* ContinuityLockout: ComicBook/{{Hawkeye}}'s appearance. Non-comic fans are left clueless why the movie spent five minutes bringing in a [[Creator/JeremyRenner big name actor]] to play a random wisecracking guy with a bow and arrow, who never appears in the film again, though this made sense when ''Film/{{The Avengers|2012}}'' came out.

** Despite the two sharing less than a minute of screentime, this film spawned the explosively popular Clint Barton/Phil Coulson ship, which is still going strong as of 2015.
** Loki and Jane as well.

** Many jokes have been made that despite the lack of romantic chemistry, there actually ''is'' a good reason Thor and Jane are attracted to each other...namely, because he's Creator/ChrisHemsworth and because she's Creator/NataliePortman. They are ''hot.'' Even WebVideo/HonestTrailers got in on this, with the narrator saying that Jane was in love with Thor for no good reason - only to show the scene where Jane sees Thor shirtless, and correcting himself by saying she's in love with him for "six good reasons - abs!"

* DesignatedHero: Odin could be considered one, since it's his fault that Loki has gone down the dark path. Thor at least tries to make Loki forgive him. Odin himself, on the other hand, refuses to admit that he's responsible for how misguided Loki is. For context, he tells Thor and Loki when they are children that "only one of you can inherit the throne, but both of you were born to be kings". [[SarcasmMode Sure, that won't create any pressure, competition and resentment, Odin...]]

** For those who are not familiar with comics, it was confusing to see Creator/JeremyRenner wasted in such a minor role. The idea of one of TheMenInBlack armed with bow and arrows added more confusion to the mix. And worse, the NarrowedItDownToTheGuyIRecognize trope would manifest later in the franchise (this small character of Renner would eventually turn out to be Hawkeye, one of the leads of ''The Avengers''), but not in the ''Thor'' movie itself when it had just been released.

The first example is a Base Breaking Character; the second one is too general.

* TheScrappy:
** Darcy Lewis is this to some viewers due to her constant attempts to be funny, with some comparing her to [[Film/ThePhantomMenace Jar Jar Binks]] or even the TropeNamer [[Franchise/ScoobyDoo himself]].
** All the human cast to a degree can be this for diehard fans who despise characters such as [[DesignatedLoveInterest Jane]] and [[MadScientist Selvig]] for [[SpotlightStealingSquad taking attention away]] from [[TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter more popular characters]] such as [[EnsembleDarkhorse Heimdall and Thor's fellow warriors]].

Base Breaking Character and Ensemble Darkhorse are mutually exclusive tropes, so Darcy can't be both. Removing "In Hindsight" examples that are just actor trivia.

** Darcy Lewis for her quirky personality and that [[SugarWiki/FunnyMoments notable scene]] where she [[MemeticBadass tases Thor]].

* FoeYay: There's a bit of Sif/Loki, if you look at their interactions a certain way. Probably only one-sided, though, and ''might'' be insinuated as to how Odin wanted the "joining of the kingdoms" to go. You could do worse than having your enemy's son marry into your own nobility.

** Creator/ZacharyLevi was originally cast to play Fandral, but his commitment to ''{{Series/Chuck}}'' caused him to drop out, giving the role to Creator/JoshDallas. Fast-forward to 2012, when Creator/JoshDallas's commitment to ''Series/OnceUponATime'' caused him to drop out of the sequel. Guess who played Fandral? Zachary Levi.
*** Levi would later go on to play Film/{{Shazam}} who, like Thor, is a FlyingBrick superhero who [[ShockAndAwe uses lightning]]. And, in the comics ([[DependingOnTheWriter some of the time]]) transforms from a weak mortal form to a heroic form with godlike power (young Billy Batson becomes Shazam, lame Dr. Donald Blake becomes Thor). For extra bonus points, the 90's crossover series ''ComicBook/MarvelVersusDC'' had these two heroes pitted against each other.
** Sif is nicknamed as [[Series/XenaWarriorPrincess Xena]] by a ComicBook/{{SHIELD}} agent. Creator/LucyLawless would later portray a new character, Isabelle Hartley, in an episode in ''[[Series/AgentsOfSHIELD Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.]]'' Season 2.

** At the time this was released, it was dueling with ''Film/GreenLantern'', which among its cast, starred one Creator/TaikaWaititi, who would later go on to ''direct'' the aforementioned ''Thor Ragnarok''.

** Creator/KennethBranagh must have realized this and says in the DVDCommentary that their relationship wasn't meant to be true love, but more a mutual crush and respect based around what they represent to one another, a statement that rings a bit hollow given the BigDamnKiss (a more restrained kiss, like Thor kissing her hand, would have fit better), and the sequel takes the StrangledByTheRedString to greater levels, though in all fairness Branagh had no say in that happening.
