* CantUnHearIt: Creator/AlanCumming as ComicBook/{{Nightcrawler}}.
** Actually I can, quite easily. First off, they messed up Nightcrawler's appearance. Whereas in the comic books he has blue fur (which at one issue of ''ComicBook/ExcaliburMarvelComics'' is described as "like blue velvet'') in the movie he seems to be covered in lumpy blue paint, with weird scars that wouldn't show on fur. It makes me think that someone on the production team said "he's blue? sounds like a Celtic warrior" and called it a day.

* JerkassWoobie: Jason Stryker, sure he's aiding in a genocide, but he doesn't really have a choice in the matter. The poor kid was raised by an anti mutant extremist who was heavily implied to be abusive towards him due to his status as a mutant. Even worse, his own father ended up lobotomizing him to turn him into a weapon of mass destruction. Charles especially feels bad for him, and wishes he had a better life.

* AuthorsSavingThrow: Wolverine's going full berserker rage against Stryker's troops was likely done to address the fact that he didn't kill anyone in the first film.

** How much control over his own actions does Jason have? Stryker's lobotomy has clearly rendered Jason entirely docile and obedient to his father, but he still retains enough of his faculties to use his powers to control Xavier's mind, and must have some capacity to do things Stryker ''didn't'' tell him to do since he used another illusion to trick Storm and Nightcrawler when they entered Cerebro. For that matter, it's ambiguous if he actually understands that Stryker is using him to commit mass genocide or not -- and if he does, is it because he's just ''that'' loyal to his father that he'll do it, or does he share his father's hatred of mutants and Xavier?

* TheyChangedItNowItSucks: Some fans of ''ComicBook/GodLovesManKills'' were not happy with William Stryker's SinisterMinister qualities being AdaptedOut in favor of making him a GeneralRipper. The fact that comics Stryker would go on to be a significantly more action-heavy BigBad to resemble the Stryker from this film likely did little to ease their minds.

* UnintentionallySympathetic: Pyro snapping and fireballing the cops at the Drakes' house. It's meant to be a sign that he's about to make a FaceHeelTurn. But in the span of about twelve hours, he got flushed out of his own school and had to flee armed soldiers in the middle of the night, the cops were called on him and his friends when they didn't do anything wrong, ''and'' Logan was just shot in the head in front of them; Pyro doesn't know about his healing ability, so he'd obviously think he was dead and they could be next. It's not only fairly understandable the kid would snap, his actions are borderline self defense.

Surprise, he was actually an enemy agent, and now he has the location of Magneto's cell! Although it's easy to think Ms. Oyama's brainwashing would have stunted her judgement, the fact that she does office work for Stryker's secret projects in the first place establishes that she ''should'' be perfectly capable to think rationally.

** So, so much between Wolverine and Stryker, thanks to the subplot of Stryker being the key to his lost memories. When they first see each other after years and are they separated by a wall of ice from Iceman, the two invoke a WindowLove moment with the other's shadow on the ice. When Mystique is attempting to seduce Wolverine, she first takes on the form of Jean, then Rogue, then ''Stryker'', as she says "what do you ''really'' want?" Also, Stryker speaks of thinking Wolvering was one of a kind before admitting he was wrong, as he sics Lady Deathstrike on him; the implication she's a ReplacementGoldfish for Wolverine is hard to ignore.

Correcting trope. The videogame is set in a different continuity from the film.

** Yuriko has barely any role in this film beyond acting as Stryker's mind-controlled bodyguard, but her incredible fight scene with Wolverine and her tragic death made her very popular. There were even plans to bring her back in the sequel, though it was canned when Bryan Singer declined to direct it. Fans would have to settle for a small ShoutOut in ''Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast'', when a Sentinel briefly uses her power to impale Sunspot. She also survived in the official game which shows she was a pupil of the Silver Samurai, though whether this is canon is uncertain.
