1* From a technical standpoint, the very title screen of the game's original Famicom / NES version. Dragon Quest I was a fairly basic game, so when II starts up, you're greeted by the legendary sight of the protagonist walking through a dark cave, followed by his two party members as their combined torches light the cavern (and thus the game's logo). Not only was this the game's way of saying that it had party members this time around, but the ArtEvolution for starting the game off with such a cutscene was likely mind-blowing for the time (its original release in Japan was in ''1987'', three full years before it was ported to the NES).
2* The soldier at the very beginning gets one when he barely survives Hargon's attack and arrives in time to warn the hero and his kingdom before dying.
