* AccidentalAesop: If you have to wet nurse a puppy, make sure it's being nursed by a dog of similar size if the same breed isn't possible. It'll save it from a lot of confusion when it grows up.

* TearJerker: Much of the movie. Brutus's attempts to fit in with his dachshund siblings are heartbreaking. He is trying to be a good dog, but Fran yells at him because he breaks the furniture. While it is portrayed in a more lighthearted manner, the movie is actually about a dog who cannot figure out what he is doing wrong or why he cannot please the mistress of the house. The scene that shows him standing next to the other competing Great Danes is also a TearJerker in a more heartwarming way, because he can finally see that there are other dogs like him.

* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: Fran. One would think she would catch on to Brutus's need for the same love she showers on the dachshunds, but she only thinks about how Brutus's desperate attempts to be included are inconveniencing her.
