** Rin Miroku also qualifies for similar reasons--not only does she lose her mother and her sister in quick succession, but she [[spoiler:is also Riliane's reincarnation and was born with the constant feeling that she was waiting for someone--namely Allen--throughout her life. When she regains her memories, she expresses determination to stay alive just long enough to meet Allen again and tries to fight Kayo with the help of the Demon of Pride...only for said demon to not respond and Kayo to murder her]].

I wholeheartedly disagree that there wasn't time to develop the plot threads introduced in the first chapter, there was plenty discussed in the later chapters and plenty resolved. (Kayo's husband, for example, may not have gotten a lot of pages but he got a whole chapter to himself

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: Due to the structure of the novel, while many plot threads are hinted at or suggested during the first chapter (the bulk of the story), many do not get resolved until very late, with little time to focus on them. For example, Kayo's husband's story shows up in the prologue but then only gets about 30 pages of development at the end due to [[spoiler: being the monk that shows up after it's all over]].

* JerkassWoobie: Kiji Yarera. The {{Jerkass}} part comes when he fully intends to murder someone on the idea that they ''might'' be responsible for killing his love, and his rude behavior towards Kokutan and his friends. (Besides which, the Yarera family has never been completely clean morally.) The woobie part comes in when you remember that his wife and ''unborn child'' have both been murdered by someone and the police have no leads at all.

This trope is not for the purpose of critiquing the novel under the guise of split fan opinion. The majority of these complaints (which of those the only ones I\'ve seen were about the plot twist and wasted plotlines) would be from a fanbase that hasn\'t actually read the novel itself. This trope is for when the percieved quality of a work compared to its predecessors is seen as either being better worse for improving on/changing what earlier installments did. Several of these points (a scope bigger than the novel itself, plot twists that don\'t entirely service the plot, odd pacing) were all present in Pierrot and none of these things mattered to fans then. So regardless of whether or not they count as actual flaws, it\'s not for this trope. | The issue of alternate universes and complaints about why the plot didn\'t happen has nothing to do with the trope of wasted plots. | Pierrot is not the most well-recieved novel in the series. It\'s just a recent release. The Story of Evil novels would probably be the most well recieved, particularly when they were first coming out. Furthermore, again, very few people have been complaining about this novel with Pierrot in mind. If anything, people are complaining about Tailor because both Pierrot and Gift had Wham Episode plot twists | Behemo was present throughout the entire novel—not a one scene wonder.

* ContestedSequel: Fan opinion is split heavily on the novels quality. While most agree the book did a great job making one sympathise with Kayo's character and that the book had some fascinating WorldBuilding, for many the book exemplifies the majority of the problems the franchise suffered from, including terrible pacing, wasted plotlines and characters, a scope too big for the novel itself, plot twists that come out of nowhere and are under-explained and ultimately accomplishing little for the ongoing plot.
* OneSceneWonder: [[spoiler: It may not of been for very long, but fans still cheered when Behemo came back.]]
* ToughActToFollow: ''LightNovel/FifthPierrot'' was one of the best received novels in the series, broke ground with a shocking yet well done WhamEpisode and set up the franchises latter half. There was no way that could be matched, though weather the novel was still good is a point of contention.

** The fact that Kokutan never gets to meet or interact with the Miroku's didn't go down well with the fandom, since many felt it wasted Allen's presence and prevented interesting development. The rather limp and vague justification as to why [[spoiler: Allen and Riliane can't reunite]] didn't help, nor did several implications that increased fans fears that [[spoiler: alternate universes]] would becomea PlotTumour.

Come on now, it can\'t be completely out of nowhere if it\'s foreshadowed. Which it is (such as the one in the scissors not displaying the characteristic speech patterns of a demon, and Kayo showing signs of a contract despite nothing indicated she contracted at all).
