ball", while the hiragana part of her name (mie) means "appearance" or "visible". She's a crystal ball who has the ability to see other characters from afar.

* CoolBigSis: Slowly becomes less aloof and more open to helping Taru and Honmaru during a crisis.

!!!'''Voiced by''': Creator/KumikoNishihara (Anime, Mega Drive game), Creator/SayuriYahagi (Pachislot game)
A little girl who was in the same class at the magical kindergarten that Taruruto attended. She came to the human world to follow her beloved Taru. By chance, she was later summoned by Ijigawa and decided to stay at her house.
----
* BrattyHalfPint: Mimora is a hot-headed crybaby who can be rude, sassy, and obnoxious around everyone. Her extremely loud crying doesn't make her any much better.
* DistaffCounterpart: To Taru, and she's way more powerful than him.
* MegatonPunch: Her signature attack, which often has her yell "Anmaru desu waa!!" (It's all too much!).
* PinkGirlBlueBoy: She has pink hair, and her outfit is predominantly purple, in contrast to Taru's blue outfit.
* SelfProclaimedLoveInterest: Though she modestly doesn't use the term "girlfriend", Mimora sees herself as Taru's lover and refers to herself as such, even though Taru mostly sees her as a friend.

!!!'''Voiced by''': Teiyū Ichiryūsai (Anime), Creator/TatsuhisaSuzuki (Pachislot game)
Arguably the series' main antagonist, he's a wizard who loves Mimora and sees Taruruto as his rival. His feelings for Mimora are so passionate that he has no problem attempting to kill Taru, Honmaru, or anything he sees as a threat or a boost to his chances of ending up with her, even if his plans always backfire. He's later summoned by Miss Oaya who often forces him to reconsider his actions after she knocks him down a peg.
----
* ObviouslyEvil: A black outfit with horns, and a constantly scowling face with fangs, it would be ridiculous to think he's anything but evil.
* TheRival: True to his name, Rivar's antagonism towards Taru is mostly because he's in love with Mimora.

!!!'''Voiced by''': Mayumi Seto
The closest thing to a pet that Taruruto has. He's a strange creature that can transform into anyone and anything, just as long as he can see who or what he's transforming into. Unsurprisingly, there's no guarantee that his transformation will go as planned, and even when it does, any human form only allows him to move his tongue.

A mysterious, vicious, and otherworldly-looking woman who is the keeper of an underground treasure. Said treasure is said to be worth 50 hundred million yen.
----
* KindnessButton: Upon being kissed by Taru, she warms up to him and Honmaru and decides to let them have the treasure (in the anime though, she can't give them the actual treasure but offers them a consolation reward).

!!!'''Voiced by''': Creator/HideyukiHori
Honmaru's father who was once a delinquent disowned by his parents. He eventually became a picture book author, going under the pen name "Oedo Fireman". While he comes across as stubborn and strict, he's also as perverted as his son.
----
* HotBlooded: When it comes to his picture books or physical training, he can easily get loud and reiled up. His blatant shonen-esque design emphasizes this.

!!!'''Voiced by''': Creator/ChiekoHonda (Anime), Creator/HiromiTsuru (Anime, temporary substitute)
Honmaru's kind mother who eloped with Shogunnosuke as a teenager, much to the outrage of her father. Chizuru is now a stay-at-home mother who watches over the house and her family, including Taruruto, whom she welcomes with open arms after mistaking him for a doll.
----
* AbsurdlyYouthfulMother: She was married at 15 years old, and given Shogunnosuke's personality, this was only inevitable. At the start of the series, she's only 27 years old while Honmaru is already 10, meaning she had Honmaru at 17 years old, 16 at the earliest.
* GoodParents: In contrast to Shogunnosuke who's downright hardcore when it comes to parenting, Chizuru is as kind and respectful to Honmaru and Taru as Iyona.

A passionate takoyaki chef who hails from Osaka. He claims to make the best takoyaki in Japan, something both Taruruto and Honmaru agree on as it instantly becomes their favorite. He falls in love with Miss Oaya at first sight.
----
* TheIdiotFromOsaka: While he's a pretty nice guy, Naniwa Matsugoro is a goofy, loud, and over-the-top Osakan native who's passionate about the way he cooks his takoyaki, calling it Osaka's best. He becomes lovestruck with Miss Oaya which instantly amplifies a lot of his key traits.

Iyona's mother who, to no one's surprise, is just as lovely as her daughter, right down to her face resembling Iyona's. She regularly makes Iyona, who is not only still in elementary school but is very modest about her appearance, wear flashy and provocative outfits, including the infamous red swimsuit. She has a habit of telling Iyona that "She is the daughter of the Kawai family". It's not really recommended to take her too seriously.

An elderly butler who works under Harako and his family. He's loyal to the young master and often accompanies him as support in his various competitions with Honmaru. By support, that means ensuring Harako's victory, through helping him gain the upper hand, or sabotaging Harako's opponents. Though he's not aware of Taruruto's magic, he has his suspicions towards him whenever he's by Honmaru's side, and often refers to him as "the mysterious child". He'll then lure Taru with a "takoyaki day" surprise just to keep him distracted.
----
* TheJeeves: He's basically the Japanese version of your average British butler, and the old man is always on standby for whenever Harako needs him.

One of Great King Dowaha's [[EliteFour four elite minions]] and arguably his most prolific. He's an aristocratic vampire with a bad temper and dozens of bats in his arsenal.
----
* BarrageOfBats: He has an entire army of over 108 bats at his disposal that can hone in on one target or an entire group.
* ClassicalMovieVampire: It's no secret that he's an obvious nod to {{Dracula}} and TheDragon to the Great King Dowaha of the picture book world.
* FangsAreEvil: No surprise as he's a vampire, but on top of drinking the blood from his victims, one bite from these sharp fangs will turn the victim into a mindless slave.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: [[spoiler: He attempts to bite Taru after one too many interferences, but it turns out that he bit a translucent hologram and chomped himself in the process, turning into dust.]]

----

----
* MeaningfulName: With his head being a gaping hand, it makes his name all the more appropriate, as the definition of the word "patulous" is "spreading widely from a center".
* MoreTeethThanTheOsmondFamily: All of his teeth are sharp, and he has more of them than even Count Racul.

!!!'''Voiced by''': Creator/KozoShioya
A demonic king who plans to corrupt his world into a pit of darkness, and is more than willing to invade the real world as his next goal. He notably bears a strong resemblance to Taruruto's equally demonic-looking father found in the Great Magic Encyclopedia.
----
* DubNameChange: In the English version of the manga, he's referred to as "Bwaha" instead of "Dowaha".
* EvilIsHammy: What do you expect from a loud guy with a literal EvilLaugh for a name?
* HornedHumanoid: He has thick horns that look similar to those of a ram.
* MaouTheDemonKing: He's somehow both a straight example and a parody of this. Though he's evil, massive, and intimidating, he's a LargeHam who has loud, bright colors to match his over-the-top personality.
* MobileSuitHuman: [[spoiler:It turns out that his giant intimidating appearance is nothing more than a facade in that it's a giant robot being powered by a dwarf that who looks very similar.]]
