Award snub is when a work loses the award to an objectively inferior opponent. It's not about losing the award to a work of equal measure. "Missing Link" was an equally good film and happened to win the Golden Globes. Not seeing how "Toy Story 4" was snubbed in this case.

* AwardSnub:
** While somewhat contested that it beat ''WesternAnimation/{{Klaus}}'' for Best Animated Feature at the Academy Awards, there was a small amount of both confusion was dissension when it didn’t win Best Animated Film at the Golden Globes (''WesternAnimation/MissingLink'' won and ''Klaus'' wasn’t even nominated).

Award snub is when a work that clearly deserves at least a nomination is completely overlooked or is when a work loses the award to an objectively inferior opponent. Toy Story 4 won the Best Animated Feature Oscar. I've read the example several times and it doesn't quite make sense. It seems to imply Toy Story 4 wasn't a strong contender for that award (which is opinion) but doesn't illustrate how the movie was "snubbed". Removing.

** While generally considered the weakest of the four films, it still was definitely praised enough by audiences and critics that it could've also been a decent contender for a Best Picture nomination in its own right too (maybe even Best Adapted Screenplay as well). It definitely wouldn’t have had the best claim for it though certainly unlike its predecessors (especially in the same year that ''Film/AvengersEndgame'' itself wasn’t nominated for anything but Best Visual Effects).

When Gabby Gabby meets Woody and learns he has a functioning voicebox, Gabby Gabby covets it for herself and quickly realizes the folly in attempting to brute-force it out of him. Two thirds of the way into the film, Gabby Gabby uses the knowledge she's gained by befriending her "captive," Forky, and subjects Woody to a [[BreakThemByTalking brutal but heart-wrenchingly sincere speech]] that convinces Woody to stop opposing her and give up his own voicebox so Gabby Gabby can have a chance at happiness. Unlike [[WesternAnimation/ToyStory2 Stinky Pete]] and [[WesternAnimation/ToyStory3 Lotso]], Gabby Gabby always remains calm and grateful toward the heroes--even offering Woody his voicebox back when her initial chance at happiness earns her rejection--while remaining the one antagonist in the series to have effectively hit Woody at his core.

The latter is set to be answered in an upcoming Disney+ miniseries.

Broken Base is not about a disagreement among the fanbase, it's not about a small but vocal minority that complains, it's about a civil war among fans of a particular franchise. As a result, the trope definition calls for 4 criteria that have to be met to qualify as a broken base (sustained, vicious, large, divisive... see the trope page for more details). This example does not seem to meet these four criteria and is more of the "some fans like it but some fans don't" variety. Removing example. If adding back, please outline in the example how the disagreement incorporates all four criteria to qualify.

* TheyChangedItNowItSucks: Social media went a bit nuts over a brief flashback to Andy as a kid in the trailer where he didn't look quite the same. This, in turn, led to theories that this wasn't Andy, but rather, his son, and the shot came from towards the end of the film, but this was {{Jossed}} by the finished film, much to some fans' annoyance. Others have pointed out that the older version of kid Andy was very UncannyValley and that he looks much better here (as well as closer to how he looked in ''Toy Story 3'').

Not liking how she's portrayed as deliberately flawed such isn't this.

* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: Bonnie, to a degree. After the big emotional ending in ''Toy Story 3'' where Andy makes the ultimate sacrifice and gives Woody to Bonnie at her request, it's immediately revealed in ''Toy Story 4'' that Bonnie specifically neglects Woody in favor of all of her other toys. While this is realistic behavior for a child, it has rubbed many fans the wrong way since they see Bonnie's poor treatment of Woody as a HappyEndingOverride that cheapens Andy's sacrifice, especially when she visibly accepted his offer to take care of Woody for him.

Only applies to the work causing it, not suffering it.

* ToughActToFollow: This was unavoidable since the film is coming right off the near universally acclaimed ''Toy Story 3''. Pixar seemed to have anticipated this, as many elements of ''4'' (the different setting, the focus on new characters over old ones, the ''much'' lighter tone, and the emphasis on characterization/dialogue over action) seem to be made with the intent of letting the film stand on its own instead of stacking it against ''3''. Overall ''Toy Story 4'' has been acclaimed by critics and a number of fans who consider it a worthy follow up. However, for many fans, the shadow of ''Toy Story 3'' [[ContestedSequel still looms over it]].

mis-use: Any interesting idea can drive a fan-fic, but the trope is about specific gaps that appear in the narrative that practically invite fan-fic to step in and fill in those narrative holes. It's not about "what if" scenarios, or situations where a reason is provided but found to be unsatisfying. Toy Story 4 told a nice coda to Woody's character arc and came to a satisfactory conclusion. This idea is a "what if" scenario that goes beyond the current story, it doesn't fill in any narrative gaps.

** Outside of Woody, Buzz and Bo Peep, the original cast get very little screen time. This is especially egregious considering this is stated to be the last installment of the franchise. Their spending most of the movie literally in the back seat is a quite apt visual metaphor. The same goes for Bonnie's original toys, as most of them have bit parts near the beginning and end of the film and not much else. People like Creator/DougWalker were especially turned off by this and think that calling the film "Toy Story" with the other toys being pushed to the sidelines seems rather misleading, and that the film may have worked more if the title was named after Woody since he's the only main character who gets much focus.
