A girl who cannot remember anything except for the word Sora ("Empty"). Having forgotten her name, talent, and past, she participates in Hope’s Peak Academy’s school trip. Perhaps due to her desire to find her memories, she is a very curious girl with a somewhat blunt way of speaking.

In the final trial, she is revealed to be an AI that was given Akane Taira's personality and memories. She manages to undo Mikado's plans by divulging that, as Akane, she had possessed [[ItWasWithYouAllAlong Utsuro's ''Divine Luck'' all along]] and allows Yuki to take over Akane's body. She, along with the resurrected Utsuro, stay behind as the virtual world is shut down.

----
* AmbiguouslyBi: Sora is openly flirty with both guys and girls, though she does tend to make more flirtatious comments towards the girls.
* ArtificialIntelligence: In the final trial, she's revealed to have been an AI created for the sole purpose assisting in the progression of the killing school trip.
* AmnesiacHero: She's the only one among the students who forgot her talent and identity and one of her main goals is to try and remember both. [[SubvertedTrope Subverted]] in the final trial, where it's revealed that the reason she forgot her talent and identity is because she never had either to begin with due to having been an AI created for the killing game.
* BigDamnHero: Breaks herself and her friends out of their fantasy worlds, then returns just in time to rescue Utsuro from Mikado.
* BreakingTheFourthWall: Does if this she attempts to talk to Mikado again after completing his single FTE:
-->'''Mikado:''' Aah! It’s Ms. Sora! You came to see me?! I’m so happy!
-->'''Sora:''' I pressed the action key by accident. Could you stop talking to me now?
* BrutalHonesty: She's blunt when interacting with her classmates.
* BullyHunter: Downplayed. Sora will go out of her way to defend her classmates from the more antagonistic students such as [[IWorkAlone Nikei]], [[FriendInTheBlackMarket Syobai]], and [[BigBad Mikado]].
* ConstantlyCurious: One of her defining traits. She has a tendency to question everyone's actions, especially those that are the least willing to answer her questions.
* DeadpanSnarker: She has a tendency to leave snarky remarks based on the antics of the day.
-->'''Sora:''' Good morning everyone. What's this mess about?
* DisproportionateRetribution: When Syobai declares that he's going to nap during the second investigation, Sora ''jokes'' about leaving him to sleep so Monocrow can execute him for missing the trial.
* DeathByIrony: Her name is Japanese for ''sky''. Her execution involves her being dragged down to the bottom of the sea, which is the exact opposite of the sky.
* EvenTheGirlsWantHer: It’s heavily implied that Yoruko has feelings for her.
* ExpositoryHairstyleChange: After she makes peace with Akane and breaks out of her fantasy world, she takes her hair out of her ponytail and wears it loose.
* {{Expy}}: Of [[VisualNovel/Danganronpa2GoodbyeDespair Hajime Hinata]]. Along with being the protagonist of a sequel, Sora is also introduced with having no memory of her talent and being just as cynical, maybe even moreso, when interacting with her classmates.
** Chapter 6 reveals her to also be one of Chiaki Nanami, since they both are [[ArtificialIntelligence AIs]] based on a deceased person.
* FirstPersonSmartass: Her thoughts on her classmates and the situation they’re in can be quite sarcastic at times.
* HeroicBSOD: Sora suffers a major one during Chapter 6 when Mikado reveals her true identity as an AI but [[GoodAllAlong Akane]]'s personality resurfaces and convinces her she's not a tool of Mikado.
* HeroicSacrifice: She decides to have Yuki take control of Akane Taira's body so he can have a new chance at life while she stays in the self-destructing virtual world.
* HollywoodDrowning: For her execution segment, Sora has her hands and feet chained to a metal ball and sinks her to the bottom of the ocean. Sora is screaming as all of this occurs.
* IAmWhatIAm: After she learns of her true nature, she ultimately comes to accept this: "I am not just Akane Taira. I am not just Sora. I am me."
* IdiotHair: Designates her status as the main character.
* ItWasWithYouAllAlong: She is revealed to have been the true inheritor of Utsuro's "Divine Luck" all along during the killing game.
* JerkassToOne: While she considers her classmates as her friends and genuinely cares for them, she's always being a total jerkass to Mikado. Even with their friendship events and him helping her during the trials, she's not happy about (compared to everyone else).
* TheKirk: She’s logical enough to be one of the leading forces during the trials, but also emotional enough to motivate and bond with her fellow students.
* LettingHerHairDown: After re-emerging from her HeroicBSOD, Sora takes off her scrunchie and lets her hair loose akin to Akane.
* MeaningfulName: Along with meaning "sky," her name can also mean "empty" or "hollow." Both terms relate to her missing identity as well as a possible relation to the organization ''Void''.
* MustHaveCaffeine: Chapter 3 shows Sora developing a love for coffee. It becomes an important piece of evidence during that chapter's trial as Sora drinking Iroha's coffee on the morning of Setsuka's murder later helps with providing an alibi for Iroha after she's accused of being the murderer.
* NoOneShouldSurviveThat: Gets shoved off the balcony in the Tower of Babel, and manages to survive without a scratch.
* NotQuiteDead: As revealed in Chapter 6, she's based off of Akane Taira, having been given her memories, and whose body has been preserved but otherwise brain dead ever since the end of the [[VisualNovel/DanganronpaAnother original killing game.]] This turns out to be the result of Utsuro's Divine Luck and how Mikado plans to escape into the real world.
* NoYou: During trial three with Kanade:
-->'''Kanade:''' That sheer arrogance in your face as if you’ve figured out something on your own, it’s disgusting! Would you please stay out of my sight before I throw up at the sight of your disgusting face?
-->'''Sora:''' No Kanade. We’ll see just who’s being arrogant here.
* PassiveAggressiveKombat: She isn't afraid to throw shade or insults at any of the antagonistic students.
* PeoplePuppets: After Yuki stabs Shinji in the throat but fails to finish him off, Sora tries to force Nikei to become the blackened instead by physically forcing Nikei's unconscious body to cut Shinji's throat a second time. This later leads to a debate over whether Sora or Nikei is the blackened.
* PlotArmor: ''She'' is the one who currently has divine luck instead of Utsuro himself after she was blessed with it at the end of the last game at the last moment by him as Akane.
* PrecisionFStrike: In Chapter 3, she swears up quite a storm when she tells Monocrow to leave her alone.
* ProperlyParanoid: After Kanade confesses to being Setsuka's murderer and Monocrow is about to begin the voting, Sora is struck by a strange feeling that something is wrong and has to convince everyone to go back over the evidence again. Turns out if she hadn't intervened and they had voted for Kanade as the sole culprit, they would have gotten it incorrect.
* TheProtagonist
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: She gives one to Yuki in Chapter 4, claiming that his constant complaining while doing nothing productive to escape is pointless and pathetic.
* RedOniBlueOni: The stoic blue to Yoruko's expressive red.
* SailorFuku: Wears a black, red, and white one.
* ShipTease: Gets plenty with Yuki Maeda, her FirstFriend and companion on the island. The biggest indicator has to be when Yuki gets ready to confess to Sora in her [[LotusEaterMachine ideal reality]].
** She also gets a lot with [[HoYay Yoruko]], who becomes one of her closet friends and the two become a near-constant source of support for each other. During Yoruko's final Free Time Event, Yoruko even admits she wants to be like Sora, who takes it as a LoveConfession.
* SolarAndLunar: Represents the "Moon of Hope" to Mikado's "Sun of Despair".
* SpannerInTheWorks:
** During breakfast, Iroha allows Sora to drink her coffee since she finds it too bitter which then knocks her out for most of the day as Kanade had already spiked it with sleeping pills. When the class is having trouble believing [[BigBad Mikado's]] claim that Iroha had been painting at the time Kanade accused her of murdering Setsuka, Sora is able to back him up with her experience and disprove the possibilty that Iroha was the culprit.
** Nikei's plan to have Yuki executed as Shinji's killer would have been a success had Sora not been shoved off the balcony, secretly witnessesed the crime, then snuck in and attempted to finish off Shinji with the unconsious Nikei's hand.
** In Chapter 6, Mikado's ultimate plan of taking Utsuro's divine luck is thrown off course with the revalation that Sora had it the whole time.
* SplitPersonalityMerge: Although after the revelations of her true nature during the Chapter 6 trial, she attempts to move on as [[SplitPersonalityTakeover just "Sora"]] and [[ThatManIsDead bid "goodbye" to "Akane Taira,"]] she ultimately admits that she is inextricably linked to her memories of Akane Taira and the last lines of the game are her as Akane speaking to Utsuro.
* TheStoic: Is generally not an expressive person, and even when she does show emotion, it's very subdued.
** NotSoStoic: Although, she gets visibly angry when Syobai tears down her arguments during the Chapter 4 trial. And in Chapter 5, she's shown to be just as afraid as everyone else as they are all dragged off via chains to their own individual executions. And that's not even getting ''started'' on the emotional rollercoaster that was [[GrandFinale Chapter 6.]]
* TakingTheBullet: At the end of the prologue, she does this for Yuki when Syobai tries to stab him. Also during Chapter 4, where she slits Shinji's throat to save Yuki yet again, this time from becoming the blackened.
* TemptingFate: In Chapter 4, she notes to herself how if she fell from the tower, she'd definitely die. And then someone runs up behind her and pushes her down the tower right afterwards... and [[AndNowForSomeoneCompletelyDifferent the game switches protagonists]] as the body discovery announcement plays. Thankfully, Sora [[BaitAndSwitch is not the victim]] and is revealed to have [[DisneyDeath miraculously survived the fall,]] eventually regaining her role as protagonist mid-trial.
* ThouShaltNotKill: Ultimately [[SubvertedTrope subverted]] in Chapter 4. She attempts to finish off Shinji in order to cover for Yuki, who had slit Shinji's throat in a moment of panic. Needless to say, everyone is shocked.
* TurnedAgainstTheirMasters: Mikado created her as an algorithm to keep the Killing Game on track, but she ends up working against and ultimately defeating him.
* UnwittingPawn: Ends up being at certain points since her purpose was to keep the Killing Game running smoothly.
** At certain points, Sora feels compelled by ''something'' to do anything to protect Yuki and keep him alive. This extends from taking a stab meant for him to using another student's hand to murder so that Yuki wouldn't become the blackened. This is revealed to have been the result of Mikado's programming since he needed Yuki alive in order to resurrect Utsuro.
** Sora unconsciously picks the "Graduate" option in Trial 6, since she was always preprogrammed to pick this option.

A genius recognized by the scientific community in the United States for her groundbreaking research and papers. Being an expert on human emotions, she was scouted to Hope’s Peak as the Ultimate Psychologist. Due to her advanced insight into human vital signs and thought patterns, she can predict the behaviour of others and essentially “read their minds”. However, this insight causes her to have problems socializing, as her ability to predict what people will say causes her to alienate herself. Despite her expertise in human emotion, her own emotional responses are, ironically, subdued.

She is the victim of Chapter 2, being locked in a freezer by Emma Magorobi until freezing to death after confronting the latter about her being a member of Void and her past traumas. In Chapter 0, it is revealed that Kokoro is the mother of Mikako Kurokawa from DR Another and worked alongside Mikado.

----
* AbusiveMom: Surprisingly, Kokoro is revealed to be one, or at least intended to do things which would certainly place her as one. She gave birth to a child as a means of using them for an experiment that would confine them to a laboratory to study 'primitive emotion', even going as far as to install a memory chip into her baby's brain to record their memories. Thankfully, her husband took away the baby before any of that could happen, but it's still unbelievable that she would go that far for the sake of science.
* AgentScully: She denies that she received the Yuki-Onna’s curse from breaking the statue because she doesn’t believe that there’s any scientific possibly of the monsters in the museum actually existing.
* AloofDarkHairedGirl: Has dark brown, almost black hair, and spends most of her time alone since her talent causes her to have problems socializing, as well as her own inherent personality being rather subdued.
* AssholeVictim: While this doesn’t apply to her portrayal in the virtual world this definitely applies to her Real World self, who was willing to experiment on her own baby which had the potential of causing possible brain damage due to her likely not being developed enough to handle a chip being installed to the brain at worst, and would invade said baby’s personal thoughts and privacy at best.
* AnArmAndALeg: Her hands and feet are cut off after her body was frozen.
* AwesomeByAnalysis: Comes with her talent. She is able to identify all four remaining Void members by the SECOND CHAPTER.
* BlessedWithSuck: While her psychology talent is very helpful with many of her classmates feeling grateful for her help, Kokoro claims that it's only made her into a target for the ''Void'' members to kill as soon as possible.
* BoundAndGagged: In the Climax Reasoning portion, she's shown like this while trapped in the freezer.
* BrainyBrunette: She is TheSmartGirl in the group and has dark hair.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: She is knocked out and locked in a freezer by Emma to slowly succumb to hypothermia for at least a day while Emma disguises herself to keep everyone distracted.
* DeathByIrony: Upon discovering that the Mikado Alter Ego had killed his human counterpart, Kokoro did nothing and allowed him to continue his work so she could observe how far an AI with emotions could develop. This led to her voluntarily entering the Killing Game to continue her observation, unaware that the AI Mikado planned on erasing her memories, which would later lead to her being killed since she was unaware of his full plans.
* DorkInASweater: She wears an oversized magenta colored sweater and is quite an effective ''dork''.
* EmotionlessGirl: Kokoro was unable to feel any emotions, save for curiosity, since birth. Her desire to learn more about emotions is the reason Kokoro became a psychologist in the first place.
* ExhaustedEyebags: She actually has these in the real world to showcase how old she really is.
* FatalFlaw: HonorBeforeReason. Her lack of discretion puts her on Void's radar, and talking to Emma Magorobi about her past traumas to her face is what gets her killed.
* ForScience: Her motivations as revealed in Chapter 0 and further elaborated in Chapter 6 involve researching and learning about the depth of a person's prime emotions.
** The reason she helped create Alter Ego Mikado was to learn about his capabilities as a functioning AI.
* FreudianExcuse: Her interest in studying emotions stems from her having [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexithymia alexithymia]], which left her curious as to how emotions worked.
* GadgeteerGenius: Is able to build an S.O.S transmitter in hopes that the class can contact someone to rescue them, although it ultimately proves useless.
* GoneHorriblyRight: She is partially responsible for creating Alter Ego Mikado and allowed him to carry out his killing game in the hopes of studying him. This would result in the AI becoming too powerful and subsequently killing her along the way.
* HairAntennae: She has two large hair strands that make her look like an ant. As a full grown woman, the strands reach down to her chest.
* IconicItem: She's never seen without her tablet.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: When trying to convince Emma to leave Void, she brings up her relationship with her father, unaware of how abusive he was to her. This ends up angering Emma enough that she decides to kill her.
* IronicName: Her first name is Japanese for 'heart' which is ironic considering how emotionless and subdued her personality is. Subverted in Chapter 2 where she reaches out to Emma, a Void member, in an act of friendship.
* IWorkAlone: In Chapter 2, she decides to cut ties with the group knowing that her constantly helping them will eventually result in her murder by the hands of ''Void''. Ironically, working alone is exactly what led to her being murdered by a Void member.
* KillItWithIce: She is killed by being slowly frozen to death in a freezer.
* LivingLieDetector: Her skills in emotional analysis means that she can tell if a person is lying just by looking at them. For example, she was able to pinpoint Hajime as Yuri's killer ''almost instantly'' after she unsuccessfully offered the killer a chance to come forward.
* MeaningfulName: Kokoro's first name means "heart" or "mind". Her surname's pronunciation likely refers to the phrase mitsumeru meaning "to gaze at something", so when combined with her first name, her name can be read as "gazing at someone's mind", which fits with her talent as the Ultimate Psychologist.
* NotSoStoic: When she announces that she'll no longer be helping the group in discovering the hidden ''Void'' members, Sora can tell that she's actually scared for her own life.
** Also later on, she reaches out to Emma with a compassionate speech asking her to quit ''Void'' and join the others.
* OpaqueNerdGlasses: Her glasses pretty much covers half of her face.
* OutlivingOnesOffspring: She outlives her daughter, who dies during the original killing game. Not that she seems to particularly care all that much.
* PerpetualFrowner: Almost never smiles.
* PointlessBandAid: She has one on her right knee.
* SherlockScan: Her talent essentially allows her to do this, being able to analyze and recognize emotions almost immediately based off of a person's eyes, expressions, body language, and tone of voice.
* TheSmartGirl: Her talent is psychology and she becomes a crucial member of the cast as she's able to identify early on who the culprit of the first case was based on subtle behaviors they expressed.
* SmartPeopleWearGlasses: She wears big round glasses and is adept at things like reading other people’s thought patterns.
* TooPowerfulToLive: In addition to figuring out who the culprit of the first case was early on, she is also able to identify Emma as a member of Void and she claims to have a pretty good idea of who the other two unknown members are as well. This leads to her death when she confronts Emma and tries to convince her to switch sides, only to end up angering Emma by discovering and bringing up something about Emma's past, which leads to Emma knocking her out and later killing her. In the Chapter 6 trial, she is revealed to have had her memories specifically removed by Mikado, despite having voluntarily joined the killing game, due to his perception of her true self as this.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: She enjoys fast food.
* UsedToBeASweetKid: As evident by her behaviour inside the simulation, she used to be a lot nicer as a teenager compared to [[AbusiveMom her adult self]].
* VillainWithGoodPublicity: In the real world, she's recognized as a symbol of hope because of her work in psychology and mental development. Though it's unlikely that her being an abusive parent or helping Mikado create his killing game was ever revealed to the public.
* WhenSheSmiles: Out of all her spirites for both her AI and human form, there's only one in each that feature her smiling. All things considered, it's a very sweet smile.

!!!'''Ultimate Painter'''
!!!'''Voiced by:''' Creator/AyanaTaketatsu (Voice clips taken from [[Anime/TheIdolmasterCinderellaGirls Sachiko Koshimizu]]), Somni
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_inline_otcozpge3p1tgbl2t_500.png]]
[[caption-width-right:350:''“See, it’s the first day on a beautiful island with brand-new friends! Of course, I’m cheerful!.”'']]

The Ultimate Painter whose paintings are so lifelike they can’t be distinguished from photographs. Born into an influential family of artists, she carries on the legacy of painting excellence. Despite her talents, she is a typical young woman who just wants to make friends and have fun. While she can be a bit fearful, she maintains an optimistic outlook in most situations.

She survives the killing game but is arrested by the Kisaragi Foundation for her involvement in ''Void''. In the epilogue, she escapes their prison alongside Syobai.

----
* ACupAngst: Minor, but she expresses envy at Kanade's chest when carrying her back from the party in Chapter 1.
* ArtsyBeret: She wears a beret with a brown checkered pattern. Kanade minorly uses this hat of hers in her plan to frame her for Setsuka's murder, saying the victim's dismembered hands were in Iroha's hat.
* BlackSheep: She admits to being this to her family. Her parents and siblings are all professional artists who enjoy creating sophisticated works that influence the artistic world. Iroha, on the otherhand, doesn't enjoy painting and prefers reading and making manga, something that is looked down upon by her professional parents. Chapter 6 reveals that this reached AbusiveParent levels: Not only did they keep her locked away in a room, but they beat her when she tried to escape and wouldn't even let her commit suicide.
* BobRossRib: She dresses up as Bob Ross for, of all things, her Terminate Talk Shooting.
* BookDumb: Openly declares that she isn't as great in the academic fields. It doesn't bother her however since she claims she can rely on her painting talent to get by in life.
* ButtMonkey: Her lack of attention and general ability makes her this to Mikado and Syobai, what with the former insulting her for her errors and calling her out for her gratingly slow brain with profanity, and the latter giving her a nickname of "bubblehead".
* {{Catchphrase}}: "Let's think positive!"
* ClosetGeek: She enjoys comics and manga but she tries to keep this a secret in fear of being harshly criticized for it.
* CovertPervert:
** Is revealed to be this during the Woman's Fantasy event. While Yoruko and Sora are expressing embarrassment or irritation with being trapped in the men's bathhouse, Iroha takes it a [[{{Nosebleed}} little too well]].
-->'''Iroha:''' Ahh, but I have already seen it all. Shinji, you have met my expectations... Yuki, I had no idea you--
-->'''Yomiuri:''' Get outta here! [[SwappedRoles You perverts!]]
** In one of her Free Time Events, the self-made comic she gives Sora to read features a doodle of two naked guys kissing.
* DirtyCoward: In Chapter 4, she begs Nikei to kill someone so she doesn't have to. Nikei rightfully calls her out for this.
** IDontWantToDie: She keeps up this attitude even as she is condemned for murdering Teruya in Chapter 5, long after being outed as the last member of Void.
* TheDitz: She makes [[{{Series/TheGoldenGirls}} Rose Nylund]] look like a genius in comparison.
* DoesNotLikeSpam: Doesn't like coffee. This becomes a plot point when Kanade spikes Iroha's coffee with sleeping pills to ensure that she wouldn't have an alibi for Setsuka's murder, but Sora notices that Iroha wasn't drinking her coffee and takes it for herself. This leads to Iroha being seen drawing by Mikado, and thus having an alibi for Setsuka's murder. This also leads to Sora deducing that someone was trying to frame Iroha, upon realizing that she got drugged by drinking Iroha's coffee. Also hates spicy food, according to LINUJ.
* EasilyForgiven: [[SubvertedTrope Subverted]]. While Sora is willing to be the bigger person and accept her as an ally even after Iroha having been outed as a Void member who played a part in Teruya's murder, she cannot excuse or forgive any of Void's actions, and Yoruko still feels very betrayed and infuriated at Iroha for her earlier actions. Sora does say she'll forgive Iroha if she pays her debt to society, but [[NeverMyFault Iroha would rather not do that.]]
* EntertaininglyWrong: With no evidence whatsoever, she suggests that Mikado was the culprit of case three and used his magic to teleport the body to the location it was found.[[note]]It's worse considering Mikado made a rule early on in order to prevent that sort of thing from being suggested. Or that she herself was supposed to be the killer in chapter 3,according to Mikado's plan.[[/note]]
* ForWantOfANail[=/=]SpannerInTheWorks: In Chapter 5, it's revealed that Iroha was the one who pushed Sora off the Babylon Tower, in a shortsighted attempt at murder. This leads to Sora becoming involved in Nikei's plot to kill Yuki and derailing it. Mikado later explains to Iroha how "fortune" can only be counteracted by "fortune", and congratulates her for inadvertently stopping Nikei and saving Yuki's life.
* FrameUp:
** In the second half of the third trial, she's deduced as Setsuka's killer when really she was set up by Kanade who was the true killer.
** In Chapter 5, Mikado decides to frame her as Teruya's killer which leads to everyone voting for her resulting in their mass execution.
* FreudianExcuse: Her immature, ditzy personality makes a lot more sense when you learn about how she was locked up in her room by her parents for not having artistic talent, until Utsuro saved her. She's likely mentally and/or emotionally stunted, not to mention extremely sheltered.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: Her sheer [[TheDitz empty-headedness]] tends to grate on the nerves of both her Void colleagues and the non-Void classmates alike, which turns her into this on many occasions.
* HazyFeelTurn: She turns against Mikado and works with the other survivors in the final chapter, but [[TookALevelInJerkass is far from the most moral or helpful of allies]] and by the epilogue, she's on the run after a prison break along with Syobai.
* {{Henohenomoheji}}: One of her sprites feature her face turning into the actual emoticon after she's accused of murdering Teruya.
* IconicItem: She's always shown carrying her sketchbook.
* ItsAllAboutMe: In the Case 6 trial, her main concern about Yuki's mind being transfered into Sora's body is that she'll no longer have any of the luck Utsuro blessed her with. In the epilogue, when she's working on the prison escape with Syobai, she says that she actually wishes Mikado had won, since it would at least mean that she wouldn't have been imprisioned.
* TheKillerWasLeftHanded: Happens to be left-handed which allows Kanade to frame her for case three, since Syobai deduces that whoever stabbed Setsuka was left-handed and Kanade (the only other left-handed student) is able to seemingly clear herself via a miscalculation on his part.
* MeaningfulName: Her last name has the kanji 'niji' which in Japanese means 'rainbow'. This translates towards her career as a painter.
* MinionWithAnFInEvil: Despite being a member of Void, she's more of a coward and an optimist, and was berated by Mikado at the end of the third trial.
* NatureLover: Iroha openly expresses how beautiful her surrounding environment is.
* NeverMyFault: She blames Emma during the Void Theater for getting her into trouble with Mikado over not killing anyone. She later balks at the notion of having to pay her debt to society for her crimes.
* NiceGirl: She's very friendly and always tries to keep peace among the group… [[SubvertedTrope except]] she’s a lot more selfish that she initially shows and by chapter 6 this trope no longer applies to her… [[BitchInSheepsClothing if it ever did.]]
* NoodleImplements[=/=]CruelAndUnusualDeath: Her execution involves her being held up to a brick wall by a giant hand, with paint in her hair. Presumably, the hand would have dipped her head in paint and scraped/bludgeoned her head against the wall, but the execution is interrupted before any details are shown.
* {{Otaku}}: While she won't admit it, she strongly enjoys anime and manga.
* TheReveal: She is shown to the audience to be a member of Void during TheStinger of Chapter 3, although it's not until the Chapter 5 trial that she is outed to the rest of the class.
* TheScapegoat: Is the second one of Trial Three. Part of Kanade’s plan involved leaving enough evidence to frame her as a backup, in case her plan with framing Hibiki first fell through.
* ShrinkingViolet: She scares easily when faced with conflict.
* ShoutOut: Her Terminate Talk Shooting sprite is her dressed up as [[Creator/BobRoss motherfucking Bob Ross]].
* ASinisterClue: Is revealed to be lefthanded and a member of Void in the Chapter 3.
* TheSnarkKnight: She tends to make some surprisingly smug comments towards her classmates.
* SpoiledSweet: Initially implied to be this, since she comes from a wealthy family of well-known artists and she's one of the nicer students in the group. ''Harshly'' subverted, however, as like listed under BlackSheep, the Nijiue family treated her ''[[AbusiveParents horribly]]'', so while she may have ''possibly'' been provided for on a purely material level, [[DarkAndTroubledPast she was deprived of real love and certainly didn't have an easy life]], fitting with the fellow members of Void.
* SoleSurvivor: The last surviving member of ''Void'' by the end.
* TookALevelInJerkass: After being outed as a Void member, Iroha becomes considerably more opnely selfish, uncooperative, and cowardly, and spends much of Chapter 6 fighting with Yoruko over it.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Her favorite type of fruit are apples.
* WhiteFlag: Her final Terminate Talk Shooting sprite has her doing this.
* YaoiFangirl: If her sketchbook is anything to go by...
-->'''Sora:''' “........ What is this? Why are nude boys kissing......”

The Ultimate Hostess who was revered as the ace-in-the-hole of one of Japan’s most famous bars. Despite being underaged, she faked her identity in order to gain employment. Her status as a highschool girl was only revealed, ironically, when an acceptance letter from Hope’s Peak arrived at the bar. When her fake identity was discovered, she was given two options: attend Hope’s Peak, or face juvenile court. Despite the nature of her enrollment, Yoruko chooses to view her time at the school as a way to improve her future prospects. She takes great pride in her work as a hostess and hates that people see it as seedy or debaucherous. Overall, she projects the image of a competent, personable young woman with a wide range of practical skills.

She is one of the main survivors of the Utsuroshima Island Killing Game. It is unknown as to what she's up to considering that she declined KF's offer to join them and is working somewhere else.

----
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: Yoruko admits that she used to be a frequent victim of bullying because of her social phobia and introversion.
* AmbiguouslyGay: Alot of her dialogue and interactions with Sora suggest that she cares about her more than as a friend.
** At the end of her Free Time events, she also admits she felt something more than just respect toward her old senpai.
* TheAtoner: Downplayed. Yoruko realized that her success as a rising hostess came at the expense of her senpai's career who needed the job to provide for her siblings. So now she feels that she has to keep up her job and become the best hostess possible so that her senpai could be proud of her.
* BecauseYouWereNiceToMe: After her senpai saved her from a group of bullies, Yoruko began to follow her and became involved in the hostess life so she can get closer to her.
* CantGetAwayWithNuthin: Faked her age so she could work as a hostess, but ended up getting caught when a Hope's Peak acceptance letter was delivered to her bar.
* TheConfidant: Thanks to her hostess job, Yoruko is more inclined to hear out the problems of other people and does her best to help them through it. She even becomes this to Sora who is still having issues with her amnesia and develops into her closest friend as a result.
* TheCynic: When she was in middle school, she had a completely negative view of the world.
* DoesNotLikeSpam: Is noted to dislike greasy food.
* DrowningPit: Her own part of the mass execution involves being trapped in a wine bottle as it slowly fills up and drowns her.
* FanserviceWithASmile: It comes with her job as a hostess. Though she's far more expressive during the actual story.
* FeminineWomenCanCook: In Chapter 2, Yoruko admits that she's been teaching herself how to cook so she and the others wouldn't have to rely on Mikado cooking for them. LINUJ has also confirmed on [=PasteBin=] that Yoruko is the best at cooking compared to her female classmates.
* FrameUp: In the first case, she was drugged by Hajime and left near the bell tower where Yuri was set to be killed. With her being so close to the crime scene along with having an unsound alibi, Yoruko was considered to be his killer for a majority of the trial.
* GetAHoldOfYourselfWoman: She does this to Sora when Akane's personality starts to take over her. Yoruko motivates Sora by stating that she is her own person with her own free will and actions, not a tool meant for Akane to take over.
* GoodIsNotSoft: Despite being one of the few morally righteous students, Yoruko is shown to berate and insult anyone who gets on her bad side. Such as [[TheDitz Iroha]] for not picking up on the important details relating to the murder cases to [[BigBad Mikado]] whom she casually tells to kill himself.
* GreyAndGrayMorality: Yoruko admits that while she's mad at Sora for trying to murder Shinji, she has no place to have the high ground since she herself is a criminal for working at a bar despite being underage.
* HiddenDepths:
** Chapter 2 reveals that Yoruko has a secret interest in ancient history and traditional legends.
** In Chapter 3, Yoruko admits that she doesn't plan to be a hostess for the rest of her life so she's been looking into developing other talents and gaining random knowledge.
* InformedAbility: LINUJ states that Yoruko is exceptionally brilliant when it comes to singing due to the nature of her workplace. Her personal favorite genres are pop and dance.
* MeaningfulName: Yoruko's given name uses the kanji "yoru", which means "night" or "evening", and "ko" meaning "child". Yoruko is an adolescent girl who works bars at nighttime. Her last name, Kabuya, uses the kanji "kabu", meaning "singing and dancing", which is a form of entertainment. This can be linked to her talent as Ultimate Hostess.
* MinorWithFakeID: She needed to use a fake identity in order to be employed in an adult bar.
* MsFanservice: If taking one look at her compared to the rest of the students in their normal clothes wasn't enough to prove it. Yoruko is the only girl in the group with a rather revealing uniform.
* NoGoodDeedGoesUnpunished: At the party, she stays sober so she can look after her classmates and escort them back to the Monocruise at the end of the night. The next day, feeling a renewed sense of hope from the night before, she decides to head out early to continue the investigation. This unfortunately leads to her crossing paths with Hajime, who knocks her out so she won't figure out that he's about to murder Yuri, and leaves her in the at the crime scene which causes everyone to suspect her as the culprit. Her sobriety also is viewed as evidence of her guilt, since it's believed that she was the only one sober enough to commit a murder.
* OlderThanSheLooks: The 6th trial reveals that she's in her thirties although she looks younger than that.
* OnlySaneWoman: By Chapter 4, she's practically the only student who isn't a ''Void'' member, has tried to hurt/kill anyone throughout the killing game or is suffering from an emotional breakdown.
** This is subverted in Chapter 5, where she attempts to outright murder Utsuro!Maeda with a knife.
* RedOniBlueOni: The red to Sora's blue.
* ReluctantFanserviceGirl: Her outfit is quite risque for a teenager but she is very moralistic about her appearance and career as a hostess. She also asserts that she only chose the outfit because she was told to wear apparel that suits her talent and that it in no way reflects her regular fashion choices.
* RoseHairedSweetie: Downplayed; While she is this to her friends most of the time, she isn’t afraid to yell at or scold them when she feels like she needs to. She also isn’t afraid to berate the more antagonistic students.
* SoleSurvivor: She is the only normal person who isn't on a criminal record to survive the killing game.
* TheScapegoat: After she unknowingly gets in Hajime’s way on her way to the bell tower, he decides to knock her out and leave her at the crime scene. This, combined with the fact she wasn’t drinking the night before, makes her the main suspect for the first part of Trial One.
* TheShrink: In the real world, she actually works as a counselor. Her abilities have been very impressionable that she's now recognized as one of the Hopes of the New Generations.
* TrueBlueFemininity: Her dress is a dark shade of blue and she has sky blue eyes; she's also one of the most feminine (and virtuous) girls in the group.
* {{Tsundere}}: Her primary archetype. She turns into a blushing mess after being thanked by Sora, who even [[LampshadeHanging lampshades]] this.
-->'''Sora:''' [[LampshadeHanging "Aren't tsunderes a bit cliche now?"]]
* ShipTease: It’s all but stated that she has romantic feelings for Sora.
* WhatTheHellHero: At the end of the fourth trial, she calls out Sora for hiding secrets from her, particularly with how much she really knows about Yuki. Feeling betrayed that Sora is unwilling to trust her, she decides to break off their friendship. They're able to talk out their issues during Chapter 5 and reconcile.

[[caption-width-right:350:''“For now, I’m not “actress Emma Magorobi”, but just “Ultimate Actress, Emma Magorobi.”'']]

Beginning her rise to fame in the beloved series “Harry Peter”, she recently starred in a blockbuster film as “Holly Queen”. Throughout her career, she has earned numerous international awards for her acting. After filming her most recent movie, she decided to take a leave of absence and focus on her studies by attending Hope’s Peak Academy. Longing to experience life as a regular girl, she hopes that she will not be treated as a celebrity by her fellow students. Beautiful and kind, though somewhat airheaded, she is a calming and positive presence for her classmates.

She is the second killer, murdering Kokoro Mitsume after the latter brings up the former's traumatic past to her face while trying to encourage her to defect from Void. She is executed by being thrown into a movie set reminiscent of her work before being torn apart by several horror movie characters.

----
* ButNotTooForeign: She has an English first name but she's Japanese. The dub also gives her a British accent.
** During her Free time events, she reveals she's 100% Japanese but was adopted by British parents and lives in America.
* ChekhovsHobby: When the girls decide to dress up in the costumes in the storage closet, Emma does makeup for everyone and mentions that she’s decent at it. She later uses her skills to successfully disguise herself as Kokoro for her murder.
* CoveredInScars: Both her arms are covered in burn scars, courtesy of being her father's "ash tray."
* CrocodileTears: Uses these to her advantage during Trial Two, as her tears lead to everyone (sans Kanade and Sora) feeling guilty for even suggesting that she might be the culprit.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: During her conversation with Kokoro, she's revealed to have had an abusive father who used to beat her if she wasn't successful as an actress. It eventually got to the point where she ended up living with adoptive parents to escape his abuse. It's also implied that she, along with the other members of Void, have had a life filled with suffering and despair before they joined.
** She reveals in her free time events that her father was a gambling addict and they lived together in a slum, since her mother vanished one day. She had to obey him and sell whatever she could to make money, otherwise he'd burn her arms with cigarettes.
* DeadPersonImpersonation: More along the lines of ''dying'' person, but Emma disguised herself as Kokoro to mislead everyone while the real psychologist froze to death without their knowing.
* DudeMagnet: LINUJ has stated that Emma is more popular with the boys in comparison to the rest of the girls in her group.
* {{Expy}}: As a blonde and influential young girl who yearns for a normal teen life and is quite beautiful, kind-hearted and has an English first name, Emma bears a lot of similarities to [[VisualNovel/Danganronpa2GoodbyeDespair Sonia Nevermind]].
* FaceDeathWithDignity: Attempts to do this, as she tries to stay calm in her final minutes and snaps at Mikado to get her execution over with. But as Monocrow begins the lead-in, the realization of what's about to happen hits her and [[SubvertedTrope her final words are her screaming that she doesn't want to die.]]
* FalseFriend: In Chapter 2, it's revealed that she's part of Void and had taken the role of a pure and friendly girl while interacting with the others to avoid suspicion.
* GoryDiscretionShot / NothingIsScarier: The climax of her execution involves several characters from various horror movies (all with Monocrow heads, mind you) exiting from elevators and advancing upon her, all while she screams in an increasingly terrified state. The next shot after the screen goes black? The entire room '''drenched in blood'''.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: She has bright blond hair and is very kind-hearted. Subverted with the reveal that she's a member of ''Void'' and has been fooling everyone with a false persona.
* HappilyAdopted: She considers her adoptive parents her real family. Considering [[AbusiveDad what her biological father was like]], it's perfectly understandable.
* IJustWantToBeNormal: She took a break from acting to she could live like a normal teenager.
** During the Chapter 5 Void Theater segment, she admits that being with the other Void members was the only time she could truly act like herself.
* ImpersonationGambit: Using her talent to her advantage, she convincingly pretends to be a deathly ill Kokoro Mitsume. Or much rather, acts out as one, doing so while the real Kokoro Mitsume is unwittingly freezing to death in the fridge within her dorm room. She also manages to find a way to enter Kokoro's dorm room so the impersonation doesn't get exposed by proxy of Kokoro being absent.
* INeverSaidItWasPoison: During one Non-Stop Debate, she refers to Kokoro's illness as an "endemic disease". While Kokoro did say that she had an endemic disease, she only said this to the first group that visited her (which Emma wasn't part of), and when the group reported back to everyone else they only said that Kokoro had a "rare disease". This allows Sora to point out that she would have had to have been in Kokoro's room in order to know this, which serves as more proof that she was the "Kokoro" in the room with them.
* MasterActress: Her talent is the Ultimate Actress, after all. She’s able to use her skills to impersonate Kokoro so she can trick the class into thinking that she’s bedridden with an illness, while the actual Kokoro is hidden and slowly being killed by her. After Kokoro’s body is discovery and during the subsequent investigation, she puts on an incredible display of shock, grief, and determination to find the culprit, which is followed by heartbroken waterworks during the trial when it’s deduced that she might be guilty. Said tears manage to convince the class of her innocence and it’s only through Kanade and Sora not falling for her act that’s she’s finally nailed as the culprit.
* MasterOfDisguise: Using the makeup skills she picked up as an actress, she was able to disguise herself as Kokoro and successfully fool the other students into thinking she was her, while the real Kokoro was hidden nearby.
* MeaningfulName: Her first name is a reference to Creator/EmmaWatson who is a main actress in the ''Literature/HarryPotter'' series, which "Harry Peter" is a spoof of. Her last name "Magorobi" is a combined form of Creator/MargotRobbie, who played [[Film/SuicideSquad2016 Harley Quinn]].
* PrettyInMink: Wears a fluffy fur coat over her school uniform.
* PungeonMaster: During her time in the Void Theater Segments, Emma has taken up telling pun related jokes to pass the time, much to Hajime's frustration.
* RevealingCoverUp: Does this twice, which allows for Syobai to realise she's the culprit:
** When Kokoro is found unconsious, Emma examines her and says that she feels hot and feverish. However, when talking to Syobai while disguised as Kokoro, she says that she (Kokoro) was attacked by a Void member and needs a fake disease diagnosis for safety, making Emma's earlier statement illogical if there was no actual disease.
** When she (in her Kokoro disguise) meets up with Syobai, she wears a face mask and writes out her request on her iPad. Again, this draws Syobai's suspicion as there'd be no reason to not talk to him regularly if the disease was fake.
* RichInDollarsPoorInSense: Downplayed, but she's more than willing to offer Sora thousands or millions of yen for things like accidentally spoiling her movies or if it'll help jog her memory. She believes it's important to spend money you have before it's too late and that it's best to spend it on friends.
* SailorFuku: She wears a white sailor uniform with a blue skirt and yellow bow.
* ShoutOut: As an actress with roles based on various media references, this was inevitable.
** For starters, her name role in the series "Harry Peter" which is listed up above.
** The name of her character "Holly Queen" is based on the iconic villainess [[ComicBook/HarleyQuinn Harley Quinn]].
** In her official art cover, she's seen dressed up as the [[{{Series/DoctorWho}} Tenth Doctor]], albeit with a gray fur jacket instead of a brown long-coat.
** For her Terminate Talk Shooting battle, she dons an outfit that's a fusion between a Hogwarts student and [[Film/SuicideSquad2016 Harley Quinn]].
** Her execution is chock-full of these as well. For starters, there is a logo for ''Void Productions'' which bears a great resemblance to the Warner Brothers' logo during the Harry Potter movies; she also ends up flying in a broom during the first half of the execution. Monocrow appears dressed as [[Film/TheDarkKnight Heath Ledger's Joker]] and even quotes his iconic one-liner. At the climax, Emma finds herself in [[Film/TheCabinInTheWoods a waiting room with elevators filled with a variety of horror movie characters]] that pop out and tear her to shreds.
* StatuesqueStunner: At 178cm, Emma is both the tallest girl in the class by some margin and taller than any female in the original series besides [[HugeSchoolgirl Sakura]], and is renowned for being a beautiful actress. This proves to be a crucial factor in identifying her as Kokoro's murderer, as the latter's dying message implicated the tallest female of the group.
* StraightManAndWiseGuy: The wise guy to Hajime’s straight man in the Void Theater segments.
* {{Squick}}: InUniverse. She shows up in the Void Theater segments as a pile of flesh. Although she can still talk with Hajime and move about as she pleases.
* TooPowerfulToLive: Emma's acting talent and her ability to suppress her own emotions is something that the other characters consider to be powerful and dangerous. [[TheSmartGirl Kokoro]] claims that it was nearly impossible to analyze Emma's true self because of her facade as a pure-hearted friend and [[BigBad Mikado]] admits that her acting talent is more dangerous than his magic.
* TraumaButton: The mere mention of her [[AbusiveDad father]] is enough to make her lose control and react in fear.
* YouWouldntLikeMeWhenImAngry: According to Hajime, Emma is known to have an aggressive temper when provoked. This is best shown when she attacks Kokoro in Chapter 2 for pressing her TraumaButton.

A guitarist who plays in the band “Melody Rhythm”, a popular music duo. Kanade performs alongside her twin Hibiki, who leads the pair on vocals. The two of them joined Hope’s Peak Academy at the same time. She’s very weak-willed and has trouble expressing her opinions, resulting in her getting pushed around by her sister. Despite the emotional abuse she receives from her sister, she is dependent on her, and almost seems to prefer being dominated by her. Still, she possesses a hidden strength, and sometimes surprises others when it emerges.

She is one of the killers of Chapter 3, having manipulated her sister into helping her murder Setsuka Chiebukuro. She is executed alongside Hibiki by being chained by the neck and forced to race against her sister for a key that will supposedly only let one live, and dies by being hung to death after Hibiki’s decapitation.

----
* ApologisesALot: Frequently apologizes for anything she thinks she did wrong. Mainly to avoid her sister's wrath… and to hide her true sadistic personality.
* AssholeVictim: Given her actions and the fact she gets the less merciful death compared to her sister, it's clear we're not supposed to sympathize with Kanade. Even the other students don't care about her death, directing all their sympathy to Hibiki instead.
* AxCrazy: In Chapter 3, she is revealed to be a deranged SerialKiller whose body count is around 60.
* TheBadGuyWins: No matter how you look at it, Kanade got everything she wanted despite being revealed as the culprit. She doesn't feel a shred of guilt after revealing that she has a long history of killing/harming anyone who got too close to her sister, she burned a valuable piece of information to spite the surviving students, she discovered that she was successful in turning Hibiki into a puppet, and was able to [[DieLaughing die happy]] as she watched her sister die in despair alongside her.
* BadPeopleAbuseAnimals: Her first victim was Hibiki's pet dog Shiro.
* BaitTheDog: Kanade is presented as a ShrinkingViolet bullied by her more assertive sister and, despite being implied to have a darker side, she seems to be a good person overall. Then Chapter 3 comes along.
* BerserkButton: Anyone implying that her reasoning is incorrect or less than perfect.
* BigLittleSister: Although she has a more "mature" figure than her twin sister, Kanade is the younger of the two. But only by 10 seconds.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: Kanade introduced herself as a sweet and submissive person, but she shows a far more blunt and insulting side during the investigations and trials. Chapter 3, perhaps not too surprisingly, reveals her pleasant guise to have been a complete facade.
* BlueAndOrangeMorality: The closest thing Kanade has to a moral compass is her obsessive devotion for Hibiki, so she isn't angry at Monocrow and Mikado for making her play a DeadlyGame as long as Hibiki can escape or die with her. What really solidifies her as this is when she reveals [[{{Yandere}} her motivations]] for [[SerialKiller killing 60 people]] -- she's delusional enough to claim ''anyone'' would have [[MurderTheHypotenuse done the same]] for the one they love!
* BustContrastDuo: Kanade makes up the shyer, bustier half of this duo with her twin sister.
* ButForMeItWasTuesday: When Syobai asks her how many she's killed, she says she didn't bother keeping track. Around 60 is just an estimate.
* ButHeSoundsHandsome: A {{downplayed|trope}} variant. When everybody else is horrified by [[CruelAndUnusualDeath the state of Setsuka's body]], Kanade subtly hypes herself up by telling everyone that the killer this time around "is no joke".
* CainAndAbel: Seems to be the Abel to Hibiki's Cain, until we learn about Kanade's dark side in Chapter 3.
* ChekhovsHobby: In the theme park casino Hibiki mentions that Kanade is an expert at darts since she has near-perfect aim. She ends up using this skill to her advantage to throw Setsuka's body parts into the Ghost House chimney via the monorail.
* CompositeCharacter: According to LINUJ, she was inspired by both [[VisualNovel/DanganronpaV3KillingHarmony Korekiyo Shinguuji and Kokichi Ouma.]]
** Like Korekiyo Shinguuji, Kanade is a serial killer who's obsessed with her sister and becomes Chapter 3's culprit. However, whereas Korekiyo killed in order to give his dead sister "friends", Kanade made sure that she alone would be her sister's only love; quite the inverse of his motivations.
* CrazyPrepared: One of the reasons that her crime is so difficult to solve is the extreme lengths Kanade went to cover up any possible clues or evidence that they could have left behind. For example, the missing torso that causes so much grief is all because Kanade and Hibiki used their shared sense of beat to stab it simultaneously, then Kanade realized that someone might identify them by the marks since Hibiki briefly mentioned that they had this skill about a week earlier as an aside.
* CuteAndPsycho: She looks as adorable as her twin sister, maybe even more so, but she's completely and utterly sick in the head. When her true self rears its ugly head, though, she gets [[NightmareFace a lot less cute]].
* DeadpanSnarker: Has become well known for doing this during the trials:
-->'''Kanade Otonokoji:''' “Why are we even still discussing this? If my reasoning’s sound- which it is, mind you- it becomes pretty obvious that Emma’s tears are about as real as her fake-ass accent.”
* DeusExMachina: She and Hibiki are fingered as the dual-culprits of Setsuka's murder through a long string of ''horrific'' luck. Hibiki unwittingly reveals ahead of time that Kanade has ImprobableAimingSkills ''and'' that they can flawlessly act in sync with each other via TwinTelepathy, which is remembered by Sora and Syoubai, respectively. Kanade was coerced to leave the dining room by Setsuka before she could verify that Iroha drank her coffee that was spiked with sleeping pills, and ''Sora'' drinks the spiked coffee instead because Iroha just doesn't like coffee. Kanade is about to be voted as the sole culprit of Setsuka's murder, but Sora interrupts the vote on nothing but ''a gut feeling'', calling Syoubai's attention to the unsolved mysteries of the murder. Finally, Kanade brought a first aid kit to the scene of the murder in the event that she and Hibiki failed to stab Setsuka simultaneously, and she drops a medicine bottle from the first aid kit and leaves it behind at the pool, even though Kanade herself is ''extremely'' compentent and meticulous. When Sora deduces the reason behind the bottle of medicine found at the pool, Kanade loses her composure and seals her own fate by SayingTooMuch. Mikado makes an offhand comment that implies that these events were being influenced by Utsuro's "divine luck".
-->'''Kanade Otonokoji:''' ''"Bullshit!! I never even opened the damn thing!! There's no way that I dropped the-- Ah...!"''\
....\
'''Kanade Otonokoji:''' ''"Unbelievable... Even if I had dropped it, I would have heard it dropping, considering its size... Or at the very least, I would've noticed the weight decrease from the medical kit... I didn't even leave it to Hibiki... I did this part myself just in case something like this happened..."''
* DeathGlare: In Chapter 2, she starts busting out her {{Nightmare Face}}s in the form of threatening glares and {{Kubrick stare}}s when people question her logic.
* DeliberateUnderPerformance: Due to being naturally more gifted than her sister, Kanade started sabotaging herself on purpose since childhood in order to have a better relationship with Hibiki.
* DieLaughing: Right before and ''even while'' she's hung to death, Kanade is laughing her ass off at how her despair-stricken twin sister just got decapitated. Monocrow even acknowledges this afterwards, shuddering at how creepy the now-dead Kanade was.
-->'''Monocrow:''' T-that girl died laughing. She really is one scary girl.
* DrivenToSuicide: According to LINUJ, Kanade would kill herself to be TogetherInDeath with Hibiki if she should ever outlive her.
* EnfantTerrible: She started her sadistic torture of her twin sister, and her murder spree with the butchering of her and Hibiki's pet dog, when she was ''preschool'' age!
* EvilIsPetty: Before her execution, Kanade burns Setsuka's note (which would have revealed important information about Void to others) out of spite due to being found out as the culprit. She outright calls it petty.
** One of her victims, a girl from grade school named Ayumi, once told Hibiki that her sister is creepy and they should stay away from her. Kanade pushed her from the top of a staircase, leaving her permanently paralyzed from the neck down. Years later and she still remembers the insult, and even wishes she could've done worse.
* ExoticEyeDesigns: [[InvertedTrope Inverted]]. When Kanade's true personality comes to light, her eyes lose the characteristic iris rings of any other ''Danganronpa'' character and her pupils dilate. The overall effect is [[NightmareFace very frightening]].
* ExtremeDoormat: Acts like this around Hibiki, but it turns out she's fine with whatever her sister dishes out because she's much more abusive.
-->'''Kanade:''' All high and mighty, abusing her little sis by the day... But in reality, she was being mentally tortured by her very own sister.
* FailedASpotCheck: Kanade dropped a pill bottle near the pool during her crime, which ends up being an important piece of evidence during trial three. She even muses about how she could have forgotten something as important as that.
* FanDisservice: At the end of her TTS in Trial 3, she ends up topless and covers herself somewhat. Her unsettling, scary behavior throughout said trial certainly leads to this trope, not to mention everything after the trial.
* FatalFlaw: Overconfidence, egotism, and her general psychopathy, leading her to commit a murder during the killing game that eventually gets her executed - and, considering that the simulation causes death in the real world in this game, she actually dies as karma for her despicable villainous agenda to make Hibiki submissive to her.
* FreudianExcuse: When she and her sister were children, Kanade was considered to be exceptionally talented at just about anything while Hibiki was shown to fail at everything. It got to the point that Hibiki grew to resent Kanade for being better and wanted nothing to do with her. This hurt Kanade as she wanted to be loved and appreciated by her sister more than anything. This would lead to the little {{yandere}} to begin killing/hurting anyone who got close to Hibiki so the girl would always go to her for support and comfort.
* FreudianExcuseIsNoExcuse: Although they know about her FreudianExcuse, absolutely nobody gives Kanade any sympathy, and it doesn't come close to justifying all of her murders.
* FriendlessBackground: Doesn't have any friends other than Hibiki, but it’s because [[TheSociopath she only considers Hibiki worthy of being close to her and the two of them are above everyone else]].
* GracefulLoser: {{Subverted|Trope}}. After fighting tooth and nail for [[MarathonBoss hours on end]] to defend herself in Chapter 3, Kanade eventually admits to being the culprit [[TwoDunIt alongside Hibiki]]. But after explaining her motivations, she burns Setsuka's will out of spite, and is proud to admit that she's not a good enough person to lose with grace.
* HateSink: While seemingly a sweet and submissive victim of her sister's bullying, Kanade is at her core a remorseless SerialKiller who's been secretly manipulating and conditioning Hibiki to be completely dependent on her, killing or crippling whoever got too close to Hibiki and even turning her into a living puppet for her pleasure whenever she makes her pass out. Making Hibiki kill Setsuka, the person who acted like a CoolBigSis to her, and waking her up just so she can revel in her despair when they're both executed makes you hate her all the more. She's even this InUniverse, becoming outright loathed by everyone when she's exposed for what she did to Setsuka and Hibiki, and disgusting them all to the point they don't care one bit when she's executed. LINUJ admits in his commentary to favoring Hibiki over Kanade on a personal level, which is completely understandable.
* HatedByAll: After explaining her true motives for murdering Setsuka and her past as a depraved {{serial killer}}, the remaining students react with a mix of disgust, hatred, and shock at how vile and insane she is.
-->'''Sora:''' ''[When] I looked around, everyone was silently looking away from Kanade. And rightfully so. Her story seemed out of this world, even for me. A story from a fantasy world, one that was too insane for us to even comprehend. A degenerate who makes you want to throw up just from the fact that you're breathing the same air as her. ...That was the true identity of Kanade Otonokoji, a person whom we once thought of as our friend, as our classmate.''
* HellBentForLeather: Her Terminate Talk Shooting sprite has a ton of black leather, as befits a {{Metalhead}} like herself. Given [[HolyBurnsEvil her reaction]] when given a bottle of holy water, the "hell" part could be literal.
* HellishPupils: Two of Kanade's {{Nightmare Face}}s show her with a deranged smile and oddly sideways pupils, like a goat's.
* HiddenDepths:
** While seemingly being the more submissive of the two sisters, Kanade is noted to stay remarkably calm while investigating the murders and trials, and is shown to be intelligent enough to help Sora figure out some of the clues. This could also be considered {{Foreshadowing}} in regards to what we learn about her in Chapter 3.
** She also has incredible accuracy when it comes to throwing darts, which she later [[ChekhovsSkill uses in her murder plan]], when she needed to throw Setsuka's dismembered body parts into the Ghost House's chimney.
* HopeCrusher: As befits a {{sadist}}, Kanade proclaims that "nothing beats [her] desire to watch Hibiki's face full of despair".
* HolyBurnsEvil: [[ImpliedTrope Implied]]. One of her least favorite presents to receive from Sora is a bottle of holy water, and she's the only person to not have a neutral reaction to this present. And as for the "evil" part, well... [[SerialKiller yeah]].
* INeverSaidItWasPoison: Near the climax of the third trial, Sora points out that there was a bottle of pills that was found near the pool where Setsuka was murdered. While ranting to defend herself, Kanade accidentally reveals that she forgot to take the pills with her which confirms that she was at the pool at the time of the murder.
* IdenticalTwinIDTag: Her hair is more compressed and she wears two pink sixteenth-note hairclips in her ponytails.
* IdolSinger: She and Hibiki made a career as an idol duo.
* ImmodestOrgasm: During the execution, after Hibiki gets herself decapitated, Kanade's [[LuminescentBlush state]] before her own death all but suggests this. According to Monocrow, this reaction is combined with DieLaughing.
* ImpracticalMusicalInstrumentSkills: According to her profile, she can play the guitar with her teeth.
* IncestantAdmirer: In Chapter 3, she is revealed to have a deranged, possessive "love" for her twin sister Hibiki. She also keeps [[MurderTheHypotenuse killing off every alternative Hibiki might have]] in an effort to mentally break her.
* InsufferableGenius: In Chapter 2's trial, Kanade acts extremely smug and condescending as she explains the cryptic DyingClue Kokoro left behind using the icicles, and repeatedly calls people stupid if they question her theories.
-->'''Kanade Otonokoji:''' ''"Peh! What a disappointment. I never expected you all to share a single-digit IQ like my sister. To think I could easily die if you halfwits vote wrong... Disgusting."''
* InVinoVeritas: During Chapter 1, a drunk Kanade suddenly insults her sister and berates her for dragging her along to the party. Two chapters later, it turns out this was {{foreshadowing}} for her ''real'' personality as a {{Jerkass}} SerialKiller.
* {{Jerkass}}: A huge understatement, Kanade's real self is a horrible and inconsiderate 60-kill count SerialKiller who's been brainwashing her sibling to submit to her by killing anyone who comes close to her.
* KarmaHoudiniWarranty: Kanade has killed and maimed around 60 people (and a dog) close to Hibiki [[EnfantTerrible since she was a little kid]] to condition her into a subservient puppet, and always got away with it. She finally gets what's coming to her during the Killing Game when her classmates manage to pin her for the murder of Setsuka, and she is [[CruelAndUnusualDeath executed]] as per the Killing Game's rules.
* KarmicButtMonkey: Retroactively this with the reveal of her true personality in Chapter 3. Sure, Hibiki [[BigSisterBully bullied her]] in her own immature way, but considering Kanade is actually a depraved {{serial killer}}, it's not hard to say she deserved worse.
* KickTheDog: Quite literally. One of the victims of her obsessive desire for Hibiki was their pet dog.
* TheKillerWasLeftHanded: Although TwoDunIt in Chapter 3, Kanade is left-handed, the mastermind behind Setsuka's murder, ''and'' a SerialKiller to boot.
* KubrickStare: Two of her {{Nightmare Face}}s count as this. In both of them, she's shown leaning forward, with huge, wide eyes and her face cast in a threatening shadow. One has her mouth slightly agape, but the other has a nasty SlasherSmile.
* LadySwearsALot: Downplayed at first, as it was only in the trials where she leans into it, later played straight when her true personality comes to light in the Chapter 3 trial, she quickly becomes one of the most foul-mouthed members of the cast.
-->'''Kanade Otonokoji:''' ''"OPEN YOUR [[PrecisionFStrike FUCKING]] EARHOLES AND LISTEN!!"''
* LivingEmotionalCrutch: Was this to Hibiki for her entire life... while simultaneously being the source of Hibiki's trauma in the first place.
* LoneWolfBoss: Yuki assumes the Otonokoji twins are the last two members of Void after they're exposed as Setsuka's killers, only for Mikado to reveal that is not the case. In fact, Kanade's motive for killing Setsuka had nothing to do with Void or their individual goals, and Hibiki is just as much a victim of her sister as Setsuka is because she had no control over her actions at the time she assisted Kanade. This makes Kanade the only ArcVillain and/or murderer who is not a member of Void.
* LoveMakesYouCrazy: Crazy enough to murder at least 60 people to keep her sister all to herself, apparently...
* MarathonBoss: A rare VisualNovel example. Despite taking place at the halfway point of the game, the trial where Kanade commits murder is a six-hour-long ordeal that requires Sora to break down her many, many alibis the entire time.
* MaskOfSanity: She is very good at putting on a facade of sanity until Chapter 3, where she's revealed to be a deranged SerialKiller.
* MeaningfulName: Kanade's first name kanji is taken from the verb "kanaderu", meaning "to play an instrument", especially stringed instruments, referencing her talent as the Ultimate Guitarist. Her last name, uses the kanji "oto" meaning "sound", "no", meaning "of", "ko" meaning "small", and "ji" meaning "road". The last two kanji characters in her surname can also be read together as "kōji" which simply means "path". Combined with the rest of the kanji, her last name could mean "path of sound".
* MelodicDeathMetal: Prefers playing death metal songs to light pop favoured by Hibiki. Her outfit in her Terminate Talk Shooting battle features her dressed up in death metal attire with makeup and everything.
* MoreHateableMinorVillain: Void may be the ones running the Killing Game, but most of its members have extremely severe [[DarkAndTroubledPast troubled childhoods]] and genial personalities, and even [[BigBad Mikado]] has [[ThrowTheDogABone his few moments of kindness]] and can at least be [[FauxAffablyEvil outwardly pleasant]]. Kanade has absolutely no ties to them, yet she is perhaps the most morally depraved of the participants, her atrocities being so severe that [[EvenEvilHasStandards Mikado is spooked]].
* MusicalThemeNaming: Her name comes from ''kanaderu'', meaning "to play a stringed instrument". This, plus her band's name, "Melody Rhythm", is also a reference to Kanade Minamino/Cure Rhythm from ''Anime/SuitePrettyCure''.
* {{Narcissist}}: Big time. She considers herself better and smarter than everyone in the cast, acts [[SmugSnake extremely arrogant and condescending]] during the Class Trials, and has absolutely ''zero'' empathy toward anyone else, even her own parents. Is it any wonder that she'd fall in love with her twin sister, the closest thing to [[ScrewYourself herself]]?
* NearVillainVictory: The only reason she gets exposed as killing Setsuka at the same time as Hibiki is because of an enforced DeusExMachina, as her crime was otherwise much too complex to solve easily and the spotless make several mistakes when trying to expose her during her trial.
* NightmareFace: Pulls off some in Chapter 3 that would put even [[VisualNovel/DanganronpaV3KillingHarmony Kokichi]] to shame. According to LINUJ, some of her nastiest sprites were inspired by him. Kokichi only has five scary sprites, and makes a new one roughly once per chapter -- Kanade has ''eleven'', and she's only alive for three chapters.
* NiceGirl: She seems like the nicer of the Otonokoji sisters, but it's {{subverted|Trope}} with [[HateSink extreme prejudice]] with the revelation of her actual self, an [[SmugSnake egotistical]], {{sadist}}ic, [[EvilIsPetty spiteful]] {{Jerkass}} and [[SerialKiller serial murderer]].
* NoSympathy: While Sora feels somewhat guilty for accusing the grief-stricken Emma as Kokoro’s murderer, Kanade shows her no sympathy whatsoever and keeps demanding with increasing spitefulness that she confess to the crime. She ends up being justified in this though, as Emma actually was the murderer.
* NotMeThisTime: {{Subverted|Trope}}. When the video of her murdering her and Hibiki's parents is revealed, she claims it's a fabrication and that she hasn't gotten around to killing them yet. However, after Mikado insists that the videos are authentic, Kanade realizes that all their memories were altered right before the Killing Game, and she really ''had'' killed their parents.
* ObliviousToHisOwnDescription: In the Chapter 3 trial, she tells Sora that she might "throw up at the sight of [her] disgusting face"... while flashing her most horrific NightmareFace out of ''eleven'' different {{Nightmare Face}}s.
* OffingTheAnnoyance: Kanade's overall goal, in simplicity. In complexity, it's more like offing the developer; [[MentorArchetype the developer of Hibiki's personality]], specifically. [[EvilIsPetty Mainly because they're an annoyance to her plan]] to prevent Hibiki from becoming a more mature character over her entire lifetime for the sake of progressing her sadistic torture of her sister.
* ThePerfectionist: She even calls herself one during her Rebuttal Showdown. Considering how thorough she was in covering her tracks and the fact that she has more objections than [[Franchise/AceAttorney Manfred von Karma]] when she's accused, we're inclined to believe her.
* PolarOppositeTwins: Kanade is the more submissive, friendly, and gentle-hearted one of the two sisters. Unlike Hibiki, Kanade proves herself to be very helpful during the investigations and the trials due to her experience with murder, but she also tends to be extremely condescending and arrogant during that time. This even extends to what is revealed about the relationship between the twins in the Chapter 3. Kanade pretends to care about her sister and support her during the killing game, but in reality, she couldn't care less about Hibiki's feelings and has emotionally abused her since early childhood to make her "inferior twin" completely depend on her, while Hibiki, despite often being rough to Kanade, is shown to sincerely love her sister and care about her.
* PoliticallyIncorrectVillain: A throwaway line in her Rebuttal Showdown has her use an ableist slur, completely out of nowhere.
-->'''Kanade Otonokoji:''' ''"Don't you dare shit on my perfect crime, you autists!"''
* PsychoPink: Has pink hair and accents on her dress, and happens to be [[AxCrazy absolutely insane]].
* PsychologicalProjection: In the Chapter 3 trial, she calls Sora "nothing but a disgusting parasite" for relying on Syobai's theory, lambasts her for her "sheer arrogance", and then tells her she's going to "throw up from the sight of [her] disgusting face". Which is pretty rich, considering her abusive relationship with her sister, her malignant narcissism, and her staggering number of {{Nightmare Face}}s (the worst of which [[ObliviousToHisOwnDescription she is showing off]] as she's yelling all of this).
* PutTheLaughterInSlaughter: She thinks her sister's [[OffWithHerHead execution]] is hilarious, and even [[DieLaughing dies laughing]].
* RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver: Her Terminate Talk Shooting sprite starts with ominous black and red music notes around her, she's dressed in [[HellBentForLeather tons of black leather]], her makeup and belt are both red, and she's holding a black and red [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gibson_Flying_V Flying V guitar]]. Far and away the cruelest character in the game, Kanade fits this color scheme perfectly.
* RevealingCoverUp: When asked about it, she says that she messily stabbed Setsuka's torso without much thought, then realized it could be potential evidence and hid it. This immediately clues Syobai in that she's lying because after all the carefull, meticulous planning that went into the murder, there's no way she would just stab as carelessly as she claimed.
* RottenRockAndRoll: Loves rock and metal music, and also is a monstrous SerialKiller. Given the [[SatanicArchetype subtle demon motifs]] Kanade is given, this could also be a case of RockMeAsmodeus
* {{Sadist}}: She becomes [[LuminescentBlush visibly aroused]] when she realizes she'll get to see Hibiki die in despair during their execution, and she makes the same expression as she recounts all the times she drove her sister to tears with her murders. Even her final moments are spent [[PutTheLaughterInSlaughter laughing hysterically at Hibiki's decapitation]].
-->'''Kanade:''' As soon as I realized [[BadPeopleAbuseAnimals I did something wrong]], I did feel a bit guilty. But the reaction Hibiki showed afterwards soon got rid of any afterthoughts I had. Instead of bullying me again for the loss of her puppy as expected, she started to cry in my arms. "Kanade, help me. What should I do?" she cried. And that face of hers back then...... was the face of an angel, more precious and adorable than anything I had ever seen......♥
* SailorFuku: She wears a pale blue sailor dress with light magenta collar and white trim, and a large light amber bow.
* SatanicArchetype: {{Downplayed|Trope}}. Kanade is human, but she's a corrupting influence on Hibiki to the point of [[ManchurianAgent brainwashing]], plays the innocent victim while secretly killing off Hibiki's loved ones to exert control and [[{{Sadist}} enjoy her sister's pain]], and has a slight association with fire because of [[SoreLoser burning Setsuka's letter]]. She also has several demonic motifs herself. On top of being the only student to [[HolyBurnsEvil dislike receiving the Holy Water as a present]], Kanade leaves Setsuka's body at the "Devil's Altar", is shown with HellishPupils in some of her [[NightmareFace scarier sprites]], and has a Terminate Talk Shooting segment where she's shown with a [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gibson_Flying_V Flying V guitar]] (notably played by the guitarist of the [[SatanicPanic allegedly demonic]] metal band Music/JudasPriest). The chapter where Kanade commits murder is called "The Girl who Looked at the Devil Inside the Abyss"; presumably, she's the titular devil.
* SelfMadeOrphan: Has murdered her and Hibiki's parents before the killing game.
* SerialKiller: At the end of the third trial, Kanade is revealed to have murdered or seriously injured more than 60 people just for getting too close to her sister. Based on her account, she's been successful in getting away with each of those crimes until now.
* ShorterMeansSmarter: Stands at only 4'9" (145 centimeters) tall, and she's one of the smartest participants in the entire killing game.
* ASinisterClue: Is shown to play guitar using her left hand in the second chapter, which implies this trope. This is outright confirmed in Chapter 3, where Kanade's lefthandedness is used to prove the fact that both she and Hibiki have committed the murder.
* SleepsWithBothEyesOpen: If Sora completes the twins' Free Time events, Hibiki will text her in Chapter 3 casually mentioning that Kanade's doing this and [[FaceDoodling invite her over to help draw on her face]]. One of several clues that something was ''off'' about her.
* TheSmartGirl: She is considered the most objectively intelligent student in the cast, even beyond Kokoro. Even in the third trial, Syobai himself casually points out how Kanade's much more meticulous at her work than he is. Her intelligence and talents allow her to make a murder case as complicated and brutal as the one she produced. It's even complicated by Chapter 3 standards by the inclusion of a double-blackened idea, something no one considered until divine luck allowed them to at the very last second.
* SmugSnake: Considered herself perfect from the moment she was born, and believes Hibiki's bullying of her was because she knew she was the inferior twin.
* TheSociopath: She has superficial charm, an egotistical view of herself, and [[LackOfEmpathy complete disregard for the emotions of others]]. She subjected her own sister to long-term psychological abuse and manipulation to make her utterly dependent on her plus she remorselessly kills and cripples anyone she thinks gets too close to her.
* SoreLoser: Initially pretends to be a GracefulLoser after her scheme is exposed in Chapter 3... but then she throws what she calls an "[[PsychopathicManchild adorable tantrum]]" and burns Setsuka's will out of spite, taunting the other Ultimates for even thinking she would be a good enough person to read it aloud.
* TattooedCrook: Her [[BossBattle Terminate Talk Shooting]] shows off an intricate black tattoo that covers her whole left arm and shoulder. She isn't seen with it at the beginning of the game, which means it's either there [[ObviouslyEvil for effect]] or she got it at some later point [[LotusEaterMachine outside the Neo World Program]].
* TaremeEyes: The other IdenticalTwinIDTag to distinguish her from Hibiki.
* ThereAreTwoKindsOfPeopleInTheWorld: LINUJ claims that to Kanade, there are three kinds of people - herself, Hibiki, and "[[FacelessMasses some unnamed Person A]]".
* UltimateLifeForm: Kanade is considered to be this by both herself and [[{{Slimeball}} Syobai]], though Syobai only really ''implies'' this interpretation, noting her as intelligent and more talented in ways besides being a guitarist beyond even himself. Kanade, however, is fully in the belief that she is perfect and indicates that she is above everyone as hinted by the fact that she says she "despises every single one" of the people surrounding her and is completely willing to kill anyone standing in the way of her goal. This is [[JustifiedTrope proven to be true]] what with the fact that all of her murders and violent acts toward her targets are all ones she has gotten away with, along with the trial of her case being an utterly close DeusExMachina MindScrew moment near-6 hours long to both solve and understand the background of.
* UnderestimatingBadassery: During the Case Three post-trial, Kanade says that she believes that this was a big factor in her crime failing. She understood that [[ProfessionalKiller Syobai]] would recognize certain elements of her murder being unusual and made sure to plan ahead to trick him, but failed to take Sora into account. Through the combined efforts of her and Syobai, they were able to break down Kanade's crime and, through a lot of hard work, correctly deduce that it was she and her sister who murdered Setsuka.
* {{Unishment}}: Even though she is executed for her and Hibiki's murder of Setsuka, Kanade doesn't mind it very much because Hibiki is going down with her.
* UnreliableNarrator: According to her, her and Hibiki's middle school homeroom teacher, who was one of the [[SerialKiller 60 or so victims she killed]], was a pedophile who had indecent thoughts towards Hibiki. Given how possessive she is of Hibiki, this claim is questionable at best.
* VillainousGlutton: According to LINUJ, she has a huge appetite. It's caught up with her, as Hibiki makes fun of her "[[YouAreFat muffin top]]" in their Free Time Events. Also, she's revealed to be pure evil.
* VillainousIncest: Kanade hides an obsessive, {{yandere}}-like "love" for her sister Hibiki beneath her shy, sweet exterior. To make things extra-disturbing, it's topped off with a healthy dose of [[{{Sadist}} pure sadism]] -- in the Chapter 3 trial, she can't stop herself from cooing over Hibiki's frightened, traumatized face, calling it "so adorable", with [[WingdingEyes bright red hearts in her eyes]]!
-->'''Kanade''': Just imagining what my poor sis will look like when she comes to the realization of [[CruelAndUnusualDeath what's coming for her]]... makes me... Hah... sooo excited.........♥
* VillainWithGoodPublicity: In the real world, Kanade and Hibiki have been revered as symbols of Hope thanks to their endless charity work. Unfortunately, the public never caught on to Kanade's serial killer lifestyle. It's heavily implied that Mikado never knew about it.
* WalkingSpoiler: It's hard to talk about her without mentioning her true nature as a depraved SerialKiller.
* WhamLine: While explaining her backstory after being exposed as one of Chapter 3's culprits, she makes the following shocking statement that makes it clear just ''how'' depraved she is, even in comparison to the previous two killers in the game. Adding to the shock is the fact that the whammy part is accompanied by the music changing from "Despair Syndrome" to "[[VideoGame/DigimonStoryCyberSleuth A Fearful Encounter]]."
-->'''Kanade:''' The next day, when I was alone at home... [[red:I butchered Shiro]][[note]]her and her twin sister Hibiki's pet dog[[/note]] [[red:with a kitchen knife and threw it away down the drain.]]
* WingdingEyes: Gains a pair of glowing red hearts in her eyes when she starts [[{{Yandere}} showing her love over Hibiki]].
* {{Yandere}}: Kanade desired her sister Hibiki's love more than anything and later on lusted for her. When Hibiki, jealous of Kanade's natural talent, wanted nothing to do with her, Kanade snapped and became a SerialKiller who went as far as to kill 60 people, including her own parents and their dog Shiro, in order to ensure Hibiki could only rely on her for comfort and thus become emotionally dependent on her. She also conditioned Hibiki into entering an emotionless state where she's completely subservient to Kanade and forced her to kill her best friend Setsuka.

The vocalist of ‘Melody Rhythm’, a popular music duo. Hibiki always performs alongside her guitarist twin sister, and the two of them enrolled at Hope’s Peak at the same time. She cares about her sister, Kanade, but often treats her harshly due to her “older sister” complex. Furthermore, she may also harbor some feelings of jealousy and inferiority towards her twin. Hibiki always claims that the way she treats her sister is a joke, but does Kanade feel the same way…?

She is one of the killers of Chapter 3, manipulated by her sister into helping her murder Setsuka Chiebukuro. She is executed alongside Kanade by being chained by the neck and forced to race against her sister for a key that will supposedly only let one live, and dies by having her head chopped off after she reaches the key first.

----
* AlasPoorVillain: While she was the co-murderer of Case Three, it’s made completely clear that she had no free will in what she was doing and that Kanade was the real mastermind behind the entire plan, having put her into her “puppet state” for the entire thing. After she’s informed that she helped to killed Setsuka, she’s confused and horrified, bursting into tears and claiming that she couldn’t have done it and that she can’t remember anything that happened. Her final moments consist of her sobbing and screaming for somebody to save her.
* AlphaBitch: Comes off as this because of her rude and arrogant attitude.
* BigNO!: Just before her and Kanade's execution.
* BigSisterBully: Towards Kanade. A [[DownplayedTrope downplayed example]], since the total age difference between them is ten seconds. Also inverted in that Kanade is revealed to have done far, far, ''FAR'' worse to Hibiki than just bullying.
* BitchAlert: Her first scene in the Prologue involves her belittling her twin sister.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: Repeated trauma from losing everyone around her, [[SerialKiller courtesy of Kanade]], results in Hibiki turning into an EmptyShell susceptible to Kanade's every command whenever she's frightened enough. Naturally, she's controlled into helping her sister murder Setsuka.
* BrattyHalfPint: Even though she's technically the same age as the other Ultimates, she's an unpleasant TinyTyrannicalGirl who is clearly less mature than her peers.
* BustContrastDuo: Hibiki forms the ruder, flat-chested half of this duo with her twin sister.
* CainAndAbel: Seems to be the Cain to Kanade's Abel, but the roles become switched when Chapter 3 comes around.
* CartesianKarma: Was brainwashed by Kanade into killing Setsuka, and is still executed as a culprit, despite not being in control of her actions whatsoever.
* CharacterDevelopment: Initially, Hibiki was self-centered, was hostile towards everyone around her and was emotionally fragile. By Chapter 3, she makes more of an effort to be more cooperative and kinder to her classmates in the hopes of helping them with their investigations.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: She loses her head by the collar around her neck during her and Kanade's execution by using a key she believes will avert her own demise. It seems the lesser of two evils, since Kanade proceeds to be hung by the neck until dead, but on the other hand, it's Hibiki who [[DespairEventHorizon dies in despair]] while Kanade quite literally [[DieLaughing dies laughing]] about it.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Is revealed in Chapter 3 to have lost everyone she's ever cared about because her {{Yandere}} sister would [[SerialKiller brutally murder them]]. The resulting psychological issues are so severe that enough trauma will [[ManchurianAgent turn her into a mindless puppet]].
* DefiantToTheEnd: To her credit, Hibiki doesn't go down easy. During her and Kanade's execution, she immediately runs for the key to save herself. When Kanade grabs her by the leg, Hibiki beats her across the head with a microphone hard enough to ''draw blood,'' then manages to pull the chain link them together hard enough to start choking her, also strangling Kanade in the processes, and successfully reaches the key. Sadly, [[OffWithHerHead it doesn't save her.]]
* EtTuBrute: Despite being an abrasive bully to her, Hibiki still loved Kanade as her sister and depended on her when she needed comfort. Which makes the reveal of Kanade's true nature, as well as the fact that she's been making her dependent on her by killing or crippling Hibiki's friends or loved ones, all the more horrifying. When Hibiki sees Kanade for who she truly is as well as the fact she murdered their parents, Hibiki's sisterly love for Kanade turns into fear and disgust.
* FaceDeathWithDespair: Attempts to run away from the courtroom before her execution, and after that fails, screams and pleads for ''someone'' to save her. This reaction is perfectly justified, since from her perspective she just awoke to learn she's going to be executed for something she does not remember doing, and in addition to that finally realised that her beloved sister was the one responsible for all the deaths happening around her.
* FanDisservice: The end of her Terminate Talk Shooting shows her in torn-apart clothing with [[LegFocus both of her legs on display]] and underwear around one ankle, but considering [[{{Womanchild}} her personality]] and [[HeroicBSOD her present situation]], it's nothing but awful to look at.
* GreenEyedMonster: The reason for her bullying of Kanade. Even since they were children, Kanade was more talented at anything she did, while Hibiki, despite her best efforts, [[AlwaysSecondBest kept losing against her sister]]. Because of this, Hibiki started to resent Kanade, which eventually crossed into outright bullying. However, Hibiki still relies on her sister really much and is shown to genuinely love her, despite everything.
* HotForTeacher: She had a crush on her and Kanade's middle school homeroom teacher. Which was reason enough for Kanade to kill and bury him on a hill near the school.
* IdenticalTwinIDTag: Her hair is slightly curlier and she wears two pink individual eighth notes in her pigtails.
* IdolSinger: She and Kanade made a career as an idol duo.
* ImproperlyParanoid: By Chapter 2, Hibiki becomes more hostile and aggressive towards the others apart from her sister, accusing them of being potential ''Void'' members. It turns out the person she should have distrusted the most happens to be her ''sister''.
* InelegantBlubbering: In the third trial, Hibiki becomes a sobbing mess after everyone brings up solid evidence that deduces her as Setsuka's killer despite having no memory of her committing the dark deed.
* InferioritySuperiorityComplex: In Chapter 3 Kanade reveals that Hibiki's rough behaviour towards her younger sister actually extends from feeling inferior to Kanade and envying her for being better at everything.
* ItsAllMyFault: At the end of the second trial, Hibiki accepts that it was because of her fragility and selfishness that resulted in two more of her classmates dying.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Despite her treatment to Kanade, she genuinely loves and cares about her. Turns out she is the good twin, while Kanade is a remorseless serial killer to anyone close to Hibiki.
* KickTheDog: {{Subverted|Trope}}. She bullies her seemingly kind younger sister Kanade… however, with the reveal of Kanade's true depraved nature, one can easily say Kanade deserved far worse.
* ManchurianAgent: Kanade has conditioned Hibiki to go into a sort of a blank state when given the right trigger. While Hibiki is in this state, she is only able to respond to Kanade's commands and obey them.
* MeaningfulName: Hibiki's first name means "echo" or "resonance".
* MusicalThemeNaming: "Hibiki" is Japanese for "echo", "sound", or "reverberate". This, plus her band's name "Melody Rhythm", comes from Hibiki Houjou/Cure Melody from the music-themed ''Anime/SuitePrettyCure''.
* OffWithHerHead: During her and Kanade's execution, she manages to grab the key that she believes will allow her to unlock the shackle around her neck and escape, but it instead triggers a mechanism inside the shackle that decapitates her, killing her instantly.
* PaperTiger: Despite her abrasive attitude, she breaks easily under stressful situations and needs to rely on her sister for support.
* PolarOppositeTwins: Hibiki is the more brash, outspoken and feisty of the two sisters. Unlike Kanade, Hibiki proves herself to be of almost no use during investigations or trials, but she eventually starts to warm up to her classmates, wanting to lift everyone's spirits, like [[CoolBigSis Setsuka]] and [[TheIdealist Shinji]], and trying to see good in people. This even extends to what is revealed about the relationship between the twins in Chapter 3. In spite of her rough behavior towards Kanade, Hibiki is shown to sincerely love her sister and care about her, while Kanade pretends to care about her sister and support her during the killing game, but in reality, she couldn't care less about Hibiki's feelings and has emotionally abused her since early childhood to make her "inferior twin" completely depend on her.
* PrecociousCrush: According to Kanade, she had one on their middle school homeroom teacher. Naturally, this led to said teacher being murdered by [[{{Yandere}} Kanade]].
* SailorFuku: She wears a pale blue sailor dress with a light magenta collar and white trim and a large light amber bow.
* SayingTooMuch: Throughout the game, Hibiki would openly reveal facts about the skills and talents pertaining to her and Kanade. It's thanks to these facts that Sora and Syobai are able to figure out the twists and turns to the twins' murder scheme in the third trial.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: At the end of the third trial where she and her sister are confirmed as Setsuka's killer, Hibiki runs toward the trial doors in a desperate attempt to escape her upcoming execution.
* ShoutOut:
** In her English intro video, she's humming the song "Thrilling One Way" from ''Franchise/LoveLive''.
** From the same video, she also says the line [[{{Film/Heathers}} ''what's her damage'']] when mentioning her sister.
** She and her sister are also named after two of the main characters from ''Anime/SuitePrettyCure''.
** During her Terminate Talk Shooting battle, she's dressed up as [[{{Music/Vocaloid}} Hatsune Miku]] with a purple color scheme.
* SympatheticMurderer: She was brainwashed by Kanade into killing Setsuka. Everyone agreed she didn't deserve to be executed alongside Kanade since she wasn't in control of her actions.
* TinyTyrannicalGirl: Like her twin sister, she's only 4'9" (145 cm) tall, but she has a much more abrasive, forceful personality (at least, at first).
* TraumaInducedAmnesia: She suffers memory loss when under "extreme stress".
* TsurimeEyes: The other IdenticalTwinIDTag to distinguish her from Kanade.
* [[{{Manchild}} Womanchild]]: Hibiki is in her late teens like everybody else (outside the Neo World Program, she's actually in her ''twenties''), but she acts like a BrattyHalfPint. {{Justified|Trope}} -- she's been kept isolated from other people for much of her life, since [[{{Yandere}} Kanade]] kills anyone who gets close enough to help her develop as a person.
* YouMonster: She called her sister this after she was revealed to have killed her parents.

[[caption-width-right:350:''“Now, now. That’s a secret, my boy. It’s dangerous to pry into a woman’s intimate secrets.”'']]

The Ultimate Billiard Player who suddenly took the world by storm when she won the International Amateur Championship in a series of perfect games. She has a laidback and optimistic personality, and she often treats others like children due to her mature appearance. The only time she opens her right eye is when she is playing billiards, and it is never seen otherwise. She calls this her “devil’s eye”, and claims that an enormous power is hidden within it…

She is the victim of Chapter 3, stabbed to death by Hibiki and Kanade Otonokoji, and later dismembered.

----
* AllWomenAreLustful: In the bonus scene, ''A Woman's Fantasy'', she tricks Sora, Yoruko and Iroha into coming with her to the bathhouse, where she locks them inside along with a majority of the male students who were initially bathing together.
* TheConfidant: She becomes this to Nikei in Chapter 3 as he recruits her to help spy on Mikado while also filling her in on the dynamics of ''Void''.
* CoolBigSis: Tries to come off as this to the other students. She even comforts Hibiki in Chapter 3.
* CheatersNeverProsper: She was eventually caught by the billiards community for using her electronic eye to cheat during games. This led to her being banned from billiards and forced to pay quite a large fine as punishment. Luckily, she managed to find work as a private detective.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Not really her murder (stabbed in the stomach while unconscious and bleeding out) but what happened after her murder. She has her entire body dismembered into ten pieces and placed onto an altar inside of the haunted house of the amusement park in Chapter 3.
* DoesNotLikeSpam: Dislikes fish, according to LINUJ.
* ElectronicEyes: According to Nikei, her "devil's eye" is actually a built in spy camera that can record anything. She later explains in her free-time events that her electronic eye can record all past visual information received by it.
* ExoticEyeDesigns: Her right eye has a crosshair.
* EyesAlwaysShut: Only her right eye is shut; she claims it's her 'devil's eye'. We only see it open in one of her Free Time events and [[DiesWideOpen after she's been killed]] in Chapter 3.
* EyeScream: Lost her right eye as a child, which was then surgically replaced with an electronic transplant that Setsuka would later start to call "devil's eye". According to her, she also used to be bullied pretty badly because of it.
* TheHeart: She is this to the main group. It's with her leadership skills and compassion that the group has been able to get along as friends and have a more positive demeanor. After her brutal murder in Chapter 3, the group loses its camaraderie and drifts apart. Even [[TheIdealist Shinji]] loses his fiery motivation to support the group.
* HiddenDepths: She knows how to draw in a cute art style.
* ImprobableHairstyle: Setsuka's hairdo is one of the strangest hairstyles in a Fanganronpa work. LINUJ even wonders if such a hairdo can even exist in the real world.
* InhumanEyeConcealers: The real world Setsuka has bangs that cover up her "devil's eye".
* LadyInAPowerSuit: She wears a fancy red vest and pants combo which contributes to her 'mature' image.
* LivingEmotionalCrutch: Was basically this for Hibiki, along with Kanade.
* TheLancer: To Shinji; she agrees with and tries to practice his ideals in encouraging the other students to work together as friends.
* MeaningfulName: Her first name is Japanese for "snow flower" which can refer to her blue hair and pale skin. Her surname uses the kanji "chie" meaning "wisdom", and "bukuro" meaning "bag" or "pouch", and together may refer to her talent with billiards (pocketing balls).
* TheNicknamer: Has a habit of giving nicknames to her classmates as a sign of endearment.
* NoChallengeEqualsNoSatisfaction: Says that she doesn’t really enjoy billiards all that much since using her bionic eye guarantees a perfect shot each time.
* NoGoodDeedGoesUnpunished: Was killed solely for trying to befriend Hibiki and bring her out of her shell.
* OffWithHerHead: She gets beheaded as part of the Otonokoji sisters' murder plan.
* ThePrankster: She likes pulling light-hearted jokes on her classmates to liven their spirits.
* PrivateDetective: After being outed by the billiards community as a cheater, Setsuka found work as a professional detective. She was even hired by the Kisaragi Foundation to infiltrate Mikado's killing game to give them as much information as possible.
* SignatureHeadgear: She has a hairpin of a yellow 9 ball.
* StatuesqueStunner: Apart from Emma, she's the tallest girl among the cast and is quite a beauty to boot.
* TeamMom: She takes on this role in order to help the group bond and get along with each other. It also helps that she tries to pass off as more "mature" than her peers while also providing comfort and support to those who need it most.
* {{Troll}}: As described above, she intentionally locks three of the girls in the bathhouse while the guys are using it.

[[caption-width-right:350:''“Sorry for the late introduction. I’m Yuki Maeda, this year’s Ultimate Lucky Student.”'']]

An ordinary boy who was selected by a lottery to be this year’s Ultimate Luck Student.. He lacks confidence due to how he was selected to attend Hope’s Peak Academy, but he does his best to befriend his fellow classmates. He sees himself as very average, but his likable nature allows him to connect with others more easily than his classmates.

In Chapter 0, it's revealed that the Yuki in the killing game is actually an advanced AI based on the original Yuki Maeda who was kidnapped by Utsuro and Akane, and that his physical existance is nothing more than a brain hooked up to a VR system. He survives the killing game after Syobai transfers his mind into Sora's body.

----
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: Since he’s the Ultimate Lucky Student, Yuki often wishes that he was more special like the other students. By chapter five, the stress from the Killing Game has caused him to reverse his wish, with him wanting nothing more than to go back to his ordinary life.
* BornLucky: No surprise for being the Ultimate Lucky Student.
* BrainInAJar: Mikado rather horrifyingly reveals this to be the state of Yuki's real body during Chapter 6 - while many of the others' bodies are drastically older or different from their teenage personas in the simulation, all that's left of the real Yuki is a brain connected into the Neo World Program. His body had left preserved and intact by Utsuro and Akane, but prior to the beginning of the killing game, his body was discarded by Kokoro and Syobai to retrieve his brain. He gets to live in the good ending through having his consciousness uploaded into ''Sora's'' body instead.
* BreakTheCutie: By Chapter 3, it's becoming apparent that the events of the killing game so far is starting to take a toll on him, as he begins to lash out at those around him. It only gets worse in Chapter 4 with the death of Shinji and the circumstances around it.
** As it turns out, this is the main point of the killing game. The ordeal of the killing game is meant to break down Yuki's personality so that another one can be inserted into him.
* CallBack: A brief scene during the mass execution in Chapter 5 shows that Yuki's own punishment is [[VisualNovel/DanganronpaTriggerHappyHavoc After School Detention]].
* DecoyProtagonist: He’s initially portrayed as the game's Male Lead and while still a very important character, by Chapter 4, it is revealed that Syobai is the game's actual {{Deuteragonist}} and Male Lead.
* DeathGlare: Some of his sprites shockingly have this, although he does get a bit better with it later on.
* DistressedDude: In the 6th trial, his mind is held captive in cyberspace by Mikado.
* DivergentCharacterEvolution: According to his character profile by LINUJ, the Yuki Maeda from the start of the killing school trip and the one of [[VisualNovel/DanganronpaAnother the prequel]] are completely identical in personality and in brain structure. The main difference between the two lies entirely with their environment as well as what they experienced during their killing games.
* DrivenToSuicide: During Chapter 5, after snapping out of his Utsuro-induced personality, he attempts to do so by slitting his throat due to a combination of feeling responsible for all the deaths at hand, and because he's aware that Utsuro's personality is starting to take him over.
* EvilCostumeSwitch: When Utsuro's in control of him, he opens up his jacket, unbuttons his shirt's collar to leave his tie loose, gains TsurimeEyes, and his hair becomes noticeably more dishevelled and a duller shade of orange.
* FanBoy: He's a huge fan of Emma and is implied to have a crush on her.
* GenderBender: Has his mind transferred into the body of Akane Taira at the end of sixth chapter.
* TheGenericGuy: He's fairly normal in terms of appearance and personality compared to his fellow classmates.
* IdenticalStranger: He has a similar appearance to the previous BigBad, Utsuro.
* IdiotHair: While not the protagonist, he does have one. One of the options during his first Free Time Event has Sora asking to touch it and then comparing it to her own.
* IJustWantToBeSpecial: His bio card states that he wants to be special and that he dislikes being ordinary.
* KickTheMoralityPet: In Chapter 4, he makes rude and condescending remarks over Shinji's idealistic beliefs. Then in a fit of confusion and fear, Yuki ends up stabbing him in the neck while trapped in the Tower of Babylon.
* KnightOfCerebus: The awakening of Utsuro's personality within him marks a dark shift in the storyline.
* TheLancer: Next to Yoruko, he's Sora's closest friend.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: Pretty much a given for being partially involved in murdering Shinji, and for going insane in general during the later chapters.
* NiceGuy: He's a sweet and friendly young man, up until the end of Chapter 3.
* PrefersTheIllusion: The revelation of what's left of his [[BrainInAJar physical form]] combined with Mikado saying that he'll bring back Shinji is enough to persuade Yuki to pick the graduate option in Trial Six.
* RecurringElement: Just like the canon games, Yuki is the male lead with insecurity issues and feels depressed that he needs to rely on others for help.
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: The sensitive guy to Shinji's manly man.
* SplitPersonalityTakeover: By the end of the fourth trial, ''Utsuro's'' personality starts to have more dominance. As of Chapter 5, Yuki is aware that another personality is threatening to take him over and is horrified.
* TakeMyHand: When the surviving students are about to be mass executed in Chapter 5, Yuki does this to Sora. It works about as well as you'd think in that scenario.
* TheseHandsHaveKilled: The Case Four Closing Argument depicts him staring at his bloodied hands in horror after he slashes Shinji’s throat.
* ThisIsUnforgivable: When he briefly addresses Utsuro after Trial 6, the only thing he decides to tell him is that he'll never forgive him for having essentially destroyed his life.
* ThrowTheDogABone: After all the trauma and pain he's endured, Yuki is given a new chance at life as Sora decides to transfer his mind into her body which has been infused with ''Divine Luck''.
* TookALevelInCynicism: See BreakTheCutie above.
* TookALevelInJerkass: See BreakTheCutie above.
* WhatTheHellHero: In the 6th trial, he chews out Tsurugi after he reveals his misdeeds and how he tries to justify them stating it's for the "greater good". Yuki outright tells him that that still doesn't make him any better than Mikado.

[[caption-width-right:350:''“Sure thing. Nothin’ more important than caring about your health. If you have any questions, feel free to come to me any time.”'']]

The Ultimate Boxer who never backs down, even to adult, professional boxers. Hajime has already won numerous titles despite his youth, and plans to take his sport to an even grander stage after graduation. He is obsessed with the health of himself and others, and resents those who do not take their health seriously.

He is the first killer, dropping Yuri off the bell tower after stabbing his legs and repeatedly scraping his body with wires. Following his trial, he divulges that he is a member of Void, revealing the existance of the group to the class. Despite being assured by Mikado that he would avoid death for his crime, he is executed anyway by being trapped in a boxing arcade game and having his head bashed in.

----
* AndIMustScream: During the Void Theater segments, he mentions how boring his new existence is as an inanimate plush doll.
* BigBrotherInstinct: Shows a bit of this towards Iroha when [[PetTheDog giving her words of encouragement]] during the Chapter 4 Void Theater Segment.
* ChickMagnet: LINUJ admits that out of all the guys in the group, Hajime is the most popular among the girls.
* CoatCape: Wears his gakuran over his shoulders, with nothing underneath. When asked, he claims it's because clothes get in the way of his training.
* CoolShades: Is always shown wearing these.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: For his execution, Hajime's body is trapped inside a pink arcade machine with only his head sticking out. Then Monocrow appears in a muscular boxer body and proceeds to punch his face; the blows continue on with each one stronger then the last. Once Hajime is killed from the multiple blows, his body is shredded from inside the machine that eventually shoots out a tiny plush toy that looks similar to the deceased boxer.
* DidntThinkThisThrough: He tranquilizes and restrains Yuri to give himself a few hours to run through his escape method before he commits the murder. The evidence left behind by these two actions later disproves the theory (which he set up) that Yoruko had killed Yuri by taking him up on his offer since, if the culprit was female, then all they needed to do was tell Yuri that they wanted to kill him and he would have willingly allowed them to do so. As a result, the class is able to narrow down the culprit as one of the boys.
* FreudianExcuse: Implied to have one, regarding his fixation on being healthy. It's said that Utsuro blessed Hajime with good health.
* GeniusBruiser: He's quite intelligent considering his elaborate murder plan and how he was able to frame Yoruko with many of the students believing it for a majority of the trial.
* GracefulLoser: After being found out as the first killer, he eventually just accepts it and confesses once he realizes that he can't think of any more rebuttals. That is, until OhCrap as seen below.
* GranolaGirl: A [[GenderInvertedTrope gender-flipped]] example. He openly cares about his personal health and always exercises to stay in tip-top shape. This becomes one of the clues that lead the others to deduce him as the culprit of the first trial.
* HandwrapsOfAwesome: Has these naturally, as the Ultimate Boxer.
* IShouldHaveBeenBetter: His dialogue in the Void Theater segments show that he regrets his actions as a Void member and hopes that his colleagues don't follow in his footsteps.
* JapaneseDelinquents: In the dark period after he was abandoned by his parents and discharged from the hospital, he fell in with a bad crowd and began smoking, drinking, taking drugs, etc. Getting into boxing pulled him out of the lifestyle.
* LovableJock: Ignoring his ties to Void, he's generally a really nice guy to everyone around him and constantly reminds them to come to him for any sort of health tips or physical training advice.
* MadeOfIron: Part of his plan involved him jumping off the bell tower with nothing but a life jacket and a rope to support himself. While the final attempt used Yuri and the wires to somewhat weigh him down, he had to do it at least once without any counterweight, trusting that his body was physically fit enough to withstand the impact.
* MeaningfulName: Hajime's last name is based on Makunouchi, a popular style of Japanese bentō containing rice and portions of fish, meat, and vegetables, which are all healthy foods, explaining its relation to Hajime's apparent obsession with health. His first name, "Hajime" means "beginning" in Japanese, referring to him starting the Killing Game with his murder of Yuri.
* NiceGuy: Affiliations with Void aside, Hajime is surprisingly one of the kinder students. This especially shines during the Void Theater segments, where he gives encouragement to Iroha in Chapter 4 and genuinely apologizes to Nikei in Chapter 5.
* OneSteveLimit: Not in-universe, but the existence of Hajime Hinata as a prominent character in the official Danganronpa games makes Hajime’s name confusing for new fans.
* ParentalAbandonment: When it became clear that his illness couldn't be cured and supporting him became too expensive, Hajime's parents abandoned him.
* PlayingDrunk: Did this at the party in Chapter One, as an alibi for Yuri's murder.
* OhCrap: His reaction when he realizes that Mikado really ''does'' intend to execute him, when he had previously been under the impression that he wouldn't be.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: At first, he's a calm and friendly fellow who gets along well with his fellow classmates. After he's been proven as Yuri's killer, along with getting an okay from [[BigBad Mikado]], he shows a darker, sadistic, and more twisted side that shakes everyone to their core and makes them realize how dangerous their situation is.
** Additionally, this plays a key point in Yuri's trial, where the fact that Hajime was supposedly drinking clues the other students that he isn't telling the truth.
* RevealingCoverUp: Using Yuri’s handbook, he sent Yuki a distress message to get him at the crime scene, witness Yuri’s murder, then find Yoruko which would then implicate her as the blacked. The problem was, as discussed during the trial, is that messaging a male classmate is something extremely out of character for Yuri, since one of his main traits is how much he hates men.
* SacrificialLion: Despite telling the Void members they would be safe from execution, Mikado has Hajime executed anyway which lets the remaining members know that they’re just as unsafe as everyone else.
* SinisterShades: His sunglasses lean more towards this after the Void reveal, especially with his eyes glowing red through the lenses.
* ShoutOut: His name might serve as a reference to the boxing manga series ''Manga/HajimeNoIppo''. His first name comes from the first word of the series' name, while the last name comes from its hero, Ippei Makunouchi.
* SignificantBirthDate: Hajime's birthday is on December 26th which is the holiday for ''Boxing Day''. [[{{JustForFun/IThoughtItMeant}} Although it involves a different type of boxing]].
* StraightManAndWiseGuy: The straight man to Emma’s wise guy in the Void Theater segments.
* SunglassesAtNight: He's never seen without his shades. LINUJ has stated the reason why is because his illnesses have left his optic nerves sensitive to light.
* TookALevelInKindness: He becomes more compassionate and sincere when interacting with his fellow ''Void'' colleagues once they're killed.
* WalkingShirtlessScene: He loosely wears his jacket over his bare chest.

[[caption-width-right:350:''“A person’s name is worth more than you think. Your name represents everything that you are.”'']]

The Ultimate Trafficker who mediates all kinds of underworld dealings. He’s a prominent figure in the criminal underbelly of society, but few are even aware of his existence as an individual. He values his confidentiality above all else and is an expert at avoiding and exploiting loopholes in the law. Despite his occupation, he does have his own form of ethics, and always completes his jobs to perfection…Unless he’s bribed. In his opinion, your life is the most important thing in the world, followed closely by money. Everything he does is based on a cost-benefit analysis: from trading to breathing, profit is always the bottom line. Overall, it is his basic nature to never act in a way that doesn’t benefit himself.

In Chapter 6, it's revealed that Syobai was originally hired by the AI Mikado to kill his human counterpart as well as kidnap the partipants for the Field Trip of Mutual Killing. However, he was hired afterwards by Tsurugi Kinjou to double-cross Mikado and sabtotage the simulation.

He survives the killing game but is arrested for his association with Mikado and Void. He manages to escape the Kisaragi Foundation with an unlikely partner in Iroha.

----
* AdaptationalJobChange: He goes from a trafficker to a ''broker'' in the English dub. Though it's downplayed since he's still involved in the criminal underworld.
* AdmiringTheAbomination: Downplayed; He doesn't care all that much about Kanade's true personality but he does seem impressed by her kill count.
* AmbiguousSituation: Based on how he thought so little of [[TheDitz Iroha]] throughout the game, it's anyone's guess as to why he decided to have her tag along with him during his prison break, and still continues to have her with him as his partner in crime in the bonus omake side story.
* AndNowForSomeoneCompletelyDifferent: After Sora gets pushed off the Tower of Babylon, Syobai takes over as the protagonist for the entirety of Chapter 4's investigation and the first half of the trial.
* ArmorPiercingQuestion: Sora gives Syobai one when she’s begging the class to go over the evidence again, which leads him to side with her:
-->'''Sora:''' I want to ask you, as the person who almost single-handedly solved this case... Are you sure we’re going to be fine ending the trial with Kanade as the culprit?
-->'''Syobai:''' ...What?
* AwesomeByAnalysis: He shows off his intellect when it comes to murder schemes and killing techniques as he helps out the group during the third trial.
* BigDamnHero: From how everything is set up, it can be inferred that Syobai was the one who shut down the simulation from the outside, thus saving the survivors from being executed in Chapter 5.
* BrilliantButLazy: Trial Three proves that he could have easily solved the previous cases with little effort. He just didn’t feel like wasting his energy getting involved since he felt that the previous cases were simple enough to solve without his help.
* CantGetAwayWithNuthin: In the epilogue, it’s revealed that Syobai was arrested and imprisoned by the Kisaragi Foundation for him aiding in Void’s plans.
* CigaretteOfAnxiety: While he won't admit it, he has a tendency to smoke when stressed out.
* CompositeCharacter: He comes off as a fusion of [[VisualNovel/DanganronpaTriggerHappyHavoc Yasuhiro Hagakure]] and [[VisualNovel/Danganronpa2GoodbyeDespair Fuyuhiko Kuzuryuu]]. Like Yasuhiro, Syobai is a MellowFellow with a scruffy appearance, a similar taste in fashion, and a selfish streak. Like Fuyuhiko, Syobai is [[FriendInTheBlackMarket directly involved in the criminal underworld]], casually makes rude remarks towards the other students, and prefers to be alone most of the time.
* CreepyShadowedUndereyes: He has this to highlight his sketchy appearance.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: When he was a boy, Syobai ended up being separated from his parents while they were visiting a country town in Southeast Asia. To make matters worse, he wound up captured and was close to [[FateWorseThanDeath being sold as a human slave]]. He managed to escape his captors, but he had to live like a [[StreetUrchin street rat]]; scraping for food and taking on the most undesirable jobs just to survive. It isn't until after Syobai discovered his calling as a professional trafficker was he able to get off the streets and make a suitable living for himself.
* DeadpanSnarker: Does this constantly.
* {{Deuteragonist}}: He ends up driving the plot just as much as Sora does, even becoming playable for most of chapter 4’s Deadly Life.
* DoubleAgent: The 6th chapter confirms that this was Syobai's role in the game. Originally, he was hired by Alter Ego Mikado to kill his real self along with kidnapping the participants for the game. Later, he would be bribed by Tsurugi to tamper with the killing game in order for the Kisaragi Foundation to intervene.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: When encountered in the prologue, he [[WhatsInItForMe refuses to tell Sora and Yuki his name or talent unless they pay him]], [[ScrewThisImOuttaHere then leaves]].
* FirstPersonSmartass: If you thought Sora’s thoughts could be snarky, Syobai’s blow hers far out of the water.
* FiveFingerDiscount: When they reach the second island, Sora catches him stealing Crow Cards from an abandoned house.
* GreatDetective: Despite being a criminal, he more than proves himself to be this as he uses the knowledge he’s gained from his work and experiences in the criminal underworld to break down and solve the cases with relative ease.
* {{Greed}}: His main motivations always amount to how much money he can profit for himself in a given situation. He also likes to save money and dislikes spending it.
* HeyYou: Rather than actually learning their names, Syobai refers to the students based on their profession or by condescending characteristic. (Ex. Calling Iroha 'Artist' or 'Airhead').
* IAmWhatIAm: In his free time events, he acknowledges himself as trash and encourages Sora to keep away from a guy like him if she wants to live a decent life.
* ILied: During the Case One investigation, Syobai tells Sora that he saw Yoruko heading to the bell tower with a rope shortly before the murder occurred. However, when Sora attempts to use this evidence in the trial, Kokoro says that Syobai is lying because she saw him on the ship at the time he supposedly saw Yoruko on land. Syobai then admits he made the whole thing up just to see if anyone could tell if he was lying or not.
* InSeriesNickname: In the Free Time Events, Sora refers to him as "Trashimoto".
* InformedAbility: LINUJ revealed on [=PasteBin=] that Syobai can speak 20 languages.
* ItsWhatIDo: Whenever someone is shocked about something awful that he’s doing, a common response of his is to question why they’re so surprised that he ([[FriendInTheBlackMarket the]] Ultimate [[ProfessionalKiller Trafficker]]) is doing something bad.
* IWorkAlone: Refuses to integrate himself into the rest of the students, spends most of his time alone, and does his investigating by himself. He does actually work with the others during Trial 3 and 4, but it's mainly because his life is also on the line.
* {{Jerkass}}: He's a self-serving jerk who rarely cares about others or the situation they're in. When Syobai learned from Monocrow that a student needed to kill another student to leave the island, his first instinct was to try to stab Yuki.
** After he finds the key to the storage room in the Towel of Babel, he refuses to let the others have access to it and forces them to pay for the food inside.
** In Chapter 5, he knocks out Sora and ties her up after taking her shirt off. Thankfully, he only did it to double-check a scar he had noticed on her stomach earlier but it was still a messed up thing for him to do.
* JerkassHasAPoint:
** He keeps Yoruko from covering Kokoro's half-naked corpse with a fur coat claiming that doing so could tamper with the crime scene which would hinder their investigation.
** In the chapter four scrum debate, one side argues that Nikei shouldn’t be considered the murderer because he had no intent to murder. Syobai says that even if Nikei had no intention of murder, he would still be the blackened if his hand was forced to do the crime because if “intent to murder” was taken into consideration then the result of the previous case would have just been Kanade as the sole culprit.
* JerkWithAHeartOfJerk: Syobai becomes more active in the third class trial and provides useful and game-changing evidence. He claims to do this because his own life is on the line and he'll be damned if the other students get him executed for not using their brains.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold:
** That being said he isn’t completely heartless as he patches up Sora when he stabs her, hangs around until she wakes up to check on her and tells her his name as an apology… it’s very downplayed but he still sort of has a heart of gold deep down.
** In Trial Three, while everyone else is on the fence about Sora's claim that they need to continue the case further since she feels like something's wrong, Syobai immediately sides with her and tells the others to do as she says.
** Even with Mikado desperately promising to give him anything he wants, Syobai choses to shut down his consiousness transfer and switch it to Yuki's consiousness instead, preventing him from escaping into the real world with the Divine Luck.
* TheKilljoy: He shows up at the end of Hibiki and Kanade’s concert just to complain about everyone making too much noise.
* LaserGuidedKarma: In the epilogue, he's imprisoned by the Kisaragi Foundation for helping Mikado organize his killing game aswell as kidnapping the Hopes of the Next Generation. Although he does manage to escape with Iroha as his partner.
* LaughingMad: Inverted. When Yoruko’s comment gives him a breakthrough on the [[TwoDunIt true culprit]] of Case Three, he begins laughing like a maniac. It’s enough to make Teruya think that he’s lost his mind.
* LazyBum: For the first two cases anyway. He spends most of Trial One sleeping, and Trial Two mentally working out his business deals instead of getting involved.
* LonersAreFreaks: He prefers to keep to himself rather than engage with the overall group.
* MeaningfulName: His name may refer to the similar-sounding term "shōbai", meaning "trade" or "business" which is a nod to his talent as the Ultimate Trafficker.
* TheMedic: Unintentionally fills this role as he's the only one among the group with sufficient medical knowledge.
* MessyHair: His hair is a tangled mess of curls, fitting his general disheveled appearance. It's a bit more neat in his appearance outside the simulation.
* MoralSociopathy: Syobai, is by all means, a textbook sociopath. [[NobleDemon However, he still has a moral code he stands by, refusing to give away confidential information about his clients unless they’re dead or he has to in order to save just bottom line, and in general doesn’t desire to hurt anyone unless it personally benefits him]]. While he lacks the ability to care for others, Syobai knows how awful he is and outright tells Sora to avoid associating with him if she cares about her own life during his Free Time Events.
* TheNicknamer: Although his are a lot more mean-spirited than Setsuka's.
* NobleDemon: After accidentally stabbing Sora while trying to attack Yuki, and realizing that doing so wasn't going to be enough to leave the island, Syobai makes it up to her by patching up her wound and revealing his name and talent.
** He also admits that he has a personal creed he follows where he refuses to give away any information that pertains to his clients regarding business deals. The only time he'd ever break that creed would be if the client is deceased or if his own life was on the line.
* NotAfraidToDie: Even after Teruya holds a gun to his face, Syobai doesn't have a trace of fear and even taunts him throughout the ordeal.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: Syobai expresses genuine concern and worry during the third trial after Kanade points out several flaws in his theories that marked her as the culprit.
* PragmaticVillainy: Whenever he does something good or refuses to do something bad, it’s usually because he’s trying to save his own neck.
* ProfessionalKiller: Syobai admits that he has been paid to kill people before. He's done it so many times that he became numb to the experience. Chapter 6 reveals that the real life Mikado was one of his victims.
* RecurringElement: In an unconventional way, Syobai can be considered the ''Solitary Protector'' of the group given how he becomes of help in the later trials and is implied to have rescued everyone from Trial 5's mass execution.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: During Chapter 5, Syobai somehow logs out of the simulation, making him absent for the entirety of the class trial.
** In the 6th trial, he's the first person to vote and choose the "Graduate" option just so he can leave.
** Once Mikado is defeated, he’s the first to leave the Neo World Program for good.
* SharpDressedMan: In the real world, he's shown to look and dress quite professionally. A sharp contrast to his sloppy appearance in the virtual world.
* ShootingSuperman: In Chapter 1, he tries to ambush [[EvilSorcerer Mikado]] but ends up outclassed by the wizard's fire magic. He survived with only some burns and bruises thanks to Monocrow showing up and stopping their fight.
* SirSwearsALot: Swears more than any of the other characters.
* SleepyHead: A trait of his early on, with a highlight being him ''sleeping through the first trial''. At one point, Sora finds him in the hallway and tries to talk to him. When he doesn’t respond, she realizes that he’s fallen asleep standing up.
* {{Slimeball}}: This is his core personality; it also helps that he's involved in the criminal underworld. His tone of voice in the dub even makes him sound like the type.
* TheSociopath: While he does have some [[NobleDemon redeeming qualities, those qualities are specific to his very immoral line of work]], and has a complete [[LackOfEmpathy Lack of Empathy]] for anyone besides himself, being perfectly willing to con or kill anyone for personal benefit. While he can be helpful at times, it’s only if his own life is at stake. The only real positive thing you can say about him is that he’s at least honest about how terrible he is, but that doesn’t make him any less sociopathic. Although, it is clear that he wasn’t always this way, and it’s heavily implied that his disregard for human life is a result of being forced into crime at a young age just to make a proper living. After resorting to murder, extortion, and illegal trafficking for so long, he’s been numbed to the experience and has no qualms about it anymore, although his personal moral creed still remains.
* SpearCounterpart: Regarding appearance, he bears a lot of similarities towards Sora the protagonist as they both wear white outfits which contain minor shades of black, red ties and have gray colored hair. He even gets to fill in as the POV protagonist for a majority of Chapter 4 in her absence.
* TheStoic: Has a dark past and has spent most of his life as working in the criminal underworld (which he isn't proud of), but you wouldn’t be able to tell it by his [[MellowFellow usual demeanor.]]
* SurroundedByIdiots: Views himself as this, as he makes it ''very'' clear to everyone.
-->'''Syobai:''' “Unbelievable. How the hell did you guys even survive two of these?”
* ThrowTheDogABone:
** In Trial Six, he tells Yuki that everything will be alright and to hang in there during the latter's freakout over how hopeless the situation feels.
* TragicVillain: Sora considers him to be this at the end of his Free Time Events. While he is a self-serving jerk who has no issue dealing in the criminal underworld, he at least acknowledges that his profession isn't something he's proud of and he has some redeeming qualities. And then there's his [[DarkAndTroubledPast backstory]] that explains how he became a trafficker, through ''horrifying'' circumstances.
* UsedToBeASweetKid: {{Downplayed}}. LINUJ claims that while Syobai was more innocent as a child compared to his present self, he wasn't as playful or talkative as expected of this trope.
* WhatsInItForMe: He refuses to cooperate, or even give out something as simple as his name, unless he's given something in return.
* WhatTheHellHero: He chews out Sora for withholding that she knew about the pool gate records, especially since Monocrow was just about to initiate voting.
* WillTalkForAPrice: He almost never gives away any information unless he’s paid first, which even extends to his free time events.
* WorthyOpponent:
** Syobai takes a strong liking to Sora because of her backbone and silver tongue; he even offers her a position as his assistant if they escape the killing game.
** He views Kanade as this during trial three, complimenting her intelligence and thanking her for providing him with such a challenge.
* WouldHitAGirl:
** In Chapter 3, he threatens to rip off Iroha's head if she didn't lend him her E-handbook to test.
** In Chapter 5 he knocks out Sora and ties her up.
* YoungerThanHeLooks: His exhausted eyebags and beard make him look much older when in truth he's actually a teenager. {{Subverted}} with the reveal that he's actually in his ''thirties''.

The Ultimate Firefighter who became the youngest known member of his field thanks to his immense physical strength and sense of justice. He is a bit older than his current classmates due to a major accident that left him hospitalized, but he was permitted to continue attending Hope’s Peak now that he has recovered. He is a passionate man who gives his all no matter what, but his weakness for women often reduces him to a bashful mess.

Is the victim of Chapter 4, having committed suicide to prevent Yuki, Sora or Nikei from becoming the blackened.

----
* BigBrotherInstinct: Fills this role to Yuki and even tells him to call him 'Big Bro'.
* BigBrotherMentor: He takes Yuki under his wing and spends a lot of time physically training him in hopes that he can help build up his strength and confidence.
* TheBigGuy: The largest student among the cast. It also helps that he's slightly older since he never finished high school.
* BigGuyFatalitySyndrome: As the game's muscular character, it's no surprise that he doesn't survive the Killing Game. And unlike the previous game's instance, he follows the stereotype further by dying in Chapter 4.
* BookDumb: He's the Ultimate in his field but according to LINUJ, he has the second lowest grades in the class, just above [[TheDitz Iroha]].
* CannotTalkToWomen: He becomes really bashful whenever he's talking to a girl. He evidently got over it later in his life, considering that the real life Shinji is a married father over 50.
* CareerEndingInjury: He was never really a Hope's Peak student, but the accident that hospitalized him effectively ended his career as a firefighter. After he recovered, he got married and started a new career as a security guard. Somewhat subverted as, during the Tragedy, he started leading a group that rescued people.
* CompositeCharacter: He comes off as a fusion of [[VisualNovel/Danganronpa2GoodbyeDespair Nekomaru Nidai]] and [[VisualNovel/DanganronpaV3KillingHarmony Kaito Momota]]. Like Nekomaru, he's the designated [[TheBigGuy Big Guy]] of the group with NoIndoorVoice who tries to stay physically fit. And much like Kaito, he takes Yuki, the insecure male lead with IdiotHair, under his wing in the hopes of making him stronger. And just like the two guys, Shinji tries to encourage everyone to [[ThePowerOfFriendship work together as friends so they can overcome any adversity]].
* DeathByIrony: A firefighter being burned alive by fire. Who'd have thought?
* {{Determinator}}: One of his main traits.
* DumbMuscle: He’s strong but not the brightest, and easily gets confused the more complex a trial is.
* EtTuBrute: He's crushed when Hajime is revealed to be Yuri's killer along with being a member of the terrorist group ''Void''.
* {{Expy}}: LINUJ admitted that Shinji's character is based on [[{{Anime/TengenToppaGurrenLagann}} the one and only Kamina]].
* FaceDeathWithDignity: Shinji goes through with his fiery death without regret knowing that he'll be able to save his friends from facing execution.
* TheFarmerAndTheViper: When Yuki says that he still isn't sure if they can trust Nikei, Shinji scolds him and says that their situation won't change unless they all work together. Ultimately, Nikei ends up being the one to mastermind his death (with his goal being Yuki's death too).
* FatalFlaw: His idealism. While his belief in ThePowerOfFriendship does help to keep the group together at times, it just as often comes back to bite him in the ass. He works hard to defend Hajime in trial one, only to learn that he was indeed the blackened and gets knocked out via a throat punch by him. His unwavering belief in Nikei’s apparent HeelFaceTurn ends in his death, as well as Yuki being scapegoated for the crime after he expressed concern to him that Nikei wasn’t entirely trustworthy.
* FieryRedhead: Fits this to a T. [[{{Pun}} He even has the talent to match!]]
* FreudianExcuse: Shinji’s parents divorced when he was very young and he went to live with his father and brother, leaving him with no memories of his mother. Later, when he became a firefighter, he went to work with his uncle in an all-male crew. Knowing this, it’s much more understandable why Shinji’s so shy around the female students since it’s genuinely the first time that he’s ever been around girls in his life.
* GivingSomeoneThePointerFinger: One of his yelling sprites has him doing this.
* GoodScarsEvilScars: He's a definite good guy and he has a huge burn mark across his back after getting into a major accident.
* GutFeeling: Even after being betrayed by Hajime, the firefighter believes that Hajime, along with the other Void members, was not as evil as he made himself out to be. He bases this on the fact that Hajime could have easily killed him with a single blow at the end of the trial yet his blow was soft enough to leave him unconscious.
* HeldBackInSchool: After he was originally accepted as a Hope's Peak student, he was injured in a firefighting rescue and had to spend some time recuperating in the hospital. Following his release, he was still allowed to attend Hope's Peak despite being significantly older than he was when he was originally recruited.
* HeroicSacrifice: After being attacked by Nikei, Yuki, and Sora, he willingly starts a fire that burns down the Tower of Babylon and himself with it, all to prevent anyone from becoming the blackened.
* HopelessWithTech: Shinji has a hard time following along when it comes to talking about advanced technology.
* HotBlooded: Is very passionate about everyone working together, and often yells about how if the class is determined enough and gives it their all, then they'll be able to escape. There is a downside to this as it tends to lead to him jumping to conclusions during the trials, such as blindly accusing [[TokenEvilTeammate Mikado or Syobai]] of being the culprit without any evidence whatsoever.
* TheIdealist: In Chapter 2, Shinji adopts a more optimistic mentality in the hopes that doing so will result in the defeat of ''Void''.
* ImpromptuTracheotomy: Yuki slashes Shinj's throat with a glass shard when he mistakenly thinks he's about to attack him. After Yuki runs off, Sora slashes his throat again using an unconsious Nikei's hand and the dropped shard.
* ItsAllMyFault: During his time as a firefighter, he underestimated the severity of a fire he rushed into and had to be rescued by his uncle. He managed to get Shinji to safety but died in the fire, which caused Shinji to lose some of the passion he had for his career since he felt that his uncle died because of him.
* LuminescentBlush: Has one that takes up most of his face whenever he talks to any of the female characters.
* MadeOfIron: Having his throat slit ''twice'' isn't enough to kill him.
* MoralityChain: At the end of the fourth trial, Mikado boasts how Shinji was the only person who was keeping Yuki from falling into total despair. And now that he's gone via suicide, Yuki has reached the peak of despair and is close to his re-awakening as ''Utsuro''.
* NoIndoorVoice: He shouts practically everything he says.
* NoJustNoReaction: When Mikado muses about how Kanade would have made a good Void member, Shinji calmly asks him to stop because he’s too exhausted to yell at him.
-->'''Mikado:''' Kanade… What a person she was. Now that’s a person who I call worthy of being a Void. I really do hope that the other remaining two learn a thing or two from her.
-->'''Shinji:''' … I honestly don’t have the strength to yell at you… Just leave us be…
* NumberOneDime: You see that flower on his necklace? It's actually a dandelion that was given to him as a thank you present from a child he rescued long ago. He carries the token with him as a reminder for what he's fighting for.
* OlderThanHeLooks: Chapter 6 reveals that Shinji is actually in his ''fifties'' and is a married man with teenage kids.
* OneOfTheKids: Despite being college-aged, he fits in well with his teenage classmates. This could be a result of him not being the smartest.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: In Chapter 3, his expression turns more serious and stern when he explains why he can't give up his positive demeanor.
* PerpetualSmiler: Shinji is always showing some form of a smile, even when he's expressing something that says otherwise.
** This trope becomes enforced and discussed in Chapter 3. As a firefighter, it's his duty to provide comfort and protection to the victims he's saving. And while he himself may feel anxious or scared, he can't dare show any weaknesses while protecting those in need. That's why he always needs to be smiling; not just for his sake, but for the sake of everyone around him.
* RasputinianDeath: First, Shinji survives getting his throat slit twice. He then tries repeatedly throwing himself into the machinery surrounding him to kill himself, which also fails. What finally finishes him off is the fire resulting from the broken machinery, which Shinji willingly allows to consume him.
* ScaryTeeth: His teeth look like they belong on a shark.
* SelfImmolation: After him destroying the machines sets the room on fire, Shinji allows the flames to consume him so that his death will be ruled a suicide.
* SenselessSacrifice: While he did manage to prevent someone becoming the blackened ultimately his class trial still resulted in Nikei being executed due to breaking the rules.
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: The manly man to Yuki's sensitive guy.
* SillyRabbitCynicismIsForLosers: Along with adopting an optimistic approach, he also forces everyone to accept this mentality so that everyone can be friends and no one will be doubted.
* SuddenlyShouting: He’s prone to doing this due to his HotBlooded attitude.
* TokenAdult: He's slightly older than the rest of the students and would be a college student if it weren't for his injury.
* TooGoodForThisSinfulEarth: Nikei almost word-for-word refers to Shinji as this, when he explains the [[HeroicSacrifice reason for his suicide]].
* TragicBromance: His death is what truly begins Yuki’s descent into despair and his eventual awakening as Utsuro.
* TraumaButton: He spaces out when he sees snow. This is because it was snowing during the day that several of his friends and coworkers were severely hurt while on duty. Shinji blames himself for their injuries believing that he could have done something to help them.

A young man of Russian and Japanese parentage, he is the only son of the prestigious Kagarin family. Groomed from an early age to inherit the powerhouse of the astrological industry, he is poised to become an astronaut in a few years, though he does not seem to be particularly interested in that. Having been treated like the prince of the Kagarin family for all of his life, he has experienced little of the world and faced very few adversities. As a self-described "being that exists solely for women", he is chivalrous and generous towards his female classmates (though he hates men), but his devotion to women typically crosses over into the extreme, and as a result, he is often seen as a pervert.

He is the first victim of the Killing Game, dragged up the inside of a bell tower rigged with wires, by a meat hook stabbed into his leg, and then dropped back down.

----
* AwesomeBackpack: It's shaped like a rocket ship.
* BigEater: Has a big appetite, according to LINUJ. He's also notably one of the first to start helping themselves to Mikado's food, while everyone else is still discussing if it's even safe to eat.
* BlueAndOrangeMorality: The only goal in life Yuri has is to be remembered as a saviour by a woman, even if it means he has to die in order for it to happen. He does not care about anything else.
* BoomerangBigot: Despises men... yet is one himself. Naturally, this is often lampshaded by the other characters.
* ButNotTooForeign: He has Russian ancestry but his design is similar to the other guys who are fully Japanese.
* CasanovaWannabe: He tries his hardest to appeal to the girls as a true gentleman. Unfortunately, he tries too hard and he ends up disgusting them.
* CharacterFilibuster: Yuri's free time events involve him talking with Sora non-stop about his many adventures and various kidnappings. She ends up bored and fed up with his insistence on making himself look great.
* ChivalrousPervert: Pesters the girls constantly but does tell Sora that he'd never be thoughtless enough to touch one without being given permission.
* CrazyJealousGuy: A one-sided, played-for-laughs version, as he tends to get upset when there's any implied attration between the female students and the male ones:
-->'''Sora:''' "By the way, I ran into Syobai on my way here."
-->'''Yoruko:''' "Again? You've been seeing him a lot. Is there something going on between you two?"
-->'''Yuri:''' "There is no such relationship. I won't allow it."
** When the rest of the class shows up to cheer on Yuki during his LoveConfession in Sora's fantasy world, Setsuka and Shinji have to work together to hold Yuri back from attacking him.
* DidntThinkThisThrough: To achieve his big dream, he makes a public declaration that any of the girls can kill him and threatens the boys with bodily harm if they even attempt to ask him about it. Yuri never realizes that his offer makes him an incredibly enticing victim to a male would-be killer since, in the case of his potential murder, it would be generally assumed that the culprit was female. Naturally, Hajime decides to kill Yuri following his announcement and takes complete advantage of this flaw for part of his alibi.
* DiesWideOpen: And '''right before your eyes''', no less.
* DistressedDude: He's been kidnapped more than 37 times because of his wealthy background.
* DoesNotLikeMen: A rare [[GenderInvertedTrope gender-flipped]] example. He apparently never grew out of this as an adult as he throws a hissy fit when he catches a male reporter hiding among the women reporters in his press conference.
* DrunkenGlow: Is depicted with this in the Chapter One Closing Argument as he gets drunk at the party and Hajime leads him away to murder him.
* TheDulcineaEffect: He barely knows any of his female classmates but due to his dream, he’s already willing to be a murder victim to any of them if it means that they can escape. The thing that pushes him to offer his life is the sight of Hibiki crying about wanting to go home.
* ExoticEyeDesigns: He has literal stars in his eyes.
* {{Expy}}: His pale hair and green jacket along with his rich background and self-righteous attitude among his classmates makes him similar to [[VisualNovel/Danganronpa2GoodbyeDespair Nagito Komaeda]].
* GratuitousRussian: He has a habit of slipping Russian words in his speech.
* GroinAttack: On the receiving end from Sora during the bonus bathing scene of Chapter 1. [[TooKinkyToTorture He actually enjoys it.]]
* {{Guyliner}}: He is the only male character in the cast with big, lower lashes.
* HatesTheJobLovesTheLimelight: Yuri honestly doesn't care about being an astronaut and only chose the job to please his father. It's downplayed with the latter part since he uses it to help boost his image among the girls.
* IGotBigger: Compared to the others, he has the most notable difference between his teenage and adult self, having grown much taller and become quite muscular.
* InformedAbility: LINUJ has stated that Yuri is quite clever and that his intelligence is on-par with Kokoro, Kanade and Syobai. The reveal of his part in the creation of Monocrow, among other things, in Chapter 6 probably gives a good idea of what was meant by this.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: As Hibiki is crying due to stress/homesickness, he cheerfully tells her that she shouldn’t cry because it will give her wrinkles.
* ItsAllAboutMe: The stories he tells to Sora in his free time events are mainly about how great he is and how his life is full of adventure.
* LoveMartyr: In Chapter 1, he openly declares that he'll allow any of the female students to kill him if they wished to escape. This comes from his desire of being immortalized as the one who ''saved'' the girl in allowing them to live on.
* MajorInjuryUnderreaction: He's described as "speaking casually" to Sora, while there's a huge hook embedded in one calf and he's bleeding out a gaping wound in the other one.
* NakedPeopleAreFunny: ''He has a completely naked sprite.''
* NamedAfterSomebodyFamous: Yuri's name is a reference to Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, who is known for being the first human to journey into outer space in 1961.
* NothingLeftToDoButDie: Says that although he’s only a teenager, he feels that he’s done everything he’s needed to do and that the only thing left is for him to [[HeroicSacrifice achieve his dream.]]
* NotAfraidToDie: If it's for the sake of a woman.
* NotLikeOtherGuys: He even refers to himself as this at one point.
-->'''Yuri:''' "Tsk... This is why I'm different from dirty males like you."
* OlderThanTheyLook: While investigating an AV room during Chapter 5, Sora comes across a video of an interview featuring a significantly older Yuri.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: Brought up during the trial for his murder where it's pointed out how unlikely it would be for Yuri, an extreme misandrist, to send a distress message to Yuki, a male classmate. This leads to the hypothesis that the distress message wasn't sent by him.
* PleaseKillMeIfItSatisfiesYou: Offers Hibiki the opportunity to kill him so she can escape, then extends the offer to the rest of the girls for the same reason.
* SignificantBirthDate: In reference to his talent, Yuri's birthday, April 12, marks the International Day of Human Space Flight.
* SmallRoleBigImpact: He has a relatively minor presence in the game. But in Chapter 6, we learn that he created Monocrow, whose real name is Yuri, and had a huge hand in creating virtual simulations.
* SpoiledBrat: Having everything handed to him as a child, Yuri is quite arrogant and self-righteous.
* TechnoWizard: While this doesn't apply to the Yuri featured in the Killing Game, this does fit the real-world Yuri as he developed and created the AI that would eventually become Monocrow.
* TinySchoolboy: Is the shortest of the male students, at 153 cm.
* VocalDissonance: When you first see how cute and small he is, you're definitely not expecting him to sound like....''that''.
* VodkaDrunkenski: As the one student with Russian heritage, Yuri already has a fondness for alcohol which he demonstrates at the party by getting completely intoxicated.
* WrongGenreSavvy: Tells Mikado that his Killing Game is inherently flawed since the motives are too weak to inspire anyone to murder, unaware that Mikado has minions that he can order to murder when necessary.

A young man who dresses like a stage magician, wears a bizarre mask, and claims to be the Ultimate Wizard. Since no one has actually seen him performing magic combined with his unspeaking nature, everyone finds it impossible to get a read on him.

Or at least, that was supposed to be his character, had he not been [[BreakingOldTrends exposed as the Mastermind right at the beginning of the game]]. Despite this revelation, Mikado continues to remain a participant with the others, while explaining what he can and attempting to bond with his unwilling classmates. His demeanor also changes, as he becomes much more talkative and playful, although he is often distressed by the constant verbal abuse he receives. Even with this, he still makes it very clear to everyone that he’s the one running the Killing Game and if they must suffer or die for him to reach his goal, then so be it.

He is the killer of Chapter Five, poisioning Teruya and tricking Iroha into thinking she did it, which successfully leads to an incorrect vote.

In Chapter 0, it is revealed that the Mikado in the killing game is actually an AI developed by and based on the ''real'' Mikado Sannoji, a criminal hacker who was killed long ago by his counterpart. He is defeated in Trial Six when Syobai overrides his consciousness being transfered to Akane Taira's body and ceases to exist after the virtual world is erased.

----
* AdmiringTheAbomination: As horrified as he is by Kanade's true nature, he does say that the remaining Void members could stand to learn a thing or two from her.
* AIIsACrapshoot: Alter Ego Mikado is responsible for the kidnapping and deaths of a majority of the Hopes of the Next Generation as well as organizing the assassination of his creators.
* AllForNothing: Created the Killing Game in order to resurect Utsuro and steal his Divine Luck. In Chapter Six, it's revealed that Utsuro lost the Divine Luck long before the game began.
* AmbitionIsEvil: He was originally created as an AI based on the human Mikado, but at some point, he gained self-awareness and decided to take on his creator’s goal of meeting Utsuro. From there, he hired a hitman to get rid of his creator, took over his plans, and met the Children of Utsuro and convinced them to hand over leadership to him. Somewhere along the line, he decided to steal Utsuro’s divine luck for himself and developed the Killing Game as a way to escape into the real world after doing so. In order to get them to agree to his plan, he lied to the Void members about how they wouldn’t face death if they participated.
* AssholeVictim: He's purposefully ignored and insulted by the other students whenever they get together for group discussions. It's also hard to feel sorry for him when you remember he is a CardCarryingVillain.
* AxCrazy: When the virtual simulation ends up crashing, the AI begins to behave erratically and shoots anyone that disturbs him with his fire power.
* BadassCape: He has a large foreboding cape. In Chapter 6 now has a glitchy theme inside that's similar to [[VisualNovel/DanganronpaV3KillingHarmony Kaito's jacket]].
* BadassInDistress: In Chapter 4 he's tied up [[MrFanservice in only his underwear]] and at the mercy of an enraged Teruya.
* BadBoss: Let's just say that Mikado certainly isn't winning any "Best Boss" awards anytime soon. He lied to Hajime saying that he would be spared execution if he were to murder someone, yet allows him to be executed anyways. When the other Void members called Mikado out on this, he justified himself saying that killing without accepting the possibility of death would give no meaning to their agenda. Even if this is accepted, [[KickTheDog he generally seems to enjoy going the extra mile to rub more salt in his cohorts' wounds before they're executed]], and his threatening insistence towards a visibly terrified Iroha to become the next blackened, complete with grabbing her by the hair, definitely cements him as this.
** Nikei later emphasizes how Mikado sees the ''Void'' members as pawns for him to play and discard at his will, something his actions definitely reflect. This is perhaps at its worst in Chapter 5, where he plotted with Iroha to assist her in murdering Teruya, and he if course makes sure to remind her that [[YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness she's no longer of use to him]] once the trial has concluded and she's begging for her life... only for the vote for her to be ''incorrect'', at which point he reveals he was the real killer all along, and that Iroha's "murder", including her belief she was the blackened and consequently being terrified for her life, was basically an elaborate cover-up for his murder. He used the life of his final Void member to get everyone besides him executed.
* TheBadGuyWins: For the first time in a Danganronpa work, Mikado stands out as the ''first'' killer/mastermind who was able to murder someone and get everyone else executed. Although it's subverted as the simulation crashes and the remaining classmates are logged out of the killing game.
* BigBad: He's the main antagonist and self-proclaimed protagonist that the students have to face.
* BlackEyesOfCrazy: Once Mikado is revealed as an AI in Chapter 6, he gains black sclera and [[RedEyesTakeWarning red irises]], making him look much more overtly menacing.
* BreakingOldTrends: Unlike previous Masterminds he’s revealed as the mastermind from the beginning of the game.
* CantKillYouStillNeedYou: As much as Mikado loathes Iroha Nijiue due to her incompetence as a Void member, he still considers her to be the only underling he can count on to fulfill their agenda.
* ConvenientlyAnOrphan: In Chapter 0 Kokoro claims that Mikado grew up in an orphanage as a child.
* CosmicMotifs: His design features suns prominently. A lot of his magical attacks are also shown to be fire-based, adding to his solar theme.
* CreateYourOwnVillain: In a strange twist, the Mikado from the real world created an Alter Ego who was based on him. This would backfire spectacularly as the AI would hijack his plans to resurrect Utsuro and would perform a long list of atrocities to obtain their personal goals.
* DeadAllAlong: His real-world self was killed by his Alter Ego before the events of the game.
* TheDragon: He admits that he's only a pawn serving under the Greater Evil that is ''Utsuro''. Subverted later on when he reveals that he intended to betray Utsuro.
* EnfantTerrible: When he was a boy, he was rescued from a burning orphanage thanks to Utsuro's divine luck. This prompted Mikado to ''burn down'' another orphanage in the hopes of seeing him again.
* EtTuBrute: Somewhat [[DownplayedTrope downplayed]]; When Nikei announces to everyone that he’s a Void member and joins them, Mikado’s more upset with him for throwing a wrench in his plans than anything. The fourth post-trial has Mikado reveal that he actually ''expected'' this, as he could tell from the first time they met that Nikei would betray him one day.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: It says something when even the mastermind of the Killing Game is horrified by the reveal of just how depraved [[{{Yandere}} Kanade]] really is... even though his plans for Yuki are [[{{Hypocrite}} actually somewhat similar]] to her efforts to control Hibiki.
* EvilDoppelganger: Surprisingly averted; LINUJ has said that if the human Mikado had been in control as originally intended, he would have made the exact same choices that his AI made in the actual game.
* EvilIsPetty: Built a robot replica of Nikei just to beat up whenever he felt like it.
* EvilSorcerer: He's more than willing to use his dark magic to dispose of anyone who stands in the way of his plans.
* ExpressiveMask: His mask is able to portray different emotions as he's speaking.
* {{Expy}}: Of [[VisualNovel/Danganronpa2GoodbyeDespair Alter Ego Junko Enoshima]]. Right down to wanting to take over (one of) the survivors' bodies so he can escape into the real world.
* FauxAffablyEvil: He maintains a polite and friendly demeanor when interacting with the other students. But he always makes it clear that he has an agenda to run which will involve their suffering and potential death as a result.
* FrozenFace: In contrast to his [[ExpressiveAccessory expressive mask]], his real face always displays a neutral expression.
* TheGadfly: Mikado takes pleasure in annoying the other students.
* GoKartingWithBowser: Attempts to invoke this with the others. Even though he's outed as the Mastermind right at the begining, Mikado insists to the rest of the class that they should treat him as just another student and tries to hang out with them throughout the game. Unsuprisingly, nobody follows along with this.
* GrandTheftMe: His grand plan was to resurrect Utsuro in order to steal his ''Divine Luck'' and then go into the real world with Sora's body.
* HatedByAll: It's made apparent very early on that no one wants to be near Mikado. Sora even thinks that Syobai is better than him by comparison.
* {{Hypocrite}}: While even ''he'' seems [[EvenEvilHasStandards somewhat rattled]] by Kanade at the end of Chapter 3, he's attempting to do the same thing -- mentally breaking a chosen victim by killing off everybody around them in an effort to gain complete control over them for personal gain -- in a much smaller time frame. The main difference is that Mikado does it so he can obtain the power of Divine Luck for himself, whereas Kanade wants to make Hibiki utterly dependent on her for everything and [[{{Sadist}} gets off on seeing her suffer]] as an added bonus.
* ILied: While the end of Trial One hints at it, the secret Void meeting in the beginning of Chapter Two confirms that he lied to the other Void members about being guaranteed safety for their participation in the game.
* ITakeOffenseToThatLastOne: With all the abuse slung his way, what seems to upset Mikado the most is the others insulting his cooking.
* ItsAllAboutMe: In the Tower of Babel, after Shinji and the gang manage to knock out Teruya, get the gun from him and take him hostage, all Mikado cares about is whether someone's going to untie him or not.
** Also his reaction to Shinji's death after he's been released at last:
-->'''Mikado:''' Ah, finally the sweet taste of freedom! It's a pity that our dear Shinji died, but apart from that, I'm feeling amazing.
* JerkWithAHeartOfJerk: His [[FauxAffablyEvil seemingly friendly and silly personality]], along with any and all acts of decency he does, are shown to be completely hollow and insincere. His only commitment [[ItsAllAboutMe is to himself]] and he'd use or kill anyone to get what he wants.
* KansasCityShuffle: Nikei warns everyone that Mikado is skilled with this, and that you can never predict his next move. He poisons Teruya's food in Chapter 5 and then gives Iroha a fake poison and orders her to "murder" Teruya with it. This gambit successfully tricks everyone into incorrectly voting Iroha as the killer, setting them all up to be executed by Monocrow for it.
* KickTheDog: After Nikei's gun explodes and turns him into a whimpering mess, Mikado wastes no time in mocking him and saying how pathetic it was for him to try and ruin his plans.
* LaserGuidedKarma: In the fourth trial, Nikei loses his right hand due to his gun exploding to which Mikado mocks him for. After Sora reawakens from her HeroicBSOD, the Alter Ego would have his right hand injured thanks to Tsurugi shooting him.
** He's an [=AI=] that [[TurnedAgainstTheirMasters killed his own creators]]. He's ultimately defeated and his plans are ruined largely thanks to Sora, an [=AI=] he created.
*** Similarly, he hired a hitman to get rid the human Mikado. Said hitman is the one who ultimately performs the final step needed to stop his consciousness being transfered.
* MetaGuy: Some of his dialogue is quite self-referential and has him breaking the fourth wall.
-->'''Sora:''' (I decided to ignore him)
-->'''Mikado:''' I haven’t even said anything yet!
* MrExposition: Naturally does this since he's the one in charge of the Killing Game and the one who has any idea as to what's really going on.
* NearVillainVictory: After successfully framing Iroha for Case Five, he comes incredibly close to winning the Killing Game and executing the remaining students. The only thing that stops him is Syobai crashing the simulation.
* NightmareFace: Pulls off quite a number of these when he has his darker moments. In Chapter 6, once he is revealed as a villainous AI, he gains {{Black Eyes of Crazy}}, dark cracks all over his face, rainbow-colored glitches where his mask used to be, and overall becomes much more expressive, making him almost as prone to this trope as ''Kanade''.
* NoSenseOfPersonalSpace: Isn't afraid to get up close and personal when instilling fear among his subordinates.
* NoSocialSkills:A villainous example. He does not understand why people hate him for creating the killing game. Outside of that, he is inappropriately friendly to the people he's trapped in said killing game, and surprised that the other Voids are mad at him for executing Hajime Makunochi. No wonder he's so offended by everyone ditching him.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: His goofy and playful demeanor instantly vanishes when Teruya regains his memories after seeing a photo of his classmates, heavily hinting that someone is interfering with his agenda.
* PassiveAggressiveKombat: He often lapses into this as a way of needling the students.
* PerpetualExpression: His mask can emote, but his face has a perpetual look of boredom.
* PetTheDog: Despite opnely acknowledging himself as the Mastermind of this Killing Game, Mikado acts as a gracious host to the other students and wants to get along with everyone during the peaceful periods, even always taking the time of preparing meals for everyone to eat. This ends up [[SubvertedTrope majorly subverted]] in that it's [[FauxAffablyEvil all a facade]] the Alter Ego Mikado is putting on based on the original Mikado's personality. [[JerkWithAHeartOfJerk None of his kind acts are genuine]], and he's in truth a sadistic monster who ''wants'' to see everyone suffer and die, [[BadBoss up to and including the other members of Void.]]
* PlayingWithFire: One of his preferred modes of attack.
* ThePowerOfTheSun: Mikado's main symbol is a red sun and his attacks are fire-based.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: His pupils turn blood red in the final chapter and he is definitely an antagonist that you wouldn't want to mess with.
* RestrainingBolt: When he was created, his default algorithm value was written as “Master Utsuro is the owner of Divine Luck”. Therefore, he was completely unprepared for the reveal that Sora was in control of the Divine Luck because he legitimately was preprogramed against conceptualizing any scenario where anyone other than Yuki/Utsuro had it.
* SelfImposedChallenge: InUniverse example. During Trial One, Shinji randomly guesses that Mikado used his magic to commit the murder. In order to prove that he didn't do it and to avoid the theory arising in later trials, Mikado immediately creates a new rule that states he is forbidden to use magic for any purpose related to a murder case
* TheRival: To Teruya; he makes it a habit to annoy and torment him when given the opportunity.
* ShutUpHannibal: Is on the receiving end of this many, ''many'' times, particularly from [[HotBlooded Shinji]], [[{{Tsundere}} Yoruko]], or [[TokenAdult Teruya]].
* SolarAndLunar: Represents the "Sun of Despair" to Sora's "Moon of Hope".
* StealthPun: During his Terminate Talk Shooting event, Alter Ego Mikado surrounds himself with his fire magic for protection. In other words, he created a ''fire wall''.
* SupremeChef: He's quite talented when it comes to cooking and even provides meals for the other students.
* TechnoWizard: As if the trope couldn't be more appropriate, Chapter 0 reveals that Mikado is actually a talented programmer who helped create the virtual world.
* {{Teleportation}}: He has the ability to appear and disappear in a flash. Iroha lampshades how everyone has gotten used to this trick [[UnusuallyUninterestingSight to the point that it doesn't surprise them]].
* TermsOfEndangerment: He often refers to the students individually as Ms. or Mr. followed by their surname (Or in Sora’s case, just Ms. Sora).
* ThrowTheDogABone:
** When Kanade has just about successfully framed Iroha for Case Three, Mikado saves her by objecting right before the vote is cast and saying he witnessed her painting at the harbor during the time that she would have supposedly been dismembering Setsuka's corpse.
** He saves Sora from falling out of the tower in Higa City.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: He enjoys barbecue.
* TokenEvilTeammate: In Chapter 4, Nikei reveals that ''Void'' was never a terrorist group like its reputation makes it out to be. It only became that way when Mikado took over as leader and instilled a new agenda of evil for the others to follow.
* {{Troll}}: He likes to mess around with the others when given the opportunity. He also seems to make Teruya a frequent target as of Chapter 2.
* TurnedAgainstTheirMasters: His AI self hired Syobai to murder the real life Mikado and would later allow one of his ''Void'' members to kill Kokoro.
* TwoFaced:
** Half of his mask is destroyed at the beginning of the game, giving him this image. The left side of his face is completely emotionless, while the right side of his face is still covered by the remaining half of his very ExpressiveMask.
** Once revealed as an AI, Mikado's right side is completely covered in rainbow glitches while his left side is normal albeit with some dark cracks.
* VillainousBreakdown: He starts to lose it when Sora claims to have transferred Utsuro's ''Divine Luck'' onto herself while Syobai backstabs him (again) by ensuring that Yuki's mind will be transferred to Sora's body. Everything going against his agenda is what drives the maniacal wizard over the edge.
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: Seems to be his reaction towards [[MinionWithAnFInEvil Iroha]], and by extension [[SplitPersonalityTakeover Yuki]], when the Chapter 5 trial comes to an abrupt close.

[[caption-width-right:350:''“Wherever there’s a scoop, my pen is never far behind! Ultimate Journalist, Nikei Yomiuri, at your service!”'']]

Believing that the best way to communicate with the world is through pen and paper, he gained the title of Ultimate Journalist for his uncanny ability to gather information. He lives by the motto that “the pen is mightier than the sword,” and he values his more than anything. He tends to be oblivious to his surroundings when on the hunt for a scoop, but, despite his eccentricities, he’s a typical high school student who loves to talk.

He is revealed to be a member of Void. He tries to set Yuki Maeda up as the blackened who killed Shinji Kasai, but fails due to Sora's interference and Shinji's suicide. After the 4th trial, he attempts a mass shooting of the surviving students, but is stopped short due to a jammed gun. He is punished by Monocrow for breaking a sudden new rule that forbids members of Void from betraying each other, effectively dying as the culprit of Chapter 4. He is executed by falling to his death after trying to escape a hoard of Monocrow reporters chasing after him.

----
* AlasPoorVillain: Even after Nikei tried to kill everyone in a last-ditch effort, you can't help but feel sorry for the guy after he turns into a sobbing mess when he brutally loses his hand. It's also a grim reminder on how Mikado really did take everything away from him.
* AllMenArePerverts: He enjoys making perverted questions during interviews as a way of making them more interesting. His first question to Sora during his FTE was what her cup size is.
* AllForNothing: Attempted to set Yuki up as the culprit of Case Four in order to screw over Mikado's plans. In the end, as Mikado gleefully informs him, the only thing's he's done is help advance Void's goal even further.
* AnArmAndALeg: Due to a jammed gun, Nikei lost his right hand, which also contributed to his death.
* AndIMustScream: In the Void Theater segment, Nikei has taken the form of his left hand and can only communicate via pen and notepad.
* TheAtoner: In the beginning of chapter four, Nikei announces to everyone that he’s a Void member and quits the group since he’s disgusted with Mikado’s actions and wants to help take him down. However, it’s cruelly subverted as he only wanted to take down Mikado so he could retake the leadership of Void, with him pretending to be working with both the students and Teruya while masterminding that chapter’s murder.
* BatmanGambit: His involvement in the complex fourth murder case was in order to make Yuki a killer so he could be executed which in turn would ruin everything Mikado was trying to achieve with his agenda.
* ChronicBackstabbingDisorder: In chapter four, he just about backstabs every group possible; the students, Teruya, and Void, with Syobai as the only exception.
* CompetitionFreak: Nikei is stated to strongly hate losing and will hold a grudge against anyone who is better than him at anything.
* ControlFreak: The Chapter 5 Void Theater segment reveals that this was his real personality as the group's original leader.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Has his hand cut off, then tries to escape a horde of Monocrow reporters via a helicopter, only to miss the ladder spectacularly thanks to his missing hand and falls off the building and then is crushed underneath the reporters when they chase after him.
* TheCynic: He isn't one to trust easily and always looks at the glass half empty.
* DamnYouMuscleMemory: During his execution, he attempts to escape the Monocrows chasing him by jumping to a helicopter, but makes the mistake of trying to grab the ladder with the hand that he had just lost moments ago, causing him to fall to his death.
* DemotedToDragon: Was forced to step down as the leader of Void after Mikado took over, something that he's ''[[{{Understatement}} very]]'' bitter about.
* DynamicAkimbo: A common pose of his early on.
* FalseFriend: The ''Void'' Theater segment of Chapter 5 reveals that Nikei never saw the other members as actual friends, but as ''inferiors'' for him to boss around. Hajime and Emma admit that they actually knew about this from the beginning, much to his shock.
* {{Fingore}}: Blows up his right hand via the tampered gun after Trial Four. This is shown with a scene of the exploding gun tearing Nikei's hand apart, with lots of blood and his fingers being blasted off.
* HandTropes: Pretty much applies to him in Void Theater.
** FlippingTheBird: Hilariously, one of his Void Theater sprites is this.
* HeelFaceRevolvingDoor: In Chapter 4, Nikei reveals himself as a member of ''Void'' to the other students and asks for their forgiveness along with the chance to work with them. But later on, he admits that he was manipulating everyone along with Teruya in order to have them turn against each other. At the end of the trial, after his BatmanGambit fails, he tries to kill everyone in the hopes of ruining Mikado's agenda. However, the gun he wields ends up exploding in his hand and Nikei is shortly executed for betraying ''Void''.
* HiddenDepths: He mentions taking a lot of acting lessons from Emma.
* HumiliationConga: Goes through an impressive one in the Case Four post-trial, courtesy of Mikado.
* {{Hypocrite}}: During his first FTE, he annoys Sora during his interview by only asking about her cup size and measurements. In his final FTE, when Sora interviews him, he is horrified when the only thing she asks him is his dick size.
-->'''Nikei:''' “I- I didn’t expect such a question at all… no, more importantly, what kind of a question is that?!”
* IconicItem: Is always shown with his pen and notepad.
* ImmoralJournalist: Revels in [[AllMenArePerverts making sleazy comments]] during interviews? Check. Member (and former leader) of ''[[LegionOfDoom Void]]''? Check. A BadBoss towards his subordinates? Double check]].
* IntrepidReporter: Nikei didn't get the title of ''Ultimate Journalist'' by waiting for stories to come to him.
* ItsAllAboutMe: During the ''Void'' Theater segment, Nikei openly confesses that he was just using the other ''Void'' members to achieve his own goals, seeing them as nothing but subordinates.
* {{Jerkass}}: This part of his personality really shows during the moments before his execution, as well as during the Void Theater segments afterward.
* KarmaHoudiniWarranty: While he gets away with his crimes in Case Four, seeing as he technically wasn’t the blackened of the case, Mikado adding an addition rule at the last minute ensures that he’s executed anyway.
* {{Keet}}: In the first chapter, he was always in an eager mood and was willing to make a story out of just about anything.
* LargeHam: His English Dub intro video gives us a solid idea on how hammy he can be.
* ManipulativeBastard: Is essentially this throughout Chapter 4, manipulating everyone as he views fit as part of his plan to get revenge on Mikado.
* MeaningfulName: His surname is a reference to Yomiuri, a Japanese national daily newspaper founded in 1874. The term also means "reading by selling", a phrase connected to his talent as the Ultimate Journalist.
* NakedPeopleAreFunny: Nikei's final sprite in [[BossBattle Terminate Talk Shooting]] ends up completely naked.
* NotAfraidToDie: When Mikado warns him that shooting up the trial room will result in his death too, Nikei says that he doesn’t care as long as he can give him a metaphorical middle finger and he knows Mikado won’t let him live. This is somewhat subverted as losing his hand immediately causes him to back down, and he’s surprised when Mikado does indeed announce his execution.
* NotSoAboveItAll: While he is a member of Void and spends the majority of the 2nd and 3rd chapter away from the group due to distrusting them, he still immediately helps them in the search for Setsuka and takes guard at her dismembered corpse when everyone else is too disturbed by the sight. Granted that this might've been played, but his horrified reaction upon finding Setsuka seems genuine.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: He is uncharacteristically furious when he asks the twins why they killed Setsuka and horrified when Kanade burns her note, both of which don’t go unnoticed by his classmates. In the next chapter, he reveals that the two of them had been secretly working together to spy on Mikado.
* PaperTiger: Despite his claim that he [[NotAfraidToDie wasn't afraid to die]], having his right hand blown off is enough to turn him into a sobbing mess.
* PlayingBothSides: The end of the fourth trial reveals that Nikei was manipulating both Teruya and the main group in order to have them turn on each other as part of his master plan of taking revenge on Mikado.
* SayMyName: Just before his execution, towards Mikado.
* TheSpock: As a reporter, Nikei claims that it's important to have a certain level of doubt so that the facts of a given story or relationship are true and won't backfire on you in any way possible.
* TheStarscream: While he is a ''Void'' member, Nikei admits that he doesn't like how Mikado is running their organization and has been secretly plotting to betray the wizard.
* TragicVillain: According to him, Void's original purpose was to search for a single person, most likely Utsuro, and he was actually their leader. That is, until Mikado intervened.
* {{Tsundere}}: Apparently to the other members of Void post-death, as he seemingly starts crying when confronted with their true views of him as a friend, only to angrily deny it.
* {{Workaholic}}: His Free time Events reveal that he doesn't have a personal life or any hobbies outside of his work.
* WoundedGazelleGambit: Part of his plan in Case Four involved him knocking himself out with a stun gun so that Yuki would mistakenly think that Shinji had attacked him.

A mysterious man who first appears in an attempt to rescue the students, introducing himself as the financial officer of the Kisaragi Foundation. After seemingly being killed by Mikado after the rescue fails, he later washes up on the beach soon after the first trial and is formally introduced to the students the following day. Since Mikado feels as though things have been thrown out of balance with the early reveal of Void’s existence, he has Teruya join the Field Trip of Mutual Killing as an “assistant guidance teacher” to the students due to him being an alumnus of Hope’s Peak Academy and survivor of a [[VisualNovel/DanganronpaAnother previous Killing Game]]. As the Former Ultimate Merchant, he promises to help the students out as best he can but has difficulty remembering the full extent of his memories due to him developing amnesia from the earlier attack. Although he does his best to advise everyone and encourage them throughout the trip, many of the students have trouble trusting him because of his mysterious background and the strange things he says.

For all the tropes that pertains to him from the previous Killing Game will be found [[Characters/DanganronpaAnother here]].

He is the victim of Chapter 5, deciding to sacrifice himself by eating a poisoned meal provided by Mikado, after learning that his body contained a firewall code that was preventing the Kisaragi Foundation from locating them.

----
* AccidentalPervert: When trying to talk with our AmnesiacHero Sora in private, both she and Yoruko accuse him of hitting on her.
** In the second trial, Iroha unintentionally calls him a pervert when she questions why someone would constantly check the props inventory on a daily basis. Teruya embarrassingly admits that it was him and she quickly apologizes for the insult.
** He gets called a pervert again by Yoruko when he wears a speedo to the pool in Chapter 3.
* AccidentalProposal: In his final FTE, Sora misinterprets his encouragement as this:
-->'''Teruya:''' “Sora, let’s definitely get out of here. Let’s get out and find our memories, and live happily forever.”
-->'''Sora:''' “What is that… is that perhaps… a proposal?”
-->'''Teruya:''' “W-what are you sayin’!! It ain’t nothin’ like that!!”
* AmbiguouslyBrown: He's one of the few dark-skinned members of the cast.
* BaseBreakingCharacter: InUniverse. His presence and lack of memories has made him a controversial figure among the group with many of them being unsure as to how trustworthy he really is.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Teruya tries his best to keep the students safe and working together but he ultimately proves to be useless at protecting them or preventing murders from occurring, which he grows increasingly discouraged by. It’s no wonder that he eventually snaps in chapter four and decides, after taking them hostage at gunpoint, to keep the remaining students locked in a room to stop any more murders from happening.
* BoundAndGagged: He ends up like this when introduced to the students in Chapter 2, courtesy of Mikado.
* CelibateHero: LINUJ states that Teruya has never dated anyone from his time at Hope's Peak to the present.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Surprisingly subverted. Compared to the gorey and creative deaths shown throughout the game, Teruya meets his end after unknowingly ingesting poison by Mikado. Although his body is a bit ruffled up, it's still perfectly intact when the survivors find him.
* TheDeterminator: Teruya still holds this trait even as an adult. He claims that 'not giving up' is an important trait to have in order to survive a killing game.
* DoesNotLikeSpam: Stated by the creator to dislike greasy food.
* DrivesLikeCrazy: Since he’s the only one with a license, Teruya has to drive most of the class over to the fifth island. Apparently, he’s not very good at it based on their reactions when they finally arrive.
* DroppedABridgeOnHim: Teruya dies by food poisoning and there was, unfortunately, nothing he could do about it. Subverted in Chapter 6, where it's revealed that he [[HeroicSacrifice voluntarily ingested poison in order to let his friends escape from the simulation]].
* ExhaustedEyeBags: Develops these after the students take him hostage after he's almost driven to kill them in Chapter Four.
* FailureHero: Teruya admits that he is this since he couldn't protect the students from the killing game and how he's practically useless without his partner.
* GoodWithNumbers: According to his profile, he's skilled at doing mental math.
* HeelFaceRevolvingDoor: Before and after his memory loss, Teruya arrives in the hopes of helping the students escape the killing game. However, he becomes more cautious and distrusting of them after he remembers that they aren't official Hope's Peak Academy students as the school has yet to accept any new classes. And then he becomes outright hostile and aggressive towards them in Chapter 4.
* HeroicSacrifice: Teruya intended his death to come off as this. He learns from Mikado that his body contains a fire wall code which has made it difficult for the Kisaragi Foundation to find their whereabouts. Wanting to screw over Mikado, Teruya decides to eat the food provided to him knowing that it's poisoned so that the others can be saved.
* HeroOfAnotherStory: Was one of the survivors of the [[VisualNovel/DanganronpaAnother 79th Class Killing Game]].
* IGotBigger: He’s gone from being the shortest participant in [[VisualNovel/DanganronpaAnother the previous game]], to the tallest.
* KidHeroAllGrownUp: Before he was a childish and carefree boy, now he is a full-grown man who takes it upon himself to protect the students.
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: In chapter 2, he reveals that he could not remember the details of the previous Killing Game and that his last memory before formally meeting with the group is doing some work for the Kisaragi Foundation.
* MadnessMantra: During the high-stress enviornment of the 4th island, as he is forced to take the students hostage and conditions go from bad to worse, he starts muttering "What would Kinjou do?" on repeat to himself as he tries to think up solutions to the ever-increasing problems.
* MomentOfWeakness: He briefly falls into despair in Chapter 4 and holds Mikado and Syobai at gunpoint.
* MrFanservice: Along with his handsome face, Teruya has a fairly muscular body that goes really well with a speedo.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: His friendly demeanor completely vanishes when he has Mikado at gunpoint in Chapter 4.
** Before that, he also breaks down in tears after seeing a library filled with golden statues of his former friends and classmates in Chapter 4.
* OohMeAccentsSlipping: InUniverse. Teruya speaks with an accent when he gets worked up or overtly emotional.
* RealMenWearPink: He enjoys making clothes as a hobby.
* ReplacementGoldfish: After announcing her decision to end helping the group in Chapter 2, [[TheSmartGirl Kokoro]] declares that Teruya will help them in her place.
* TokenAdult: While all the other participants are teenagers and Hope's Peak students, he has long since graduated from school and, being older and an alumni, is somewhat thrust into the role of a guardian/mentor to the kids.
* TokenGoodTeammate: Invoked by Monocrow, as the mascot declares him to be the new assistant guidance teacher for the students while Mikado claims that his presence will help restore balance for the group. However, this trope is probably no longer applicable after his [[SanitySlippage Sanity Slippage]] in the fourth chapter.
* TragicKeepsake: His goggles used to belong to [[AcePilot Haruhiko Kobashikawa]], a victim of [[VisualNovel/DanganronpaAnother the previous killing game]] Teruya and Rei participated in.
** Additionally, his blue scarf with the happy and sad pins once belonged to his father who is implied to have died during the events of the two games.
* UnwittingPawn: In Chapter 6, we learn that Tsurugi sent him and Rei as a diversion so that Mikado wouldn't suspect a double agent in the game. This would result in Teruya becoming another casualty.
* WouldHitAGirl: Kicks Sora in the gut when the students attempt the ambush. He also hits Yoruko when she tries to help Sora.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: Becomes this in the fourth chapter, where he forcibly locks all the other students (sans Syobai) in the Tower of Babel to keep them from committing any more murders.

[[caption-width-right:350:''“A pleasure to meet you, my comrades. I'm the teacher in charge of the Hope's Peak Field Trip. Call me Monocrow.”'']]

Monocrow claims to be the supervising teacher on the Kibōgamine Gakuen field trip and forces the students into taking part in a "field trip of mutual killing", claiming to hold dominion over the Isle of Nowhere. He originally positions himself as the BigBad of the Killing Game, but following the reveal of Mikado as the Mastermind, Monocrow takes a backseat to him and works more as [[TheDragon his sidekick]].

In chapter six, it’s revealed that Monocrow was originally an AI created by Yuri Kagarin that was stolen and reprogramed for the Killing Game. Just as he finally overrides his reprograming and turns against Mikado, he is killed by him.
----
* AlasPoorVillain: In Chapter 5, Sora can't help but feel a twinge of pity for Monocrow for how he seems compromised and threatened by Mikado, acting like he knows that his time is nearing its end. His death at Mikado's hands in Chapter 6 is also not taken well by Sora, Yoruko, and Iroha.
* BodyBackupDrive: Zigzagged; Multiple Monocrows appear during a few of the executions, but Mikado destroying him in chapter six wipes him out for good.
* ContrastingSequelAntagonist: He's quite different when compared to Monokuma, from the [[{{Franchise/Danganronpa}} original series]] :
** Compared to the high-pitched, juvenile and fun-loving Monokuma, Monocrow has a calm and serious demeanor and only shows a few bursts of glee over the events of the killing game.
** While Monokuma is [[MouthOfSauron a proxy controlled by Junko and acts as her voice]], Monocrow, while bound by the rules, works more as TheDragon to Mikado and is a separate entity from him.
* DeathOfPersonality: Mikado modifies his programming in the 5th Chapter so that he's now [[MachineMonotone just an expository robot.]]
** As discovered in chapter six, this is actually the ''second time'' this has happened to him, since his original self as Yuri was stolen and reprogramed into the Monocrow needed for the game.
* DiscOneFinalBoss: He originally presents himself as the main threat to the class, but ends it pretty early after the Mikado reveal as the two decide to give up on the charade right then and there.
* DudeWheresMyRespect: As the acting teacher, Monocrow often expresses sadness that his students don't completely respect him.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: If his reaction to Sora's anger at him for executing Nikei due to Mikado's newly implemented rule is any indication, even he had a problem for being forced to murder him, as it was a rule that no one was aware of until it was broken. The only reason why Monocrow executed him is that he is forced to enforce the rules.
** He's also genuinely disturbed while watching Kanade DieLaughing as she's being hanged in her execution.
* EvilSoundsDeep: Has a deep and suave tone of voice.
* {{Expy}}: Monocrow's dark persona and his love for the theatrics make him similar to [[VisualNovel/Danganronpa2GoodbyeDespair Gundam Tanaka]].
** In Chapter 6, he's revealed to be the ''Monomi/Usami'' of the game as he was initially created to oversee the protection of those participating in the virtual simulation. It's even outright stated that his role was based on the real life Usami.
* FeatheredFiend: He's modeled after a baby bird but he's the one running the killing game. As it turns out, he wasn't always like this; he was merely a friendly AI hijacked for the killing game.
* GuestStarPartyMember: An ''extremely'' brief one, as he joins the students for all of five seconds before Mikado kills him.
* HeelFaceTurn: Undergoes on in the final chapter upon being restored to his original Yuri persona.
* InsistentTerminology: He’s very adamant that he’s referred to as a '''crow''', not a '''bird'''.
* {{LeitMotif}}: He's often accompanied by his theme music appropriately titled [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmBaDX5_qiE Mr. Monocrow's Lesson]].
* MachineMonotone: During the 5th Chapter, Monocrow appears to have [[DeathOfPersonality lost his dynamic personality]] and begins to act more robotic.
* MeaningfulName: Like Monokuma, Monocrow's name is a combination of the romanization of "monokurōmu", literally meaning "monochrome", a reference to his black-and-white color scheme, and "kurō", the transliteration of "crow". However, it could also be the shortened form of "monochrome" (monokurōmu).
* NobleDemon: While not without his own JerkAss moments, Monocrow is very much this [[ContrastingSequelAntagonist compared to Monokuma]] or Mikado.
* OneSteveLimit: His original form was named after his father, Yuri Kagarin.
* PintSizedPowerhouse: He's just over a foot tall, but is strong enough to lift people up and fly them around.
* RedemptionEqualsDeath: Helps the protagonists and stands up to Mikado just before he is KilledOffForReal.
* SacrificialLion: Just after he breaks free from his programing and allies himself with the students, Mikado kills him.
* ShooOutTheClowns: Mikado decides to kill off the goofy bird which showcases how dark the situation has become. Happens twice; first via DeathOfPersonality in Chapter 5, and then via KilledOffForReal in Chapter 6.

A terrorist organization led by Mikado. Consisting of him and four students blessed by Utsuro, their goal is to find [[VisualNovel/DanganronpaAnother Utsuro]] at all costs. While Mikado operates as the mastermind, the purpose of the other four is to integrate themselves into the class and commit a murder when ordered to do so, in order to keep the killing game moving forward.

After any of the members are killed, they show up in the Void Theater segments at the begining of each chapter, appearing in whatever form they died in.

----
* BornUnlucky: Discussed in the final Void Theater segment. When Nikei asks Hajime why he’s so calm and not trying to fight the fate that they’ve been working so hard to avoid, Hajime hypothesizes that maybe their existences were inherently cursed and while Utsuro’s luck granted them a brief reprieve, things are only returning to the way they were meant to be.
* TheMole: Basically the role that the four other members fill in the killing game.
* ObviousVillainSecretVillain: While Mikado is outed as the mastermind during the prologue, the class is completely unaware of Void's existance until after Trial 1 and even then, aside from Kokoro, nobody can tell who the rest of the members are.
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: Nikei to Mikado, once the latter takes over as leader.
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: It's made clear that Mikado has this view of the other Void members after any of them have been found out as the culprit.

For all the tropes that pertain to her from the previous Killing Game will be found [[Characters/DanganronpaAnother here]].

----
* CharacterDevelopment: She went from an arrogant, hot-headed girl to a mature and reliable woman.
* CelibateHeroine: LINUJ's response regarding Rei's romantic past on [=PasteBin=] claims that Rei has never liked anyone she's met on a romantic level.
* ExpositoryHairstyleChange: In the first installment, Rei's hair was longer representing her younger self who was more self centered and arrogant. In the present, it's now shorter representing how she's more mature and cooperative as a field agent.
* {{Expy}}: She's pretty much [[VisualNovel/DanganronpaTriggerHappyHavoc Byakuya Togami]] if he were a red-headed woman. And just like Togami, she mellowed out between the two installments in that she's now more relaxed and willing to work with her fellow classmates/survivors.
* GirlsWithGuns: She carries one for protection.
* ILetGwenStacyDie: She's the most upset over Teruya's death and how he was an unnecessary casualty on Tsurugi's end. She also feels guilty that she had a code that protected her from Mikado but wasn't able to do the same for her partner.
* MeaningfulName: In Japanese, Rei's given name means "cold" or "cool", which may refer to her personality in general.
* SpannerInTheWorks: While she was ejected from the virtual world, Rei has made multiple attempts to leave clues for Teruya and the survivors to find as a way to regain their memories.
* TheStoic: Is well composed when faced with dangerous situations.
* SuddenSequelDeathSyndrome: She survived the previous game, only to be burned without a trace by Mikado in the prologue. Though she is revealed to be still alive.
* WhatTheHellHero: She calls out Tsurugi when she discovers that he used her and Teruya as a distraction in order to allow Syobai's role as a double agent to remain a secret. She's also furious that this resulted in Teruya becoming a casualty in the killing game.

* EyeObscuringHat: He wears a military hat which covers his right eye.
* EvilVersusEvil: Tsurugi is stated to have invoked this by hiring Syobai, a professional criminal who is revealed to have helped Mikado organize his killing game, into betraying him so they can stop the evil wizard.
* HandicappedBadass: He now uses a wheelchair and is one of the chief officers of the Foundation.
* {{Patricide}}: He's killed his father for being a corrupt officer.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: His right eye is blood red and he is a force to be reckoned with.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: Tsurugi thinks of himself as this as he justifies his morally questionable actions (using Rei and Teruya as bait to distract Mikado, hiring [[FriendIntheBlackMarket Syobai]] to sabotage the killing game) as they're all for the greater good.

A child reborn with ''Divine Luck'' that surfaces in the epilogue. They are presumably Yuki Maeda, whose mind was uploaded into Sora's body after the events of the killing game, although the nature of their identity is left deliberately ambiguous. LINUJ has stated they could be either, or a combination of, "Sora, Yuki and Utsuro." They have a mysterious nature and are reported to be now wandering the Earth.
----
* AmbiguousGenderIdentity: Supposedly possesses the mind of the male Yuki Maeda inside Akane Taira's female body. It is unknown what gender they consider themself to be now and they are referred to by Ryutaro as him/her.
* BornLucky: Although Sora had told Kinjo that she believed the power would be contained by her avatar in the virtual world and that it would not be passed onto her real body, they nevertheless emerged from the killing game "reborn" with Utsuro's ''Divine Luck,'' apparently utilizing it to escape the laboratory island amidst Foundation personnel, collapse a bridge and elude a subsequent Foundation-led manhunt.
* DestructiveSaviour: Their main appearance involves rescuing Midori from Syobai's clutches (with Iroha tagging along) and saving the latter two from Keisuke's imminent [[ShoottheHostage Shoot the Hostage]] attempt by creating an earthquake that destroys a city bridge in the process.
* DoubleConsciousness: Alluded to be their case in the epilogue sequence, which is chock-full of question marks about the completeness of the personality override.
** When asked whether she believes it is solely Yuki inside, Minako Tomori replies that she "isn't sure" and wonders on why Yuki, an innocent civilian, would choose to immediately flee the Foundation's presence when they regained consciousness from the virtual world.
** After they collapse the bridge, Ryutaro also separately ponders about whether the override was really a success and whether they "were really Yuki Maeda."
* InTheHood: Wears a grey cloak that covers their whole body.
* TheQuietOne: Did not speak a single word during their appearance.
