* ContestedSequel: ''2nd Offense'' improved on almost every feature, and added one of the first cases of RPGElements on an obviously non-RPG game... but the Scrappy Mechanic noted below hit the game hard. Thankfully, a cheat to unlock everything is available and the game is still enjoyably fun.

* NightmareFuel:
** The alien ant invasion in the Meteor Crater level in ''2nd Offense'' is a mix of this and NarmCharm for its homage to '50s [[AttackOfThe50FootWhatever B-grade monster movies]]. That said, the giant ant in question ''will'' give you grief if you foolishly wander into the crater.
** Padre's special weapon in ''2nd Offense'', [[ToHellAndBack opening a portal to Hell in order to come back out right beneath his foe]]. In a game rooted in a mix of '70s throwbacks and sci-fi, it is quite the departure.
* ScrappyMechanic: The objectives in ''2nd Offense'', in which many of them [[GuideDangIt vague]] and tedious. It was so bad that most player simply used cheats to unlock everything, and the sales for the game were considerably lower.
** Still an improvement over the first games' objectives. The Coyotes had it simple enough, with their objective always being to destroy a certain map object, but the Vigilantes had to ''protect'' a certain map object, and the AI opponents [[TheComputerIsACheatingBastard can lock onto said objects with their weapons]], making certain weapons like the Mortar entirely unstoppable.

protect a certain map object, installation or landmark. This doesn't sound so hard ''on paper'', but the Vigilantes had to ''protect'' a certain map object, and the AI opponents [[TheComputerIsACheatingBastard can lock onto said objects with their weapons]], making certain weapons like the Mortar entirely unstoppable.unstoppable. Should you unintentionally get into combat with your opponent(s) right next to the landmark you must protect, you may as well go ahead and restart because they ''will'' destroy it.

* SoOkayItsAverage: After the dust has settled, this is the consensus from the fandom concerning V8 Arcade. The game it'll certainly get you a good fix if you want some V8 in a newer console but the lack of content, threadbare presentation and general sloppiness of the gameplay engine and mechanics makes it the weakest of the three with most fans suggesting it either for diehard V8 fans who want more or newbies looking for a more accessible jumping on point.

Actual trope, not YMMV, moving to main page.

* LighterAndSofter: While the ''Vigilante 8'' games still have occasional dramatic/scary moments, it's still more lighthearted and comical than its car combat equivalent, ''VideoGame/TwistedMetal'', not to mention ''Vigilante 8'' have definitive good endings (for the good guys).

* GoddamnBats: Dave, Beezwax, and Dusty's special weapons. To elaborate, Dave's special sics three small flying saucers on you that are impossible to escape unless you're in one of the fastest vehicles. Beezwax's special works the same way, but with a swarm of mutant bees that will juggle your car in the air causing constant damage unless you can outrun them. Dusty's special sends a hawk after you that conjures up a spirit tornado, whirling your car in the air for several seconds.
