You can only cross the Moral Event Horizon once, by definition. It means going from redeemable to irredeemable. There's no such thing as crossing it multiple times.

** Bobby crossed this years before the film's present when he attacked and stabbed Emma. Though his actions in the present day certainly would have made him cross it again. He comes to the lake house with his brother under the pretense of emptying the safe, then kills Tom and would have gone as far as to kill Emma to get the diamonds if Jimmy hadn't stopped him.

* BaseBreakingCharacter: Emma is believed by some fans to be [[AngstWhatAngst entirely too calm]] for someone in her situation, especially when her one hope of getting out of the lake house is killed and her former attacker and his brother start looking for her, with the former clearly out for blood. Even when she ends up caught and completely at Bobby's mercy, she seems to feel nothing but exasperation. However, other fans argue against this by stating that Emma panicking or devolving into a blubbering mess would have made the movie way less entertaining and Emma not nearly as much of a compelling character. Some also point out that criticism on Emma's reaction to her situation seems to mostly come from a preconceived notion of how women in horror-films are "supposed" to act (scared and vulnerable) and completely overlooks the fact that not everyone reacts to a stressful situation in the same way.

** Jimmy makes it obvious the whole film that he's in way over his head and doesn't actually want to kill anyone. But he never finds the courage to assert himself to Bobby and just walk away. In the end he dies a gruesome death when he gets into a fight with Bobby over beheading Emma and Bobby kills him accidentally.

There's no need for potholes to change the gender if there is a Distaff Counterpart name to it.

* [[SugarWiki/HeReallyCanAct She Really Can Act]]: If ''Film/JennifersBody'' wasn't enough, then this is a further showcase of Creator/MeganFox's acting skills that rarely got put to the test. She has to carry a chunk of the film entirely by herself, she commits heavily to selling both the setup and the rest of Emma's insane situation and overall is asked to actually display emotions like anger, sadness, determination and frustration rather than just be a MsFanservice.

* {{Anvilicious}}: The film is not at all subtle about its message on abusive relationships and the need to leave them to avoid being dragged down by them your whole life. The majority of the movie has Emma literally dragged down by the weight of Mark's corpse and she has to literally and figuratively cut herself free from him and his toxic influence on her life to save herself.

He comes to the lake house with his brother under the pretense of emptying the safe, then kills Tom and would have gone as far as to kill Emma to get to the safe's combination if Jimmy hadn't stopped him.

** Tom seemed to be honestly in love with Emma, making it heartbreaking when she ends their affair at the start of the movie. When he receives messages from her calling for help afterwards(which were actually sent by Mark prior to his suicide) he immediately drives over to the lake house and does his best to help her once he arrives, unaware that Mark was planning to use his devotion to Emma to frame them both for his death. He ends up getting stabbed to death by Bobby Ray for his troubles.

** Mark crosses it when he forces Emma to witness his suicide and sets up a whole ThanatosGambit designed to make her miserable even after his death. He even goes so far as to invite the man who attacked and stabbed her in the past to the completely isolated lake house, ''knowing'' that said man is still blaming Emma for his prison sentence and , maybe, setting Emma's lover up to be murdered.
