'''Me:''' ''Not really.''\
'''Talking crack-bat''': ''There can only be one champion by the end of the Game! If you want to win, eliminate your fellow players – every death earns you points! Use those points at the Pawn Shops to buy the things you need to survive! Round one is a free-for-all – you'd better get going.''\
'''Me:''' ''...Yeah sure whatever.''\
'''Talking crack-bat:''' ''And remember – the Hearts are around for medical aid, so-''\
'''Me:''' ''How many points do I get for killing you?''\

'''The Game Master's Tournament''' is a group of blogs that take place within Franchise/TheFearMythos. They all feature dfferent characters, but all begin the same way: the character wakes up on "the Game Board," a place with a [[EldritchLocation checkerboard ground]] and [[AlienSky orange skies]], and they are instructed that they are a part of the "Game Master's Tournament" and there will only be one winner. To win, [[DeadlyGame everyone else has to die]].

Here are the characters:
* [[http://fireduelist.blogspot.com/ Gordon Tayler]], a young TabletopGame/YuGiOh fan who finds himself over his head with an ''actual'' magical deck.
* [[http://enhanchedproxy.blogspot.com/ David Kallaway]], an "Enhanced" servant of [[Franchise/TheSlenderManMythos the Slender Man]] who finds he dislikes killing more and more.
* [[http://plaguedbysecrets.blogspot.ca/ Blair H.]], an androgynous runner from the Black Dog.
* [[http://tisiphonethroughthelookingglass.tumblr.com/ Tisiphone]], a murderous young woman who is turning into a Lilim for the Mother of Snakes.
* [[http://toysofagamemaster.wordpress.com/category/debbie/ Debbie Doehrs]], an amateur MMA fighter.
* [[http://toysofagamemaster.wordpress.com/category/frog/ Frog Sorenson]], a pre-med student.
* [[http://toysofagamemaster.wordpress.com/category/clara/ Clara Loomis]], a rancher from a dystopian future ruled by the "New Gods," the Fears.
* [[http://wonderlandswargames.blogspot.ca/ Marcus Finn]], a runner from the Choir.
* [[http://dancingondaggers.wordpress.com/ Emily Kim]], a young woman with a penchant for [[DeviousDaggers knives]].
* [[http://dataportseven.blogspot.ca/ Drake Miri]], a young man, and "Genome," the living AI Thoughtborn in his computer that is trying to get him killed.
* [[http://gametime00.blog.com/ Malachi Dewitt]], a Private Investigator who sometimes works for the Fears.
* [[http://axiominwonderland.blogspot.com/ Axiom]] and [[http://everythingperhaps.blogspot.com/ Rillek]].
* [[http://trailsofaheavysleeper.tumblr.com/ Georgia]], a runner from the Grotesque.
* And [[http://thedayofyourarrival.blogspot.com/ Ambrose Bierce]], [[Creator/AmbroseBierce himself]].

There's also a large group of other characters that appear in the story, many of which act as antagonists. These include:

* The Hanging Man
* The Jack-In-The-Box/The Jack of All
* The Pied Piper of Hamelin

----
!!Tropes displayed in the Game Master's Tournament:

* AGodAmI: [[spoiler:Dewitt does this after he becomes The Tale Weaver.]]
* AcidTripDimension: The world in which the tournament takes place; the sky is orange, the ground is checkered, and there are talking bats.
* AIIsACrapshoot: Genome.
* AlternateCharacterInterpretation
** See NoYay for the interpretation of the Hanging Man.
* AmbiguousGender: Blair.
* AmnesiacsAreInnocent: Axiom
* AntiClimax: [[spoiler:Dewitt v. Emily.]]
* AnyoneCanDie: There can only be one victor...and so far the dead include [[spoiler:Debbie, Marcus, Drake, Axiom, Ambrose, Rillek, Gordon, and Clara. Now that they've reached the final bracket, that list includes the Hanging Man, Tisiphone, Dewitt, Harold, Kallaway, Genome, and Emily]].
** [[spoiler:As of the final round, Frog is also dead.]]
* ArchEnemy: Quite a few of the finalists had one, and some actually had two, including [[spoiler: Kallaway and the Pied Piper]], [[spoiler:Dewitt and The Jack-in-the-Box]], and [[spoiler:Blair had a few, including The Hanging Man and Frog]]
* ArsonMurderAndJaywalking: Emily Kim describing her opponents.
-->'''Emily''': "Unsurprisingly, a they were mostly weirdos. Snake-people and masked guys and cowboys with rope fetishes and a kid on a horse."
* AxCrazy: A couple people, but Dewitt deserves special mention.
** WordOfGod says wait for it, he eventually gets worse.
*** No more need to wait... [[spoiler: Dewitt has turned into an evil apprentice of the Game Master known as the Tale Weaver.]]
* BadFuture: It's heavily implied Clara comes from one of these.
* BigBad: The Game Master.
* [[spoiler: BittersweetEnding: Congratulations, Blair! You've won, and your prize is...Ambrose and Clara are alive! They just may not remember you. Also, there's no telling where they are.]]
* BlackDudeDiesFirst: Averted. [[spoiler:Subverted, when one considers that in the trio of Ambrose, Blair, and Clara, the two white characters die off.]]
* BlueAndOrangeMorality
* BreakTheCutie: Blair.
* ClusterFBomb: Many of the characters drop this sometimes, but Dewitt is well known for doing this more often than not. At least three of his posts have that word in the title.
* CoDragons: The Red and Black Jokers.
* ColdSniper: Harold
* CoolHorse: Windmill. He also has shades of HellishHorse, as a blog post from Frog reveals that [[CrapsackWorld in Windmill's time, horses have fangs.]]
* CoolOldGuy: Ambrose Bierce. Seriously.
* CoolOldLady: Clara. Crosses over with NeverMessWithGranny.
* CoolSword: Emily and Kallaway pick up one of these.
* CrazyPrepared: Emily Kim.
--> '''Emily''': "Thankfully, my Boy Scout bag got sucked into this game along with me. So, I’ve got my laptop, my cell (which is dead, unfortunately), my first aid kit, my knives, and all the other stuff I keep in there."
* CuteAndPsycho: Both Emily and Tisiphone.
* DeathSeeker: [[spoiler:Harold.]] It's unknown at this point in time whether this goal was achieved or not. Odds are: probably not.
* DepravedBisexual: WordOfGod says Tisiphone is this.
* DesignatedBullet: [[spoiler:Blair kills the Hanging Man with Ambrose's Mauser.]]
* DeviousDaggers: Emily Kim.
* DidYouActuallyBelieve: [[spoiler:Frog, to Emily.]]
--> [[spoiler:'''Frog''': "I grinned at her. “Did you really think I was serious?”"]]
* DidYouJustRomanceCthulu: Frog and Tisiphone. Then he starts changing, too.
* DisneyVillainDeath: [[spoiler:Emily gets one in her last fight.]]
* DyingAsYourself: [[spoiler:Georgia, in her last few moments, snaps out of her dream...just in time to die.]]
* DyingDream: [[spoiler:Creator/AmbroseBierce, who appropriately wrote one of the {{Trope Codifier}}s, "Literature/AnOccurrenceAtOwlCreekBridge."]]
* EliminationHoudini: Frog - horror-movie logic dictates he should have died off early. [[spoiler:Somehow, he's a finalist.]]
* EnsembleDarkhorse: Windmill. Literally.
* EvilAllAlong: [[spoiler:Emily - not that she was masquerading as 'good', exactly.]]
* EvilVersusEvil: Pretty much everyone (except Blair).
* EyeScream: Dewitt to some random combatant.
* FangsAreEvil: Obviously, Siph. There's also a very noticeable dip in Frog's morality once his start growing in.
* FishOutOfTemporalWater: Both Ambrose and Clara. However, since they're all in an alternate dimension, this doesn't put them at much of a disadvantage.
* TheGameComeToLife: Gordon's cards.
* GenreSavvy: Knowing their blogs are being read by an enemy, Ambrose, Blair, and Clara set a trap this way. [[spoiler:Becomes DeathByGenreSavviness when one considers that, because of that trap, Ambrose died.]]
* GoodAnimalsEvilAnimals – the final match-up. [[spoiler:Arguably the most ‘good’ character, Blair, facing Frog – who is a JerkWithAHeartOfJerk, if not outright evil. They are, respectively, a human versus a snake-being.]]
* GoodGunsBadGuns: Subverted by "good guy" Ambrose who uses a Mauser. Although it has long been lumped in with Nazi guns, the original Mauser C96 actually dates back to the late 19th century when Bierce lived where it wouldn't have those "bad" connotations yet.
* GroinAttack: Happened to a nameless character, courtesy of Clara and Dewitt.
* GuysSmashGirlsShoot: Very much averted.
* HairTriggerTemper: Dewitt. After [[spoiler:Axiom dies,]] he gets worse.
* HeelFaceTurn: Kallaway isn't quite as comfortable with killing as the game goes on.
** [[spoiler:Dewitt starts out generally angry but willing to forgive and make allies although he has a serious HairTriggerTemper. This escalates when the death of Axiom causes SanitySlippage and he eventually descends from an Antivillain to a powerful demi-god who acts as The Game Master's protege.]]
* HelpfulMook: The Hearts. Their sole duty is to heal the 'players'...but they still serve the Game Master.
* HeroKiller: The Hanging Man.
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:Clara. Kallaway tries one...but is killed before he manages it.]]
* InterplayOfSexAndViolence: Frog and Siph, again.
--> '''Frog''': "Then some chick tried to sneak up on us while we were sleeping and Tisifony ripped her throat out. I think I’m in love."
* InvincibleMinorMook: The Spades.
* ItsPersonal: [[http://plaguedbysecrets.blogspot.ca/2012/09/one-minute_1.html/ The match-up]] between Blair and the Hanging Man.
* JumpingOffTheSlipperySlope: [[spoiler:Frog, who agonized when Debbie died, finally decides that he would have had to kill her anyway and goes to kill more people.]] Drake also does this as he goes from a hesitant and pathetic wimp to a much less hesitant but still pretty pathetic murderer once he realizes that he can be free of Genome if he kills enough people. [[spoiler:Doesn't actually work and results in him becoming more insane as his attempt to be free of Genome results in Genome slowly taking over his mind.]]
* KillTheCutie: [[spoiler: Poor Debbie.]]
* TheLastDance: [[spoiler: Realizing his Enhancement is about to end his life, Kallaway draws his sword and rushes at the Game Master. Unfortunately, his heart explodes before he reaches him.]]
* LetMeAtHim: Dewitt displays this [[spoiler:after Axiom's death.]]
* ALighterShadeOfGrey: Most of the 'good' characters are this.
* MamaBear: Clara, to two young players she encounters early on; later, Blair.
* MenUseViolenceWomenUseCommunication: Averted.
* MoralMyopia: Pops up a few times.
* NoYay: Could apply to several, but based on one AlternateCharacterInterpretation (the Hanging Man is a {{Yandere}} towards Blair) this trope could be the two of them all over.
* PapaWolf: Ambrose again; he clearly begins to view Blair as a 'son', due to his real-life failures with his sons.
* ParentalSubstitute: WordOfGod says Axiom viewed[[spoiler:/views]] Malachai as this.
* PlatformBattle: The way the semi-finals are staged.
* PrehensileTail: Siph and Frog each grow one.
* RandomDrop: A few players find 'bonus items'.
* ReplacementGoldfish: [[spoiler:Following Siph's death,]] Frog is hoping for this, with Emily.
* SacrificialLion: [[spoiler: The way Ambrose dies, at the hands of the Hanging Man.]]
* SanitySlippage: Although [[spoiler:Dewitt's]] last straw was [[spoiler:the death of Axiom]], he had already had begun losing his temper and his self-control since before the tournament.
* SelfDefenceless: Blair has a taser, which he uses against [[spoiler:Kallaway in the semi-final. Played straight in that it isn't very effective...but then, Kallaway isn't a regular person. When Blair, hirself, gets shocked a little, s/he is incapacitated, so this trope is also subverted.]]
* SequelHook: [[spoiler:Blair's prize]] left plenty of room for him/her to continue their part of the story. That story continues in [[http://onlycowardsrun.blogspot.ca/ this blog]].
** A more direct sequel is Blog/TheTaleWeaverChallenges involving more of the Tournament's characters (whether they be dead or...otherwise) and moving along the same vein.
* SexIsEvil
* ShatteredSanity: [[spoiler: Dewitt seems to have undergone this a little after finding Axiom's dead body.]]
* SnakesAreSexy: When Frog finally sees Tisiphone's true form, this is what he thinks.
* SnakePeople: Siph [[spoiler:and now Frog.]]
* StagesOfMonsterGrief: Frog does not go through this. Even remotely.
* {{Stripperiffic}}: The Red Joker.
* StupidSacrifice: [[spoiler:Marcus dies off very early while trying to learn about the Jokers and Game Master...and is 'disqualified'.]]
* TearJerker: [[spoiler:There are so many deaths of good characters that count as this. The death of Ambrose, the deaths of Axiom and Debbie at the hands of Siph, the sacrifice of Clara, and Dewitt's last fight may all count as this.]]
* ThereCanOnlyBeOne: The whole point of the game.
* TragicKeepsake: [[spoiler: Blair seems to be accumulating them.]]
* [[spoiler:TrueFinalBoss: Turns out the 'final round' isn't as final as the Game Master first let on.]]
* UnholyMatrimony: Frog and Siph.
* VillainProtagonist: A few of them.
* ViolenceIsTheOnlyOption
* ViolenceReallyIsTheAnswer
* WastelandElder: Both Ambrose and Clara.
* WeCanRuleTogether: The Game Master tries to do this with Dewitt. [[spoiler:Sadly, Dewitt is going along with it.]]
* WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity: Gordon.
* WhatADrag: Clara does this from Windmill's back, to the Hanging Man. [[spoiler:It doesn't kill him.]]
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: Depending on the final outcome, there are a few 'What Could Have Been' scenarios. A few of said scenarios including AllJustADream, in which Emily goes on to be a serial killer, Debbie beating on Frog for being a jerk before helping him find Tisiphone and the Mother of Snakes in real life...only to be killed again, and Clara going on to tell her non-binary granddaughter [[http://twilightfears.blogspot.ca/ Sam]] about Blair.
